i\'m definitely gonna work to make it so. The troops are being rallied. And selling this show to ppl who don\'t know anything about the bfast will be so much easier b/c this place is soooo sweet looking! (and it has developed a good reputation in NYC, from what I\'ve heard. I\'ve never been there myself.)

unfortunately i\'ve promoted shows in nyc pretty hard over the years and the turn out really never blows me away. of course i\'d LOVE to see the place sell out, but i\'m not going to hold my breath.....

my game plan is to annoy all my friends from now until may 13th about coming to the show so that they eventually cave in. i hope it works, but i\'ll be raging nonetheless -- well, just as long as i get the following sunday off from work, which i\'m working on...
Title: Sat. 05/13 - Coda; New York, NY
Post by: Spacey on April 11, 2006, 08:00:27 pm
Coda looks like the type of venue that will do some promotion anyways. I will talk to Tim and see if we can\'t get a jump on this show. Perhaps we can get some time on a jam friendly radio station or something. This gig is a definite must to promote. The New York shows lately have been alright on attendance. I would hate to see a gig in May go grossly unattended.

Any suggestions on how to get the word out? Howwa bout postering subways or boards, something?

Hmm... how about a little drum and guitar session or solo timmy in the city the weekend before? (OK, OK. It\'s true that this is a shameless attempt for me to get a little extra breakfast love in nyc. but it might actually help them attract some ppl to the coda gig.) the knitting factory tap bar or old office are always comfy, but it looks like they\'re filling up....

What else... What else... Oh Yeah! Duh! Some of the Green Apple Musical Festival shows REALLY REALLY REALLY should be flyered! check out the schedule at http://www.greenapplemusicfestival.com/web/index.php?option=com_gigcal&Itemid=64

TLG had their last record release parties here. From reports of those 2 shows, this place is pretty sweet.

It fits abt 300-400 so if The Breakfast can pull in even 1/2 that it would be real good for them.

It will also help that this place is a bar people hit anyway no matter who is playing that night.

Promote the heck out of this show!!!!!!!! NYC needs more Breakfast.

Coda has a reputation for having good bands so that will help bring in some walk-up customers.
A lot of people find stuff to do and see in the city by looking through the free papers. Because of this Coda maintains an ad in the weekly free papers that lists their upcoming shows. The band might benefit from an ad in there that lists some high-profile sounding dates leading up to the Coda show as well as the Coda show itself. Maybe even tag a mini-tour name on it to make it sound like an event as opposed to just another show. I don\'t expect ad space to be cheap but it might be worth consideration. The papers also have weekly event listings which the band should try to get listed on. I am not sure if they charge for this.
Here are the papers I am thinking of
The Voice
New York Press
The Onion

Posters tend to get lost amidst all of the other mega-budget ads vying for space on subway walls and construction sites. Madonna at MSG, Ghostface Killah\'s Fishscale, Morrissey coming to town etc. are all battling for my attention on my commute. The Breakfast can\'t compete with that scale of marketing and should not try. I find that personal interaction and free stuff works best in this city. Engage people directly, transfer your enthusiasm and then give them something tangible for free. Standing outside a venue and handing out flyers tends to result in a lot of trash on the ground. Attending a show by a different band and handing out flyers/sampler disks to people you meet and chat with tends to result in more people at the Breakfast.

Sorry for the ramble. Spacey can I get some flyers?

I heard of Turbine only after they opened for the Breakfast.

Are they the two acoustic guitarists? I believe they opened for the band in Jersey last year. It was tough, they played 1 minute less then the b\'fast.
Title: Sat. 05/13 - Coda; New York, NY
Post by: jking on April 25, 2006, 10:48:24 am
yeah, two acoustic guys. not bad, but you\'re right; they usually play too long. although, they did have a *killer* clusterpluck on one of their tunes with all the tB guys sitting in at the funk box last year. i liked them a lot better in full band format.

We went to this really cool bar a block and a half southeast of msg when we were there for Phish New Years. Wish I could remember the name.

Got it:  Blarney Rock Pub, 137 W. 33rd St. Looks like less than two blocks away.

Good suggestion.
I am going to work my show and then head over to Coda afterward (10 pm or so). I assume everyone will be there by then.

Spacey, please send a flyer file to obsession600 AT gmail

There is an INCREDIBLE Irish pub directly across the street from MSG, not the same name as Todd\'s, but I went this year and it was so good, real irish music and the freshest guiness I have ever tasted.  Maybe they changed names.

i have been going to the previously mentioned  "blarney rock" (on east 33rd st.)for years. it is a great pre game bar with good food and easy access to the garden. don\'t confuse it with the "blarney stone" (which isn\'t bad either) located on 34th st. i\'ve spent many gd pre games there as well as a number of sporting events. if i make coda (50/50) i will have a corned beef sandwich there for absolute certain!

Does this place have the band to your left as soon as you walk in the door? If it does, I\'ve been to this place too. Great food from what I remember. The two guys playing the music had kilts and all!!!

I had planned to make a decision by the middle of next week on attendance, but due to unforseen circumstances, I am unable to participate in the shenanagins. My bank accounts (checking and savings) were drained to the penny Wednesday afternoon by some lawyer/collection agency for some medical bill from 2001, which was supposively paid 6 months ago by my former insurance company. They didn\'t get the full amount on Wednesday because I didn\'t have that much in there, but they went back in yesterday morning and took my entire paycheck (wasn\'t much, I missed a couple days last week) that was direct deposited before I had a chance to either freeze it or withdraw it. Alas, I have a combined $0.00 in my bank accounts, and need to use my check from next week to pay my rent, so I have zero dollars to use as what I like to call "have fun" money :(

definitely a good place to ask depending who responds.

I personally would ask myself which one has the best rewards. If you have never seen any of the two mentioned bands then go see them. Why not check out PJ for a first time or goodbye pants. I actually saw Adios Pantalones one year at the Hartford Grand Band Stand after PB played the Pigs Eye Pub. However, if you are not present in NYC on the 13th you will forever be shunned and referred to as Boo-Boo for that reason. The choice is yours, we all know you will make the right decision. Enjoy.

ardsley acres motel.  it\'s just off the saw mill pkwy (coming from the city, the west side highway becomes the saw mill).  not sure which exit offhand, but google/mapquest can handle that.

correction:  it\'s just off I-87.  take 95 > 87 and take exit 7.

560 Saw Mill River Rd

to every one that is going tonight-  i am very very jealous and i wish you the best of times

have fun dudes, cya on wednesday (no bar on monday right?)
