Post by: Klout on July 30, 2008, 02:28:05 pm
So according to yoda....

teases, inversions, etc. = minute and insignificant details/deviations and noting them can seriously jeopardize one\'s ability to properly enjoy a show

I love how my words get twisted.  I have not problem with teases, inversions, etc...  My point was that all these DB descriptions of song are too much.  If the song is inverted or there\'s a tease, cool.  If the end is played first, then a song, then the rest of the first song, then just simply note it.  Do you really think that non DB fans are going to know what dyslexic is or do you think they\'re actually going to search the forum for a meaning.

Okay I see that some clarification is needed...

This thread was created not just for the inverted/dyslexic discussion, but for the noble purpose of documenting the general string of hillarious yoda\'isms that now pass through this board on a daily basis.

Pleas to moderators to erase it will not be heeded, but feel free to stop in and defend your beliefs whenever you like ;)

It\'s okay Yoda.

We all know Escher\'s Etchings "Parts 1+2" are really just one song called Eschers Etchings.

Agree with me, and I\'ll agree with you. We\'ll call it a fair trade.

yoda what is your stance on TLATG>OE?

Yes TLATG came first but they were  beautifully in love and married to each other  when they first met.

Was breaking them up the right thing to do?

Will they ever get back together?

If they played OE>TLATG would you consider that to be an inverted reconciliation or simply two seperate songs played in random order?

It definitely started as one song.  EE debuted on 11/15/01 and wasn\'t separated until Part 2 was played on its own on 5/21/03.  So, I definitely agree with you.

TLATG debuted on 10/26/01 to be exact and was play again on 11/2/01.  TLATG and OE were played together from 3/2/06 until TLATG was played on it\'s own on 11/22/06.  They were played together again on 3/10/07 and then that ended it.  I would hardly call them married; they were played together for less than a year in total.  I wouldn\'t put them in the same category as Scarlet Begonias/Fire On The Mountain

Was breaking them up the right thing to do?

Who gives a shit

Will they ever get back together?

Who gives an even bigger shit

If they played OE>TLATG would you consider that to be an inverted reconciliation or simply two seperate songs played in random order?

I would consider it two songs, nothing more, nothing less.  I\'d much rather hear Ahoy! > TLATG >Mayfly rather than TLATG > OE!

as far as eschers goes, I\'m pretty sure vic (verizon studio producer) was responsible for the part 1/2 split. Until they started mixing the bonafide album it was always one song. when kroop came around with the singles (who else still has one?) it was eschers part1/2 and cosmic spaceway. It was explained to me that the verse/chorus part of eschers had more potential to get airplay without a long instrumental introduction, so they separated it so that radio stations would be more likely to play the song, simply as eschers 2. Soon after the single came out, the song started being played as separate parts.

(goes back in lurk mode)

I\'ll "ism" myself this morning.  Since "The Breakfast" has cemented itself and it\'s name as such, wouldn\'t it be something if.....instead of a Timmy Tour show on Thursday, October 30, 2008....Tim, Ron, Adrian and Jordan got together for a Psychedelic Breakfast Reunion Show celebrating the 10th Anniversary of the band and played tunes from that were played during the 98-99 era, which included:

2001, Ah.. The Name Is Breakfast Baby, All Along the Watchtower, Another Brick in the Wall, Another One Bites the Dust, Attraction To Shade Ditty, Beat Box, Beef Barley, Black Magic Woman, Born to Be Wild, Bouree, Brain Damage/Eclipse, Bring it on Home, Bugs, Castles Made of Sand, Chameleon, Chris Farley, Come Softly, Crossroads, Cut Me Some Slack, Dazed and Confused, Deep Elem Blues, Drunk Monk Bar, Earache My Eye, Epiosde 1 (Happy), Evil Ways, Fire, Flower Punk, Franklins Tower, Frankly Po Zest, Funk, Funk-A, Funky Bill’s Circus Cliche, Garcian Fishbowl, Give it Away, Give Up the Funk, Gladys Pimp & Kangaroo’s With Me, Good Times Bad Times, Gypsy Girl, HDX, Heather, Hell in a Bucket, Help on the Way, Hot For Teacher, Hush, I’m the Slime, In Memory of Elizabeth Reed, Lady Madonna, Language of the Gods, LDZ, Legend of a Mind, Lemon Song, Light My Fire, Lit, Little Wing, Love Lake, Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, Lurk, Maggot Brain, Magic Fingers, Manic Depression, Memory of a Free Festival, Moby Dick, Mommy What’s a Funkadelic?, Mooboo’s Voodoo (Episdoe 2), Mr. Green Genes, Night of the Thumpasorus Peoples, No Glove No Love, No Quarter, One Way, Out, Oompa Loompa Song, Oye Como Va, Peace Frog/Blue Sunday, Peaches en Regalia, Penny Saved, Phaddy Boom Baddy, PMDTV, Prom ’97, Puppetry, Roadhouse Blues, Scarlet Begonias, See the Light, Sex Machine, Sir Psycho Sexy, Slipknot!, Son of Simpleton, Soul Sacrifice, Space Oddity, Special Secret Song Inside, Stand, Stayin Alive, Steak Frustration (1st Movement), Steak Frustration (2nd Movement), Stormy Monday, Summertime, Summertime Blues, Sunshine of Your Love, Super Bad, Superfly Phaddy Fat, Surfin Bird/Duodenum, Susie Q, Sweet Leaf, Tatanka, Thank You (For Talkin To Me Africa), The Acid Queen, The Chicken, The Grand Scheme of Things, The Vermont Song, Touch Me, Tribal Funk Affliction, Uncle Freddy, Voodoo Child (Slight Return), Walk on the Wild Side, Warped, Weekapaug Groove, What the Funk, Whatever it is I just can’t stop, Willie the Pimp, Women and You Enjoy Myself.

