What an amazing show tonight.  The jam from Lovely Rita to Psygn may have been the finest playing I\'ve ever heard from the boys.  That is until Buquebus took the whole night to a new level.  Too much to recount at this hour.  Hope everyone had a great time tonight.  It was good to see everyone.

It was actually just his ankle but none the less he was very much hindered but he played his balls off all night.  I\'m sure he\'s feeling it today ......

Oh no, smashing guitars :(

I had a pretty good time but I was so exhausted I barely made it there and back and could barely keep on my feet while I was there. Mebbe that kept me from getting into it as much as usual.. but for me this show is still hugely overshadowed by several others I\'ve seen this year, esp. the last Stone Church show.

Def good to be there though.

It\'s hot as satan\'s armpit up here today.... time to grab me a soft serve. peace

......

Oh BTW I really enjoyed Ron\'s raging bass line in Tricky Ways. Way to Save the song ;)

Rust...  Came and went real fast.  Not sure what I think of it yet.  Then again I felt the same way about Overexposure right after I heard it.

so now that ive relaxed slightly from my multiple orgasmic experience from last night, i give you my thoughts from the show......

excellent

great playing by all four guys.... overall sound felt funny early on... but by about drunk monk bar it was perfect.... honeybutter was an excellent choice for an opener, before last night i was not completely sold on this song, but it has now been legitimized in my mind, as it rocked....
when rust came on i was at first like, "what the hell is this"... and then when timmy started singin i knew exactly what was goin on and i pretty much shat my pants while ordering a bass from the bartender, who looked a bit confused by my yell of excitement that would have been more suitable coming from the winner of a girls only hoola hoop competion, 10-12 yr. old division.... either way i felt i was legit seeing as how i had been told numerous times that rust was gonna be solely a timmy tour song (ever since the first time it was played in front of 6 people at cj sparrows).......... tricky ways was fun as always, although shortly i expect to see the obligatory tuna bashing..... drunk monk bar, along with puppetry (the only two old originals from first set) were my personal favorite times played....... i always love good things, and the segue from lovely rita to psygn was awesome, and psygn was stellar
ending this set with my favorite song ever was almost too much..... and then there was second set...........

future peek is a good song, but i do not feel terrible when i miss it ( as i did most of it last night while acquiring my hot new save side shirt)    buquebus was a monster.... the first jam was raging dance party throughout the house, and reminded me of the gravity from stone church right before west coast tour.... buquebus was everything the crowd needed at the time..... beef barley, o beef barley... the first original that i ever got into... as with probably many newbs..... truthfully i didnt expect to hear this song tonight, but i was pleasantly surprised, and i loved them going back into the end of it to close out the set............... latg>overexposure was also the best ive ever heard from them.... the latter was absolutely ripping...... fly like an eagle, another tune i expected only to hear on timmy tour, was such a great surprise.... it was hit for new and old fans alike

as for the encore, i would have loved for them to rage until the house pulls the plug on them and then finish with a major drum solo..... but surreal radio is a power song in my mind and totally finished the night with an exclamation point..............
so so so much fun, we rolled in with a crew mixed of old fans and new, a couple of first timers, and everyone enjoyed themselves, i think the setlist was well written, as it appealed to all fans, and this band definitely gained at least a few new ones last night

heres to the next 1000:D

spoke too soon boo boo, check my previous post :P Save\'s bass line during that song was actually one of the high points of the show for me.

I could have definitely gone for several more old school cuts in this show. Very good Buquebus though. Nice to hear Puppetry but the last one I heard at Stone Church was 10x better.

I don\'t remember Rust all that well but I remember thinking "this song doesn\'t have very many notes" or something...

WOW
it\'s difficult to talk about this show yet..but what the heck..
what an amazing night! i totally dug the whole show. normally i pick out a few highlights, but honestly the entire night was just an incredible experience for me. i was so anxious all day yesterday..not sure if it had to do with blowing up balloons (btw, if you smoke, don\'t try to blow up a serious amount of balloons-you\'ll feel faint) or the fact that i was nervous about what kind of turnout last night would have. the amount of people that showed up/performance couldn\'t have been better. it was so great seeing so many people, especially some that haven\'t been around lately. the whole night came together so well. the setbreak video montage came out excellent as well as the 1,000th show digest issue. thanks to those who held the late night festivities somewhere on prospect st.

1000 freakin shows.  Surely they must be the youngest band to ever reach this rare milestone.  I loved everything about last night; the family-reunion atmposphere, the party decorations, the four awesome frog banners behind the stage, the special video, posters, and Breakfast Digest, the balloons and confetti, all the people raging in the audience making the show one to remember, and the post-show reviews.  Notice how everything I just mentioned is directly attributable to the fans.  Of course Ron, Tim, Ad, and Jordan deserve credit for getting this far.  But the incredible Breakfast fans have just as much to do with this as them.  Without us there is no band.  So to everyone who helps out the band by bringing newbs to shows, lending your personal talents, saving the band from the edge of destruction when the van gets stolen, or most importantly showing up and having a good time, I just want to say thanks!  Here\'s to the next 1000 shows! :yay:

that was seriously one of the best shows i\'ve seen in a while. They were just fuckin hitting on all cylinders. Plus the crowd was insanely loud and into it so that made it sweet too. Highlights for me have to be honeybutter, lovely rita > psygn > puppetry, and all of set 2 really. It was that good. Future Peek is a goddam rediculous song. So much power in that one. Buquebus was nasty, as was the "Barley Sandwich." Plus one of the craziest encores ever. Tim saying his acoustic guitar was a guitar he "loved very dearly" made the whole thing even funnier. Surreal Radio is one the best closers they have IMO.

Thanks to the band for an amazing time and all the fans for rockin out hard!!

But on a higher note:
Absolutely incredible night last night!!!!!! Great to see so many faces that I haven\'t seen in AGES! Went crazy with the dual camera shooting!!! that setlist doesn\'t match the one i made.

mine has a LOT more exclamation points!!!!!!

i don\'t have time to go for a full blown review right now, but overall that was easily the best show i\'ve seen all year! SO MUCH energy, it was like they were trying to shake toad\'s loose from its foundations!! i\'m still down a little hearing in my right ear, but that\'s the gimpy one already, so... the whole car ride back we kept naming songs, then being blown away by them. "And that Drunk Monk.... DAMN!!" "Jesus, that Buquebus!@!@!@!" etc. i will say that the total highlight for me was the psygn>puppetry. the rita jam was actually the only time all night that i stopped moving. however, when viewed as part of the toal arc that ended after puppetry that breakdown is awesome. i just thought it got a little unfocused there for a bit. so, as a stand alone, i wasn\'t blown away, but as part of the whole it made for a Gigantic dynamic shift, so kudos!

it was great seeing everyone we did see and a bummer that we missed everyone else!

and it ended up being a good thing we didn\'t make it out to the after party, as jill\'s mom had to go to the hospital on sunday morning. by last night she\'d had heart surgery to remove fluid from around her enlarged heart. needless to say, we need all the extra energy we could muster yesterday.

anyway, thanks to everyone who made saturday such a phenomenal show!!!

not to much was said about it but a BIG THANKS and HUGE PROPS to those involved with the stage setup. i thought everything looked top notch from the 1000 in the back to the the little things on the front of the stage.... some recognition should be given to those involved with all that.

and some more recognition to Ellis-D for the lighting last night... GREAT SHOW man!!!!!!!

oh and to the band for doing what they do and being so modest about it.

TO MANY THOUSANDS MORE!!!!!!!!!!!! butta butta buttaaaaaa

and i F@CKEN LOVE Psygn

Notice how everything I just mentioned is directly attributable to the fans.

