Title: The ONE and ONLY Episode III Thread!
Post by: Wolfman on April 06, 2005, 09:05:28 pm
Let\'s go people, never too early to start the anticipation.  Who\'s PUMPED for EPPY III baby?  The greatest story ever told will be completed.  We are so privileged to be alive for this epic event.  Do you realize that this movie will draw more people than the Pope?

What do you want to see?  Are you getting in line for tickets weeks in advance?  Cyber-geeks, start your lightsabers!

And by the way, don\'t you think that in honor of Eppy III, that the Breakfast should play their own Eppy III the same week?

That\'s only b/c not everyone has access or means to see the Pope.

Back on topic, can\'t wait for Star Wars!!!!  Can\'t wait for Obi Wan to fuck Anakin\'s shit up!!!

I\'m posting this again as it seems we need @ least 2 threads for every damn subject on this board.
This movie totally has the potential to be the best of the six. I really have a feeling it will be. Fans have been waiting for a few specific things which we get finally.

I mean we get the Obi-Wan/Anakin fight which forces Anakin into the Armor. We get the fight that sends Yoda into hiding on Dagobah, Friggin\' Yoda the dopest Jedi needs to hide! Who is more of a Badass? We find out. We see more of Anakin\'s vaunted Pilot skills. I could go on.
Hell\'s yes this will Rock!

I call "bait and switch" on this thread title. There is only one Episode III that most Breakfast fans care about and it was not written by George Lucas.

I wish I could take my nephew to see the new Star Wars. He and I will probably have to have a post show discussion after he sees it.

Ha, yeah, the first couple of sentences in Seth\'s post had me all excited. Was thinking perhaps he had some inside information that I wasn\'t aware of.

I do have such information, however, if I were to elaborate it here then it would not be "inside" info anymore, would it?  Can\'t call bait and switch when I put the thread in Inner Glimpse.  You knew what you were signing up for when you went into this forum.  I did have to give it some thought which forum it would go in, but since it\'s in Inner Glimpse and not Grand Scheme it is thus clearly a movie thread.  Kinda funny though, how an epic, long-awaited movie and an epic long-awaited song have the same name.

i sure hope Lucas doesn\'t wuss out on this one... not that i didnt enjoy episode I and II, they were good and all... but this movie certainly does have the potential to be the best, and i hope it turns out so! i\'d like to see less computer-generated stuff... i think thats what i miss the most from the original trilogy: being able to look at something and really think, for a second at least, that it could be real.... the computer effects in the last two movies, while totally awesome, really took away from that effect of "it could be real"...

...either way, i\'ll probably wait in line for opening night tickets ;)

amen, this one has so much potential, theres so much story for lucas to cram in there, i hope he does better than I and II.  i\'d like to see less CG as well, but somehow i dont believe that will be the case.  :(  come on lucas!  i didnt get star wars tattoos for nothing!

Yeah man, that\'s pressure.  If this movie sucks and everyone decides that Star Wars wasn\'t that great after all, you\'re screwed.  Kinda like a certain nameless board member and his "PB" tattoo"...boy is he fucked :P.  Even if the band takes over the world he\'s still toast.  It would be like getting a "Warlocks" tattoo and then watching them change their name to The Grateful Dead and take off.  "Hey man, nice tattoo, but who the fuck are the Warlocks?"

Been playing the new game and the footage included in it was worth the price of the game in itself. If the movie plays out like this game we are in for one hell of a ride!!!!!!!!!

got the game, but can\'t play it til i see the movie..

but i highly recommend getting the Episode III Soundtrack (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000850IS6/pbfanscom-20/), which comes with a bonus DVD: Star Wars: A Musical Journey.

Created especially to accompany the CD release, the thrilling 70-minute DVD features 16 brand-new music videos set to selections from all six of John Williams\' unforgettable Star Wars film scores and has been designed around a timeline that will take the viewer chronologically through the entire saga. Each movement is introduced by actor Ian McDiarmid (who plays Senator Palpatine in the films) and features a spectacular montage of images, complete with excerpts of the original dialogue and sound effects, set to Williams\' legendary music which has been newly remixed and remastered in 5.1 surround sound. Williams\' principal theme from the new score, entitled "Battle of the Heroes," will be featured in a music video created by Lucasfilm.

The soundtrack packaging will also include liner notes from George Lucas plus an exclusive fold-out poster featuring a montage of images from the film.

Wow Dave, hitting the midnight show and the matinee? That\'s pretty impressive, or pretty geeky, you be the judge.

