the weaksauce gets the shaft in the first round for sure! not sure we\'ll be seeing any upsets there...

Paul, you can definitely send me your first round votes if you want, since you\'re not gonna be around. can\'t do anything after that though, since you won\'t know the outcome..

Interesting brackets. Like the names of the brackets, fo\' sure. Do we need to have an account on the Bracket Makers or can we just post our pics here  and not even worry about the other page?

posting the predictions here is fine, and makes it easy to discuss, though it could get messy. if you make an account at bracketmakers, you can just click your predictions, and it saves everyone\'s predictions there..

when the voting starts on sunday, you\'ll be voting for the song you like better in each of the 32 head-to-head matchups. people should make their \'predictions\' in this thread, as to who they think will win (for bragging rights, just like filling out NCAA brackets).

actual voting (battles) for songs begins sunday, and will be done here.

the bracket site is for making predictions (and seeing how the actual brackets look).

NCAA tournament - when you fill out brackets, you\'re not playing the games, you\'re making predictions as to who you think will win, BEFORE the tournament starts. voting starts here on sunday, and we will be doing one round per week.

there\'s the word i was looking for. good call wolf. you truly are verbal vinegar for the biters down at the salad bar.

for those of you who aren\'t getting the confirmation emails (has anyone got one successfully?), there\'s this:

Quote
Important Notes About Your Email Address
First note that we do not sell your personal info to anyone. We hate spam just as much as you do, but there is a good reason why we require email verification. It is for the purpose of helping to prevent abuse of our website, which is necessary because we are allowing anyone to enter content. In this way there is at least some level of accountability.

So, make sure you have entered your address correctly or else you will not receive your password. In fact, that\'s why we have created this info box, due to the number of bounced emails we have received on a daily basis.

There are a variety of reasons why you might not receive the email:

    * If you use anti-spam or "junk mail" filtering, these filters are not always 100% accurate and may erroneously identify legitimate emails as being junk. Check your filtered mail inbox and also add the bracketmaker.com domain to your whitelist (trusted senders) if you have that option.

    * AOL users in particular: Don\'t forget the @aol.com part. Also, your email address is not a website so it does not begin with "www". 8-)

    * Former @Home users: Apparently some of you haven\'t heard that your former user@home.com email address is no longer valid. If you have not yet received notice about that, please find out what your new email address is before attempting to register.

    * Typos: Be sure to proofread your typing. One simple mistake is all it takes for your password to end up in limbo land.

    * Some email providers automatically deactivate accounts if they have not been used after a certain number of days. If you haven\'t checked your email recently, send yourself a test message before submitting this registration form.

If you do not receive the email promptly, try sending yourself a test message to verify that there isn\'t a problem with your mail server. If you do not receive your own test message, that means there is something is wrong on your end. For example, ask your ISP if their mail server is busy.

If you have tested your email and are certain that you entered your address correctly, it may be that our mail server is busy. It happens now and then, but it is rare and should never be tied up for more than two hours or so.

i\'d say if you don\'t hear anything by tomorrow, try contacting them (http://www.bracketmaker.com/contact.cfm) to let them know about the problem.

here\'s one thing of note (edit: this should answer your ? marcial):

i think their definitions of \'bracket\' and \'tournament\' are different than mine. i created a tournament, and then 4 brackets within, but i don\'t think it understands that the winners of those 4 brackets will face each other. in which case, i\'d need to make a new bracket when the final 4 rolls around. i could have had one 64-team bracket, but then i wouldn\'t be able to put the regions. anyways, i\'m not about to go and do it all over again, so this will have to do..

Title: Bracketology by Wolfman
Post by: Wolfman on June 08, 2005, 11:13:23 pm
Hello everybody!  This is your old pal Wolfman.  Let\'s break down the brackets for some predicitons in this year\'s fantastic Tournament of Tunes!

Pearl Street Bracket:

Scheme sits atop a very strong overall bracket.  Scheme is clearly epic, though it may lose some ground due to lack of number of performances.  At least one 12 seed always wins, and Phaddy Boom Baddy is the 12 you love to go with here.  People love marijuana songs.  Look for a hot round 1 matchup with Score.  The bottom of the bracket features 3 instrumental underdogs.  They all have a battle, but the most likely to emerge alive is Frankly Po Zest over ballad Vera Street.  Hardluck Harry was a surprise 2 seed, look for 3 seed Sundance to score the upset in the Sweet Sixteen.  I predict a Scheme v. Sundance regional final coming down to the wire.