So much of what made sat such a great night was the turnout though.

My catchphrase for the night "This is what a Breakfast show should be" As Steve and I were opening the curtain at the begining of the 1st set, ans the crowd started absolutely loosing it.  It was fuckin great! I knew right then what the night was gonna be like.  The crowd never stopped and neither did the band, the energy was def being bounced back and forth all night.

Well after spending all of yesterday on the couch in a joyfilled yet exhausted coma, I have now risen with my thoughts a bit more collected and my mind and body a bit more rested......

It had been almost a full year since The Breakfast had played Toad\'s Place.  To be back there for the 1000th show was an honor.  And what a way to honor the legendary Connecticut venue as well as our favorite band\'s monumental achievement.

From the months of promoting, to the amazing posters, to the 1000 frog banner and stage decor, to the special issue of The Breakfast Digest, to the setbreak video retrospective, more people than ever pulled together to create an atmosphere of love and celebration for this band.  And they handed us a performance that expressed their gratitude as well as showed everyone why they are one of the best bands in the live music scene today.

So I would like to extend the warmest of thanks to everyone who, in their free time, put their love for the band and it\'s scene first to make Saturday June 17, 2006 a night that will stand as a testament to this bands longevity, originality, and unparalleled talent.

And to everyone else who put aside whatever plans they may have had to come out and celebrate and dance and show their love for The Breakfast, thank you so much. For without the fans, this band has no reason to forge through all the peaks and valleys that the past 7+ years has thrown at them.

Okay, a lot can be said, but let me emphasize some more points.
BUQUEBUS (jam even better than puppet house jam, which I still dedicate my life to, pretty sure best ever, god damn) the light show-absolutely on point  made the show that much better and added even more energy, and they only played four old school songs but the show was still so rocking, so rocking--show actually surprised me, which i think fits for their 1000.  This should just show us what there is to come.  Somehow I didn\'t here Tim say to stick around for the video during set break, so I left too quick for my friend heads, disappointed that i missed.  Thanks to all for coming and getting down, I know I did ---  oh yeah nice to hear timmy tour songs - rust and fly like an eagle ---
giggety giggety

Yowzaaass!!

That show was the shiznit. After many hours of prep work... it all finally came together. Much thanks goes out to Princess Caspian and ulee for helping me complete those frog banners, while I somehow managed to finish up my thesis at the same time. After 10+ hours of work, I think the final effect was exactly what we\'d hoped for. Also, thanks to fatboy, zuke, mamalaka and sallialli for helping set up everything else at Toad\'s. From the looks of it everyone had an amazing time.

Lovely Rita > Psygn was my highlight, as well as the balls to the wall outta this universe Quebs. Oh yeah, and I couldn\'t stop jumping around and smiling during the balloon war that developed during Puppetry.

Just getting the know these guys over the past few years has been amazing. I feel like I can see how much they\'ve progressed, and it just makes me smile. I can\'t even imagine having known the music for the whole seven years. They\'ve definitely come a long long way. (*esp the vocals... listening the them harmonize during sound check without any instruments interrupting put me up on a cloud. Those guys can sing!)

Here\'s to an amazing band!

as always, i\'m always stuck with words about describing each show but all i can say is : what a fan-fucking-tastic time!  loved everything about the stage and the lights the lights- NICE WORK.  balloons and confetti were fucking great too- sooo much good energy from everyone in the crowd and of course the headiest of heady energy coming from the stage, i apologize for darting the band with balloons and glitter bombing other people!  i guess i just got too caught up in the moment w/ the show, and i was surprised how fast both sets went, definately made me want more.  also bummed that i missed the video retrospective i hope it surfaces on here sometime.  i took a bootleggedy video at the end of the late and the great on my camera that looks pretty sweet, i\'ll try to upload it when i have a working computer.  lastly- always wonderful time seeing everyone, definately crossing my fingers about beardslee!!!

