Title: Wireless router problemo
Post by: bezerker on May 26, 2011, 09:06:11 am
Yesterday I attempted to secure my router because my connection was slow as hell due to others using it.  I was following step by step instructions and I set the WPA without receiving the WPA key, thus basically locking me out of my modem and making it impossible to connect to.  Does anyone here know how to retrieve the WPA key that the modem has ?  I really have to figure this out so any help is appreciated.  Tanx !

What do you mean not retreiving the key?

Anyway you can usually reset routers to have no password by pressing a tiny button on the back that you probably need a paper clip to press.... when it\'s turned on, hold that in for like 30 seconds. Should reset it then you can try again.

Did you forget the key you set?

But yeah, that little black dot is most likely the reset button. Hold that in for like half a minute, then turn the power off and back on. Good chance you\'ll be password-free after that.

Is there a lot of wireless networking and troubleshooting involved in the show production industry?

Don\'t get me wrong, I\'m all for breaking Gavin\'s balls.

Gavin you know if you can\'t get the wireless to reset, you should be able to connect to the internet anyway with a LAN cable.

Plug that shit in the old fashion way, no password required. IDK if you have any of those cables kickin around but I\'m sure somebody does.

How many production Managers does it take to run a show?
Zero
they have.....
How many production Managers does it take to send an email
3 one to tell his pa to turn on the computer
one to have his pa dictate what the other prod manager says

What did the Production Manager say to the crew after a long fucking day?
Didn\'t I do a great job?
I can go all day on this.

make sure to hold it in for at least 30 seconds, brah

then unplug it for like a minute before turning back on.

Different routers require different amounts of time since I don\'t know what kind yours is I don\'t want you to try just pressing it or hold for 10 seconds because that probably won\'t work.

Grab an ethernet cable b4 you get home if you want to be extra sure you got net access tonight. good luck

google:

"Reset the modem from the back, you will need a needle or something, wait until it turns on. Then go to http://192.168.100.1 type on user: *admin* pass: (the HFC MAC ID as password you will find it at the back or at the bottom of the modem) ex: 0015a3e9570f. Remember is case sensitive, good luck. :)"

That stuff after the reset is what you have to do to put a new WEP key on there. If you just want unsecured wireless for the moment you shouldn\'t have to worry about that.

Here is the manual for your router, check out page 14: http://broadband.motorola.com/consumers/products/SBG900/downloads/SBG900_User_Guide.pdf

wish you the best of luck gav, I know you\'ll get all your work done on time!

I have not been happy with our wireless. frustrating. when the phone rings it bumps you from the web, spotty connect-ability, I can\'t wait to get a regular line going. :banghead:
