Adrian is part of a Jazz/Funk explorative quintet, newly dubbed "The Blah Blah Collectivethat will be playing monday nights in Ansonia, CT. In the Beautiful All-American Valley.
Location:
Osiris Cafe
364 Main St
Ansonia, CT
The lineup:
Adrian Tramantano - Drums
George Lesiw - Guitar
Mike Nuno - Bass
Matt Oestreicher - Keys
Adrian described it to me as Jazz/Funk Exploration with some ser stank on it......
Basically its an intense jam session where everyones chops are on display for your delight.
This will be happening every monday until further notice. Showtime 9ish.
Hope to see some of you there.....
-
sounds like fun
i dropped my phone in a toilet 4 days ago
sorry chip
both me and you
-
That does suck. No one else has animals cell phone?
oh well, hope everything works out for him tonight.
-
Saw this on craigslist...
Anyone check it out yet?
I wonder what Adrians style is in a jazz setting...
crazy fills still??
-
Not sure if anyone checked this out last week, doubt it. I did hear Animal talking about it this weekend but I wasn\'t really paying any attention to his words.
-
I will be there Monday April 30th to check this out....
DEF!
-
BBC for life!
-
BUMP!
I was planning on being there this week, but due to personal commitments and whathaveyou\'s i have to pass till next week.....
However, just wanted to remind all of you out in .infoland that our boy the animal is playing in a jazz/funk quartert in Ansonia. Animal says its quite ser and doesnt really bullshit when it comes to his music....
-
You, sir, are a liar!
-
I will be there Monday April 30th to check this out....
DEF!
when i posted this, that was my plan for tonight. However things changed and something came up that i cannot nor want not to put off.
However, people should go check this out......if you can handle experimental jazz/funk.....if not, I am sure Tim will be playing Wonderwall, Hey Hey What Can I Do, and GreenDay and Pearl Jam till the cows come home tonight at BAR.
-
" not, I am sure Tim will be playing Wonderwall, Hey Hey What Can I Do, and GreenDay and Pearl Jam till the cows come home tonight at BAR."
oh man he\'s going to bust out Wonderwall!?!?!
SER
-
I\'m working till 9 and the last place I go after dark is the valley.
-
Well if there was ever a Breakfast side project to see, this seems like it might be it. Why haven\'t you people who are nearby been going?
weak sauce.
Seriously, go.

This is a smart woman right here folks.
-
Hardly.
A jealous woman would be more accurate...
-
They have horse padducks and whathaveyous down here in CT, and I am sure you could probably make more money teaching riding and whatnot to young Fairfield county children and interested rich folk.

<- doesn\'t like any band that is an exploration, project, or experiment, or contains words like groove, rhythym, soul, etc.
-
ahahahahaha
If I had known that was the actual name of the band, my opinion might have been different.
Besides, I didn\'t say I don\'t LIKE bands with these words... I said I don\'t TRUST bands whose names contain soul, funk, groove, rhythm, jam, etc.
Except for my band, the Groovealicious Soulfunk Jamnation Rhythm Collective.
I have no problem with explorations or projects. You never heard me say that. Impossible.
-
That is not a "Band name" that is just a description of what Adrian told me goes down at the Osiris Cafe on Monday nights....
-
Perfect.
-
It\'s semantics broseph.......
I understand the difference, I guess the way to figure it out for def would be to go see Adrian\'s sideproject tonight and ask him this question:
"Adrian, would you consider the drumming followed by the pause in Tunage a drum solo or just a drum intro?"
THEN, a good follow up question would be,
"At arch st on Saturday, was it a full out drum solo? And have you ever played a drum solo in the middle of Tunage before?"
I can definitely be wrong on this one....and probably am....
So, uh is this 21+? Cover charge? I would like to clear up the drum solo/drum roll business. Oh yeah and see some ser tunes.

Call up adrian.....I am sure you and gabo could get in if you met Adrian in W. haven and followed or rode with him.....
-
hmm good idea.
-
Come on now Papa Gfunk.....
I wouldn\'t steer you wrong...
Now come over to Team Hard Luck. Search your feelings young one, you know that Hard Luck is where its at. You know it to be true. Come over to Team Hard Luck and we can rule the galaxy, the breakfast galaxy that is......
-
Im looking forward to this:)
Adrians playing drums!(You know its gonna be good)
I dig Jazz but dont know so much about it,
Just some basics they teach in music.
Maybe Ill learn something, thats always good.
I do know Ive never been to a jazz show before, except Joni Mitchell...when she did couple of jazz albums and toured after those......so Im looking forward to a musically awsome night!I hope people get the chance to come out.:yay: Gonna be something.
-
Jess, if you are going with Fitzy, please encourage him to tape if he wasnt planning on it, as I know Adrian has been dying to get some audio and or video of this project.....
Also, tell Fitzy that my phone has been off for a couple of weeks now, so if he has been texting me, I AM NOT IGNORING HIM......
Haven\'t seen Mr. Fitzpatrick on the board for, what feels like, a long time.....
THANKS!
-
I will CERTAINLY, be encouraging him to tape! and Ill tell him about your phone..... I wondered how you are myself.
You got a new car right?
CONGRATS!!!!
-
tell fitzy to take my nomad and get it recorded, I don\'t mind.
BTW, Gencs has ignored everyone and he means it.
-
i don\'t like how all these side projects have shows during the middle of the week! it\'s just not right. yeah, that\'s right...i\'m crying about it...whaaa!!!!! ;)
oh well...i would love to see adrian in a jazz/funk band. you guys will have to keep me updated if they decide to do something on a weekend. this way i\'ll be able to drive my ass home and go to one. i love jazz! grew up on it (and the blues) thanks to my father. i remember when i was younger going to the litchfield jazz festival and it was so much fun. and so relaxing. well...if you guys go, give adrian my best wishes...i\'m sure he\'s gonna rock your heads off!
-
Adrian said there is no cover charge, and he thought Chris would be taping last night. I hope he did. Music starts at 9, so that is good.
Now that 24 officially sucks, I think I will be there next Monday!
-
All this talk makes me think that I will be attending on Monday in the near future. Let me know if anyone wants to head down there in one of the next few Mondays and I can meet up after work.
-
BUMP for the Blah Blah Collective tomorrow at Osirus Cafe......
-
bob lob law
-
my taintly sense is tingling....
anyone goin tonight?
-
I will be there.....
-
I think I\'m going to print out directions and then pray I get out of work early...
Steve-0 is it a prompt 9 o\'clock start?
-
I am pretty sure the start time is not promptly at 9pm....
However they do play till close and Adrian has stated that the second set is when the magic really happens...
However, I just plan on stopping in for a couple of hours and checking out the animal and the scene...
Hope to see you there peachman.
-
Directions seem quite simple.
34 West > 115/Ansonia
Basically take 34 W into and through Derby and then follow the sing to 115/Ansonia. Rt. 115 appears to be Main St. Word. See you there tonight....
-
I wish we didn\'t have pool tonight. I think we might have a monday night off coming up soon. Will def. be in, if and when this happens!
-
Thanks for posting that you AREN\'T coming tonight, and MAY come at some other point in the future if your schedule permits....That is helpfull information for people who are planning on going tonight......well helpful if someone was planning on leaving their camera on the table for people to use at random....he he he

