Everyone be sure to pick up Breakfast Digest at your next show!  Make sure noobs and people who aren\'t completely into the whole program yet get it as well.  Also, fan submissions are what this thing is all about.  Write your stories, thoughts, or anything else and become immortal!  Enjoy!

Since I won\'t be able to pick a copy, will the first issues eventually be available online or via email?  Do I need to have you save a copy for me?

Yes, we\'ll be going to email very soon, we\'re just focused on the initial printing for the next couple of days.  PM me your address and I will mail you one though.  Same goes for anyone else who needs it mailed.  Until we\'re up on email, I\'ll send regular mail to whoever needs it.  Ahhh...I\'m flashing back to getting Doniac Schvice in the mail...always made my day!

The email will be the same as the printed version.  It will have whatever pictures and graphics are in print.

PDF is a good idea.  The plan is for it to be available for download at .info and have users be able to opt-in to have it sent to their email.  I only decided to start going ahead with Breakfast Digest on Monday, so we\'re making great progress for 3 days in business!

Fantastic!  Send them to me at breakfastdigest@hotmail.com

Fan submissions are what Breakfast Digest is all about!  It is my intention to write absolutely nothing in the Digest :)

yeah wolf you have to at least have 1 submission in every issue, if not every one that at least the first one.  anyways if you need help with editting copy and shit I have excellent experience in that area.

Breakfast Digest...... has a nice ring to it

HA!  Yeah, we\'ll probably clean it up a little...this is a publication, not a message board.  Please send any files in Word or Publisher formats.  (Or if you\'re doing some nutty statistical breakdown Excel is OK too.)  Do not send PDFs, as we need to be able to interact with the file.

It\'s absolutely free to fans.  Gotta spread the word!  I will cover all snailmailings until we are online.

I have to say though, I just finished paying for printing for Episode 1, and let\'s just say that Episode 2 is gonna need some support from advertising or contributions.  If you would like to advertise, or if you know someone who might like to advertise, please contact us at breakfastdigest@hotmail.com  If you want to give a heady kickdown then see me in person or you can send paypal to the email.

The plan is monthly, I just have to cover the printing costs.  The wheels are turning...once people see this and we get it online and have a nice little database going, we\'ll have leverage to sell some advertising.

So, who is which Angel?
I have not met the girls and I\'m too lazy to look through the gallery for everybody.

Maybe we can get some plastic surgeons to advertise with coupons for face-restoration. Medical supply stores can hock jaw-supports to help fans avoid lockjaw during Timmy solos. The opportunities are endless.

Ha ha Well it all depends I guess. I would say Elisa is Kate(smart Angel) Alli Is Jill(athletic Angel) while Holly is Kelly(streetwise Angel). The Hair doesn\'t quite match but that would be my guess.

good little digest you put together there wolf.

random section idea: every now and then, do a old show review. Select an older show that people can pull off of archive or something, and go out on the .info and have whoever was at the show submit commects about it. Pull together a bunch of quotes and memories from the show and then tell people where they can get it at the end of the column. It would be an interesting read imo.

me and klout blew this "secret" out of the water like a week or two ago.....

by the way...isn\'t it still a secret if only 5% of the total "group" knows....

"How do rumors get started, they?re started by the jealous people and
They get mad seein? somethin? they had and sombody else is holdin?
Tell me that temptation is very hard to resist
But these wicked women, ooh, they just persist
Maybe you think it?s cute, but girl, I?m not impressed
I tell you one time only with my business please don?t mess

Look at all these rumors surroundin? me every day
I just need some time, some time to get away from
From all these rumors, I can?t take it no more
My best friend said there?s one out now about me and the girl next door

Hear the one about Tina, some say she?s much too loose
That came straight from a guy who claims he?s tastin? her juice
Hear the one about Michael, some say he must be gay
I try to argue, but they said if he was straight he wouldn?t move that way
Hear the one about Susan, some say she?s just a tease
In a camisole she?s six feet tall, she?ll knock you to you knees

Will you look at all these rumors surroundin? me every day
I just need some time, some time to get away from
From all these rumors, I can?t take it no more
My best friend said there?s one out now about me and the girl next door"

who knows this tune????

