I: jam > No Regret, Cut Me Some Slack, May Fly Disarray > Phaddy Boom Baddy, Drum Intro > LDZ > Ahoy!, Fairy, The Other One > Ahoy! > Tribal Funk Affliction > Taboo or Not Taboot > Ahoy!

II: jam > The Chase, Drunk Monk Bar > Language of the Gods, Inner Glimpse, Drum Solo, Rufus, Score

E: (Gypsy Girl?), Acid Queen* > Tribal Funk Affliction*

* Adrian on guitar, Tim on Drums

This is to the best of my knowledge. The setlist is 100% correct, I believe until the end of the 2nd set when all hell was loose. People said they played a 2 song encore, I heard people saying Gypsy Girl but I think it was Acid Queen.

If someone can confirm the ending please do, make corrections as necessary.

May Fly=Ghost

This was the best May Fly to date!

It can\'t be the best Mayfly ever Dave is in Vegas. They would not do that to him. Oh fuck maybe they would!!!!!

Oh and how drunk were you? Acid queen or Gypsy? Must have been torn up not to tell the diff.

gypsy girl wasnt played. acid queen was the first song of the encore and the opening jam  was the mayfly intro jam. other than that i think the setlist is correct.

what a funkin\' nite! highlights for me were the multiple ahoy\'s and the tribal funk from the first set....absolutely ser! plus the blues jam following rufus was sick, i was just standing over by ron and watching him lay it down for timmy to just paint over...lots of delay loops from timmy last night, and after the show at the merch table he was telling a couple of us that since they play diffrently everynight he can\'t always do it, but tonite he said, "the delay was the sound!"...Score was great for a second set closer and the encore was just outta hand!   AHOY!

Great show, highlight was definitely the rotation encore.  I know Ad can play guitar, but I was quite surprised with Tim\'s rock-solid drumming.  Mayfly segues were a cool concept, with each one of the fadeouts before the "Ahoy" section becoming a descent into another song.  Whoever thought of that should be permanent setlist writer.

Amusing, wherever the the Gypsy Girl/Acid Queen confusion started.  They played Acid Queen, which as most of you know is by The Who and on the album "Tommy". Although the song Acid Queen does have frequent repetition of the word "gypsy," the Breakfast original Gypsy Girl has nothing to do with Acid Queen and has been on the shelf for a long, long time.

Title: The Best One Set Breakfast Show Ever. Confirmed
Post by: Stephengencs on July 03, 2005, 10:25:56 am
Holy Friggin Moly....  Just an amazing night at Toads on friday night.  Everything was just about perfect, from the pregame richters>bar>richters to the band coming on when they said they would (thanks to Spacey for not crippling me with a Derrik Thomas sack-esque tackle)...

To say what set was better is like trying to argue between coke and pepsi.  Its all up to personal preference.  Right from the opening jam I knew we were in for a monster of a show.  The band was playing with the fluidity of spilled mercury.

Into No Regret was nice especially given the new shit that has come to light, based on the origins of the tune.  I have heard many people say that No Regret is overplayed.  Personally I feel like I haven\'t heard it in a while and it was great to hear.

Cut Me Some Slack.  Just a solid instrumental and a great "lets get the crowd warm and comfy" song.  I love the intro jam to Slack.  I dont know if this is a relatively new thing, I mean I know they have been playing it like that for some time, but was just wondering if its always been like that or is it just relatively recently that the jam into the slack part has emerged.

Next up is the tune that lit my fuse and sent me off soaring into the moist July evening...May Fly Disarray.  Always one of my all time fav\'s especially the ending "Ahoy" part.  There has been a lot of arguing about the splitting up in parts of the Mayfly part and the Ahoy part.  I have even heard that Ahoy was a tune before Mayfly was a tune.  Regardless, after talking with Wolfman after the show (who broke it down and dropped the knowledge on me), which was later confirmed by TPalms at late night that Mayfly Disarray is how the tune will be labled, even with the Ahoy ending.  Basically they are taking the stand that it is one tune and there is no convincing otherwise.

The point that Fitzy and I were trying to get across is that purely for setlist clarity, there should be some sort of notation.  And upon reading Dave\'s setlist it seems that he has got the notation down...  And that stubborn bastid has to note it as *ending.  Chris and I said that would have like to see it noted as Mayfly Disarray if the entire song is played from beginning to end, and then if it was split up it could be noted as Mayfly for the first part and Mayfly(Ahoy) as the second part.  For some reason there is a strong contingent that just does\'t want Ahoy anywhere in the title.  Oh well.

