Well, this is actually Yankees-related. Their having Randy Johnson makes me want to cry. It\'s not fair! *whine whine whine*
-
They can have him. Manny Ramirez, David Ortiz, Trot Nixon, Kevin Millar, all fast ball hitters. Bring it on Big Unit!
-
Yeah I know but I really do think though that a Randy Johnson as what they were missing from their lineup last year, and it really hurt them.
-
Last night on Sports Center Schill said that he can\'t wait until he bets Randy in the Bronx...

I\'m just glad you Sox fans have your own thread to cry your sorrows away when you realize last year was a fluke ;)
"Wait \'till next year," might as well start saying it again
-
Pitchie with the Subway Series II prediction, very bold my friend, very bold. Beware the Padres. . .
-
It\'s now the eighth inning of the first game of 2005. The score is 8-1 Yankees and worsening. Instead of watching the exciting finish I have departed for home.
Everything is back to normal.
Yankees magic number = 161 to clinch a tie.
Wait \'till next year.

Hey, if it didn\'t take five tries to beat us once, maybe you would have won the World Series last year. :drew:

WORLD SERIES
Yankees over Mets
Time for my annual how-it-will-happen!
Game 7 Yankees/Mets at the Death Star (Yankee Stadium). Pedro starts for the Mets. Goes through 7 scoreless innings despite incessant "Who\'s Your Daddy" chants. Bottom of the eighth, Mets up 6-0, and the earth stops turning as Willie Randolph trots out Pedro for the eighth. Womack pops out to start the inning. Then Jeter doubles, Williams singles, Matsui doubles and Posada doubles to make it 6-3. Incredibly, Randolph sticks with Pedro... who proceeds to retire Giambi and Sierra. Bottom nine, still 6-3 Mets. Looper promptly loads the bases. Heredia relieves him and strikes out Jeter and Williams. One out away, Heredia gets Matsui to ground weakly to first. But Piazza has it go under his glove, and everyone moves up a base. Now 6-4 Mets and still one out away, Heredia walks Posada to make it 6-5, walks Giambi to make it 6-6, then gives up a grand slam to Sierra and the Yankees win the Series.

Yankees sweep Sox this year. Confirmed.
-
It is way over. Look out for Godzilla this year. One of the best all around players. Confirmed.
-
Seth, the only thing you forgot is that Mike Stanton, who the Mets traded for Heredia, gets the win for the Yankees in Game 7. Despite the Mets obvious offseason bonanza, I disagreed with the Stanton-Heredia trade and feel that Felix should have been cut after his awful spring. Suffice to say, if that no-control 6.00 ERA southpaw piece of shit is still on the roster come October, the World Series is one place the Mets will not be. But first things first: Pedro, Beltran debut vs. former Met prodigy, Paul Wilson.
-
I\'m pulling for a Sox championship. . .in 2015, I\'ll let you have just one more ten years from now. Only because 50 years from now when my grandkids are chanting at the Sox/Yanks game, I\'d rather hear them chant something that sounds better than 2004, like "twenty fifteen".

BAAAAAASEBALL is BACK!!! I LOVE this time of year. Everyone has a chance AND every fan is talkin\' shit. I just got my tix for the Padres opening day(Thurs.) and going tomorrow to the Angels opening day!

come one guys, BOSTON OWNS. matsui may be "the best all around player" but not when it counts. I got one word ORTIZ. as long as hes on the team, we\'re set. the yankees pitchers piss their pants when he goes up. don\'t get too cocky yankees fans, just get ready for another disapointing year.

the Mets are looking pretty sharp, I must say.. Esp. when they got Petey out there mowing them down.

Anyone catch C. Biggio on Rome is burning today? Talk abt a refreshing interview. Asked abt reaching 3000 hits and if he was near would he keep playing just to get 3000. He said he would for his family, for the Houston Community, AND FOR BASEBALL. How abt that? A player that remembers that the game itself is an important tradition that should be respected.
-
ok i know this is only the 3rd game of the season, but this whole Mo thing is becoming way too familiar. it\'s early; too early to tell the severity of it, but these last 2 days have been ugly.
sure, a-rod makes a routine play and the yankees win, but the bases should have never been loaded.
-
Def. should have gotten rid of riveria last season, but, guess what? no wants his pathetic ass. if he is the best closer the yanks can get, we are going to see a lot of come from behinds if the game is close.

Love it. How about Error Renteria?
-
Good thing Rivera is done and the entire organization has a blind spot for him, else Sox would have been swept. That could be the difference, it sure was last year. What I want to know is how the Red Sox got into a situation where their shortstop and left fielder are fatter than their first baseman and catcher.

Pedro says Red Sox can keep ring
New York Mets ace Pedro Martinez fired plenty of early-season shots at his former team, the Boston Red Sox, in particular lashing out against what he perceives as a trashing of his reputation as a villain during a long interview with the Boston Herald.
“Because I didn’t let Theo (Epstein) or the Red Sox decide my life, my future, I’m a bad man now,” said Martinez, who gave up three hits and struck out 12 but had a no-decision in the Mets\' 7-6 defeat to the Cincinnati Reds on Monday. “Judging from what I’ve seen, and what I’ve read and what I’ve heard, that’s how I’m being portrayed.
“I did my job. I think I did that all seven years I was there. Everyone seems to have forgotten about that. A lot of the fans probably remember, but they’re selling me as a negative. I’m not saying all the fans. But some have forgotten.”
Martinez also told the Herald he doesn\'t care if he gets his World Series ring from last year\'s championship team.
“If they want to keep the ring, that’s fine,” he said. “I just know I contributed to that team to win, and I’m proud of it. They can never erase what I did in Boston. Most important, I had a job in Boston for seven years, and I appreciate that. And that’s the most important thing. I had a job, and I did what I had to do in my job. Every time I could pitch, I did. Hurting, or not hurting.”
Martinez also told the newspaper that he understood Red Sox general manager Theo Epstein\'s decision not to offer him enough to stay, but that he didn\'t like how he was characterized as a Boston bad boy.
“I’m not going to take back what I said. I wanted to stay in Boston. Hearing Theo talk today on ESPN, saying they wanted to spread my money around, and keep Jason, that’s a smart thing to do. He could afford to get rid of all of us, except Jason. I can appreciate that, but there was no need to mistreat my name.
“I can understand the business part of it. I can understand, I can live with the business part of it, not being able to afford me, or thinking I’m not that good, but I cannot understand the part where you mistreat my name, or mistreat what I did for the city of Boston because they have to build another image of me.
Martinez, a three-time Cy Young Award winner, said that he is enjoying being a Met.
“I think I’m starting to settle in as a player, as a teammate, and also about the way we’re going to play the game,” he told the Boston Herald. “Other parts are yet to be seen, how I’m going to fit in New York. I don’t know how the response is going to be. I’m just really concentrated on doing my job, really giving my team the opportunity I hope I can give them.
“I’m trying to have fun along the way. I’m not going to let the same thing happen to me again, where I’m going to corner myself in Boston, and not have a chance to enjoy the city, and have a response from the people, and let them get close to me.
“I couldn’t trust anyone (in Boston). I was such a big icon in Boston,” Martinez added. “Everything I did, even driving my car, was scary. So I’m not going to let the same thing happen in New York. Boston was so small, everywhere you went, you were recognized. At least here (in New York), I have places to breathe, places I can probably go to the park without being recognized. I’m not going to make myself miserable for the next four years and at least try to have fun, and continue to work hard, like I’ve always done.”
Martinez also talked about the criticism he took from ex-pitching peer Curt Schilling, who suggested earlier that Martinez got special treatment from the Red Sox.
“If it’s more time in the gym, then yes, I got special treatment,” Martinez told the Herald. “I asked Schilling a lot of times to run with me, he couldn’t. I could run distance like nobody on the team. And, I spent a lot more time in the gym than anybody else because I was hurt in 2001 and nobody knows what I did to rehab. So is that special treatment? I’ll give it to anybody else that wants it.”
“Me and Schilling got along really well," Martinez added. "There was never, ever anything bad, or any disagreement on anything. I don’t really understand why the comments came out about my work habits. If anybody knows my work habits, there’s no way to fool anybody.
“I don’t know if Schilling said it, but if Schilling said it, he doesn’t know me all that well. Those are things Schilling should have never said if he said it, as a player. If he didn’t say it, I guess I expect that from the media in Boston.”

Very classy all the way around. Even the Yankees. Hey, if you don\'t respect being a champion then how are you supposed to become one? Highlights for me were the "monster" banner, the army vets, and the Russel/Orr/Bruschi/Seymour tetris. The only thing that would have made it better would have been if Phish came out on the hot dog while the BSO played 2001 during the banner unfurlings, and then took over the jam. Hey, they\'re from New England, coulda happened...
Speaking of which, here\'s the setlist (yes, I wrote it down)
Boston Symphony Orchestra w/ Boston Pops 4/11/5 Fenway Park; Boston, MA
I: 2001, O Glori\'us Day, Star Wars Theme > Jurassic Park Theme > Superman Theme, Olympic Fanfare > Hallelujah Chorus, Beethoven\'s 5th

great cememony, great game, great day. wish I was there instead of stuck at home sick. ugh. :(
-
Today at Shea: The loudest pregame ovation goes to Pedro by far. Glavine better than Pettite. Mets and Astros in a battle of bullpen futility. Astros prove worse with the addition of John Franco, who allowed a two-run single. 15-minute delay in the sixth because a high definition image of Pedro in center field was distracting Houston hitters and stalled upon request to change it. Mets win.

Sox and Yanks play again today?
nice ceremonies yesterday, my friends in Boston loved every minute of it and called me with harassing phone calls, to remind me that they were drunk in a bar outside Fenway and that the Red Sox won the World Series last year.
Can anyone confirm this "world series champion" thing, I don\'t believe it! I asked on several occassions "are you serious?"
Good for them, now its over and we can offically start the new season in baseball.

I can\'t believe no Yankees nor Red Sox fans have commented on last night\'s latest disgrace in the stands. Hopefully this will stir up the shit.
Meanwhile, Mets, Yanks, Sox, all under .500, but I\'m sure not for long.

No need to comment on last night\'s incident. Was simply a small altercation that resulted in nothing because Sheff kept his cool, and that security guard who I will name Speedy got there quite quickly. If the same situation happened during a D-Rays/Royals game no one would know anything of it. Yet again the media blows a small incident during a Yankees/Sox game way out of proportion.
-
what if that was a little kid going for that ball....would Sheff have acted the same way???? Also, to me it looked like that guy was trying to get out of the way once he saw Sheffield going for it, he just didn\'t do it in time. Media=wayyy overhyping this inncodent
-
the guy had no business being in the field of play. period.
-
You\'re right Dave. I feel the exact same way about Sheffield.
-
:rimshot:
-
Thank you. I\'ll be here all week. Drinks in the lounge. Next set at five.
-
Way overblown, that guy did nothing different than the other 100+ that reached over and tried to grab the ball as it passed them. The guy was looking at the ball, he never even saw Sheffield there. I loved the beer spilling on him to add to it!
Hope you Sox fans enjoyed my man Edgar lasst night!

yeah, that\'s right, classless...
there!

way overblown, yes.
the guy going for the ball, absolutely not. he was definitely looking at Sheff and his hand was only about, ehh, 4 feet above the warning track/ball. i think he tried to knock his hat off.
-
baseball fever is finally back in queens.....
5 in a row....
-
13 runs in the bottom of the 2nd..
a-rod 3-3 (currently) with 2HR and 6 RBI...
welcome back, yanks. :)
-
welcome back, yanks.
More like welcome to New York, D-Rays. Nothing like the D-Rays to get your team back on track. They\'ve done more to help the Yankees than A-Rod ever has. Thank your stars you\'re not playing the Angels or the Twins right now.
-
yeah especially since the orioles (a team which the yankees have owned for a long time) handed the yanks their pricks on a plate over the weekend...please.....i do not doubt the strength of the yankees, but lets not get all gooey over an 18 run game decided only by 9 runs....against the devil rays.....nice bullpen....
-
bottom line is they needed this game, no matter who it was against.
are all their problems solved? hell no. but they could have lost this game, and that would have been bad. they won. that\'s good.
winning = good.
losing = bad.
kthxbye.

