Title: New Years Eve
Post by: DocEllis70 on November 07, 2004, 06:41:56 pm
was lookin at all the things goin down in the big city for new years and I know i would choose Breakfast, however theres lots of bands playin and Im sure most people will be checkin out bands like String Cheese, Moe. and Biscuits, yet theres millions of people there for new years so theres also a chance of a ragin packed house depending on where they play and if they play there, which was the plan last itme i asked. I was hopin they would have something soon as to promote the heck out of it early...personally, id love a cafe 9 or some kind of local new years show.

Biscuits - seen em once. thats really enough

I will most likely be down a for Breakfast show for NYE and would prefer some local joint over the hassle on NYC.  Brickhouse?

I would be totally fine with a NYC Breakfast NYE show....

However I think BAR would be a cool ass spot.

NYE in NYC with The Breakfast

I love the idea, book it soon and don\'t do it in Brooklyn!

The String Cheese Incident
Radio City Music Hall New York, NY

 Gov\'t Mule
 Beacon Theatre New York, NY

 The Disco Biscuits
 Hammerstein Ballroom New York, NY

 Particle
Buckethead
 Irving Plaza New York, NY

 Wilco
The Flaming Lips
Madison Square Garden New York, NY

 Zen Tricksters
Tribeca Rock Club New York, NY

 Benevento/Russo Duo
Mike Gordon
B.B. King Blues Club New York, NY

this is the list from jambase on shows ALREADY SCHEDULED for nyc on new years eve. if anyone thinks that the competition won\'t affect the attendance is being naive. also, a show in nyc, in my opinion, will preclude a number of sincere fans from attending, as a number of people have kids and or family obligations to attend to that night. IMO a nyc show would be a big mistake unless it\'s to warm up someone like mule, and that would be a smaller mistake. stay home and have a family type celebration. Cafe 9, while not the ritz, would suit our purposes nicely.

I\'d love to see the breakfast and Benevento/Russo on NYE this year.

What\'s with this schedule? Have all these bands declared war on one another?!! I too would choose breakfast in a local venue if it were an option, but are there really that many people who could pack out all those venues?

Anyone know what panic are doing for NYE - not in NYC too?

Panic has taken all of 2004 off.  Rumor has it that the comeback shows will be at the end of March... 4 nights @ the Fox Theater in Atlanta.... without a doubt, one of the finest venues I\'ve ever seen a show in... anyone else ever been there?

I am going to ink the Breakfast onto my calendar for NYE till the show details become available.

I may have to work on New Years day though.  All investment accounts that trade Turkish Lira securities need to be modified because the currency conversion ratio is going to be changing.  It\'s a crappy currency to have to deal with because 1 dollar = something in range of 10 million Liras.  When you hold a position that is equal to 10 million U.S. Dollars and it is denominated in Liras, you can imagine that the number is astronomical and very clumsy to deal with.

I guess the translation is as follows:

The Breakfast will be my first priority on NYE if they are within a few hours of Massachusetts, though I will go in to work the next day if they really need me.  I will still be on PB high and could probably use the overtime money anyway.

Thanks marcial - knew the band were on a break, but didn\'t know when they were coming back. Never know, they might actually make it to the UK next year - they cancelled the last two shows I was going to.

Nope - never had the pleasure of seeing \'em live. Have four albums and half a dozen live shows, though the quality of those shows is generally not great. I know they play loud, but have yet to hear a really good recording. Guess I\'m spoilt by dave, matt and chris\' recordings!!

I haven\'t been to either of those places yet so I\'m in.  Let me think of the venues I have been to in greater Staven: Callahan\'s, Toad\'s, Blues Cafe (are they still open?), Annex Club.  Can\'t remember any others on my list down there.

Post by: freddiewaht on November 09, 2004, 01:01:35 pm
well max creek is playing at toads so cancel that out...callahans,well if breakfast ever resorted to playing at callahans for nye they should just pack it in.(the band, not the building i mean)..blues cafe.i havent even heard of that place in a few years..and annex club is also off limits because of the nosebiting incident..which coincidentally is a great name for a band.