Sounds like a great night - congrats to the band and all involved. As has been said, 1000 shows for such a young band is some achievement.

Here\'s hoping my connection stays up tonight long enough to download the show - got a fault on the line and have lost all telephone calls, but do seem to get sporadic modem connection. This explains my lack of comment/questions till now. Just going to say: DMB and the quebe AND a bit of classic Steve Miller??? - pity I couldn\'t have made it - would have been a helluva first show!!

And what\'s the story on Adrian\'s ankle? Cause??

It has come to my attention that in a case of intoxicated mistaken identity I rudely harrassed an innocent patron near the bar on Sat.

I have no personal recollection of said incident (which is not to say I deny it) otherwise I would attempt to be more specific.

Title: Mr. Toad\'s Wild Ride!
Post by: ChrisPitch on June 21, 2006, 02:14:36 pm
Well, it\'s been a few days and now is the time to thank everyone involved with a another in a long line of splendiferous evenings.

The Breakfast is far-and-away one of my favorite bands of all-time and I\'m extremely fortunate to have grown up around them and their scene. If not for this bit of luck, who knows what music I\'d be listening to and with whom I\'d be sharing it? It\'s scary to think that since they\'ve improved so much since day one, that there is actually potential for more improvement. I don\'t know how you top some of the shows I\'ve seen, especially in the past year, but the new batch of songs are adding even more dimensions to a band that already has a ton of them.

It\'s also highly appropriate to thank everyone involved. Justin and Aruny put forth perhaps their finest work with the new poster. The stage set up looked quite cool and everyone who was there early deserves plenty of credit. I\'m sure the montage was well done even though I didn\'t see it. The newsletter timeline brought back a lot of memories. And no list of thanks would be complete without acknowledging Dave for .info, Ellis and Dobz for their technical prowess, and Gavin and Gencs for truly being jacks-of-all-trades.

As far as the show, Honey Butter started the rip-roaring mood that stayed throughout and was a perfect choice. Always glad to hear Lovely Rita, which I hadn\'t since that infamous night in Branford 10 months ago, and there was obviously some great jamming through Puppetry. Rita\'s spaciness led to a perfect segue to Psygn, which I thought had the best jam of that lot, and then to Puppetry, whose jam started very funky and non-Puppetry-ish before coming back home to the main theme, followed by the requisite recklessness. A damn fine first set.

I thought this particular Buquebus was great as always, but maybe a bit too quick to achieve epic status. Perhaps I\'m nit-picking, but after Providence set the bar for me two months ago, it\'s tough to not compare. Hands-down, my highlight of the show was The Late And The Great>Over Exposure. For one, TLATG is starting to catch my ear. For two, Over Exposure, in addition to being my new favorite, I felt had the tighest and most exciting jam of the night. I was completely transfixed. I was then completely stupefied by Fly Like An Eagle. My thinking is that there are numerous better songs out there that are way more challenging for a band and enticing to an audience than this psuedo-psychedelic loafer. And to place it at that particular point of this particular show, followed by the Barley finish, was just odd. I would have been fully satisifed had they ended with Over Exposure, but just like before, I\'m nit-picking, which is the only manner in which you can even consider criticizing such a dynamite show. It was another set of significant quality.

Tim smashing his guitar will live in infamy. Truly classic stuff. Surreal Radio was a great closer. We started with a rocking manner and ended that way. To finish with that says a lot about this show and the strength of the band\'s new tunes. Here they are playing a hyped and historic show in front of their hometown fans--most of which grew up with the old-school songs--and The Breakfast turns in a brilliant performance with just four originals that debuted before 2005. It speaks mass volumes about maturity, both in terms of compositional and jamming ability.

Overall, this was one of the better shows I\'ve ever seen the band play in my 119.

