Apparently there was a Mike Bonanno sighting tonight; his first show in many years.  I got a phone call from him, said he ran into Wolfman and this "fine ass bitch named Holly" and got my number from one of them.

For those who don\'t know Bonanno, he has lots of ser lost breakfast recordings that are not publicly available.

I recall hearing:

Rufus, Surreal Radio, Tricky Ways, Psygn
and what I\'m sure some will claim- a 30 minute Buquebus.

Various cartoon theme songs.  GI Joe etc.

Here\'s what I got just based on memory..... not 100% accurate. This will do till it\'s on the archive. Dave, thanks for your efforts as always.... completely ridiculous doesn\'t even cover it!!

I: Merry Melodies > Rufus > Beavis and Butthead > What the Funk, Duck Tales, Metropolis, Mighty Mouse, Score, ?, Pink Panther (Tim on sax), Surreal Radio, Tricky Ways, GI Joe, Buquebus > Transformers > Buquebus, Ren and Stimpy

E: Chimpmunks, Psygn

Show was one of the wackiest I\'ve ever seen! Todd sounded great for the first gig. He really nailed WTF, Metro, Score, and Tricky Ways in particular. "Bear with me," he said at one point, then something like "Their material has blown my mind in the past 48 hours, I can\'t even imagine what they\'ve done to you in 10 years!"

The cartoon stuff was very well done too. I like the quirky, wacky aspect of this band and cartoon theme songs is certainly a good way to display it! Oh and Queeb was out of control, not shocking right? Nice job guys.

Oh and if it says doors at 9:30 on the ticket, open the doors at 9:30!! That is all. :)

here\'s what i posted over on taperssection.com, along with the quotes leading up to my rant. ugh.

Quote from: Chomps

Quote from: Jesse Hurlburt

I was denied at the door last night.  Owner told me no bags, I tried to explain I tape at the Iron Horse all the time, but he wasn\'t having it.  Most likely because all the tables were cleared out, and when I left it looked like it was going to be a sell out.  I tried explaining I didn\'t want to leave my bag in the car and asked if I could bring it in but not tape, and they weren\'t having that either.  Oh well, catch em next time..

Jesse

What an asshole. I have had serveral hard times with the owner of  the Iron Horse and none have ended like yours Jesse. Did you not ask to speak to someone with the band?

keith

it wouldn\'t have mattered, keith. after last night, i will NEVER visit the iron horse or any IHEG venue again. been seeing shows there and getting treated like shit for 8 years, and last night was the last straw. they\'ll never see another dime from me.

i got there shortly after 9 to go in with the band and set up. they hadn\'t moved all the tables and chairs out yet, so i laid low and out of the way for a bit, and just helped the band load gear on stage. while this was happening, the owner (eric?) told the band that the venue no longer allows taping. the band pleaded with him, because they wanted it recorded as it was todd stoops\' first show, the band\'s 10th anniversary show, and their annual halloween show.

eric then ok\'d ONE taper (me), BUT, no clamping to anything, no taping to anything, nothing on the ground. they left the table in front of the soundboard and i was told i could set up there, on the table. my mic stand\'s legs were too wide to fit on top of the table, so i ran out and got a stand with a solid base from one of the other guys that was going to be taping. brought that in, put it on the table, and set my mics up, gear in bag.

i went and got my costume ready (~10 minutes) and came back up. eric comes over, looks at the stand, then goes and talks to the sound guy (who clearly hates his life and has always been an enormous prick to me) about something. eric comes back to me, asks if it\'s mine (umm, yeah, you just told me to set up there), and tells me to take it down because someone could bump into it and it can fall on someone\'s head and hurt them (happens ALL the time when taping, right guys?). i tried to plead my case and he was just being a complete asshole and wouldn\'t even let me get a word in edgewise. he told me my bag had to stay on the table and, get this, the mics had to stay in the bag.

i obviously wasn\'t having that, nor was i letting this show go unrecorded. so even though i knew i would have a miserable night, i sucked it up and stood there, next to the table, holding my vert bar up in my hands all night, arm in the air. that\'s what needed to be done for the band to have their 10th anniversary show recorded.