NNNNNNNOOOOOOOO

I really don\'t want to see the Breakfast open for Max Creek.  Though I have never seen them, I hear a more appropriate title would be Max Weak.  I don\'t even know if I will come down if they are going to get a 50 minute slot.  Not worth it for 20 bucks.  I think PB headlined there last year for NYE.  Maybe it is a joint show?  I guess I will wait for further details on this thing.

Wow I may have to rethink my NYE plans. One of my best friends is from Ct. and Max Creek is his favorite band from back in the day. Seeing as my favorite band is The Breakfast this is def. getting more interest than I 1st thought. I know alot of people are Creekbashers but Scotty is one of the best guitarists out there playing Americana rock and roll flat out.

I am annoyed as heck because NYE with the Breakfast is my top priority this year, especially since I may be heading west in the coming months.

Unless the show is considerably close and reasonably priced ($20 is too much) I generally don\'t go to openers.  We have already paid our dues by supporting them at openers over the years.  If they are going to open for New Years, it may as well be for a band that is worth opening for, not one that isn\'t going to do much for them.  All the Toad\'s shows were Max Creek openers till 2001.  I can\'t remember them opening up for M.C. in their own backyard since.  I understand getting a small role at Camp Creek or one of those other festivals, but not NYE.   I hope this is the last time they open at a major event like NYE.  They could at least share the night.  Is the night supposed to be totally dedicated to Max Creek with a little side of Breakfast early in the night?  Maybe they get 1.5 hours but I won\'t assume anything.  Whoever is booking shows should reconsider and try to pull some strings with some of the heavyweight bands playing in NYC on 12/31.

Is it too late for them to withdraw from the offer?  We need a complete set or two with several hours of Breakfast!

I am driving to Porter\'s straight from work in Boston (hopefully an early release day) so I won\'t be able to give you a ride Greg.  That would suck if we both drive there considering that you only live a couple towns away from me.  Hitchhike and I\'ll drive you home.

I wouldn\'t be upset with an opener slot if it were a killer slot.  These Max Creek people have had more than enough exposure to PB.  They\'ve played Camp Creek twice and opened for Max Creek at least 5 other times.  Enough already.  To make things worse, about 80% of Creek fans are over 40 and set in what they like, and they don\'t go out to see crazy amounts of shows like the younger heads do.  Opening for Max Creek does not make you cool.  I\'m not a huge Bisco fan either, but I would be PSYCHED if they were opening for Bisco at Irving Plaza.  (And I would certainly stay for Bisco)  Like \'em or not, those are the heads we need getting into this band.

It could be worse though.  Addison Groove Project is playing in Jackson Hole, Wyoming.

Maybe they are opening for a subpar band and will be driving over 2000 miles to get there.  that\'s worse than opening for Creek in CT.

Ha

Hope they are the headliner in Wyoming.

Even though The Breakfast isn\'t ready to sell out Madison Square Garden just yet, why aren\'t the bigger bands lining up to add the Breakfast to the roster?

Maybe they are afraid that their fans will no longer follow them and flock to Breakfast shows?

Because the entire population of Wyoming is less than Toads\' capacity.

Oh well, it\'s one show.  If more good venues like The Call keep rolling in, then this won\'t matter.

I got myself fantasizing now though: Irving Plaza, 500 Bisco fans, smack \'em around with a little jam > WUIAC > Puppetry > Doughboy > Escher\'s Etchings > Echidna\'s Arf > Buquebus > Mooboo\'s > Taboo or Not Taboot and fuhgeddaboutit, good night, game over, 500 new fans.

as the Jedi said, "nothing confirmed".....  I am not really worried.  I have my fingers crossed for BAR.  I have heard rumors that BAR won\'t pay enough, but I dont buy that.