Ok, so the only other thing that needs to be discussed is late night, or in this case, early morning. What can I say? When you fall asleep at 9:45  a.m., you\'ve had yourself quite a time, little buckaroo. That\'s just the type of event it was at Toad\'s and beyond this past Saturday. Glad everyone was a part of it. I love all of you.

and i thought it had a nice funkiness to it. now, i wouldn\'t start requesting it at every show (or any other, really) but for this show, it made sense to me.

I agree with you on the Adrian with out a hat deal.  Most of the time I have photgraphed them/him, he always has tghat hat on and of course sits behind a ton o drums and cymbals and it is HARD to get a clean shot of his face.
I think they wanted to be able to see his face on the video.:)

...anyone whose been seein them since \'99 or earlier would know that this show was a let down, they didn\'t really play any good songs. when i would keep comng back to see a band that would work the crowd into a collective frenzied scream, i would like to see much less of the fruity slow rock ballads that the new fans have grown to love for some reason, and more of the crazy-ass, balls-out shit that got me hooked on the band to being with, oh well...

the show held up to the expectations for the most part.  not the greatest show ever, but solid nonetheless.  i knew going into this show that i\'d hear a bunch of new songs, drunk monk bar, and buquebus, and i was happy that they all got played.  even beef barley made me happy since it has been quite a while since i last heard it.

I\'m breakin balls but I am curious to wether or not the fans were satisfied or if they felt it didnt meet expectations.

It doesnt look or sound like it lived up to all the hype that proceedeed it. Or did it? As wah pointed out I wasnt there but it doesnt look like i missed all that much.

So how would you guys rate this show on a scale of 1-1000. 1 being the worst show ever played and 1000 being the best.

on your scale I\'d say it was 700~800

Talk about idiotic logic.  If everyone said "yeah, the show was a letdown" you would say "Hey, I was right, the show must have sucked!"  When everyone says "No, you idiot, the show was awesome" you say "Hey, I was right, the show must have sucked!"

I for one had a balst at the show. I did think it was very different than most PB / tB shows I had seen to that point.

The flow of the show was different (for me) and the song selection was certainly fresh (in the sense that new tunes were played and some covers etc). I really enjoyed the show from start to finish.

It had something for everyone and I for one appreciate that. They highlighted their many talents and some new tunes. As opposed to just coming out and shredding 1st to last note. The show surged and receded etc etc. It wasn\'t just an assualt there was a reach around included :)

Now everyone was partying myslef included. I could see someone wanting to hear different tunes but the show was a fantastic concert. I would say it was around what Me! said 700-800 on your scale. But I think it being bumped up or down depends on what your personal expectations were.

I would say the largest crowd I have seen at a Bfast show ever (not including festies)

all i know is, i played it for a bunch of friends this weekend, and they all wanted copies to go home with - including the ones that didn\'t much care for the shows i\'d pushed on them earlier. i thought it was awesome, the best show by anyone i\'ve seen this year and right up there in the top three of bfast shows i\'ve seen. the patience getting into the jams, the maturity of the songwriting and the levels and layers of dynamics in their overall playing showed me that this is a band becoming commsumate musicians, not just talented kids playing for shits and giggles. not that i don\'t like shits and giggles, but they\'re growsing up and that\'s only good for them and us!!

Wolfman are you fuckin SER?

tool?

I\'d like to see you call me that to my face old man.

Your extremely out of line here.

The show was super hyped up and didnt look that good on paper or sound that good on tape.

I read some of the thread and people seemed to like it but thats not what I was asking.

Hence I asked if it lived up to the hype.

It was a simple question.

There no need to jump down my throat like a immature psycho and start foolish drama.

Notice how chris, jking, kindm, wstielau  and igz responded to my question???

....like normal, adult, civil human beings.

Maybe you should try that sometime and save yourself from looking like a total bafoon.

So stop starting shit over nothing, grow up, and  dont call me a tool unless you want to find my fist in your grill the next time I see you.

