I miss CT sooooo much.  Dave, you can ask Pete concerning the shit that\'s called "pizza" up here in VT.  i can\'t believe kids at my school actually enjoy that mass produced schlock.

Same way here in Providence, and to think that Atwells Ave is deemed Little Italy, without one GOOD place that makes a quality pie. . .

I feel for you bud, I truly do. I have to drive 45 mins to either Stowe or Burlington in order to get a "decent" slice.  Even if I were to bring it back to school where I could eat in comfort, drink in coziness and watch my Family Guy DVDs in a euphoric state, there would be no point cause we don\'t have ovens in the dorms.

Even as near as Fairfield I am yet to find any "Za" near the quality of a Wooster Street slice.

the top one is the same price as about 4 pizzas, so its worth it if you thing of it like that. Especially if you are willing to drive 45 mins for those pizzas. I would probably buy the $80 one though.

Sally\'s apizza is more than apizza; it is art.  Sally\'s apizza has the aesthetic awesomeness of a Da Vinci, the palatable pleasure of a Pinot Grigio, and the Italian intrinsicness of a Corlione.  It is beauty manifested as apizza.

Antonio\'s blows donkey nuts.

Antonio\'s is good for toppings but the dough, crust and cheese is subpar.  I love pizza and want Sally for lunch.

Um...yea...that pizza looks delicious eh?

The pizza around here is actually pretty good. We have the ol\' Dominos and Pizza Hut, so I\'m doing all right.

You suppose? Nah, it\'s a wasted trip through New Haven (gateway to all of New England) without stopping by Wooster St. Hell to make things better it\'s more of an easy off easy on from the highway than most fast food joints in CT on 95.

fixed that for you, paul.. come on, you were doing good.. let\'s not bring NY pizza into this...

I never said that NYC could touch NE, but they are both eons above dominoes and pizza hut. I still hold true to wooster st., but theres nothing wrong with stopping down in little italy if your in the city to catch a show. Although the \'by-the-slice\' concept still boggels me.

(for those that don\'t know, the argument over NYC pizza and Wooster St is as heated a topic as Red Sox / Yankees)

There\'s a place on Thayer St in Providence called Antonio\'s that does the by the slice thing and everyone thinks it\'s heaven on earth. I had it a couple times, luckily when my buddy brings me there now that there is a burrito place attached to it, heh. I just can not fully understand the concept of \'gourmet pizza\'. They have pizza\'s with some of the wierdest combinations of topping I have ever heard of. Example: spinach and portebello *********. Might sound appetizing to the vegetarians out there but lemme tell ya it looks like something that came out of my mouth after a handle of whiskey :)

yea, theres a place called "randy\'s wooster st. Pizza" up here in southington. They pull that topping crap all the time also. so far, they have already broken broken the cardnal rule of pizza:

putting \'wooster st.\' in your name.

Only two places on earth have the right to use that name, sallys and peppes (I consider the spot part of peppes), and neither of them us it except if you ask for the mailing address. On top of that, Randy\'s menue states that he used to work for peppes, and after spending years learning the \'secrets\' of making pizza the wooster st. way, he left to start his own company. So this leads to my second grudge:

Randy is a thief and a trator.

Its all right there in the menu. Peppes didnt want to franchise, so Randy took what they were doing and started to mas produce it - badly. This stuff couldn\'t touch peppes if it tried. (makes you wonder if he left peppes voluntarily)... And then on top of it, he started making all the \'specialty\' pizzas. I\'ll give you hawaiian and anchovies as toppings, but some of the other garbage they put on has no place there. They also proudly advertise that they were voted \'one of the top 100 pizza places in the usa\'.  I\'m willing to bet they didnt place very high on the list. In summary, dont eat there.

there\'s alot of those \'wooster st pizza\' joints around connecticut, used to be one in branford (i think it was branford, where they built Brother\'s and the Honda dealership, little help locals?) which Im assuming was WAY to close location wise to the real thing so no one took them seriously.  Im pretty sure they have one on Washington Ave in North Haven too, but I could be wrong.