As for local speculations I would be okay with Toads, but if the Breakfast was opening for Max Creek, it would be a huge disappointment and make me completely second guess the new management that they are now with.  Which brings me to another question.  Do the Breakfast have an acting manager, or is it still Ronnie and Timmy running that?  What is up with the new company they signed with?  I haven\'t seen/heard anything from them on either website.  Not that fans are privy to all the new shit that comes to light, but it would be good to see something from this company.....

What about the breakfast doing a private NYE?  I am sure that would be hard to pull off with less than 2 months to put together, but then it would give them the freedom to playwith who they want (ie The mothafuckin PEOPLES BAND!)

i like Stevie\'s idea that they should play the 45 minute set and have gear ready to go somewhere else in the area and under some other name, such as the Wild Pack of Asscracks, and we can all merge and get a nice set. changing the name would just be so toads cant break their balls, however if they found out, probably wouldnt be too cool with it.
Title: New Years Eve
Post by: Wolfman on November 13, 2004, 01:24:15 pm
Actually Doc, that\'s not such a bad idea.  Toad\'s probably wouldn\'t care as long as PB drew people who paid the 20 bucks.  Toad\'s only complaint could be that all the Breakfast fans left and didn\'t stay all night to drink.  But all the band needs to do to get past this is convince Toad\'s that none of their fans were going to stay for Max Creek anyways.  So, if we get like 30 ticket-holding fans who are over 21 to sign something saying "There is no way I would stay for Max Creek after The Breakfast" then the band can play somewhere else for the rest of the night with no repercussions.  Cafe 9?

Actually Wah came up with the WPOAc pseudonym.  But that is what should happen.  Sitting in Toads last night waiting for Badfish to come on, the house announcer was running through the upcomming shows and I was so depressed when he got to December 31st and said "Max Creek with guests The Breakfast"

How do you headline a venue on NYE one year, and then play the same venue the next NYE as an opener for an over the hill and far away shadow of a musical act????

Whats that place in Staven where the Freakout was cancelled because of a fight?  Why cant they play the second half of the night at a place like that, with no real curfew?  If they played the Toads opening slot with Creeks drums and keys, the band could get their equiptment set up at the second venue and just BLOW out of toads as soon as the breakfast set was over............

Listen to me now and hear me later....

there is NO WAY I would stay at Toads if the Breakfast played an opening slot for Max Creek on NYE...

As of right now, the NYE show is not totally confirmed.  It should be confirmed by this Monday.  If they play Toads, it will more than likely be an hour and fifteen minute set.  Then Max Creek.  But like I said, it will be confirmed (yay or nay) by Monday.

There is also a possibility of Cafe Nine on 12/17/04 (Friday)

It\'s not really the opening slot that pisses me off as much as the fact that they would be opening for a tired old band.  No offense to the Creek or their fans, but it is going to be 2005 not 1985....

Why is there no BAR talk at all?  I would think that would be such a great place for NYE or even any breakfast show.  They get a great crowd,  the people that work there are great.  and there is a lot of room to move.

The Cafe9 show is something to look forward to, but that room is so unfriendly.  Believe me, I had a blast and a half at the 4 Cafe9 shows this summer, but lets keep on moving onward and upward...

I agree with you Gencs on the whole Creek/BAR issue.  BAR would be ideal; with a perfect size room.

The Turkey run will be nice thought....Porters > thanksgiving > NYC > Sullys......And that is what kills me.  They play a sick local run on thanksgiving weekend and then fizzle out by new years...Oh yeah and lets not forget the Cafe9 consolation show in mid/late december.

The Turkey run will be awesome...those three dates alone should prove to be memorable.  And again, once December begins to take shape, one never knows what may be in store.

I\'ve got some mando strings to change....

How about that VFW-style place where Ronnie had his stag?  We could probably get that.  Anyone remember Mike\'s Song > Humpty Dance > Weekapaug Groove?  There is definitely musical magic in that room.

Unfortunately I missed Ronnies stag, but I remember reading that setlist and just scratching my head with my mouth hanging open....

That would be great, because then the band could charge what they want and keep all the money...  We would be able to get our full NYE show....Its a win win situation all around....