Rumors is that Bel Biv Devoe? I can\'t remember but I know the tune and thanx GUY now it\'s in my head

Timex Social Club did Rumors....I thought it was Cameo...but he did "Word Up"

a question for wolfy\'s angels:

i\'m going to be burning 100-200 \'courtesy of .info\' breakfast cds for moe.down newbies.. would you girls mind passing out these cds with the (first xxx) digests? just figured the double freebie would be a good way to get more people on board here, and besides,  you\'re all much prettier than me.. ;)

dave, i noticed you are handing out sample cd\'s during thier set, do you think it would be better to do it beforehand in the campground so people will listen to them and then go see them on sat. night?  just a thought

Not a bad thought. Maybe, even find people at the Electric Company who are going to moe.down and might have never heard the band before. Get there early and get people tuned in. Good luck Wolfy Angels and the ever charming Bosley.

not a bad idea.. my thinking behind it though is that there\'s gonna be a ton of people watching the band, and their jaws are gonna be on the floor.. then they\'re gonna go see moe., and 10 more bands on sunday, and we\'ll never hear from them again.. i say hit them with something tangible while their jaws are on the floor, so that they leave and DON\'T forget the b\'fast on the way home..

maybe a little bit of both though.. we\'ll see..

giving them out there, i\'m thinking people will either drop or lose them before they have time to put them back at their tent, as most people wont exactly be fully sober
Title: Breakfast Digest rolls out first issue...
Post by: Wolfman on August 29, 2005, 04:31:29 pm
Beforehand for both CD\'s and Digests is good cause it\'s a good way to promote the band before they go on.  Let\'s face it: The show will be great, but there will be a lot of people at moe.down NOT watching the Breakfast...unless we get \'em beforehand.  During the show or immediately afterwards has its benefits too, but making messed up people watch over that stuff all night is no good.  If you hit \'em Friday or early Saturday before the show, they will put the stuff where they know where it is, then go to see what all the hype is about, and go running back for the stuff after they see the show.
Title: Breakfast Digest rolls out first issue...
Post by: sallyalli on August 29, 2005, 04:46:29 pm
I think that before or after is a good idea...That way you can talk to them a little bit, kinda promote. It will be my honor to help pass out your discs Dave.

Post by: Igziabeher on August 29, 2005, 07:14:37 pm
I think the beforehand thing doesn\'t really work out because in my case at least, when i\'m at a festival, popping in a random cd is the least of my concerns.  at least giving them out during the set, you know the people are already somewhat into it and will probably hold onto it if they like what they see.  i get handed cd\'s at shows all the time, and i manage to hold on to them until later.  whether or not i get around to listening to them is another story.

Perhaps if folks attending moe.down if they have the means to set up a "Disco Bus" esque situation like at dead shows might be the best way. late night friday after raq. just be cranking The Breakfast in the campground and make it a late night dance party thing.

Just have some of the most killer live breakfast with face melting jams etc. People always looking for a party, give it to them :)

generator and a decent sound system is all you need.

Hell spend like $40 - 50 and get some free beer to give away care of the Breakfast. people eat that stuff up

A very good point.  Hate to waste perfectly good (and costly) Digests and CD\'s on people who just won\'t care.  There\'s really equal upside to each.  In my mind\'s eye, I picture the same thing as Dave: giving them out during and immediately after the show when everyone\'s face is owned, icing on the cake of Breakfast glory.  So that\'s probably the way to go.

Great ideas everyone!  Let me try to touch on everybody\'s thoughts:

Good idea getting shows and setlists on there.  Upcoming show lists are very important, that way Joe Noob can say to his buddy, "Look, they\'re gonna be here, let\'s go!".