Eat a chunlk of lead

well this will be my final bump of this thread for today........
I should be at Osiris for 10pm at the latest....
Hey and with no BAR tonight, maybe timmy will want to stretch his jazz/funk legs a bit....
The Phrase Of The Week IS: Sit In.....
Ya just never know.....
-
hmm...
-
damn, work held me up a little late
hopefully next week!
-
The Phrase Of The Week IS: Sit In.....
Nooo....THE phrase of the week is, I believe......naaaaat gonna AAAppppeeeennnn!!
-
I made a last minute decision to hit this show and it was infukincredible. They had a kid sit in on the upright acoustic bass last night.... who was unreal. I\'ve never seen anyone play bass like this in my life. The keyboard player, is the most animated musician ever, he used his rig like a jungle gym. Climbing over it, laying under it, all the while laying down some serious towel headed keyboard science. And despite being surrounded by a group of huge musical personalities, Animal was, well, Animal. If you\'ve never seen this boy play jazz, you\'ve only seen half his talent.
The crowd, standing back, mouths dropped in utter amazement included John and Casey of Hubinger ST., SteveGencs, oldnewbie, and Ken documenting the event on film.
If you missed this last night... and you all DID! Don\'t miss it next week

Nice recap Mr. Chagnon......Glad to see you made it home and into work today.......
Folks, this is the real deal..... I am far from a jazz afficianado, but the music being created in the Blah Blah Collective seems to transcend jazz/funk or anything but just amazing music from amazing musicians....
The upright bassist was insane. At setbreak he was telling us how he was playing with some famous German clarinetist (or some other wood horn) in Germany with a head full of acid......
Adrian, forgetaboutit.....Watching him create on the fly, composing if you will, is a treat. It is completely different than watching him behind the kit at a Breakfast show. The sounds are as flavorful as any italian dish the Animal creates in his kitchen at home....
Matt Oestreicher is the keyboardist, and no Bill wasnt using a derrogatory term for arab or whatnot when he said "towel headed keyboard science". Matt is very quirky and drapes a towel over his shaved head while playing at times. Lets put it this way, Ken stepped off his video rig and came over to me and asked me, "what planet do you think this kid is from?"
George Lesiw is a tallented guitarist. Obviously very well versed in jazz and space guitar. It was easy to see the joy on his face as he jammed all night adding just the right amount of guitar to each and every jam.
Unfortunately Mike Nuno took a back seat on bass due to the sit in of the upright bass. He was playing his electric bass, but it was hard to hear him. I look forward to catching another Blah Blah gig to see Mr. Nuno in full flegged action......
All in all this is a musical treat. Those of you who are really not into the whole Timmy Tour cover mania, and want to hear some amazing original jams in the keys of jazz/funk/and sheer outter space would love this. I mean love to the point of drooling on yourselves....
Thanks to BillyChags for meeting me out in the valley. Which, by the way, may seem to be far away but this place is litterally 10 minutes from Milford, CT..... Thanks to Mr. Oldnewb whose quote really blew me away. About 10 minutes after he got there, "I just saw moe. for 5 nights in the city and this is as good as anything i saw there". Thanks for the beer brother...
But really, a huge thank you to The Blah Blah Collective....... I hope to see some great nights down in the beautiful all americal valley this summer.......
-
....and i stand by my statement! (moe. was fucking awesome!!!)
-
i keep trying to get Gabo to go to this but he is being lame. maybe i\'ll be able to convince him for next week. is there a door guy?
-
I will definitely be there next week. That is saying that my mind makes it back with me from PA.
-

No door guy, but that doesnt mean you wont get carded. However, Adrian uses his Gretch kit (bass drum back in ser biz), maybe you guys could go as drum tech and drum tech in training.......
I will definitely be there next week. That is saying that my mind makes it back with me from PA.
maybe if you didnt get drunk on sunday, you would have NOT missed this ser night of epic serness :P
From the last I heard from Ellis, I am pretty sure our minds will have to be mailed back at some point down the road from Anywhere, PA
"HEY DOG! DID YOU SEE THE SIZE OF THAT CHICKEN!"
-
Grrrrr.... I really wanted to go last night... I think Ansonia has got to be like an hour from me though.... You spoiled western CTer\'s can kiss my taint you lazy bums.
Thanks for the recaps from all who were there
-
sounds good. If I didn\'t have to work till 10pm last night, I would have considered this but will put it on the back burner for next week.

move outta the sticks........
15 south >
34 west >
115/Ansonia (there is a sign on 34 that says 34 west/ 8 north LEFT; GO STRAIGHT at that sign to get to 115)
The Osiris is about a mile or two up 115 on your left.
-
i keep trying to get Gabo to go to this but he is being lame. maybe i\'ll be able to convince him for next week. is there a door guy?
Door guy?! Ha!
You\'re in the valley baby
You\'re gonna DIIIIIIIEEEEEEEEE!!!
Steve-O, thanks for the elaboration. That gig deserved the full page treatment, but in my battle weary state this morning, I could only give it a paragraph.
Do we know if that bass player has a regular gig? If he\'s that good for a sit in, I\'d love to see what he could do when he\'s surrounded by musicians that he\'s hooked his proverbial trailer to.
-
I have a feeling that the kid on upright bass may have hopped in his spaceship and taken off to his home galaxy.......I am pretty sure he plays with the Max Rebo Collective....
Oh and TPalms was nearly confirmed for a sitin last night, but the fermented grape grabbed him by the brain banana and he didnt want to venture out behind the wheel of an automobile......
-
Would this be something a snooty mc. jazz snoot like myself would be interested in attending?
My curiousity is piqued.
-
DAMN IT!! I was all set to hit this but was and still am sick! Joc if you want to hit this you are welcome to crash, I\'m about 15 minutes away.
-

Seconded.....

There were a few .infoers I was thinking of all night in that you guys would probably love the shit outta this.
-Joce
-Paul Ryan
-Mikey WhaTheFunk
-Joe Treychica Bonsack
Once Ken gets the dvd, I will try to get my hands on a couple of copies and try to get em out to you guys if you haven\'t already made it down for a monday....

Cool. It would be nice if he had some for Thursday. Thanks Steve.

I am quite sure that Ken will have a few copies for Thursday considering he had copies of pitchies performance at southern that night at Jake\'s........

