lol yeah sorry na\' gonna happen.
I like building with Legos, not throwing kings on unsturdy thrones.
If you haven\'t seen the Celtics yet, you and your team are in for a very rude awakening from these guys. 98-0: 95 to go. Cue the fear.

Those Celtics keep on rolling.
Did you think 1 year ago that they would start out 6-0 with Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett playing alongside Paul Pierce?
HA What happens when these Celtics actually play a good team? They lose!
The Lakers are playing some good ball on a 3 game winning streak and getting ready for a tough 3 game road trip.
Oh boy I cannot wait until this Friday in Boston.

Last I checked Denver was 7-3 and the Celtics buried em good and hard.
Orlando is looking reeeeal good and beat them by only 2 at home.
Boston will destroy LA. Pending a God-like Kobe performance (which I guess is always possible).
All I\'m saying is the Celtics are the real deal. If they don\'t suffer any injuries they\'ll run away with the East.
btw, I\'m a Bulls fan. No bias for the BC\'s.
what? would a 30-point victory have been enough to convince you? LA NEVER had a chance and ARE CLEARLY not on Boston\'s level. i agree that the tits of the NBA are still San Antonio and Phoenix. yes, i think the west is the best. but the Lakers are absolutely mediocre regardless of their conference. boston is good enough to toy with a team like the Lakers, which is exactly what it looked like to me all game. once again, i have no bias here. boston is the real deal.

I turned this game on towards the end just to see how bad it was going to turn out. Wow! The Knicks are by far the saddest sports team out there. From top management all the way down to the players and fans, they\'re pathetic.
Bulls have now won 3 of 4, only losing to Dallas by 5. However, Boston will be in town tomorrow night.

Anyone still not sold on Boston? leith?
Boston barely beat a shitty Seattle team last night. We\'ll see how a West road trip actually affects them.
Lakers with 75 points in the first half tonight against Utah. Second half should be a lot of rest for the guys to ready them to beat Boston down on Sunday.
Boston will be coming off a game the night before on a road trip as the Lakers did but the Lakers will not have had 3 days of rest as the celtics did in their first meeting this year.
Should be a good game.

Should be. The Lakers are hot, no doubt. Hopefully this one will come down to the final minute. I\'m excited to watch it.
Short shorts.... are you fucking kidding me? Not in a game this big.
The Celtics just completed a 4-0 west coast trip against Sacramento, Seattle, Utah, and the Lakers. And they did it playing 4 games in 5 nights. No eastern team EVER goes 4-0 on the west coast playing 4 times in 5 nights. They are now 8-0 against the Western Conference and a simply frightening 25-3 overall.
The west\'s midgrade teams (Utah and Lakers) had little chance even playing at home against a road-weary Celtics team. But as we all know, the heavy hitters of the west (Spurs, Suns, and Mavs) have not yet had their chance to prove themselves against the Celtics. We\'ll see if those teams can hang. If they can\'t then there\'s really nobody left to stop the Celtics.
Kobe has no chance of carrying that sorry squad even if he were interested...and he\'s not interested. Too bad the Lakers shit the bed at the exact same time the Celtics got nasty.Uh what year is it?
!
[
The big 3 cannot sustain that team. They have no center and unless that Rondo kid plays like that all the time(I don\'t know I don\'t watch them), the big 3 will get worn. The celtic bench is decent at best.

I\'m gonna post just so leith doesn\'t feel like he\'s talking to himself... lol
Just got home from atttending Celtics-Spurs and was at Celts-Clips on Wednesday. The Celtics, without their two biggest players (Garnett and Perkins, no to mention 7-foot Scott Pollard who was also out), just beat defending champs Duncan and San Antonio and never trailed in the second half. The "superior" Western Conference is now an impressive (are you sitting down?) 0-16 against the Celtics. Most notably, of course, the Lakers at 0-2. I told you these Western teams would have to prove themselves against Boston. Not one of them has pulled out even one win. Big Baby Davis and Leon Powe (our scrub forwards) held Duncan down while Pierce lit up the scoring end.
So, if the Celtics have the best record in the East...and nobody in the West can beat them for even one game...it looks like we\'re headed to banner #17! Not a moment too soon either; now that the Patriots lost, I\'ve been waiting a whole 4 months for a championship around here!

Not for nothing, but Jordan Farmer just seems to hit shot after shot after shot.
...and to their credit, without Bynum, Mihm and Ariza the Lakers haven\'t even played with their full lineup yet.
Lamar has a shitty night and it\'s not even a problem. Luke all of sudden remembers how to score and Kobe just exerted his will in the 4th.
Denver hide your women!

