so was this their biggest shot at playing for an audience who hadn\'t heard them before? looks like a sick set. i was hoping they would play buquebus and get some people dancing as that seems like the best way to get people into a new band. but to play rufus too in the same show...!!! there must have been many eyes opened.

*unfinished....??? did they get cut off? either way thats a nasty setlist, has similarities to the Chicago setlist from 4/30 (+Rufus, which, uhh, is a pretty big f-in +). i bet they tore up Gravity and i like the choice of opening w/Doughboy and The Chase. shhhhhiiiiit i hope there were holes being punched in 10KL\'s grass last night.

I posted on the 10KLF board to get opinions from people... but obviously 99% of the people who care are still at the fest, so nothing yet.  There is a thread on the board with a few people voicing their anticipation for The Breakfast, though.

I got a call from a friend of mine at the doughboy opener and after the show. This person is not at all a breakfast head but he said they "ripped it".  Said he brought a bunch of friends down and everyone really dug it! Said the stage they were on sucked but there was a large crowd.

My neighbor caught them last night and said they really brought it. His brother had never seen them and was blown away. Rufus, Sir Psycho, and Queeb all stuffed into one set?! Jeebus! My buddy also ran into Tim this afternoon. The word is they\'re going to tour this fall and possibly make a Lafayette stop (I pray to God they do!!). And he said Tim remembered me from the last Lafayette show, and thanks me again for the beer I bought him. :D:D:D permagrin! Anyway, verdict from the neighbor is great, said they got a lot of exposure and positive feedback.

Did he mention if there were many newbs in attendance that were blown away?

B.T.W. - Tim is one of the best guys around so of course he remembered you.  One of the first characteristics that was brought to my attention when I discovered PB back in \'99 was the down-to-earth demeanor of the band members.

I don\'t know any more then most of you except for the fact that Tim said the place was raging. I would like to hear what BryanK has to say about the show. Walsh made a phone call to Tim on Friday night/Saturday morning @ 4am when we were in Maryland. He sounded positive. The way I look at it is this, 600 people attended this show, I would assume 95-99% probably never heard of the Breakfast or have heard very little. The band played up to the expectations that I had. The Buquebus, Rufus and Gravity alone could have been close to an hour alone. Just by looking at the setlist you can tell it was definitely a late-nite jam session. Gencs turned to me last night after the Bisco set was over and said, "I would trade being here, to be out in 10K Lakes" Truth to that statement. Glad to see that it was such a success. Hopefully someone took notice of this young talented band. Also, talked to many Bisco fans who said that they have been completely blown away by how great the Breakfast have become. I remember one fan saying, when I first saw them in 99 they weren\'t that good, but after seeing them a month or so ago, they have really become a great band. So, positive comments are coming from the jam community.

Like Spacey mentioned Walsh and I called Timmy but it was more like 6am when we got him on the horn....he said they raged and there was something like 600 people stuffed in the room.....

"short but sweet", yeah its a short setlist but they did play for 2+ hours from what we understood, so the Gravity, Rufus, Buquebus must have been MONSTERS.

Tim was saying on Thursday at SBC that he wanted to open with Drunk Monk Bar, but I guess they went for a more conventional Real Radio esque list.....

Regarding sitins...I think that they were planning on sitting in with Turbine and maybe others...

Either way, I would have traded 5 Saturday nights (Bisco @ Stone Pony) for one night (Friday night Breakfast at 10K Lakes)....

Bisco review to come....

So who may have actually attended the show from .info?  My best guess would be Me, Audiofile and Bryank exclusively.  I guess we\'ll have to wait till one of them makes his way to a computer terminal (unless someone can convince TMN8R/Sequoia to make a rare show review posting).

Do wooks generally bring money for merch. at festivals or do they have a tendency to spend it all on beer, pharmies, nugs?

I hope that this show makes it\'s way to archive.org in the future (assuming it was taped).  Attendance of 600 is about as good as a show gets for the Breakfast.  I would love to see a streaming video of this show right now for my birthday present.

no worries man. i honestly thought they had a baby girl, and when I saw the child running around with wavy blonde hair I assumed she was but i forgot they were rock stars. anyways kind of disappointed me when they left immediately after their 45 min set. i thought they might actually play a couple tunes with PEtty, but I guess their just in it for hte money

I was in attendence for this show.  BryanK dragged me down there.  I\'m not going to give an in-depth review of the show since I\'m not the biggest fan but it did rage.  I was in the front row with a few friends and we all woke up sore the next day.

To answer some questions in the thread:

-I\'m not sure how many people were there but 600 seems a bit high.

-There was one taper in attendence.

-The last song was unfinished because security made them stop playing.  I\'m guessing they passed the curfew.

Great Show!.....had a chance to talk to the guys a bit.  I guess there isnt a very good chance of them coming to South Dakota.  The show was great and I look forward to seeing them again.  Sounds like Chicago is the closet they will get.  I think that Minneapolis, MN should get added to the roster.  I will post photos soon.

I flew from Arizona to cover 10kLF for a publication.  I\'ve interviewed Tim Palmieri on a few occasions and wrote a \'Real Radio\' CD Review for the HGMN.  The Breakfast were incredible at 10kLF: the room was packed; temperature, sky high; energy, through the damn roof.

I talked to 3/4 of the band the next day (less bassist Ron who was still back at the hotel) and they were very happy about the performance and the crowd.  When I wasn\'t dancing my ass off and shaking my head back and forth, I was gawking at the audience.  Most of the people looked like they had never seen them before and they were TOTALLY won over by their gig.  The crowd was so loud at certain moments that it seemed like they were dueling with Palmieri\'s guitar strings!  Excellent show and a very receptive and appreciative crowd who reached deafening decimal levels in response to The Breakfast mystique.

What did you think of the band ? have u ever seen them before ? did they have a good sized crowd

I hadn\'t seen/hear them before and I liked them.  Really fantastic guitar.  I was too tired to pay a lot of attention, though, and the wooks were REALLY distracting.

The venue was packed, and people were outside listening, as well (as open air as a building can get, this place, so it sounded great out there).  So it\'s really hard to estimate total # of people...

Bottom line:  I\'ll definitely be very happy to see them again!

they wouldnt let us in because they had reached there capacity - so we snuck in through the open window - the venue (tiny ass bar - id be suprised if there was even 200) was off the hook - people were throwing water everywhere because the band was on fire - they definetly brought the heat and it was probably my favorite show (next to Delta Nove of the weekend)

this band ROCKS!!! so glad i caught them ;)

and i would love some of thier shiznit!

the picture that travis posted above shows only about 1/3 of the size of that bar.  the person who took that photo must have been standing on the bar.  the room wraps around and then there is a large deck all the way around the building with windows that you could look through to see the band.  I\'m not real sure how many people were there as I was in the very front row infront of Ron.  I should have snapped a photo of the crowd but I guess I wasnt thinking.

Ah, this will be my first post on the board, but in good times. I\'ve been following PB for 3 years now and it\'s great to hear some badass reviews. I\'m sitting here in Iowa and couldn\'t make the drive to 10k in time to see Breakfast so I decided the rest of the weekend wouldn\'t even be worth the trip. Beautiful set list I hope that recording up and appears sometime soon.
I read a little something about a fall tour? Anyone have more info on this or will I have to sit tight for a while?

(little something about my first PB show... It was the Mogollon brew festival in Sedona Arizona and the guys flew out for the day. There were only about 20 people in attendance and PB played as if it was sold out. I never saw a band pull so many notes together in unison. I was blown away. It then started to rain so PB let the crowd huddle under the stage with them as they finished the set just in time to personally introduce themselves to just about the entire crowd before catching a flight back to NY for another show.  I only which I lived on the East coast so I could make it a weekly routine to see them play. I know all you east coasters are bummed for missing 10k but holy shit, you ca hop in your car and see these guys every other week... I\'m jealous.)

This is what made me fall in love with this band.... i remember going to my second PB show and being discouraged by the number of people in attendance.  Then the boys got on stage and played for an hour straight of the most epic and mind melting music these ears have ever heard.  then came setbreak!  inwhich i had 15 mins to pull my shit together and get ready to do it all over again! God i love this band.

Do you have any more of the show?  I have yet to develop mine.  That was the beginning of the show...Adrian borrowed the drum kit and the China Crash on his right fell during the beginning somwhere and he never had a chance to fix it.  I wanted to run up there and fix it for him but he seemed to do just fine without.  It might have something to do with how he was beating the shit out of it.  Never really seen a drummer attack a cymbal from both the top and bottom the way he was.

Please allow myself to introduce......

myself.

My name is ScottT.  I was the only taper at this show and I snapped that picture too!  I can post a few others pics tomorrow but I didn\'t take many since most of my time was spent conducting w00ks around my mic stand.  The Saloon is a very small space and it filled up quickly.  They wouldn\'t let any more people in the doors so folks were climbing in through the windows from the outside deck.  That meant they had to squeeze past my stand which wouldn\'t be a difficult task in the daylight and when sober.  Unfortunately for me there was not much sunshine or sobriety at this 1:30am show  :hair:  Oh well, I know where to avoid setting up for next year\'s fest!

This was my first Breakfast show.  In fact I had never heard the band play a single note, BUT a fellow taper had turned me on to a Tim solo acoustic show which blew my mind.  Dude can shred!  Plus he has great taste in covers.  The band did not disappoint.  They had great twisting grooves with tight interplay between musicians.  Did I mention that Tim can shred??  Seriously, I\'m listening to the show right now and I\'m amazed.

I spoke with him after the show and he said I needed to spread the recording far and wide.  It will get circulated once I get it tracked out.  Total length is 76m28s so it\'ll fit on one (80minute) disc.  I don\'t pretend to have the nicest microphone set-up around (Superlux SMK-H8K cardioids> ART Phantom II> AT CP8201> JB3) but all things considered - people had climbed on top of the tables so the mics were pointed at their backs instead of the speakers - it sounds pretty darn good!  It must be hard to mix for a room like that but Josh made it sound nice.  He seems like a good guy from my short interaction with him.

Later folks... I\'ll let you know when the recording is ready to go.

When you and I went to the Lafayette show, Gordo, there were only about 50 (?) people there, and about 2/3 were dancing. I was disappointed that there weren\'t a whole lot of people there (LBC easily sells 250 tickets for Ekoostik Hookah shows twice a year), but they played like it was Radio City Music Hall. Just proves they\'re in it for the sheer love of music and nothing else.

From Iowa to Lafayette took me a little longer then planned and I missed the first set that night, but you\'re right Katie, TB was ecstatic to be in Indiana and the 2/3 of the people dancing couldn\'t stop. It was my first time in Lafayette and I couldn\'t have asked for anything more.

thinkin back, i dont remember them asking for ID\'s. it was a late show, small place, i think they just wanted our money. hopefully they play somewhere else this time around though, Elbo Room is ridiculously hot and stuffy. its like a basement and 90% of the people were smokin like chimneys.. not saying i didnt have a phenomenal time, but hey youve been to the LBC and it\'s FAR from the Elbo Room. just got done listening through Buquebus.. the energy is through the roof! they kicked it off right with Doughboy and Chase, ive heard better Gravity jams (tim chilled more than usual in the first or \'main\' jam but then ripped the shit outta it when they went back into the singing) but it was real tight. sounded like the crowd was going apeshit for them the whole time and i love how it seems like the more yells the sicker the jam gets. its like Monsters Inc. where kids screams produce energy for the world. Buquebus was just off the hook, are you kiddin me? i like that it was a little shorter than most versions, they attacked it hard straight through and the last couple minutes is insanity. great drop into Sir Psycho, but havent listened to it yet.

i was thinkin about it and there have got to be plenty of people spreading the word about TB without \'reporting\' here. i wasnt an internet dork like all of you until only months ago and i dont have a single friend that posts on boards period. i think this show is gonna pull a lot more fans in than we think. then again, i could be totally off, we\'ll see.

Does anyone know the going price to get TB to play in your area?  I\'d like to get them a show in South Dakota.

