Slammin show. Hot trenches. Monster setlist. If you gave every setlist a rating based on that year\'s Tournament of Tunes seedings, you couldn\'t create a more highly rated setlist than this. And believe it or not, looking at all those huge tunes, would you believe that the song of the night was The Late and Great? Best version I\'ve ever seen for sure. I didn\'t think that song could bring out the energy that it did. The ceiling just got raised for TLAG by several floors. Everything else was butter too. Especially second set, boy, they didn\'t waste any time when they came back. Not 3 minutes into Hard Luck Harry they were commanding full control of the entire place. Now you\'re playing with power. Breakfast power.
The low ceiling theory continues to hold true. They always just kill these rooms with low ceilings.
When three not-hot lesbians make out together, it\'s like the Kansas City Royals hitting back to back to back home runs; At the end of the day you\'re still not that great, but for that one shining moment there you were pretty cool.
When Link was enabled with the downthrust move in Zelda II, it was the coolest move you could do in a video game. Then came the Tanooki Suit. Then came fatalities.

Dave, was Coma inverted? I guess this has always confused me. This one was similar to the Mezzanotte 9/22 version that opened the show I believe, but different from the 8/5/06 version for example, where Adrian started the familiar drum beat, then Tim went into the chords, not that soloing...
Also, Rufus was technically 2nd "section" through the end > beginning, does an inversion have to be middle through the end, then beginning played through where the middle starts (like See The Light inversions)? I have no idea how this wacky stuff works and would love an explanation!
Other than that.....show was INSANE and I don\'t even have words to explain how tight they were tonight. I love that room. HLH > Glimpse was a redonkulous segue, as was TLAG > Rufus > OE. I loved the way they broke up Taboo too. Sick stuff, can\'t wait to hear it again.

incredible show. i definitely have a love/hate relationship with sully\'s, but there\'s certainly no better feeling than seeing the breakfast in a packed room, and knowing that you know about 90% of the people there. bfam was most definitely in full effect!
i had a feeling things were gonna get crazy last night during the soundcheck, which started with an \'Ants Marching\' jam, and then headed towards an acid-jazz version of Radiohead\'s \'Creep\'. adrian was playing silly good during the soundcheck, and afterwards said to me, "i\'m gonna have a good night tonight". exactly what i was thinking.
great setlist and execution. i was a little upset in taboo\'s first go-round, as tim was really holding back in the heavy section (the BEST part, imo). i was stoked that they left it and came back. i do love to hate GBFBITS, but another excellent version was played last night. tunage was insane - those are all the teases i recognized at the show, but i have to listen back to see if there were more. wouldn\'t surprise me if there were.
second set was damn near perfect. i *really* wanted OE right after TLATG, but what they did with rufus was great. wild pack?? pfffft! glad it\'s back, it was nuts.
and in the "WHY??" moment of the night - buquebus encore. awesome. great version. you can\'t ask for anything more, you shouldn\'t ask for anything more, and you shouldn\'t get anything more. a perfect end to a perfect night, right? *sigh* i\'m sorry, but everything about Johnny B. Goode made me cringe. it was almost like the show was too good, and something shitty just HAD to happen... oh well.

bill - the inverted coma thing is a weird subject, as it is a song that has had a few makeovers through the years. the slow part with the chords was a later addition to the song. i suppose if you wanted to, you could take the "zone 1" version of the song and say that it\'s the official "published" version, and note your differences based on that one, but like i said, with the changes it\'s gone through, i just chalked it up to being one of the different versions.
as for the rufus inversion, i don\'t know what else to call it. rufus, i guess has 3 sections total, right? but regardless, like you said, it started "mid-song" (read: not at the beginning), went to the end, and back to the beginning, so.....:shrug:

the > after hardluck was phenomenal, OE destroyed that place. great energy, so good ellis had to bust out on the house lights. taboo definitely left me hanging at the ser throwdown part, but after a perfect segue into coma i was satisfied. wow. listen to second set, for the love of god, listen to second set

lots of fun last night. i had a great time seeing all of you fine people..
as tiny as sully\'s is, i really do love the packed in breakfast shows there. there is something special about the place for me since one of my first and most memorable shows involved jumping over the fence to get inside because i wasn\'t 21 (turkey tour \'04).
first set was alright. may fly was definitely the highlight early on in the evening. second set was killer. inverted rufus was unexpected between tlatg and oe, but it worked. things definitely got pretty crazy during wild pack. i enjoy a good breakfast show mosh pit every once in a while.
this wasn\'t the best show that i have seen, but it was a fun one and i am definitely feeling it today.
so glad to see so many people out last night..any word on the crowd size?