The guy on the upright was Preston Murphy. He plays with George in the George Lesiw Band. Preston is one sick mofo on that bass. It was awesome last night to have TWO bass lines going at once, really made everything nice and thick.
All in all this is a musical treat. Those of you who are really not into the whole Timmy Tour cover mania, and want to hear some amazing original jams in the keys of jazz/funk/and sheer outter space would love this. I mean love to the point of drooling on yourselves....
I forget who I said this to last night, but that was some of the best music nobody is ever going to hear. It was truely magical, everything clicked.
Do we know if that bass player has a regular gig? If he\'s that good for a sit in, I\'d love to see what he could do when he\'s surrounded by musicians that he\'s hooked his proverbial trailer to.
He\'s the bass player for The GLB, which is George Lesiw, Gill Hawkins Jr., and of course Preston Murphy on bass.
I said this last night too, if a buss crashed through Osiris last night, it would have taken out a substantial amount of musical talent in CT.
Last nights music just simply defied words. Hopefully some more people will come out next week.
-
welcome to the board jeffmcc! Fortunately the show was taped by one of the breakfast taper squad Ken. Audio and Video.......It should be a decent reproduction of what actually went down last night...
And dont worry, I have a good feeling about The Blah Blah Collective, The Osiris Cafe, Monday Nights, And This Summer......
Cant wait till the next one....
Woo-Hoo.
-
damn, another reason why i wish i lived closer to CT. any chance they will be playing weekend shows during the summer?
-

it really all depends on the breakfast\'s schedule coupled with the schedules of the other musicians in the Collective...i assume anyway.....
improv jazz/funk/spacefusion is a tough gig to book, again just an assumption. However if a following does grow there is always a chance.. I assume.....
And I know that when you assume, you make an ASS out of U and ME......but just figured I\'d address Jason\'s question.....however if there is a member of the Blah Blah Collective on .info that may want to address this with more accuracy, please PLEASE go right ahead.....

Thanks, glad to be here.
I was talking with him before he got all his stuff set up. It\'s awesome that there\'s people that go out of thier way to record stuff like this. Of the 4 gigs they\'ve done at Osiris, last night was the best one, good thing it was recorded. Actually, the club has the ability to record everything too. He\'s got the room mic\'d, and picked up the last few tunes with Casey. I\'m sure he\'ll get everything next week. :)
I\'ve been meaning to pick up some quick and dirty mobile recording gear myself for about a year now, maybe now\'s time.
-
Hey Steve, if you see Ken and he\'s got a copy of this show, please grab me one... or it\'s knuckles to the grill for you!

Careful the hobby is extremely addictive and can be very very expensive. If you are ever looking fo info or deals on used gear etc or just simply interested this is 1 of the best places to do it

I have half of a recording kit, just missing mics, ran out of money and basically let Fitzy tape the breakfast shows on my nomad. I did find all that I needed at TS. Great source of information.
-
I\'d like to check this show out.
I often see jazz/funk projects in SF with top-notch musicians. I\'d be curious to see how a humble Monday night show in CT holds up.
-
Al, I think you would dig this shit.....I would love to hear how you think it stacks up against some bay area hip and jazzy shit....
-
Do these guys have a MySpace yet? I\'d love to hear / see some of this shit. I love this kind of thing, and other than with Smoking Boomers, I head Adrian only plays with killer musicians.
If anybody here is coming through or near Atlanta or knows any music loving people in Georgia, come or tell them to come to a killer concert on Friday. My band, "My Friend Ian\'s Band" is playing @ Andrews Upstairs this Friday, May 11. Its some good shit.
Sorry about the plug.
Look out for some Smoking Boomers in July...and mid-August
-
I dont think they have a myspace together yet, they are all insane musicians who probably dont even own computers.....but seriously I am sure you would dig it Ian and definitely be very proud of the old Smokin Boomer drummer Animal Tramantano.....
I know of nobody heading down south at the moment.......Sorry Chipper.
However, I am glad to hear you are coming up for a visit this summer......You can come visit your old Friday haunt BAR as Timmy Tour officially invades it starting the first Wednesday of June.....
Good Luck Mr OoohOoohOoohmacher. Hope the fam is doing well.......
Much Love,
Gencs

nice thanks.......

Personally, I think they need a new name: The Ser Ser Collective.
-
So they play Red Clay. Hmmmm... What time does their set usually start?
-
So they play Red Clay. Hmmmm... What time does their set usually start?
Anywhere from 9 - 930......obviously if the place is stuffed at 9 they will start round then...but this past monday they started at 915 or so....
2 full sets till close.....
-
Cover? I swear that\'s my last question....
-
wow that youtube clip is nasty.
-
For those who are curious, the first clip is Red Clay by Freddie Hubbard. The orignal version is played by Herbie Hancock, Ron Carter, Lenny White (of Return to Forever fame) and Joe Henderson. I highly reccomend this, and any other Hubbard releases from the CTI label. Hell, any CTI releases period.
The second clip, ehhhh, not so much... Not so much at all.
-
Cover? I swear that\'s my last question....
No Cover....No worries on the questions.....
Hopefully with our help we can grow this thing and maybe get even more outside attention brought to this scene....
-
I\'m in. This is the type of stuff that NEEDS to be heard and appreciated, even if it is in Ansonia. This would definetly be a band suited for Daniel St.
-
I talked with Adrain about the Daniel St option...... He did mention that the guys love playing together and shows outside of the valley and at different venues, and end of the week and weekend dates (pending breakfast shows) are definitely an option as the interest grows.....
-
Grrrrreeaattttt. I\'m excited to decifer their sets!!!
-
another thing thats been sort of left out is.....how clearly pleased these other musicians are to be playing with adrian. they are all outstanding musicians in their own rights, but they are obviously quite happy to be playing with someone of his caliber.when theirs only five other people in the room and the musicians cain\'t stop smiling at each other, you know theres something special going on.
-
Actually all the other musicians in the Blah Blah Collective are all musically trained through serious musical schools and whatnot....(I remember hearing adrian saying something about Julliard and Berkley, etc.) Adrian is the only self-taught musician up there.....
Now, I could have misheard or misunderstood what was being said because I had to keep a good eye and ear on BillyChags who was trying to punch me in the face all night long......but that is what I could have sworn I heard.......
Either way its sick.....and they are definitely having a great time playing together......

That\'s Sam Blanchete in the other clip. He\'s a great guitarist in his own right. But yeah, not the best clip of him.
-
yeah, I just didn\'t like the song. I hate when sick musicians shroud themselves in blues simplicity when they could be doing so much more.
-
also.....i\'m hearing that matt will be sitting in on keys sometime in the (very) near future. ;)
(with the breakfast i mean)
-
Good stuff, thanks for the link. Seems like a great way to kick off the week. And as usual, "You Lucky Bastards".
-
also.....i\'m hearing that matt will be sitting in on keys sometime in the (very) near future. ;)

That is what I heard.....and he is supposedly learning one of the "TEAM" Breakfast tunes for the sit in.......Get ready for some ser NANNIES!!!!! It should be ser....
-
Kote?
-
There is def no Team Kote broseph.......
-
Whatever brah.... I stick by my convictions. We\'re the equivalent of skull n\' bones in this community.
-
wow that youtube clip is nasty.
that clip, while good, doesn\'t begin to touch what was happening there on Monday. The additional keys and bass took the collective to a different level.

Yup.
I think Matt is going to be sitting in on tonights gig at Daniel St.

Sammy also sits in with Hubinger St. from time to time. Trust me, he\'s somebody to keep an eye on.

Sammy is Casey\'s student right? If thats who I am thinking of, the kid has got some ser chops......

