I "should" make it for the first set at least, but then again I "should" have made it to Eli\'s on Monday and the Webster, but as long as I don\'t pass out and get my afternoon nap in it\'s a good bet (although I wouldn\'t put any money on it)

I suppose I\'m a veteran (in the sense that the only two choices are veteran and rookie).  Either way, I\'ll be there and I\'m bringing two rookies with another hopefully showing up later... plus seasoned vet Chris Fitz will be on board.

As am I and everybody who has to stand within 10 feet from me...

Anyway, watch out non-drinkers because Cliffy\'s gonna start charging us to be there sober.  I understand his point ("this isn\'t your living room") but it\'s advertised as a free show, so it\'s not exactly loitering to be there.  It wouldn\'t even have bothered me that he said something except that he did it only five minutes after we showed up, and I did actually plan on buying a some beers.

Cliff Cohen, bold opposer of the designated driver program since May 26th, 2004.

Have no fear, I\'ll still be there next week, cover or not.  It just pisses me off... especially since he included my brother and girlfriend in his comments as if they have been there every week.

*Preshow Cliff goes to Drew and Crew and tells them that next week he will be charging a cover for the "unders".  I understand his reasoning, but thought he could have been more tactful.

That was rediculous. He was looking at me when he said it like i brought you guys in. I have been to Callahan\'s and Wooster Street about 30 times total between both restaurants, and the last 3 tim shows were the only times i went in there without buying anything. What he said was completely uncalled for and i will never purchase anything from his restaurant ever again.

That is a very strong point.  However, he is providing us with a place to see one of our favorite guitarists play all night.  We basically have free reign of the property as long as we remember that Cliffahans is NOT Callahans.

I am not saying that Cliff handeled the situation properly, because it was just poor judgement and choice of words on his part.  But I say we try to put that behind us (or wait to see what happens next week).

If you try to look at it from his side, he is trying to run a business.  Now the fact that he is converting it from a high end steak-house, to a casual bar/cafe with a serious live music vibe, lets give Cliffy the benefit of the doubt, and say that maybe he spent all day on the phone fighting off bill collectors and creditors.
I worked in the restaurant business for 6 years, and it is a very stressful environment whether your business is doing very well or extremely poorly....

Again, please do not misunderstand me,  I was completely embarassed by the display, and I attribute the quiet strangeness of the early first set to the mood that cliffy set with his rant.  But lets try to remember all that he has done for us SerHeads, Wild Pack Of AssCracks (and we are), or Ser People United with Nuggets and Kindness (SPUNKs)........

It wasnt what he said it was more of his tone. He directed it at me because he thought i brought people who were under 21. Its an 18+ show and he basically yelled at 18-19 year olds for not drinking and not voluntarily paying a cover charge that does not exist.

Chris i completely understand where you are coming from.  Believe me, I almost fell out of my chair when I heard him start in.  I didnt realize he was looking at you, I thought it was all directed to Drew......

EITHER WAY....
Completely Uncalled For
BAD BAD FORM

But I choose to give him the benefit of the doubt on this particular incident.  Lets see how it plays out next week and into the future......

Oh yeah, i forgot you were there. Now i remember you saying that you would drink for anyone who was not drinking and he said that was fine. I dont know why it makes a difference though because you would probably be drinking something the whole time anyway.

Ha. Exactly.  I told Cliff in the middle of his tyrade, "what if the under 21\'s got a sponsor for the night that was over 21, and the sponsor is responsible for at least 2 extra drinks for thier underage counterpart?"

I am not giving him anything unless they card at the door and hand wristbands out to people that are over 21 and make everyone else pay. Either enforce it or don\'t. No one should be singled out. There were other people there who were not drinking and he didnt say a word to them.

I think it had a lot to do with the fact that, at this point, the night was looking like a doozie.  Sure, there were only four of us that he was talking to, but that was about 50% of the patrons at the time.

And as for the whole 21+ issue, Cliff thinks that I\'m of age, despite never being carded.  He has served me personally.  And the whole "sponsoring" somebody by buying them two drinks is fairly ridiculous.  In most cases, it\'s just two less drinks that the person is buying for himself.

With all personal vendettas aside, I understand that Cliff is running a business, and I\'ll gladly buy a few beers for some friends (or hand Cliff $10, he can\'t expect more than that as a cover) if it means that Timmy (and potentially The Breakfast) will be playing there in the future.

Cliff is already making a fortune compared to what he would be making if tim was not playing at all. That $10 shouldn\'t go to cliff, it should go in Tim\'s tip cup.

Cliff makes money because tim packs the place everytime he is there, and tim makes money because he has his tip cup. Its a good deal for both of them.