I really thought Tim was showin\' off mad new moves on the guitar last night... and Adrian... shit, it was like the grand finale of a fourth of july fireworks . Can\'t forget Ron and Matt everybody really stepped it up , that was totally sick.
Best part of the night... after the 2nd set, Ash is beat, I can see her second wind just dropped off and she\'s giving me this look... "Don\'t they ever stop??" ..
So of course they are gonna come out for an encore, so I tell her, one more song baby hang in there!
And they come out and I hear the opening chord to Buquebus. HA! "Sorrrrrrry! We\'re gonna be here for a while! ahahaha!"
Johnny Be Goode wasn\'t really nescessary.. but after a show like that, why the hell not :shrug:

opening jam (dubbed the "collar up" jam!) started things off right, getting the crowd into the groove. sorry to disagree w/ you mama, but i actually wasn\'t feeling the may fly as much as i usually do. nevertheless, i thought the show jumped to another level with taboo, a great song to really get down to. i agree with other posters that the first go-around of taboo was too light in the heavy section, but all the segues that followed were absolutely amazing. i was too distracted during GBFBITS by the lesbians who were trying to pull me into their little love fest (thanks for saving me, wolfy), which pissed me off b/c i love the GBFBITS jam. coming back into taboo made me so damn happy. and tunage may be my most-improved song. good stuff. how did i miss the charlie tease? i love that damn song.
second set really was completely off the hook. i warned my buddy that i tend to get a little out of control during second sets, and last night was a case in point. i started off head banging like a lunatic in front of the stage to a hot HLH>IG. although i really was looking forward to OE when they started TLATG, i was happy to hear an awesome Rufus variation in between. it was a surprising and enjoyable twist. OE, by the way, let\'s just say PM... well put wolfy about the energy of TLATG. The mosh pit during OE was so fun, although you guys really are kinda wimpy... ;) I thought Wild Pack was a perfect fit for the night. the Wild Pack surely was in full affect last night and it was incredible to be a part of it.
my heartfelt thanks go out to the princess for finding my eye glasses, which fell off at some point in the pit and i didn\'t realize i had lost them until the song was over. bfam\'s always looking out for each other!
and dave, i disagree w/ your johnny b. critique. it left me dancing like i haven\'t danced in ages (looking like a fool, i\'m sure) and capped off the night on a really fun and upbeat note. i should add, however, that i\'m speaking purely from an energy point of view here. i was having so much fun dancing like a lunatic that i really wasn\'t being picky about the quality of the music. i was just feeling the energy... and loving it!
all in all, obviously, it was an amazing night. bfam is no doubt the best around. let\'s keep the energy high!!!! love you all.

charlie was the only one i got afterwards. everything else i got at the show and i was trying to sort it all out in my head and get it into my phone, while at the same time wolfman was asking me how i keep track of them all, talking to me about link\'s downward thrust, tanooki suits, fatalities, royal lesbians, and popped collars. oh, and there was plenty of alcohol involved as well. :)

Definitely a 4.8 out of 5 level show. The opening jam had me thinking of or maybe just really wanting a CMSS, but I knew that I was wrong. Then came the second jam, once again same thing. I think I just really wanna see the damn song. There was some pretty powerful playing during Taboot and the Coma though, which made it ok. Coma is definitely one of my top 5 favorites, they can play it fast, start or end slow and "epic," it doesn\'t make a difference to me. I wish I was wrong when I heard the little noodly tuning sounding notes and thought, "oh no GBFB," but that song always seems to tear it toward the end when it\'s about to turn into something else, so really crazy, creative, nasty shit seems to occur, so I guess it\'s really not all that bad.
I totally forgot the never finished Taboot when they started to go back into it, which by the way was completely seemless. Tunage was really good didn\'t really wanna see it, still not the best I\'ve seen but it doesn\'t matter, once it gets going it shut up my internal whining. Great teases too.
I heard some dude say, "I just heard they were opening with Hard Luck," and thought that I really didn\'t wanna hear that at the moment either, wonder what my problem is, anyway it hit really hard and was defininitly loose and jammy allowing for some great teases as well. Though I\'m not a fan, I have to say that they was Inner Glimpse came out of HL was nothing short of amazing, ya could kinda hear it coming but by the time it registered it was already happening. Kinda left me with no choice but to give it a chance and it did it for me for once.
The Late and the Great always makes me happy, thought this one didn\'t get all techno like at the Iron Horse, it was soooo strong right up until....Rufus?!?!....huh?....what? Inverted? Ooook. Though Rufus was absolutely filthy, it still some what annoyed my stubborn ass when it broke up the two songs. That\'s my own problem. It was really great and played perfectly right back to the begining and back into Over Exposure.
Over Exposure is always incredible and definitly one of my favorites. The places it goes and the levels it reaches are absolutley beautiful. If they don\'t play it at and take advantage of the what I\'ve been told wonderful sounding, somewhat sizable (200 seats) Fairfield Theatre, then they are silly, but I guess that would be another thread...
Wrapping things up nicely with Wild Pack was a great choice considering the room was literally packed, what a challenge it was to get up the god damn stairs, don\'t know what the hell was going on with the moshing crap, but it sure pissed off the little fella who couldn\'t decide if he was hot or cold so he\'d keep putting on and taking off his pull-over with his cigarette in his mouth. It was funny. He pushed Chris Fitz so hard and bounced right off him, like a mosquito trying to bit a rhino or something, Jen laughed, it was silly.
Spacey asked for them to play something good, then something long, then something long and good. Well, I think he got what he asked for. I didn\'t even think it was a possibility. Christ it was good, I had no choice but to as that little fuckin dope kept yelling, "shake what my mama gave me." Gawd, I hope ya can\'t hear it in the recording. What a fantastic Buquebus. Really. Feels good to just let it all out every now and then.
Now for the not at all needed second encore song...what the fuck? Ron came right over to Dave and said, "...he just launched right into it...he didn\'t even know the words!" Yikes. "Go Timmy, go, go, go!" What? If they never play that one again I wont be sad. Dave summed it up well by saying, "Well that\'s cover number 473 that I can do with out."
Can\'t win \'em all I guess. Whateva. I guess uh, everything that preceeded it made it ok or something.
I was a little tired and somewhat, but not really, concerned about being tired after the show earlier but after what we saw and how hard they played, it was not needed.
Good times. Still don\'t understand the need for the Link reference, and Dave my friend, you have problems I must say, but luckily it\'s funny or else you\'d just me that weird guy. I\'m just kidding.