Winner: Sundance
Upset Special: Phaddy over Score

The Booth Bracket:

#1 seed Rufus is very hot coming off the other poll that inspired this tournament, as well as frequent airplay on Sirius 17.  I will probably be the only person voting for Beer Jubilee, since the song is about going to the afterparty at my house and I\'m mentioned by name in the song.  LDZ vs. Eppy 1 in the 8 v. 9 spot is an intruiging old-school matchup.  May go to overtime there.  Rufus should cruise to the regional final.  The bottom half of the bracket features a very hot and underseeded Doughboy at #6.  Taboot will have its hand full with Doughboy in round 2.   Look for Escher\'s to eek it out with strong lyric play and take on Rufus in the final.

Winner: Rufus
Upset Special: Doughboy over Taboot

Toad\'s Place Bracket:

Buquebus is a lock for a 1 seed but will face an early test against Puppetry in the Sweet 16.  This is the most straightforward bracket.  Upsets seem unlikely.  However, Funky Bill, despite low frequency of performance, should be strong given that it only seems to be played when the show is really getting insane.  Unlike the other 2/3 matchups, Gravity will come in as a big favorite over Fiery Ball.  The regional final will be interesting, with perennial powerhouse Buquebus taking on young upstart Gravity.

Winner: Gravity
Upset Special: Funky Bill over Sleeping Beauty

Winston\'s Bracket:

#1 seed Mooboo\'s Voodoo also comes in scorching hot, having just become the song mentioned on the first ever unofficial Breakfast T-Shirts.  Also, a solid rendition Friday night in New York with an Eppy I sandwich means that Mooboo\'s is peaking at the right time.  Conversely, 4 seed Spunk has had limited rotation over the last couple of years, which will hurt its chances against hippie anthem Vermont Song.  Just like 13 seed Vermont beat Syracuse in Basketball, look for 13 seed Vermont Song to beat Spunk here.  In the weirdest round 1 matchup, I like Lit to hold off Wild Pack.  People like Lit beacuse they don\'t know what it is.  And it\'s about marijuana.  Tribal won\'t be tested until Gladys Pimp in the Sweet 16, but Tribal has the huge advantage of being the first song on Deuce, whereas Gladys Pimp has yet to make an album.  That should seal the deal for Tribal.  Rounding out a series of 4 bombastic regional finals, the first song on Deuce will succumb to the last song on Deuce.

Winner: Mooboo\'s Voodoo (Episode II)
Upset Special: Vermont Song over Spunk

FINAL FOUR: Sundance vs. Roofus.  Sundance comes in with stronger composition, vocal arrangement, and overall complexity.  However, Roofus counters with more frequent play, more clutch plays (Baker Quad, Camp Creek, Bona Fide, etc.) and a catchy reggae hook.  (This is a popularity contest, after all.)  Though both are equal jam vehicles, more great jams have come out of Roofus.  I don\'t know how I will vote yet, but I think more people are into Roofus right now.

Gravity vs. Eppy II: The thing you have to love about Gravity is that it has yet to produce its best performance.  It is one of the rising young stars of the lineup, and will no doubt be coming through in some huge spots very soon.  After the shocker over powerhouse Buqeubus though, it will not have enough legs left to take down the red-hot and well-established Mooboo\'s Voodoo.

FINAL: Roofus v. Mooboo\'s Voodoo (Episode II)
The 2 hottest Breakfast songs have blazed their way to the championship.    Both songs have mood-setting composition in the beginning before the verse comes in.  Both songs have epic mid-song jams that peak at a chorus reprise.  Both songs feature catchy choruses.  Roofus features humor, but Mooboo\'s counters with soul.  Both songs have been played in huge spots.  It\'s a very, very tough vote.  However, given all the recent hoopla with the T-shirts, the NYC Sandwich, Freddie\'s campaigning and the Episodes discussions, the force is with Episode II.

