I know all of you have good taste in music, whos ear is the best...
Whos got my heady breakfast tunes chord progressions?
-
what tunes do you want to know?
-
don\'t have them on me now, but after learning many tunes, some easier some harder (the chase, doughboy) on guitar, TB\'s chrod progression\'s, IMO, are their most underrated part of their music. Tim writes these very unusual progressions that usually reside in the lower region of the guitar. i couldn\'t think of these progressions in my lifetime, which is why i have become more and more impressed with tim\'s song writing skill, (much like how i feel about the dead and radiohead). if you wanted doughboy, i can give that to you in a 5 min if you want, just let me know
-
yea, tims chrod progressions rock! :duck:

How\'s about Drunk Monk (I know you can play that one!)? Can\'t seem to get past the opening riff.
-
here\'s two old ones I play every now and then.

ok - who\'s got my heady mandolin tabs? :chin:
-
ok - who\'s got my heady mandolin tabs? :chin:
easy - a mandolin is stringed gg-dd-aa-ee. a bass guitar is stringed e-a-d-g. flip your mandolin over so that your playing it left handed and grab any tab to a bass line. Or, read any bass tab but play what they do upside down. The octave placement will be all screwy, but the melodies will be recognizable as your still hitting the correct notes.
so if a bass line was this:
G----------------------------
D---5-4-3-2------------------
A---------------5-4-3-2------
E-0-----------0--------------
you would play this
E-0---------0-----------------
A-------------5-4-3-2---------
D---5-4-3-2-------------------
G-----------------------------
heres some bass chords you can use to get started:
GMajor
E-3-----
A-2-----
D-0-----
G-0-----
to make it minor just flat your 3
Gminor
E----3--
A----1--
D----0--
G----0--
using that as a bar chord, heres some more
AM Am BM Bm CM
E-5---5---7---7---8-----------------------------------------
A-4---3---6---5---7-----------------------------------------
D-2---2---4---4---5-----------------------------------------
G-2---2---4---4---5-----------------------------------------
Heres a nice simple jazz chord for bass, Eb7M9.
I guess the new voicing would be Gb b5 b6 b7
E-12-
A-11-
D-12-
G-11-

This is propably way over the grey matter!!! :duck:

Sorry man but those tabs are wrong. I know thats kind of an a-hole thing to say since I am not posting any correct tabs, but If someone wants to know how to play any breakfast tune just let me know and I\'ll send you something via email or whatever. I\'d rather write it out longhand and scan it(faster).
I guess I will fix one thing:
Heather begins with a diminished triad.
So instead of this:
---------------------------------------------------------
---------9----9h10p9----9----------9----9-10-11-12-11-10-
-----10----10--------10---10----10---10------------------
--12-------------------------12--------------------------
---------------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------------------
it would be this:
---------------------------------------------------------
---------12----12h13p12----12----------12----12-13-14-15-14-13-
-----10----10-----------10----10----10----10------------------
--12-------------------------------12--------------------------
---------------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------------------
But I\'ve seen Tim play this and he doesn\'t play it on that set of strings, the notes are correct
but the first chord voicing that is used is this:
---7----------
---6----------
---7----------
------------
------------
-------------
Ant-Man, Tim usually uses major scales or pentatonic scales over the jams or when he solos.
Take the jam for Buquebus, it is in G minor. So tim will usually use G dorian (G,A,Bb,C,D,E,F) but
sometimes he\'ll use G natural minor (G,A,Bb,C,D,Eb,F), I think I\'ve actually heard him use Dorian
in the first jam and switch to Natural Minor in the second or vis versa.
Here are some chord progressions for some Breakfast Jams:
My Fav: Tribal Funk Affliction l B-7 / D-7 / l C#-7/ / /l / / / /l
Language of the Gods: l F#-9 / / / l / / / / l Emaj7 / / / l / / / / l -use E major(F# Dorian)
May Fly: G minor Jam, use G dorian or G natural minor
GBFBITS: I beleive this song is in E major so Tim uses E major pentatonic
,major pentatonic has that very happy country-esque sound so
if the jam is in E, Emaj Pent is (E,F#,G#,B, C#)

yea, that was an a-hole thing to say! ;)
I\'ll give you the diminished triad, but I gotta call you on the board possition. Heather is the way I figured it out and prefer to play it. Just because it\'s not on the same exact strings or position as he plays it, it\'s still in the correct octave range, so what\'s the difference? You\'re getting very picky to specify that something is wrong because it\'s the 2 fret on the b instead of the 16th fret of the A or 7th of the G, or 11 of the D, or (if you have it) the 22 of the low E. There are differences in tone and the way the note will retard, but it\'s still the same note. As long as you know your scales enough to get though the song without jumping all over, who really cares?
do you know spunk? Always wanted to learn that one but never bothered to sit down and transcribe it.
-
why am i awake?
-
Yeah, Here is the intro to spunk.
------------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------------------------
---------5----------------------------5----------------------------
--5-7-5----7-------------------5-7-5------------------------------
---------------5-6-7---3b--0------------5-6-7--3----0--4-5-6--2b--0-
---------------------------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------------------------------
-----------------------------------------------------------4-7---9-6-
---------7---------------------------------------------3-6-----------
--5-7-5---5----------------------------------------2-5---------------
---------------5-6-7--3----0----4-5-6--2---0--1-4-------------------
----------------------------------12---
----------------------------------12---
----------------------------------12---
--8-5----------------------------------
-------5---5--7~-----------------------
---------7-----------3b4r3--0----------
Then: (I think this is correct) (Tim plays this a little bit different everytime)
A-7 Ab-7 A-7 Ab-7
-----------------------------------------------------------
--2-4/5-------7-5\\4---2--4/5----7-7-5\\4-------------------
------------------------4-----------------------------------
-----------------------------------------------------------
-----------------------------------------------------------
-----------------------------------------------------------
This is from memory so it might be wrong
---8---5---2-------------------------------------------------
---7---4---1-------------------------------------------------
---8---5---2-------------------------------------------------
---7---4---1-------------------------------------------------
-----------------3-3-3-3---1-2-3---------------------------
----------------------------------0------------------------

If you look here http://www.thebreakfast.info/forum/showthread.php?t=3547 i have a few tabbed out or bits and pieces. have the chase on there, may be alittle off. tabbing on notepad gets monotonous
check out that thread, i have a few bits and pieces in there. chase and inner glimpse. there may be a few sloppy mistakes but its a pain in the ass using notepad to tab
