Lots of space to fill.

I\'d like to see another trip to Crystal Bay materialize, as well as a collaboration w/another band (and thus an upgrade to a bigger venue) in San Francisco.

Hmm, hopefully I\'ll jump aboard this tour for a bit.

Good to see them getting out again

Looks like the freakout will be the first show at home after tour, I love the first show at home after tour, I\'ve seen some classics in that scenario

Someone make sure the boys stop in Mitchell, South Dakota on their way to CO for a visit to the Corn Palace.  It\'s a funny road stop that will make them laugh, in a world where riding in a van may not make for the best of conditions.

Also, if you\'re in northern/western Minnesota or North Dakota, you should ser consider checking out the Broken Axe gig.  It\'s a fun venue and was a good time this summer.  I\'m glad to see they\'re going back.  The Fargo Ho-Jo has lovely accomodations, as well.

Hell Yeah!  Somebody needs to give us a little speculation on what additional cities or states might be included - just tell us the general plan.  Sept. 29th between Cleveland and Minnesota needs to be filled in.  I definitely vote for  Iowa City, since Ohio State vs. Iowa is the next day, and being an Ohio State alum I can get tickets for that game!   Also, if they are playing Arizona on Oct. 22nd, this means they should be able to squeeze in some southeast dates on the way back?  So what\'s the deal? Is there at least a general plan to do the south the last week of October????

There are definitely unconfirmed dates awaiting confirmation.....I wont begin to mention anything since I really havent seen the list in a while and do not want to embarass myself or the band by providing bunk information.....

Either way, I cannot wait for this tour.  On the heels of the Moxie Epoxy release and a bunch of new gear, The Breakfast should be owning faces across this great land....

If there are any .infoers in the areas where the tour is heading and you want to help out with promotions, please contact Spacey (aka some guy named Jeff).....

Seriously...should be the usual sort of routing, west by the Notrh, returning south.....but still missing a lot of the Souteast, which we need to handle a bit like we have been doing the Midwest...several short swings in a short time to pump it up.

when southeast dates do get tackled, please try to work in a saturday gig with ancient harmony. the two were supposed to play together back in 02 or 03 (and i was coming up to ct for it), but ah broke up the week or so before. i\'ve been dying for that combo ever since. i realize the financial implications of pair two bands just because one guy wants to see them together are rather dire, but nonetheless, it\'ll be a blast!

Yet again their timing blows. They are out West a week prior to the largest jam festival in the west.
Vegoose just happens to be the 27th -31st.
Seems like a little better planning and they could have gotten some great exposure by playing a club/bar date in Vegas during the fest week.

I agree (By the way I saw Ancient Harmony in Tallahasse/ Albany/ Atlanta last weekend and they are def. the 2nd best band behind the Breakfast right now)- to do this they need to play some southeast dates.  So why the hell not play the southeast?!?!?  I can do poster and flyers in Atlanta and Athens GA if need be.  I\'m telling you Athens is really receptive to bands like the Breakfast.  They had one bad experience in Athens in Spring 05 but that was on a Monday.  If they play here on a weekend I guarantee a packed house.

Anyway I\'m definitely flying somewhere to see the Breakfast this fall.  Probably Ohio/ Indiana/ Illinois/ Iowa and maybe even out west again.  Give me some more speculation in terms of which states may be included!!

Cool man!  Those were the best shows; the Atlanta show was a bit anti-climactic, being on a Sunday night at a venue that finishes at midnight.  But I\'d love to hear all three.

Anyway,  we don\'t want to hijack this thread so if Gencs or Steffmo figure out the rest of the tour dates please let us know as soon as they are confirmed, or even before they are confirmed. And try to squeeze in some Southeast shows!  At least North Carolina - they\'ve got a tight touring circuit and overall NC is very jamband friendly.

Uh it doesn\'t take a genius to see that due to the FF @ Toad\'s they are not going to take advantage of Vegoose. How do I figure? Well the FF is on the 27th and the three guys in The Breakfast have no money so how are they expected to travel all the way back out to Vegas AFTER the FF seeing as they will most likely barely break even on the tour.
So does that answer your question?  A little thought is all anyone has to expend to reach that conclusion. sheesh.

Well....as usual this forum forgets there are at least 2 sides to every business isuue.  We did have a lot of conversations with the Vegoose forls...and the band is on their radar screen.

However, at the end of the day we were not offered a date.  True, a spot could open due to a cancellation, but our feeling was we needed to get on with booking the tour, and didn\'t want to sit on our hands waiting for Godot....i mean Vegoose.

I do think we are getting to the point where we can work with these guys, and expect to in the future.  Just didn\'t happen this time.

Oh I fully realize there are 2 sides to the issue. I was merely venting and it just seems like every time this issue comes up it is sideskirted with the response of well maybe next time, we have talked with them etc.

It happened w/ High Sierra this year and maybe Bonnaroo also?
We all know Superfly knows about The Breakfast so why are they constantly turned down?
Also in my post starting the ruckus I posted the word seems as in \'I do not know for sure but it seems\'..... This was speculation and I will continue to speculate on these matters until things seem to change. I thought the moe. gigs were a good start that\'s for sure.

Peace Vic.

Well Leith...it CERTAINLY isn\'t because they aren\'t offered the band.  We continually look for opportunities to do stuff like the Moe dates, and there will be more.  Of course EVERY other band out there looks for these opportunities as well.  High Sierra....they told us after the San Fran dates they simply didn\'t feel the band.

Yes...its true....some people don\'t like the band, but its their perogative. Obviously in the case of Vegoose they felt that there was a band that fit their bill better.

As much as your ever arrogant personality wants to think you could do everyone\'s job better than they can,  I doubt this is the case.  You could however, manage to piss them off enough to make sure no one hired the band.

But its cool.  I still love you.

Btw I HAVE listened to the trio and I can say I don\'t care for it as much w/o a key player.

Jesus fuckin Christ Leith.  So is your way of getting back at us for busting your balls about bailing?  Coming back and doing exactly what you have learned time and time again pisses everyone off? No one on here wants to hear it, bottom line.  Your are completely entitled to your opinion, and your welcome to express it, this is america.  But, you know from experiece none of us want to here your negative nelly attitude.  We love the band, no matter what.  I was very sad to see Jordon go and I still think about it and miss him.  And no no one has forgotten about what he did contribute to the band, but this is where we are now, and we are living in the moment.  As far as all this business shit goes, let the "suits" deal with that your job is to go to the show and have fun, or don\'t but don\'t come on here and whine and cry about it.

That Monday is Colombus Day, so no work for this guy.
I\'ve got this thing about seeing all 50 states and Idaho is still on my list...

*Sorry to sidetrack from the squables. ;)

straight fact is, at the size they are right now, they\'re lucky to be making it out to the west coast twice this year.  now, you could either just be happy they are trying to spread across the country or you can bitch because it could\'ve been a better week for ya.  which is pretty petty if you ask me.

Straight fact I could really give a fuck less when they come out here. I was actually thinking of the band and NOT myself when I made my comment.

Unlike a majority of you I think of what is good for the band and not just what I would like to see. Every bitch I have had or idea provided has been in the interests of the band getting more visibility yet you all think I am just being selfish. Grab a few mirrors people.

oh and as far as being lucky they make it to the west coast twice in a year? That is such BS there are NUMEROUS bands that have bitten the bullet and tour extensively ALL year. It\'s called touring, The Bfast go on jaunts.

yeah, everyone could be doing whatever their doing better than how they\'re doing it at the present time, but thats life, no one\'s perfect.  why harp on the negatives?

Yeah you are right.  Everything is just fine, half assed business is the norm for this band so why should it change? People COULD be doing better but they are not so blow it off. Yeah great business sense you have there Jim.

They have a Booking Agency that has no clue about the jam scene and it\'s audience or even who is in the band they are booking. :sigh:

As far as all this business shit goes, let the "suits" deal with that your job is to go to the show and have fun, or don\'t but don\'t come on here and whine and cry about it.

edit: sorry this is partly also in reply to a PM I was sent.  I got a little carried away.

First off you\'re late to the table
Second Find Jeff to unwind your panties
Third you can still love a band and not accept all they do w/o question.

ok, just comparing to the first two bands that come to the top of my head:

moe. in \'06: 1 four night LA run in July, and a 10 show run upcoming in September.

the Disco Biscuits:  High Sierra Music Festival and no individual shows set as of yet.

now, whether you like it or not, those are two of the most popular \'jambands\' from the Northeast.   And clearly, both have been playing less West Coast gigs in \'06 than the Breakfast.  I got plenty of great ideas that would get the band more visibility(pre.moe.down throw.down 2.0, pretty sure that was my idea), but I ain\'t so standoffish about it.

Yeah, considering the Fonghoulish Freakout conflicts with Vegoose, this whole debate regarding Vegoose is totally moot.  Leith, you even admit that they don\'t have the money to fly back out to Vegas right after the Freakout.  If they were to go out west, come home to play Halloween, and then fly out west again immediately, we would be sitting here saying how dumb it is to fly out west when they just got back from out west.  Besides, Vegas has a shitty jam band scene anyway.  They could play a gig during Vegoose, and come back a year later and play in front of nobody.  So anyway, I don\'t mean to pile on Leith - I\'m sure I\'ll see you out west either this tour or the next - just relax and enjoy, it will be a blast.

So to move on with this thread, somebody needs to fill us in with the last of the Midwest dates so I can go ahead and make plans for that.  I still vote Iowa City for 9/29, although Columbus Ohio (they never did follow up on the show where they opened for ekoostik hookah in Columbus), Purdue, Chicago, and Madison would also be excellent choices.

I just looked at Jambase and the 9/29 show is at House of Blues in Chicago.  So who\'s in?   Maybe the east coast is still where it\'s at but if some of the Indiana / Wisconsin people can make the trip for this it will be awesome.  This tour is happening at the pefect time for me so I just might make it to Cleveland, Chicago, and Minnesota (although Cleveland on a Thursday has some dooz potential).

The Las Vagas Jam Band Society (http://www.lvjbs.org/about.htm) actually seems pretty active in promoting upcoming shows in the area...I met a group of kids from out there on the moe.cruise in 2004, and they were awesome folks!

If the band were to be out there again, it would be good to seek them out for help with advertising, flyering, info, etc.

I don\'t know what you all are argueing about.  There is no Vegoose date....so the entire point is moot.

Our job is to make the best tour we can with folks that hire the band, not those that don\'t  For those that don\'t, we have to prove that we can do the business they expect to see when they hire a band.  When we do that, we get hired.

Its not at all about who is good, or who is better than any other band.  It has to do with the buyers perception of the business we will do.  the more folks at the shows, the better promoters, hence better venues are attracted to the band.

Back in the Kroop days Josh would bullshit his way into some gigs, which is cool if you do the business.  But more often than not the band did not, so some folks are standoffish toward the band.  I don\'t blame Josh...he did what he had to at the time.  But the fact is, in the eyes of some promoters, the band was in over its head in certain situations.  Not playing wise, business wise.  That perception started to turn around last year, which is why another CD.  It takes a long time to change industry perceptions.

But we are making  steady headway, even if Superfly hasn\'t come to the table.....yet.

My hope is that next year is big growth for the band.  The finances are better, the record is great, the guys are happier than they have been in ages.  As much as some don\'t want to admit it, the Jordan thing festered for a very long time.  I give the guys a lot of credit for dealing with it, and the result has been the best vibes around the band in years.  True, some songs will miss Jordan, but either new arrangements will evolve that don\'t miss him, or those songs will fade away.  There are plenty of songs.

As to Jordan, I have referred him to three good situations already, and there will be more.  It was difficult for him, and I\'m sure that now that the dust has cleared he will emerge in different situation.

As to the trio/quartet debate, its up to the guys.  When they feel they need another guy, they will find someone.  Some really cool folks have asked about the gig.  Alex, Ira, and I all trust them to do the right things.  All I know is that right now we have a happy band, and that translates into good shows.

Enjoy the music and have a good time.  Stop worryng about stuff you have no control over.

Did they even hit the Northwest during the "Mandler years"?

I only remember the tour with Wolfman as road manager that hit the region in Spring 2002.

this is great news.. ill absolutely be in portland on the 12th, i think im going to cancel my St. Helens climb pass on friday the 13th so i can head up to Vancouver and then head down to Seattle on Saturday. its only two weeks before my stint here in WA is over so it\'d be a great way to wind down.

anyone out there hitting up these shows??

From Jambase:
10/20 Fais Do Do, Los Angeles
This is a real jamband haven. Good for them to finally get a booking in L.A. that will actually benefit them.
14 Below was always good to them as far as attendence but it\'s a hole.

Oh and I saw it is a Wagatail production.
These guys put on great shows and do awesome promotion for said shows.

IMO this a much better venue than Temple Bar. I\'ve recorded there before and they didn\'t charge $40. It\'s also about 3 or 4 times the size of 14 Below. The only drawback is that it is in a pretty shady neighborhood of LA.

It\'s just south of the 10, near the Crenshaw and La Brea exits. It\'s in the southern part of the midcity area near Jefferson park and the Crenshaw district. I went there last year for Al Howard and Perpetual Groove and if I hadn\'t found a spot right in front of the venue, I would have been very nervous about leaving my car on the street.

This looks like a great tour - no complaints here - props to Steffmo.  It looks like I\'m going to do the Ohio State vs. Penn State game, and then the Breakfast in Cleveland> Chicago> Minneapolis.  Out west looks really tempting, but I have to choose either midwest or west.

So Tuesday is SF... does this mean Wed. or Thursday will be Santa Barbara or Santa Cruz?  Also it looks like the Breakfast has some competitition - Iron Maiden plays in Irvine CA. on 10/21, the same night as the Winston\'s show.  If I\'m in LA that weekend, it\'s gonna be a tough call to pass up Iron Maiden to go down to SD and see the Breakfast.

I\'d personally like to see another date in S.F./Berkeley/Oakland/Mill Valley on the Wednesday, then see them booked to Santa Cruz for Thursday, but that is because I live nearby.

I\'d also like to see a booking at the Crystal Bay Casino on Sunday or Monday.

They should definitely play somewhere on Wed/ Thurs.  Maybe it\'s best to just focus on the bay area.  But I\'m calling a travel agent right now to arrange travel to LA for the entire week of the Breakfast\'s SoCal run so I\'m kinda hoping for Santa Barbara on Thursday.  As for Wed., Berkley or Santa Cruz makes the most sense.

Of all the central coast towns, Santa Barbara seems the most probable location for Thursday night, unless they try to double up on the L.A. area.

It\'s tempting... especially if Bruce Dickenson is there with all the original members.  This may be our last chance to see Iron Maiden, and there will always be chances to see the Breakfast.  If the Breakfast gets a Santa Barbara gig on Thursday 10/19, then I prob. will see Iron Maiden because I\'ll be able to see the Breakfast the previous 2 nights.  Like I said it\'s a tough call.

Oh Bruce is def. there. However it will def. NOT be the last time you will have a chance to see Maiden.

The tour after this one(which is supporting A Matter of Life and Death) will be in support of the next installment of the History DVD\'s. They will be dragging the Powerslave stage set out, touching it up and bringing it out on tour!!

Well in that case I might lean more towards just seeing the Breakfast, mostly because I prefer smaller venues.  At small venues you can go in and out, smoke, drink, etc.  Iron Maiden is awesome but ampitheatres kinda suck regardless who\'s playing.    But my flight is confirmed- I\'ll be in LA from 10/18-10/22 so I\'m def. seeing something.  Hopefully there will be a Santa Barbara show on 10/18 or 10/19 so if anyone hears anything about that let me know.

They should try to play at Jupiter in Berkeley on Wednesday (the place I took you and Chris to, where you drink beer outside by the stage).  Not sure what type of money they pay bands, but it would certainly be better than not playing at all on that evening.

There is a gaping hole in their schedule in between the Tuesday in SF and Friday in LA.  It would be crazy not to schedule a Santa Cruz or Santa Barbara gig.  I even checked the website for Soho, the best venue in Santa Barbara, and they are wide open on Thursday Oct. 19th.  Buquebus says there is no gap to be filled between SF and LA, and I don\'t really understand that statement, unless the band needs a rest during those days.  And as for the gigs on the way back, clearly Atlanta, Athens, GA, or Asheville NC are the logical choices.

I\'ve actually been to Jupiter in Berkley, and it is a very small venue with basically no dance floor room around the stage, but it is a very nice venue - and a smaller venue might be ideal for a wed. night gig.  I agree that that wed/ thursday needs to be filled and if there is no better option you might as well play Berkley.  But also keep in mind I know a ton of people who live in Santa Barbara, and if they schedule a gig there I can bring a sizable crew to the show.

Cool.  So hopefully Soho is still a possibility.  Now we just need the authorities to make a few calls and its on.  And this is not one dude begging for a gig because it\'s convenient for me - everybody is in agreeance that Soho 10/19 is a great idea.

Were you out on the deck/patio out back?  That is a good spot for a Wednesday night.

The crowds there usually talk over the bands and nobody dances, but perhaps a Breakfast feast would shake up the crowd.

I probably sound like a broken record, but maybe somebody can explain why the Breakfast has no gigs scheduled out west on 10/15, 10/16. 10/18, and 10/19 (with only the tuesday 10/17 San Fran gig in between).  It seems like a lot of nights paying for hotel rooms and not making any money or progress.  Maybe they need a break to enjoy the scenery - hell I don\'t go to work everyday so I can\'t criticize.  Maybe someone who is riding in the van knows what the plan is.  Are they going to hang out in San Fran for 5 days and enjoy the kb?

Seems like another opportunity missed, unless they seriously combed through every other viable club in the state for offers:rolleyes: .

They didn\'t seem to have any trouble finding Monday/Wednesday gigs last tour.

I can understand if they don\'t want to play the Sunday and Monday before the San Fran gig - those are the two worst nights to play and it would be a perfect chance to take a break and avoid getting burned out.  But it would be a missed oppurtunity not to play the wed/ thursday after San Fran.  I\'m sure they plan on something because it would be totally insane not to play either day - probably in a few days we\'ll see a gig pop up on jambase.

The main sound guy from The Space in Hamden, Chad, will be joining the band on the road as sound guy.  After the tout he will do some dates, as will Dobs.

As to dark dates, of course they are being looked at.   But on this tour everyone is trying to be a little more selective and some dates have been turned down because they would\'t earn enough to warrant the wear and tear on the band.  Some of the mid Cali markets are not places the band has a history....and as much as it might astonish you, not every booker we contact writes a check.  At any rate, some of those dates are already filled.

It will be interesting to see if chad has an effect on the guys sound. Not downplaying his abilities, but every tech adds their own touch the same way every guitarist has their own sound. There are def some things I love about dobs mixes, and other things I care less for. With someone new sitting behind the board for the tour I\'m interested to hear some of these shows.

welcome Chad!

Dobs is doing some stuff for other regional sound companies...one\'s with more money.

Dobs is a good sound guy.  He gets a good sound.  But he also gets very passive and has a tendency to "set it and forget it".  But whatever...he\'s been a net plus for the band.

Josh is an excellent LIVE sound engineer. I work w/ soundguys pretty much every job I do and he is one of the best I have heard when it comes to getting the most out of a band.

I know I am bummed he will not be on tour but I am sure his replacement is no hack so I guess I am in for a totally new Breakfast experience which is kinda neat.

Thanks for the update.  I agree that it is better to rest than to play a guaranteed doozie,  but I think it is unlikely that will happen in Santa Barbara.  Anyway my plans are pretty much set: hiking in southern Arizona for a week, and then the LA and San Diego shows.  I\'ve got my plane ticket, and I\'ve contacted my crew in soCal so I will bring at least 3 or 4 people to both shows.  So who\'s in for LA/ SD?  Leith?  Al Z? Hopefully I\'ll see you guys there.

I will not be down in L.A. and S.D. this time.  I have been invited to a camping/rafting trip in the Sierra foothills the weekend before and will be in new Hampshire the weekend after the Breakfast tour.  Looks like only the tuesday in S.F. for me.

Hopefully we\'ll get to meet up again on the next Breakfast swing through CA.

10/18/06 Sweetwater Saloon Mill Valley CA.

OK the Sweetwater is a tight place but I really do not see The Breakfast going over all that well there.
Sorry but maybe if they were playing acoustically I could see this.

I have been there a couple of times and it is cool they get to play a place w/ alot of history in the SF music scene but, it is a small Saloon w/ a VERY LAID BACK crowd.

Hopefully the $$ is worth the risk of a major Doozie.

Mill Valley is certainly a beautiful place - I spent like 7 days there (Marin Headlands and Point Reyes) when I went out west on the Spring tour.  I know Al Z is pumped for this, but I\'m still waiting for a SB gig.  But maybe if they are up in Marin County they should play the Mystic Theatre in Petaluma CA on Thursday.  I saw UM there once and it\'s a great venue.  There is also Smilely\'s in Bolinas CA., a hardcore oldschool hippie joint, that would be an otion on Thursday.

Good to hear they are breaking into the Northbay music scene.  Gives me an excuse to head up to Marin for dinner and a rock band on a Wednesday night.

I hope they stay in CA a little longer on the next streak, with stops in Arcata, a second trip to Crystal Bay, Santa Cruz, support of another band in a large S.F. venue etc.

12 Galaxies in S.F. is definitely a step above the Conecticut Yankee (from the last tour).

Personally, if they were offered either a trip to S.B. or a stay in Petaluma for Thursday, I\'d prefer to see them spread out the tour and head back to S.B.  So beautiful down there!  They did well for a Sunday night gig on the last trip there.

O.C. could also use some Breakfast love.  Wayne, are there any appropriate venues for the band in the beach towns?

As for beach towns in Socal, they should do Hermosa Beach - the Lighthouse and Patrick Malloy\'s are both good venues, always packed, right on the beach.

Those are both cool places. I was just at Patrick Molloy\'s to record Delta Nove a couple of weeks ago. There\'s also the Pitcher House in Hermosa. The Blue Cafe in Long Beach is a nice venue. Another might be the Marlin Bar in Huntington Beach. I record Cubensis there almost every Tuesday night. Maybe an opener at Coach House in San Juan Capistrano.

Its already there:

http://www.archive.org/details/dnove2006-09-13.flac16

It was a good, except for getting a parking ticket. The Frog and Toad encore is probably the best track. I hadn\'t seen them since last December and was dissapointed to find out that the trumpet player, John Harrington, is not with them any more. He moved to the bay area a few months ago. The horns don\'t sound quite as big anymore with just Rob. The recording came out good and it is a good listen though. I had it in my car for a few days.

I know you like the Dead so you mignt want to check out some of my recent Cubensis recordings on archive too. Try:

http://www.archive.org/details/cubensis2006-02-07.flac16

or

http://www.archive.org/details/cubensis2006-01-31.flac16

The 2/7 show has this guy Riz (http://www.myspace.com/rizorkestra) on vibes for most of the show. The Help > Slip > Franklins has a really jazzy jam and the Cassidy ain\'t bad either.

The 1/31 show had no special guests. It\'s just a good clean recording of an all around great show.

I saw Delta Nove once at a fancy hotel lounge in Long Beach - I forget the name.  But anyway there are lots of great venues in the LA area, and if they play one of the beach towns it will be a totally different crowd than the crowd in downtown LA.  It\'s like playing a whole different city without the travel headache.  Now book a damn show in soCal on 10/19!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just thought I\'d note the advent of the tour has coincided with falling gas prices.  Should make things a little easier on the collective wallet when travelling 10,000+ miles.  In fact, I\'ll bet they\'ll save several hundred bucks, as the gas prices have trended downward by at least 50 cents (from my observations) over the last few weeks.

Well I\'ve given up waiting for a 10/19 show so I am going to go gamble in Laughlin Nevada that night.  If you\'ve never been to Laughlin, it is far superior to Vegas.  $3 blackjack instead of $15 blackjack in Vegas, and $1 craps instead of $10 craps in Vegas.  And $50 hotel rooms instead of $250 hotel rooms.  I\'m never going to Vegas again.  And no, you cannot get good deals in Vegas anymore even if you go off the strip.  Everything is way over priced and they treat you like shit.  In Laughlin, they serve you free beers quicker than you can pound them and believe me I can pound beers quick.

Anyway - Chris F, Wstielau, Buquebus, Leith(?) and whoever else will be in SoCal - see you there this will be awesome!
