welcome to the band matt. rotfl

I am just a new boy,
Stranger in this town.
Where are all the good times?
Who\'s gonna show this stranger around?
Oooh, I need a dirty woman.
Oooh, I need a dirty girl.

Will some cold woman in this desert land
Make me feel like a real man?
Take this rock and roll refugee
Oooh, baby set me free.
Oooh, I need a dirty woman.
Oooh, I need a dirty girl.

wow. wow. wow.

what an amazing show last night! matt, sir, WELCOME !!!!!!! he brought exactly what I was hoping for... energy & rhythm & some fresh flavor to the band. His keys layered right into the trio\'s sound and added a layer that I have really missed this last year.

although i arrived quite late and missed most of the first set, the second set was HOT!!!! that was, i am confident, the best rendition of psygn i have ever heard. broke down into this dark, dirty, drum & bass-sorta jam, the place was absolutely pumpin\'.... puppetry was also HUGE, and TL&TG > OE was killer.... not to mention a SPUNK that actually kept me moving. Adrian was on FIRE last night!!!!

i haven\'t busted moves like that at a breakfast show in a while... it felt good, damn good. i am so excited to see more shows.... it felt like the energy of 2005 last night.... honestly it was the first time in a while i was thinking "i can\'t f-n wait to hear this recording". . .

hell yeah!

I couldn\'t agree with you more.  I\'m not a huge drum & bass fan, but stick it in the middle of a massive psygn and it puts an ear to ear grin on my face.

don\'t drink and post folks

what a show!! way better than the camp set...really outstanding jamming.  they were incredibly tight too (young lust was perfect).  psygn>puppetry is one of the best sequences i\'ve seen by anybody ever, and matt was a big part of it.  as i always say, overexposure is better every time i see it, so, logically, this was the best i\'ve ever seen.  i was telling elisa last night "minus the spac piper, the playing in the second set is as good as any phish i\'ve seen live"

oh also there was a "let forever be" (chemical brothers) tease...i think it was in psygn

great time last night.. Rockstar jumps during Jump were great and the Scheme was nearly perfect. The second set took off to another world and i saved so much money from not going to the bar because i was so fixed on the band. Psygn was out of control and I cant tell u how happy i am to hear the keys in Puppetry, especially right after that first verse. See the Light too... Matt, thanks for the effort and great meeting/hearing you last night.
Way to pop the cherry right there!

An absolutely marvelous performance.

I entered this show demanding to be impressed and was not disappointed. Matt\'s solo in Barley got me going with his playing and the good groove there carried over into a stellar version of WTF. And after a nice few bouncy openers, Scheme was an absolute bomb, a song I haven\'t heard in over a year. In addition to the usual insanity Scheme offers, the quiet section where they broke it down before the finish had me utterly captivated. As far as Jump, well, let\'s just say I liked the latter cover of the night a wee bit better, but still, it was a good opportunity for Matt to sing and lay down the synth.

I can\'t compare Psygn or Overexposure to other past versions at this time so I\'ll just say that they were each one of the best versions of two songs that are absolute sonic heavyweights, two songs that played their way to the top of my Breakfast catalogue in short order and deliver every time. I also gotta say though that Spunk may have been my second-set highlight. Tremendous bass and drum solos and some great trading off between Matt and Tim. It was special to see to looks on both of their faces as the band was wowing the devoted contingent.

Between sets I introduced myself to Matt and said, "Matt. My name is Chris. I\'m a fan of the band. And it sounded great." Simple and understated, the complete opposite of the show that inspired the comment.

Welcome to our world, Matt.

It was a really good show.

It was nice to see the bfast family out in full force. Old faces, new faces everybody just seemed to be in a happy place.

With all the heavyweights in attendance if this show had been on a Friday or Sat look out.

Matts addition to the band seems to be energy. Energy from everywhere, from the fans, the recent press, the energy and smiles he broadcasts from behind the keys.

I very much enjoyed the show. There were some rough spots at the beginning. Jump was a little sloppy but fun in a weird sort of way.

Last night was a fiery armageddon of serness.

Matt, as a (poor but appreciative) piano player myself, made me guffaw in joy when he busted out his ragtime stride piano skills.  I wish his mic had been turned up enough in Barley so we could have heard all the notes in the chorus\' chord.  Poor Ron looked confused...good thing he\'s got that excellent ear.

Also, I\'m sure he doesn\'t remember this, but last year after a Brahlington show I told Timmy "Now that you\'re on keys and guitar, you guys should play Jump!"   At the time, Tim scoffed me away, but I feel like I got my request, after all. ;-)  (mwa-hahaha!)

That show last night was clearly a new beginning of a wonderful turn in the Breakfast\'s journey.  I\'m SO glad I went and got to be a part of the madness.  Good to see everyone/meet some new faces!

While I really liked Matt\'s keys at GOTV & hearing the Bisco set, I think he\'s grown so much in this short time - He took some long standing Bfast songs & added his own spin onto them.  I didn\'t think it was possible to "improve" songs that were already perfect!  The future is bright indeed :awwyeah:

Obviously, your entitled to your opinion and all, but thats f\'n crazy!
soo, uh, best dig ever last night. Matt jammed the schnot outta it and really made that song into something special instead of the "smoke break/piss break song" that it has sometimes been. I was really impressed by Matt all night and I agree that he has a great stage presence and really brings a lot of energy. I loved both of the new covers, especially young lust. Every song was on point, psygn, spunk, pupp, & SCHEME being the heavy hitting highlights for me. Overexposure didn\'t really do it for me as much as it usually does but it was ser none the less. I can\'t fucking wait for the pre-moe.down throw-down, and also the freakout run. I love getting owned!

Anyone who knows a god damn thing about this band and has been there as long as some of us have, know god damn well that this show was something special.  From beginning to end I\'ve never seen so many people in a crowd with such huge goofy-assed smiles on their faces, more than one person told me that their face actually hurt from smiling as a matter of fact.  STL was emotionally moving especially after the piano solo, and completely over the fuckin\' top.  Beef Barley was out of control.  I really don\'t know how to describe WTF and Grand Scheme was fuckin\' phenomenal, without a doubt the best by far, everyone knows that.  I can honestly say that I have NEVER seen GS as a song to go smoke or take a piss during, you have to be kidding me.  It was a fuckin\' bomb and acts only as a small preview of what the future holds for these guys.  Absolutely amazing.  Jump, though an overall retarded song was only pulled off because of how well they played everything preceding it.  What a buncha silly fruits.
I was totally convinced that Superfly was coming out of the jam but whatever, the Dig was great.  The way it went into Psygn was really smooth, definitely and all time version by the way.  I don\'t think I could possibly remember a better Puppetry, the jam was just fuckin\' insane and went to soooo many different places by the time it finally came back around to the end I didn\'t know what was coming next, well I actually did cuz I have to be such nosey fuck, still I was kinda surprised regardless.  Spunk is always gonna be one of my favorites, that song always tears it up.  ALWAYS.   I really can\'t find a way to put TLATG>Overexposure into words.  Just completely amazing from beginning to end, I don\'t think I like anything more that they play than when Late and the Great speeds up and turns into Overexposure, it just blows me completely away.   Every time.
Overall I think that as Dave said, it really is the beginning of a new era, I mean obviously it is now that they have a new member, but I just have a feeling that everything that came before this was just practice.   Don\'t get me wrong, I take NOTHING away from the truly tremendous, shamefully not witnessed by enough people, things that this band has done.  But I can\'t help but think that we\'re all gonna see exactly what these guys are capable of doing and I think that there\'s no reason that the sky won\'t be the limit.  The show absolutely scorched, I haven\'t had that good of a time seeing them in I don\'t even know how long.  I cannot wait for the next time I see them.  Legendary shit lies ahead, you all know that it\'s true.

breakfast2007-08-23.483.flac16_vbr.m3u VBR M3U Stream

these are playlist files for streaming purposes. they don\'t involve actual downloading of the show to your computer. the latter would be the better quality of the two.

these are zipped mp3 files of the entire show, to download to your computer. while the latter in this group would also be the better quality of the two, it is still not up to par with downloading the actual FLAC files (which are obviously much bigger, but as i said, better quality).

II: jam > Dig > Psygn^ > jam > Puppetry, jam^^ > Spunk > Drum Solo, The Late And The Great > Over Exposure

E: Young Lust#

* with extended drum intro.
** Van Halen cover; first time played.
^ with \'Let Forever Be\' (Chemical Brothers) tease.
^^ with \'NBC\' jingle.
 # Pink Floyd cover; first time played.

My fucking brain is ooze right now. I wish I could remember more of the 1st set but we showed up late and I was still a little pissed off from getting stuck at work a 1/2 late. Heard the STL while walking in, wish I remember Beef Barley. I hope that with the addition of the keys, the jam in Beef Barley goes back to the summer of 2005. TGSOT is always a great song to hear, this one was really good, if I am remembering it right. I hate Van Halen and had not any feelings on Jump, which was slated to be part of the encore along with 1984 wish would then go into Jump. It was great to hear Striker sing though.

IMO, this show is all 2nd set. The breakdown that happened in Dig with Matt on Keys reminded me of the Page saloon style section in Harpua. It was very nice. Psygn as always is great to hear. The show highlight for me was Puppetry. I always enjoyed Puppetry and the darkness that ensues. I liked this Puppetry as it displayed all that I needed to confirm my belief in this line up. Spunk into a nice drum solo was ill. Went for a 20 minute smoke an American Spirit break at the beginning of The Late and The Great > Over Exposure because someone ripped ass in the back and made me evacuate.

Young Lust was a nice tune to hear Ronny sing. Nothing special but a really good show and the promise of good things to come.

I must comment that the fans and audience were definitely digging it. The band sounded great and everything was right on. Lots of people that I have not seen at a show before. Can\'t wait for Daniel Street.

Post by: ChrisPitch on August 27, 2007, 01:18:43 pm
1. Every segment of Scheme sounded perfect.