The future of the digest is online.  We are working on having it available at .info as well as an email version.  The band may print a few each month to have at the merch table.  While the mailing list is small, we want people to get nice, uncreased copies, that\'s why we went with the big envelopes :)

Anyone who needs one (Rujah), PM your address.  And remember to submit!  A good wacky road adventure to see The Breakfast would be great.  Also, a review of your first show or first show that flipped you out would be cool.  And a ser recap of moe.down. is in order.  Anything else you want to create is great.  Thanks and let\'s keep it goin!

I\'ve seen UM three times since March, and they grow on me a little more each time. I still have yet to be blown away, but they do have their moments. Unlike TB, their face-owning moments are scattered. When I listen to B\'fast shows, my brain gets blown to bits almost every waking minute. UM has their name and relentless touring to back them up - if we could get TB on the road with them, it would be a great amount of exposure. I\'ve seen UM play a show for 1200, 5000, and 350 people respectively, so it varies a lot.

Hey guys,

First off i\'d like to say, i love the site and visit it all the time for my jamband news.  But there is one problem with this; there is never anything about The Breakfast!!! These guys are sooo good and i never see anything about them on the web.  Please be the first site to start paying them some mind!  They did two amazing shows last weekend at the Puppet House Theatre in Branford, CT in which they covered a classic rock album in its entirety, as part of the three set spectactle each night.  The download on BT community tracker has already surpassed every other breakfast show as the most downloaded shows ever!  over 400 snatches, and its only wednesday, four days since the show!  Once again i have to say you have a great site going, but where\'s the Breakfast!?!?

Duly noted and appreciated.

Take care,

Dean, editor, jambands.com

wolf...i finally got a copy after the show on saturday night. after partying until all hours of the morning, when i got into my tent, I pulled out a flashlight and proceeded to go cover to cover. i was riveted. the reporting was dead nuts on and the drama and atmosphere were conveyed in an almost hemingwayish way. i was surprised and slightly disconcerted however, when i came to find myself being qouted in the issue. i\'m going to assume that the release form and other documentation were lost in the mail, but i will also assume that any salary or royalties will be forthcoming. while i understand that these type of comments can and will help the band and your publication, things like OHMYFUCKINGOD don\'t just come to anyone and i expect to be compensated for my art. just like tim palmieri wants to be payed for vera street or you for your beer. it\'s only right. in any case, you\'ve done a wonderful job  and i wish you much future success with your magazine. (your distribution staff is kinda easy on the eyes if you know what i mean!!)

After checking it out online, I was infinitely more impressed.  The color pics and graphics made me feel like I was looking at it for the first time.....again...

Kudos to the Breakfast Digest team.  I hope you make sure to point people to check out the BD online as it is a completely refreshing experience even after reading the hardcopy over and over.....

wish i could of went to moe.down and score some interviews with passbys in the crowd who were experiencing the bfast for the first time.

anyways who ever eventually does a write-up the digest, the headline should read:

Sorry bro, I\'m shooting for Porter\'s.  The 23rd (the day of the rev hall show) is the last day for submissions.  Despite my plethora of superhuman powers, I am not capable of fully editing, laying out, printing, and delivering Digests to New York all in the same day.

Make an effort to have all future post be grammatically correct.  Writing is a craft that needs to be nurtured and practiced.  This board is a prime location for you to do that.

While I\'m no expert on journalism or writing.  I do know a handful of folks that make their living at area papers and they all have the following in common.  They can quickly translate what they see and hear into a legible story.

What do people think of Eppy 2 compared to Eppy 1?  (The Digests, not the songs.)  What\'s working? What do you want to see more of?  Feedback is much appreciated!  Post here or PM me.

And while you\'re at it, submit something!  I\'d love to see:
-A crazy road trip story
-A story from your first show
-At some point there\'s going to be a major Breakfast trivia quiz!  If you can think of a good question PM it to me.  It doesn\'t have to be hard to be good, the quiz will have different levels of difficulty.  Please do NOT post your questions, just PM them.  If the answer comes up on the forum I\'m not going to then print it.
-A Breakfast poem
-Ideas for a sweepstakes
-Do you really love a Breakfast song?  I want a hardcore, in-depth analysis of one Breakfast song, describing each section of the song and comparing some different performances of it.

500 words or less on all articles.  The shorter it is, the better the chances.  That\'s journalism for ya.  Send to breakfastdigest@hotmail.com  Thanks!

love,
Breakfast Digest

P.S.  Deadline for the Fonghoulish Freakout Edition is OCTOBER 21ST!  You know you want to be in the first ever Fonghoulish Edition.  Get writing and send something in tonight!  Just pretend that your subject is a thread and you\'re making a post.

When you have the fan profiles, I liked when the first issue included the "dot info handle".  I think it helps put faces with names together, for those who aren\'t familiar with all their "fellow SER-Heads".

Besides that, keep up with the good work, I enjoy reading it!

Hate to be this guy, but there is a factual inaccuracy in the latest edition.

We claim that Psychedelic Breakfast played their first show on 10/30/98, which is true. But we also claim that Phish played their first show on 10/30/83, which is wrong. Yes, Phish did claim in Vegas on that night of 10/30/98 that it was their 15th anniversary show, but it was later determined that Phish\'s first show was on 12/2/83. This is verified by the Phish Companion and Phish themselves,
hence the official 20th annivesary show of 12/2/03.

The fundamentals of journalistic ethics dictate that we run a correction in the next edition.

Other than that, it\'s a great piece of promotional material.

Incorrect.  The stat is carefully worded to address this situation specifically.

Quote from: Breakfast Digest
The Breakfast played their first show (10/30/98) exactly 15 years to the day after Phish was believed to have played their first show (10/30/83).

"Was believed" are they key words.  10/30/83 certainly was believed to be the first show for about 17 years by every reputable Phish source including phish.net, the Phish Book, The Pharmer\'s Almanac, and even quotes form the band members themselves.  "Was believed" also implies that this fact is no longer believed to be true.

The stat orginally read straightforwardly, "The Breakfast played their first show 15 years to the day after Phish played their first show."  However, Lord of the Layout Justin Maturo caught it and pointed out the change-of-date fact, and the wording was changed to reflect this situation.  Thanks again to the crack Digest team for their great work.

Bottom line: There is no error in Breakfast Digest Episode 2, only errors in some people\'s interpretation of the English language.  I appreciate the effort though, and welcome all future alerts.  It is intense readers like Chris Pitch who keep us at Breakfast Digest on our toes and making sure we put out the highest quality and most accurate content we can.  Thanks!

How about in the interpretation of where an article continues??? Page 1 articles left/ right are switched on page 3. Not a big problem for anyone with a few brain cells left, but awkward none the less.

But since Phish\'s first show isn\'t on the date we list, there\'s no significance to that stat, and actually, it\'s really not a stat. If I said "A-Rod was believed to have batted .900 this year," you wouldn\'t call it a stat. You\'d call that wrong.

Sorry Pitchie, you\'re really reaching here.  This is a fact that was widely believed for almost 20 years.  If it were not significant then you wouldn\'t be hung up on it.  If you want to say it is a "fact" as opposed to a "stat" fine, I don\'t care.  But your present argument is moot.  Game over.  Next.

Howwa bout keeping stats 100% about the Breakfast with no comparison to what other bands were believed to have done or have done.

How about stats about the longest Breakfast show or the longest song they played. Or the most shows in a day.

People, please understand that ChrisPitch is doing something called "ball-breaking".  It\'s this thing that happens a lot in East Haven, CT where you make fun of and belittle someone even though you don\'t mean it.  It\'s a sign of affection, really.  But it doesn\'t translate well onto message boards because you can\'t tell when someone\'s being sarcastic.  For the record, Pitchie does not think that the stat is bad, he just likes to pick on me as a sign of affection.  There does not need to be any rules for any Breakfast stat in Breakfast Digest.  Anyone and everyone is encouraged to submit any stat, fact, or other writing.  The submissions so far have been great.  Please send all submissions to breakfastdigest@hotmail.com

Debuting monthly for three months was highly ambitious.  It worked out great.  However, there\'s no point in doing Digests so regularly when the band isn\'t playing.  Heck, we\'ve already done as many Breakfasts Digests in three months as the Umphrey\'s fans have done Dump City Gutters in 1.5 years!  Jocelyn, you did miss the New Year\'s playbill edition.  Too bad you missed the show.  There will be more Digests when there are enough shows to justify some distribution.

