Title: .info Chat Room (Round 2) Now Open!!
Post by: davepeck on April 03, 2005, 11:23:37 am
got rid of vBchat.. i didn\'t like it.

FlashChat is now up and running - click on the \'Chat\' link at the top in the navbar. i\'ll also be adding it to the side menu shortly.

still have to tweak it a bit, but it\'s ready to be used.

you now have the option of chatting in a module on the site, or in a new window.

the \'users in chat\' section on the forums front page works now. however, you must physically log out of chat in order for it to update properly. if you simply close your browser, or navigate away from chat, you will still show up as logged in.

check out the \'options\' section.. there\'s a lot of things you can customize, like sounds, skins, etc..

post any feedback here..

known issue: the \'search\' and \'quick links\' drop-down menus seem to go behind the chat window. i\'m working on this..

Logging out of chat logs you off the site completely??? A hassle I could live with if need be.

duane - what seems to be the problem? what browser are you using?

fyi, you need to have macromedia flash installed.. get it here if you don\'t have it already:

http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash

let me know what\'s going on. you\'re one of the ones that was pushing for a chat room, and i\'d hate for you to not be able to use it..

seems anytime i go in there no one\'s around or someone is just in there not talking and it makes things too akward for me so i leave..

is there any way to have some kind of box/notification on the homepage that shows who is in the chat room at that specific time? i know nothing about web design, but if it\'s possible, i think it would help out a lot.

one thing on the pt board that people do is bump the chat thread to let others know they are in there. it seems to work.

Dave, i cant get the chat room to work in firefox. It works for me in IE just fine, but in firefox the entire .info page just stays completely blank white and it says "Done" in the status bar at the bottom of firefox.

EDIT: i just thought that i would mention that i CAN access the chat room in firefox by going to http://thebreakfast.info/forum/FlashChat/flashchat.php manually (and it comes in on full screen too! :) ). but i didnt think you would want people to be in the chat room outside of a .info page otherwise it would have been like that in the first place.

i have no idea what happened but it just started working seconds ago on this computer only. did you do anything, dave?

I have noticed that the last one to leave the chat room is sometimes still listed as being in the chat for a while after on the main forum page, sometimes more than several hours. Maybe if i am the last one to leave the chat room and then i try to log in from another computer its that bug that causes me to just get a blank page.

nope, i didn\'t do anything.. just verified that it was working for me..

about the login thing:

Quote from: davepeck
the \'users in chat\' section on the forums front page works now. however, you must physically log out of chat in order for it to update properly. if you simply close your browser, or navigate away from chat, you will still show up as logged in.