Now why is there only 2 *ending parts when the Mayfly part was played first and the other 4 times (i missed the mayfly right before Acid Queen for some reason) was the Ahoy part.  Well that is something that I took up with TPalms post show as well.  Basically it was explained to me like this.  The First Mayfly Disarray was the Mayfly part.  The second one would be considered the ending because it was the Ahoy part played in its entirety with the "now we welcome light and ahoys and all".  The Third and Fourth time was just the ending guitar and musical riffs of the end of the Ahoy part, so therefore it shouldnt be called Ahoy or noted as the end part.  This I dont understand, but who am I to argue with TPalms for too long....

So intertwined in the complete Mayfly insanity was a ser LDZ w/ Drum intro.  Man was I hopin for an HDX, but I was far from disappointed by the boys heading back into Mayfly(Ahoy).  I was running around Toads like a madman by this point.  There is a great spot to watch adrian and I was up there screaming and rocking along with the best drummer I have ever had the pleasure to watch beat dem skins.

Fairy was a real treat and probably the tune I least expected to see.  Just a rocker from beginning to end.  It seemed that they even held back during the first verse to really build the tune up and fucking rock some faces by the end.

When I heard them go into the Other One, I was outside smokin a butt and I just stayed there.  If I was to go stand infront of that song, I could pretty much guarantee that I wouldn\'t be around today.  All I could think is how far these kids have come that they could play an amazing version of this tune without having anyone to come up and sing the lyrics for them.

I did have to come running out, full speed, when I heard the Tribal Funk Afflicition.  I would beg to say that there was a Mommy Whats A Funkadellic tease in it, but that is unconfirmed and could only be because I want to hear Tribal Mommy Tribal all the time....  It was well played and unfinished as they went into Taboot or Not Taboot.

By this time I was blown away and could have gone home a happy camper.  But whats this?  setbreak?  The breakfast should never ever ever ever play another one set show again, unless they are opening for a national act in a theater or larger.  Personally I think they should bring back the acoustic set and play 3 sets, but thats just me.

The second set started with an organ intro>chase.  I dont necessarily remember hearing a "jam" but I was outside smokin with Whatthefunk (nice meetin ya kid) before darting inside.

The Chase, is another tune I had felt that was getting a bit overplayed, but rocking to it on Friday, I was in a state of complete euphoria and just let it take me away.

Drunk Monk Bar.  Basically blew hinges and frames off the doorways where the doors had already been blown off during the first set.

Language and Inner Glimpse were only heard by me.  I really needed to take a rest and headed outside to chat it up a bit and drink a nice cold $5 Budweiser.

Drum Solo.  Like a breakfast show, everyone is always better than the next.  There was some new beats and licks I heard that made me really excited for Adrians "Big Bang" going down at Porters soon.

Now we come to Rufus.  First off.  To say the Rufus owns Buquebus based on Fridays performance is complete bullshit since there was no Buquebus played to compare it to.  And that is the triple truth ruth.  Now back to the Rufus.  It just about brought tears to my eyes.  Mercury.  I tried to find out if the blues jam was new or if its followed Rufus before.  I got nothing but an "I think there have been Rufus>Blues jams before".  I was able to confirm that there were NO Episode III teases during the blues jam (From TPalms).  However, I will leave the official confirmage up to Fitzy who has EP III and the 7-1-05 Rufus on tape.  Either way, when Ep III does get unveiled by the Breakfast, the venue better be prepared with barf bags, because people will be getting sick.....

By the time that nonsense was over and they blew up with a Score second set closer, I was basically begging the band for mercy.  What a supercharged show.

Again I found myself outback taking a breather to preserve my time on this planet for a little longer.  Being outside helped and hurt me.  I missed some stuff, even thought I could hear all the music from the back smoking section.  I however completely missed the mayfly ending before Acid Queen.  As soon as I heard that, I bolted from the smoking section right up on the ramp on Sequoia side.  I almost crapped my pants and fell to the ground when I saw a lanky 4 eyed TPalms smacking the shit outta Acid Queen.  I had thought the TPalms drumtime existed only during ser doozies and Smokin Boomer shows.  The talent that this band posseses is just limitless....When looking over to the center stage all I could see was "The Hat" and a guitar from behind Jordan\'s setup, that was howling such a breathtaking sound.  It is truly frightening when you realize the talent that each member of the band has.  It is even more frightening when you accept the fact that they are better each time they take the stage and will be getting better for a long long time to come.

The Tribal conclusion was the knockout punch in this deathmatch between the breakfast and the estimated 325+ raging fans in attendance.  Unlike any other breakfast show I have seen at toads, the crowd that was there at the beginning was the crowd that was there at the end.  There may have been a few more people toward the end then during the begining.  SER Indeed.

Regarding the setlist wolfy, I am not sure if your comments were there because you had a hand in the composing of the setlist, but I was told that the setlist was created by the 4 bandmembers and that is it.  Either way it was amazing and I cannot wait to see what is in store for us the next time...

