Dave Matthews is letting their fans vote for their next opening act vote fort the guys!!!!!
http://dmband.com/surveys/OpenerSurvey.asp (http://dmband.com/surveys/OpenerSurvey.asp)
-
The form defaults to a gender of female. Theres also a check box that you must be at least 13 years old. That\'s says alot about dmb.
the only good dmb= drunk monk bar. I used to like them when they first came out, but I can\'t stand the drunk teeniebop crowds.
-
I\'m not asking people to like them (I cetainly don\'t) just to vote this would be incredible exposure.
-
I am not a fan of the DMB and that is because of the fanbase. Its more about the party in the lot then the actual music. (actually sounds a little familiar)
I added it to the myspace blog and I will be sending it out with the event invites and bullentins I post this evening about Daniels Street on Saturday.
-
I was going to vote for the Bfast to open but think about it. How realistic is it? The Breakfast are not the kind of music a typical DMB fan would listen to and I gotta think that Dave is going to take that into consideration once he heard the guys.
Yeah The Bfast rip but they are waay to much for the DMB crowd.
Exposure would be decent for the most part but I think more of a waste of time than anything.
-
Jesus Leith........
It\'s always storm clouds and rain with you isn\'t it?
it couldn\'t hurt though right???
-
^^^^^ if think if anything it will bring in lots of new fans who Did appreciate it
-
Jesus Leith........

No not really. I am just realistic. 1st off when votes like this come up, The Bfast fanbase is waay to small to make noise(at least the ones that like to vote for this stuff).
The Bfast ARE too much for the DMB crowd(this is taken into consideration bigtime).
Besides alot of the DMB crowd could not even go to Bfast shows due to being under 18/21 so the thought of getting more fans is pretty useless.
Sure it would be fun for the guys to play on a big stage but that would be about it.
Vote to your heart\'s content though.
oh and if I am not clear enough on my stance,I was going to post about this yesterday as a joke and thought better of it.
-
Yeah because DMB fans really love Soulive, geesh.... This would be fucking awesome for the guys. Who fucking cares about DMB fans Leith, what you need to be thinking about is the incredible chunk of change that the boys would pull in. With money like that they could ter on the Left coast and make you one happy pappy. I say vote on!!!!
-

Soullive is ALOT easier on the ears of mainstream concert goers than The Bfast.
As for them using the $$ they would get to tour, that was funny.
-
I was dead serious Leith.
-
there\'s just no talking to you man....
I tell you what they\'d make a hell of alot more money than touring on their own
-
Exactly me!... Point is Ron and Jordan would have enough change in their pockets to quit their day job, but I guess the sensitive ears of pre-teens is more important than the pending success of Leith\'s favorite band...
-
You guys crack me up. Come on now. If I really thought this would happen I would be all over it. The fit is just not there.
Now forgive me for this but when TLG opened this past year for 2 big bands(Gov\'t Mule and Trey) the fit was tight. The audience was one that would be very receptive to their music and it has panned out w/ hundreds of people showing up for their shows in Colo. this month
I just don\'t see this as being a great fit is all. If it happens great but....
Also they won\'t make enough money to quit dayjobs unless they opened a few shows not on a one off.
Besides how will Tim fit it into his busy acoustic schedule?
-
But my point beign what harm is it gonna do to vote. none
and what harm is gonna do to not vote..... who knows but more than voting
-
Seriously Leith, why don\'t you just leave the board and lick Trevor\'s chode because I\'m sure MANY, MANY people are sick of your trite comparisons to TLG. There are many points I agree with you on Leith, but there are many I don\'t concerning this TLH affair. I really think you should take a second and think about the economics involved in these two bands. I\'ve said it once, I\'ll say it again. TLG came from money, TB=the Springsteen of the East Coast jam scene.
Your last sentence is just patronizing, but I still can\'t help but smile at the nugget of truth it certainly posseses.teeheehee

Hey let\'s not turn this into a TLG/Leith bash.
I am just saying the fit is not there. POINT BLANK
As for TLG coming from $$ you are just sadly mistaken and I\'ll leave it @ that. Oh no I won\'t. Take a look @ TLG\'s touring schedule for the past 4 years and you will see they are tour warriors who have earned every $ and fan they have.
-
If Vera St isnt meant for the DMB crowd then down must be up and black must be white. Trust me, with selective songs The Breakfast could win over almost any fan base.

lol No they can\'t but it\'s nice to think they could.
They do not have the dynamics as a band to win over almost any crowd. Hopefully with some more touring this year it will develop.
and to put to rest all the bitching I put The Breakfast down as the 5th band on my vote.
Fuckin\' Peer Pressure!
-
if you think those guys can\'t cater to nearly any market you need some schooling boy
I traveled with those guys for almost two years you\'d be very surprised.
You ony see them when they play to people that want the crazy shit
-

I think not.
I am sure they play well to a variety of crowds but to think they can play in a manner which would lend itself to a DMB crowd is silly in my opinion.
The Breakfast are a Rock Monster and have yet to learn the delicate touch of "not playing". I make it a point to listen to every show possible away from Ct. and it only reinforces my belief. I am hopeful from the structure of the new songs that they are learning this.
-
Yeah, maybe if Jordan played with his shirt off they could win over the DMB crowd....
-
The ONLY flaw I can find in Tim\'s playing.
Given the choice to play one note or none. Tim will play FIVE!
-
take a chance to get your favorite band exposed to thousands of potential fans
vs.
assume nobody would like them and move on
just vote leith, don\'t worry, it\'s anonymous... nobody will ever find out.
-

