I am getting excited at the thought of headin back to The Guitar Center to support Adrian in his second quest for the title he should be holding....  He ripped faces off of people last year......  I also hope that young girl enters again.  She was fucking nasty.  I would love to hear what kind of difference a year makes.....

12 drummers (it\'s usually 9).. 3 minutes each.. randomly picked order, ad got 1, which he wasn\'t happy about (also got 1 in the regionals last year and lost)..

so he went first and played a great solo. 4 out of the next 5 drummers were AWFUL. seriously, sounded like any random person going up to a drum set, and just beating on them as hard as they could..

katelin (sp?), adrian\'s 12-year-old student, went 7th.. some of you may remember her from last year.. she\'s come a long way, and you could definitely tell she\'s been learning from adrian. this girl has a lot of heart and talent, and i hope she sticks with it. she was seriously better than two-thirds of the drummers before her. our little group was screaming for her...

so anyways, the judges took the top 2 to go onto the store finals.. 1st place was this guy, Omar.. i thought he deserved it.. he was very good - been playing 25 years, and he was a really disciplined, polished, well-rounded drummer.

2nd place went to Alani (g-spot tornado).. now, i think Alani is a great drummer, but i didn\'t think he played on Adrian\'s level last night.. actually, i thought he played a better solo in last year\'s competition.. i dunno though.. i\'m really not sure what more the judges wanted from adrian, but i thought for sure he had it..

meh.

Alani beat Adrian?  Oh man, that\'s some major ball-breaking material fo life.  Well, I\'m happy for him, he\'s a cool dude and a good drummer.
I said it before and I\'ll say it again: I put no stock in these things at all.

The judging in these things is random at best. Hard to believe this one though, damn!

I think it would be really hardto judge musicians unless it was one on one. I can\'t imagine how any good judging could come out of a field of 12 contestants.

I think you\'re on to something here.

They should use the same 3-minutes-a-drummer format just to seed them, then put them in a bracketed one-on-one tourney.  It would be much, much harder to argue against the winner in this format.

Even better, they could seed them and have round-robin head-to-head group play leading into a short bracketed tourney.  This would guarantee every drummer at least 4 solos, eliminate time-slot bias, eliminate the bad-beat factor, and give everyone a fair shake.