source: http://www.hottestpizza.com/thestory.htm

The year was 1925, the place was Wooster Street New Haven, and History was about to be made. According to legend, a baker name Frank Pepe put tomato sauce to dough for the first time and the pizza was born! Since then Wooster Street New Haven has made their crust thin, brick oven pizza world famous. The overwhelming mystique and aura that lies on this quarter mile street nestled within the city of New Haven has been know to attract some of the greatest American icons for a sample of what has become History.
Sixty-five years later a new Wooster Street has been constructed. Randy\'s Wooster Street Pizza Shop! Randy, working under the tutelage of the Pepe family learned this highly sought after "secret recipe"! Now, Randy\'s with over 50 years of combined pizza experience is paving the way and bringing this Old World traditional pizza right into your hometown. Keeping within the realms of the New Haven Style pizza standards, Randy utilized his creativity and his culinary expertise to produce a line of over 25 specialty pizzas. These pizzas range from the "mild" to the "wild" with a flare that is sure to satisfy even the most meticulous pizza connoisseur.

i can appreciate \'gourmet\' pizza, as long as they\'re not trying to be pizza.. example - colorado brewing company. they do the gourmet pizza thing, and they\'re delicious. i wouldn\'t call them pizza though. it\'s more of a \'flatbread\'. i dunno.. the bbq chicken is fantastic though.. i\'ll surely be stopping in for one before DBB next friday..

I can accept that Dave, but this place is however attempting to be \'pizza\'. It is more of a pizza than a flatbread too, crispy crust and all (only thing that they have going for them). But the sauce is terrible and all of the slices are premade then reheated like a quizno\'s sub. The cafe at my school which just openened a few weeks ago is trying the same slice thing, which is good for a college because no one is gonna order a full pizza from them at $15 a pop, but they\'re \'gourmet\' selection is pretty unappetizing and also premade.

Another odd thing that I have found about Providence in my year and some here. They don\'t know what a calzone is either! I grew up on calzones with sauce on the side, your topping, mozz, and ricotta. Some places here the sauce is inside the calzone, others its on the side but no place at all puts ricotta in their calzones.

I\'ll agree with that. Christine and myself both love the white pies with Broccoli and Ricotta cheese, but its taste more like a stuffed broccoli bread than a pizza. My main beef with randys is the name. People who dont live in ct and swing through will stop there not knowing anybetter and thinking its the real deal. Its a classic case of playing on the product name, just like when people regester the fat-finger web sites names.

whats a calzone? is that like the thing pizza hut just invented last year, the P-zone? Man, I can\'t believe  pizzas been around for over 500 years, and it wasn\'t untill pizza hut came around that someone thought to fold a pizza over and then bake it.

[/sarcasm]

all this talks getting me hungy for lunch! btw, does anyone know the words to ZA if there are any? I\'m yet to hear it...

Heres a weird one...in Utica before a show, PB asked to order some pie, and the place they got it decided to put the sauce on top of the cheese. Then put the vegestables in the sauce..literally floating ontop. I dont know if they were messin with us or what....it was deffinatley a mess though, and the look on thoes guys face when they popped that box open was classic.

Sounds familiar, but not exactly. Place called Sicilia\'s is supposively \'World Famous\' for their Stuffed pizzas. I wouldnt call it a pizza though, but it is pretty good.  Layers go:

crust
topping(s)
cheese
topping(s)
sauce

Well guys I lucked out big time!! My friend Sarah got a job at this pizza place in Stowe, so she\'ll be bringing home free pizza for me every night.  Best part is, its NYC style, which means my ass is a lucky one... I couldn\'t be any happier than I am right now!!!

BTW, Nothing touches Wooster but I\'ll sell my left nut up here for ANYTHING remotely gratifying and resembling a real, thinned crust pizza!!