Can we umm, say, rename this thread to the anticipation thread and then open another one for discussion about the actual movie? Just a thought, cos people like me have every intention on seeing it, just not for another 2 weeks at least ;) and I would rather not have the whole movie in .info transcript form if possible. Just an idea

No can-do buckaroo.  There\'s no "Chase" and "Food For Thought" for movies.  It\'s the ONE AND ONLY Eppy III Thread.  From midnight tonight until you see it, you are out of the proverbial loop!  Besides, what else is there to say about anticipation once the movie is showing?

EPPY III IN 7 HOURS BABY!  The "mighty" Jedis are about to get FUCKED UP for the first time in human history.  I want death, I want doom, I want disaster.  I want dead Jedis.  I want the alliance getting wrecked by their own army.  I want Yoda giving up hope.  I want Dooku to light up Jarjar Binks like a chirstmas tree.  I want Padme couped up as a worthless slave on Tattoine with her 2 babies and a deadbeat dad.  And speaking of dad, I want Vader to wreck Mace Windu and any other Jedi in his path.  I want murder, despair, and hopelessness in the alliance.  I want the title "Eppy IV: A New Hope" to be justified.

Here we go people, the post-viewing portion of the thread!

I\'m not here to recap the plot, but if you haven\'t seen it you might not want to read this.  Quick opinions:

1.  Easily, far and away, without question the best of the new eppys.  Possibly better than or equal to Eppy 6, possibly equal to 4 and 5.  Will have to wait a few months and let it sink in before determining that.  But the fact that we\'re even mentioning it is

2.  We knew it was coming, but this changes the perspective on Vader so much.  All those people walking out of the theater in the 70s thinking he was the most heinous villain ever, and it turns out he\'s a tragic hero.  Unbelievable.

3.  Good job tying up the loose ends.  Spent a lot of time on the important stuff (Anakin\'s demise, Jedi vs Senate rift), while quickly tying up some of the less important stuff. (Like how Obiwan learns immortality.)  I feel quite satisfied in how everything ties together.

4.  Two crucial moments that weren\'t totally convincing: When Anakin swears himself to Palpatine and when Padme leaves him.  Decent enough lead-up to these events, but not all there in the moment.

5.  Action scenes left little to be desired.

6.  Would have liked to have seen Jarjar get pummeled by Dooku or Anakin or someone way too powerful for him.

7.  Loved the mood in the last hour.  Death, destruction, angst, anguish, hopelessness.  Kinda like The Wall.  And I got to see Jedis get minced.  I am quite satisfied!

:vader:

Eppy III the song would be TOTALLY appropriate tonight!  Not only is tonight the debut of the "other" Eppy III, but a bunch of people skipped Timmy to see it.  I wouldn\'t hold it against him at all if he debuted it tonight.  Perfect place for it.

In one scene featured in the 2004 DVD release that wasn’t present in the Special Edition we take a brief trip to Naboo, home of Padme Amidala, Emperor Palpatine and, of course, Jar Jar Binks and the Gungans. Here it is in all it’s glory, complete with Gungans shouting ‘Wesa free!’…

1st off Dave I think Wolf was saying the action scenes left little to desire meaning they were fulfilling and did not leave you desiring more.
As for Vader being a tragic hero I think Lucas turned Vader from the ultimate evil into a sniveling little brat that just wanted to be loved(boohoo). Most horrible scene in the movie,Vader getting up like Frankenstein and then letting out that PITIFUL NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My lord George how could you let that slip by? Horrible. The look in his eyes though as the Helmet is coming down WAS PERFECT like oh fuck what have I done? Overall I have to say having known the story most of my life it was very pleasing to actually see it all go down. I am unsure of its place in the line yet but left the theater thinking it was @ least as good as Empire in many ways but I have to say no matter what was done with these prequels the acting was totally subpar to any of the first 3 movies hands down.
That\'s my .02.

Think you misunderstood me here.  "Leaving little to be desired" means they were very good and satisfying.  Leaving a lot to be desired would have meant they were bad.

Oh yeah there were some cornball moments, Vaderstein being a perfect example and maybe a couple of the Padme/Anakin exchanges, and the rope-swinging wookies doing a perfect Tarzan call.  I think you just gotta pass them over and think about how the really important moments were executed and the movie as a whole.

Speaking of which, I think they blew it with one of the most important moments in the whole story, when Obiwan slices up Anakin.  You barely saw it if at all.  This shoulda been slow motion, in full view etc.