Happy Voting!

no. the links are there to random versions of the songs just to provide people with a listen if they haven\'t heard the song before.

again, the bracketmaker.com site is for your PREDICTIONS, not your VOTE as to which song you like better. your \'picks\' at bracketmaker.com will have no affect on the outcome of the tournament. the VOTING begins sunday.

alrighty...i did my predictions on bracketmaker.com.......  first off....the user interface on that sight is weak as hell....but i am assuming it is free so there you go...you get what you pay for...unless its the breakfast.info....the givingest message board for the givingest band in rock and roll.........

Pearl Street Bracket
There are a couple of tough first round matches here, well for me anyway.
the WTF/Fairy and Score/PhaddyBoom are what i see as tough calls to make.....but I do not see Scheme losing to any tune in this bracket......I would see HLH, Coma, and Score as the final four in this bracket and it would be a HUGE upset to see Scheme loose.....  I cant see Phaddy Boom upsetting Score first round.

Toads Place
I see Buquebus making it to the finals here, along with Drunk Monk Bar.  I personally like Drunk Monk to take this bracket.  There are some ser jammers in this one, Puppetry/Buquebus/Gravity/GBFBITS....  I think HDX may be the best tune in the bracket, but I dont see it beating Gravity....   And old schoolers may tend to lean towards the Puppetry....

Winstons Bracket
For me, this is the tougest bracket to choose....I want to know who was on this small comittee who seeded these songs and made these brackets, because the Winstons Bracket will tear a breakfast fan\'s heart into shreds..
I dont see any other tune winning other than Episode 2.  May Fly and Tribal Funk are probably the 2 biggest contenders....Especially the May Flys of recent..  I will be sad to see Food For Thought go down, but I think it will...I hope it can make it at least to the final four of the bracket...

The Booth Bracket
This is where I maybe forsee the bigest upset.  If Heather can pull of the upset over Beef Barley (AND IT SHOULD PEOPLE), I think it can take the bracket....It would be a huge upset for it to beat Rufus and that is where she\'ll probably meet her demise, but I am pullin hard for her....Attraction and Doughboy should end up giving Rufus a run for its money....

My Final Four Prediction:
Heather
Scheme
Drunk Monk Bar
Episode 2 (Mooboos Voodoo) (WINNER)

All in all it should be an interesting tournament....I am curious to see how people will vote....will they go with their hearts or will they go with their true feelings on what is a better song?  who knows....

i will vote for heather.  self titled record has been a ser choice in my cd rotation recently and i can see that swinging my votes.  i\'ve been teaching myself how to play the songs and it has given me a lot of insight into where their writing style evolved from.  first record: definitly gonna be strong in my votes for this tournament.

That is what I like to hear....well confirmed 2 votes for Heather...

I was going to give Heather my vote anyways, and Im always hopefully for a heatherful heather any bfast show I go to

next show probably be in Aug. for hte Rocks of hte Boat Cruise, but that is still somewhat up in the air? Anyone know what time the breakfast will be playing and how late they usually run too. But I\'ll definately be at moedown

I\'m going to have to think about Beef vs. Heather.  It\'s not an automatic either way.  Way overplayed song vs. way underplayed song.  Hard to know how to adjust for that.  But please, let\'s not go nuts here, Uncle Freddy is a 3-minute instrumental noodle, whereas Sundance couldn\'t be played by any other band that exists right now.  Maybe people haven\'t heard Sundance.  If you don\'t have a CD version handy, cue up Radio Joe 5/5/1 (it\'s the first track), close your eyes for 12 minutes, then come back to the thread.

Although Sundance is vintage breakfast and couldnt be played by any band other than the breakfast, I still get such a charge out of the Uncle Freddy licks...just soothing like the sounds of a rainstorm through your window on a sunday afternoon when you are just chillin on the couch with your girl....

The question that begs to be asked then, is how did a 3 minute noodler get paired up agains a friggin monster like sundance......

Regardless I have made no real final decisions other than I am definatly pullin all tourney for Heather.....

i know there are some huge rufus fans out there. but as a member of team buquebus im going to have to go with LDZ with the upset in the 2nd round. thats right rufus doesnt even make my sweet 16.

maybe ill give rufus a closer listen too, but Ive been a fan of LDZ for a while

shit just listened to the link to Rufus and I might have to change my vote.

one question I do have though, are we voting on inverted STL or regular one.

The Booth is the my hardest bracket so far but Im only have way though it,it havent picked any of hte other brackets yet
pretty much a toss up I can really chose between any of them.