Klout, I\'m just bust\'n your balls and have been waiting for the chance to use that pic.

I personally would not have minded a couple more old tunes but i really like a lot of there new material so i had no problems with that. but i feel if i haven\'t been seeing the guys play all the time i could have felt a little lost with all the new material being thrown at me and in that sense it could have been a bit weird but not living up to expectations....... that might be a bit of a stretch. just all the more reason to check these guys out more often because they\'re are growing above and beyond their past sound. hey did you used to go to Phish shows expecting to hear certain songs. i personally have seen them....... 20+ times and have never gotten to witness certain songs i wish i had seen live but little things like that kept me going to the next show or traveling that extra couple hundred miles. so for me i thought it was great, for a noob never really hearing these guys before i thought it was a rock\'n show, as an oldschool head that hasn\'t been to see them or dl a bunch of there new shows.... maybe I\'d feel a little jipped but what do you expect... these guys to make it on there former 20-30 song rotation. keep it new and fresh but maintain what the people want, phat bass bombs, silly synth, hard hitting rhythms, an earhole assault and visually mind melting, which i thought the show had so it all depends on who you ask, and since your asking the kids who are at 80-90 percent of there shows what they thought........

so if I am understanding Klout correctly, you say that the 1000th show didn\'t live up to the hype made before the show?

The hype brought in, depending who you speak to, 580 to over 600 people, you can\'t get a real number and based on my inquires this is the best number I can come up with. Yes, we did create hype,  most bands do for special occassions and for the most part that was me who was responsibile. I undertook a serious amount of responsibility to promote this show and get people in the door. Shit, I even said in the lead-up thread for the show, that we should advertise "Free Sex" to get people in there, anything. So, the show was a little over-hyped because, like you and everyone else out there, we didn\'t want the show to be a lousy attended gig. They deserved better.

I was disappointed when I first walked into the venue because the crowd was thin and all I could think of was the $100 plus that I invested with my own money. If it wasn\'t for me and the rest of .info, the promotion would have been tickets handed out and probably in the car or trunk of most peoples vehicles. So the hype created was created by .info for .info. And I thank ALL OF THOSE, who helped promote this show and those who did the lovely set design, circa Phish NYE 1993.

The place filled up and the energy the crowd brought was worth a solid 100-150 more people. Everyone was extremely receptive, people knew the songs and people were estatic from the get go. There were more people tuned into the show then I have seen at a breakfast gig alone.

Was it the best breakfast show? Not by any means. Up until Lovely Rita, I didn\'t know what they would do, if anything to bring it up a notch, but then came Psygn and the rest is history.

So we overhyped a show. It was the first real show the band had promoted in how long? People came out and people will come out next time the Breakfast are at Toad\'s. Toad\'s doesn\'t like the Breakfast either for one reason or another, hence the year between gigs. So maybe the over hype worked for us, maybe it didn\'t.

Was this show all that I expected? Not at all but I will tell you this. When Buquebus got into the jam, I said fuck Bonnaroo, they can have it.

I have not seen alot of shows this last year (maybe 10, which is what I used to do every few weeks back in the day), so for me the hype def helped. I got myself really worked up for this show and they did not let down. Being that I was taping you have to seperate yourself from what your experiencing in order to properly document it. If I let the music take over, the camera would have been pointed at the floor the whole time and I would have been dancing. It took alot of self control to ignore how damn good the jamming was and concentrate on my work. Also, based on how much people were banging into me while dancing shows how much others around me were enjoying it as well.
I though the setlists were organized very very well and the fact that they were able to play 80% new songs and have a show that good proved how mature their songwritting and jamming has become. Sure their was no Garcian, ATSD. GSOT or many of the numerous other classics I would have liked to hear, but given this was the first time I heard many of these songs live, I was blown away. On your chart I would place this show in the 900% range.

Another factors that proved it was a good show to me:
people begging Jordan for his setlist after the show and others grabbing for the broken pieces of the acoustic. The classic moves of those who were blown away.