That\'s him, he also studies with George (Lesiw).

BUMP for tonight.......
I will be passing on the Blah Blah tonight to continue to recoup from the weekend.....
-
If we don\'t get into playoffs at pool this week, we\'ll be there next week.
-
I think I\'m going to print out directions and then pray I get out of work early...
-
is anybody going to hand out a couple free tickets to the Webster......... maybe......
-
Well I made it down last night for Set 1 and all I can say is WOW this is some super ser jazz/fusion going on! Everybody needs to get down there and witness this, no excuses. I know it\'s Monday, but at least go and check out a set. Sound was perfect, nice room, and friendly atmosphere. Sadly, there was only about 10 people witnessing some of the best stuff ever!!
-
Sadly, there was only about 10 people witnessing some of the best stuff ever!!
Definatly some of the best stuff ever!(thats some Funky Jazz!)and even though not a packed room the ones that were there will more than likely be going back and word will spread!
At times when it was quiet I got hear some of the reactions of the folks who were there,my favorite-"What the hell is this? its F***in amazing!"
People were def. blown away!
-
It will keep growing......Especailly with the summer right around the corner......
Good to hear there were some first timers there.....I should be there next week......I took this week off so I could make it to Switch Up tonight.....

thank you for the correction.....
-
Well... I was planning on coming tonight but a friend of mine who lives far away is in town for one night so looks like I\'ll have to wait another week. meh.
-
We had a great time tonight! Too bad we needed to leave early. REALLY sucked that it took us about an hour to get home through the I-95 parking lot! It looked like it was one hell of an accident. It was cleaned up by the time we got to it. We could have caught another half an hour of music and still gotten home at the same time. :sigh:
Matt "The Streicher Fish" was hilarious tonight! And of course, Adrian was blowing minds left and right. Ken was shooting video again, so all the slackers that weren\'t there can see. We\'re definitely going to be playing hooky from pool to see them again soon!
-
Any chance of getting these on the calendar?
-
Ummm...every Monday night.
-
thank you for the correction.....
LOL, he was AWOL last night anyway.
There\'s been talks of getting another drummer to sit in for some dual drumming. That\'s going to be sick.
-
Matt "The Streicher Fish" was hilarious tonight!
 he had some great antics during the non-keyboard parts of the songs!!! I\'m sad to have left so early, but with summer coming (22 days left!) I\'ll be a regular down at the oSERis cafe much more often. I had a great time in the valley last night - hope to have many more fans hearing/seeing these shows :awwyeah:
-
I\'m off next tuesday... might have to check this one out. Anything that joc is willing to drive to ct on a monday for and even more that mark is raving this much about, I pretty much have to go.

only if you todd and chris don\'t make me drive you home again.
:duck:
-
rotfl  well, even if you did, at least it would only be about 20 minutes, as opposed to 4 hours!!! ;)
-
Paul, if I go and you have the next day off, you had better be there.
-
yo anyone else trying to go to this anoche?
-
I MAY be out on this one.... I am semi-broke and I am going to the Sox game tomorrow.
-
it depends on whether or not we have pool tonight. I think the new season starts either tonight or next monday - so, I\'m not entirely sure!
-
No pool!! I\'m in!
-
me n sallyalli= there fo sho
-
Nice!
-
I had to opt out of going to this last night as I was pretty much dead to the world......
How was the evening?
-
I was shot after working on the house most of the weekend. Didn\'t make it.
-
pretty wild. Adrians seat broke and he fell backward in the first song. he was pretty much miserable for the rest of the set. i guess its like his worst nightmare to lose balance while playing so he was pretty distraught. second set there were a bunch of sitins, this 18 year old guitar player was pretty sick and there was a samoan jimmy hendrix who ripped shit up. matt ostreicher is a taint!!! (in a good way obviously). i\'d never seen/heard him before, and when hawaiian hendrix was shredding matt started writhing about on th floor as if having a seizure (adrian called it breakdancing). i thought he was a great keyboardist tho. good time and ken hooked me up with a 3 blah blah dvds and a bunch of breakfast dvds (including the last century lounge sweeet). too bad ansonia is like 1.333333 hours from willi.
-
what kind of odds are we giving that neither Lexingtaint and SallyAli didnt make it either????
I stand corrected......broseph....
Damn adrian fell? that sucks!
-
started writhing about on th floor as if having a seizure (adrian called it breakdancing).
 He was looking like a snake last week. Partly with keyboard in tow. He\'s a total goof!

Preston was in da hizzy on Monday.
Another awesome night of music for the handfull of people in Osiris.
-
Its cool that Blah Blah was able to get a regular Monday night gig. Personally just difficult for me to get down to the valley on a Monday.
-
Mondays are tough for us, no matter where it is. Still waiting for a show on another night, or another bye in pool.
-
Mild rumor of Tim in da house this coming Monday.....
-
Mild rumor of Tim in da house this coming Monday.....
Rumor was indeed rumor. Headin\' out anyway, come on y\'all!
-
I am sure it is gonna be sweet....
Tell Adrian that Moonbrah is with him....always.
-
He just finished a conga lesson with Mairead and is heading out the door.
-
I am sure it is gonna be sweet....
Tell Adrian that Moonbrah is with him....always.
So does this mean your not comming out?
-
Def Not.......
Not because I dont want to
Not because I dont think its gonna be an amazing night of music
Just because I would rather go to Guilford on Friday to see Adrain play with the Americana/Bluegrass thin he\'s got going on
And at this point in time it has to be one or the other for me
Sorry Chipper.
Have fun...
And actually Brimley, Broseph, AND Moonbrah will be in the house....
-
OKeDOKI:)
-
Ok. Next Monday, I am definitely going.
Would someone please remind me on Sunday? Like send me a pm or something? I know that is totally ridiculous, but I just keep forgetting.
-
You Better!! So much fun!!
Just got home!(and aside from the setlist debate.......(sorry but there ws 50 ways to leave your lover in there, at some point, somewhere by someone,I heard it!
Jocelyn DONT FORGET! ! and you will be reminded before the week is up!:awwyeah:

Then cool,no excuses for not going and enjoying what I just enjoyed!!
-
Absolutely stellar performance last night, as per usual.
PEOPLE get out here, this must be seen to be believed!!!
-
that was fun. very interesting to see adrian doing something so different.
freebird though?!
-
Absolutely ass kicking show last night. Honestly, I can\'t seem to understand the lack of support that most of you, in the New Haven area, show to these cats. I came back up from NYC to be at the show, and my only regret is that I didn\'t hear more of the show.
Personally, if the greatest drummer in CT is playing funk-jazz-psychedelic music - I\'m there. But .info people - You NEED TO SHOW OUT! I know that most of you have been pushing for a keyboard player to join the band...and here is Animal playing with a SER keyboard player who (God willing) might be interested in creating a long-term relationship with tB. Go out and convince him that he needs to be a part of The Breakfast. Show him how "ser" Breakfast fans can be, not just on Timmy Tour. And damn, the music was fucking good.
-
If it was any other night...

this isn\'t ellis

How come?:idunno:

Easy guy...........of course its good. this thing just started.....do you realize how long it took Tim to build a serious Wednesday night "thing"? It was at least a year before things got rolling, and it probably got rolling a bit faster than usual because there was no such thing as Breakfast side projects before that...........I would be at every side project for every member of the band if I could, but sometimes its just not possible.....I feel insulted by you mr. schumacher and your comments......