This was a great night it was really good to see everybody. I had a shit load of fun all night. The first set segues were all very cool. HLH was great surprised no one has mentioned it yet. One of the serest Wild Pack mosh pits I\'ve been in. They seem to get a little more intense every time since the original at The Middle East (4/22/05), I seriously got my ass kicked and was nearly forced into Timmy\'s equipment. All in all a great night with great music and great people.

No kidding... Considering the number of drinks I had it is absolutely amazing that I was able to stop myself (several times) from crashing into anything important. The last time I have come that close to landing on equipment was that Fongouglish Freakout that I went to before I went to NC. I think that was a FF. Either way, the slippery floor that night nearly caused several disasters involving me and equipment.

i know i spoke to a few people last night about this, but please let\'s try to keep the energy going into the nyc gig. seriously, if ever there was a time the breakfast needs to make it in new york, it\'s now. actually, i think it\'s now or never. i heard the last knit show was poorly attended and if the den isn\'t grooving, then it will just be tougher and tougher for the band to book decent gigs in the city. i have all the faith in the world that the band can thrive in the big apple, despite being such an increadibly difficult market. if we bring the energy of sully\'s to the den, then we\'ll be off to a great start.

Yup, Fonghoulish Freakout 3. I was just thinking about that show and the China Cat and the David Bowie "trick" where they played the first minute of David Bowie then stopped. Ouch. I guess that came full circle at FF9! It was not the debut of TLAG though, the first play was a week earlier on 10/26/01, FF3 was 11/2/01. However, TLAG was shelved for several years after this. That song definitely came full circle at Sully\'s. Who would have thought that the two big unresolved songs from FF3 would come around now, 6 years later? The ghosts of FF3 have been with us the last couple of weeks!

I forgot about the bowie tease! The big things that stick out to me were jordan and nikkis glam 80s rock star oufits, wolf as the earth, joc as dank hugs, it being hot as hell by set two and finding out from from tim on stage that jocelyn was leaving for north carolina. :(
Of course, at that time I still though she lived in rhode island beause she was always at the living room shows.

I really like the buildup to Inner Glimpse. I wish they would do stuff like this more often. It\'s pretty killer hearing the first notes and as they keep building it, you can feel the energy rising until it explodes into the song proper. Kick ass stuff right there.

i do have to mention the fantastic pre-show/setbreak music. once whatever cd that had the horrible Ice Ice Baby cover was shut off, i believe it was Sirius24 the rest of the way. Monkey Wrench, Oceans, Vasoline, Insane In The Membrane, Funk Soul Brother, and My Wave are among the songs i remember hearing. :thumbsup:

i do have to mention the fantastic pre-show/setbreak music. once whatever cd that had the horrible Ice Ice Baby cover was shut off, i believe it was Sirius24 the rest of the way. So ya this show was ehniiiiiice... I thought it was funky at first splittin up Taboo, but Coma was really tight and going back into taboo was a lot of fun. Jam into Hardluck was a ton of fun, thats the type of shit I go to breakfast shows for. Inner Glimpse- awesome. And holy segwich!! I thought it was a great idea, and really played out well. The beginning section of rufus was played with a lot more energy i felt, coming out of a silly jam, and then to have OE ragingness after a killer Rufus was awesome!
And i dig johnny b good so I had a blast! Great to have packed breakfast shows!