i had 5 people come up to me and offer to buy me a beer last night, and i said no to all of them because i didn\'t want this place to see a fucking dime because of me. enough is enough with this place. what a fucking joke.

awesome awesome show last night.. everyone looked great in their costumes! someone has got to get a picture of peaches in his costume up here hehehe..

loved the merry melodies opener into rufus. the beavis and butthead theme was great. i remember getting the movie soundtrack to it like 10+ years ago and listening to the theme song all the time because it was just that cool... i loved all of the cartoon songs. especially ren and stimpy!!!! :orngban:i totally thought that this was going to be super corny, but loved every second of it. the only thing i really could have done without was surreal radio.

lol at "fine ass bitch". i was talking to him in line for the bathrooms and he mentioned that he was at butterfield so i asked if he knew al z and he said that he did. said he hadn\'t talked to you/lost your number and all this other crap but had the nicest things to say about you :) so i gave him your number.

dave--i really can\'t agree with you more on the glowsticks. that sucks about the taping policy. i was wondering why i hadn\'t seen you all night and then finally did at the very end of the show.

The band has to beg to have it taped.... man, that just boggles my mind. You said it, glowsticks = cool, taping = no can do. WOW, just WOW.

Like to hear Tim on Sax for Pink Panther.

Buquebus>Transformers>Buquebus is about the only songs I really car to hear from the show.

Buquebus>wet fart>Buquebus I would listen to.

I assume that the show was spectacular and it was cool to hear.

From the outside looking in, this set list couldn\'t appear any gayer but it is a theme and what not.

Glad you all had a good time.

I\'ll see when I see you.

The Iron Horse seems to have declined over the last few years especially with this no taping b.s.

Buquebus was amazing, as was Score!  Stoops\' style fits in perfectly with these guys during those long, silly jams.  Solos were awesome too!  I talked to him after the show, and he couldn\'t believe the band played two sets with only about 7 Breakfast songs.  ( I hope he\'s hooked & decides to make this a permanent residency!)

Dave, - I feel your pain.  I didn\'t know you were holding the mics in your hands all night - what a fucking let down for a venue who had the bottom AND top floor opened to fit their paying customers!

I also saw that video cameras weren\'t let in at all.  It would have been a great show to watch, since the band was definitely bringing heat in every song played last night.  Poor Ken had absolutely NO viewfinder or ladder to stand behind, and was actually caught drinking/dancing/talking to others throughout the night! ;)

Anyways, this show makes me wet for Brahlington - hope to see everyone there for more silliness.  Oh, and Tuna - PLEASE  bring my purse to VT - it\'s got stuff for my dia-beetis that is much needed! :) tia

that reminds me, just wanna say thanks to whoever turned in my wallet to the bar. i don\'t know if it was someone from .info.

i didn\'t even realize that it was missing until the end of the show when the bartender was shouting for me.

whoever was heady enough to return a coach wallet with $100+ in cash to the bar saved my ass... if anyone knows who was kind enough to do that, please let me know! would have been awful to lose the wallet, money, IDs, cards, etc...

Dave - complete, total BS!  What a fucked up venue!
Your effort last night was huge - and is appreciated big time by all the costumed freaks.  Those beers will still be coming your way (just not puchased from that dive!)  It\'s too bad, because except for the fact that they made people stand outside till almost 10, and that, for a couple hundred people, they have ONE fuckin\' bathroom (guys and girls combined), and that their taping policy and management completely sucks, it\'s a pretty cool place to catch bands like The Breakfast.  SUCH BULLSHIT!  Thanks again, Dave.
On a positive note - what a show!!!!!  Tim(Inspector Gadget) doing the Pink Panther sax, Superman Stoops is amazing and totally fits right in (2+ hours of smiling and laughing - I think he\'s hooked!!), Chef DeAngelis is a complete monster, Adrian - beyond reality!!!!!  A special night of jams and cartoons!  Thanks.

Whaley took about 200 pictures!!!!

BTW - It was "Pinky & The Brain" after "Score", and before "Pink Panther"

Heyy have you talked to Ashley? I can\'t make it up to Burlington my buddy\'s got a local show tonight and love must be shown. I thought you did talk to her though.. anyway can you make it until the drive back down?? I can also overnight it anywhere. I\'m stuck at work today but I think you have Ash\'s # she\'s around today hopefully we can figure something out that doesn\'t leave you in a tough spot medically.