Red Sox announce resolution of fan interference incident
BOSTON, MA -- Following a four-day investigation into the Thursday night incident at Fenway Park in which New York Yankees right fielder Gary Sheffield was struck by one fan and doused with beer by a second fan while chasing a batted ball into the right field corner, the Red Sox today announced the following resolution:
1. The fan who interfered with play by making contact with Sheffield while he was fielding a ball in play will have his season ticket privileges revoked for the remainder of the 2005 season. The club will consider reinstatement thereafter. (He will receive full reimbursement upon returning his tickets.)
This action is in accordance with the season ticket agreement to which each season ticket holder agrees. That agreement specifically provides that "Interfering with the play of the game in any way will not be tolerated and will be grounds for ejection from the premises, legal prosecution, recission of tickets, and cancellation of subscription privileges."
2. The fan who interfered with play by dousing Sheffield with a beer while he was fielding a ball in play will be prohibited from purchasing tickets for the remainder of 2005.
"Nearly all of our fans are respectful of the rules of baseball etiquette," said Red Sox Chief Operating Officer Mike Dee, who announced the decision. "We hope this will be a warning to the fans who have the opportunity to sit in the first few rows that our policies against interfering with play will be enforced."
"The Red Sox front office and Major League Baseball Security conducted a thorough inquiry that included, among other things, the detailed reviews of video, interviews with those who were directly involved, witnesses to the altercation, fans who sit in Box 86, and security and police personnel who were in the vicinity," said Kevin Hallinan, Major League Baseball\'s Senior Vice President/Security and Facilities. "Fan interference of any kind is taken seriously at Fenway Park and throughout Major League Baseball."
"Given our ballpark\'s intimacy, we will be vigilant in maintaining Fenway Park\'s comfortable atmosphere," said Red Sox Director of Security Charlie Cellucci. "But interfering with opposing players fielding a ball in play is unacceptable and will not be tolerated."
-
Response from Yankee Stadium Officials:
"We appreciate and respect the decision made by the Red Sox regarding the fan interference matter. However, fans at Yankee Stadium will continue to be allowed and encouraged to throw coins and batteries at opposing players, as they have been doing for decades. We will also continue to support the harrasment of visiting fans by playing "YMCA" during the 7th inning stretch so our fans can sing the traditional "Why Are You Gay." Finally, we will continue to allow our fans to dump beer, tear clothes, and throw solid objects at any non-Yankee fan. We look forward to upholding the great fan traditions in Yankee Stadium."

Devil Rays 6, Yankees 2.

Welcome back Yankees!
To last place!
What do the Yankees and fine wine have in common?
They\'re both in the cellar!
What\'s the difference between the Yankees and fine wine?
Fine wine gets better with age.
Let\'s review. The Yankees lost tonight to the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, who were 0-10 in The Bronx last year. The starting pitchers were Randy Johnson vs. Hideo Nomo. You can make a strong case for that being the most lopsided pitching matchup you can possibly have the Major Leagues. The Yankees were at home. They lost because Derek Jeter, their captain, grounded into a double play in the 7th with 2 men on and down by a run, then followed that up the next inning by booting a super easy double play ball that led to 3 runs instead of the end of the inning. This is without question the worst loss the Yankees have had since...since...since Game 7 of the 2004 ALCS!
-
awesome. yanks make me sick and a-rod can suck a fatty. i do like jeter though, surprised to hear he fucked it up tonight. ill wait til 10:00 sportscenter to see. i hope the yanks fall just short of the playoffs, wishing them last place is foolish, so i hope they finish a half game out of the wild card and have to watch boston lose to the cubs in the series from their homes.
-
Maybe my mind isnt what it used to be, but if memory serves me correct the Yankees were\'nt too good the first 20 or so games last year either. . .
Wolfman, I expected a little more, don\'t wanna use the word class, but its the only only one that comes to mind right now, out of ya.
If they\'re still in last place a month from now, or hell if they\'re more than 5 games back at the break I\'ll personally shake your hand and wear a Red Sox jersey and hat at a PB show. . .

seems to me like the wolfman knows his shit

No Red Sox fan in the world is bitter, believe me! To me the baseball world is a happy flowery wonderland of gypsy sun and rainbows. The bitterness is all coming from the Yankee fans who cannot handle being losers. You\'re all a little bit crazy right now, which is understandable. The Yankees will be fine, we all know that, so in the meantime try not to make horse\'s asses out of yourselves while I point out the facts of last night\'s game.
-
cool. where\'s your paragraph about the red sox loss last night?
-
Remember when Yankee fans used to let stuff like this roll down their backs?
Oh, and this isn\'t a jab at anybody here (more of a comment as a general baseball fan), but isn\'t the "Red Sox Next World Series = 2090" thing getting a bit old? It was funny in October for about ten minutes, now it\'s almost as overused as "The New Mets".

I couldn\'t agree more with this....now how bout Manny\'s BOMB last night. That may have been the longest ball ever hit out of Fenway

Man critically injured in RFK fall
Posted: Wednesday April 20, 2005 11:48PM;
Updated: Wednesday April 20, 2005 11:48PM
WASHINGTON (AP) -- A man was critically injured when he fell from the top level of RFK Stadium after the Atlanta Braves-Washington Nationals game Wednesday night.
The 35-year-old man, whose identity was not immediately revealed, fell from a ramp on the 500 level of the stadium, hit several ramps and railings on the way down and landed on the concourse of the 100 level, said Alan Etter, District of Columbia Fire and Emergency Medical Services spokesman.
A witness said the man was looking over a railing before he fell.
"He was just standing there," Maxine Lewis told WJLA TV. "All of a sudden, he just lost his balance, fell over. I saw him hit his head on a railing, then he hit his head on a second railing and just fell flat."
The man was flown to a hospital in a U.S. Park Police helicopter, suffering from multi-system trauma.
Police were investigating whether alcohol was a factor.

7/31 vs. Minnesota
8/3 vs. Kansas City
Granted Kansas City will most likely be well out of the playoff hunt by then, but the Sox will hopefully be in the thick of it. And Minnesota could have implications going into the stretch run.

Has anyone else noticed that Pedro Martinez is a halfway decent pitcher? And that Al Leiter is a washed up piece o\' poop. I mean, whenever Cliff Floyd steals second twice in one inning, you know you\'ve had a bad game. It was as important an April win you can possibly get.

all the other teams and fans are just jealous of the red sox

Where do you work?

Mass Mutual in downtown Springfield
It\'s also coming to the Agawam town library near where i live so i\'m gonna try for a picture with it there
-
Amazing how quiet it gets in here when both the Sox and Yanks are playing poorly. But oh my god, do the Yankees suck!
What\'s the difference between the Yankees and the Saints?
Angels don\'t beat up on saints.
-
But oh my god, do the Yankees suck!
couldn\'t have said it better myself. for 200 million dollars that team should be the stadium after every game, home or away. I am a Yankees fan but they suck.
-
At least Torre has come to his senses with some help from Cashman. Bernie Williams isn\'t the pre-surgery Bernie of old. Moving Matsui to center should work out well, but Womack hasn\'t really played too much outfield before, and LF in Yankee Stadium isn\'t an easy place to play. I\'m interested in seeing this Cano kid play, maybe they should try him out in LF though, or let Crosby play every day (his brother seemed to do alright as an every day player). As for the pitching, blah, trade Randy Johnson for a good (not great, Kip Wells maybe or the like) young starter and a couple relievers! Oh, and that guy playing third? Let him be, heh.
-
Add Kevin Brown after Randy Johnson in above post, awful, 6 runs in the first inning to the D-Rays, is he ser?

Yes you\'re right: Kevin Brown is old old old old old old.
Think it might be time for the Steinbrenner\'s to pull the plug (literally) on this fossil?
While we\'re at it, think the Mets can do the same with Tom "Anything But Terrific" Glavine?
-
yeah, and while we\'re at it, how about on Kerry Wood.
i know hes only twenty something, but his arm is going on 47. im sick of waiting on that jack ass who has never learned how to pitch, he just fucking throws.
oh yeah, the old old old comment only included Kevin Brown, it wasnt specific, i was generalizing those pins.

22 runs surrendered in 2 games to the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. What a freefall. You\'d think they would have made a pitstop at "decent" on their way from "very good" to "atrocious".
-
i repeat my statement, as a Yankees fan,
they suck. No team should have to be humilated like that by the Devil Rays.
-
Probly not a lot of mets fans here but how bout Cliff Floyd?! 20 game hit streak, batting .391, 8 HRs, 25 RBIs, obp .443, slugging % .701!!. He pretty much won the whole game by himself two nights ago with a a decisive solo homer and making an amazing catch that saved a game winng 2 run shot that was about 3 feet over the center field wall. He has to be the hottest player in the majors right now. been real fun to watch. Just hope he can keep it up!
-
I\'m a Mets fan and Floyd and Pedro have been their MVP\'s. Great win today. Benson and Heilman were sharp.

Hmmm...a feeble effort. A. I\'m not from here, I\'m just stuck here B. I\'m from Boston C. From West Hartford I can get to 4 major league ballparks (Boston, 2 NY, Philadelphia) before you can get to your closest (Yankee Stadium). I\'ll give you a break and score that a 3/10 :)
-
Ouch. So can someone help me out here? I forgot what it feels like to be a fan of a losing baseball team. Sox fans, Mets fans, I\'m looking your way, any advice? ;)

Pads just won their 6th straight. 3 in a row so far over the Cards and I\'m hoping they brought their brooms on this road trip for tomorrow. Woo woo.

Yankees on a hot streak right now, 2 in a row and the old fart Brown got himself out of 2 jams today, alright...

Just got home from taking my mom to the mother\'s day game. Did you know that the players all choose what music gets played when they come to bat? Well, they do. Bill Mueller comes out to Tom Sawyer, which was pretty cool. But the prize definitely goes to Randy Winn of the Mariners, who comes out to Megilla by Phish! I mean seriously, you got guys coming out to Who Let the Dogs Out and Born to be Wild and things like that, and this guy comes out to a Phish jazz tune.
In other news, I upped my lifetime record to 77-1 in the guess-the-attendance game.
-
wolfman,
is there anything you don\'t have stats for?
didn\'t Manny Ramirez come out to an objectable song (few years back, i think) that had to do with getting high?

From November 4th, 2004
What about Pedro? Wouldn\'t he look good in blue and orange?
Absolutely not. I\'d like to see how the Mets would justify not signing Guerrero last offseason, who is in the midst of his prime, and go for Martinez, who is just past it.
Thoughts, Pitchie?
-
That bored ya have to bring up comments from November? Or just ashamed that the Yanks have won 5 straight and are catapulting their way to the division lead sooner than anyone expected?
Then again you do bring up an interesting dillemma since they justified not signing Guerrero easily by signing Pedro and some dude named Carlos. . . Thoughts, Pitchie?
-
Went to Yankee Stadium yesterday, great game. Tino may save them yet!
-
Pedro is the best pitcher in the game
The Sox obviously blew it
The Mets obviously benefited (and should still have Guerrero)
I was wrong
That\'s irrelevant
I\'m not a general manager
And apparently, neither is Theo
Wells is looking good though
And Foulke is so bad he makes Rivera look steady
It was a nice try, Little Sock Boy
It was a massive failure (like the Sox offseason)
But it was a nice try
Work harder
-
Roger Clemens is the best pitcher in the game
Fixed that for ya, even being over the hill. . .
-
1. Pedro was dumped prematurely by the Sox. Clemens prematurely retired then unretired once the Yanks prematurely dumped Pettitte
2. Pedro helped lose Game 7 of the 2003 ALCS, a game which Clemens started for the Yanks. Clemens was the losing pitcher in Game 7 of the 2004 NLCS
3. They\'ve both beaned Mike Piazza and subsequently fueded with him through the media
4. They\'ve both won a Cy Young in each league
5. They\'ve both won a World Series
6. Pedro pitches for the Mets and Clemens was originally drafted by the Mets
The main difference: Pedro never used steroids
-
Why so hostile Met boy? It was just a question. Geez. I guess I can understand after last night\'s crushing loss to the mighty Cubs, that must be what has you upset. Or maybe it\'s just Kazmir for Zambrano. For the next 10 years when you\'re just one pitcher short all the time and never win, the only thing that will come to your mind is "Kazmir for Zambrano".
Yes Anthony, I am bored. What am I going to do, sit here and talk about the Red Sox winning again? It\'s not news. Getting Pitchie out of lurking to talk about the Mets is much more exciting than talking about another Sox victory. The Yankee victories of late are exciting to talk about given the novelty factor.
-
novelty factor? yea, maybe to some, but Tino? I mean c\'mon, Sox fan or not give the guy some credit, just stepping it up for the Pinstripes. 5 homers in 5 games, that\'s pretty SER if you ask me, considering they signed him for defense. Welcome home Tino, welcome home. . . As for that Giambi guy? SOMEONE PLEASE TAKE HIM!!! Hey, Keith Foulke got another WIN last night ;)
-
Yes, Kazmir for Zambrano was a bad trade. Almost as bad as the trade of Pedro for...wait, who did they get again for a first-ballot Hall of Famer who won Game 6 at Yankee Stadium then blanked the Cards in Game 3 of the World Series? Right, they got a big fat nothing. Actually, since they got Wells, they really did get a big fat nothing.
Please don\'t mistake hostility in regards to my team for criticism in regards to yours.
Please continue working harder.
-
I don\'t know why you\'re so hung up on Wells. We don\'t need him. 8-1 since he went on the DL. He\'s just a bonus if he happens to pitch well. He probably won\'t even make the postseason roster.
-
Even better. Lose one of the best pitchers in the history of the game. Gain one that won\'t even make the postseason roster.
You simply are not exerting the maximum amount of effort. You are not, proverbially, giving 110 percent.
-
Almost as bad as the trade of Pedro for...wait, who did they get again for a first-ballot Hall of Famer who won Game 6 at Yankee Stadium then blanked the Cards in Game 3 of the World Series?
Uhhh. Pitchie? Schilling pitched game 6.
And why are you so hung up on Wells? Who cares about him? We got Clement, who has a better record than Pedro, and Arroyo is the next Koufax.
-
Clement is only one letter away from Clemens so you\'re onto something. And if he doesn\'t work, you can always coax Joe Hesketh out of retirement.
-
How about Pedro pitching game 6 last year?
-
How about Pedro\'s career ERA of 2.76 and Clement\'s mark 4.28?
But as long as Clement has a better record than Pedro (translation: one less loss in the second week of May), it\'s all good.
And if he doesn\'t work out, you can always get Tony Fossas out of the convalescent home to pitch to a lefty or two.