Aren\'t you forgetting the pinnacle of The Breakfast sideprojects? The Diesels? Without a doubt, the Diesel Experiments were the genesis of SEVERAL Tb sideprojects. Chili Peppers Diesels lead to GTB. Americana Diesel lead to Smokin Boomers. Accoustic Diesel, well, that\'s pretty self explanatory. I personally miss the hell out of Diesel\'. Thematic evenings are much more creative and entertaining than a continuous regurgitation of classic/modern rock radio hits. That being said, I hope Tim wasn\'t messing around when he commented on a possible Steely Dan diesel....
-
Stevie, I truly belive that you would be there for every last note. I\'m merely suggesting that there are a lot of people who love this band here in the greater New Haven area and if they want to really try to help out the band, they need to be heading out to these shows. Lets face it - 9 out of 10 of you would love to see a killer keys player join up. Timmy told me that he thought Matt was at least as good on keys as he was on guitar. I don\'t know about you guys, but that sounds like a dude that really fits the bill. Make friends, let him see how much you guys want him around (if you do). Its also a good occasion to help out Big Daddy Tramontano keep the finances flowing for his new family situation. Plus the music kicks ass. For those of you that haven\'t been, give it a run.
see you thursday @ SBC

I am definitely NOT forgetting the Diesel stuff, as I was at quite a few of them, but they are a standalone thing to me and not really have anything to do with Timmy Tour, Blah Blah, etc. At least in my opinion.....
There are quite a few things that Tim definitely DOES NOT joke about or mess around with, and at the top of that list is his music, musical ideas, and musical concepts, etc. So if he said it, I am sure he wants to do it, a la the A-Z Beatles, Bringing back the Diesel, and such......Its a great time to be a fan of these musicians and even greater if you live in the Greater New Haven County area....
Ian, I hear you, but you have to remember one thing. In general, people suck balls.... We are trying to grow this Blah Blah thing, and I have all the confidence in the world that in the not too distant future you will see many many people turning out for these shows....
-

Who is trying to grow this thing? How about trying to grow more Breakfast shows?
-
Since Mondays are now empty, will somebody PLEASE put these on the calendar?
-
Who is trying to grow this thing? How about trying to grow more Breakfast shows?
That is the booking agent and managements responsibilites. Honestly I am sick of this discussion.....There are usually NEVER any breakfast shows mon - wed, so if these guys want to make some side cash playing in side projects, good for them........They dont have management or booking agents, so it IS TRULY DEPENDANT on the fans and word of mouth to help get people to these gigs.......and keep them going.....
-
Right on, Mr. G.
I just want to see these guys succeed - in the side projects and most of all, the Breakfast. Unfortunately, I think that they are in a rut here in CT, and unless something extreme happens (new keys player, real management, people coming to shows, getting festival dates, etc...) I am afraid the band will not be able to sustain itself, both financially and emotionally. All I\'m saying is you .info\'ers need to do your part or I\'m going to steal these guys and bring them back to Georgia with me.
-

Lets go........I am part of the package now broseph.
Unfortunately I wont be able to make it to SBC tomorrow, but I have a request for you Ian. Can you play Tom Petty\'s Free Falling, BUT, please dont bastardize it with the "freeballing" lyrics.........I dont care either way, but I am willing to bet that you subconsciously go there anyway......
Have fun and hope to catch you before you head back home.......
-
BUMP.
See you all there for the second set tonight.........
-
I hope alot of people show up for this tonight! Well worth it!
Id be there, however I can not go.Bottle of red bottle of white,a few of each, so Im goin to bed!Hope to hear about the good music I missed in the daytime.:confused:I wish I could go.
-
Wish I could make it down to Blah Blah on Monday nights. Seems every Monday I get the 8:59 phone call and I am stuck talking insurance to someone who thinks I am speaking Arabic.
-
Well its almost 1 am and I shoulda gone!!I am still awake.UUGGGG!That was not my plan for this evening.:thumbsdow.
Im going next week though.:D
-
Bah. I totally forgot. Again.
-
:chin: Any word about this group spreading outside of the valley, and on a different night than Monday?
-
Great music as usual from the Blah Blah Collective.......
Rumor has it that George Lesiw has a prior comitment next week and Adrian will be asking Tim to sit in for the whole night.....
Oh and to answer your question robyn...Adrian has quit the Breakfast so he can take the Blah Blah Collective on the road, and play other nights than just monday....
-
ya, where was my sunday night reminder

Wooops,I think I was supposed to be a reminder:pout:Im sorry
but,the guitar player (forgot his name again! and called him the wrong one 2 min after he told me) isnt going to be there? What if Tim does not play?Do they have anyone else?
-
since I have next Tuesday off, I plan on being at Osiris next week.
-
ya, where was my sunday night reminder
yeah!
-
Ladies and Gentlemen of Earth - I will be accompanying the boys of Blah Blah next Monday for a wonderful exploration of musical knowledge and heritage. We will dance, we will sing, we will laugh, we will cry, we will drink, we will smoke, we will!
See you in the valley. Here is your Sunday reminder - go to the #$%^*&! blah blah show next @$%^!@&* Monday. peace
-
now see, sir gencs...sooo many people are requesting blah blah for another day (my preference being fri/sat night). and not every fri/sat is taken up by a breakfast show or side project (according to the calendar). so your job is to relay this to adrian so he can discuss with the others, and have them choose a night, book it (venue doesn\'t matter...shit i\'d go to any hole in the wall to see this amazing affair), and play it! :) i\'m positive that more heads from .info alone would show up, plus the regular weekend drinkers, which = more $$$ and promoting....eh? eh? how\'s that work for ya?? ;)
-
just go on Monday nights, Monday sucks anyways, might as well get ready for Tuesday.
-
ya, where was my sunday night reminder
yeah!
Woops again.I am sorry!:pout:
I will remind myself to to remind you guys so I better see both of ya next Monday!
and oh, if I read more clearly, the guitar players name is George I kept calling him Glenn(im sorry for that too.) Monday will be fun!:)Im sorry I missed last night.
-
YAY! I\'ll even be in charge of sunday-reminders
-
Weeks go by so quick!
How come a whole week goes by faster than 1 day at my jobs?I do not get it!:P
-
cuz you\'re freakin nuts. its only tuesday ;)

