Title: A New Beginning
Post by: davepeck on February 06, 2007, 07:56:46 am
@ A NEW BEGINNING

Maybe its emotional bliss like the
Most incredible feeling you can ever have
Lasting forever and nothing else but that
Maybe it's nothing at all like the
Feeling you had before you were born
Energy will never die so you better
Tune into the force that created life
And all remember that

Death's a new beginning in the grand scheme of things

Reborn into a new life
Be it anything that's sentient or in the wild
Nice thought to get a life
Deserving from the one you had
Heaven & Hell can't really exist will an
Animal go to hell if it is bad
On earth we're all just creatures born from this land and it's a
'bout time we fess up to the truth
And all remember that

Death's a new beginning in the grand scheme of things

I don't want to go

Death's a new beginning in the grand scheme of things

I like these lyrics. I can see newbs confusing this song with scheme \'cause of the lyrics, but whatever, they\'ll figure it out. As for the music, it\'s pretty decent. nothing that ser, but I think its got potential. Future Peak wasn\'t always the jam vehicle that its getting to be now, and i can see this song going in the same direction.

Ok, lemme explain... it WAS played in Seracuse, but i went out for a cigarette within the first 30 secs. of it bc it didn\'t capture my attention long enough for me to have wanted to stick around to hear more.  Hence, the *meh* ;)

I listened to the Cuse recording at work today....

well, lyrically, I like it.

Musically, it just seems really simple. I think its going to take quite a bit to make this a ser jam vehicle ala Future Peek. If they have no intention of ever expanding this song, thats cool. But it would also be one of the simplest songs they have.

Its not a bad song, but bland for my tastes and certainly not the kind of epic concepts I hope The Breakfast will return to writing.

But as with many other Breakfast songs that aren\'t among my favorites, they can work really well at certain points in certain setlists with certain vibes and among certain crowds nonetheless.

The song was a song Tim was working on some time back.  It\'s working title was "Death".  The song is Tim exploring the mystery of death......I guess after Gia\'s passing it inspired him to work on and complete the song.....

I personally like the tune and think it works well with the other songs in Tim\'s Episode saga as it is the last or second to last song in the saga........

Well after reading the lyrics, I am looking forward to hearing the song. I like the lyrics, with the exception of the line "will an
Animal go to hell if it is bad"

I think that could have been said a little more eloquently. But whatever.

tim played it at richters the other night.  i found it quite *touching* in a, well, tim sort of way and i mean that nicer than it sounds ... as far as ballads go (how far is that?), it was *cute* ... er ... catchy ... sentimental not too whiney :)

I like this song alot.

Post by: Buquebus on February 07, 2007, 11:55:18 am
fwiw, this shit ain\'t a so called "ballad", it\'s just a good song. ballads are usually borderline cheesey love songs... just another texture to throw into a set, fuck around with some emotions and whatnot.. the overall wave of feelings that occurs when one listens to the seracuse recording, and they just bounce back into this raucous and debauchery that is tab00.  it is wonderful.  I got to say I am all about this "newer" direction in songwriting.. It seems to just happen as artists/people grow:inky:

Thank You Gabe. Tim needs to continue to mature as a songwriter and writing tunes w/o all the fast changes and mass notage to reach his full potential. I read a post that said this song if unchanged would be one of their most simple songs. That was posted as a bad thing it seemed and I see it the direct opposite way.
Songs like this can only help alleiviate the stigma of this just being a wank fest jammy jamband that rocks face only.

Post by: booztravlr on February 07, 2007, 01:38:39 pm
^ i believe wankfest is one word.

i def enjoyed this song in cuse and felt it was nicely placed midset. this is, by no means, a set opener, closer, or encore song. i feel this song is perfect for the middle of a rocking set or right before some crazy sandwich so the band can rest up for a few minutes, similar to how good things is used.

Yeah, we talked about it for a long while last week. He read me the lyrics, and with everything that\'s happened the last month, I think it\'s appropriate and moving. I have yet to hear the tune as played in Syracuse, but even if you don\'t like the music, the words can definitely speak for themselves. Hopefully turning things down a notch will only make them mature further with their songwriting. I mean hey, it\'s worth a try. It\'s not like every single note the guys play has to or should be some shredding, epic thing.

and, to me, that\'s exactly what it sounds like - the gentle settling down after a crazy trip, the summation of a journey, the final deep breath after a serious meditation.

i like it! i like the maturity it shows. i like its simplicity (seriously, think of it in context of other episodes and its a good counter-point) and its sing-song-y-ness. i think it would make a great encore after the right show - something easy to grasp after having your mind twisted. and i don\'t think it should ever become a jam vehicle. not every song needs to be.

Just listened to the Stone Church version and overall I digget.
Definitely not a high energy breakfast song, but they sure do have a bunch of those.  In fact I would say they could use more mellow songs, cause sometimes I just can\'t dance for 3 hours straight.  and it is definitely rather catchy.  I would like to see how it develops over time w/ more stagetime and whatnot.  Overall though it\'s a good tune

is this tune the conclusion to the Grand Scheme of Things? Like the sequel to the song or something I heard. I\'ve yet to hear it live but should get my dose very soon.

Stoned Church version sounds better than whatever the first one I listened to.

T\'was the difference between not really liking it and now I do like it.

I def like the song. If the stone church version was put up for everyone im sure they would change there mind. The song is new and def has room for improvement, but like all breakfast albums there are a few slow songs that timmy can use as a PME. Its got a new melody from all the other songs like it and it has a great ending, with plenty of room for jam.

I\'m listening to the Stone Church version now.  Yeah, it could use some more juice in parts.  At this point, I can\'t see myself getting excited when they start playing it at the next show I attend.

For the most part I like the lyrics. They manner they are sung is a little odd though.

The Chorus is extremely catchy. That one line has the potential to get stuck in your head for a long time.

The jam can be quite tasteful.

Overall B+.

Ronnie singing "IIIIIIIIII don\'t wanna to go" at the saint must have been pretty emotional for anyone who was paying attention at the time. It\'s sad just listening to the tapes. At the same time interesting how songs sometimes take on different meanings at different times.

is there a version up on any radio joe shows? i listened to it awhile back, once, and have forgotten what it sounds like. probably the only tune that theyve debuted and immediately collected dust for me. i remember feeling... well... indifferent i guess.

I have listened to it this track from the sully\'s show many many times the last few days and thinking about death too. It really is a great track.  Would make for an amazing reprise at the end of a killer show too with just the chorus and instrumental hook considering the overall shortness of the song and the epicness of those two parts together, and maybe I don\'t wanna go in there as well.  Don\'t need to hear the lyrics twice but bringing back the hook at the right moment could be really choice.

Just thinking about this song for no reason in particular. Daniel St. acoustic comeback? It is a part of the big ol\' Buquebus thing, so I imagine that it will have to be played again eventually.

Ive had this song stuck in my head the past couple of days and it is deff a catchy song in a slow kinda way and I really like it.  This song would be sick to hear in the middle of a crazy set..

Was just listening to the aforementioned Saint show and this song is just so good. This would be a killer change of pace tune, epic anthem that is catchy. I guess its all been said before but I\'d love to see this one make a comeback. I don\'t think Chris or Jordan has played on this one.