I really do hope that some sort of effort to bail and find a new place happens soon.

Well, most importantly, it\'s just one show.  If other good shows come down the pipe, we\'ll forget all about it.  But I do wish we could just have our own ser-head party rather than pay $20 for 45 minutes.  (And 19 of those dollars will go to another band.)  There are rooms all over Connecticut.  What about Murphy and Scarletti\'s in Farmington, they\'ve got a huge stage.  No wait, I\'ve got it...

...it could only be...

The Powder Hollow Barn!  Who remembers THIS SHOW?

Setlist: 12/31/01 Powder Hollow Barn; Enfield, CT

I: jam > Rufus > Superfly Phaddy Fat > See The Light > Garcian Fishbowl > Hardluck Harry > It’s the End of the World As We Know It* > Mayfly Disarray > Love Lake > Attraction to Shade Ditty > Flower Punk > LDZ > Son of Simpleton

II: jam > Sundance > Wake Up in A Coma > Tribal Funk Affliction^ > One Big Mob% > Frankly Po Zest > Escher’s Etchings > Episode 1 (Happy) > Mooboo’s Voodoo (Episode 2) > Drunk Monk Bar > Fairy > Score > Drum Solo >The Grand Scheme of Things

III: Puppetry > Auld Lang Syne > Buquebus > Sex Machine% > Spunk > The Chase > Gladys Pimp and Kangaroos With Me

E: Food For Thought# > Question Mark and the Mind > Food For Thought > Taboot or Not Taboot

* R.E.M. cover – first time played
^Unfinished
% w/ Dave Pecoraro on vocals
% w/ Seth Wolfman on saxophone
# Thought: Yesterday was the end of the new beginning. Today is the beginning of the new end. (followed by segue into Question Mark)