So how would you guys rate this show on a scale of 1-1000. 1 being the worst show ever played and 1000 being the best.

Allright, lemme try to think of all the shows I\'ve been to since it turned \'06....

3 in Syracuse
1 in northampton
1 in southbridge
2 in CT somewhere
2 at Stoned Church
1 @ Middle East
I have a feeling there are a couple more here too I\'m forgetting... but anyway

out of all these, this 1000th show was my least favorite. My opinion is basically that the "big party show celebration" show where they bust out lots of their new tunes is inferior to the Rufus>Puppetry>TribalFunk>Escher\'s type show with a few of the new ones thrown in for good measure.

The balloons and decorations were pretty cool but honestly I always tend to enjoy the smaller shows where PB/Breakfast tends to get into the deep and dark jams that really get inside my head.

I also thought, musically, that the 1000th show was somewhat weak relative to the rest of the shows I\'ve seen this year. For example, the Puppetry at the last Stone Church show was the sickest thing I\'ve seen in quite some time. The Puppetry in New Haven didn\'t do much for me and that\'s one of my favorite tunes! They didn\'t jam out as much as I like to see and I am used to seeing.

I also thought the Psygn and Buquebus were the weakest ones I\'ve seen this year. I guess my expectations were extremely high going into this show, because I feel like up until this point the band has raised the bar every single time I\'ve seen them. But hey, I understand this show was serving some kind of "other" purpose. But it really didn\'t seem like a "normal" Breakfast show to me.... something was strange about it, and frankly, I prefer the Breakfast I\'ve grown to love and plan my weekends around.

So... relative to some of the other incredibly sick shows I\'ve seen this year....

"200"

flame on motherlovers

....

oh yeah, if you read between the lines of this post you can see I obviously am not a real fan of Breakfast :P

hahaha.... but seriously, I do pretty much agree with you Klout. And I was actually there ;)

:shock1: REALLY!!! I\'m not gonna say it was even nearly the sickest show of the year but the audience vibe alone made this a show I will never forget, the Queeb was ridiculous (no PH or Providence but none the less) I def understand what you mean by small shows with jams that get into your head, but this night to me was more about the band and the audience working together than the band just blowing everything away.....

Yeah my favorite Buquebus of this year occured on 04-07-06 @ Mezzanotte... . not a huge crowd got to witness that one though. Premier Music Hall was sick too. I didn\'t make it to Providence (arrested on the way down there, doh!) but I got that burned on CD and its sick too.

Klout I believe you were there although I don\'t believe I said hello ;) @ Mezzanotte that is

.....

Me! I actually find that smaller shows allow for more audience / band interaction. Like the last show I saw at Southbridge was a classic example of that. Everyone who wanted to be right up front where the band was could be, and Tim was doing Jedi guitar shit pointing at different people in the audience.... and they broke into some funky original jams ... "Bounce with me! uh-huh, uh-huh, Bounce with me!"

Dunno, I hope that Breakfast does become more popular, because obviously I wish what\'s best for the band. But I also hope if this happens I\'ll still be as interested in the band as I am now.

Oh well, I knew their rediculous consecutive streak of "favorite shows ever!!!!" couldn\'t go on forever ;)

4/20 in Burlington is probably still my favorite show of the year so far.   I can think of another couple I\'d rank higher than Toad\'s(the Middle East, Northhampton), but I was pleased w/ Toad\'s nonetheless.  It was like the Coda show w/ a Buquebus.
Title: where to begin
Post by: wildcoyote on June 26, 2006, 09:27:59 pm
1. As someone who helped promote-Thanks to all that came out.