Calling all contributions!

I need 3 types of stories for the next edition:

1. Like Spacey just said, share your "most interesting moment with the Breakfast".  It could be from a show or even from a party.  Anywhere from 5-100 sentences.  Do it up!

2.  Craziest thing you ever did to attend a show.

3.  NYE review.  Have at it.

You can post a quick reply here if you like and if it\'s good I\'ll ask you to write more.

I\'d say the best thing you could do is just write, when looking for material this is pretty much where alot of it is found so write write write......write a review of Daniel St or sumthin and who knows

that sure does suck. anyways I just sent wolfman a few story ideas pm style, but he hasnt responded.  He might not be on, or else hes not paying any attention to his inbox or its full.  Hopefully he gets back to me soon. SOunds like doing little writeups of cover songs would seem pretty cool. everyone has their own interpretation to any Breakfast songs, let alone some cover tunes.

Maybe I\'ll start my own Breakfast publication.....

Breakfast Crumbs

It would just be a blurb on each album, giving the reader or Breakfast fan a recommendation. I think it is VERY important to know where your band came from!!!

Rujah and Joe, please send all writing to breakfastdigest@hotmail.com

I like your album review and cover-song analysis idea Joe.  Send some of that and it will go in.  Also, in Umphrey\'s fan newsletter someone dissected every section of a complex Umphrey\'s song.  He managed to describe the sound of four different sections, which isn\'t easy.  It was a cool article.  Also sounds up your alley.  Hurry up and submit, I need stuff by this coming Tuesday!  (5 days left!)

new issue now online, finally. sorry for the delay. i wasn\'t able to shrink it, so it\'s about 3x the size of the rest of them. just a warning for those of you who are gonna throw it on a handy floppy disk - you won\'t have room for anything else on there.

Everyone, now is your chance to post any ideas and things you would like to see in the 1000th Show Extravaganza issue.  Post right here with any stories, concepts, or anything else you\'d like to see.  Of course submissions are great too!  Send anything you\'ve written or pictures to breakfastdigest@hotmail.com

well, i already tried to submit this once, but it was shot down for two reasons....

a) i didn\'t change enuff from the original graphic (which is now changed as you will see) "reach for greatness" has been changed to "etch for escher\'s"

b) just to call you out seth, the graphic would not be printed b/c of the trademark of Bass Ale, due to wolfy\'s affiliation with a (imo, great and tastey lager) from Boston, won\'t name any names.....

though i know that wolfman excercises executive authority on this paper, because he created, maintains, and puts mostly all of the work into it, I feel that my art should be displayed regardless of which beer company i chose to base my satire off of, b/c after all this is "for the fans, by the fans" and i consider myself fan, and a SER one at that...and i put some time and effort into creating this peice of art displaying my affection for this band.  Hopefully, others on this board will back me in my fight to get this pic printed in at least one of the digests, as not only is there a lack of submissions, from what i understand, but a lack of fan art.   So please post in this thread if you would also like to see this beauty of a graphic printed in the 1000th epy of the Digest!

not feelin\' the "etch for escher\'s"?  it was the only thing i could think of using the letters from "reach for greatness" but i\'m not sure if i love it either....it doesn\'t really make much sense, but has more to do with the band imo.

Yikes!  Well, no writer or artist ever met an editor they like I guess.  Mike, if it makes you feel any better, remember that fan profile of you in Episode 2?  I turned down about 15 other people for that because I wanted to do something for you in lieu of the logo.  No need to start a public rally, I told you that I want to print a logo of yours.  So decide on the final version of this and send it over and it will be the first thing in the commemorative issue.  We\'re nice here at Breakfast Digest, really!

