Coming off of moe.down, this was a show that i didn\'t expect....  there were "moments of blinding brilliance" but overall, the complete crappyness of The Lions Den itself sucked the marrow from this show from jump street....

right now my only question is, "why the hell does the breakfast care or want to play there?"  i see no posatives from going to nyc to play at The Lions Den....not at this stage in the game....

The See The Light WAS orgasmic in that it made me convulse a bit......
The jam out of Ship of Fools > STL was amazing.....

for the first time in a long long time, if ever, Attraction didnt smack me against the nearest wall and then down to the floor...it was short taboot...

however, what was to follow was the perfect explination as to the reason why i love to see The Breakfast again and again and again....no regret is a rocker fo life...

Hard Luck Harry > LDZ > Echidna\'s Arf (Of You) > jam > No Regret

E:  Organ Solo > The Chase, Man In Me

Happy Birthday, MCA.  Today, (well it\'s guess it\'s now technically yesterday) was my wife\'s birthday too... we celebrated by spending a nice romantic evening with Motley Crue.

after moe.down, i too was really expecting a lot more people at this show.

i thought the breakfast did some interesting things throughout the show, but all in all i was not as floored as i usually am by the band. first of all, i thought there was WAY TOO MUCH TECHNO-sounding jaming. i hope this isn\'t the direction the breakfast wants to go in. i love them b/c they rock, not because they sound like every other disco bisuits-wanna be jam band. secondly, i thought the transitions were really sloppy. i lost the groove a few times, which i never do w/ the breakfast.

perhaps my negativity is brought out by the simple fact that the lion\'s den sucks.

but, as always, it was great to see everyone. you guys are all such a huge part of the reason that i continue to see the breakfast.

bezerker....here is an analogy for ya....

june lions den breakfast show is to bubblegum ak fuzzy hair
:as:
september lions den breakfast show is to the nook.....

Highlights of the evening in no particular order
- Ship of Fools > See The Light
- Wolfman verses some street theif in an improv flow contest which wolfy lost.  he was the winner in my book, but street theifs know how to bend the rules
- going to get a cherry and chocolate chip italian ice with dave and lisa peck\\
- the ser troll stomping of a perfectly played zappa cover
- HARDLUCK HARRY
- Seeing Jennifer (one of the Cheshire Wives) hanging solo with her old school kindergarten Jersey friend.
- Billychags walking down sullivan street
- not dying the 49.5 times we almost died on the way to and from the show (12 going down 37.5 coming home
- WARPITZ
- Latenight at Hotel TKA (still going mind you)
- having some chick walk up to me in mid show asking me if i was a big fan of the band.  "Yes".  If I know what songs they have played up untill then? "Yes" Did they play that song Phaddy Boom Baddy? "No" Do you think they can play it? "Yes" Will they? "NO"

Quote of the night: "Yo Dobz!.....Dobz!!!....Hey Dobz"

as much as the lion\'s den sucks..that is a nice looking setlist
my main issues with that venue  have to do with the fact that you have to  watch 2-3 bands like "the juicy chops" before seeing the breakfast and the $6 BEER  last time i was there, my older sis who lives on the lower east side came (invited herself) with me and i ended up paying somewhere around a $70 tab at the end of the night NOT COOL!!! i don\'t understand why they continue to play at this place aside from the fact that it is money.

what happened to playing the knitting factory?? i liked that venue a lot.