WOW. I need to give this show a few days to sink in, but right now I feel that this is hands-down the best PB show to date. Every song was played to its utmost potential, the setlist construction was phenomenal, and the vibe in the packed room was nothing short of love-fest 2002. Everyone went absolutely nuts from the first chords of Rufus. After playing a Camp Creekesque Rufus the segued seamlessly into Superfly, and again the whole place was going crazy at every part, particularly Tim’s 4-bar solos. The next 3 songs all had great jams that were all distinctly different. Then an unexpected cover, which always adds spice to any show, and this particular cover was a perfect call. End Of the World as We Know It was rollicking plenty enough to get the crowd going and also has lots of appropriate implications for the night at hand. Love Lake perfectly described the room, perhaps that’s why it came out, and then built into a totally sinister jam that led to ATSD. Gotta love that sinister Love Lake!…another brilliant and unique segue. After ATSD came Flower Punk, LDZ, and Son of Simpleton. You can’t rock any harder than that. The buzz in the crowd all throughout setbreak was: “I can’t believe that’s only the first set!” Set II opened with a Sundance that measured 8.6 on the Richter scale. The jazzy opening of the tune was a nice contrast to the ferocious end of first set. WUIAC was a great way to do a psychedelic slide out of Sundance, then it was time to bring in the Tribal Funk! The realization that the room was packed to the rafters may have inspired One Big Mob, I dunno, but it was certainly another appropriate tune. Great job on the vox Pec! Frankly Po Zest and the place is now really bumpin’, and then a sweet call to change the mood with Escher’s Etchings. They’re really starting to get this tune down, great dynamics tonight. At long last, we finally got Episode 1 and 2 back to back! All throughout Mooboo’s people were getting really revved up in anticipation of a possible Episode 3, but not tonight. Some were disappointed momentarily, but I tend to feel that you can’t throw all your super-special stuff into one night. Episode 1> Episode 2 is still really cool and it’s New Year’s, gotta save some stuff for later! Drunk Monk Bar was a good pick, since we hadn’t had a hard rocker since FPZ. Fairy…man, I love Fairy! Score kicked ass and I thought it would be the set closer, but as it ended one man was left playing, and that man was Adrian. Holy mackerel, this was a drum solo for the ages! After banging on the wall, the mic stands, some loose random objects and his own noggin, Adrian located the drums and went methodically berserk. It was hard to tell which was going to explode first: Adrian, the drums, or the crowd. When it was all over, emerging from the deafening ovation was the drumbeat to Grand Scheme, which was the perfect song to end the set. Epic and contemplative, Grand Scheme had us foaming at the mouth for set III. Setbreak in the crowd was a huge forum on what would be the last and first songs of going and coming years. Some people were even making odds. (Buquebus was the top pick at 3:2.) Anticipation was through the roof as the band came out at 11:47. A clock was projected on the wall above the band. What would they play, what would they play?! Tim just stood there with a huge grin for a moment as if to say: “You guys really wanna know what we’re gonna play, don’t you?” The selection was Puppetry. Superb call! It came as a surprise to some, but it was definitely mentioned in the crowd a few times during setbreak. The jam was an absolutely tremendous rock/trance hybrid reminiscent of Baker Quad. Everyone was jumping around completely delirious and hugging during the last five minutes of the year, then 2002 was upon us! The band played Auld Lang Syne while the free love exchange continued in the crowd. After a few choruses of that came the song everyone was waiting for all night, the song that has packed so much muscle into so many sets for the band this year, Buquebus. I’ve never seen a crowd go crazier at any show for any band, ever. It didn’t matter that it was a tad bit predictable, it’s what everyone wanted to hear and it was definitely PB’s song of the year. Both jams were extended and it was plain to see that the band was putting every ounce of energy into each note. Sex Machine was a fantastic funky call to maintain the party atmosphere. Thanks for letting me play! Spunk and The Chase were extreme voltage, and Gladys Pimp finished the show off beautifully with a long funk jam. What a show! What could they possibly have left for the encore? When the band sparked up Food for Thought everyone was thoroughly intrigued. The crowd hung on every note waiting to hear how Tim would some up the year gone by and the year to come in just a couple of thoughts. First he laid down a philosophical juxtaposition about beginnings and ends, and then, almost magically, the band segued into Question Mark and the Mind. A musical Food for Thought! And what a tasteful song to play! They played ? beautifully and then got back to FFT without missing a beat and finished it up. Question Mark was such a great selection in that spot. Music is as much about the message as it is about movin’ and groovin’, and the band showed a lot of maturity in realizing this and playing an original that fits the times so well. Finally, to wrap things up, they busted out Taboot or Not Taboot, a great way to finish up in classic PB funk-party style. 3 sets plus super party mood equals what is indisputably one of the top-notch PB shows of all time. I had such a blast partying with all of you as always, we have the best scene of any band anywhere! It was definitely an appropriate finish to my year. HAPPY NEW YEAR!! SEE YOU IN 2002!!

Peace and vibes,

Wolfman

Man, I dreamt well last night.

I saw on the website that The Breakfast slot is from 9-11:15 for the NYE gig. That is 2 hours and 15 min. of Breakfast. Some of the best Breakfast I have on disc is heard in that amt of time.  They get a Freakin\' great Opening slot  as far as exposure as this show will sell out and they get 2 hours and 15 min.!! It\'s not like they got shafted on time and hell they may have headlined last year but as has been posted b4 this time \'round they do not have to promote as hard and are getting PAID. PLUS IT"S THE FUCKIN" BREAKFAST AT HOME! What else do all you complainers want? SHHEEEESSH!

The Breakfast will be co-billing Toad\'s Place with the legendary Max Creek for New Year\'s Eve. The Breakfast play from 9 to 11:15pm.

Definitely not as dire as previously discussed.  The bright side:  the Breakfast plays early enough so that people can enjoy the music.  By the time Creek comes on, everyone will be buzzed and amped up from the Breakfast.  If Breakfast was slated for the later slot, many people would be too drunk to remember the show.  I have several shows like that.  I don\'t remember any specific details but do remember seeing a raging show the next day.

As stated before Creek has been around forever. They seem to have the largest following in the North East. They play a lot of "Grateful Dead" esque music. maybe with a litte southern rock flare ?