2.To Spacey\'s feeling that Toad\'s doesn\'t like the Breakfast, it\'s b/c at least in their opinion, attendance had @ best plateued (sp?) or @ worst dwindled in recent shows.  The consensus feeling was if they were going to "make it" it would have happened by now. The effort of over hype was beyond necessary.  A sparse crowd would have spelled the end of the Breakfast at this venue.  How can a young band grow if their biggest local venue sees them as old news?  As fan of the Breakfast and local live music I thought this was important enough to get off my ass and do something (which lead to my discovery of .info)  This show annouced the much belated arrival of tB as a legit Saturday night headliner at a club that has boasted (ad nauseum) some of the biggest names in music.

3. I personally brought about 18 people (in addition to many many passes handed out) who had never seen the band before.  The response was overwhelmingly positive.  Some old fans could care less about noobs, but that\'s what the band needs so they don\'t have to go out and get joobs. (heh)

4. Even the Dead stopped playing Dark Star to move on to Help On the Way>Slipknot>Franklins Tower type sets.  The new songs are GREAT. They need to be played.

5. Thanks to everyone on .info who made me feel welcome as I made the jump from long term casual fan, to a guy who won\'t shut up about this band.

Oh yeah did I forget to mention (to mention Memphis) that this show was HUGE FUCKIN SUCCESS!

Wow wildcoyote.  As a long time fan and someone who has just started posting here more than once per year I really have similar thoughts as far as where the band is at right now and the Toad\'s show\'s relevance.

1] I know something about music production/promotion and am aware that this band needs as much crowd/venue awareness as they can muster/gather/buy right now, this year.  after 8 years they need to start seeing a steady booking calendar and sell their studio recordings.  This also entails making sure every one in the organization can travel and earn enough money to not get hassled "at home".

2] I think the evolution of their songwriting is INCREDIBLE.  I have been hooked on Tim\'s guitar playing and the bands approach to music since self titled, but I still think the new materail and REAL RADIO in a sense began a 2nd phase of song structure/creation to their studio output.

3] Thank you to Spacey and all who put their time/money/effort in to getting "PAYING butts through the door" because that is what is important both for the element of making the show memorable but also for the economic return to the band/venue.  I had great FUN!:bounce2:

4] I think venues that host all ages shows sometimes get negative toward an act if they don\'t sell enough overall tickets and then don\'t sell enough booze.

I think ya\'ll are crazy. . .

Over hyped? Yea. Sure. Maybe. But its a milestone show, it needs to be over hyped. Who cares what the setlist looks like on paper. There are alot of people on .info who would love to see the old school Psychedelic Breakfast type of show. But sorry folks, this is now The Breakfast, and I hope to hell they\'re here to stay in this type of fashion. The new songs kick ass, \'nuff said. Would I take a show with 100% "new" songs? Absofuckinglutely. Would I take a show with 100% "old" material? Absofuckinglutely. My point is the band decided to bust out mostly new material on a milestone evening, and in my opinion it was an absolutely genious decision. 95% of the people in the place were very much into it and the energy amazing, what more can you ask for in a milestone show?  Was it the best show I\'ve seen by these guys? Absolutely not, but it was definitely one of the most successful and fun shows that I have had the pleasure of attending, and to me the show being such a success means more than any setlist(s) anyone on here or anywhere would have thought "lived up to the hype".

playing mostly new songs at the 1000th show deffinitly makes a statement I think....

Making a milestone in thier careers about the future not the past...thats pretty encouraging.

I took a videoclip during "the Late and the Great" and just uploaded it.  you\'ll see some familiar faces in the crowd, the sound and visual is a little bootleggedity but enjoy it anyway.

Yeah, it\'s "bootleggedity", but it\'s still pretty cool. Thanks for the link. Great timing catching shredding>chorus>shredding on one of my favorite songs.

yeah thinks are pretty much like Nazi controlled territories during the WW over here.

There are also screen shots of our desktops when calls come in. I guess they want to make sure we are working.

some stupid shit but it probably needs to be that way for the best of the company.

I\'ll have to watch it when I get home.
