#timmy soundchecks on brand new Taylor acoustic (soundcheck contained an instrumental Waste)

1: Wake Up In a Coma>Fairy, GBFBITS>Great Big Jam>Summertime Blues, No Regret, LDZ>Hard Luck Harry>HLH Jam>Son of Simpleton, Beef Barley>Beef Barley Jam>Food For Thought>White Wedding>Food For Thought, Dig

2: Question Mark and the Mind, Vera Street, Doughboy*, Supafly Phaddy Phat, The Eleven (Thats it for the other one), What the Funk, Sleeping Beauty>Jam>Drunk Monk Bar, Dimention 5, Wild Pack of Asscracks

E: Sweet Leaf

Tonight proves many things.  For one, Porters is the best venue in the state.  The staff is friendly, and always there when you need em.  The scene is so fucking chill.

The vortex hole in the floor/ceiling was one of my favorite things about the 3-12-04 show, but it had to go and it did.  Nice job.

As for the Breakfast, So So Ser.  Coma>Fairy was INTENSE.   Everyone was still getting setlled in, but what a way to kick off the night.

I would love l "last time played" for Summertime Blues,  Great Call

All the jams from tunes tonight were tight and they flowed perfectly with the evening.  nothing seemed forced.

The Eleven or whatever the name of the dead tune (Thats it for the other one) was SICK.  I remember the only 10-31 show not labled "the freakout" at acoustic cafe.  They busted this out on a request, and Kroop had to get up to sing it....tonight they had it.   what a SER suprise....

More to come,  looking forward to reading comments and stories about tonight for a few weeks to come.....

thanks to the breakfast, porters, and all that were there tonight.....
great evening.....

The Dead song they covered was not The Eleven.  It was The Other One (or officially Cryptical Envelopement).    Please make the correct adjustment to the archive databases.

Another stellar show at Porters!!!

Another ser Porter\'s show.  WUIAC is an alltime great opener, then a rockin\' Fairy.  They\'ve definitely taken out some of the soul and emotion in Fairy and traded it in for some edge since the early versions.  It really works well both ways, but considering how many more songs they have with rock edge, I feel that their real emotion tunes (Fairy, Mooboo\'s, Vera Street, Question Mark etc.) should be kept guarded.  Looking at the setlist, they played 3 out of 4 of those last night...nice!  LDZ > HLH > SOS was crazy, Harry was a great jam that resembled the beginning of a roller-coaster ride; very gradual and exciting buildup, then a huge swoop down all at once.  They landed back in a mini-jam with the Harry changes and Tim playing the melody, and Freddie made the excellent point that this could be considered a "Harry Reprise".

(To digress into setlist geekdom for a moment, I think that Freddie is right, and that if there is a Hardluck Harry Reprise, this is what it is.  My only question is, can a song segue into its own reprise, or is that just an extension of the same song?)

Anyways, this was definitely the best jam of the first set, Beef Barley was good but last week\'s was off the charts.  FFT was congratulating Ron on getting married, huge grin on his face the whole time.  2nd set...oh my goodness.  Superfly Phaddy Fat > The Other One...are you kidding me?  I mean, who does that?  This is the type of segue you fantasize about that only The Breakfast pulls off.  Unbelievable, and the best part was these 2 minutes where they\'re playing the unmistakable Other One rhythm, and I\'m hanging by a thread waiting to see if Jordan is gonna say "Spanish lady comes to me, she lays on me this rose..." or if it\'s just a really tantalizing tease.  Then he finally busts out with it and I\'m jumping through the roof.  Those were the best two minutes of the show.  The rest of the show rocked hard with DMB, WPOAC, and Sweet Leaf.  I really like Porter\'s, the out-of-the-wayness actually gives it a lot of character and it\'s the best venue for beer since CBC.  Love the new dance floor.  Super time and great to see everyone!  See you next weekend!

Damn seems like a major show in all catagories. As for the name of the song medusanyc Cryptical Envelopment is only a part of the song. It is: That\'s it for the Other One. Damn I missed it. Were all parts played all verses sung?
BTW  Wolf thanx but there is a place for reviews.

A reprise is just that a reprise. Once a song has been left for another song unless it is just an exploration of the melodic or rhythmic theme otherwise known as a tease it is over.

the second set was incredible from the start...the question mark and vera street worked out great together and i felt like i was soaked in static...all fuzzy feeling. doughboy got things bouncing again leading up to a great superfly and a surprising other one.

adrian did a nice job singing summertime blues and sweat leaf. i think if they every do summertime blues again, it really needs to be a bit heavier or fuzzed out ala blue cheer.

had a great time lastnight despite my friends bailing out on me before the show (as usaual) and also the sobriety checkpoint on the way to porter\'s.
"have you had anything to drink tonight?" ummm not yet....but i did eat some ********* about 15 minutes ago!
i could only imagine what woulda happened had i said that...

thanks to everyone who helped me find my phone...and everybody who told me how to find my way back home. was that a fishhook left? a hairpin right?