It is an interesting co-bill for a Breakfast NYE show but at the very least there will be a good sized crowd. The Creek Family will be out in full force.

I would imagine everybody from Wormtown will be at the show as well. If you find hippies dancing amusing, this show should give you enough comedy to last you the entire New Year ;)

NEW YEAR\'S EVE WITH MAX CREEK

Friday 12.31.04

Somebody still needs to explain why the Breakfast will make more money opening for someone than headlining.  That\'s the reason the new management gave - that the Breakfast needs to pay their bills ect., ect. But if  $19 goes to the other band and  $1 goes to the Breakfast, how is this advantageous?

Seeing as it\'s a co-bill I doubt the split is as drastic as that. I can not believe how many people are complaining abt this show. If I lived out there I would be STOKED!!! Come on it\'s close, cheap comparatively, Max Creek is NOT a bad band , The Breakfast get more exposure than if they went and did a show on their own, I could go on and on abt the good things abt this show. if that\'s the case, i think it\'d be wise to throw a P&R somewhere in there..

actually, scratch the first sidebar, and it all seems pretty logical..

hey are there any deals for the people who are just going to see the The Breakfast. I\'m not about paying 20 bucks to check out one set and jet to hang with my boys seems kind of superfluous. how about if i give the band 10bucks and sombody lets me in the side door, i\'ll buy you a beer

Indeed...
as of right now, I will not be goin to Richters tonight (65% no 35% yes).

I did hear that TPalms will be heading there today for a face to face with Dieter.

Can someone estimate the times for each of these venues?

I have absolutely no idea when I\'ll be leaving work in Boston tomorrow so I can\'t predict which place I\'ll be arriving at first.  I suppose I\'ll go straight to Toad\'s if I get to CT in the 8pm neighborhood.  If I get released early from work (I\'m thinking there is a decent chance I will) I hope to hit some of the pre-game festivities.

See you all soon!

I hear there is a chance the temps will rise into the 50\'s tomorrow so I expect you to have your Reebok Pumps laced up with the tongues fully inflated tomorrow.

I would like to see a full game with Breakfast people.  I\'m going to be making house calls and waking up every lazy ass on the board.

Have fun everyone. Safe drivin\'.  Caravan if possible to help avoid a HLH situation. Hear\'s to all the songs being played tonight being best of versions for \'04.

Peace all, it\'s been a fun year. To anyone that may have been offended by any of my posting, I am sorry you are so sensitive.

For the record I think Wah is a scraggly ass bum but i think the same of my older brother also and love him just the same. So take that how you will Freddie and to those that can\'t take a joke put me on the ignore list for \'05 now and save yourself the frustration.

The dance medley was awesome!  Must have been around 5am. Mike and I got another one going around 7:30/8:00am for a few songs.  It was all energy dancing after sunrise.

Afterparty was awesome.  Dave served up round after round of Russian redheaded sluts.  Even around sunrise, Dave came towards the drink table with another case of energy drinks and called everyone over for a slut.  It was funny because he was so excited that you would have thought it was the first round of the night.  Even at 11am after only sleeping for a couple hours, Dave came downstairs with full enthusiasm and rallies Mike, Todd and I for a trip to a Staven diner.

Mike (Helluvahat) was pounding open, leftover champagne bottles at 7am like a champ.

Beer pong games were classic.  Some of the best taunting as teams and/or individuals squared off.   I hope there are some pictures of the beer pong nonsense.  Some of the highlights were the "suck my balls" comments and gestures while an opposing team was about to throw.  Also some great comments from Spacebrush Maturo directed toward Dave (another Stavenite named Dave) about his chest looking like a sweater etc.

Several wrestling matches in the basement as well.

At one point, Justin Maturo tried to dunk someone\'s head in the kitty litter box (can\'t remember who at the moment) and was running around the room threatening people with the poop scooper.

There are probably enough funny quotes from the all nighter to justify a new thread.

Great start to 2005!