Why are you a Lakers fan?
The Celtics game angered me. They played like their regular season record and star power alone would be winning them the series so they didn\'t have to play hard. They definately didn\'t show even a glimpse of being the defensive team they have been all season. That being said, they will win the next two at home and close it out. Joe Johnson was amazing last night, but he can\'t do it night in, night out
On the Lakers note, Kobe Bryant continues to amaze me. I know that I am :deadhorse but when its all said and done he could definately be considered as good or better than Jordan. That fadeaway he made last night against Kenyon Martin was ridiculous.

I am a huge MJ detractor. The fact his last shot will always show him clearly committing a foul on the push off is wonderful to me.
I give the guy props for being almost as good as Magic Johnson but he changed the game from a team game to a me game.
With all that said. I agree Kobe does not touch MJ but if he wins say 3 more in his career? I think a stronger argument could be made.

Anyway I found this awesome to read.
Larry Bird on the Dan Patrick Show yesterday:
Indiana Pacers president and NBA legend Larry Bird was on the Dan Patrick Show this morning, and the subject of clutch performers came up.
Patrick asked Larry Legend if Kobe’s ability to hit big shots rivaled Michael Jordan.
Bird responded with this:
"Well, I think Kobe is the best player in our league, and I think he\'s been the best player for a long time. Not to take anything away from anyone else.
Somebody told me the other day that he hasn\'t won an MVP trophy, that sorta made me feel like I wanted to throw mine away. That\'s how much respect I have for the guy.
He\'d be the guy that I would want with the ball when the game is on the line."

tonight\'s game was pretty miserable. the scoreboard says 5 points, but it wasn\'t really that close at all. lakers came out on fire, but that died quickly when fisher got 2 fouls in the first 2 minutes of the game. pretty much all jazz from there. seemed like every time gasol touched the ball we was just yelling and turning it over. every time the lakers cut the lead to 5 or 3 points, you\'d blink and it was 9. tough one.
[
The Celtics are likely to face a resurgent Lebron at home tomorrow. The guy has not been a factor yet and that can\'t last for long.

thanks leith, for taking my call, when pitchie REFUSED to watch his team win the game in real time.
great game. close, but the jazz never led.
that said, i still think this one is going 7.
Between both rounds the Lakers have had 4 or more days off while the celts have had to bust ass to beat the Hawks and Cavs.
Anyone that thinks the celts will beat anyone in the NBA Finals in less than 7 games is delusional at best.
I like Piece (obviously for the Kansas connection), but I\'m definitely rooting for Detroit. Let\'s not give Boston fans another sport to brag about.
Celtics in 4 over Pistons.
I wish for all of you poor sports fans stuck in other cities or rooting for other teams that you could be a Boston fan. It really is a blast. I will welcome you with open arms, even the New York fans. It\'s already been 5 championships and a perfect season in the books and there\'s a lot more to come in the next 3-5 years. Just wow. In the last seven months (all in just seven months!) I\'ve gotten to attend all 3 major teams playing winner-take-all games at home and watched my teams go 3-0 in those games (Game 7 2007 ALCS at Fenway Park, Game 7 Cavs-Celts at Garden, and 2008 AFC Championship at Gillette, not to mention 2004 AFC championship as well) and also got to the greatest Super Bowl ever. I guess this stuff has kind of replaced Phish for me in a way. Between this stuff and The Breakfast being amazing I couldn\'t ask for anything more from my fandom life. I\'m in love with life.
Celtics in 4 over Pistons.
Good times.
I don\'t remember the bragging being too much when the sox sucked and the celtics and bruins were nowhere on the map; basically early 90\'s until 2004.
Let\'s not talk about NJ - we gave the world the music of Springsteen, Sinatra, Paul Simon, Bon Jovi, George Clinton, Danzig, Thr Four Seasons, Whitney Houston, Ice T, Dion Warwick, Bernie Worrell, Trey Anastasio and Page McConnell. You guys can manufacturer sports, but we provide the music!
Oh and boston got tired of folks laughing at them I guess huh?
definitely got away with one tonight! i wasn\'t happy about kobe driving to the hoop with about :30 to play and a full :24, but heading back to LA 3-1? i\'ll take it.
she used to book her for talent gigs when she was based out of SF.