Few more thoughts about last night:

The Eleven was not the 1st time played last night.  It was played at the only non 10-31 breakfast show not billed as the "Freakout".  Sung by Josh Kroop.

The Sweet Leaf mania at the end was sick.  Adrian was destroying the drums,  Timmy was playing behind the back, Ronnie was flippin out and rocking out, and jordan was playing his organ from the inside......SICK

The Eleven not played last nite. Also not played 10/31/98 or even 10/31/01. However The Other One was played last nite and on 10/31/01. Man if only there was gonna be a GD Diesel :sigh:

wow, you with think with the amount of gd fans on this board we could get this correct.

THEY PLAYED CRYPTICAL ENVELOPMENT
not the eleven, not the other one.

heres why: the eleven, is in 11/8. This song was straight 4/4. The elevens lyrics are different. The other one is an short acoustic song sung by jerry with lyrics "The other day they waited, the sky was dark and faided, solemly they stated, he has to die."

Now, on anthem of the sun, the songs are The other one > Cryptical envelopment. Cryptical Envelopment starts with a climbing bass line by phil, and is sung by bob weir. The lyrics are "Skipping through the lilly fields, I came across an empty space, rainbow spinned around and round left a bus stop in its place, the bus came by and I got on thats when it all began, it was cowboy neil at the wheel the bus to never-never land, commin, commin, comming around, commin, commin, comming around into a circle"
These were the lyrics jordan was singing, thus this was the song they played. The band has been labeling the song incorrectly the whole time, the same way they had eat that phone book quota named inccorrectly.

as far as setlist, here is what I had, which varies from both of the others. Also, I wasnt drinking.

soundcheck:
Jam, The Chase, Jams, Vera st.*, Episode 1*, Jam*

Tim walking around playing the acoustic: Jam*, Waste*

I. Wake up in a coma>fairy 4.0, The great big fierry ball in the sky, summertime blues, no regrets^, LDZ>Hard Luck Harry>Son of simpleton, beef barley, food for though>White wedding%>food for though, Dig

II. Questionmark and the mind*, Vera st.*, Doughboy, Superfly phatty fat**, CRYPTICAL ENVELOPMENT>What the Funk?, Sleeping Beauty^, Drunk Monk Bar^^, Dimension 5, Wild Pack of ass cracks, Sweet leaf

* Tim playing a taylor acoustic he just got
^these songs were announced as being on the upcomming album
%First time played, dedicated to Ron and Lisa as this was the last gig where Ron will be single
**Life in the fast lane (eagles) tease
^^Enter the champions (circus theme) and Here comes the bride teases

Also, I was told that there was a hit the road jack tease during Doughboy, but I didnt hear it.

I\'ll check it in my sheet music book when I get home. I always counted it as 4/4. You could count it either way, but the rythmn is pretty driving on the off beat for 6/8. Either way, it wasnt 11/8.

Paul, believe me You are wrong about Cryptical and The Other One. Cryptical is the intro w/ the words"The other day they waited, the sky was dark and faided, solemly they stated, he has to die." Track listing is as follows: a)cryptical envelopment b)quodlibet for tenderfeet c)the faster we go the rounder we get d) we leave the castle The entire suite is called That\'s It For The Other One the reason for the 4 seperate parts was to get more $$$ from the record company and royalties. Cryptical was retired by GD in the early 80\'s and the other 3 parts came to be known together as The Other One. "Skipping through the lilly fields, I came across an empty space, rainbow spinned around and round left a bus stop in its place, the bus came by and I got on thats when it all began, it was cowboy neil at the wheel the bus to never-never land, commin, commin, comming around, commin, commin, comming around into a circle"
These were the lyrics jordan was singing, thus this was the song they played.
If these lyrics were sung the song sung WAS THE OTHER ONE NOT THE ELEVEN OR CRYPTICAL!!!!!

I wasn\'t there, so obviously, I don\'t know what they played, but if it had the words "Comming, comming, comming around, coming around..." it was The Other One.

I didn\'t think that Cryptical had any words...??

can\'t believe all this confusion...
i thinnnk some people may get confused if they have the "hundred year hall" discs cause on there it lists "the other one" as "cryptical envelopment"

I dunno if you can call my rendition an actual "song" but thanks for the note Steve..

Leith is correct. The Eleven was not played but usually tags the end of older St Stephens.

Cryptical usually predicated the Other One and i think almost always they go together.

Porter\'s was indeed just "That\'s it for the Other One" and extremely well done i might add. Jordan nailed it!

My two cents on Porters:

From strictly an energy standpoint, this was a peak show.  The guys looked rested, loose and happy to be there.  I enjoyed the first set immensely from first note to last and caught myself numerous times with the dopey grin for no reason reminiscent of so many Dead and PB shows of the past.  As good a single set as we are likely to get.  I completely related to Wolf\'s comment about "The Other One" in the 2nd set, feeling it coming, willing it out of tease and into full blown song.
