Title: The ONE and ONLY Site Upgrade Bugs & Issues Thread
Post by: davepeck on February 21, 2005, 06:33:55 pm
post em here.. this is a work in progress, so if you come across anything that doesn\'t look quite right, please let us know here!

some things that currently need to be addressed:

- getting \'supporting member\' status back (in posts).
- changing the user field in posts back to the way it was.
- center thebreakfast.info logo.

Might be going mad, but was the breakfast.info logo at the top centred before?? If so, is this an aesthetic move or has it slipped through?

Site looks good though dave! :)

Does this include the facility for sending a pm to the poster via a single click? I see the icon for AIM, but no pm.

so if you wanna search all of \'breakfast babble\', you can just highlight that and check \'search in child forums\'.. likewise, check the box and highlight \'food for thought\' and it\'ll search in \'side dishes\' as well..

search engines (google, yahoo, msn, lycos, etc.) have \'bots\', or \'spiders\' that go through all the pages of a website to collect content for their search indexes.. that\'s what the google spider is. :)

i\'m trying to think of a reason to allow attachments in posts, but i can\'t really think of anything. will probably keep it on a \'use your own host\' basis, unless someone can give me a really good reason to allow attachments.. external links are better because attachments put more strain on the server..

this is part of the reason why i added the imageshack functionality to the site - so that people could easily host and link to their own pics in threads.. and with torrent files, why not just provide a direct link (along with the link to the torrent page):

timmy torrent - click here to download (http://bt.etree.org/download.php/11776/timmyp2005-02-16.flac16.torrent)

im not sure if anyone else has the problem, but a lot of the time bt.etree.org runs slow for me and takes 20 mins of refreshing to actually get on the site so i can view the page for the torrent, that is if it loads at all. If the torrent file is attached and bt.etree.org won\'t load then people can just download the torrent file quickly and start downloading, so i have been attaching torrent files to the threads for the last month or two whenever i remember to. im not sure if a link straight to the torrent file would work in that situatuation, because if the site doesnt load ive never had access directly to the torrent file.

Hey Dave I\'ve noticed that if you sign in from the Front page it sends you to a limbo page w/ a msg saying something abt a vbportal needing to be put there or some such. The forum link is still there so you can still get to forums it just seems like an xtra step not needed.

Also is there a way to have an  all posts/forums read button on the page that has the new posts? as it is now u have to go back to the forum page and hit the button on the bottom of the forums. Just wondering.

Also noted if you hit thebreakfast.info button on the top row, you get sent to the same limbo page.

Meh.

how many times do we need to go over this?

If Peck wanted money, he would make this a membership/fee based site....

I click on sponsored links....so there.

easy, steve.. and please don\'t speak for me. not too sure why you\'re brushing off someone for trying to get more people to become supporting members either.. if you choose not to, that\'s fine, but...

i think the statement should be more like:

If Peck wanted to be a dick, he would make this a membership/fee based site....

the fact is that this site has cost me money out of my own pocket since day one. and even more than that, my time. some people take notice of this, and show their appreciation by helping out a little bit, and i\'m very thankful for that.

this site was never put here for me. it\'s for everyone else, from me. seeing some appreciation has kept me going on days when i didn\'t want to do it anymore; on days where i\'m spending 80% of my work day working on getting the site upgraded, and having to worry about babysitting posts because people can\'t NOT fight with each other..

these supporting members mean a LOT to me. and to show my thanks to them, as the site upgrade continues, they will begin to see some new features that others will not - such as a chat room, google ad-free surfing, instant messaging right on the forum, and more.. more details to come..

but um.. yeah.. if people want to donate, and try to get other people to do the same, there\'s really no reason for a response if you don\'t want to donate. it\'s fine. just let it be.

that was my weak attempt at throwin gas on a fire.....

one day I will make the biggest donation ever to this board, but until then I dont need people telling me to cough up money.

Where are these people when we\'re runnin a 12 person tab at the bar and then all of a sudden the end of the night comes and nobody knows anything?

I didnt mean to speak for you, but it is well well documented that this site is a burdon of time and finance on you Peck, and I also believe that it is MORE than appreciated...

didnt mean to ruffle feathers that badly....

hey dave, I got one - using netscape, ever since the site came back up:

I have the main site (not the forum) as my link. Every time I come, it makes me log in. Then, if I click on the forum link on the left sidebar, it makes me log in again before going to the forums.

but

if I click on the forum link across the top of the main page, it brings me straight in.

hope your feelin better today. later

i\'m thinkin it\'s gotta be something on your end, cause if you hover over the 2 links and look at the 2 urls, they\'re identical (i thought maybe i\'d fixed it for you, because the top bar url had a trailing \'?\' and the side did not, so i added a \'?\' to the side url)..

andy - i thought about this a bit, and i don\'t think it would be possible, without you getting emails every time someone replies to a thread in score.. even then, i\'m not sure if it would be something that can be done..

as an alternative, i\'ve decided to give Score some front page presence, as some people have requested before. i\'m going to be making a sub-forum in Score for grovels, and the main Score forum will be just for announcements of newly available downloads, b&ps, etc. on the top-right of the home page, you\'ll see the 5 most recent threads from the main Score forum.

i\'ll have this done by tomorrow..

I am having a major problem with the View New Post button....just not workin....is it my computer?

the site was down a good portion of the day yesterday, as many of you noticed.. during this time, the Search table became corrupt. i had to rebuild all the Search Indexes this morning. everything should be fine now.

whatever happened to the multiple quote check box thing?

there was never a \'decent\' one made for vb3 like the one we had when we were on vb2 (the check boxes on each post).. i did, however, just add a new feature which will auto-merge consecutive posts into one, which kind of accomplishes the same thing (this post being a prime example).

It was fine on yesterday for me, don\'t know what happened, maybe I am an hour off, which wouldnt be good cos that means I showed up for work an hour late, heh. It is 1:10pm EST right now correct?

Edit: Cos after I posted it says 12:10pm. I\'ll go look into the time zone selection though.

Edit two: I\'m set for -5:00 GMT Eastern US and Canada. . . weird. . .

Dave,

The setlist link to .org is not working properly. I hit it and it goes to an error page. Maybe, because they switched it back to .net? Just thought I\'d let you know.

Dave-

I\'ve been trying to recreate teh gallery "error" that I have gotten in the past and I can\'t give you a 100% answer yet.

Mostly been getting it while running a wacked/tweaked out version of Mozilla and toying with the live Http headers so I am probably the one to blame but still I will keep you posted as I think that Vbulletin might not be up to speed on a few things.

:::"Zips it" and goes back to work:::

Once again, great job making this place what it is.

Théo aka GoClic.

P.S. I get taken to http://www.thebreakfast.info/photopost/ and asked to log back in when I try to go to the gallery and after that I get taken to http://www.thebreakfast.info/photopost/login.php and it says

that\'s because html code is enabled, and it reads the < as the opening of an html tag.