Might be easier to have people vote who\'ve never heard the songs before that way your get a more instinctal response. this shit is gonna be hard

its good a thing that the bracketmanager predications are what we think other people will chose instead of what I enjoy more.

wish they all could win, I mean I love Attraction but its up against D5

I\'m lucky here on the west coast as I began voting at 9pm, before heading out on the town for the night.  All I have to do now is sit back and read all the comments.  I would feel a little overwhelmed sifting through all the bracket threads on Sunday afternoon.

Post by: Wolfman on June 19, 2005, 12:43:52 pm
The Fantastically Fabulous Round 1 Recap!
Round 1 of the first annual .info Tournament of Tunes has come and gone.  There was action and excitement, late combacks, joy and heartbreak.  But really, the party begins in round 2.  Round 1 was a good opportunity for some songs to get some tourney experience, but at the end of the day there were only 3 upsets...two 10 seeds and one 11 seed.  (Unless you want to count the three victorious 9-seeds as upsets.)  Let\'s rundown some of the more interesting matchups:

Pearl Street Region:
In the most surprising bracket, top seed Scheme pulled the only shutout over hapless Prom \'97.  In the closest battle of the week, the fans showed their emotional side in voting #9 Fairy over #8 What the Funk by one vote.  #5 Score rocked #12 Phaddy Boom Baddy by thirty-four votes, proving that Phaddy is a program in trouble.  3 years ago it would have been a contender to win, now it faces near Bouncing-Around-The-Room-Status.  It\'s not a bad song, but the fans seem to have turned on it for the time being.  The 10, 11, and 14 seeds were all instrumental underdogs, but two out of three emerged victorious.  #10 Frankly Po Zest doubled up #7 Vera Street, while #11 Wake Up in a Coma beat #6 No Regret going away.  While I did predict FPZ over Vera Street, your humble author is very surprised that two old-school instrumentals that do not get played very often so easily defeated two songs on the newest album.  That would have made for a hot parlay.

The Booth Region:
#1 seed Rufus easily defeated Beer Jubilee, but Beer Jubilee became the crowd darling of the first round.  Team Jubilee did an excellent job getting the name and the song out there, and for the first time in three years there were many "Bring Back Beer Jubilee" posts.  Beer Jubilee is a song on the rise right now.  In a surprisingly lopsided old-school 8/9 battle, #9 Eppy I crushed #8 LDZ.  To some extent Eppy I is riding on the coattails of the en fuego Eppy II.  Two more old-school vs. Real Radio matchups showed that there is a lot of old-school sentiment coming into the tournament.  #6 seed Doughboy only held off #11 Cut Me Some Slack by two votes, while #10 seed Attraction pummeled #7 Dimension 5 by thirty votes.  Doughboy has opened a ton of sets in the last year and is on the new album, yet could only win by 2 over a rare old-school instrumental.  Attraction, which is 90% instrumental, took down another Real Radio song in a battle of Ron songs.

Toad\'s Place Region:
A very straightforward region featured a see-saw battle between #8 Garcian Fishbowl and #9 Question Mark and the Mind.  In the end old-school won out again as Garcian pulled through by four votes.  Other than that, this bracket really begins this week.

Winston\'s Region
No close matchups and no upsets.  Further advancing the old-school powerhouse theory, #8 Superfly handily took down #9 Fresh Cut.  Real tourney begins now.

Round 1 was a nice appetizer, and the heavyweight battles are yet to come.  Check out my Totally Tubular Round 2 Predictions post!

******************************************************
The Totally Tubular Round 2 Predictions!

Now that we know how many people are voting, we can do some point spreads and money lines :)  Note: I am not taking action on these lines, as it may compromise the integrity of the tourney.  These lines are being provided as a service if you would like to place wagers amongst yourselves.

Pearl Street Region:
1 Scheme
9 Fairy

Spead: Scheme -55
Money Line: Scheme -2800
Odds to win it all: Scheme 6:1, Fairy 10,000:1
Comment: Scheme should win handily, but will be tested later.

4 Inner Glimpse
5 Score

Spread: Score -7
Money Line: Score -140
Odds to Win It All: Score 225:1, Inner Glimpse 400:1
Comment: This one\'s gonna be close!  After a tough first round for Real Radio, it will be forced to lose another song.

