I: Space City Affair > Hard Luck Harry > See The Light*, jam > Cut Me Some Slack, Great Big Fiery Ball In The Sky, Superfly Phaddy Fat > Drum Solo > May Fly Disarray**
* inverted; end (original beginning) sung by the audience, as the band\'s PA overheated.
** with \'Stayin\' Alive\' (Bee Gees) teases.
Matt remained on stage after the show was over and played Madonna\'s \'Live To Tell\' quietly to close out the night.

thanks to melissa for being in the clutch and driving to the show, thanks to the band for a fun evening. it was my first time seeing the 4piece and i am excited for more. highlights- hard luck was a great and strong opener, see the light was fun as always, and mayfly was nutty! it was fantastic seeing everyone, see you all at the freakout(s)
-
wow that see the light is freaky/funky!
No shock to me the PA overheated :wah:

Tim was out of control last night.

Whew! Can\'t wait to hear that beautiful, crazy build during the STL jam, silly, just silly. I bet the mic\'s going out pissed you off at 1st Dave, it annoyed me, but us all singing more than made up for it. Good "excuse" to play Cut Me Some Slack, haven\'t seen it probably since the Middle East Show, ya know where we refused to leave, and that was a WHILE ago, I doubt they wouldv\'e played it if not for the sound issue. Unless of course it was on the list. I\'m still not all that excited to see GBFB, um cuz I don\'t like it, but Adrian seemed to be like, "ok time to rip," and it was instantly great. Superfly was out fo conrtol, Matt tore it up, he actually looked like he was getting cues from Ron and watching the chords and just learing it right there, I don\'t understand how anyone can do that. The drum solo actually seemed to have a rhythm to it, which it always should but doesn\'t ever really seem to. I was hoping for maybe a Grand Scheme after it, but it didn\'t feel like it would happen. That\'s fine. The Mayfly once again proved to me how absolutely amazing these guys are. Everyone\'s playing was at the top of their potential (for now) as far as I\'m concerned. Matt was out of control. Tim was a nut. Adrain and Ron just killed it. I mumbled something to Jen as it was starting and that it was gonna be RRREEEEAAALLLY good, I had no idea that it would be that good though. I can\'t say enough. Some truly fantastic playing that was better than anything I\'ve seen in a really long time. I cannot wait to hear this one!
So, I think the guy who wouldn\'t stop blowing his little party favor noise maker thing made this "special" coffee cake, and it had been so long since eating food with something in it, I forgot how hard it could hit. My god. I actually had trouble sleeping. I was supposed to get up early to go out with Jen at like um...10 or something....sorry. Christ.....

^^
Special cake has the opposite effect on me apparently. I was playing Russian Roulette with my eyelids the whole drive home!
-
Just listened to the STL and I just got to say WAY TO STEP UP ON THE VOCALS PEOPLE!
That was awesome to hear.
-
I had so much fun last night!!! I\'m glad to have tomorrow off from work - I\'ll definitely need the recovery time
It was nice to see Osiris filled with such a great crowd & awesome music :awwyeah:
Hubinger Street and the George Lesiw band were also incredible (mind=blown re: Preston & his "new" antique bass!)

i enjoyed that a lot last night..
kind of a weird show. not the best breakfast show that i have seen, but a fun one. see the light was the definitely the highlight for me. singing/watching people sing the lyrics was pretty amusing. tim got a little scary during mayfly. maybe it was the cake.
-
it\'s unfortunate that this show was unable to reach its potential, because what we got was a blast.
the guys came out on fire, with a fantastic HLH > STL. the reggae breakdown was great. everyone i looked at in the beginning just nodded their head in confirmation like, "yep. this is gonna be a good one!".
the vocals cutting out during STL was actually fun, and we did a helluva job picking up the pieces. but the show took a bit of a turn once it was realized that it wouldn\'t be fixed, including playing a couple of songs that matt probably wasn\'t *quite* ready for. that said, it was great to hear both CMSS and SPF. GBFBITS i felt was a bit mediocre, although like brandon, i don\'t really like the tune to begin with.
i did think that they\'d use this mostly-instrumental opportunity to finish the scheme from the other night, but that didn\'t happen.
MFD was where it was at. dance party. excellent version. great way to end it.
as i said, it probably would have been mind-blowing to see this show at its full potential, however, i do believe that we got 110% from the band given the conditions.