But...it would also have to be when George\'s band isn\'t playing either. Even a Tuesday night would work for me.
-
people - monday is the day - do it or don\'t. either way - i\'ll be there this monday. lets have some fun. peace
-
No guest musicians besides TPalms. No vocals. Play some Brand X and I\'m there....
-
Tim... that is not a helpful reminder.
Ladies... thanks. If I show up Monday it will be all because of you two.
For the record, my memory has always been this bad; it is not my doing.
And since you guys are pulling for a change of day, I suppose I should pull for a change of venue. My living room would be really convenient....
-
just go on Monday nights, Monday sucks anyways, might as well get ready for Tuesday.
week days are not feasible for me since a) i live in RI and wouldn\'t be able to drive back that night since i would be up for nearly 24 hours, and b) i have to be up at 4am on tuesdays to be at work by 5:30...i wouldn\'t be a happy camper, especially with golf balls flying at me at 7am. however, i have watched and thoroughly enjoyed what i\'ve seen on youtube. and i guarantee that i would show up on a weekend show.
-
Oh and to answer your question robyn...Adrian has quit the Breakfast so he can take the Blah Blah Collective on the road, and play other nights than just monday....
ASSuming you\'re trying to be sarcastic, Jenx, it pretty much confirms that I will never see the BlahBlahCollective play. Thanks, you big oaf, thanks.
-
i for one like the mondays - it\'s sort of a special little treat
-
Great show Monday night, I\'m surprised I can remember it after all the margaritas.
The impromptu Zeppelin medley was sweet, as was the Povo/Come Together mish-mash-mind-fuck. Awesome.
I can\'t think of a better way to kick off my Mondays.
-
sounds like a nice beginning to the week.
-
It\'s there on Monday nights for those who can/want to see it. Sorry chip if you cant get out on Mondays.......Sometimes I make it out. Sometimes I cant. Thats the way the shit goes down. Dont count on this project changing its day of the week.........if they changed it to tuesday, would it really matter? If they changed it to Wednesday, would Tim\'s BAR show detract from the Blah Blah crowd? If so, thats a sorry chip. If not, then would a Wednesday night be really any different from a monday? and even if they changed it to an open thursday (because The Breakfast will and SHOULD always come first), would it really make a difference? And I am sure that if they do schedule it on a friday or saturday, people will always have something to do........so just go on mondays if you can or want to? or dont. If you really really wanted to see it, you would make it a top priority to see it............For the love of Broseph!
-
If you really really wanted to see it, you would make it a top priority to see it............For the love of Broseph!
Sooory Chip, there\'s no "I" in team. We committed to a "team" and will hopefully be able to slip away here and there.
-
Just so I know, do PM\'s suffice as sunday-reminders, or are actual phone calls required?
keep in mind i am making payments on my $494 cell phone bill from last month ... and some effort might be required to collect some #\'s ;)
-
Alrighty its Monday!!
So I am being a reminder like I said.(sorry about no Sunday reminder I was not in rear form so I forgot)
Its a gorgeous day!!
-
MySpace told me that Tim will be sitting in this week. Truth?

Are you and Robyn going to be able to go tonight?
-
If we get out of pool early, there\'s a good chance of a 2nd set arrival.
-
I am so not ready for Block Island that I have to do all my last minute bullshit after work tonight and early tomorrow morning. If I make it down tonight, which I hope, I will be amazed.

GOOOODDNNNIIGHHHHTTT!!!!
-
How the hell did you guys get home so quick?!!
Finesse!! Nothing but finesse! ;)
-
What a night! I have never seen anything like it. It will take a while to decipher the spontaneous combustion that occurred on stage last night. Best version of Whipping Post ever played by anyone. Best version of The Chicken ever played period. Who would have thought Ansonia would be the home of some of the best music on the planet!!!! Wow!
-
if you didn\'t make it to this show, then you didn\'t:
get dry humped by Todd.
see some 17 year old kid tear the schnot out of whipping post
see Striker, Striker, Striker! collapse (James Brown style) at the end of whipping post.
see timmy play his guitar w/ Animals drum mallet
get served booze by the nicest bar staff in the All American Valley.
hear Space City Flash Gordon Affair>Polka Insanity>Space City Flash Gordon Reprise
hear/see one of the best drum performances I\'ve ever seen/heard.
-
<<<< just couldn\'t do it. i have to save my wits for BI
-
crazy night of music, ostriecher is officially a madman.
whipping post = insanity
-
Wits were definitely lost last night as far as i am concerned.....
The texture and style that tim brought to the blah blah was unparalleled. With George in California, Adrian took over as defacto leader of the Collective. Right from the first note it was easy to tell that the night was going to have a little different flavor. Tim with his boomerang and magic stop was off and running with sounds and loops, while Adrian was attacking the drums with precise finesse. Mike Nuno sat stoic whilst dropping the basslines and patiently waiting to add his own brand of madness to the mix. And of course Mr. Matt Oestricher was a pulsating being of energy and creativity on the keys.
The highlights for me were, what billychags referred to as Space City Flash Gordon Affair, sounded more to me like something off the Zone 1 CD. it was spacey yet funky yet with this cutting rock and roll edge to it. Yes it did go into a ser Polka Jam.
Sammy, a 17 year old guitar prodigy under the tutalage of Casey from Hubinger St., had brought his guitar and amp as requested. We watched the first set together sharing eachothers awe and admiration for the musicians on stage. When I asked Sammy when he was getting up to play during setbreak, he said that after what he just witnessed he couldnt possibly get up there and play. However, he did. Sammy sat in for the first 2 songs of the second set. The first, which the song name escapes me, I believe was a Herbie Hancock tune. The second was Whipping Post, where the furious guitar play between Tim and Sammy was equaled by the insane vocal stylings and stage antics of Matt Oestreicher.
What was to follow though is what really blew me out of the water last night. I am not sure what to call the song that they played. Matt introduced it as, "an original composition that was written 15 minutes from now". As they got into it Matt mutters, "I am going to speak the future". Tim hears this and his head drops and all focus is now on his instrument. Matt starts talking, narrating if you will, about "all these people in the room" and how everyone is "breathing in", "inhaling", "exhaling", and then the people started realizing that they were all breathing the same air. Then the people started to dance and move to the music. By that time in the song, Tim was on his knees with his guitar and working the boomerang and other pedals. As the jam progressed, Tim stood up, turned his guitar upside down with the headstock on the floor and the body up towards his and was stroking some amazing sounds out of it. He then proceeded to pick up the guitar and beat sounds out of it with his guitar strap and then Adrians mallet. All the while, Adrian is banging rythems out of anything and everything including the thin air. And of course Mike was adding the spice on bass, while Matt just hemmoraged his expressions through the keys and mic.
It was an amazing night of music. And that is the least one could say about what went down in the valley last night............
-
Excellent Review!! Wow! I didnt know that he is 17,Hes played with them before right?or am I thinking of someone else?

And that is the least one could say about what went down in the valley last night............
all i have to say is..... i suck!!!!!! and was Ken or a taper there to document the madness
-
Ken was there and taping.......

Wow!
I should have borrowed a car and headed down last night.

Great review Stevie. We got there right at the end of setbreak and got to witness the coming of the Music Lord!!!

had a great time at this last night. i will definitely be back down again. thanks for playing the little mermaid jam!