I don\'t know how you put Eppy 2 ahead of this though.  I just watched it again on Sunday night.  I didn\'t even want to finish it.  It\'s not even good.

Leith,

I think it\'s something, that the "hardcore" Star War fans waited for a month, just for tickets on opening night. Good for them.

Yeah I guess good for them but I think that I get more for my time and $$ waiting in line for 14 hours to see 2 DAYS of Phish @ Big Cypress whereas they sat in line for a month for a 2hr and 10 min. movie. Whatever floats ones boat I guess.

good for them??  they are total losers......they stood outside for 1 month to see a movie that everybody across the country saw that same exact night or will see it within a week or 2.  They should have been working like all the rest of us.

as for one day in traffic, that\'s different.  That was a one shot deal, not a movie which plays every 15 minutes.

hope nobody\'s feelins were hurt by this, just my $.02

I don\'t ever remember anyone saying this was a Breakfast tune. Timmy wrote it, doesn\'t mean the Breakfast have to play it. This is the perk of being on Timmy Tour. That may be the only time the song is heard for years. So, if ya\'ll think that the Breakfast are going to rip out this song, I wouldn\'t hold your breathe.

Not any time soon anyways. Tim said the band hasn\'t even heard it, let alone seen the lyrics. BTW- date at the top of the lyrics page was April 2000. Tim said he wrote it in 1998. Could easily be another 2-5 years until the unveiling of "The Monster".

"Happy" vs. "Phantom Menace"
"Mooboo\'s Voodoo" vs. "The Clone War"
"???" vs. "Revenge of the Sith"

Back to the point of this thread, Star Wars epi III....

I\'ve seen it twice and those will be last times I see it until its out on DVD.

I did not like it at all.  I would rate the new ones in the order they came out with the first being the best and the third being the worst, maybe tied with the second for horribeness.

I think the main reason I didn\'t like it was hayden christenson\'s acting was so bad.  The main point of the movie was to see his change to the dark side but his acting was so awful, you fail to see why he really did it.  You get a bunch of half ass reasons (except saving his Padme\'s life, though he can never act like he really cares), but in the end, he chooses power, which is something that never seemed to drive him throughout the movie.....or at least he didn\'t act like it.

I also thought the guy that played palpatine\'s performance was horrible....since he had a large part in the movie, it wrecked it.

I\'ve just never been in a movie (that I can remember) where the acting was so bad that ppl actually laughed at it (it happened both times I saw it).  I.e. the awful "NOOOOO" from vader, the incredibly awkward love scene on the balcony...the lists goes on.

I thought the CG was cool, but there wasn\'t anything really amazing as compared to the first two.  Same for the fight scenes.

The middle was boring....almost put me to sleep a few times.

I really don\'t understand all the good reviews and how anyone can compare this movie to the old ones.  But everyone is entitled to their opinion....maybe I was just expecting too much.  I just say, thank goodness that 4, 5, 6 are made and can\'t be ruined.

Worst line (among many) in the movie, by the medical droid taking care of Padme:

"She has just lost the will to live."

BARF!!!!!

I have heard similar reviews. It seems as it was a disappointment to many fans. I am not a Star Wars fan but, I don\'t think the prequels could ever live up to the original 3. Different times, different places and different mind sets working on the newer ones.
Good to hear some criticism...

I thought it was just me but I notcied this too. Definite laughing.
I gotta say, I liked the movie but don\'t think it lived up to the hype.
I thought it did exactly what it was suppose to do, which was show how  Anikin turns into Darth Vader. The acting wasn\'t very good but the story is now complete.

ok.....we were supposed to see the 11:30 screening but the crew i was going with didnt all arive until 11:35....I was not going to be forced to sit in crappy seats even if it would have been right at the beginning.....You aren\'t seeing a whole star wars movie if you miss the mighty intro scroll....so i told them they could go in with the kids to see that one and I would just wait for the 12:30....anywho we all went to the 12:30.....

I loved this movie from opening to closing credits.  Definatly the best of the first 3 episodes...but we all knew this...

When was "good acting" EVER associated with a Star Wars movie...  I mean, the best actor in Ep. 4 - 6 was Alec Guinness.....Harrison Ford was good but he is an action star...not necessarily an actor.....Mark Hamell was the main character.....He\'s now doing a dinner theater version of Guys and Dolls......"Luke be a jedi tonight....do it for yoda and the ewoks"....  So people who argue that the acting was "bad" have no argument in my opinion.....