2. Psygn was outstanding, however I could have gone for a few more minutes of the tight, yet frenzied section towards the end. Probably not the best I\'ve ever heard, but way up there.

3. Puppetry established a tremendous groove, but that really isn\'t my type of Puppetry. Still good though, of course.

4. Adrian\'s solo was pretty damn great, and it didn\'t even have to go all-out crazy to achieve such.

5. This probably was the best Over Exposure I\'ve ever heard.

nice follow-up review chris.  well thought out.  agreed mostly, except that it was my type of puppetry however, now moving on to TLATG>Overexposure, absolutely perfect and the best one so far as far as i\'m concerned.

now i\'m gonna put myself out there on this one, i\'ll try my best to not sound like a lame ass here, so here goes...i rarely ever get so wrapped up in a song that i take the lyrics literally, but i kinda did on this one.  my grandfather died like 3 weeks ago and i never cried, everyone else did but me, i got a few of those shudders you get when you almost lose it, but that was it.  even carrying the casket with my brother who was crying, toward the grave with eight navy guys on either side saluting, and seeing all the people watching and sobbing, i get nothing.  even after taps was palyed and the 21 gun salute...nothing, just the stupid "shudders."  whatever.  towards the end of TLATG, i got one or two of \'em.  i felt like an idiot but no one saw me, so it was ok.  if they had they probably would have thought, "wow.........that guy just almost cried..........at a breakfast show..........coooool."

so needless to say this one is always gonna have a special spot in my memories, call it what you want, but that\'s just the way it is....can\'t wait for some acoustic shit, should be wildly fun.

what an amazing show last night! matt, sir, WELCOME !!!!!!! he brought exactly what I was hoping for... energy & rhythm & some fresh flavor to the band.

Adrian was on FIRE last night!!!!

i haven\'t busted moves like that at a breakfast show in a while... it felt good, damn good. i am so excited to see more shows.... it felt like the energy of 2005 last night.... honestly it was the first time in a while i was thinking "i can\'t f-n wait to hear this recording". . .

hell yeah!

The Dig Saloon Style Breakdown really is nasty. Does anyone know if Tim was playing keyboard too?  Sounds kinda like it for most it. If not wow that would be really impressive. But that breakdown is ill either way. very page like.

my thoughts exactly.

I don\'t think Tim was playing keys but I don\'t remember much from that night now.

The Puppetry and Over Exposure are reeeediculous!!!!
I think those are the best two jams theyve had since striker\'s addition. I know there was a ton of praise for the Utica show, I though it was good, fun, experimental, but sloppy. This show was a lot tighter and I can\'t believe the Pup and OE jams! Wow-wow wee-wow.

nice follow-up review chris.  well thought out.  agreed mostly, except that it was my type of puppetry however, now moving on to TLATG>Overexposure, absolutely perfect and the best one so far as far as i\'m concerned.

now i\'m gonna put myself out there on this one, i\'ll try my best to not sound like a lame ass here, so here goes...i rarely ever get so wrapped up in a song that i take the lyrics literally, but i kinda did on this one.  my grandfather died like 3 weeks ago and i never cried, everyone else did but me, i got a few of those shudders you get when you almost lose it, but that was it.  even carrying the casket with my brother who was crying, toward the grave with eight navy guys on either side saluting, and seeing all the people watching and sobbing, i get nothing.  even after taps was palyed and the 21 gun salute...nothing, just the stupid "shudders."  whatever.  towards the end of TLATG, i got one or two of \'em.  i felt like an idiot but no one saw me, so it was ok.  if they had they probably would have thought, "wow.........that guy just almost cried..........at a breakfast show..........coooool."

so needless to say this one is always gonna have a special spot in my memories, call it what you want, but that\'s just the way it is....can\'t wait for some acoustic shit, should be wildly fun.

Far from a lame ass my friend.. Unless of course I\'m a lame ass. Music is the only thing that consistently brings me to tears. I could go a year without a tear for anything sad or mournful, but music pulls more emotion out of me than anything else (number 2 would be literature... like Huck Finn\'s, "Alright then, I\'ll go to hell." Glorious.) For instance, I was driving to work on Tuesday morning and this Over Exposure completely caught me by surprise, causing my entire body to burn and goosebump. My eyes grew wet. I\'m not saying I busted out tissue, but when it\'s live and in the flesh I have cried many a time at shows. Reba brought me to tears twice, I remember Kimock\'s "Tangled Hangers" did it to me, and I believe "Glory"? by Umphrey\'s did at NYE show, "Triumph" by the Biscuits... I\'m not going to get into The Breakfast, that\'s a tad embarassing. But yeah, so what, call me a hoo haa if you want. I LOVE IT!

I think it\'s great you had this experience.

Oh and by the way, how can you guys, you know who, possibly hate on this Psygn? Naaasty.

^^^^ i get the same feelings, and it\'s so much more transcending when you get to see it live. and to be able to relive those moments listening to recordings....... man i\'m listening to the Acoustic Cafe show....... that whole night was an experience and one i can\'t wait to relive, i WILL NOT miss Wallingford this Sunday.

there is NO such thing as a bad Psygn period