I was thinking get caught up on sleep for B.I., though I got a shitty rest due to uncomfortable pillows, humidity and dust irritating my eyes and nose.

ya the future composition was wild.... it was hilarious how the bassist was playing so wild but showing so little emotion through his body language.... at one point in the original composition (or whatever they called it) matt wasn\'t even playing the keys anymore but sliding along the wall like he was stuck to it and then bear hugging the bass player while the guy is thumpin away with tim and adrian.....
thanks to everyone for the birthday wishes (especially matt for dedicating the original composition to me and korey (kartoon420)) and drinks
this was one of the most amazing nights of music i have ever experienced, and what a way to kick off an amazing weekend...

I\'m so glad I got the chance to experience this "song" (for lack of a better word) last night! You did a great job describing it, Steve, but it was truly one of those -you had to be there- moments. Watching TPalms use one of Adrian\'s cotton-covered drumsticks on his guitar was pure insanity... but it sounded so incredible! Matt is hilarious & goofier than Tim~ which is a hard task to win - together, the musicians last night created some of the best tunes/skits I\'ve seen! I\'ll be going back to the valley every Monday night from now on :thumbsup:

wow from the description of last night it seems like this might be the "IT" week to be catching Breakfast shows.
Tim and Adrian were awesome on Saturday and it seems they are only getting crazier as the week moves along.

I couldn\'t have said it better, Robyn! I\'m SO glad we decided to go last night, it was amazing! I don\'t know what took me so long to actually go see these guys, I think the fact that it was on a Monday kept holding me back, but after last night, I don\'t care, it was so worth it even if I was useless at work today from lack of sleep! :D I cannot believe I have to miss Block Island, but at least I have the weekend shows to look forward to! :disco:
-
So, I may have said this before, if I did then, sooorry, but I don\'t care how lame I sound when I describe this show. It was not what I expected....I\'m mean I knew it would be good but jesus christ! I found myself just clapping in the middle of shit for no apparent reason and just laughing over and over. I was reminded of ALL the sickest, wildest, most frenzied, abstract shit that I\'ve ever heard or seen anywhere ever. The great thing about tremendous musicians is the way they can instantly play off of each other like they\'ve been doing it since birth. Last night was one of those nights, too bad more people weren\'t there to see and feel it. They took me to places I haven\'t been in years. There was this one jam in the 1st set that sounded a little like Gumbo, I forget what it was called but that fuckin\' silly super speedy shit that came after it was nothing short of amazing. I was just laughing and smiling when normally I\'m too much of an overly analytical dope to smile and not look as if I\'m studying the band and taking mental notes to just cut loose and relax. Shit was absolutely insane. That Sammy dude jumped up there and absolutely tore the roof off the goddamn place, I don\'t think there was a person there who wasn\'t blown away by Whipping Post, if the Allmans even with the line up they have now, had the balls that these guys showed during that shit I\'d see \'em a lot more, it sounded as if it was totally rehearsed when it just built and built and then.....stopped.....and came back, and who the hell knew Matt could sing?! Maybe if he hadn\'t humped his keyboard it wouldn\'t have fallen on him, even though I swear that he wanted it too. I don\'t even know what too say about the song that was "written fifteen minutes from now," and the jam that came out of it right around the time Tim was hitting the strings with the mallet was fuckin\' spectacular, and when his perfectly timed and placed solo began, I felt like I was floating a few inches off the ground. I\'ve maybe only seen Adrian play with that non stop intensity a few time if ever at all. Tim was at his best, no question. I like Matt more and more every time I see him and that bass player, well I don\'t know how he sat there playing like he did and not even really move or change the expression on his face, it reminded me of Derek Trucks a lot. Wish I could see it again and again and again....by the way, I was humped on the leg by Todd too.
-
Well put! another excellent written review! yeah, last night sure was something!Really Im so amazed by the way those guys played!
I want to hear it all over again.

 well, mandler, ya missed a great show, as per usual (and so did I). I ended up playing the last match in pool, and it went until close. Thankfully, I have a whole summer full of Monday nights in the near future! ;)
-
I attended this past weeks festivities, and I must say it was fun.
Regular bass player not available so the guy, Preston something, who plays upright bass sat in for the night. Adrian really pretty much lit up the place all night. Matt was very chill and meditative most of the night, reportedly from a day of music playing with Breakfast friends. All in all a very good time.
Oh and Matts girlfriend(wife?) sat in and sang on whipping post and Sir duke, which may be the highlight of the night for me.
Probably wont be there this week, but should be making an appearance again the week after....... All you locals should stop bein lazy bums and get out and see some good tunes on monday nights...
-
Monday again...:)I will be looking forward to Blah Blah when Im pushing my way through my God Awful day of work.Dont get me wrong, I love to work and lucky to have my jobs but.... Im Bored.
-
So...we ended up going tonight. We got there late, around 12:10. No Adrian, no familiar faces. I forgot to confirm with Adrian yesterday that he would be there. We were still treated to 45 minutes of insanely great vibes! It is now totally official that Matt is out of his fucking gourd!! And...I love it!!

I personally have had many space travels where I ended up with people I have not known. You can usually feel the energy that the people are emitting and hopefully your receptors can read them properly.

Yes, most of us have pretty decient judgement, however, the hundgesmoker in question has proven time after time after time, that she does not....... I would feel horrible if I found out that she was snatched up and made to be Jeff Dirzius\' sex slave before being brutally murdered, sliced into tiny pieces and cooked up in some kind of canniballistic stew.....

what\'s the scene like on monday nights, ppl hangin???
-
I\'m watching the BBC show Tim sat in on in June. Have any come close to that one?
-
the night that tpalms sat in was a unique night, and utterly jaw dropping at times
blah blah is an impressive progressive jazz experience, but i only saw them once with tpalms subbing on guitar and then one night with preston subbing on upright bass
sorry, peaches incognito

someone always hangin!
late nite my house
WHAT?! im kidding

i believe the word was "fight", spacey... fight.
-
i believe the word was "fight", spacey... fight.
indeed it is. my bad.
Who fought? Who won?
-
it wasnt anyone who was there to see the band. it was a guy in wife beater and a guy in a black shirt. the bartender chick got involved and then the 2 guys fought a couple more times. george and mike jumped off stage and held one of the guys down. i think the guy in black booked when the bartender called the cops, but the other guy was on the ground, possibly unconscious. then the cops and an ambulance came.
caitlin was just sitting down at the drum kit to start playing when all of this went down and the show stopped. it fucken sucked.
-
... and this is why the valley can\'t have nice things.
-
well, it\'s a bar. people drink, get drunk, and fight in bars. does that make it right? no, but it happens.
i think adrian should be more concerned about his income than canceling a steady gig because there was a fight at a bar.
-
Wait Dave, this can be a blessing in disguise. The cancelling of this project may actually lead to ::gasp:: more Breakfast gigs ::gasp::

oh right, because they play shows on days that aren\'t thu/fri/sat! sweet!
-
That was kind of my point....
-
or, perhaps, they could find another place, if they don\'t want to continue you there but I really see no reason why the gig should be cancelled.
Must have been one hell of a fight.
-
Probably something out of Roadhouse.... That Patrick Swayze, he\'s so dreamy...
-
either way, must have been a good fight.
-
Another fun night of fist pumping music.