In fact...why stop there?  I\'m gonna send out an APB for

The Breakfast Logo-Parody Bonanza!

Everyone make up a Breakfast-related logo that parodies a famous logo and send them in.  Y\'know, like the ones that used to be mad popular on T-shirts and stickers on Phish lot, like Tide/Glide Sunoco/Sanity and Heineken/Hydrogen.  I want to do a whole page of these for the commemorative issue.  (With Mike\'s Bass/B\'Fast logo on top!)

Whoever sends in the best parody logo will win a ticket to the 1000th show!!
(No kidding!)  Entries are due by May 26th.

If anyone wants to become completely immortal and have a piece in the 1000th Show Digest, get on your horse and submit by Friday 6/9.  People are gonna keep this Digest forever, and they\'ll be worth hundreds each in 10 years.  So if you want in, write something about what 1000 shows means to you and send it over.  50-500 words, plenty of room for flexibility!

By the hair of my chinny chin chin we got the commemorative 1000th show Breakfast Digests out at the show last night, and they are awesome!    Much thanks and praises and Jah love are due to two people for this edition.  First, we were finally able to let Justin Maturo (spacebrush) off the leash with the formatting, and he went to town and did an incredible job, while simultaneously working on the poster for the show as well.  How about those old-school pics!  And Diana "Scoop" Bellettieri (galenas) once again gained unprecedented interview access to all four band members and solidified herself as the preeminent Breakfast journalist.  (Remember she also did the Relix article.)  Nothing like having a real professional graphic designer and journalist on your side for making a newsletter.  Just imagine if I had any idea what I was doing!  :P  I hope you all enjoy reading it over a nice headdy bowl or while sitting on the toilet.    Full-color download will be up shortly.                 YAY!  :peace:

1.  Print out the full-color edition when it is available for download (shortly.)
2.  PM me your address and I\'ll mail one to you.

A+ on the timeline!!

Thanks!  The most fun and challenging part was taking all of those old stories that I could have spent 3 pages apiece on and trying to boil them down to just one sentence.  If I ever go back and expand each event on the timeline to 3 pages and throw in the 34 page Summer Tour 2002 story (http://www.thebreakfast.info/modules.php?name=Reviews&file=viewarticle&id=82), you would have The Breakfast Book.  Say, that gives me an idea.... :hehehe:

Digest is back baby.  What this means for you is that you need to submit something.  Remember Carla\'s crossword puzzle or Gavin\'s first show experience or Steve\'s tour reviews?  Great stuff all.  If you can write or draw, this is your place.  Send all works and ideas to breakfastdigest@gmail.com  (Yes, that\'s a new address.  Gmail is way better than hotmail.)  Anything is doable.  Look forward to hearing from you!

Awesome edition. The interview w/ Matt had some comments from him that I really liked as to his future in the band. The crossword and parodies were cool but the best part for me was the tribute to Gia.

Thank You so much for your work on this one Seth.

This is the best issue yet!  Be sure to check it out.  Sorry the layout is a little weird on the pdf, that was the only way to keep the file size managable and not eat up all of Pec\'s bandwith.  The printed versions look great and will be at Daniel Street tomorrow.

Haha.  Whatever, nothing will ever top the time I drove 3 hours from Amherst to Colorado Brewing Company for a Breakfast show A WEEK EARLY :)  That was a looooong drive home, boy.

You know Dave, the 2-3 times a year I make a mistake, you point it out in a post within 5 minutes every time.  Either you\'re on top of your game or you have no game, I can\'t decide which it is. :P

BUMPITTY BUMP!

Hey everyone!  I\'m looking to get a Digest together in time for Toad\'s on the 22nd.  That way the local crew can dig in and the band has copies to take on the road!

If you want to contribute something, get it to me at breakfastdigest@gmail.com by Friday the 14th!  That\'s soon, so get on it!  Any work is eligible...stories, reviews, drawings, games/puzzles, whatever.  A Breakfast comic would be awesome!

Thanks and let me know ASAP if you intend on submitting!  Later!

-Team Digest