Quote from: Gordo;191485

Correctomundo. Celtics over Lakers in 6!
I really thought tonight\'s game might be fixed when, after 6 or 7 consecutive horrible calls against the Celtics, Paul Pierce got called for an offensive foul while standing still and shooting a 3. I really can\'t believe the Celtics came back and won after all of that. It just goes to show that if it weren\'t for Doc Rivers and the refs, the Celtics really had a 15 point better group of players than the Pistons.
Well, the Celtics have a 4-10 point better team on the floor than the Lakers, but that may not be enough to overcome Doc plus the refs giving Kobe every call. The NFL equivalent of Phil Jackson vs. Doc Rivers would be Bill Belichick vs. Art Shell. It has to be the greatest coaching mismatch in NBA finals history, and Doc Rivers has to be the worst coach ever to coach in a finals in any pro sport. His use of Cassell over House, or benching Ray Allen in the fourth quarter tonight when he was the hottest guy on the court in the first half...its unfathomable.
But regardless, I think the Lakers are at a severe disadvantage because leith likes them so much. That\'s always a huge handicap for any team or band. That alone swings my pick from Celtics in 7 to Celtics in 6. This is gonna be fun! Let\'s get it on!
So I called R.J. Bell of Pregame.com who is really good at number crunching, to ask him how much Vujacic cost those that took the Spurs. Bell said that, from looking at betting data he had access to, that 66 percent of people took the Spurs and the 7.5 points or 8 points.
Bell estimates that the game did about $3 million in bets in Las Vegas, but he estimates that worldwide, the game did about $300 million in action. Bell said that, when considering the line move, that shot swung at least $100 million in bets.

At least I don\'t root for a team where the cool thing to do as a fan is show up halfway through the second quarter and leave early to beat traffic. The people I know who are fans of the Lakers would DESPISE that from any other team yet they support the franchise most notorious for this behavior and lump themselves in with their lowly fans.

How is Devo gonna perform while the Lakers are playing:

I think most of the readers of this thread probably have me on ignore by now, which I can\'t blame them for. I\'ve been doing nothing but hardcore ballbreaking without any game analysis or personal experiences since the Finals started. If I were someone else then I would have stopped reading me in this thread too. There was some good stuff after game 7 against the cavs and after the line for tickets to the finals, but it\'s obvious I\'ve been mailing in the posts during the Finals. I don\'t know...I\'ve been fired up to go out and watch the games but not to write about them. I think I might be reeling from the Super Bowl still, knowing that I don\'t feel like going back to that level of posting and that this championship definitely does not exist in a vaccuum, but rather is a vital part of a greater recovery process that Boston fans need to have go right.

It\'s about time we clinch a championship IN Boston!
Why the Lakers Are NBA Stars
By ALLEN BARRA
June 17, 2008; Page D9
History says the Los Angeles Lakers can\'t win the 2007-2008 NBA championship. The Lakers, down three games to two in the best of seven series, must win tonight and Thursday to become the first team in league history to come back from a 3-1 deficit in the finals. But no matter who wins, the Boston Celtics -- though they have won eight of 10 championship series with Los Angeles -- will still be chasing the Lakers in the eyes of most basketball fans.
That may seem unfair to Boston followers; after all, the Celtics met the Lakers in eight finals between 1959 and 1984 -- and won all of them. Lakers fans, though, regard that as ancient history. Since 1987, the Lakers have appeared in the playoffs in every season but two, winning five titles to the Celtics\' zero.
Many Laker-haters are quick to write off the team\'s success to the city they play in. The Lakers have the town to themselves, some argue. There\'s no professional sports competition -- the Dodgers haven\'t won a World Series in two decades and Los Angeles doesn\'t even have an NFL franchise. How could a team with all that glamour and money, they ask rhetorically, not be a winner?
So the argument goes. It presupposes that having movie stars sitting courtside guarantees a playoff spot, and that a huge revenue base guarantees a winner. But the latter notion is quickly dispelled if you compare the Lakers to their crosstown rivals, the Clippers, who have been battling the Lakers for home-crowd support since 1984-85, their first season in Los Angeles. Actually, "battling" is not quite the word; in their 24 seasons in the City of Angels, the Clippers, with the same potential resources as the Lakers, have a winning percentage of just .352 and have made the NBA playoffs only four times. The Lakers over that period have had the highest won-lost percentage in the league, .650, and have been in the playoffs 22 times.
The contrast between the two teams couldn\'t be greater. The Lakers have been the premiere franchise in the NBA over that time span, while the Clippers have been the worst. In fact, the Lakers can claim to be a great deal more than that. They have been the NBA\'s flagship franchise during the league\'s boom years. The NBA\'s fortunes began to skyrocket when Earvin "Magic" Johnson came to Los Angeles from Michigan State in 1979 -- or, as some historians think, when Kareem Abdul-Jabbar came to the Lakers from the Milwaukee Bucks in 1975.
In any event, the Lakers, paced by those two future Hall of Famers, redefined sports glamour in the television age with a celebrity fan list that includes Jack Nicholson, Dyan Cannon, Denzel Washington and Leonardo DiCaprio; a knockout cheerleading squad, the Laker Girls ("American Idol" judge Paula Abdul used to be one); and a legendary announcer, the late Chick Hearn, who broadcast 3,338 consecutive Lakers games from 1965 through December 2001 and in the process contributed such phrases to the American lexicon as "Putting up a brick" (for a bad shot) and "Slam dunk!" (no definition needed).
Of course, the Lakers did not win because Jack and Dyan were rooting them on: The celebs came because they won. Since their first NBA championship in 1950, when they were the Minneapolis Lakers -- in case you were wondering where the team\'s name came from -- they\'ve been the winningest team in American professional sports, the New York Yankees and the Boston Celtics not excepted.
Since 1960, the Lakers have finished under .500 only seven times. In comparison, the Yankees, the most famous winner in American sports, have gone under .500 10 times since 1960 and the Boston Celtics, though they won an amazing 11 championships in the 13 seasons from 1956-1969, have dipped below the mediocrity line 14 times since 1970.
Perhaps half of the professional basketball players best known to the American public over the past five decades have been Lakers: Elgin Baylor, Jerry West, Wilt Chamberlain, Gail Goodrich, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Magic Johnson, Shaquille O\'Neal, and this year\'s MVP, Kobe Bryant, to skim just the cream from the top. The kinetic Pat Riley and Zen-like Phil Jackson, winners of a combined seven titles with the Lakers, exemplify the two polar opposites of basketball coaching.
There\'s no secret as to why this season\'s NBA finals are getting a substantial boost over last year\'s: The Lakers are playing. Yes, it has much to do with the storied rivalry between Boston and Los Angeles, but the Celtics, good as they are, have not won a championship since 1986 and are not the attraction to viewers in the South, the Midwest or even New York that the Lakers are. Except for the glorious aberration of the Michael Jordan years in Chicago, no NBA team has even approached the Lakers\' appeal.
The simple truth is that regardless of the outcome of tonight\'s game, as the Lakers go, so goes the NBA.