I\'m just keeping my mouth shut and enjoying it :) No need to rub it in. . . .YET

OK, maybe I jumped the gun a little on that prior statement. There are still 11 games left in the month and they still have to play the Mets, Tigers, Red Sox and the Royals.
The next 11 games should be interesting.
They Yanks are finally playing like the 200 Million they are worth!

well, the games still count, last i checked, and i can say, as a yankees fan, that i haven\'t been this excited about baseball in may for quite some time. for the first time in a long time, the regular season games actually have some meaning to yankee fans, and i\'m finding myself watching more games than ever..

LOL, as a Yankees fan we are not use to this in May at all. I too have watched more games this year so far then before. I am just glad to see that the $200 million payroll isn\'t being completely wasted. Just good to see them winning some games.
-
that\'s exactly what i mean.

It looks good for the Yankees this weekend, especially if they can play solid baseball for the remainder of the Detriot series. It would be nice to be riding a momentum wave going into the series with the Red Sox. Seems like no matter how good the Yankees are at any given time, the Red Sox have a way of hurting them. They always play them really hard. Having a 4 game winning streak going into Friday nights game would be ideal. Johnson vs. Wakefield. Yankee stadium. This one is already making up to be a classic. However, Johnson has NOT been everything that we fans have expected. I hope to see him come around but it might be better to trade him and bring in some younger talent. Look what has happened since they brought that kid Robinson Cano in. Just have to wait and see.
Who the hell is Chien-Ming Wang? and why is he in pinstripes?
-
Look what has happened since they brought that kid Robinson Cano in. Just have to wait and see.
I hope they hold on to him.
Well the reason why it\'s such a big thing when yanks and sox meet is because you never know what\'s gonna happen, in terms of baseball or fans getting beat up by players, who knows...
-
I thought they would have held on to Alfonso Soriano too. Robinson Cano is worth keeping. I think he will develop quite nicely.
-
Ya but soriano wasn\'t as close to a rookie as cano is. Cano has more sentimental value...now lets hope they don\'t trade him...
-
Jake Peavy last nite, Brian Lawrence tonite back to back complete games on the road. In 1st and looking good! Go Padres Go Padres!
-
You a Padres fan? or just a fan of the SoCal teams?
Interesting way to start of the Memorial Day weekend with the Yankees taking the 1st game. All these games will make this weekend evening more exciting then it will be.

-
didn\'t see much baseball this weekend because of the b\'fast.. only caught a bit of saturday\'s mauling while struggling to stay awake, then a bit of last night\'s game at the Hangar after the show.. sox were cold coming in, and the yanks were hot.. now, with the 2 teams almost dead even, we\'ll see where they go from here..

Today was a good day.

Tonight was the 3rd time in Yankees history that they have been swept by the worst team in baseball. I have never seen such a disgrace in a team. No offense, can\'t score, starting pitching is terrible, bull pen is doing alright, but overall, $200 million slowly being flushed down the toliet.
I am a fan of the Red Sox home day game uniforms. Bout time they actually have a little red in their uniforms.

I agree with this. However, I am not sure that the D-Rays had the worst record in the majors at the time. It was probably the Yankees at this time, with the worst record. Althought, the D-Ray\'s organization seems to be the worst team year after year, the stats for the Yankees say otherwise. According, to the official statistics of the NYY organization, the first time was in 1937 vs. the Philadelphia A\'s, the second time, 5 years ago vs. the Detriot Tigers and finally, last night.
-
^^^ what spacey said.. D-Rays were not the worst team in the league.
-
what do you guys think is a better division NL East or AL East or other?
-
^^^ what spacey said.. D-Rays were not the worst team in the league.
Of course they weren\'t. You cannot be the worst team team in the league whilst sweeping another team. The Yankees were the worst team in the league at that point. And since they beat themselves, they were thus beaten by the worst team in the league at the time.
-
Randy Johnson\'s looked good though. He\'s so bad he couldn\'t strike out a drunken Kevin Maas. The Big Unit and New York fit together about as well as Alex Rodriguez Gold Glove. Oh baby.
-

I see what you are saying Wolfman. I see. The Yankees are terrible right now. It is sad to say. I am glad that I lived in Mass for a while because now I know the Red Sox inside/out. Still, Let\'s go Yankees!!!
-
what do you guys think is a better division NL East or AL East or other?
tough to say.. NL East has more consistent ballclubs that are playing sound baseball day to day (and the pitching is great), but the AL East is a lot more fun to watch no matter what.

Speaking of which, think the Rocket is going anywhere?
-
Yes I have heard some rumors as of late as well.
Speaking of which, think the Rocket is going anywhere?
I heard that the Rocket is not happy in Texas and wants to return to Bostonia!!! That would be some shit. The Yankees would probably hire an assassin at that point.
-
Really? I thought he would want to be in the Hall of Fame as a Yankee.
If they traded Roger, who could they replace him with that would satisfy the fans? I hear they adore him down there.
I guess it\'s not all about what the fans want though, lol, because then we would probably still have Orlando Cabrerra (sp?).

I just read in a local paper that five members of The Boston Red Sox will be receiving makeovers tonight on "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy" (10pm on Bravo). I\'m definitely tuning in for this one.

Ha ha ha
ARE YOU SER? Hopefully they\'ll cut Damon\'s hair. Maybe then he won\'t feel the need to throw like a girl.
Wish I had seen this post earlier so I could have checked to see if it was true or not.

I saw that episode of Queer Eye for the Red Sox Guy

Bunch of fags, Cardinals are showing them how real baseball is played!
-
Roger Clemens stays put in Texas to be able to attend family things. Yankees completely lick balls right now, and I honestly can say that I do not believe the Yanks or the Sox will make the playoffs this year.
As for trade rumors, I lack a television and my daily dose of Baseball Tonight and Sportscenter, so I don\'t know what is going on. But the Yankees will NOT get rid of anyone, not because they should keep everyone, but because their jackass owner overpays his players and no teams out there will be willing to take on any of the contracts, plus they have NO FARM system AT ALL!
Just my $.02, Thanks.
Ant (disgruntled Yankees fan)

Nothing like a homestand against the Pirates, Cubs, D-Rays, and Mets to get a Yankee fan feeling good about themselves. I\'d be more worried that Randy Johnson is OWNED by the worst team in the league than I would be excited that everyone finally decided to hit, if only for one game. Regardless of how many you score, one should never be optomistic when giving up 11 runs to the D-Rays. Lose tonight, and last night never even happened.

it\'s a good thing the red sox are doing soooooo much better than the yankees right now, or we might not be getting Wolfman\'s spectacular pinpoint Yankee analysis.

a win is a win, just like a loss is a loss
it doesn\'t matter what you do now, its what you do after the all star break

yanks lose. and wow, wolf was right - last night literally never happened!
it\'s like it\'s been completely erased from my memory..

That\'s why the whole sports rivalry is a mockery.
If Wolfman grew up in Staven and Peck in Framingham, they would be trading jeers from the other\'s perspective right now.

As a born and raised Yankee fan, I found it tough at first to live in the southcoast of Massachusetts and attend school there. I was surrounded by many people from Boston and outside. Just about everyone is a Red Sox fan. At first, I hated them and loved to see the Yankees dominant the series. Towards the last couple of years residing in New Bedford, I began to respect the Red Sox in a way I never thought I could. Now, I live in CT and my good friend is a Red Sox fanatic. We usually switch between NESN and YES. I have to say, and maybe this is just the way I see it but the Yankees have no idea on how to play baseball. Why do you swing at the first shitty pitch with 2 men in scoring position? They always seem to be swinging for the fences, always. The Red Sox on the other hand, play fundamentally sound baseball. Singles and move the runners. I believe that the Red Sox have a great offense because they can move runners, come up with hits when they need them and they are always in a reasonable position to comeback. The Yankees will be lucky to finish above .500 this year, I really believe that. It makes me sick. Does this even make sense?

yanks lose. and wow, wolf was right - last night literally never happened!
it\'s like it\'s been completely erased from my memory..
Sad, sad, sad is the day in Yankeeland that a Yankee fan has been reduced to clinging to a win at home against Tampa Bay. Oh, how the mighty have fallen.

my bad. i forgot i was talking to a fan of a team whose fans have spent their entire lives trying to forget the games they\'ve watched. clearly the concept of watching a game that you might remember for a while is still new and foreign to you, so for that, i apologize...

Very good perspective on that one Dave.

Very good perspective on that one Dave.
Very amusing thread. Reminds me of the Red Sox - Yankees disputes that would break out at UMass between the Mass. kids and the tri-staters. You literally could not attend an event at that school without chants of "Yankees suck" breaking out.
-
While I to must say this thread has taken quite an amusing turn, I must also add that;
You literally could not attend an event at that school without chants of "Yankees suck" breaking out.
You could attend a funeral in Massachusetts and this chant would break out. You Boston fans have over used this chant for soooooooo long, that quite frankly, it has lost its meaning.
-
Actually it hasn\'t had any meaning for the last 10 years, since the Yankees have been, without question, the dominant team in baseball.
-
That is truth, Mark!
Too bad, they really suck now, maybe the Sox persistence paid off?
-
Actually it hasn\'t had any meaning for the last 10 years, since the Yankees have been, without question, the dominant team in baseball.
Massachusetts has the highest meathead population per capita, so when the Yankees win several World Series titles in a row, they still suck according to all the dumb boys with thick Eastern Mass. accents.
Meatheads get a 0.1/10 on the logic scale.
-
my bad. i forgot i was talking to a fan of a team who last October fucked my team up for all eternity

YANKEES SUCK
How do you feel now Yankee fans? You just lost 3 out of 4 at pathetic Yankee Stadium, where nobody is scared to play, to the mighty Tampa Bay Double-A\'s. How many times are you going to get slaughtered by these guys this year? Still rolling in glee from that one inning 2 nights ago? Did it ever occur to you that you scored all 13 runs against a Double-A pitcher who was only in the game because of Lou Piniella\'s personal vendetta against him?
I have 2 pieces of advice to all Yankee fans.
1. Shut up.
2. Run and hide from this thread until next April. No matter how witty you try to be, you can only make an even bigger ass out of yourself. It\'s bad enough you\'re stuck rooting for this disgusting bunch of frauds. It\'s worse that some of you have stooped so low as to be satisfied with losing three out of four at home to the Double-A\'s just because you scored a bunch of runs in one of the games. But worst of all would be to say anything at all right now. Keep a low profile, and come back next year.
Has it occured to you that your "superstars" A-Rod and Mike Mussina are making $7 million more this year than the entire Tampa Bay payroll combined? Or that Tanyon Sturtz, your worst player, makes more than 13 of the Double-A\'s? And you\'ve lost seven out of of ten to these minor leaguers? You should be angry and humiliated, but you\'ve been reduced to such worthlessness after last October that you actually try to sit here and say you\'re happy about one win in four games against the Double-A\'s, at home. Oh my god do the Yankees suck.
The NY logo is now a symbol of fraudulence and failure. Cling hard to the past, it\'s all you\'ve got. You don\'t have shit going for you now, or in the foreseeable future. Wax poetic about the glory days until you\'re blue in the face, until the kids finally roll their eyes at you and walk away. Wax poetic until the day you die. That\'s all you can do now. The rest of us will be rooting for our teams in the here and now.

The rest of us will be rooting for our teams in the here and now.
yup. root away. you are clearly a bigger fan of your team than i (and the rest of the yankee fans, as you say) am of mine. so much so, that your last 6 posts in this thread have been about teams other than \'your\' team. it\'s fun to say you\'re rooting for your team, but when you\'re watching yankee games night in and night out, and catching the highlights of \'your\' team on sportscenter, it becomes quite apparent that you are a closet yankee fan. not that there\'s anything wrong with that. i look forward to the next time the yankees lose, and i can click on this thread to read some more expert analysis on just how \'owned\' they actually got...
-
Wolfman, am I happy about the outcome against the D-Rays this season? Of course not. Am I worried? Yea, but just a little bit. Do I CARE that A-Rod and Mussina make more than the entire TB payroll? Not at all. Do us all a favor and look at the AL East standings. The Sox have a nice streak going and are only 0.5 games behind Baltimore. But can you honestly say that either of those two teams have a \'safe\' lead in the Division when the Yankees and Blue Jays are both within 5 games? A 5 game lead with more than half a season left is by no means safe for comfort, I don\'t care what teams you are, how many \'superstars\' are on the team, how high the payroll is, or how long the average hair length is. But, hey, if you believe the Yankees fans should shut up and wait until next year, can you do me a favor and let me know when, exactly, I should be saying "wait \'till next year", and when this season is over, can you let me know, exactly, when to start saying "This is THE year, this is our year!". I know you and "Red Sox Nation" have had plenty of practice at it.

