Title: The Breakfast Featured in New Issue of Relix Magazine!

The Breakfast is featured in the December / January 2005 issue of Relix Magazine (http://www.relix.com/) (Umphrey\'s McGee).

The 2-page \'Spotlight\' spread on pages 26-27, which highlights the band\'s career and Jammy Award victory, was written by our own Diana Bellettieri, and features photograpy by our own Todd Anderson! The Breakfast also gets a mention on the cover.

Be sure to pick up Relix when it hits the stands, or go to the Relix Website (http://www.relix.com/) to subscribe!

Woah, al, can\'t believe you\'ve not heard of Relix - I\'ve even seen it on news stands in London!! It started off as a deadhead publication in the main, but has expanded to cover the jamband scene and beyond. Don\'t know their global circulation, but it\'s going to be pretty big!!

I have heard of it but don\'t know anything about its scope.  I just know that they love to chronicle the hippies (and some good music like the Breakfast on occasion).

It\'s practically a parody of a listing.  

Sounds like some of the times when we make fun of the hippies.

I\'m sure there are plenty of heady vegan jammy chicks out there that will jump through hoops for that guy.  Probably works.

cant wait to purchase my first Relix! Should be seen by thousands so lets hope we get some more action on the board here and at shows for christ sake. Hopefully the article isnt like the \'top ten bands that should have never changed their name\'

You\'re not one of them Jocelyn.  Some people get completely into the groove and dance accordingly and I believe you fall into this category.  There are others who try their hardest (no one I know from this forum but generally they are prevalent at jam shows) to become part of the scene and try some heady dances to follow the status quo, looking totally foolish in the process.  There were some good examples of this at the Iron Horse show.  I can tell when things looked forced on the dance floor.

alex, i can\'t say that there\'s anything that annoys me more than people who "try some heady dances to follow the status quo, looking totally foolish in the process," as you so wonderfully put it. it\'s just so pathetic.

as for the article, i haven\'t seen it in print yet. i hope it came out ok. can\'t wait to see the photos, todd!!

Couldn\'t agree more with this quote......I was watching some of those people at the Iron Horse show for a bit too long because it was soo frecian funny, especially this couple next to me (i was at one of the tables on the right)

Well I am glad that I know where all the cool kids are. They are the ones who spend their time at Breakfast shows judging what others are doing instead of listening to the fucking music!

If someone paid to go to a Breakfast show and is out shakin it who cares if they look like they are trying or not. At least their moving around instead of tlaking over the band and they are having a good time.  maybe you guys should worry less about what others are doing to have a good time and more about your very judgmental attitutdes

right on! Nothing puts a smile on my face faster than seeing some kid whos never heard the band just getting down and going nuts - it reminds me of my first show.

(however, I do privetly enjoy watching people try to dance to enchidna\'s arf that have never heard the song before) :P

yea, any song that has sections outside of 4/4. 7/8, 13/8, 9/8. Its all good.


I never understood why so much music is in 4/4. That like if all the music ever written was only in CMajor. Give me some AbM!

There is nothing wrong with making fun of people, especially when they are pretending to fit in and it doesn\'t appear natural.  I would prefer to see people doing things comfortably instead of forcing dances to try and blend in.  

As for all my sociological observations which some of you claim are wrong, if I didn\'t make them then perhaps I would simply be a part of the blend.  I have always been a bit of a social contrarian and will continue to do so.  Making fun of people is a big part of my personality and is often the source of great entertainment for others.  

Since I am bashing the loser hippies that have no groove and an artificial crunch, you are sticking up for them (Kind MS).  You say it is wrong to judge others.  I\'m sure if I were bashing Bush or someone similar, you would be chiming in with your two cents.  

I will continue to bash losers with no sense of themselves.  In fact, maybe I will start a new forum or photo gallery to chronicle the loser hippies that have embarressed themselves at Breakfast shows.  We can rate them on a loser scale of 1-10.  

This is fun.  I feel like Freddy!

I think you\'re partially right Mike, we shouldn\'t be wasting all of our time at shows "judging" others. Sure, we\'re there for the music etc etc.

Except for I can\'t help but feel a bit of disdain for those who try too hard to be anything. That goes for those who try so hard to be ANTI-everything as well. ESPECIALLY those people. So, I don\'t know who I agree more with here. I guess I don\'t go out of my way to make fun of anyone, I don\'t feel comfortable doing that really, but I can\'t help it if from time to time I get a chuckle watching some people on the dance floor. Also, as I\'ve said before, when someone comes up to me and says, "Hey, dreaddy mama...." Oh, god I hate that.

Incidentally, it took me probably 4 shows before I could do anything that even resembled dancing to FFT. I realized that I can only dance to it if I don\'t try to dance to it. Got to let it go, don\'t ya know.

I can say other than when I have my eyes closed or a little hottie is in front of me my eyes are FIXED on the 4 guys creating magic. I really enjoy watching Tim mouth notes to himself, Ron jumping around biggest smile possible raging, Jordan w/ that bemused look on his face as he whales away watching Tim, and trying to see more of Adrian than his flailing arms is a chore in itself. i will admit to being a person nay HIPPIE that dances quite radically due to allowing the music to move me. I try real hard to be aware of my surroundings but sometimes space is limited then it becomes a matter of keeping space and elbows are real handy for that.

Food for though is easy to dance to:
instead of 4 beats to a bar (1-2-3-4-1), there are 13, counted as 7+6 (1-2-3-4-5-6-7-1-2-3-4-5-6-1). This gives and extra 1/2 of a beat every bar, so simply hesitate for 1/2 of a beat and you\'ll be right on.

I already figured that out (not so specifically) and it is that pause that always kills me. Throws me off, don\'t know what to do with myself. So, I stopped breaking it down that way and just started dancing to the damn song.

You can show me how to dance to it properly next time we hear it at a show, ok Paul? :D

Sorry I kind of knee-jerk reacted to the post. I know what u guys / gals are saying when u at a show and people are being amusing for what ever reason and it strikes you as funny etc. I would admit to falling in to that myself sometimes.

Just got the issue today in the mail. Great Pics Todd!!  The article gave a nice overview of the band w/ great descriptions of various songs. Nice quotes and coverage of the current Breakfast activities.def. a keeper!!