Between Callahan\'s and Wooster Steak & Grille, I\'ve been to Cliff\'s establishments many many times.  I\'ve been to every show Tiim has played there, and spent a ton of $ on drinks each time.
2 weeks ago was the last time I\'ll ever give him my business. Very unfortunate, considering I love seeing Tim\'s acoustic sets.  Cliff came up to my friend and I at the bar (the rest of the seats were taken) & told us that since my friend (the DD for the night) wasn\'t having a "real drink" (his words), then we both had to go stand by the door with everyone else.  When I started to resond, he said that we were costing him $ by sitting there.
I appreciate what the guy has done by giving us someplace to see Tim (& friends), both at Wooster St. & Callahan\'s, but I think that he needs to show some appreciation for the people that come there on a regular basis and spend a good amount of $ to enjoy themselves.  Maybe it\'s time to start looking at other places for Tim to play?

if i\'m not working....you know i\'ll be trying....and everyone should give cliff a pass....he\'s obviously under some pressure and this thing was bugging him...he handled it poorly, but if you condemn everyone in your life that does that, everytime, there won\'t be many left.....we all go south every now and again and you will too (that\'s the figurative you....not you .)..we should all go and order some food (he has a bar menu with burgers and crab cakes etc...) and make everyone involved, including cliff, feel better....or we could just get pissed and let it ruin what has been a really fun time....it\'s up to you (the figurative one!)

gotta agree. I get down to new haven so little lately that theres no way in hell I\'m gonna buy food at cliffs with salleys right across the street. I dont drink. if he wants to charge me a cover, thats fine, but I think he was just frustrated last week and went about it all wrong.

i feel you are both missing my point. i, of all people, do understand how pizza can do that to a person, but how do you think it makes cliff feel to watch some portion of his "audience" (including the performer) walk in from across the street at another restaurant EVERY week when almost noone has eaten food at his place during this whole deal. i ate dinner there one wednesday night and it was excellent but i don\'t know of anyone else who has eaten there from our group. anybody? he\'s also thrown out plates of fries for everyone just cause i asked. it would be a gesture to turn out and have a meal there in the interest of good will and respect. that being all said......i\'m working overtime so i cain\'t come this week.....hope to see you all in asbury park.

paul, i will be returning early on sunday to be home for work so if you were to join us, i WILL be coming home on time for work...think about it :)

Well I have never eaten there so i will defer to you there. As for dietary restrictions connected to time I am not really concerned w/ my weight believe me. I guess I just understand Duane\'s point that if a group of you consistently attend Tim\'s show there and do not spend any $$ it could be irritating to the owner. Throw Cliff a Bone.
I mean he let\'s Tim play every week if he wants yeah? That has got to be worth it . Though I would\'nt know as I have yet to HEAR any of Tim\'s solo acoustic shows. HINT HINT

I\'ve had dinner at Cliff\'s.....AWESOME. Probably pretty pricey for most of the folks that come to Tim\'s solo night, but well worth every cent.

and here\'s a little tidbit for ya...Cliff pays Tim to be there, so if he wants to charge a couple bucks to be there, so be it. But, I do not condone the attitude he put forth the other night!

I brought a buddy of mine to a Tim show there during Christmas break, and he goes out and eats at restaurants all the time, and we both came to the conclusion that the menu did look pretty awesome, but the prices were not too reasonable. . . I coulda sworn it was $26+ for a Filet but I could be mistaken, that\'s the reason I don\'t / can\'t eat there, even though i havent made an appearance in a long long time. . .

I don\'t think that I\'m going to make it tonight.  Nothing to do with the "cover" situation, for some reason it just feels more like a chore in the grand scheme than a night out.

Chris, If you need that money immediately, I\'ll be at the video store from 1:45 - 6:45 tomorrow, and 9:45 - 6:00 on Friday.  If you can\'t make it there, give me a call.

wait, but you definitely have eaten there if i recall...

Matt & I ate a real sit down dinner there one night before Timmy played, I didn\'t have too many (meatless) choices but did order cream spinach and a salad which were excellent, he had some steaky-dead-cow kind of thing which he seemed to thoroughly enjoy... so i would recommend patronizing the establishment.  cliffs a good guy.

that was in the beginning when cliff was real cool and handed us menus when we walked in asked if we wanted anything. and when we didnt he just gave our table some fries and some salads and didnt even bother to charge us. we ordered drinks though and had a large tab to pay so i guess he was just being nice because we were spending money. now the policy p[retty much is buy something or get out (or pay a cover?). If he is going to be a jerk about it i would rather just pay a cover and be done with it. but if he ever yells at us ever again as soon as we walk in before anyone is even given the chance to order i wont be going back to 232.

i feel you are both missing my point. i, of all people, do understand how pizza can do that to a person, but how do you think it makes cliff feel to watch some portion of his "audience" (including the performer) walk in from across the street at another restaurant EVERY week when almost noone has eaten food at his place during this whole deal. i ate dinner there one wednesday night and it was excellent but i don\'t know of anyone else who has eaten there from our group. anybody? he\'s also thrown out plates of fries for everyone just cause i asked. it would be a gesture to turn out and have a meal there in the interest of good will and respect. that being all said......i\'m working overtime so i cain\'t come this week.....hope to see you all in asbury park.

paul, i will be returning early on sunday to be home for work so if you were to join us, i WILL be coming home on time for work...think about it :)

hey fitz.....you gots to read the whole post. the only wednesday\'s i\'ve missed (3or4) are when i was working. the mortgage has to get payed whether timmy plays or not.

right on. you gotta pay the bills. its starting to get confusing now that we are starting to get separate threads for each show, and then a setlist thread. it was better when we had one huge thread for for everything related to tim acoustic.