Lions Den = SOOOOO NOT HEADY

Knitting Factory = Much More Heady

2 sets of The Breakfast at the Ace of Clubs w/ Urban Fetch = SER HEADINESS

I\'m not surprised that the Lion\'s Den wasn\'t well attended.  I had a feeling that there wasn\'t as much anticipation about this show as there normally is.

how was the turnout compared to past Lion\'s Den shows?  I know of at least a half a dozen or so moe.rons that went, but a show this soon after the .down would not be a good way to estimate the # of heads turned on from that show as opposed to a couple weeks from now.  I\'m thinking the Troy show should be a much better turnout, plus a lot of heads that got turned onto the Breakfast at moe.down are from far off lands, so it may help out their next major tour moreso than a show right after.

pussied out.

we ate there, and i was thinking about it, but i wasn\'t feeling it.. the challenge had been completed successfully twice since we were last there, so it was now 50 pieces of sushi in 20 minutes.. i asked how much it would cost if i didn\'t finish, and the answer was around $100.. that\'s a lot of money to pay to fail at something AND feel like shit the rest of the night!

the more i thought about it, the less logical it got.. i\'d feel like shit either way, and if i got sick on it, i might never want to eat sushi again, and i certainly don\'t want that...

soooo.. all my talk was for nothing, and i am now open to any ball-busting that comes of it. ;) thank you.

I just talked to my friend Erold.  You guys must have seen him, tall as hell skinny guy dark skinned w/ long curly hair.  Anyways, he\'s from Cali and hasn\'t left to go back since moe.down, but didn\'t get a chance to see their moe.down set and he had only great things to say about what he saw last night.  He was amazed by the interplay between Tim and Ron and is looking forward to when they come out to Cali.  Hopefully they make it to the LA area before Thanksgiving weekend, cuz he\'ll be back out this way for the moe. Roseland run.

Coming off a very satisfying performance of my own, i was excited for this show, especially because i had four newbs with me.  seeing this guy "sam the rhyming comedian" out on the street totally ruining my game with these chicks i was hitting on, i had to run inside and find wolfy, and he certainly rose to the challenge.  wolfy won that battle, but was gracious enough to let sam keep the money involved.  when the girls left 5 minutes into the breakfasts set, i figured they must not be my type anyways. ;)  here is my recap of the performance:

I: Doughboy, jam > Attraction To Shade Ditty, Great Big Fiery Ball In The Sky > Sleeping Beauty

at this point, i was starting to think to myself "my god, is this going to be my first disapointment at a breakfast show?"  just wasnt into it.  didn\'t feel like they were all that into it either.

Ship Of Fools > See The Light

I\'m gonna have to agree with dave and say that if that see the light was uninverted, it would have been the best ever.  it was certainly the best I\'VE ever seen in person.  it also totally turned my negative outlook on the evening around.  STL got my feet moving, and i feel like thats the point at which the band started to click for the evening, and this was just the beginning.

Question Mark And The Mind > Hard Luck Harry > LDZ > Echidna\'s Arf (Of You) > jam > No Regret

My god...  HLH was huge.  just fucking huge.  the bass player in my band, evan just kept looking at me saying, "WHAT??!!?  WHAT??!!?? DUDE!!  WHAT THE FUCK IS HAPPENING!?!??"  and then a FLAWLESS echidna\'s arf, at which point all excitement about my performance earlier in the evening turned into strong feelings that i should quit music. (instead i\'m having a lesson today haha).  solid no regret, really raged with the momentum from the tunes before it.

E: Organ Solo > The Chase, Man In Me

Jordan commanded this encore.  nuff said.

yeah the lions den sucks, this show has gotta get back into the knit SOON.  tim was talking about wanting to get back in there, so we\'ll see, maybe another turkey tour appearance at the knit, which would be a nice way to celebrate my one year anniversary of finding my second fam.

over and out.

I think the reason for the poor turnout is a lot of people just don\'t care for the Lion\'s Den, me included.  An advertised midnight start time doesn\'t help either. I doubt I will ever go back there.

After no sleep for 24 hours, helping a friend paint the next day, I have come back to reality and made my way home here.