There was a fight. It\'s over.
No pets or children were harmed in the production of this edit.
-
well, alls well that ends well. at least the barefoot dude got knocked out.
-
wow. thanks for the recreation. that is amazing.
-
Sounds like as fun night to be out on the town!
Sounds like the bartender (for having bad taste in meatheads) and/or her boyfriend needs to go.
Blah Blah Collective = innocent bystander.
-
As far as cancelling Monday nights at Osiris with the BBC, I hope that doesn’t happen.
Momentum has been building for Monday nights since they started this thing, and some asshat with a temper should not be allowed to single handedly put an end to it.
:that: It\'s finally on the .info calendar. It would completely suck balls if now there is no more BBC :(
-
Dave Dana on guitar tonight.
-
YEAAAHHH! Thats what Blah Blah Is all about!Tonight was GREAT!:)
-
BLAH BLAH was back last night. Very good mood there...NO PROBLEMS!! Everyone was great........especially the music!
-
Monday bump.
Monday night at Osiris is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you\'re going to get.
Except in this case you know you\'re going to get a ton of great music.
Steve Clarke is on bass tonight to funk up the fusion with freakishy fine fidelity.
Check him out:

Per usual, 99% of you missed the Blah Blah last night. Being part of the 1% that did not, I\'ve come to gloat at the treasure you missed.
I walked in to the last few minutes of a nasty Herbie Hancock "Chameleon" which of course caused me to kick myself for having that "one more beer" before heading to the valley.
The line up: Adrian, George, Matt and a new bass man, I don\'t have a name, however this guy was nasty. For the purposes of this review I will call him King Vibrato. There was also a guy that looked like my junior high shop teacher playing alto (?) sax.
Ya know how sometimes when the drum or bass solo\'s occur, the rest of the band sorta walks away from the stage to chat up some honey, or turns and fiddles with their own nobs. Last night this band was so tight that there was very little drum/ bass solo break down. Matt & George would stayed dialed in for the whole solo, adding some dynamite sounds that took these solo\'s to a new level.
It was Matt\'s birthday last night, as presents, his girl came down and added some sweet jazz vocals for a song in the second set. He also gifted himself by covering a ballad off "a record that he once owned, but lost, but he really loved that song and wanted to hear it again..."
The real treasure of the evening came at set break. When it was realized that both Adrian\'s star pupile Caitlain and Casey\'s (of Hubinger St. fame) 18 year old guitar student/ virtuoso were sitting 5 feet from each other. Permission slips were signed and the two yutes climbed on stage with Matt and King Vibrato for 3 blazing instrumentals. This grouping actually got the barmaids, and regulars to come and watch the next generation of Connecticuts finest rip through some material.
This was some of the tightest playing from the Blah Blah that I\'ve ever seen. King Vibrato was a great fill in.... addition (?), I hope to see more of him. George took his game to a higher plane last night and Adrian was a man possessed. Musical highlight of the night for me might have been their cover of The Meter\'s "Cissy Strut" but then again that Freedom Jazz Dance was pretty nasty.
But never fear. Ken, his camera, and his new GARGANTUAN light rig were also in attendance. Next time you see him, try and snag a copy. This is a real gem for the collection.
p.s. - after further review King Vibrato = S. Clarke
-
SLIM>I agree with your review....it was some great playing!! Mr. Steve Clark is the NEW Blah bassist. Mikey N. has decided to step aside for now.
The young guitarist was Sam Blanchette. He and Caitlin "rocked" the place or should I say "Jazzed"??? Matt was in top form as usual and so was Adrian, George and Steve.
Listen up people.......IF YOU HAVEN\'T BEEN DOWN TO SEE THIS BAND YOU\'RE MISSING SOMETHING SPECIAL!!!! OK..now I\'ll quiet down again....it\'s definitely worth the trip to the valley.
By the way....I am Chris, aka Caitlin\'s dad. We\'ve been sharing the "Caitlindrums" name for a while so I created my own. Hope to see you all at a gig soon.
-
I\'ll go if someone can write out a setlist so I know what to expect. As much as I love Matt and Adrian, I\'ve heard enough fusion staples like "Chameleon" and "Cissy Strut" to last me thousands of lifetimes.....

Have we answered the question, why does Ken have a light rig?

Fuck you man, I was stating a preference.
-
Relax guy. I was merely calling out your preference as weak sauce... be it, not in a very mature manner.
If Ken needs GARGANTUAN lights to achieve his vision. Let the man do it.

Joe-I GUARANTEE you anything they play is not a "staple", even if the title is!

bingo! the songs are merely launching pads. I don\'t watch/listen to jazz for the song selection. It\'s to see what a serious musician can do given the right vehicle (ie a group of equally talented musicians).
I\'d pay to see Coltrane & Monk do a selection of Wiggles songs.

Launching pad is right.....First, even if the songs starts as a standard jazz jam tune (ie:Chameleon) it rarely stays that way for long....they take the song so far sometimes that it would be hard to recognize it...it\'s always a unique journey. Second...if you hear the word "jazz" sometimes you might picture Adrian riding the cymbal while the bass walks the groove....NOT. These tunes get as funky or spacey or rockin\' or sometimes jazzy as music can get.
As far as a set list.....that\'s like saying were all going to meet out at a bar tonight to have a conversation but I\'m not coming unless I know what we\'re going to be talking about. These guys just get up and have a musical conversation....
But if need a few examples: I walked in a few weeks to the band playing Led Zep\'s "Black Dog"....very cool instrumental version. This past Monday, Matt started playing song...no one knew what he was doing but they all joined in. Matt said at the end.." I used to have that song on a record but I lost it. I wanted to hear it again so....." LOL...He wanted to hear it so they played it. You never know what to expect....Stevie Wonder, Blues, a jazz standard, a space jam, Adrian playing on the mirrors, Matt break dancing, George ripping ala Holdsworth, special guests...sax, trumpet, chromatic harmonica, singers, dancers........
Blah Blah is a great name.....hope to see more people there.
-
The only thing sligtly attractive in your description was Holdsworth....
-
i will definatley be there this monday if it\'s scheduled

well....the response speaks for itself. It\'s probably best if you don\'t check out Blah Blah. It doesn\'t seem like your type of music. That\'s cool.
Peace :)
i will definatley be there this monday if it\'s scheduled
Even with the Holiday...it\'s still on.....

cool. I actually have work off and think I can finally swing a Monday night unless moving consumes me.
-
Freedom Jazz Dance has been the only song I\'ve seen them repeat. As Matt explained Monday night it\'s an ugly song that he thinks that Eddie Harris was experimenting with mathmatics when he wrote.
Other than that, each night is completely different.
-
i will definitely be there this Monday if it\'s scheduled
Even with the Holiday...it\'s still on.....
.....BECAUSE of the holiday, I\'ll be there... especially since I just quit the pool league that was taking up my Monday nights before :)
-
Because of the holiday, the pool league I still play on has the night off and I can be there.
-
so, let me get this straight, after what I assume will be all of us seeing each other all weekend, I get to go out Monday and see you all again but with a new soundtrack. not sure if I like all of you that much.