Imagine the possibilities!  This will never happen, but it\'d be something if it did.

How do you celebrate the 10th Anniversary of a band that didn\'t make it 10 years?

Now, that\'s a whole other conversation that I don\'t want to get into.  I could argue the conversation your way (which I somewhat agree with), but I will argue to other.

Psychedelic Breakfast - Started in 98 with Tim, Adrian, Ron and Jordan

The Breakfast - Same band, same music, changed the name for a business reason

The Breakfast - Jordan left, Tim, Ron and Adrian remained, 3/4 of the line up remained and the songs remained

The Breakfast - Matt joined, Tim, Ron and Adrian remained, same songs plus some new originals

The Breakfast - Ron left and Chris joined; 1/2 of the original line up remained and half is new.  If they were going to be a new band, this would be the time; change names and start playing new tunes and supplement the set with some old.  The band decided against this; they kept the name, the majority of the songs are the same, with a slew of new originals.

Bottom line; the band decided this was the same band, not the fans

If The Who can still tour with two original members and still be The Who, why can\'t The Breakfast?

I\'m not going to act like my opinion means a whole lot because I haven\'t been to one since FF3.  I think that the band should do the OH gig.  I\'m sure that there was a time when fans of the dead and phish wanted to play certain gigs in their home state or surrounding area, but I think that it\'s important that the band show that they care about what the rest of the fans out there care about, not just New England.  NY/CT/VT/Mass will always be the band\'s home, but in order to succeed, they need to expand that comfort zone.

A show in OH is a step in the right direction.  Oversaturating the northeast doesn\'t do enough to reel in the newbs.  Other bands do not have to play near their hometown on every important night.  TLG, for example, played CT on NYE last year.

one or two friday/saturday gigs falls through or a band member has something else going on, or practices/studio time  thats what your left with.

Check out this response I got to the add on craigslist listed below:

My initial email to the guy was:

I\'m interested in:

- Juno
- No Country For Old Men
- The Big Lebowski
- Across The Universe
- Almost Famous

Would you be willing to sell the 5 for $20?  I can meet you on Saturday.

This was the response I got back:

Come on, dude. It\'s not good enough for you, that I\'m only asking 5 and give an emense list of dvds to choose from, but you want mostly new releases and 4 dollars each. See now, the only way that I\'d sell those new releases for 4 each is if someone came to me with a rather long list of dvds, roughly 20 or so. You come to me, with 5, 3 of which were released to dvd no longer than 2 months ago (if that) and you request me to lower the price. Hey, I got an idea, why don\'t I just give you these dvds for free... right? I mean I don\'t have any needs, I don\'t need the money, you just expect that it\'s craigslist and you should get a good deal (or should I say, steal)  but you don\'t stop and think, you know maybe theres a reason this 19 year old kid is selling his entire dvd collection online, maybe he was arrested 3 nights ago FOR RINGING A DOORBELL, and was slapped with 300 dollars worth of tickets, and is now being sued by the family for harrassment. Not to mention he quit his job 2 weeks ago, so money is scarse as is. I\'m asking 5 each. Take it or leave it. Because you know these dvds are new releases and no one would sell them for 5, go to amazon or ebay, fuck it, I don\'t even want to do business with you... Cheap son of a bitch. No, no, that\'s right, you\'re not cheap.... you\'re a "bargain hunter." The pharse cheap fucking bastards gave themselves to make them seem okay in the public eye you scrounge garbage cans and flimsy garage sales looking to save an extra penny here, a dime there. You know, make the other man drop their price of their merchandise, to better your situation, fuck the other guy.. its a dog eat dog world.. FUCK YOU, keep your 20 bucks

Is there ever going to be a Mean Pete reunion?

I\'ll make it short and sweet... If there are any Brian Wilson or Beach Boy fans or just fans of good music, pick up Wilson\'s new album, That Lucky Old Sun... I just finished it and though it pales in comparison to SMILE, it\'s really good.  I think that you can still pick it up at Best Buy this week for $9.99... Thats all.

Random question... I notice that there are only 6 TB dates scheduled through the remainder of the year... Any chance that they will be coming back to Donnegals before the year is out?

I consider myself lucky as I was literally one of about 10 people that heard the only Ahoy! without May Fly... coincidentially, it was also the first Taboo (at the Taboo Club).

honest question - LAYLA - one song or two?

the two parts were written and initially played separately, so i\'m curious how you feel about that one?

I honestly can\'t say that I have an opinion one way or another.  I\'m a Clapton fan, but didn\'t know that they were two seperate songs at one point.  I think that in that intance, I like them as one song because the second part is instrumental and it flows.

As for the song "which shall not be mentioned", I know that it\'s melded into one at this point, but I remember the first time I heard it, when it was on it\'s own and it sounded like an Irish/Boating/Viking like song and I connected with that.  When it was tagged onto the end of Mayfly, it kind of lost that feeling.  I still love the "whole" song, but the ending is what makes the song for me.

New Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band Album Due Out January 27, 2008

Bruce Springsteen\'s new album "Working on a Dream" has been set for a January 27 release on Columbia Records. "Working on a Dream" was recorded with the E Street Band and features twelve new Springsteen compositions plus two bonus tracks. It is the fourth collaboration between Springsteen and Brendan O\'Brien, who produced and mixed the album.

"Working on a Dream" Song Titles:

1. Outlaw Pete
2. My Lucky Day
3. Working on a Dream
4. Queen of the Supermarket
5. What Love Can Do
6. This Life
7. Good Eye
8. Tomorrow Never Knows
9. Life Itself
10. Kingdom of Days
11. Surprise, Surprise
12. The Last Carnival

Bonus tracks:
The Wrestler
A Night with the Jersey Devil

Bruce Springsteen said, "Towards the end of recording \'Magic,\' excited by the return to pop production sounds, I continued writing. When my friend producer Brendan O\'Brien heard the new songs, he said, \'Let\'s keep going.\' Over the course of the next year, that\'s just what we did, recording with the E Street Band during the breaks on last year\'s tour. I hope \'Working on a Dream\' has caught the energy of the band fresh off the road from some of the most exciting shows we\'ve ever done. All the songs were written quickly, we usually used one of our first few takes, and we all had a blast making this one from beginning to end."

"Working on a Dream" is Bruce Springsteen\'s twenty-fourth album and was recorded and mixed at Southern Tracks in Atlanta, GA with additional recording in New York City, Los Angeles, and New Jersey.

I know that this is common-place these days, but looking at the schedule, there\'s 3 TB shows in the next two months and 14 side-project shows in that same time period.  Are there more TB dates to be announced?  I know that I only get to one or two shows a year at most, but I love to listen to them...

Not to mention one Breakfast show and one side project have already been canceled due to weather this winter.  Booking alot of winter shows in the Northeast doesn\'t make much sense.  Very few bands tour through this area during winter for just that reason.

Quote from: Wall St Journal;216789

The Hidden State of Culture
New Jersey often brings to mind pollution and shopping malls, but it\'s an epicenter of artistic talent

New Jersey is America\'s secret treasure-house of culture.

If that strikes you as a proposition out of an absurdist play, consider a sampling of the gifted figures who have either come from Jersey or made a home there: Bruce Springsteen (N.J.\'s state songbird); Frank Sinatra, Frankie Valli; Walt Whitman, William Carlos Williams, Allen Ginsberg; the painters George Inness and John Marin; the photographer Alfred Stieglitz; Stephen Crane, Philip Roth, Junot Díaz; and David Chase, creator of "The Sopranos."

California? Too much fantasy, too much hazardous sunlight and too much obsession with software and hard bodies. New York City? Too much reality, too little sunlight and too much obsession, period. Everywhere in between? Riches, to be sure, but no place has New Jersey\'s tightly packed diversity, its quick changes from urban to country, from mountains to coast, from gritty to gorgeous.

Of course, think "New Jersey" and cultural epicenter doesn\'t immediately spring to mind. Instead, the name summons up unsparing caricature: grime, gangsters, pollution, ugly highways, Byzantine shopping malls, Saharan parking lots and a level of culture somewhere between troglodyte and troll.

Even the nickname "Garden State" seems to be something like a defensive reaction meant to fend off ridicule. In 1954, when the state legislature passed a bill adding the sobriquet to license plates, garbage disposal had long been a crisis in Jersey. Not only did the tiny state lack sufficient space for discarding its waste, but it had become a dumping-ground for garbage from other states. Gov. Robert Meyner vetoed the bill, writing, "I do not believe that the average citizen of New Jersey regards his state as more peculiarly identifiable with gardening for farming than any of its other industries or occupations." The state legislature promptly overrode his veto, and the rest is license-plate history.

New Jersey\'s small size has a lot to do with both its much-inflated deficiencies and its virtues. A lot is packed into limited territory. Urban squalor is squeezed up against dairy farms; picturesque villages right out of a New England landscape are a sneeze away from sulfurous factories and malodorous highways. For a lot of people, caricature of the state\'s deficiencies is an efficient way to reduce its multifaceted nature to a clear meaning.

The jumble of contrasts is, on the contrary, the source of Jersey\'s remarkable harvest of talent. It drives certain people to either build a unified artistic sensibility out of the divisions around them, or to create art unhindered by a narrow identity.

At the same time, you can refine Jersey\'s countless dimensions into two polarized elements: industrial and pastoral. The struggle for dominance between them is at the heart of the American drama -- the Civil War, for example, or the urban/agrarian friction that has shaped the schism between liberal and conservative to this day. It could be that Jersey is so representative of America\'s original strife that dismissing the state as a crude and unlovely place is a good way to sweep certain national anxieties under the rug.

But New Jersey\'s fractured personality is the very reason for its (hidden) cultural preeminence. After all, no less than one-fifth of this heavily industrialized and densely populated state is taken up by the Pine Barrens, a gigantic primeval forest of pine and oak buried like the unconscious in southern Jersey. Even in Newark\'s black ghetto, the young writer Leroi Jones (Amiri Baraka) could imagine that "the invisible mountains of New Jersey linger where I was born." Paul Robeson -- Phi Beta Kappa scholar, athlete, law-school graduate, actor, singer -- might not have thrived in a less faceted place.

Then, too, there is the particular way Jersey is positioned next to New York. Unlike Long Island and Connecticut, from where you have to drive through New York City\'s boroughs or Westchester to get to Manhattan, you go from Jersey straight into the glittering towers of Gotham, which confront you dramatically no matter what approach you take from the Garden State. For New Jerseyans, Gotham exists as ever-present aspiration, temptation and either haunting or competitive contrast. That could be why you find Queen Latifah\'s wild, river-spanning energy in Philip Roth\'s antic intensity and vice versa. And perhaps why Dionne Warwick sings "Promises, Promises" with such robust pathos. "Things that I promised myself fell apart..."

So why all the antipathy toward a place that is also the first colony to ratify the Bill of Rights, that contains numerous beautiful towns and villages, that boasts an ocean, mountains and a vast forest among its natural wonders, and that has more horses per square mile than any other state?

The glee that New Yorkers take in belittling their neighbors to the west is especially energetic. There are two reasons for this. First, people living in New York City are convinced that without New Jersey blocking their view, they would be able to see the rest of the country. Second, New Jerseyan Aaron Burr killed New Yorker Alexander Hamilton in a duel, the tragic consequence of negative remarks that Hamilton made behind Burr\'s back at a dinner party (probably something like: "Burr, that moron from New Jersey"). That Hamilton was gunned down on a Weehawken, N.J., cliff overlooking Manhattan\'s spectacular streets -- and not, say, on Fifth Avenue -- only added insult to injury. New Yorkers have a long memory.

But these local grievances do not explain why New Jersey\'s worth eludes the rest of the country. Angus Kress Gillespie, a professor of American Studies at Rutgers University, accounts for the national scorn in two words: "The Turnpike."

The New Jersey Turnpike, that is, a 148-mile, 4- to 12-lane monstrosity that snakes from the state\'s southeast corner north to the George Washington Bridge through some of the meanest terrain in the civilized world: macadam deserts; belching smokestacks that make Gary, Ind., look like a Scottish pasture; trucks roaring on every side of you as though you were strapped to the bottom of a Boeing 737 during takeoff; strip malls that go on and on like the laughter of a lunatic.

Because it is the very essence of America\'s ugly industrialized and commercialized underside, the New Jersey Turnpike has impressed itself on the national imagination more than any other element of the Garden State. Bruce Springsteen\'s genius has been precisely to take that negative image and infuse it with positive energy.

"Springsteen has made the Turnpike\'s blighted landscape a source of almost cinematic drama," said Jim Cullen, the author of "Born in the USA: Bruce Springsteen and the American Tradition." "He transformed it into the vivid setting of riveting journeys that finally matter more than the city glimmering across the Hudson."

Springsteen\'s isn\'t the only artistic vision that has drawn a universal meaning out of the Garden State\'s more sordid particulars. Mr. Chase, the genius behind "The Sopranos," chose Essex County as the setting for his extraordinary tale of lust, greed, vanity and pride among a group of small-time gangsters, thus bestowing on the third state the mythic timelessness that Thomas Hardy once conferred upon the English heath.

Mr. Chase himself was born in North Caldwell, N.J., in the very environs where Tony Soprano and his colleagues live and do business. As a child during the late \'40s and early \'50s, he made regular car trips with his family to visit his grandmother in Westchester. To his young eyes, New Jersey\'s half industrial, half naturally wild landscape was "a magical vision of a huge mystery," he said. Gazing out at it, he was "completely transfixed."

The mystery was, specifically, the Meadowlands, a 28-square-mile swath of marshland in northeastern New Jersey, a stone\'s throw from Manhattan. At the time when Mr. Chase ogled it from the backseat of his family\'s car, the teeming swamp had not yet become the giant landfill it is today. Industrialized pockets vied for space with rivers, rushes and wildlife. Even as a teenager, taking the bus into the city to film school from his parents\' home in North Caldwell, Mr. Chase remembers looking out over the "rivers like glass, the miles after miles of reeds in the water, and the factories" and thinking, "this is America, strong and big. The brute beauty of the factories, the winking airports, made me feel alive."

Call this sense of enchantment an outgrowth of the "Parkway," as opposed to the "Turnpike," dimension of the state.

The Garden State Parkway, that is, a 173-mile meandering highway stretching from the southernmost tip of New Jersey at its coastline to its northern border with New York state -- a winding road with capacious lanes; a broad, verdant, tree-filled island running down (much of) its middle; wooded boundaries; limited entrances to prevent congestion; bans on trucks, billboards and any kind of commerce along its way; gentle curves designed to keep drivers from being lulled to sleep; and -- naturally, in the home state of Sinatra and Springsteen -- "singing shoulders" that make the wheels rumble if a drowsy motorist starts to drift from the road.

The Garden State Parkway is something like the fulfillment of the modern dream of harmony between nature and technology -- where rivers like glass meet winking airports. If the car is one big part of America\'s soul -- Springsteen: "The girls comb their hair in rearview mirrors/And the boys try to look so hard" -- then the Turnpike and the Parkway reflect two basic aspects of American existence: our unflinching approach to the practical facts of life, and our irrepressible romantic tendency to try to transform them.

In his epic poem, "Paterson," William Carlos Williams spoke for the factual Turnpike when he famously wrote: "No ideas but in things." Williams\' fellow Patersonian and disciple, the Parkway mystic Allen Ginsberg, took the side of Parkway romanticism when he referred in his epic poem, "Howl," to "nowhere Zen New Jersey" ("nowhere" being a compliment for Ginsberg). No wonder Philip Roth called his memoir of growing up in Newark "The Facts" -- and then proceeded to undermine them.

Most of the greatest Jersey cultural figures combine Turnpike and Parkway characteristics, as if New Jersey embodied those two aspects of American life long before the construction of its asymmetrical arteries.

George Inness, America\'s first great landscape painter, made pictures that were both more immediate and real than those of his predecessors, and at the same time more personal and introspective. Alfred Stieglitz, born in Hoboken, pushed realism in photography to new limits, even as he was perfecting a hazy, impressionistic style. In his novel "The Red Badge of Courage," Stephen Crane -- Newark, Port Jervis, Asbury Park -- pulled off the near-impossible feat of using dreamlike language to make war shockingly actual.

When Marlon Brando -- whose breakthrough film, "On the Waterfront," took place in Hoboken -- started to run out of steam in the \'60s, Neptune, N.J.-born Jack Nicholson came to the rescue of American film. The young Mr. Nicholson was tenaciously Turnpike in his abrasive explosions, and profoundly Parkway in his dreamy outcastness. From there, realism in American acting had two places to go: Parkway calmness and integrity (Meryl Streep, Bernards High, class of 1967); or Turnpike disorientation and bizarreness (Tom Cruise, Glen Ridge High, class of 1980).

"Integrity," in fact, is a word you hear a lot when people talk about Springsteen\'s music or Mr. Chase\'s artistic vision. Maybe it\'s because New Jersey politics is known to have a certain Turnpike quality that an idealistic, Parkway conception of integrity looms large in New Jersey\'s collective imagination.

Among other things, integrity in Jersey terms means not judging by appearances. Frankie Valli: "Ahh, ah-ah-ah-ahh (Rag doll, ooh)/I love you just the way you are." Springsteen: "You ain\'t a beauty, but hey you\'re alright/Oh and that\'s alright with me."

No wonder Tony Soprano can\'t stop thinking that redemption is right around the corner, though his temperament keeps him right where he is, stuck in his own nature.

Seeking something like a unifying vision of New Jersey, I asked Mr. Cullen what he thought Springsteen, the Turnpike alchemist, might ask Tony Soprano, the Turnpike product who is also haunted by ducks, bears and other forms of Parkway nature. "I understand you," Mr. Cullen said, "I sympathize with you, I kinda even like you. But your fatal embrace of your sickness is killing what you love."

And what question does Mr. Chase imagine that his creation -- sprung partly from his boyhood desire to plumb the mystery hidden in the lights and rushes of the Meadowlands -- might pose to the state\'s epic warbler, if Tony were to meet Bruce in some warp of space and time? "He\'d ask him for concert tickets," Mr. Chase said.

Lee Siegel\'s most recent book is "Against the Machine: Being Hum

I remember Adrian posting something about a mexacali show in the works. Maybe you\'ll get an "Ahoy"

I remember that post also... Hopefully it will be before August; I\'m not going to be going anywhere remotely after that for a while... I\'m not touching the Ahoy! thing with a ten foot pole; I don\'t need the kind of backlash that I got after the last Donegals show...

My balls are still in-tact, thank you.  I work almost an hour from my house, I\'ve got a 1-year old, my wife is pregnant with our second child.  Do you really think that it would be a smart idea for me to say, "honey, I know that you\'re tired, but can you take care of the baby so that I can go down the shore for a show tonight? I\'ll be home around 3:00, but that should leave me about 3 hours to sleep before getting up to take care of the baby and head off to work."  I know my limitations, basically Friday/Saturday within a 30 mile radius of Clifton, NJ.  Just being realistic.

Dude, I go out and I do see the band when they come to NJ, but I\'m not driving 2 or more hours each way to go to a show that\'s going to last no more than 3 hours.  I missed some shows in NJ last year because I had a family member in the hospital and my grandfather died.  I went to the last Donnegals show after my aunt passed away.  I go to shows when I can, get off my fuckin back.

Don\'t listen to all these ball breakers.  I respect you for being a good husband and dad, and for not trapsing around the northeast.

There comes a time in a man/woman\'s life when you just need to do what you gotta do.  You can\'t be driving hours and hours away and leaving behind your responsibility.  you can\'t.  I would be fuming mad if i had a man who did that.

You see them when you can, that\'s the best we can all do. ;)

I think the point al is trying to make here, is that you can\'t generalize all spouses like that. SOME wont care at all if you wanted to go out and travel to a show (galenas, oldnewbie, scott, elisa, etc) some will go as a couple (todd/robyn, jen/brandan) though these don\'t usually have kids, or the kids are older, or if they do they still go, just not that often as couples (oldnewbie, scott, probably more) and some have the music being something that their spouses either don\'t "get" or there are any number of other reasons and they simply don\'t go that often but do when they can.

point being, just because db\'s and skys spouses wouldn\'t allow them to go out/they wouldn\'t want to leave their spouces at home alone doesn\'t mean that al\'s girlfriend would care if he went, or would even encourage it.

everyone\'s different. isn\'t it great?

I think ryan would agree with me here....by no means, am I NOT allowed to go to shows.  I choose not to go to certain shows out of respect because mark cannot.   He works just about 24/7.    Traveling out of state or out of town when you have a) a mortgage in this economy, b) a loving partner who would like to have you home at night and c) in ryan\'s case, a baby and a preggers wife....is just not really that responsible financially and/or emotionally.

I really think the key to a happy relationship IS having different activities away from each other and being different people YET its also reaching compromises.  Going to 3423743429857923 shows a year with or withour your significant other is good for some but maybe not the recipe for others.  I survive quite well with my one-three shows a year.

Yes, Paul, life is good and its awesome we are all individuals and different. ;)

What I think Yoda was trying say is:   I\'d like to have a some shows in NJ once in awhile, because when there are NJ shows, I can and choose to go.

Let me make this point crystal clear - my wife doesn\'t "not allow" me to go to shows; if anything, she encourages me to go out.  The thing is, there are other things out there to do than go to a Breakfast show.  And yes, most of the time, I would rather spend an evening with my wife and daughter than go to a concert, sorry.

That being said, there have been 5 shows this years, none less than 2 hours away; not going to happen.  As for going to see the band when they\'re in my back-yard (NJ), there haven\'t been that many opportunities lately: 3/21/08 (I was there even though it was my wife\'s birthday the next day); 7/10/08 (An opening slot on a Thursday night an hour away, not going to happen with work at 8:30 the next day); 7/25/08 (I was there and my aunt passed away that morning); 9/13/08 (I didn\'t go because my grandfather died and I was with my family).  That was the TB love for NJ in 2008.

I\'ve love going to see the band, but my wife, daughter and family come first.  If there\'s a band that I want to see comes to my area, I make it a point to try and get there, whether it\'s The Meadowlands, Giants Stadium, Prudential Center or Garden State Arts Center.

Bottom line, if the banned played north jersey more, I\'d be around more. There\'s nothing more I can add to this conversation...

Anyone have a video clip of Bruce trying to climb up on the piano during the half time show?  That got almost as big a laugh where I watched the SB as the crotch slide.

Sorry, but when was the last time you saw a 60 year old on stage with that much energy.  For a lot of people, the SB was the first time they saw him live and that\'s a shame.  The man used to put on marathon shows without relying on 15+ minute jams.  That being said, his shows still run close to 3 hours.

And that\'s exactly the type of comment that I\'d expect to hear from someone who\'s never seen or heard a Bruce show.  He/They are not a nostalgia act; it\'s not like going to see The Rolling Stones or Aerosmith who have basically played the same concert for the past 30 years.  Some highlights from this past tour

2008-05-07 (Bruce did a benefit and played two complete albums / Darkness On The Edge Of Town & Born To Run)

He also dusted off some gems from the past:
- Summertime Blues (Last Time Played 1982-05-29)
- Held Up Without A Gun (Last Time Played 1980-12-31)
- Good Rockin\' Tonight (Last Time Played 1981-02-16)
- And Then She Kissed Me (Last Time Played 1975-08-23)
- Mountain Of Live (Last Time Played 1975-12-31)

There\'s rumors that on this tour, he will take time out of the main set to play a complete album from his catalogue.

Not really dissing it.  If you go back to 00-01, I still made it know that I prefered J&M to anything on Wooster.  Now that I\'m back in NJ, I prefer a slice from a local joint rather than drive 1-1/2 each way for pizza (that I would most likely have to wait on line to get).  It\'s symantics.  When my wife came up for a SB party one year, she had some Sally\'s and didn\'t like it at all - the burnt cornmeal turned her off.

Just want to get a sense and see I\'m the only one still following tradition:

- Is anyone getting ashes today
- Is anyone fasting today
- Is anyone abstaining from eating meat today

I apologize.  What I meant to say is does anyone follow the religious law surrounding fasting and abstinence for Ash Wednesday and Good Friday; also abstaining from eating meat on Fridays during lent.  I do and I wanted to know if I was alone in this practice...

I was raised catholic and I always found this funny. I honor Jesus dying from crucifixtion I\'m not going to eat meat on Friday.  That\'s like saying in honor of the veterans who lost a limb in service of our country I will trim my fingernails.

The thing that stinks is, I always have to ask the pizza place that I eat at whether they made their sauce with meat, because that would be a no no.  Luckily, around here, they don\'t on Ash Wednesday and on Fridays during Lent.

Yeah, i had K-8  at one school,  all 4 years of high school, and  i  even  went one  year to a catholic college.  And then somehow i broke loose;)

And i know  how you  feel with the grandmother. Except mine is Irish ;)  i was  raised by mine. Let\'s  just  say our house was interesting,  she has a framed photo of the pope in her bedroom.   And a giant crucifix in the hallway. And little religious statues around the house.......while my grandfather, he prayed to the god of baseball  ;)

The positive in this is that I got to hear my baby\'s heartbeat... I just wish that some family member that only live a couple hours away would come and pay their respects...

Okay... really pissed at best buy... I\'ve been a loyal customer since Peck introduced me years back...  I ordered Pearl Jam - Ten (Deluxe Edition); the two disc/1 dvd version back on 2/22.  I go into my account today to check on the status and it\'s back-ordered.  So I call CS to follow-up on this and they claim that they sent an email on 3/22 stating the back-order status, but I never received the email.  They tell me that I could transfer the mail order to a store pick-up; but they can\'t because there\'s no inventory in any of the stores around me.  So I call one of the stores and they have the inventory in their hands, but they can\'t change my order, I have to call back to CS.  So I call, but because there system shows no inventory in the store, they can\'t change the order.  I ask to speak to a manager and they tell me that one is not available and they\'ll have to call me back.  After that, THEY hung up and ended the call.  I called back furious trying to speak with a manager, but I kept getting disconnected.  I finally got a CSR that actually knew what customer service was and tried to help me, but was unable to get a manager for me.  All I wanted to do tonight was watch the Unplugged DVD after my daughter and wife went to bed....

On a side note, a manager from BB did call me and apologized for the poor customer service I experienced.  He called the local store and had them hold 2 copies for me even though I only ordered 1.  So in the end, I got two copies of the Deluxe Version and paid for one; also, he added thousands of bonus points to my best buy membership car, so I\'ll be receiving $20 to best buy in the mail in the next couple of weeks.  I guess sometimes it\'s good to be screwed over...

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/howaboutthat/5130579/Man-breaches-Asbo-banning-him-from-playing-Bruce-Springsteen.html

Quote
(http://www.telegraph.co.uk/telegraph/multimedia/archive/01381/bruceSpringsteen_1381780c.jpg)

A Bruce Springsteen fan has been given a community order for breaching an Asbo that banned him from playing one of the singer\'s CD at loud volumes.

John Norman, 61, regularly played Springsteen\'s album Born in the USA on loop into the early hours. He was also accused of hacking down plants in his neighbours\' garden in Berry Hill, in the "Beverly Hills" area of Mansfield.

In May last year, after 112 complaints, he was given an Asbo, which banned him from acting in a manner likely to cause nuisance, harassment or alarm to the neighbours, Robert Papp-Burnett, 54, and Patricia Bartrup-Jones, 63. He was also banned from harassing them verbally or physically.

At Mansfield Magistrates\' on Wednesday he was given a 12-month community order with a supervision requirement after breaching the Asbo 13 times. He was also ordered to pay £250 costs.

Afterwards, Mr Papp-Burnett said: "He seemed to have only a limited selection of loud rock music and he would play football matches very loudly on the TV. We just about put up with that but it was the name-calling of my partner - that was the last straw."

Norman, who declined to comment, had previously apologised for routinely greeting Miss Bartrup-Jones as "fatso". He said that the disagreement between the neighbours had broken out over some tall plants, which were creeping from one garden into another.

Springsteen plays Glastonbury Festival in June, before dates in Dublin and Glasgow the following month.

If you\'re trying to bait me into an argument why \'99 was the peak, you\'re barking up the wrong tree...  In my honest opinion, I would say that the band started it\'s peak in \'99 with 4 songs on MTV\'s Undressed and continued through the summer of \'06 when Jordan left the band.  If you\'re looking for a pinnacle, imho, I would have to say that it was March 16, 2004.

I know that they guys have a lot left in the tank, so, once they get the shit righted, they\'ll be back in business...

I know that you\'re obviously joking...  Bigman = Wolfman...

That being said, I just pissed off a couple of friends because I told them that I didn\'t like Slightly Stoopid.  They\'ve been raving about these guys so I grabbed a show off of archive... To me, it sounded like new SKA with a couple white guys doing a poor reggae imitation.  I listened to the whole show (after wanting to turn it off several time during) and gave a critique and man, you\'d think that I came out and said that Elvis or The Beatles sucked...  Anyone else have any thoughts on these guys?

I\'m seeing him at the meadowlands on 5/23.  The seats aren\'t the best, but they\'re far from the worst.  I\'m in section 101 about halfway up.  It\'s behind the GA floor and just behind the soundboard.  It should be a really good time given the shows that he\'s been putting on; as long as the NJ crowd comes to party.  The NJ shows have been a little lacking lately, but I think that\'s because he\'s been playing too many shows in the same location and a lot of people are going to multiple shows.  He varies his setlists from night to night and takes requests, but if you go to more than one show during the tour, you are going to get repeats.  Trust me, I\'m not complaigning.

What happened to Toad\'s Place and The Webster?  It seems like they\'ve been replaced with The Field and Daniel Street...  Is it because of the draw or that the new booking people don\'t have the right connections?  I\'m not bitching, just wondering...  Just looking at both websites, it looks like TB is the biggest act on both their schedules...

Would you be a shark in a small pond or a guppie in the atlantic ocean?

i\'m not going to complain about few webster shows. i was kind of hoping that the warehouse would replace it as the most viable venue, but i don\'t know how realistic that is. there are still shows at toad\'s on a semi-regular basis. i think it\'s just a product of there being fewer breakfast shows overall. to be honest, i don\'t really like breakfast shows there either.

Yeah, it was just a thought as there were 2 Toad\'s shows this year and a handful of FF were at Webster... It just seems like these places are either being weened out of the rotation or wiped off the map altogether for smaller local clubs...

There is too much empty space when they played the Webster or Toads Place. I\'ll take Eat A D Street over either of those even The Field (to me its the 2009 equivalent of playing at Rudy\'s)

Tell that to Lester Stillwell who was killed by a shark in the Matawan Creek in 1916... Although it\'s not a pond, Matawan Creek is a fresh water canal that has a small connection to the Atlantic Ocean...

A couple questions regarding HDTV...

1. Where can I get a cheap 15\' HDMI cable
2. Where can I find a 15\' Wii component cable
3. Is there an adaptor that changes an RGB cable to HDMI

I have to set up my regular cable, dvd player (only component slot) and Wii and would prefer to limit the number of component cables...