George Lucas has a wonderful imagination, but cannot write dialogue for shit....Again..blatantly obvious from all the other episodes....so I never have a problem with a corney exchange between 2 starwars characters.....Regarding the Vader "NO" scream...it was strange...very dr. frankenstein and his monster like....but listen to vader at the end of Ep. 4 when the Han blast him out of the sky so Luke can get a clear shot at the death star....cornier than the "no" in Ep. 3....

I thought Hayden Christiansen did an amazing job as Anikin...in both Ep 2 and 3.  Especially where here in ep. 3 every nuance of Anikins character turns to the darkside...though i think Padme says right before she dies, "there is still good in him".  She could feel it as Luke could feel it at the end of Ep.6

I was wondering how they were going to end it...and tie a movie that was made in 2004 to a movie that was made almost 30 years prior....but they did an amazing job...
Visually EP. 3 was like super candy for my eyes.....

The only 2 issues i had with it were stated in wolfys post...Which i just read as not to spoil any of the movie for me.......

This I attribute to the simple to the point story that is the Star Wars saga and the mediocre writing of George Lucas...

All in all here is how i rate the 6 episodes

ep 4
ep 6
ep 3
ep 5
ep 2
ep 1

great movie. thought it was great from beginning to end. anakin\'s struggle, his tears, his confusion, all had me torn. unbelievable visually. the fight scenes were incredible. yoda and palpatine\'s was just insane, and then obviously the one to change it all. but i also wasnt convinced with anakin swearing himself to palpatine, it happened really quick after "What have I done?" they couldve drawn that out a little more, even if it was silence with slow motion looks back and forth or somethin. but i was convinced with Padme leaving him, it had me going and i felt it. id have to say i was much less convinced when Obi-wan watched the security footage of anakin killing children and saying "i cant watch anymore." but fuck it, that movie was the shit.
some quotes i loved (def. not 100% correct):

"Good relations with the Wookies, I have." Yoda
"I feel lost." Anakin
"Into hiding we must go until the right time." Yoda
"If you\'re not with me, you\'re my enemy." -now- Darth Vader.. and uhhh, can you say BUSH?!
"Where\'s Padme?" Darth Vader showing emotions.. are you ser?!

awesome.

\'Star Wars\' fans hurt replicating sabers

The Associated Press

(Updated Wednesday, May 25, 2005, 6:59 AM)

LONDON (AP) - Two "Star Wars" fans were critically injured when they tried to replicate the light sabers used in the movie by filling glass fluorescent light tubes with fuel, police and a news report said Tuesday.

The pair, Mark Webb, 20, and an unidentified 17-year-old girl, were planning to make a video recording of a duel like those in the just-released blockbuster film "Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith," Britain\'s Press Association news agency said.

They were injured when one of the makeshift sabers exploded Sunday evening in the woods in Hemel Hempstead, north of London.

Hertfordshire Police said a third person present when the explosion happened had been questioned. The department said the two who were injured were in critical condition at a burns unit in Chelmsford, Essex.

"At this stage we are unable to confirm the exact circumstances, but glass tubes and traces of accelerant (flammable substance) were found at the scene," police said

Why people treat star wars like cassablanca or citizen kane or on the waterfront or the godfather or any other film that is true mastery in the art of cinematic perfection, is completely out of my real of comprehension.

Just because these films became a cult classic to our generation doesnt make them "classic cinema"... it is a ficticious world invented in the mind of a genius who had the guts and determination to see his vision come to life.  Nobody ever said that these movies are supposed to reinvent the art of making movies...or the actors have taken their trade to a new level.....they are an indulgence by a genius that was embraced by  millions.....

the douchebag who went through all the trouble to rip apart the entire star wars machine missed the entire point of what these movies are....

however.....what george lucas did and has done with all 6 of his star wars movies is acutally stimulate the progress of the special effects in movies.  obviously special effects dont make a movie good, but he is doing things that nobody has done nor been even able to conceptualize let alone make happen...so in 10 years when we are watching fully digitial movies in some new crazy format where the screens are almost twice as big...or certain effects are used in an oscar winning film, really pulls the viewers into the story more than ever before...the haters can bow and insert george lucas\' flacid penis into their mouths.....

again i reiterate.....did anyone one takethe die hard trilogy, the star trek movies, the lethal weapon series, and countless others entertaining films as serious life changing pieces of our culture that will stand the test of time as more than classics?????? no....they are entertainment...just as star wars and all related movies are....it just so happens that millions became endeared to simple characters that everyone could relate to in some way.....

P.S. George Lucas is a business genius and will always be known for revolutionizing marketing in hollywood....

now off to timmy tour....