..

It was awesome chillin with all y\'all who made it pre/post show, I now know like twice as many of you guys names ... I\'m tired as hell today (passes out on keyboard) .. uh what oh yeah
..

Dave I feel your disdain for IHEG. The upside, lots of good bands come to town. The downside, they are dicks about everything. Crew from Strangers Helping Strangers was with us pre/post show and apparently Iron Horse wouldn\'t even let them set up or go inside until they managed to sneak in for a few minutes at the end. Are you serious. What venue makes Strangers Helping Strangers do a food drive outside in the freezing cold right outside the door? Dicks being dicks.

....

Speaking of dicks, here is my dick review of the show. "Good by most bands\' standards, weak sauce by Breakfast standards". It was nice to see the balcony open and one of the biggest crowds I\'ve seen for them at Iron Horse.

I don\'t know if I should even say this, like I don\'t want to jinx the band or offend people. But we are all grown ups here. I\'d rather have seen a trio show. Yeah I understand Stoops just half-learned the songs like 5 minutes ago. But whatever. The fact is the difference between the last show I saw (Sully\'s -- totally epic) and last night was stark. Obviously Todd Stoops can play fast keyboards and did some cool things. But to be honest I found his playing rather tasteless and just not my dig at all. That was among my least favorite PB/Breakfast shows of all time.

Tricky Ways ser bustout was the icing on the cake.

I did not expect to see Matt O. in the audience. I also did not expect to find myself practically begging him to come back after the show. Yet, these things did occur.

If Stoops is sticking around I think I gotta hear some real ser live recordings in the future. I\'m a little pissy about this and would like to know the damn deal -- and based on last night hopefully its not perma-Stoops.

the show was great last night (from what i remember)...my first time seeing score in 18 shows, really glad to hear that.  Stoops ripped it up on TWs, queeb was a monster...i remember psygn being epic too, great way to end the show.

great to see everyone, #1 costume by far was peaches OMS sorry chip i ruined FF10, amazing.

Dave, wow now i know why i didnt see you once the entire show.  what a fuckin joke.  the bartenders were tools also, and the sound guy told me to not yell in his ear when i was cheering at the end of the show.

lets close the book on this place, there have been many great shows here, but its gone downhill it seems like.  heck, they werent even allowed to do lights?? give me a break...

what other venues are there in noho, pearl st or soemthing?

Still trying to decide about burlington after how much money i dropped last night.

i thought stoops was awesome, BTW

What you saw last night was just a tease.  I agree there were some awkward moments (they stumbled through the beginning of Rufus), but I think there were also flashes of brilliance (the end of Rufus). Matt and Chris each had more rehearsal time before their debut.  This was a glorified sit in.  Todd also defered to Tim much of the night.

I think it\'s going to be straight heat when they get comfortable together.

The smile on Todd Stoops\' face--which was noticeable throughout the entire performance--was perhaps only topped by one person in the building. That would be the gentleman on guitar.

I obviously was not there but I do know this much..
Todd has known Tim and Adrian for like 16+ years and Dangles since his days in TBM. Combine his key prowess and stage charisma with the already insaneness that is "the trio" add in the fact that they have a long musical history together and the end result will be GLORIOUS!

The smile on Todd Stoops\' face--which was noticeable throughout the entire performance--was perhaps only topped by one person in the building. That would be the gentleman on guitar.

Highlight: Metropolis

Butterwho? :stoned:  Good old days indeed!  One of the best Breakfast venues of all time.

i thought it was ass enough that they take a cut from merch sales

I have always had some of the same complaints about the Iron Horse, but is the merch claim ser?  How can they even enforce or expect struggling bands to pay up to the Northampton music monopoly?

It is a poorly run business from a customer\'s perspective;  Leaving people out in the cold in the dead of winter for an hour when they could be inside buying drinks was always a big issue.

Beer prices back in 2000/2001 were more expensive than beer prices of venues I go to in San Francisco (one of the most expensive cities to run a business in) in 2008.  How much is a premium beer now, $8?