I have decided that Doughboy is a double edge sword. It is a great closer and it is a terrific opener. The jam after Doughboy sounded like the jam that always happens before Sleeping Beauty. Someone asked me what they were going in, I said Sleeping Beauty, but I was wrong, short ATSD before going in GBFBITS. It was fun and a before I knew it they went into what took 2 songs to come around, Sleeping Beauty, good version. Ship of fools was alright, but the See The Light was excellent. One of the better that I have seen. I can do without Question Mark and The Mind outside of the acoustic setting. People sort of were lost when the band went into it. IMO, the energy dropped here, letting people go for a smoke, get a beer, talk or walk around. Don\'t walk to far because good ol\' HLH was great. At one point I turned to Slimpickens and said that this might even be better then the Family Jam version, at that point DavePeck turned around and said, "What did you just say?". I think what made HLH great was the outro of the song which made it completely different then anything I have seen them do with it. The rest of the show was solid. Not much that I can say that would higlight the evening.

Good times, good peoples, Lions Den sucks. Better venue next time, less openers.

Thanks to all that have survived the spaceghost ride home. Warpitz on the ride down, taking the ride up to good ol Yardsley/Shady Acres before turning around. 278 NOT 287. No, Oil tanker should be in the middle of the highway. Close Explosion. No minivan should be broken down on the road. Do Not park in front of the driveway. We did. Doing warpitz, drinking beers across the street of the lions den in the illegally parked car. I can only say, Only In New York.

ok let\'s see if I can pull something together here.  Just got back into my neck of the woods.

Missed the opening of the show because I was downstairs with Wah\'s freind talking to this guy who was friends with one of the door guys, the conversation started about drugs and somehow led to the topic of racism in america, it was very interesting yet alittle odd at the same time.  So I walked in during the begining of great big.  Heard I didnt\' miss much though.  Great Big was good,  Ship of Fools was good as well but not a big fan of this one  See the Light was def a highlight for the evening, as it\'s been said on this thread before ? & the mind came up and it was for some reason the perfect time for a smoke.  Walked back into one of the sickest Hard Luck jams I\'ve heard in a good long time.  LDZ is a good tune and used for what it \'s best for: a transition tune. Which went into Echidna\'s.  One of those songs where I can just sit and watch Tim\'s fingers and he beconmes a hypnotist, they def own this tune.  There\'s this one riff in the "chorus"  that I always think (for like 2 seconds) they are going into Slime the chords are nearly identical. atlest to my non musician ears.  No Regret, Yeah sure I\'ll take it.  Encore: the chase *meh*  I\'ve heard far too many ChaseChecks, this song has lost most of it\'s magic for me, don\'t get me wrong, great tune just heard it far too many times.  But they brought it back for me with a good Man in Me.  Love this tune.

All in all had a good time but the Lion\'s Den SUX, light crowd, and an average show (It was good but hey it\'s The Breakfast)  I\'m ready for my next dose of serness.  Bring it bitch!

I just gotta say, I will never forget that freestyle battle on the sidewalk.  Wolfman vs. Sidewalk Sam in the battle for all the glory.  People throwin money down on the sidewalk and I couldn\'t see out of the circle in any direction, that was dope.  I got in some good lines, calling him a chrome-dome and representing the 203 even though I live in the 617.  His rap was great, even though it\'s obviously the same one he\'s done 10,000 times for dough.  I\'ve told this story about a dozen times already.  I can\'t believe that happened.  Then on the ride hime, mcajam and I went off for a good hour and fifteen minutes, by far the longest throwdown of my life.  What a great time.  Later!

Oh yeah, I remember that!  The word is "schwantz", which is a verb meaning "to beat badly" a la destroy, wreck, smoke, cream, etc.  I remember saying that he would get "schwantzed", and that it was used to rhyme with "Bronx" but I don\'t remember the rest of those lines.

wolfy, can you PM me any memorable lines from your freestyle, or if you remember any of the other dude\'s lines, i\'m writing about this for the digest.  good thing they pay me here at work to sit around and read this message board and write about breakfast shows...

I have no idea.  You\'ll just have to go with what I posted about chrome-dome, 203, and schwantz.  I wouldn\'t have even remembered schwantz if Steve hadn\'t jogged my mind.  Sidewalk Sam\'s entire rap was about scoring with the ladies, although I heard he\'s a cheap date.  :duck:
