I think you are not allowing for any really good jams.  With the Biscuits crowd they could flesh out alot of their segues more and not need to have as many "drop" segues...it is odd how many similarities I have to yours as far as song selection though.  Here is the one I want them to play(think an hour to and hour and 15 minutes set):

Jam-> Coma*-> Overexposure-> Scheme-> See the Light**-> Buquebus-> Scheme

*Slower, "Pink Floyd" style **inverted

Ok, so I stole your inverted STL.  If this happens they should just play this and FUCKING BRING IT!!!  Lots of keys and powerful, patient builds into the next song and the crowd will be eating this up.
Title: Camp Bisco; Mariaville, NY
Post by: Overexjoesure on July 13, 2007, 10:08:56 am
Dear Walsh, each segue is a jam unto itself. For instance the Overexposure opens with the ending jam, obviously it would take a lot of creative manuvering to get it to flawlessly enter "24/7, 365".  The jam from the middle section to STL inverted would knock the socks off everyone in attendance. And then of course another little jam from STL to Wake Up in a Coma (kiss my ass Paul, I originally had down Eat That Phone Book Coda ;) ).

When I denote the >, I\'m not talking about the quick > like in Naragannset. I\'m talking about long building jams that slowly ooze into the next song. Don\'t for a second assume that the boys wouldn\'t be working their way through these jams like a slug coming out of a k-hole, believe me THEY ARE!!!

Edited the setlist to ad Chase coming out of WUIAC.  Tranceillvania for the BISCO KIDZ.....

Post by: WALSH on July 13, 2007, 10:15:53 am
If that is the case then you are giving them WAY too many songs...they would probably only get about and hour, MAYBE an hour and a half.  If the segues you have are all patient long builds then each song could only be about 5 mins each.  I still say go with mine;)

Yeah, I know it\'s way too many songs.. But a boy can dream, right?  As long as they don\'t make fools of themselvs and play Tricky Ways, or VT Song they should be good.

Camp Bisco would be soooooo huge for this band, could be exactly the boost they need if they melt some faces in Mariaville

I may be starting crap, well I know I am, but why does the band have to perform a bisco set?  They\'re not the DBs, they\'re The Breakfast and should perform the set that they want to and think will win fans over to THEIR style.  If they do a set specifically for those fans, then think of their surprise if they go to a regular show.  Not that I\'m planning to go or anything but to give an example - I remember seeing GWAR open up for The Misfits - imagine if GWAR cut their songs down to 2 minutes and excludes the stage antics to appease Misfits fans.  Do you think that would be a fun show to go to?  Or even better, when Psychedelic Breakfast played Camp Creek a few years back - imagine if they changed their style to sound like Max Creek? - that\'s like going to a restaurant and ordering a juicy kobe burger and getting a McDonald\'s patty.

But the thing is, the bfast do play trancey songs already as part of their own style. Why not play the songs that are trancey when you know the bisco crowd would eat it up?

p.s. this shit better be true because the calendar is looking HAG right now and it\'s the heart of summer.

Is this true?  They have to play a set of DB?

I like the idea.  Disco Breakfast.  Who says they have to play the songs like DB?  Like any cover, it\'s nice to see how another band interprets the music.

And frankly, I\'d love to see/ hear what GWAR would do to Misfit songs.  I\'d also like to see Glen Danzig get fed to that beast on stage... but that\'s just cause Danzig\'s "persona" annoys me.

I\'m not saying that they have to play DB songs.  My point is that why go out of their way to play trancy songs if that\'s what they want to do.  If it happens, fine - but I think that if they went out of their way to be trancy just to please the crowd, then they\'re taking away from their sound.

That\'s just my 2 cents.

Back to The Misfits thing, any way you slice it, Danzig is The Misfits.  Don\'t be too surprised if you see him back with the band at some point this year, being the 30th Anniversary plus Danzig and Doyle have played together.  There\'s already a tour lined up that includes, I think, Jerry Only, Doyle and Chud, so let\'s keep out fingers crossed.

The best I\'ve seen the trio is when they\'re tranced out.  Let\'s face it, at this point it\'s literally shit or get off the pot for these guys. For the sake of the band and us diehards I hope it\'s a massive exhibit of fecaphilia.

Jam->Coma->Overexposure->STL->Scheme->Queeb->Scheme

That is a breakfast set.  Not playing a set that would be to more of the crowd\'s liking would be silly.  It doesn\'t have to be tranced out, just have a lot of danceable grooves.  Most of those songs are rock songs...outside of the OE outro and the jams that Queeb will bring.  I don\'t get how that set of MONSTER Breakfast songs would be a bad idea.  You would rather Message in a Bottle and Surreal Radio???

I AM SO EXCITED!!!

I never said that a monster set would be a bad idea, I just think that they should play the show the way that THEY feel they should, not the way the DB fans would want to hear it.  I don\'t know about everyone else, but when I go to a show, I go to hear what the artist has decided they want to play.  If I get to hear a song I like, that\'s an added bonus, but shouldn\'t be the expected.  Too many bands go out there and play the hits (ie. Aerosmith, Billy Joel, Kiss and any other band that plays the same set year in and year out, maybe rotating a couple new songs).  I\'m not accusing The Breakfast of doing this - I think that they\'re probably the farthest thing from it - but if they force the trancy sound, then that\'s taking a step in that direction.  That being said, I should have disclaimed from my first post on this thread that I really can\'t stomach the DBs sound - if I wanted to hear trancy techno sounding music, I could go to any of the 10,000 guido clubs that surround me here in NJ.

"Last but certainly not least, straight from Connecticut, The Breakfast will be bringing their progressive, funk rock sound to their first Camp Bisco. The Jammy Award winning trio has spent the last year touring across the country in support of their last release, Moxie Epoxy. The band\'s ability to mix up a wealth of styles and feed of their influences, combined with the pure talent and raw energy put out at every show make The Breakfast a band not to be missed."

Last year @ Camp, Lotus got a Saturday afternoon time slot...it might have even been late morning (11am-12:30pm range).  Considering they are bigger in the Biscuits scene than the Breakfast, the set might not be at the greatest possible time...This was also on the the main stage though, so they could get a nice mid/late afternoon set on a secondary stage.

Hetty brah.. They did what they had to do at that stage in their careers. I never said it was a bad thing. That too was my first exposure to this band.  I was merely comparing the parking lot gig, to a local band side stage slot at GOTV.  You should read these posts more carefully.

at least 13,000 people will be at the GOTV this year... the only competition for the Breakfast from 3:45-4:45 is the Wailers on the main stage.  Even if only a small portion of the crowd ventures over to the solar stage, it\'ll be more people than a "parking lot" gig, and plenty of new  faces to melt.

I think it\'s fine, but for the time they\'ve been around they should\'ve had a real slot. But it\'s moot, so forget it.  Let\'s hope people make it to this stage. I\'m sure at least 7,000 attendees are under the impression Bob Marley\'s playing too....

Wow - this thread got really ugly.  The band did what they needed to do back then to get exposure and they\'re doing what they need to do now by playing the GOTV.  When they weren\'t playing earlier in the thread, people were bitching that they weren\'t on the bill.  They\'re on the bill now, so be happy.  Besides, paying dues doesn\'t guarantee you a main stage spot - bands like Iron Butterfly and Vanilla Fudge that paid their dues in the 60\'s are playing rinky dink shows and Brian Wilson (no one can take anything away from him) is only playing small local theatres; it\'s all about who will sell tickets.  The Breakfast may not be the largest draw there, but at least they have a time slot.

Backing out of Colo. dates for Camp Bisco is one of the biggest gaffs this band has made in recent times. Colo. IS A PROVEN FANBASE and if they were to focus on making quick trips out there they would be in soo much better shape than they have ever been and in such a quick time all of you would be amazed. Even if they do reschedule the shows they are blowing it by losing out on the perfect time to be out there. Right before school starts again and after people have done the Summer festivals. There is always a lull in shows during this time all over the country and this would have been perfect. Too bad.

Actually "Boomers", I\'m laughing because (A. I was attacked by him and you  (never once did I make a personal attack). (B, It cracks me up when people assume they know me, my history with the band, and a realistic view of where this band is heading.  Here\'s a nice little ditty for you and your buddy Dr. Dre.

Just a small town girl, livin in a lonely world
She took the midnight train goin anywhere
Just a city boy, born and raised in south detroit
He took the midnight train goin anywhere

A singer in a smokey room
A smell of wine and cheap perfume
For a smile they can share the night
It goes on and on and on and on

Strangers waiting, up and down the boulevard
Their shadows searching in the night
Streetlight people, living just to find emotion
Hiding, somewhere in the night

Working hard to get my fill,
Everybody wants a thrill
Payin anything to roll the dice,
Just one more time
Some will win, some will lose
Some were born to sing the blues
Oh, the movie never ends
It goes on and on and on and on

(chorus)

Dont stop believin
Hold on to the feelin
Streetlight people

i was gonna hit up this colorado run, but since they were added to camp, i think its by far a way better idea to play there than these shows.  there will be more impressionable fans to win over at camp and maybe they\'ll create more of a buzz about them.  i\'m not bummed i wont be seeing them out in colorado, to me this trip is more of a personal time for me to have a reunion with my best friends that i never see.  yeah it would have been a great time for them b/c CSU and i\'m sure Boulder start their semester after that weekend, but whats the difference if they come back later in the fall/year during school session, they\'re still gonna be hitting up college towns full of students who dig the band.

Aaah, a Doughboy opener - a good call, recalling the heady days of 2004!! Ron\'s bass on that would certainly set the scene for a facemelt.

I think the band have got to be quite cute on their setlist choices: too rocky and they will go over the heads of the bisco fans, but if they go out to outrance the biscuits (which an epic Queeb would run the risk of doing, especially with keys back in the mix), they will be accused of being copyists and even if they are as good, nay better than tdb, there will be an anti-vibe. I just think they should be themselves and play what they would consider their usual festival type set. Looking at the artist list, they are going to stick out in terms of style anyway, so let their musicianship do the talking.

And also, major props to whoever got them on the  bill - it\'s been a long time coming. Let\'s hope this exposure is the beginning of something big - maybe it will lead to a tour with one of the scene\'s big boys, or even get me out to Amsterdam next March!! ;)

From http://www.campbisco.net:

Due to situations out of our control, the Bays cannot enter the United States as a group and therefore cannot play Camp Bisco this year.  We would like to apologize to everyone who was looking forward to this performance.  We were just as excited as everyone else to have them as a part of Camp Bisco.

In light of this recent development, we are EXTREMELY excited to announce that a couple of the top players from Camp Bisco have stepped up and taken the Bays slot.   Marc Brownstein, Simon Posford, Aron Magner, and Zach Velmer are going to fill the slot, as \'The New Originals\'.  This one time only, all improvised, psychedelic set featuring some all-star musicians is guaranteed to be a highlight of Camp Bisco.  Marc, Aron, and Zach have shown their chemistry before in the short lived super group Suckapunch, and are joining together for the first time since then with world renown musician and producer Simon Posford.  We would like to thank each individual musician for stepping up and helping us fill this slot with such amazing talent.  This extremely rare grouping of musicians coming together at the last minute is what Camp Bisco is all about.

fuckin aye. that sucks. woulda like to have seen conspirator fill that slot. . . .

you\'d rather see a conspirator set over a one time only show w/ brownie, magner, velmer, and posford?

***Attention Ellis, Peck, Gencs, Other Breakfast vets***

This year they are going to have a Camp Radio Station (91.1 The Untz) and I need some good shows/segment that are decent quality to recommend to the Camp DJ.  I would like to get some stuff on there that will fire up some people to get up for the Early Breakfast set on Saturday.

Please post recommendations/links here.  Thanks in advance.

kinda wierd umphreys has longer slot than biscuits on thursday, silly in my opinion but i aint complaining, so pumped for breakfast and yes benny ditto on everything including sicky orchard lounge and future rock sets on fri late night, sphongle set break fri and again orchard lounge setbreak sat night.  Orchard got some money spots, check them out...ben silver is the man.  excited for sound tribe, only overlap issue is them and OTT, who i need to see..shit i have heard is good, but sound tribe is on main stage saturday so they will have my undivided attention then.  Damn i wasnt nearly this excited for side acts last year, just needed the biscuits but to have my two fav bands along with all these other acts, im excited for the times to be had.  Yes im also disappointed about the bays i wanted to see them live but i think they got it covered very well with the  New Originals.  o yeah

I\'m cutting it close though and am definately not prepared (thats how I do). But it looks like I have situated a ride. I will be able to get a ticket at the door though right?
