@ THE SOUND
There is a sound and I can’t sit still
It is coming far away across the hills
I try to get there but it’s taking too long
Maybe I came on much too strong
When it comes to dreams nothing is too far out of reach
I had my doubts however I am beginning to see the light
I’m feeling confident in the sound that I hear tonight
Times are tough ahead - gotta make the best with what you’re dealt
These are days that matter - to show us what the future holds
What we do is what we know - and thankful we should be
I can’t wait to feel - this new music coming over me
People are gathering around to sing our songs
The sound reverberates through the halls
Believe it or not say what you will
People of * need their fill

The Sound: I like this song a lot and it has potential to be a cool dead-esque slate for extented jams. I dont really like the vocals in the chorus (or bridge, not really sure what it is) where they are echoing each other. I think that could be reworked. Anything in 6 or 7 usually excites me (the verses in this song are in 6).
-
I am digging this song for sure... I like all the chord changes and I think the vocals sound very tight. Not too complex of a song or anything with a *wow* factor, but it is very catchy and pleasing... a good song to throw in the middle of a setlist
-
Didn\'t Adrian write this song?

agreed. I really like the laid-back style of this song... pretty chill, & lots of room for growth!
-
very catchy! stuck in my head a for a few days on more than one occasion. I heard animal has a few more new tunes waiting to be busted out. Really looking forward to those. I think this is the lightest of the bunch and the others or at least some of them are gonna be throwback rufus style epicness.
-
i posted in the collective new song thread so i\'ll post what i said about this song in there.
the chorus in this song sounds really close to the chorus in the moe. song \'bring you down\'. i do like hte song though. i just dont care for hte chorus much. not so much so that its like BYD, just dont care for it.

This song is awesome for me because it has some killer lyrics and it has that jammy feel like the middle of Gravity but all the way through.
It can be the perfect song to hook newer fans with for the simple fact that it has Tim really laying down some sweet riffs and lines w/o being so note heavy and ripping fast.
I must say this is the type of song I have been longing to see develop in this band and I really could not be happier that they are finally surfacing.
-
i like \'the sound\' of it
-
sidenote, does anyone know if/when tim plans on busting out some new tunes of his own?
-
a couple weeks ago he said he hasn\'t mad much time to write songs lately. but id be happy with more matt oesteicher tunes. and im sure chris has some stuff that will eventually be ready for the breakfast to play.

wait, they have this studio recorded already?
-
Its A Demo... They Played It During One Of Their Radio Interviews... Theres A Thread Somewhere On .info About It
-
I love this song. It just makes me feel good. The jam has the potential to go to some great places. Slick, sinewy, popping. When was the last time it was played? Does Jordo know this one? I just can\'t sit still!
Deffly dig the studio version. They need to do a new one with da Branch on the boards.
-
Yea this song definitely rules. I\'m not saying it should be a staple, but it should def be off the shelf.
-
haha I was thinking about this song last week while contemplating the newer songs and ones that were new and then got dropped due to personnel change. If Reel Time can make a comeback and Synergy can be played as often as it is. Why not The Sound?
This song begs to have Jordan on keys. It is so Deadlike anyway may as well throw the hippie on it.
-
i dont feel like diggin in the archives, i could have sworn its been played since jordan returned... or my sense of time is just completely distorted. either way... its a great tune and i love to see it more often than it has been in the rotation as of late.
-
I am super glad to hear Reel Time again. But yeah, The Sound is almost a companion piece to that.
I have a feeling we will be hearing it again. Perhaps I\'ll pester the band.. I mean, why not ;)
-
Love this song and miss it lots.
-
as far as songs that haven\'t been played in a long time go, this is low on the list of songs i\'d like to see return. i\'d much rather a love lake or a future peek.
-
^^
Yes to both of those, big time. Splashhhhh!
-
Love Lake would be awesome but doesn\'t have the ser jam possibilities of the Sound. At least the guys haven\'t really tried to open that one up. Future Peek needs to come out and play fer shur!
It would be epic if the whole catalog was open for business. I undertand shelving certain tunes but for the most part they should all be possibilities. Still, I never know what they\'re going to do so you never know. They keep us guessing and I keep on listening!

future peak #1
no glove #2
The Message #3 :duck:
-
no arguments here, i\'ll be the first one to cheer for a no glove comeback. overplayed and corny as it may have been, its a psychedelic breakfast staple.
-
They totally should bring back NG, NL. But please let the Message never see the light of day again. But thats just me
But back to the Sound, please bring it back. Breakfest? Oh, and Heather while you\'re at it!
-
gotta bring back no glove...my breakfast fan-dom will never be complete until they bring back this at least once.

Your own Destiny Unbound huh?
-
This song rocks. When was last time played?
-
The last one I could find was on 12/31/09. I found it on 4 shows in \'09, and none in \'10.
Just listened to a nice one: 2/8/08, Sound > Spunk
-
The 12/31 version is great. Its hard to tell why it was shelved after this performance. I was in danger of losing my shit so early in the morning after the exploratory Doughboy opener and the shredding version of Lit, but the Sound brought me back to more earthy realms very nicely. Sylvia, now Shotgun(debut), this was an exceptional show!