Late night was exactly that....LATE.  Thanks to Pete the fan for housing one of the 2 late night gatherings.  Thanks to PrincessCaspian for the amazingly refreshing platter of strawberries and pineapple.  And the mini M&M cookies were perfect.

I have no idea what its gonna look like but the Timmy Tour Movie was in full effect on Friday and should be for a few weeks to come.  Toads was the only breakfast show that is scheduled during the estimated production time of the TTMovie, so thanks to everyone for making it such a great night.  If you have any thoughts or ideas regarding anything you wish to see or say on the movie, please contact ChrisF or me, or just show up to Richters or Martini\'s in the coming weeks.....The more people involved, the better this movie will be.

There was a private party yesterday in Branford where Tim, Adrian, and Ron played.  I entertained thoughts of trying to get there, but on my walk from Pete The Fans to Union Station at 8:30 am, I realized that I was doing nothing on Saturday...and that is exactly what I did.....

Holy friggin moly, what a review Steve!  That was great.  After reading that I feel like I didn\'t even need to be there to know what happened.  I certainly had nothing to do with the setlist.  Heck I didn\'t even get there until the last opener was midway through their set.  (Comments on that band withheld.)  I\'m sure the guys came up with the set, but whichever one of them came up with that idea should be given exclusive setlist-writing powers for 10 shows.

damn steve, great review.  i dont think i remember any mayfly jam happening before acid queen and i was standing right in front of the stage, but that could also be due to the large chunks of my brain that were blown off by the band\'s endless talent.

yeah i dunno about jam>the chase either, the same thing has been listed as organ jam > the chase but i wouldn\'t just call it "jam".  but thats all just semantics, anyone who was there (or read gencs\' review) knows that it was ser as fuck regardless of what the setlist says.

TTmovie will be ser too.

come to richters this wed. ;)

I really needed to take a rest and headed outside to chat it up a bit and drink a nice cold $5 Budweiser.

Excellent review Stevo!

I\'m a little sickened by the notion of a $5 Budweiser after seeing 30-packs on sale for $9.99 at my local grocer.   You theoretically drank a beer from a $150 30-pack (or a $53 gallon for that matter).

Sounds like the guys really impressed the crowd.  How many bands consistently push the frontier for their fans?

I think Dave listed a similar performance at the Iron Horse from early Feb. of this year as "Extended Organ Intro".

Any way you label it, I love the improvisation from Jordan preceeding The Chase or in the context of any other Breakfast composition.

Definetly a chill song, IVe just heard it too many times.  They pretty much stick to the original blue prints with it too.  Nothing too crazy, I believe Breakfast plays it simply for the fact so peoples heads won\'t explode from too much crazy jamming.

They song is aggressive in the fact that it is an up tempo tune. I have seen them play it in places where no one is really there and it is a way to create some energy. It is a good tune and has its place.

fuckin nuts. just got back from High Sierra so i didnt see the setlist until now. MayFly all over the place! love it! both sets look ridiculous, cant wait to hear the switch-a-roo between TPalms and Animal. all week i preached about TB to people, telling them theyre missing out on the best band out there. was also wishing they were there melting minds in Quincy, kept thinkin about how timmy wouldve torn up the Guitarmageddon and all the sit-ins that wouldve been possible!?! cant wait til i get a chance to see em again, the 4 day festival was unbelievable..... but it also confirmed who\'s the best, and they werent there.

I was given a sneak preview audio copy of this show last night.  I listened to it last night upon return from Martini\'s and I am rocking it out right now.  The quality is great, to my ears, and the memories are just flooding back......

I realize that in my review I didnt really mention anything about Ron and Jordan who were just as much on fire as Tim and Adrian.  The Breakfast is a fucking face owning machine.....

P.S. I believe a screening of the Toads DVD will be going down at late night tonight, so come on down to richters tonight peoples....

it was too funny to edit out. kind of like on americas funniest home videos when the camera gets hit and the colors go crazy like you are tripping or something.

i was more concerned about the mic stand though...the audio sounds like you are underwater for a couple seconds. it could have been much much worse though. at least nothing broke.

i need to keep reminding myself where i am.  i passed out for approx 20 minutes and steve woke me up and took me to the train station.  this douchebag on the train was loud as fuck so i couldn\'t get any shut eye.  then i had to change my shirt, and brush my teeth and like... get presentable looking in the bathroom at grand central (the nice new one not the shitty old one).  and now here i am 3 eggs w/extra cheese & butter on a roll, and two red bulls later, and i\'m kinda managing to be coherent.

is jordan a huge old-school Michael Jackson fan? i remember he teased Billie Jean in Gravity on 3.12.05, and after that doozie in Columbus on 3.30 he was pulling off a crazy moonwalk to something off of Thriller after all 10 people cleared the dancefloor.. he was having a real good time doin it, leg kicks and all, and there were moments where it looked like he was seriously practicing it.