3 Sundance
11 Wake Up In A Coma

Spread: Sundance -17
Money Line: Sundance -225
Odds to Win It All: Sundance 125:1, WUIAC 500:1
Comment: Lots of composition go into this heady mathchup, but Sundance has too much versatility for WUIAC.

2 Hardluck Harry
10 Frankly Po Zest

Spread: Harry -23
Money Line: Harry -330
Odds to Win It All: HLH 12:1, FPZ 475:1
Comment: HLH does not need assistance badly...yet.

The Booth Region:
1 Rufus
9 Episode I (Happy)

Spread: Rufus -29
Money Line: Rufus -1350
Odds To Win It All: Rufus 5:2, Eppy I 750:1
Comment: Eppy I will make a strong showing against the top seed, but Team Rufus will ensure victory.

4 See The Light
5 Beef Barley

Spread: STL -7.5
Money Line: STL -170
Odds To Win It All: STL 110:1, BB 160:1
Comment: Super old-school matchup, STL has the early edge off of an impressive squashing of Bugs.

3 Taboo or Not Taboot
6 Doughboy

Spread: TONT -4.5
Money Line: TONT -130
Odds To Win It All: TONT 30:1, Doughboy 60:1
Comment: As an oddsmaker I have to make TONT the slight favorite, but I\'ll stick with my pre-tourney prediction that this will be Doughboy\'s money day.

2 Escher\'s Etchings
10 Attraction to Shade Ditty

Spread: Escher\'s -22
Money Line: Escher\'s -450
Odds To Win It All: Eschers 10:1, ATSD 400:1
Comment: ATSD will always be a fan favorite, but Escher\'s will be transcending the mood in this matchup.

Toad\'s Place Region:
1 Buquebus
9 Garcian Fishbowl

Spread: Buquebus -37.5
Money Line: Buquebus -2250
Odds To Win It All: Buquebus 3:2, Garcian 2500:1
Comment: Eat Your Buquebus \'Cross The Nation

4 The Chase
5 Puppetry

Spread: The Chase -2
Money Line: The Chase -115
Odds To Win It All: Chase 180:1, Puppetry 190:1
Comment: Toughest to predict of them all.  The Chase gets the slight edge due to a couple of people who are super-rowdy Chase fans.

3 Great Big Fiery Ball in the Sky
6 Sleeping Beauty

Spread: Fiery Ball -13
Money Line: Fiery Ball -170
Odds To Win It All: Fiery Ball 180:1, Sleeping Beauty 500:1
Comment: No sleepers here...Fiery Ball moves to the Sweet 16.

2 Gravity
7 Drunk Monk Bar

Spread: Gravity -24.5
Money Line: Gravity -420
Odds To Win It All: Gravity 12:1, DMB 300:1
Comment: This means war!  Going against the old-school power theory, new muscle Gravity eliminates Drunk Monk Bar.

Winston\'s Region
1 Mooboo\'s Voodoo (Episode II)
8 Superfly Phaddy Fat

Spread: Eppy II -60
Money Line: Eppy II -3250
Odds To Win It All: Eppy II 1:1, SPF 5500:1
Comment: Eppy II will have its voodoo in SPF\'s head all week long.

4 Spunk
5 Merge

Spead: Pick \'Em
Money Line: Merge -100
Odds To Win It All: Spunk 600:1, Merge 600:1
Comment: Dead heat.  Choose wisely.

3 Gladys Pimp and Kangaroos With Me
6 Mayfly Disarray

Spread: Mayfly -2
Money Line: Mayfly -115
Odds To Win It All: Gladys 210:1, Mayfly 200:1
Comment: Mayfly comes into the second round as the only lower seed to be a favorite due to much more frequent rotation.

2 Tribal Funk Affliction
7 Wild Pack of Asscracks

Spread: TFA -31
Money Line: TFA -550
Odds To Win It All: TFA 19:1, WPOA 124:1
Comment: Nice showing by WPOA in round 1, but TFA and Eppy II seem pre-destined for a showdown in the regional final.

Happy Voting!

I would like to see the band play the "Elite 8" as a show. I know we have not gotten there yet but with the 16 we got now the 8 that make it will be monsters. I was thinking that the sweet 16 would be a great 2 set show, but an 8 song show would just be the perfect way for the band to explore each of these songs DEEPLY.
