Title: Sicko made me ill
Post by: leith on November 01, 2007, 06:14:23 pm
This movie is one of Moore\'s best as it really shows the hypocrisy in this country.
It is just ridiculous how accepted it is in this country that our Health Care system cannot afford to be socialized.
How this country is so ass backwards when it comes to caring for it\'s own.
More concerned with $$ than care.

:sigh:

Not even going to touch this one. I think everyone knows how I feel about Michael Moore.

Oh Wah wah. How can you hate on him? No matter his personal faults he has the balls to make films that consistently put the status quo to task and makes you actually think before accepting what is fed to you.

I think Michael Moore is slimeball.

I really don\'t want to get into a lengthy political debate, but:

As far as this issue goes, I do not want to invite the idea of living in a socialist country, especially in an age when businesses are so mobile they can pack up and head for lower tax and regulation nations before Michael Moore can say "sicko" 10 times.  I do not believe the government is good at solving problems in an efficient way.  In fact, it downright sucks most of the time.  In addition, we really cannot continue to allow the 3rd world to pour into our country and believe an expanded welfare state will not cause financial disrepair (yes, I\'m aware of the argument, "how can we fight expensive wars and not pay for healthcare?").

You should check this one out. He really does a great job of going straight to the source and focusing on actual cases. There is a bit of political rhetoric but this film is mostly putting the facts on the table and showing the exact reason we do not have health care and that is the capitalist way the health care system has been built on.

It shows just how much the HMO Lobby movement squashed any way for a viable national health care system to be established. All the lies spouted about sub par care, long lines, and personal choice of doctors are plain to see.

So I finally watched this last night.

Check your pulse if this movie doesn\'t make you sick to your stomach.
And check your worldview if you still think badly of Michael Moore after watching this.

Its really a shame that a lot of people won\'t even watch this because Sean Hannity told them they should hate Michael Moore.

Yeah Hannity is my reason for disliking Michael Moore. Come on now, I can\'t even bring myself to listen to Hannity, much less get my opinions from him.

I came to my conclusions about him on my own, after having seen his movies, read one of his books, and listened to numerous interviews with him where he does a great job of making me hate him all on his own.

Aww Jocelyn, you know I wasn\'t picking on you... good lord I should know better than that by now ;)

But I do think Michael Moore gets the shaft of the mainstream media. My comment was actually aimed at this woman who came over my house a couple days ago, saw the movie sitting on the counter, and said...

"Ohhhh Michael Moore... doesn\'t he have sort of a reputation??"

And I found that to be an ignorant ass comment because she didn\'t even know what his reputation was!

Even if I often disagree with your politics I would hardly call you ignorant or misinformed :)

Yup. She sounds like an idiot.

I am slowly learning that when people start a conversation like that it is best to just ignore them. Unless you are having a bad day and feel like letting off some steam...

Yeah I was on my way out the door so it worked out well.

But for real I bet if you watch Sicko you will hate Michael Moore just a little bit less

I understand people\'s issues with Moore. I appreciate his approach very much, though, because his goal is always to inform and improve life for Americans in the dark. He\'s an American working for the American working class. I liked Bowling For Columbine a lot and thought Sicko was morbidly fantastic. I think it\'s a shame people shrug it off as invalid because they hate Michael Moore. And it\'s always either "love" or "hate" the guy. I just like him and am happy someone is out there exposing grand schemes in the average-joe\'s language. Not to mention he actually makes shit happen.. Remember when he literally got Wal-Mart to pull ALL of their bullets off their shelves nationwide? What a tragedy......