enormous disappointment.

Look out world, here come the Celtics!
I\'m giddy because tix went on sale yesterday and I got pairs to see the mighty Celtics against the Suns, Spurs, Nuggets, and Bulls. Championship #17, here we come!
[ To leith, hey, the Chargers suck and are owned by the Pats, the Lakers suck and are owned by the Celtics, the Padres just plain suck, and most of all, you are the man.
I\'ll say. What was this, Red Sox v. Rockies? Bring on a real opponent! Geez, at least make us earn it.

Laker fans had such a great year as we started the year wondering just where this team would be at this time and any Laker fan that says they would not have taken this result at the beginning of the year is a liar.
We watched the development of one of the best benches in the league and this team transformed into the type of Laker team we can all be proud of.
Laker fans have so much to look forward to with a full year with Gasol and Bynum coming back. Kobe has changed his game to become the leader we have been waiting for him to develop into and we still have the best coach there ever was.
It may not seem like it at this moment but it is a great time to be a Laker fan.

This article did nothing to assuage the pain I feel. Except for this line:
"The simple truth is that regardless of the outcome of tonight\'s game, as the Lakers go, so goes the NBA."
In that line stands the reason I take this loss easier than a fan of the celts if they had lost. The NBA is The Lakers and one just has to look at the NBA Logo to see it.
Congratulations to the Boston Celtics and their fans. Enjoy it while you can but do not for a moment think this means the celtics have returned to prominence.
Enjoy this year Seth you will never experience another like it in your life.

Now, I don\'t ever want to hear a Boston fan, whether it be a Red Sox, Patriot or Celtic fan talk about a Yankee fan being cocky when we talk about our 26 World Championships.

Because of one comment made by Seth? Really?
So he speaks for all of us?
Enjoy this year Seth you will never experience another like it in your life.
CELTICS RULE!!! I called banner #17 in post #1 of this thread! Yaaaaaaa!

Actually, yeah, you are absolutely correct, and I haven\'t been disappointed, but if I end up moving to Boston i like the idea that there will be some of the same, though probably not as big a percentage as Boulder
this could be the rilalry renewed for the next 3-5 years, i think it will be the same teams in the finals next year
go celts

[David Stern] nearly screwed [The Celtics] over by not annulling the Gasol trade...
Maggette to the Warriors.
Brand to the 76ers.
Baron Davis...tough break guy. Looks like he better forget signing with the Clippers today and instead go back to the Warriors.

Meanwhile, former Celtic Kevin McHale handing Kevin Garnett to his former teammate and Celtics GM Danny Ainge for next to nothing is OK. How does this guy have a nationally-published column? He should be writing for a Boston sports love-fest website hosted by GeoCities.