And now the taping thing?  Assholes.   Even worse than the time Wayne had to pay $50 to The Temple Bar in order to record.

Quote from: Mamalakabubadaya;209451
lol at "fine ass bitch". i was talking to him in line for the bathrooms and he mentioned that he was at butterfield so i asked if he knew al z and he said that he did. said he hadn\'t talked to you/lost your number and all this other crap but had the nicest things to say about you :) so i gave him your number.

Should I give him your number (if he didn\'t get it last night)?  He was the guy that I traveled across state lines with all the time to see Bfast shows from 2000-2002.  Didn\'t even know if he was still alive or would ever surface again after all the crazy stuff he did back then.  Glad to hear he was at the show; he was just as hardcore as most of us (or more) but somehow drifted away.  Likely because there was no .info back then to keep the scene together.

Quote from: stublatt;209461
for a couple hundred people, they have ONE fuckin\' bathroom (guys and girls combined), and that their taping policy and management completely sucks, it\'s a pretty cool place to catch bands like The Breakfast.  SUCH BULLSHIT!

Forgot to mention the obnoxious bathroom situation.

So was the show close to a sellout?

I thought it was gonna be good and it was.  immediately impressed.  stoops was havin\' a blast.  must be a fuckin\' whirlwind to have to just jump in and play at a venue, despite how much it sucks, that the breakfast has a way of playing incredibly at, and trying not to stumble around up there.

...aaannd for that i can only offer the most harsh judgement.  his playing was awful.  i actually kept dry heaving and eventually threw up due to how tasteless it was.  just too fast and un-focused.  what a dick for only learning rufus, wtf, metropolis, score, surreal radio, tricky ways, queeb, and psygn, god, who does this guy even think he is.  superman my ass.

obviously i\'m not serious.

yeah, i\'m looking forward to taking it all in for as long as he\'s able to play with them.  talented guy with a ton of enthusiasm.  who knows what\'ll happen, maybe something great.  don\'t know.

very good show overall.  metropolis and buquebus were really filthy.  and what a fuckin\' ending to psygn.

...on to burlington

gabo...what can i say? bad things happen in threes and i think you just made the quota...keep your head up and out of trouble! i will be sending you some positive vibes!

DP...was wondering were you had been, saw you rushing around and looking LIVID...i agree the place was kinda bunk...they wouldnt even let us in 4 minutes early and were such jerks at the door! better luck next time....nice work on getting the job done...i\'m sure the boys appreciated all your efforts!

fuck the iron horse and every other IHEG venue. never again.

Seriously, if I had a dollar for every time I said that during college...

Let\'s get down to Fan MVPs last night.  First Dave Pec[/B] for taping while holding mics up, that was epic effort right there.  We\'ve had to support a lot of shitty venues over the years in order to support The Breakfast and we deal with it, but I support you 100% if you want to be dunzo with IHEG. IHEG has employed nothing but assholes for a SOLID DECADE.  I have so many bad stories from each of their venues.  Remember how I used to bring flyers with directions to my house back in the ser afterparty days?  They made me throw them out, "no flyers".  "Here, read it, it\'s directions to my house for my friends."  "Throw them out or get the fuck out."  So I threw them out and went back and pulled them out of the trash an hour later when nobody was looking.  So stupid.  Or how about all the times they have turned the lights on DURING THE ENCORE?  Gee, you really can\'t wait 1 minute for the band to finish?  Second-worst venue taping policy EVER!  Worst, of course, would still be Tobacco Road completely banning taping and then recording the show themselves and making The Breakfast pay $50 if they wanted the tape.

Second MVP goes to bdfreetuna Josh (and roommate Ashley) for ser pre AND post party.  That takes a lot of effort.  I\'m glad you liked the wings.  Headiest living room I\'ve seen in a long time.  I hope you have us next time.

As for the band, I think bdfreetuna makes a lot of good points.  The show was very very good when compared to all shows by all bands.  The Iron Horse only rages that hard maybe once a month no matter who plays there.  But by Breakfast standards it was middle of the road.  The cartoon themes are fun and they make me smile.  I\'m certainly not one of the people who was whining when they announced the theme: "waaaaahhhh, I\'m not going to the shows, they\'re going to play cartoon themes. waaahhhhh "  Heck, I LOVE the Transformers and GI Joe themes!  But how much they really add to the show is open to debate.  I think they might be better off playing Breakfast tunes and teasing a whole bunch of cartoon themes throughout the night rather than stopping the show to actually play the themes completely.