Yep definitely a fun night out.
The sound issues seemed to plague most of the show though. In particular Tim seemed distracted by it all, but apparently took several moments to repeatedly find that Zen place. I think the show suffered because of it musically, but the crowd singing the end of See The Light showed how , shit happens, but we\'re still gonna have a great time!
GBFBITS.... ohh , it could have been soooo much more, but alas this was the height of sound-related distraction.
I felt like the show totally made a comeback to SERness by the time Mayfly came around. But then WTF, that was the last song?? I was ready for another set.... and that cake was just starting to kick in hard lol
Well I\'m looking forward to Iron Horse because I know at least they have solid sound equipment that won\'t crap out.
The HIGHLIGHT of the night for me was Preston totally ripping that double-bass.

The HLH->See The Light was really really goo, with ALOT of textured layering. Obviously the aforementioned reggae-ish breakdown was a higpoint of the show. It is too bad about the problems, because it really did lose alot of people when it was realized that the problems were serious and prob wouldn\'t be fixed all that quick..It was great to see the guys soldier on like true professionals, but at the same time it started to get a little painful to watch. You just feel so bad for the guys when there is just nothing working.
Nothing really peaked my interest until Ad\'s solo, he really brought the heat. The MayFly saw the return to the level of improv/playing that the HLH->STL had achieved, nice way to close the night. I had a great time and that cake was GOOD!
Def not enjoying the fact that I stoppped and got a Big Mac extra value meal LARGE size AND a 10 pc nugget at 3am...eeewwww!
-
Jesus how big was this cake? Maybe the speakers got into it and couldn\'t hang...

There were like 4 batches. We threw a nice little party last night...thanks for the huge turnout again. PB = Ownage. Maddog Murphy = greatest bassist I\'ve ever seen.
Rock.

Am I the only one who did not eat cake?
WTF?
I don\'t even think I was at the same show.
Can anyone confirm I was there?

The energy level in Osiris cafe was electric as the Breakfast got on stage. It was like everyone KNEW it was gonna be a big night. Hardluck was amaaaazing, and jamming into See The Light made me believe with all my heart that I was gonna finish the night with drool on my shirt and feces in my pants.
Unfortunately, a pooped out system saved my wardrobe.
If the crowd singing the words to STL was the only sound problem of the night it would have been a classic moment in an amazing show... but having to watch Tim fuddle with all his pedals to figure out what the hell was goin on at the beginning of GBFBITS was frustrating for both peformer and audience alike. Fortunately, it probably will not sound as bad on disk as it felt for me standing there, realizing the band was frustrated and tryin to figure out their shit, and not being able to just play how they wanted to play. Get ready for a unique opening jam to Fiery ball, first time listeners.
Personally, I was hoping they would just say, "Fuck it, no vocals for the rest of the night, we\'re just gonna rage through all the instrumentals we know...." and then pounce through eppy 1, spunk, coma, and a monster scheme... but apparently the band didn\'t feel the same way. Cut me some slack was cool, but not mind blowing, superfly was cooler and, tho rough around the edges, had a sweet jam that got the crowd movin. And Mayfly was wacky and bad ass at different times...
All in all, a good night - a little frustration band-aided by some sweet jams (highlighted by hardluck, imo) and some heady cake.

Matt def not ready for CMSS or Super-fly, but considering he was taking cues from Ron as he was playing it, it wasn\'t bad at all. Cut HIM some slack. Christ. I\'m one to talk.....
-
Am I the only one who did not eat cake?
You and Robyn from my guess. Even Ken had some
 It was soooo good!

Haha Listening to the CMSS you can totally hear where Matt misses a few changes but it didn\'t suck right?
It reminds me bigtime of when Bruce joined the Dead and those first few shows were completely filled with moments just like that CMSS.
It was awesome to see how Jer would look at Bruce like"well you missed that but let\'s see where we go and watch me for it again".
Now having only listened to it and not being there I think Matt caught on pretty quick for on the fly. Matt is ready for anything this band has,we may not be ready for what comes out but he\'s ready. I\'m positive of that.
-
That\'s the point I was trying to get across. His talent and enthusiasm alone can get him by, once he learns the chords and changes, the sky\'s the fuckin\' limit.
-
they\'ve got two weeks before the freakout, i\'m guessing we are in for a treat!!!!!

 It was soooo good!
:that: you could taste the headiness right away.