I would prescribe either of the following options to Spacey:

1. Timmy Tour rehab

2. Remedial geograhy lesson among 2nd graders.

Seriously, what is their going rate? Am I allowed to know a ballpark figure? Maybe if I got my hands on some stats I could make a pull to get them out here to a few different venues on a weekend.

when I talked to tim he said they were playing Chicago again on Fall tour and probably Iowa City....I\'m trying to get him to book either Sioux Falls, SD or Minneapolis.  There is a great brewery in Sioux Falls that would cater very well to the boys.

that\'s one thing i think gets missed around here a lot.... TONS of brief hints, barely teases that get thrown in. go back and listen to UAC and see if you notice both jordan and timmy foreshadownig the we want the funk jam with little almost teases of it in the gladys>score craziness. those are just the first ones that pop in my head, but i dare say there\'s always something getting snuck in to most shows.....

as for this show, a couple questions now that i\'ve listened to it a couple times....
1)is it just the recording, or did timmy get a new distortion pedal (rocktron, perhaps)?
2) why was the start delayed?
3) why weren\'t there merch or mailing lists out?
4) why start up a taboot instead of just raging the rufus out? (ok, well this one is a matter of personal preference, but i\'d imagnie its because all of the tunes were shorter versions, in (i\'m guessing) order to play as many different tunes as possible to folks unacquainted with the band and not just constantly jam)
5) how wild is that (basically) entirely n00b crowd? they LOVED that shite!!! i\'ve always thought that the b\'s sound is bigger than the venues they play, and if they got a chance to play big stages with big crowds their intensity wouldn\'t be so overwhelming to the uninitiated. this show (while not on the big stage, per se) confirms my thoughts!

^ great review

Gordo, as much as it pains me to admit it, I think a Thursday night LBC appearance and then a weekend in Chicago is the logical thing. I would love to get them in Lafayette on a Fri/Sat, but it\'s more practical to do Chicago. Can you imagine a night out on the Magnificent Mile with the Magnificent Four?! Shwaaaay....

they cut off taboo because they didnt want to go over the time limit, and didnt know they were at the time limit until the song was going.  they wanted to keep a good reputation, going 39 seconds over, and dobz said if they went a minute over they\'d pull the plugs

not to be argumentative, but it sounded like tim already knew they were short on time (says something about One Last Tune or something like that at the abrupt end of rufus), so i, personally, would have rathered them just rage out the rufus. now, that being said, the tabboo is badass with HUGE energy coming off the boys and i have no problem with it. in fact i think it was probably worthwhile for them to kick into one last tune that left everyone on their feet. but man, to cut short a rufus for a taboo....

ah well, ain\'t my band, ain\'t my call! :)

rufus still had plenty of rage, taboo sounded great, i think it was done well. got the noobs to hear one more song.

jking-- absolutely agree with you on "why the hell was there no merch/mailing list!!!???" i was shocked when i heard that. point #5 --   . couldnt agree more.

kate, my hopes for 1 LBC, 2 Chicago may be a bit greedy. id love it, but hey Lafayette Friday > Chicago Saturday wasnt too shabby. and btw, you better believe your ass is coming up to the city this time around.. ive already made up my mind that a hotel is due for their next spin around Chicago.

1.) I think it is just the recording....my buddy got a picture of his pedal board though but has yet to develop the pictures.
2.) My guess would be because Fat Maw Rooney had way too much shit on stage.  They had their own lights, etc and TB was standing there waiting to load-in while FMR got all of their shit out of there.
3.) I would guess that they knew they werent going to have time after the show to schmooze with anyone....I tried talking to Tim after the show and security made me leave.

Just to fill you\'all in....

We still have not got confirmation on a new agent, not that this is a big problem, because the phoe has been ringing.  The fallout from 10klf has been a lot of calls for dates in the midwest from great new spots.  This will be the basis for a fall tour up yhat way.

Alex was in the hospital for a week, and is still 60 percent....but most of the hold up is still on the agent side.  Hopefully this will resolve on Friday.

There is a lot of good momentum, and I expect Moe.down will continue that.  A little more support in the midwest will make the tour routing a lot easier.

Looks like I need to get my ass up to LBC and tell the owner to get on the ball for fall booking. It\'s wishful thinking, but it would be ser if TB stopped by LBC/Chicago at the beginning of the tour, then made another stop on the way back. Gordo, I have a good friend that goes to IL Institute of Art and has an apt about 6 blocks from Navy Pier. If a hotel falls through, I know she would take us in. Knowing my friend Jeremy, though, he would probably just drive back to Lafayette at 3 AM.

BTW, I talked to a guy on Shakedown at the Widespread concert that knows the guys who run Schwagstock in the Ozarks. I think it\'s this weekend, actually? Anyway, I gave him a TB sampler and told him about the websites. He\'d heard TB before and said that if they made it to Schwagstock next summer, it would be awesome exposure for a lot of small-medium sized venue owners further west of the Mississippi. Just a thought for the future.