As for stoops, he didn\'t take anything away so overall I\'d say his impact was positive. As I said when Matt joined the band, I would caution everyone against making any serious conclusions until he has played 25 shows with the band.  Stoops can obviously play great keys, and after a good 4 months/25 shows I am pretty sure he can play great keys with the Breakfast.  It\'s not gonna happen that fast.

OK, I\'m done, see you tonight!

I agree with every single one of Seth\'s points. Don\'t have much left to say, other than it was wonderful to see everyone.

Oh, here\'s someting that bugged me: throughout the course of the night I spoke to several Raq fans who all pretty much had the same things to say:

* They were annoyed/bummed that The Breakfast weren\'t playing any Raq songs (What the hell, it\'s a Breakfast show. Also, come on, these guys have had barely any time to practice together.)
* The show was not a good example of Stoops\' ability (not sure what to say about this)
* Tim is almost as good as Raq\'s guitar player ()
* There is no way Stoops will stay with the band (not sure what to say about this either)

Thought that was worth mentioning.

^^^^^^^too hot to touch.  But I\'ll lightly touch it anyway : )

I can see your point Freddie.  What it really boils down to is just the way they go about it.  Bottom line is that they are such unbelievable d-bags about the most trivial things, it\'s unnecessary, and they have been this way for at least 10 years.  None of us can possibly be neutral in this, we\'re way too close to it.  If someone wasn\'t there and didn\'t care about either party then I could see them arguing IHEG\'s side.  (And they would have to simultaneously appreciate Pec\'s dedication.)  But if you had seen the behavior of the two parties involved there would be no way you could take IHEG\'s side, you just couldn\'t.

Au contraire, there was one (http://www.thebreakfast.info/modules.php?name=Reviews&file=viewarticle&op=newarticle&id=154)!  It was such a doozie that nobody was there but me! Granted they were opening for Dr. Didg and were not headlining, but still.  The dance floor consisted of 4 people sitting in chairs: 3 people who must have been Dr. Didg\'s gf, sister, and mom... and me.  The entire crowd was about 30, but the 4 of us were the only ones even listening.  The most ironic thing is that the next time they played there, 9/14/01, the line to get in was longer than the whole Iron horse\'s capacity and many never got in, a true sellout.

sorry there\'s no setlist. maybe someone kept one and will post it. i couldn\'t do live updates (or even keep a setlist) because i had to stand still with mics in my hand all night.

fuck the iron horse and every other IHEG venue. never again.

not for nothing but i cant believe all the bitchin in this thread.
for the love of god, dave,as an adult, could have decided that he didnt want to stand and hold the goddamn mics and that would have been that.nobody put a gun to his fucking head to do anything.
places have policies.
sometimes said policies change for whatever reason.
take it or leave it.
bitchin and moanin about it dosent help.dave wants to be the archivist of the band so every once in awhile dudes gonna have to do something that he dosent wanna do.
jesus..

where are the furits of your mic holding labors????

I didn\'t see an answer posted anywhere, so I\'m going to be the youngster who asks what dsnumbers\' costume was? I recognize the character, but can\'t place it.

Neither could my brother who is 26, thus his ignorance on the matter is inexcusable.

i belive he was the character from robert commiers book "i am the cheese"       which doesnt actually involve cheese at all its about a kid who rides a bike to find his father and he keeps singing "the farmer in the dell"

ulee has it right...i was the cheese from the wacky delly episode of rocko\'s modern life.  For RML buffs, this particular episode is one of the all time best and one of only 3 half-hour episodes (the rest were split into 2 15-minute segments).  It is one of those characters that just stuck with you if youve sen the episode, so many people who know the show will immediately be able to pick it up.

Based on earlier post by Dave, he taped the show.  I\'m sure that it\'s not up yet because he\'s not done manipulating the audio.  If not, there\'s not much that can be done about it.

Since you were 12? How did that come about?

I think at 12 the only musician I had ever seen live was Chubby Checker.