This is exactly why, Red Sox fans suck at being fans. Nothing but derogatory comments, nothing that is even worth listening to. It is no new fact that the Yankees are owned by the D-Rays, I could have told you that days ago. What will be interesting is how, at the end of the season, Red Sox fans will be saying, atleast we had a better record then the Yankees. Because, neither of these teams will be around in October.
-
it is apparent that you are a closet yankee fan.
Oh geez. Pec. Single dumbest comment you\'ve ever made in some 5200 posts. Oof.
Funny how you sit there and whine about me not talking about my team, yet you are saying nothing about the Yankees all the while.
You should have listened to me. I\'ll say it again: as a Yankee fan, no matter how witty you try to be, you can only make a bigger ass out of yourself by talking.
You want me to talk Red Sox? Fine.
-Just gutted out three tough games for a sweep of Cleveland...on the road. Indians had won nine straight going into the series.
-Won 4 straight, 9 out of 10.
-Tied in the loss column for 1st place in the division.
There, happy?

This is exactly why, Red Sox fans suck at being fans. Nothing but derogatory comments
You can\'t suck at being a fan. It\'s not a talent. And the reason that this stuff comes out is because every Sox fan took it for as long as they have been alive, all year, every year, from the Yankee meatheads. So after 24 more years of giving it back, I will be even. The thing is, Yankee fans talking smack has become so commonplace that everyone just got used to it. You didn\'t go around saying "Yankee fans suck at being fans because all they make is dergoatory comments" before last October. But that was all they did. It was just the norm. But now, of course, you give it to them for 3 months and they whine and cry and squirm and come up with really dumb things to say when they should just lay low and be quiet. It\'s quite amusing.

that\'s such a generalization, it\'s not even funny.. you can dig up yahoogroup posts from 2001 where i state dozens of times that i have *never* been one to bash fans of other teams because it is FUCKING LAME!!

You Sox fans have no respect for anything. You were saying the Yankees Sucked when they were clearly the most dominant team in baseball years ago. All you Sox fans are the same. You win 1 WS in 86 years and believe that your team is good. Granted the Sox, right now are the better team, you are still in 2nd, which makes you the 1st loser. And you can suck at being a fan, its called respect, something Boston knows nothing about. In the end, the Yankees are a successful franchise, while the Red Sox are merely a ballclub that plays in a park.
-
that\'s such a generalization, it\'s not even funny.. you can dig up yahoogroup posts from 2001 where i state dozens of times that i have *never* been one to bash fans of other teams because it is FUCKING LAME!!
Look, you are the most mature and intelligent, down-to-earth Yankee fan I have ever encountered. I\'ll definitely give you that much credit. But it was easy for you to say that long, long ago in 2001 when all was rosy and you had no reason to hate anyone. Now look at yourself and your fellow Yankee fans. Squirming, hating, losers, stuck in the past starting from 2000. (I\'ll give you a hint: don\'t talk.) It\'s not lame that I talk trash, it\'s only fair. Like I said, in 23 more years we\'ll be even.
You Sox fans have no respect for anything. You were saying the Yankees Sucked when they were clearly the most dominant team in baseball years ago.
Again, the theme of being stuck in the past due to terror of looking at the present. What do you want me to do, go to monument park and cowtow? Who cares about that? The Yankees today are frauds and failures and they\'re absolutely stealing your money. You should hate them as much as I do for ripping you off.
-
Wolf,
I for one and the most liberal Yankee fan you will find. I am not living in the past. I was making a point that Red Sox fans use to say the Yankees sucked when the clearly didn\'t. That chant now, I will join in on, because they are terrible. They do not play fundamental baseball. Watch a Yankee at bat and you will notice 85% of the time, they swing at the 1st pitch. Are they wasting my money? No, I don\'t go to games or buy memoriablia. I hate the Yankees, right now, because they wasted their money on trying to revive the old people. I would have had more respect if they said, at the beginning of the year, that we are going to go in a rebuilding mode. We need young talent and they have to grow. The Red Sox, right now, have been playing very good baseball and are much funnier to watch.
-
whatever. i\'ll go ahead and say something that actually makes sense..
perhaps the Yankees are just getting a little too comfortable playing with each other.

I\'d say that sums it right up. Look at how intent and deep Sheffield looks into Jeters eyes. I always that Jeter was A-Rod\'s!

Entertaining? \'Eh, sort of. But as my post declared the Yanks are 5 games back. The break is not all that far down the road. I fear my previous commitment more than I fear the Yankees continuing to be mediocre. . .
If they\'re still in last place a month from now, or hell if they\'re more than 5 games back at the break I\'ll personally shake your hand and wear a Red Sox jersey and hat at a PB show. . .

The only question in my mind is who the Angels are gonna beat up on in the World Series. Yeah what?

So as we go through July, it\'s gettin pretty close. Personally I\'m a Yankee fan, and there is nothin like a good rivalry between the Yanks and Sox. Just wondering where everyone fits in with this great sports rivarlry.

great. just great. good point though.
heres how i stand: could care less about the yankees and the sox. persobnally due to most of my family who are all redsux fans i must hate the yankees, however i dont like the sox too much either. point being its fun to rag on my family when the redsux used to lose all the time, but after last season its pretty pointless for any yanks fan to say anything about the redsox again.
as for me im a diehard braves fan have been since worst to first in 1991. and im starting to like the NATS for some strange reason eventhough they are up 2.5 gms on the braves. the NL East is IMO better than the AL East, mainly b/c all the teams are above .500.
well the braves v mets are almost on...
-
Go mets!
-
go home. better yet heed your own advice.
-
Thus the reason i was reluctant to start posting in a yankee/redsox thread.....add baseball to the religion/politics category, i feel no need to argue with my fellow breakfast junkies, i do that plenty with yankee fans that don\'t share my same musical taste. Plus i thought it was everyone against the yankees....guess i was wrong.
edit: Game time baby...go sox!

me neither but i guess i didnt make myself clear. i hate the yankees end of thread

My intentions of this thread were not to errupt WW3 (if that is even possible, it may not be). Besides a discussion about Pink Floyd playing Live 8 has already proven it can cause "fighting words". I\'m just a civil sports fan who likes a good rivalry. I go to school in Rhode Island, and all my roomates last year were Sox fans and I don\'t try to make those stupid arguments i.e. Red Sox suck bla bla bla.

Yankees rule! I\'ve been a die-hard Yankees fan since the beginning of time... just bc the RS have one championship title doesn\'t make me love my team any less.

How do they go from playing baseball one day and getting embarrassed the next?
-
but still the yankees blew a 3-0 lead in the ALCS and lost 4 in a row. truely the greatest feat in sports history. on a side note boones HR the previous season was lucky as well if that never of happened than the red sox may be pushing for a 3peat this yr.
Go BRAVES

PITCHING.... they dont have any. you get have a rookie make his debut as a new york yankee against the red sox in Fenway and expect to win
-
what is, is.
life isn\'t about what could have been.
if I didn\'t quit my job, I couldn\'t spend my friends money as freely as I do.
They have Zero pitching.
Why would you pick up an 0-5 Redding? Dude can\'t win, yet they grab him. Also, I heard that Leiter is close to becoming a Yankee. A team of has beens indeed.

good point.. but
if the braves didnt win 15 division titles in a row, they wouldnt be int he playoffs every single year

The Braves have been consistent in getting to the playoffs. They just need to win a few more and find themselves back in the WS.

sucks that WONG got hurt he was prob there best pitcher. the unit will come around. i mean randy johnson. but al lieter is almost 40 yrs old. i think they yankees need to get younger but they\'ll still get someone useful before the deadline. well at least the yankee fans hope so
The Braves have been consistent in getting to the playoffs. They just need to win a few more and find themselves back in the WS.
yeah your telling me. this is their yr though. after they win a tough bl east battle their young guys willl be prepared for the post season. hampton goes tonite vs. the mets. he been on the dl most the yr. chipper be back soon. with all their injuries this season they have really played well. if it wasnt for that one game vs the NATS when they call Brian Jordan HR a foul Ball they braves would be in 1st
-
Yankees have this crazy notion that all these old guys are going to become young again. I don\'t know if the Yankee Nation will be ready for a few years of rebuilding. Need youth and a lot of it. Wouldn\'t hurt to get a worthy farm team either.
-
thats why i love the braves. every year its a someone new
-
Same here, just wish the Yanks would shape up a little.

rotfl ..... lack of steroids, perhaps???
:thumbsdow The game last night was shameful :sigh:
-
I\'m glad to see Giambi is finally hittin the ball without hittin the juice. Yea investing 7 digits a year for 40+ year old pitchers is just stupid. Hell the way last nights game went Im surprised Mel Stottlemyre isn\'t out there pitching.
-
They are beginning to let this one slip away too. Red Sox play some solid fundamental baseball and that can not be stopped by a bunch of old-timers.
-
Word on the streets is Cashman is about to sign Al Leiter. Another old timer
-
Cashman is an idiot if he signs Leiter. A ballclub of 40+ year olds will be lucky if they can finish the season.
-
The Yanks better have a wheel chair ramp to the pitchers mound.

I don\'t understand how we are disilluisioned? We know that state of our crappy ball club.

pretty sure one Major League Bitching thread is enough.
re: yanks & leiter - umm, they had no one to start tomorrow, and it didn\'t really cost them anything to get leiter. is he gonna go out and throw a gem? not likely.. but it\'s GOT to be better than mr. redding\'s start yesterday...

Illusion -
1. An erroneous perception of reality.
2. An erroneous concept or belief.
I still don\'t think disillusioned works here. We are not deprived of a false concept of reality. We know and understand and accept the state of the teams being. Besides, we are only 1 1/2 games back and Baltimore can take the top spot again with a win tonight. Better watch out ;)

good job on merging the two.
Leiter = not the answer
if he wants to live, he will throw a gem. All he has to do is keep the Yankees in the game. I am pretty sure a parapalegic could have farted a ball out of his ass better then Redding pitched. I know girls who could have lasted more innings.

lol...i was alluding to the rampant false belief that the yankees were going to be any good this season. But beleive me as a kid raised on the sox i will always watch out for your yanks... but baltimore... excuse me while i laugh
-
I will join you in laughing at Baltimore. Why do they have to go and ruin tradition by being in the top 2 teams. Don\'t they know that the 1st and 2nd place belong to the Red Sox and Yankees?
perhaps, we are disillusioned...

I think even Jeff Nelson would be better than Redding.

anyone on this board would have been better suited to pitch...

On a positive note, at least we wont have to listen to Joe Buck an Tim McCarver do the games tomorrow. They are terrible.

I hate Fox broadcasters. I don\'t really like YES\'s either. Interestingly enough, mainly because I watch baseball over P&S\'s (who is a Sox fan), I enjoy the broadcasting of the NESN crew, fan of Remdawg.

i didn\'t know if it was just me or what, but i thought they were extra bad today..
but that said, game on fox means i can watch it in HD. not so if it\'s on YES..
Well it seems like Fox will have (and has had) the World Series for the next 300 years. Its bad enough listening to Joe Buck during the fall classic, but to also have to listen him for an occaisonal football game as well.
-
Joe Buck Sucks!!!
He\'s your all around sports broadcaster.
-
how\'s everyone doing tonight?
i\'m doing well, thanks.
-
I didn\'t expect Leiter to be that "on" tonight. Funny thing is the last game Leiter played for the Yanks a loss to Flash Gordon with the Royals, and Flash almost lost the game for Leiter tonight, ironic. But its over Leiter looks good, I can sleep well tonight.
-
I think a partial reason Leiter was so \'on\' tonight is that Boston hasn\'t really seen his stuff all year, if they even have played against him at all. As the season goes on, you find some batters get use to the way a pitcher will pitch and will take advantage of having the odds in their favor. This doesn\'t mean a pitcher can\'t have a really on night. Just glad to be back in the running.
-
Yea good point Spacey. Right now well take a victory over Boston any way we can.
-

Truth to that!

yea, what he said. . .
No Wolfman comments after the weekend ranting between board members. . I am SHOCKED, absolutely SHOCKED! ;)
-
what a great weekend. who woulda thought that Leiter had 6 and 1/3 in him.
-
what a great weekend. who woulda thought that Leiter had 6 and 1/3 in him.
i was hoping for no more than 5 runs over 4!
-
like I said earlier, Leiter had a decent outing because the Sox have not seen him enough to know what he pitches or where he likes to pitch.
Now, the AL East has a nice little, interesting race going.
DerickW and P&S will be at the Sox game tonight, box seats on the 1st base line.

true slim, he was, and besides that he is Al friggin Leiter, the one and only. The guy is a saviour to all those in NY.

i don\'t know about that, I had a pretty grumpy met fan sittin\' next to me last night... with lot\'s of vulgarity headin\' Mr. Leiters way.
-
Mets? who they hell are they? When we talk NY it is Yankee land, what the hell is a MET?
Here is another Q that needs an A. Why does Jon Olerud wear a hard plastic helmut at first, I noticed he has done this with all the teams he has played with. Did he try starting a new style and it never caught on or is it because he has hard balls thrown at him all day?
-
Olerud’s choice of headgear stems from a near tragic incident he endured during his college years; while attending Washington State University in 1989, Olerud suffered a brain hemorrhage and an aneurysm during a morning workout. Though he recovered, doctors advised him to wear a protective batting helmet while playing first base or pitching (he was a two-position player in college), in order to protect against line drives and collisions with baserunners that might result in contact with the skull.

finally!
I have wonder this question for many months now.
Thanks Dave.
-
in other words, he has a soft dome ;)
-
in so many words, yes
-
al leiter is going to get tagged next time he hits the mound. watch, the opposition will light his ass up. good outing yesterday, yes. terrible season so far that will continue, yes.
i knew about olerud and the head injury, i remember hearing way back that he actually had a small metal plate in his head too?
-
we will worry about next time when it comes around. All I care about now is Kevin "old as dirt" Brown and how he fares this evening.
I am finally happy to learn the truth about Olerud\'s head.
-
Angels and Padres still leading their divisions just in case you east coasters forgot abt baseball out here. Oh and Yank fans the Angels are gonna put a hurtin\' on your team here pretty soon. :awwyeah:
-
I didn\'t even know baseball existed outside of the Red Sox and Yankees. Who are these teams you speak of?
Damn Bernie Williams, I thought he was dead, I can\'t believe he is still alive.
-
I hate Fox broadcasters. I don\'t really like YES\'s either. Interestingly enough, mainly because I watch baseball over P&S\'s (who is a Sox fan), I enjoy the broadcasting of the NESN crew, fan of Remdawg.
I\'m not sure why Rem-Dog is so popular - he seems like kind of a dummy, though at least he\'s a modest guy and not an elite jerk.
DerickW and P&S will be at the Sox game tonight, box seats on the 1st base line.
I will never undertsand why people pay so much for "good" seats.
No Wolfman comments after the weekend ranting between board members. . I am SHOCKED, absolutely SHOCKED! ;)
I can\'t wait till Wolfman returns with more hostile fire. I love his fanatical baseball-bashing posts for their entertainment value (he is kind of clever you must admit).
On another note, I checked the sports page in a newspaper and it appears that the Yankees are quite a few games above .500. How can they suck if they are doing decent? Must be a comparison of the excessive payroll vs. performance.
-
Al- They got them for free. The tickets were FREE!!!

Remdawg knows the club better than anyone and just the game better than anyone really and like you said hes sort of a dummy but he is a just an average guy you can relate to and not at all elite jerk off like the fox guys. And to answer your question about paying for good seats, well Fenway is an old ballpark and some seats will give u a sore neck because your seat does not face anywhere near homeplate, while other seats (quite a few really) are just completely obstructed by a thick green pole. Don\'t get me wrong i would take a seat anywhere in fenway for any game just cause of how much energy and emotion is crammed into that little ballpark every single game. Plus the new additions on Fenway are so ser their stu! Right feild concourse is sick and Monster Seats!?! come on!

If you can, why not? If I could afford it I would always have good seats. If you can afford it, it\'s absolutely worth it. You don\'t have to pay a ton to have good seats though; in most ballparks if you have a somewhat decent seat you can see most of the park without having to turn your head. It sure is nice to be up close though....

They\'re doing just fine at the moment... I think most people\'s comments come from their performance over the whole season thus far.

Well, Kevin "Tin Man" Brown returned last night, all I can say is thank jeebus the yanks offense showed up last night.
i\'m wondering how P&S enjoyed being a live witness to the sox dropping outta 1st place. is this the start of their typical august implosion?
-
I know its early still, and its not by much. . . I really, really, REALLY, wasn\'t gonna do this until later in the year. And its not the type of baseball fan I am, but. . . Well, honestly, I couldn\'t help myself

I have to say that I love this little Yanks/Sox rivalry thing going on here.
Kevin Brown makes me sick not as sick as Bernie Williams makes me. A routine play and for the money he makes, he should have known that it was Matsui\'s ball. OMG, I just wanted to strangle Williams. Not sure how the Yankees pulled it off but they did. Thanks to Rueben.

Well, with the warnings, I don\'t have to listen/read the "It\'s only a half game", "It\'s still July" type posts. . . I was gonna wait until the Yankees had the ^ or whatever meaning they clinched the division, but hey, I felt I needed to toss it out there now.

Who would have thought, good old 67 year old Reuben Sierea can still come through.
-
He is as old as dirt. confirmed.
-
how about the Chi-Sox people.. i know Red Sox/Yankees is the best rivalry in all of sports, but the South-Siders are the real fucking deal this year. anyone take a look at their record in their own AL Central???
31-5.
now that is OWNAGE.
-
White Sox = Best Team In Baseball right now
The road to the WS goes right thru ChiWhiteSox town
-
we\'ll see though, lack of playoff experience=big possibility to buckle.. although their style of winning curbs the chance to really fuck up -- pitching, defense, small ball. w/podsednik startin things with a single/walk, usually stealing at least 2nd base, and iguchi behind him as hands down the best situational hitter in the game, they get the ball rolling immediately and set the stage for an outstanding staff straight through. they also got clutch hitting that i havent seen in a long time. hey, trivia, off the top of your head when\'s the last time the White Sox won a world series???
-
1917
-
yyeah, most people dont know this. only 1906 and 1917.
the infamous Black Sox of 1920 should be considered one of the major "curses" in MLB.
my dad would kill me right now. i was raised a Cub fan.

No offense to your dad, but the Cubs haven\'t had all that much success since the 1900s either ;)

The Game was great, reallllll good time. I would do it again in a heart beat even through i\'m not a Sox fan, it\'s only money people, you work hard for it don\'t skimp out on treating yourself.

any thoughts on mariano rivera?
mine=hall of fame material
-
Arguably one of the best closers ever. Hes lights out
-
.91 era so far this season, over three hundred save, he is ser.
-
the argument IS if he is THE best reliever ever.
-
eckersley was pretty ser. long ass career 20+ years and he was an alcoholic through a lot of it. made it to cooperstown a few years ago
-
Anybody see Matt Clement get hit in the head last night....scary stuff. They can\'t afford to lose him for the season, but I just hope he will be able to hear again....that thing caught him square on the side of his head
-
definitely scary.. amazing he wasn\'t knocked out, and really scary to think that if his head was turned slightly more to the right, it would have got him square in the face... oof.
-
That was very scary, glad he is alive cause it looked bad. On a happy note, Cards beat Padres....
-
think if that liner nailed him right in the temple. hes damn lucky, and that was a crazy highlight that i caught outta nowhere. definitely scary. they said he should make his next start in the rotation... is this true Sox fans?

Look kids! It\'s newly-eternally-bitter Yankee fan! Observe how newly-eternally-bitter Yankee fan has also not said anything in this thread for the last two weeks. In fact, nobody has at all. We are all on the same level. But when anybody comes in here to highlight a good game for their team, with no derogatory mention of anyone else\'s team at all, newly-eternally-bitter Yankee fan can do nothing but be bitter. Newly-eternally-bitter Yankee fan is encouraged to post when the Yankees have a particularly good game, and to stop being so bitter and mean when others do the same.

did anyone watch that yankee game last night and see that kid fall from the upper deck and land on the net?? boy he looked confused when he sat up and realized what happened

"Harper told three friends he was sitting with that he was going to test whether the net would hold his weight -- and then he jumped, police said. Police arrested Harper on charges of disorderly conduct and reckless endangerment. He was awaiting arraignment Wednesday in Bronx Criminal Court,"
what a dope!

where\'s that info from?

espn.com
"That was the only exciting thing that happened today," Yankees owner George Steinbrenner said after Chicago\'s 2-1 victory.

kid was clearly DRUNK.. good lord.. f\'in idiot..
we were surprised they showed it on YES.. usually they cut away when idiots try to get their 15 minutes..
while i woulda loved to have seen the kid fall and crack his skull, he was above a LOT of people and someone *else* would have got VERY hurt, if not killed, so i\'m glad he crawled his way out..

-
yeah, haha i\'m friends with his mom...

He\'s definitely not the first person to fall into that net either. It happened against the Red Sox maybe 4-5 years ago, and other times besides that. Good thing that net is tight. I wonder if they check it to make sure it is drunken-idiot worthy. Does this happen at other stadiums?
-

yep, 2000 against the sox.
hey, they got 2 examples that it\'s drunk idiot proof.
-
Does this happen at other stadiums?
Not at Fenway...
But since they put in the monster seats last season, i\'ve been waiting for someone to reach for a ball just short of a homer and just free fall into left :hehehe: nah j/k, but sometimes it really looks like people are going to drop, its nuts! they always look all scared and stuff when it happens.
-
Haha yeah impossible to jump onto the net at Fenway unless your name is Rem-Dawg or Joe Castiglione. But I agree, it looks like someone\'s due to fall out of the 3-foot barrier on the monster seats. Thing is though, they\'ve had a 3-foot barrier in center field from the beginning and I don\'t think anyone\'s ever fallen off of that.
BTW, Sox explode for biggest inning of the year (9 run eighth) to sweep the Rangers!

Going into the 8th last night I looked at Plain&Simple and said (something like) "you guys need some insurance runs", 9 runs later I was regretting ever opening my mouth. Good Jebus, it almost the middle of August and the Yanks are so far from hitting their stride... i wanna just throw up (probably has more to do w/ TimmyTour than baseball).

I like the Yankees. I really do. I want them to make the playoffs. I wanted them to beat Minnesota last year in round 1 so the Sox could play them. No kidding. It\'s more fun that way.
All I want right now (besides for the Yankees to get the wild card) is for any Yankee fan to explain to me how the Yankees are PWN3D by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. Just explain how this has come to exist. In my infinitie wisdom, I cannot understand this.
-
david wright is my new favorite player in all of baseball. kid is fricken amazing.
-
(http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B00004ZB9L.01._SCLZZZZZZZ_.jpg)
-
If Wolfman can explain it, then no one can.
My hope of the Yankees even acheiving a Wild Card is beginning to dim.
-
(http://homepage.mac.com/prodriguez/artwork/roots/things_fall_apart.jpg)
The Yankees are definitely making the playoffs, don\'t worry. Only 1.5 games out in the wild card and the team to pass is Oakland, who is really the team falling apart. So you\'re PWN3D by the Devil Rays, what can ya do? For the rest of the season you\'ll beat up on everyone else not named the Red Sox.
-
Seth, I would love to explain it to you, but unfortunately I am at a loss for words. I blame Lou Pinella.
-
Here come the Blue Jays...hold your toungues ya\'ll!
-
They still have a little of work to do. If they have a strong finish to the season then they might have the opportunity to play in the post season.

It really was a shame about Halladay getting hurt. Probably the best pitcher in baseball first half of the year.

It would certainly be unsettling, but just remind yourself: 24 out of 36 at home to finish the year. The Sox will definitely make the postseason one way or the other. Come October 4th, say your prayers.
-
Mission accomplished. Schilling get\'s rocked.

Let me help ya with this one.
two words: falling apart
Go Yanks!
-
I wouldn\'t go that far Ant.
Anyhow...
who\'s got my heady pitcher?
-
First they pick up the bum, Alan Embree a pitcher who sucks. Even if he does in anything in NY he will always suck. And now the Yankees signed Mark Bellhorn (http://newyork.yankees.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/press_releases/press_release.jsp?ymd=20050830&content_id=1189719&vkey=pr_nyy&fext=.jsp&c_id=nyy)

The yankees think that if they take what they can from the soxs, then the\'ll play harder to beat them. I do agree that they both suck(Embree more so than Bellhorn),but i\'m glad there gone.....I fell for you Yankees fans

if this were to happen....the sox wouldn\'t make the playoffs.
-
BTW congratulations to the New York Mets. They play Philly tomorrow with Pedro on the hill with a chance to take over first place in the wild-card standings. Without a doubt their biggest home game since \'99.
-
Schilling isn\'t far behind Belhorn... BTW the Yankees will go 30-1 to finish the season, but will lose in the ALCS to the Sox in 7 games.
Since I don\'t really follow or watch sports, I\'m curious to know the scoop on Schilling. Is he still injured from last season?
-
I think picking up Bellhorn is a good move for the postseason, pending they actually get there. So he is only batting a little over a deuce hundred, but we all saw him come together last year for the playoffs, and that\'s when it counts. He\'s going to prove to be a valuable bat off the bench come October.
And there wouldn\'t be anything better than Sox/Yanks, game 7, top of 9, tie game, 2 outs, Ortiz at bat, bases loaded, and he gets struck out swinging by Alan Embree. The Bellhorn leads off the 9th with a walk off homer. . . Imagine the look on Sox fans faces!
-
Embree and Bellhorn are actually spies for the Red Sox, sent to sabotage the Yankees. Theo is taking GMing to a whole new level. The enemy has been infiltrated. You\'ll see...

Not at all. They are the perfect spies...bad enough to be cut, but good enough to be picked up and see playing time. Nobody else could pull it off. Theo is a genius.
-
Here is the way I can see it happening. The Yankees travel to Boston for the last 3 games of the season, which means, they can be playing for the AL East title going into the last game. Then they can meet again for the penant. Might be a real wild end to this season. If Belhorn comes alive like he did last year, then he might make a difference, I doubt it.
-
Mark Belhorn had to ride the crest of the greatest miracle in baseball history in order to be able to hit for 3 days. The only way he will make a difference is if he strikes out in a big spot. Which he will, because as I already said, he and Embree are secret Red Sox sabateurs.

OK man whatever we\'ll see if that win means anything after the Angels win tonight.
Lucky Shot by the way. Pfffft!

Devil Rays OWN the Yankees
sad really.
-
In Fenway Park the Angels can\'t seem to win. The last 12 of 13 there fruitless causes.
-
Fenway Park is a tough place to pull out a victory. The Red Sox, especially the last couple of seasons, have been relentless at home. They are very fun to watch when they play at home.
-
hey pitchie, what\'s this i hear you saying about a certain curt schilling? "stick a fork in him, he\'s done" he sure pitched pretty well today, shutting they yanks DOWN

I\'m pretty sure a pitching machine could shut down the Yanks.

Way to go buster! I know I’d brag about Schilling after the first good game of his 28 if he played for my favorite team. I mean he hasn’t been as bad as the worst player in the history of baseball, Carlos Beltran, but he’s been pretty bad. We’ll see. As few people apparently remember: October.
By the way, Schilling’s middle name is Montague and he’s fucking done.

not until he gets a few more rings on his fingers

One time fluke last season was.

yanks/sox today was one of the best i\'ve seen. brilliant performances by both Johnson and Wakefield. i have to admit i almost turned it off in the 8th when Torre didn\'t send Johnson back out.. definitely more drama than i needed in the 8th and 9th, but that\'s what helped make it such a great game..

Agreed.
I was sort of nervous with Riveria on the mound in the 9th. Ramierez was the first Red Sox to reach 3rd base all day. It is tough to way Mariano on the mound in close situations like that, especially after last seasons fall apart. However, both pitchers had a great duel going. Thank goodness for Giambi\'s homerun in the 1st.
I believe that makes the season series 9-7 in favor of the Yanks.
I think the division might be coming down to the Yanks/Red Sox at Fenway for the last 3 games of the season. Who could ask for anything more?

Yeah he has seemed kind of tired a lot of this season too.

That he has. I think his career is almost over, IMO. I believe he is closing in on 40 years old. Which isn\'t really old given the age of a lot of athletes these days. But, I just don\'t think his arm is a strong as it should be.
That being said. The Yanks head to Devil Ray country and the Sox head to Blue Jay territory. Both of these clubs (Tampa Bay and Toronto) have had the better of these two teams. Really, this end of the season is shaping up to be historic, as if the Yanks/Sox needed anymore history.
-
I was sort of nervous with Riveria on the mound in the 9th. It is tough to way Mariano on the mound in close situations like that, especially after last seasons fall apart.

the most dominant closer in the history of the game has saved 37 out of 41 games this year.. what more do you want from him?

I want 41 out of 41.
I want less stress when he is one the mound. I don\'t want a repeat of last seasons mishaps.
All it takes is him to blow that 1 important game and 37 out of 41 won\'t matter. At this point in the season the Yankees need every win they can get. While he may have lost a little on his arm, he still has done a very fine job at what he is suppose to be doing. Perhaps, I must be directing my comments towards the offense that really needs to put some insurance runs up and not get him into those situations.
-

i want you to tell me who you have in mind to replace him and give you less stress.

I never said replace him. I simply said that his career IMO is coming to a close. I am sure he has a few more years in him, but his dominance in the last couple of seasons is beginning to deteriate. There once was a time when they would make a call to the bullpen and you knew the game was over, now I don\'t feel/see that.
I doubt anyone can reduce the stress that I have when watching the Yankees play. That like I said before, needs to come from an offense that puts up some insurance runs. Right now, there are 3 pitchers who have more saves then Riveria, Cordero (44), Wickman (39) and Hoffman (37).
-
Hoffman does not have more saves than Rivera. 37 and 37 are equal. he does, however, have a better save percentage than Rivera, who, by the way, has a better save percentage than the top 2 guys you named.
Cordero: 44/50 = 88%
Wickman: 39/44 = 88.6%
Hoffman: 37/39 = 94.9%
Rivera: 37/41 = 90.2%
Rivera also has the most strikeouts, lowest ERA, and fewest hits per innings pitched out of everyone you mentioned. the yankees haven\'t been involved in many close games this year on either side of the ball, which is why Mo doesn\'t have as many saves as the other guys, and that\'s what makes it a moot point..
-
Wakefield: Complete game 3-hitter, career high 12 strikeouts, against the Yankees on the road. Almost certainly the best game he\'s ever pitched. Loss.

Chisox comin\' back to the pack the Tribe gaining ground. Bosox fighting to keep 1st place w/ The Yanks right behind them. The Angels keeping the A\'s @ bay. Wild Card battles. Man this season is winding down in Grand fashion. Is anyone else jacked up about this?
Oh and the Padres Magic # is 8!!

ummm.. the NL West should be removed from baseball.. just for this season at least. the division champs of this division ought to be ashamed of themselves stepping onto playoff grounds.

Yeah whatever guy. You play in the division you play in. Win it and you play in the playoffs. I do not expect them to go far but a Division Champ is still a Division Champ.

truly an amazing race for sure..
cleveland 15 games back of the ChiSox on 8/1, now 2.5 back with 5 games against each other to go..
yanks/sox tied in the loss column, 3 games head to head to close the season..
4 games separate 4 teams in the NL wild card race...
oh yeah.. it\'s on!

Wait \'till last year!

NL Overall standings:
1.St. Louis
2.Atlanta
3.Houston
4.Philadelphia
5.Florida
6.Washington
7.San Diego (@ .500)
San Diego Shwagres for sure.
but in all honesty, im just giving you a hard time for kicks leith. i agree, you win your division youre in, id be celebrating if the cubs had a 5 game lead at .500, but they dont so ill make fun of your team out of envy.
and yes, this home stretch is insane. i hope florida takes over the wild card, probly wont happen though. the AL is f-in crazy right now. crede\'s dong in the 10th tonight was HUGE, boston and new york both win.. its basically a four team race between Boston, NY, Chicago, and Cleveland to get there with one team waiting to bite the dust. the Chi-Sox have the best record, but i have a feeling Cleveland is going to sweep the last series and take over. i dont even want to predict the East, but my personal desires point to:
East: Boston
Central: Chicago
West: Oakland
Wild Card: Cleveland
funny thing is i could go 0 for 4 here. i love the hunt for October.

Angels clinch their 2nd straight AL West Title!
Now if the Yankees can just come through. Sorry Bosox fans but the Angels can beat the Yanks. If Cleveland can just keep it together the Angels won\'t have to worry about those chowdaheads.

What\'s with Baltimore puttin\' up 17? They got something to prove?
Go Jays!!

More likely a combination of they have incentives to hit, and the Yankees bullpen is the biggest joke this side of...the Red Sox bullpen.

this weekend is gonna be iiiiinsane. go any SOX. hope the yankees get spankied.

Saturday will give us one of the most absolutely bizarre and fucked up scenarios in the histroy of sports. Why?
The Yankees will beat the Red Sox at Fenway Park to clinch the AL East. At the same time, the Indians will lose to the White Sox, clinching the wild card for the Red Sox. There will be SIMULTANEOUS champagne celebrations in BOTH locker rooms at Fenway Park, one room with the Red Sox, one room with the Yankees. The Red Sox will be having a champagne celebration right after they lose to the Yankees, at home, and lose the division.
NESN\'S Hazel Mae: "Rem-Dog, I\'m here in the Red Sox locker room, where the Red Sox have just lost the division to the Yankees, and there\'s champagne everywhere!"
This is going to happen. Watch.

Padres are the National League West Champions! Yahooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Been a long time. 2nd yr. @ Petco and onto the playoffs. The team is on a tear and screw all those haters. The playoffs are another season all together. Bring It! Pads and Angels in the Series! Yeah I\'m talkin\' crazy but you never know!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh and only in San Diego is Patron poured along w/ the Champagne.LOL

that\'s some shit. as long as boston makes it to the playoffs i don\'t care how they do it. last night was a tough one.......with a yankees win and red sox loss. i think they should be able to win most of the games left, them being at home and all. we\'ll see what happens.

i was talking to my buddy last night about the same possible scenario.. you put it into great words, and yes this would be absolutely bizarre.. wow, i dont know i feel like if it happens boston will have a very low-key celebration and start gearing up for a sweep of the chi-sox (right? or would it be anaheim?) to head full steam into yankee stadium where they repeat in 7 games. awesome weekend ahead of us, i cant wait and in response to jocelyn\'s comment, you have no idea how happy i am that MY team isnt involved in this straight up sillyness. serious skid marks for sure.

me niether, its a good thing the braves wrapped up their 14th division the other nite. id like to see a playoff game sox v yanks on monday. in fenway.

man, i hope they get fuckin\' slaughtered.. kind of like a shitty offense and football, a quick three and out. but hey, youre right they are another season and SD has decent pitching, looks like theyre going to face St. Louis, though, thanks to Houston. that shouldnt be pretty, leith, but enjoy the post-season. (:imbitterasfuck:..) ;)

impossible. cant play your own division in the first round.

one game playoff winner takes division and plays white sox in the playoffs
-
i gotchya, but mathematically its impossible for them to tie now, i think? yeah its definitely impossible with 3 games in their series.. if it was after tonight 4 itd be possible but no they cant tie.
nevermind, im wrong.. whoops.
you can call me corky if you want.
they would both have to win or lose tonight for it to be possible, though...

The last time the Pads went to St. Louie they took 3 of 4. How many wins does it take to move on to the nxt round? That\'s right 3.
I\'ll take Peavy, Eaton, Lawrence and either Woody Williams or Pedro Astacio over the Cards pitching right now. Not to mention a bullpen w/ Otsuka, Linebrink and Hoffman. The Padre bats are hot and they have come from behind to win in a few games the past week or so. They are hungry and despite their record this team did show it can win when healthy as shown by the 22-6 record in May. They are healthy now, the second season begins Tues. Bring It!!

Too bad the one game playoff will be in New York, as decided by coin flip.
one game playoff winner takes division and plays white sox in the playoffs
This is also impossible, sorry. Well, at least in the first round. The White Sox will play the wild card winner in the first round if it is not the Indians. if it is the Indians, the White Sox play the Angels.

yeah, and who have they played in the last couple weeks leith?? thats right, their division, by far the worst in baseball. i believe they played their division for most of May also. bats are gonna go limp, pitching will faulter.

so if cleveland wins and boston loses theres gonna be a playoff game on monday.. i think both teams are going to win tomorrow.

and that will determine who the jankees play?

if boston is in the yankees will play the white sox i think.. which obviously leaves boston vs. anaheim again 1st round.

Dear Dave,
Since it seemed to work for you, please pray for a Sox loss, Indians win, than another Indians win on Monday to leave them schmucks out of the playoffs.
Thanks,

Now why would you say something like that?
I can see why you would want the Yankees to win AL East, but why do you care if the Sox win the Wild Card? Why do you care if they\'re in the playoffs? NY will beat them anyhow.
That was just plain nasty.

Because the world does not need more bloody socks beamed right into our homes. Because the bosox suck
Because it would be nice to have a change of pace and have Cleveland in the playoffs.
Because the bosox suck
Because it will be more fun to watch The Angels and Indians play.

Why? Because without the Sox in the Playoffs there is less drama and stress to deal with in the ALCS (pending both make it there), cos as they proved last year they are never down and out.

I thought everyone loved drama? :P

i love lamp.

Nope. If Boston is in, they are the wild card, and thus must play the team with the best record, who would be the White Sox. That leaves the Yankees to play the Angels. The Angels are masters of ser Yankee ownage. If I were a Yankee fan, I would much rather see the White Sox.
-
thats right.. i agree, i think the white sox are definitely the weakest team in the AL playoffs this year.. thats as long as boston does make it. the angels could definitely handle the yankees, but then again i wouldnt be surprised if ny swept. theyre on fire right now.

Sox up 6-0 on Yankees in 6th, Cleveland loses at home to clinch wild card for Sox.
Bring on the Pale Hose.
-
awfully frustrating watchin this game, schilling is shutting down our bats, and when we do get guys on base we cant get them home. and now its 7-0
and btw they have been talking like its bernies last season with the yanks, this should be his last season EVER.

his contract is up after this season. he hasn\'t announced any plans to retire. probably has a lot to do with how this season ends for him. he may come back next year as a back up center fielder.
-
he had a good run, he has what six rings, i think he ought to just let it go. almost everyone of his a.b.\'s now is a pop up. although i gotta give it to him for the nice sliding catch today. i\'ve noticed that the catches that used to be routine now get standing ovations and have the players patting themselves on the back. i guess the game aint what is used to be, but i still love it......
so now that the dodgers won, yanks play them tues at 8pm. bosox vs. as wofly calls em the pale hoes, or as i call em the colorless stockings at 4 on tues. 5:07 pm oct. 2, 10-1 sox, i gotta turn this shit off.

If it makes you feel better, I highly doubt any of the Yankees gave a rat\'s ass about this game. And way to spit on the greatest Yankee outfielder since Mickey Mantle on his way out. You just clinched the AL East yesterday and Bernie is one of the greatest Yankees of all time, and all you have to say today is shit about Bernie Williams? Yikes. I\'m afraid to see what you\'re gonna say when they lose to the Angels.
-
no it doesnt make me feel better, and wow, i was just sayin that i feel his career is over, not sayin he wasnt good in the past i dont think you need to bring mickey into this. but interpret how you want interpret. and if they lose to the angels, it means they are a better team.
-
Oh I\'m bringing Mickey into this. Great player, coulda been greatest of all time, too bad they had drains in the outfield back then.
I\'ll bring Babe Ruth inot this too. His curse is reversed and now working against the Yankees.
-
might as well bring in mr. october, donnie baseball, and kasey stengel in as well then. imo the mick was the best, not just becuase of his ability but because of his demeanor on the field and off. back in the hayday of alcoholic baseball he really held it together, to bad his liver couldnt take it or we could watch him at the old timers games. who do you feel is the best ever?
-
OK Pads/Cards and Angels/Yanks. This is my favorite sport w/ my favorite teams actually in the playoffs together!
I hope everyone realizes I will be posting shit talkin\' posts w/ no real concern for anyone else\'s teams. If I offend your team sorry but they suck. ;)
As to the best player ever? Babe Ruth. Pitching/Hitting and a PIMP ta boot!

who do you feel is the best ever?
Candy Maldonado.

Well it looks like early inning blown opportunities is going to bite the Pads in the ASS! They had plenty of chances to score on Carpenter and blew it. The Cards naturally got on a roll and it is now 8-0 in the 7th. Let\'s rally up Pads!
-
hey leeeeith.. ??????
:deadhorse
btw, a man on first with one out and coming out with nothing isnt exactly a missed opportunity.
nice ace Pads. that hurts.

What game are you watching? They had 2 ON w/ 0 outs and blew it. Eck missed a ball and we did not capitalize. Even so I still think they have a chance. Cards bullpen is not strong and The Pads will show better nxt game.
Mark you r right to be nervous.;)
-
<<< Breathes sigh of relief, classic Izzy to make the 9th inning way more exciting than it should have been. Bring on the Red Sux!
OOPs, I mean bring on the White Sox cause they have some early ownage....
-
and now late ser ownage, 13-2 in the 8th. Havent been watchin the game actually just turned it on, and i can say this is the first time this season i am dissapointed to see the red sox losing.
-
^^^^^ i don\'t even want to talk about it. the game was over in the first inning..........they better win tomorow and finish it off at home.
-
For all inquiries about Red Sox comebacks, consult your local Yankee fan.
-
Bummer loss but man I just love being @ a Playoff game. They come so infrequently out here. :sigh: Supposed to have a ticket for tomorrow to but I may have to work. :( Mussina threw a great game and the Angels just never could get going. Hope they figure it out tomorrow night.
Pretty much only good thing that did happen today was the Sox beating up the Sux.
-
you are mad lucky, shit i havent been able to see a yankee game since \'93. i believe we played the blue jays, and it was duracell battery day. the worst idea ever, give 30,000+ crazy new yorkers free batteries which then became flying deadly energy sources. anyway i totally wouldnt mind takin your place if you have to work. ;)

Thank you. It is my pleasure to point out the obvious elderly state of that tub of guts.
But the best part of last night was watching Cabrera, who the Red Sox dumped after he helped them the to title (i.e. Pedro) drive home the winning runs against the Yankees, while Renteria, who replaced Cabrera, failed to do so with the tying on in the ninth against the White Sox. Then again, Renteria more than made up for it with his 30 errors.
It makes sense: you snap the greatest curse in the history of sports and then you break up the team. Of course you do.
-
mcCanns HR: he\'ll need a rocket us his ass to catch that one. Shit"
as the game heads to the ninth and then on into atlanta, im calling a 3 to 1 BRAVES series win.
GO ROOKIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
GO BRAVES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Roger Clemens (a case study).
There is no question that the Rocket is one of the greatest pitchers of our time. But I have a theory that spending his formative years in that LOSER beantown environment has fouled his ability to win big games.
-
FUUUUUUUUUCK!!!!!
If Damon hadn\'t swung at that it would have been ball 4 and we would have tied the game! Come on, they wakled two for us, what more do we want! Cripes!

Hallelujah, Hallelujah, And on... My my well the Chisox are looking pretty good. Now It\'s Angels/Yanks. Oh boy.yea!!
-
For all inquiries about Red Sox comebacks, consult your local Yankee fan.
Just watched 10 minutes worth of a 2004 DVD and the pain from \'05 is already gone. I\'d trade 10 2005s for one 2004.
Wait \'till last year.
Good luck to everyone else.
-
What type of sandwich do you think Wells has in his glove in that photo? I\'m guessing a mixture of chicken shit and baloney.
Good fucking riddance.

Tragic Johnson.

Tragic Johnson.
What? I thought he was doing great. Freaking Torre never knows when to leave someone in.
-
ha.
Small ball.
Bye bye Birdie.
-
lol we got a game. The Angel defense started looking like the Yanks until Chone decided to be an Angel again.
-
wait... did Miller just say "TOUCHDOWN!!!!!!!!!"?!!?
-
The only pigskin in these playoffs went home after losing Game 2 to the White Sox.
-
wait... did Miller just say "TOUCHDOWN!!!!!!!!!"?!!?
LOL he totally did. That WAS funny, even though it hurt to laugh abt it.
-
Did Sheffield\'s throw reach home yet? Just seemed like it didn\'t have enough juice on it.
-
oh boy...
-
Yahoo!!! Can the Yanks please go a little bit deeper into their bullpen? Tomorrow\'s game is @ 4pm ET. Thank You.
-
Nice to see everyone hung around Yankee Stadium till the final out. PFFFFFTTTT!!!!!!!!! Looked like Shea in September. Shameful.
-
hope the yankees pull it off b/c the angels have had the sox number all year. id be more confident against the yankees. damn, i was shocked at the sweep. i havent seen boston swing at so much junk before. although El Duque looked downright nasty. ALCS should be fun, the national league just bores me right now.

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA Chisux were 4-6 against the Angels in the regular season and once the Angels get rid of those Pesky Yanks it\'s on to Chitown for some Dogs and kickin\' some ass!
Yeah Gordo root for those Sux, Your Cubbie Bros. will love that.
-
:hand:
what happened to supporting the Pads bro? thats right, the broom is in preparation.
btw, ive said it before, well before the playoffs even, ive never been a Sox hater. definitely raised a Cub fan, but still enjoyed going to Comiskey and cheering for the South Siders too. unless, of course, they were playing the Cubs. so please leith, please.

Oh I am still going to be going crazy for my Adopted Padres. They will win tonight.
However, I was raised an Angel fan and will die an Angel fan. I know my priorities. The question was poised in jest of course on who I would root for if the 2 were in the Series, w/o hesitation I said" Fuck the Padres". That\'s that.
-
ahh Pads... Well even though they out hit the Cards, those hits did not come in clutch moments. Well it was fun to see Petco filled for a playoff game. Well now if the Angels can just keep going all will be well in the universe.
-
i know they had the best record in the league and all, but i still think it\'s completely unfair for the cardinals to have had a first round bye..

Good luck to everyone.

hilarious.
how bout that game guys! longest of postseason history! walk off diggity-dong! that made up for the first 6 games of the NL playoffs being anticlimactic.

yanks came thru tough tonight as a whole. now i can sleep peacefully

That was posted a few minutes after that play. Before they lost the game.

wheels = off.

Well, theres always next year...I have to say, its pretty frustrating how A-Rod NEVER comes through to help out with a damn thing in the post season.:sigh:

Face it Yankee fan, your franchise is a huge joke. Let\'s go over some undeniable truisms, shall we? Brace yourself, the truth hurts. If you can\'t handle the truth, I suggest you leave for another thread now.
1. The Yankees are the most underachieving team in pro sports. Dave, I\'ll hold on to my Red Sox 2004 DVD, sure. Do you know why you cannot hold onto your Yankees DVD? Because it doesn\'t exist, because the last time the Yankees won, VHS was still 100 times bigger than DVD.
The Yankees have the biggest payroll in baseball every year, yet they have less success than teams with 30% of their payroll. The Yankees are the most inefficient franchise in all of sports. Year after year it is proven that it is possible to be successful in Major League Baseball with payrolls between $40 and $100 million dollars. So why spend $250 million when you\'re just as likely to win at $80 million? The reason is that Steinbrenner and Cashman know nothing about baseball. They just throw money at big names, which anyone could do. If they didn\'t have money, they wouldn\'t have any chance at all. They end up wasting huge sums of money in a manner that would get an executive at any other company fired. And you know who pays for it? YOU. Speaking of which...
2. The Yankee fan is the biggest sucker in professional sports fandom. Every year they come crawling back to suck on Steinbrenner\'s teat. They pay the highest prices in baseball for everything from tickets to parking to concessions to cable fees for YES Network. Yet for years their team is no better than lots of teams with far less payroll and far more fan-friendly prices. The Yankee brass takes advatage of the poor Yankee fan who is so brand loyal that they cannot help themselves but come back to this model of inefficiency. Tell me Yankee fan, if you bought a stereo for $1000 only to find that it was no better than the $500 stereo sitting right next to it at the store, wouldn\'t you return that stereo and not buy that brand again? Of course you would. Yet you continue to get ripped off by this franchise year in and year out, they are getting worse every year, and they let you come crawling back for more because they know you\'re a hopelessly devoted sucker eager for the next wasteful big-name signing.
3. Joe Torre is not a good manager.
Torre has only been able to win when he was handed the some of the greatest teams in baseball history. When they were winning 116 games a year they didn\'t even need a manager. They could\'ve batted in any order and still won. In the last five years, Torre has been handed a clear top-3 team and the highest payroll at the beginning of every season, and he can\'t get them to win. In fact, the ship is sinking further and further every year. 2003, lose World Series. 2004, lose ALCS. (In the worst choke in sports history.) 2005, lose in ALDS. You know what that means for next year? That\'s right, no postseason at all. Plus Torre allows them to play dirty, which takes a lot of respect away for your franchise. Cano\'s flagrant interference tonight while running down the first base line illicited haunting memories of A-Rod\'s embarrassing ball-slapping move from last year. Take off the blinders, Yankee fan, and realize that only a juggernaut-for-the-ages team can win under Torre.
4. The Yankees have been equal to the Red Sox despite spending 25% more every year. These two teams measure themselves against one another, and everyone else measures them against one another too. Over the last three years, the Red Sox lead the overall series 36-35. They are 7-7 against each other in the playoffs. Each finished with the exact same record this year and both lost in the ALDS. In other words, they are exactly equal, besides the fact that the Red Sox have won a championship in this time and the Yankees have not. Yet the Yankees outspend the Red Sox by 25% every year. Clearly the Yankees are inefficient and wasteful and not running their ship as tightly as Boston.
5. A-Rod, for all his talents, is a pox upon every franchise he plays for. $160 million for a grounded-into double play in the ninth inning of game 5 while down by two. Talk about a wolf in sheep\'s clothing. Forget all the numbers, you have to take Figgins or Mueller at third base for a post season run over A-Rod. They are winners when it counts, and dollar for dollar they\'re much more efficient. Mark my words, A-Rod will never win.
Yankee fan, when are you going to get mad and stop supporting this wasteful tease of a franchise? Stop being a sucker and root for the Mets. At least they don\'t underachieve.
-
Wolfman, i think that you are a sore loser and a poor sport.
-
Wolfman, i think that you are a sore loser and a poor sport.
OK, but to be fair, go back and look at all the "sore loser poor sport" Yankee fans who posted after the Red Sox lost and call them the same.
But this isn\'t about them or me, it\'s about baseball teams. Do you care to deny any of the undeniable truisms listed above?
-
Cano\'s flagrant interference tonight while running down the first base line illicited haunting memories of A-Rod\'s embarrassing ball-slapping move from last year.
Can you dig up and re-post the photos of A-Rod and the handbag from the 2004 MLB thread? Those pics were classic.
-

Im just fucking around bro. a little bitter, like im sure you were after the sweep.
very eloquent in your hatin\' on the Yankees Franchise breakdown. I think that the bias is just barely visable

Yeah, I\'m obviously a non-partisan third-party observer.
Next year is only a few months away. Good luck to everyone else.
-
you too pal
-
damn. uhh, yeah... wolfman. i will at least whole-heartedly agree with the A-Rod comments (#5). everything else is debatable, but a-rod should go play in japan. the other elements worked pretty well until a-rod blew it all out of proportion and began this steady decline.
i always liked jeter, a lot. hes a champ and a leader.
i never liked the yankees.
since the arrival of unlucky, excuse me -- the never-gonna-win-a-world-series, #13, i cant fucking stomach the yankees and hope to see them lose in the worst possible way.
-
Yahooooooooooooooooooo! Go Angels!!!!! Yankees Suck!!!!!!!!!!
Chisux The Angels Are Gunning For You. Angels In 6.
-
In the last five years, Torre has been handed a clear top-3 team and the highest payroll at the beginning of every season, and he can\'t get them to win.
yup. it\'s obviously Joe Torre\'s fault that his team couldn\'t hit a lick in the playoffs. what a horrible manager. what a wonderful truism!!
Plus Torre allows them to play dirty, which takes a lot of respect away for your franchise. Cano\'s flagrant interference tonight while running down the first base line illicited haunting memories of A-Rod\'s embarrassing ball-slapping move from last year.
:fucktard:
yeah, and had Cano gone with his only other option (running full-force right into Erstad), you\'d still be saying what a dirty player he was.. whatthefuckever.
Dave, I\'ll hold on to my Red Sox 2004 DVD, sure. Do you know why you cannot hold onto your Yankees DVD? Because it doesn\'t exist, because the last time the Yankees won, VHS was still 100 times bigger than DVD.
false.
but whatever..
A-WFUL
-
Wolfman, I\'ll agree that AROD is a class A choke artist and that his impressive season numbers came at meaningless times, but the rest of your argument is laughable.
How can you translate one of the most decorated teams in baseball history into your claims of underachievement? Especially coming from a fan of one of the longest standing jokes in MLB history?
Yankee fans come back every year knowing they will make a serious run @ a championship. Red Sox fans while impressive in their loyalty are the lovable losers of professional sports. Every spring they puff their chests in undying loyalty to a team that has burned them SO MANY TIMES. I love watching the downward spiral every year. It begins somewhere around August and always (except once in almost 90 years) ends in a picture perfect sweep, or maybe a ball trickling through someones feet, and deflating those chests and any dreams of a winter in which you can hold your chin up and be proud.
So you hold onto that 2004 Red Sox DVD, I only hope that the technology required to play that disk will not have gone the way of Betamax the next time your Sox win a championship.
-
the last few days of this thread make me laugh ;)
-
3 games in 3 days and the Angels are up 1 in the ALCS. Great effort by Byrd and the Bullpen took care of business as usual. Chisux did not take advantage of men on base and the Angels made sure to not make careless mistakes. They lose Colon but Washburn will be ready for tomorrow. Take 2 in Chicago? I hope so. GO ANGELS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
sox played like shit tonight. shot themselves down over and over. angels made no mistakes. thats why they won. this is going to be a great series with two nasty pitching staffs leading their teams to low-scoring, 1-run victories. sox better win tomorrow, otherwise a sweep is definitely in order.
-

-
i heard they are gonna cancel the rest of the playoffs cause nobody will be watching them
-
Screw the east coast and it\'s bias. Fox opened it\'s broadcast w/ "The big boys are gone" Pfft. One of the most storied teams in Baseball history is still in it(St. Louis) One of the best pitchers ever is still in it(Clemens) That "other"Chicago curse is still in effect and The Angels are just fun to watch. East Coast Media and those that eat it up= bunch of fucking idiots.

Leith, you can\'t deny that the Boston New York rivalery has been a consistent savior of MLB ratings.
I went to a few Houston games this year... people just don\'t show up at games until a playoff spot is definite.
How many strait games has boston sold out?
people are straight up band wagon fans out west.
-
^^^^^fair weather fans. boston has the true die hard fans

I heard a funny thing on the radio the other day, I think it was Dan Shaunessey or maybe he was relating something he heard someone else say... but anyhow... It was that "the rich fans in Boston stay longer than the rich fans in New York."
-

love the new avatar Dave. would be even better if it was a movie clip of the hit. I still can\'t believe that crosby got up from that hit.

I know, that was my initial reaction. Such a weird comment. And funny too.

Enjoy your cheap ass win Chisux. You have now gotten the Angels attention and you are about to get pummeled. Believe It!
-
Agreed, the Sox should be ashamed to claim last night as a victory. That was one of the worst umpire screw ups of a game I have ever witnessed.
-
A call is a call.
I don\'t agree with the it, although I was routing for the Black Sox.
It would have been huge for the Angels to take 2 from the Sox in Chicago.
-
wow. that was fucked up last night. the thing that sucks is that the sox still couldve won if that hadnt happened, but now their only victory in the alcs is tainted. by far the worst call ive ever seen, mainly b/c of the situation. wow.
-
The Angels deserve it just for having leith as a fan.
-
Say, anyone notice that A-Wad had just one more hit for the series than Ruben Sierra (yet Sierra had just three at-bats)? Figured I’d be helpful and point it out.
-
Pitch, what can we expect for the 2006 "New New Mets?"
-
That they will celebrate the 20th anniversary of their World Series win over the Red Sox and follow it up with something along the lines of 83-79.
-

Could also be billed as "20 years of Mets futility." I bet you a large mooz from Sally\'s that the Red Sox get another one before the Mets. Deal?
-
If the Mets win the World Series before the Red Sox, you owe me $1986 dollars worth of Sally\'s Pizza. If the Red Sox win the World Series before the Mets, I have to listen to you freestyle for 1986 consecutive minutes. Pact?

:hand: I root for 2 teams because I am a firm believer in supporting the team in the city you decide to reside in UNLESS this conflicts w/ your hometown team. I AM AN ANGELS FAN. I root for the Padres.
That being said Congrats to the Chisux and I pray the Astros make their first trip to the SERIES so they can put a sock in O. Guillen\'s mouth. OUT \'til nxt season. You think this Series will get ratings? Bahhhh.
-
Laughable man. well the Chisux just raped your hometown team thats confused about what is their home town.. and this series will no doubt get better ratings with a team once again trying to rid their own curse rather than the anaheim los angeles californian west-coasting pacific angels of earth of milky way of universe trying to win their 2nd in 4 seasons.
in other news, holy fucking PUJOLS. now that\'s just silly. i want to know who estimated the distance of that ball at a measley 412 ft.!?!?!
-
All I have to say about the Cards is: ARE YOU SER?
Houston, you have a problem!
-
All I have to say about the Cards is: ARE YOU SER?

Astros in 6. :duck:
But seriously, that home run was off the hook. Just hitting a homer in that spot would have been dirty enough, but to hit it halfway to the moon and get it stuck in the rafters so that it literally never came down, that\'s just in your eye. And you know they had already popped the champagne in the luxury boxes and in the bars in Houston. OOF!
-
Advantage St. Louis
Coming back home is going to work in the favor of the little red birds. However, I would like to see Houston win the NL.
My prediction is the White Sox all the way in 5.

Figured this would come back to haunt me. I guess my anger that evening wasn\'t really directed toward Mariano, but the Yanks in general and he just seemed to be my scapegoat.
anywho,
I am a gambling man and hopefully this will restore my credibility in this thread, hell who cares, this seasons almost over.
-
in my opinion, the season IS/ Has been over. the playoffs just are not the same without a NY Vs. Boston series.
-
I feel the same way but I like change in sports championships. I personally am sticking to the AL here and going with the Black Sox. Hopefully they don\'t throw the series this year.
-
Padres are the National League West Champions!
Oh and only in San Diego is Patron poured along w/ the Champagne.LOL
man, i hope they get fuckin\' slaughtered.. kind of like a shitty offense and football, a quick three and out. but hey, youre right they are another season and SD has decent pitching, looks like theyre going to face St. Louis, though, thanks to Houston. that shouldnt be pretty, leith, but enjoy the post-season. (:imbitterasfuck:..) ;)
Bring It!!
yeah, and who have they played in the last couple weeks leith?? thats right, their division, by far the worst in baseball. i believe they played their division for most of May also. bats are gonna go limp, pitching will faulter.
LOL man you are bitter. Well to you and all the other Haters. Waaaahhh! Why not jump on the below 500 teams in the division that really suck. We won it fair and square. Oh and when the Padres move on to the next round pls do not disappear from this thread. PLEASE?
-
I gotta say that Crede kid is pretty fuckin\' good!
Oh and Liz Phair is HOT!!!!!
-
crede is good, had him the one fantasy season i was able to win, but there is no way Liz Phair is hot, attractive yes, but hot no
-

Whatever. Any chick that old and looking THAT good AND can play guitar is HOT in my book.
-
What kind of genre would you put Liz Phair in? My boy, his wife and I were just trying to figure this out.
This is going to be a good series. My MVP of the WS is Chicago\'s 3rd baseman Crede. Unbelievable.
-

Liz is I would think along the lines of mainstream Alt-rock but played on AOR (Adult Oriented Radio)stations.
Ya know when I posted that abt Crede I was thinking along the same lines. He has the ability and the knack for getting the "key" homer when needed.
-
For some reason I though Liz Phair was country but then I remembered she headlined (?) the Lilithfair(?)
Thinking back over the post season up to now, the name I hear the most is Crede. He made some terrific plays at 3rd and his bat is going to get hot. Hopefully the linemakers and bookies don\'t get to him and a few others ;)
-
say it ain\'t so....
-
it\'s funny,
I have seen the movie, "8 Men Out" more in the last 2 weeks then I have in my life.
coincidence?

crraaazy game tonight.. there is NO WAY the sox will lose this series. oswalt will probly win on tuesday, although it\'s still nearly a coin flip with garland (timmy p look alike btw) going against him. im just shocked at how clutch the sox hitting has been. it doesnt make any sense, every time they need something to happen it does. and yes, crede is just ridiculous. podsednik ZERO regular season HR\'s. Lidge unstoppable before pujols\'s moonshot. what the funk is happening?
i feel like we\'ve been watching a movie about great sports endings lately. outside of baseball, that Notre Dame USC game was as good as college football gets. its also crazy to see what tom zbikowski is doing for ND, i was his f-ing backup QB in high-school!! not to mention all those other crazy NCAA games. and how about the NFL today? edinger 56 yarder to win, the seahawks pick with under 30 secs., philly\'s blocked FG...... i love sports.

last year our sox, this year their sox

you need 2 sox on before you put your shoes on

Poll:
Do you think there is some economic benefit of changing the name from Anaheim Angels to L.A. Angels?

Most of the people in OC are lemming idiots w/ NO sense of history @ at all. They also suffer from a huge inferiority complex when it comes to L.A. The jerseys will sell.
-
what a shame.
-
Yeah it\'s kinda like Chicago\'s "second city" status to NYC and the reason Chisux jerseys are being sold in Cub memorabilia stores. Selling out @ that.
-
dont know too many sell outs my man. i know plenty of cub fans who are rooting for the sox but still feel repulsed when someone tries to stick a Sox hat on them. still missing whats wrong with hoping the sox win over the astros/angels/red sox.. if the cubs were the NL representative id wish the sox nothing but the worst.

Must be weird having a rivalry within the city.

Funny I told my buddy during the last game after the grand slam" I guess the Chisux are going to sweep" He laughed when that game got tied up saying " you want to retract that?" I said "watch". A few minutes later the Series is 2-0. So tonight\'s classic game is just making it more evident. They have a Series record w/ the longest game in min. and tied one w/ innings played and all 3 of the games so far have been close. Nice touch to a championship that has taken a looooooong time to come back to the Windy City.

Congratulations White Sox and their fans, 2005 World Series Champions.
-
there will be riots and murders on the south side, no doubt. if anyone on here has been around comiskey you know there is no need for explanation.

i think its in order spacey. the sox have their best chance of blowing the astors out tonight. we\'ll see how Backe handles the pressure. in all honesty, though, theyll probly win by a run in a crazy ending.
-
I just read an article in the newspaper that said the Astros were the 1st team in 50 years not to have an African-American on the roster. just a little interesting FYI
-
all the cosmic forces have come together to get them this far... might as well get one more set of wacky calls to push on through to the sweep.
-
Well, it\'s still 2005 and this is still baseball related, so I guess it goes in this thread. The curse of the Epstino has begun. If you are reading this message, the Red Sox will not win another World Series in your lifetime. Hey, you got one, that\'s more than you can say for millions of other Sox fans.
-
i figured id post this here as opposed to starting a new thread, rodriguez is the al mvp.

actually, it was probly his stellar playoff performance that pulled it out. :chin:
-
fuck a - rod. he\'s a gaylord
-
A-Rod finished second behind T.O. in the voting for "Player Who Is The Greatest Pox Upon Their Team."
-
one of only four players to win at two different positions (won\'t need to worry about ortiz doing that)....and one of only four players to win with two different teams.
-
How does A-Rod spell MVP? May Vanish in Postseason.
-
(and probably will)
-
Who says this thread is done? Hell no! All the Red Sox have to do now is re-sign Nomar and Clemens and you might as well start minting the 2006 World Series rings.
BTW, this thread should be renamed the "ONE and ONLY .info MLB thread", merged with the old threads, and continued on every year. In 10 years it will be fun to read back on it.
-
Clemens was my favorite whenI was a little kid, it would be very weird to see him ina sox uniform again
-
Clemens going back to Boston just to retire?
-
looks like the dodgers might have some pretty good potential next year.

cant believe we\'re going to watch Johnny Damon in pinstripes. craziest move i can remember ever seeing. 4 years too.
the Cubs on the other side of the league made a big pick up with Jaque Jones today. Pierre leading off, Jones #2, Derek Lee hitting third, and Aramis Ramirez cleaning up. thats a fantastic front four. im real excited. we have speed, contact, power where it should be. pierre actually has more stolen bases than strikeouts in his career. thats crazy.
-
Jonny Damon is now a CF for the Yankees