The Schwag... Yeah, I agree, they’re a small Dead cover band from here in Iowa City and I feel the name is a direct reflection on the bands talent. (No offence to the band or anything. Okay maybe a little bit.)  I\'m digging what I\'m reading with the fall tour coming up and all. One night at the LBC and two in the big city! I wouldn\'t hesitate to make it to all three, but let’s not forget Iowa.  It\'s already been placed on the map twice and the crowd has been growing for the past year and a half awaiting the 3rd arrival.

Not to be greedy or anything, but I think a strong tour throughout the mid-west is just what the guys need about now. Us country fellers need a good grove to rock to when working the fields :)

I\'m glad to hear that my recording is getting some play!  I recently uploaded the Particle and Perpetual Groove sets from 10KLF to the Archive but they\'re still processing.  My rig sounds much better outdoors and with a (borrowed) pre-amp.  Check \'em out if you get a chance.

I\'d love to have The Breakfast stop in Saint Louis on their fall tour.  I suppose Iowa City and Chicago aren\'t that far (in midwest terms - not sure how you East Coasters classify "close"), but maybe I can put in a good word with a friend who books for a club here.

FWIW, The Schwag (http://www.theschwag.com) is from Missouri and they play every Wednesday here in Saint Louis.  They\'ve been around for over 10 years and maintain a mailing list with 6000 names - that\'s a lot of potential new TB fans!  They recently purchased some land near Salem, MO (2 hours SW of STL) called Camp Zoe (http://www.campzoe.com/) and use it to throw several Schwagstocks every year.  I haven\'t been down there yet but it\'s apparently quite a scene.  It\'s a really beautiful part of the state and their property has a number of swimming holes, rivers for floating, and nice hiking/camping spots.  A lot of my crew are heading down there this weekend for the Euphio Campout but I have to go to a wedding

jill and i were just discussing local venues for them last night. unfortunately there\'s not really a good, smaller place around here (their last trip to dc was a great show, but an unpleasant experience that they don\'t wish to repeat). the best bet around here would be the tuesday night gig at the state theatre in falls church. every tuesday they have nationally touring smaller jambands for cheap, which is a great way to see these "newer" bands, but the crowds are usually pretty scarce. weeknight and all. but beyond that, there\'s really not a decent place until you can fill a pretty good size room. its basically the state and the 9:30 club.

as far as would folks like them, i bombed a bartender a couple weeks ago, and last night we went back for the first time, and he\'d burned a bunch of copies for friends and asked for more. so there\'s a possibility. but, as ron says, southerners like music slower than the breakfast plays. outside of this immediate area, i\'d say they should play alley katz (well, probably start at cary street cafe, then go to alley katz) in richmond. there\'s a decent amount of demographically correct folks in richmond, but i\'m not there to spread the word. a bunch of my friends are, but i wouldn\'t count on them to promote with the passion neccessary.

so the answer is, try to get an opening slot at the 9:30 club and play tuesday nights at the state.

i also think they should alternate sets with the bridge in baltimore (to get an automatic fanbase showing up). in fact, the bridge is having quite a string of great openers for the next couple months. not that the bridge is a phenomenal group, but they definitely have the fans.

Jambase.com (http://www.jambase.com/headsup.asp?storyID=7002) has a really nice review of the festival.  They have this to say about TB:

Quote
The Breakfast played a rousing Fireman\'s Nightmare set. The long room that held the Saloon Stage was so crowded that people were hanging out of windows and standing on tables. It was an unbelievable sight as the band played numbers off of their new release Real Radio and threw in a few classic gems as well like "Buquebus" and "Rufus." They also played the Red Hot Chili Peppers\' song, "Sir Psycho Sexy." It was an amazing scene and a great way to end Day 2. "The crowd was very receptive. There were a lot of women, and we played a Chili Peppers song to complement that," cracked drummer Adrian Tramontano.

Oops, my goof. I had a quick chat with these guys earlier this year after a show in Iowa City and it came off like they were from town. I\'ll try not to place misleading or incorrect information in front of your eyes anymore.

Sounds like we\'re getting a lot of positive feedback for TB all over the states. I\'m ecstatic to hear so many great people out to help the band out.

Keep it up.