:) I was thinking they could just do a 45 minute Vera St>Message In A Bottle> Vera St> Rocking In The Free World
You never can tell though when it comes to picking openers. Dave may like the fact that the Breakfast are so different from him. He does not have to worry about direct competition and his fans may open up to some new music (or at least their parents might). Looking at the big picture any exposure would be helpful and maybe someone involved with Dave will catch wind of the band, realize they are not right for Dave but steer them in a beneficial direction (bonnaroo bookers etc.).
Jaded as he may be, you have to admit Leith has a couple of good points. I think the money is more likely to go towards replacing the next stolen piece of equipment or wrecked van than it is towards touring.;)

whatever happened to people enjoying amazing showmanship? Tim represents the spirit of the late 60\'s/early 70\'s/ He refuses to give up his rock star point of view, which is great except for no one else is really buying it, which I find very sad.... The boys should be hailed as noble knights keeping the antiqueted spirit of classic rock alive...

yeah, i didn\'t read the whole thread before I posted. Had I, I would have included that you\'re a real moron sometimes.
-
For a band that needs all the publicity it can get, we are quick to close the door on any possible exposure.
Who gives a shit if the fanbase isn\'t the same? The Breakfast are not your typical jamband and I truely think of them as a rock band 1st with funk fusion before I consider them a jam band (which is a generic genre in my opinion)
No need to force people to vote but if you are going to vote, vote Breakfast 1st and foremost.
Keep it positive people!!!

Yeah sometimes but what I want to know is how my opinion just because it differs makes me a moron?
I do believe i have a right to my opinion and it is that an opening slot for DMB is not that great a fit for The Bfast. It will do them some good if they get it but it is not going to launch them into the public eye as some posters seem to think.
-
My 5 bands went like this
1.The Breakfast
2.Mars Volta
3.Opeth
4.Slayer
5.Chick Corea
-
Scarecrow Collection
Tea Leaf Green
Ripplegroove
Animal Liberation Orchestra
The Breakfast
-
i voted for the breakfast and psychedelic breakfast and i think they would tear dmb to shreds if they were ever on stage with them.
-
Yeah sometimes but what I want to know is how my opinion just because it differs makes me a moron?
what makes you a moron, sometimes, is your ability to take a thread about supporting the band, for whom this site is constructed, and turning it into multiple digs on the band and more fucking TLG anus kissing.
Sure, I don\'t think tb has a chance in hell of winning this contest, but it didn\'t stop me from voting for them.
-

2.The Breakfast
3.The Breakfast
4.The Breakfast

my votes
1.The Breakfast
2.The Breakfast
3.The Breakfast
4.The Breakfast
5.The Breakfast
:that:
And it\'s not that I think they have a snowballs chance in hell, but getting their name in front of people with clout in the music industry can\'t hurt one frickin\' bit!!!!

dude the mars volta blow live.
and leith, i don\'t understand what your motive is in filling this thread with cynicism (sp?). i understand you are entitled to your opinion, and you have every right in the world to voice it, but i just dont see what purpose it serves in this particular case.

Hey why can\'t i have a bad day? Why does every post have to be pro Bfast?
I never said anything abt the band that is not true.
I just feel it is not a great fit.
I can think that and post that all I want to. I also posted in my posts that it could be a good thing I just don\'t think it is.
I personally think the guys would be better served just getting out on the road and showing what they have to offer. An opening gig unless it were multiple dates would give them some benefit in the city they played in and that\'s abt it.
-
yeah leith but it\'s not "a bad day"
we hear this shit from you all the time
-
yeah leith but it\'s not "a bad day"

What shit? an opposite viewpoint is shit? OK Nazi boy
-
heil breakfast!!
no negative shit about the band
-
Yeah OK
So the party line is this vote for The Breakfast to open for Dave.
No matter what. OK
I just think of the opposite side of negative reaction can do more damage then good. I can just see the meathead frat guys that tend to frequent DMB shows to p/u low self esteem teeny boppers not liking The Breakfast(as they have no musical taste in general) and spreading shit like " The Breakfast? dude I saw them open for Dave and they just jammed the same shit over and over and they can\'t sing. They played a cool message in a bottle though"
-
ok I will give you that but good people will see it too,
really I just want to see these guys make some $$$$$$
-
ok I will give you that but good people will see it too,

I think we all want to see them make some $$.
We just differ in how we think they could best acheive it.
-
the leith Chris banter :over:
:)
really though now that all that is over
go vote for the breakfast!!!
-
If I had a dollar for every time I have read a post of Leith\'s that includes "I believe I am entitled to my own opinion" or some variation thereof....
;)
-
Nice of you to through this out there chris, good to see you are thinking of the band :)
Spread the word my friends...and lets keep that word positive.
-
d00d Ty Cobb or whoever you are.... Maybe you couldn\'t tell but all of my picks below The Breakfast were complete and utter jokes......... BRAH
-

So basically, your saying that Umphreys McGee is about to become the next Dave Matthews Band!
-
By your logic Spacey The Roots would be the next Dave Matthews Band. Dave was referring to a band that started out alongside with The Breakfast back in 01-02, and was able to work their way into a dream slot. As an UM fan I\'ve kept my mouth shut on this one.. I\'m really happy for the band, but this is going to worsen the already moral decline of the fanbase.

Your definitely right about the decline in the fanbase a coming.
