Wow! Great bust-outs. Happy New Year everyone!
-
wow. thats a vintage PB setlist. officially disappointed i couldn\'t make it, for the asscracks alone. can i get a rough estimate on the attendence?
-
I\'m not good with numbers, but it was pretty full, at least on the 21+ side for most of the show. The under side was lighter but they were getting down!
Every show gets better and better, make it point to go to a show soon!
Sleep.......
-
I love 2009! Love to all the B-fam :)
-
I\'m gonna say 350-400 on the attendance.
Never thought I\'d hear Sundance. Not after it was on the NYC list.
Great times. Even though I missed Terrapin.
-
the 3rd sundance in four shows was the best of the three, especially how they seemed to be unaware of the fact that the countdown was begining. going into auld lang syne and echidna\'s made for a wonderful sandwich. fatty boom baddy?!?! really?!?!? wow. rufus was fuckin\' amazing. pitch, good call like for superfly like 30 secs into the jam. great and surprising to hear that monster. ep 1 has to have been the absolute best one ever, the intensity that they played it with, the placement of it, how it was received, the way adrian took over at the end. just perfect. haven\'t heard an overexposure quite this good. thanks to chris fitz for requesting terrapin for the field show, i don\'t know why they chose to play it tonight, who cares cuz it was fuckin\' huge. can\'t recall a mayfly ever being that good, seriously, or for that matter, ever seeing or being involved in a uh, "mosh-pit" for this song. whatever the case it was incredible. wildpack was so good and so appropriate considering how great the show was up to that point. the "pit" for mayfly seemed to only be a warm up for the one in wild pack. the funniest part of that was when i was punched in the side of the face by galenas, i guess that\'s how they say happy new year in new york, ;). i clearly saw you wind up before throwing the punch, btw, i did the exact same thing to kara at a sully\'s show once, hey, sometimes these things happen and for some reason, it\'s always funny.
what a great time. sad to see upstate go. sad to see gencs\' job coming to and end. if i had to judge the last four shows based on the time i had, i would go with this one as being the best, i guess i\'ll have to hear it to decide once and for all.
happy new year!
-
fatty boom baddy?!?! really?!?!? wow.
:sigh:
moving on, some memorable quotes from last night:
"this is the blood of buquebus" - ds# holding up a bottle of whiskey
"Tim, can I have some of your whiskey?" - Lauren
"Hey, this is a tapers room! Get the hell out!" - me to chris dangleduce
"ah! um, FLAC! MP3! UNCOMPRESS!" - Chris\' response
"$10 cover" - BAR doorman
"Yes!; this is my first episode one!" - ds# (damn, I feel old)
"Where the hell are all the cabs? It\'s so damn cold out, I\'m going to put a sign around my neck that says \'Tonya is responsible for my death\' " - ds#
"suck my dick" - Alli rotfl
-
I MISSED ECHIDNA\'S ARF, PHATTY, GRAVITY, RUFUS?!?!?!
SON OF A BITCH!
AND MAYFLY!!!!!!!!
at least I was there for the last mayfly last year... (sniffle) :hair:
edit: Dave, you did tape this one, right?!
-
the funniest part of that was when i was punched in the side of the face by galenas, i guess that\'s how they say happy new year in new york, ;). i clearly saw you wind up before throwing the punch, btw, i did the exact same thing to kara at a sully\'s show once, hey, sometimes these things happen and for some reason, it\'s always funny.
 ahhh.... tooo funny. (and sorry \'bout that!)
no better way to start the new year.
i pretty much went nuts when they started playing may fly b/c i really wasn\'t expecting it at that point in the set. followed by wild pack? nothing short of ser bizz. god i love the bfam mosh pit more than just about anything in the world.
great show, mostly i think for the song selection as opposed to the level of playing, imo. not that the playing was bad, don\'t get me wrong. it just wasn\'t ser face ownage level, which is fine considering the vibe on nye is all about the party anyways.
so deeply sad to say goodbye to mr. ellis....
-
rumor has it 450paid with 100 on the guestlist.
best.rufus.ever.
they should have never left the stage after what they threw down at the end of that song.unfuckingreal night on all counts.

Here\'s one of my personal favorite shots I captured last night. It was too good for me just to let sit on my computer without anyone else every getting to see it. Enjoy!
-
couldnt possibly ask for a better night..
-
My girlfriend took this picture... if you cropped it up I think it would be a badass CD cover for this show. Jordan\'s setlist blew of his keyboard before the beginning of the set like right in front of her. She\'s like "look at this!" I looked at it and realized he would probably be needing that so I took tried to get his attention and then shoved it underneath his organ... He grabbed it with his footand had to crank his head around because it was upside down for him to read. Anyways... there\'s the story behind the shot. (Sorry its a bit big, I tried to resize it but it got wicked distorted).
-
1st set was straight fire.
2nd set was kinda confusing at times I felt like Dangle was fuckin with the band at points esp Mayfly and shitt.
Sundance from Mill St was better but who cares ;)
Def a great time and i\'m with Gavin def best show I\'ve seen at Toads.
According to Ashley... "We HAVE to see more Breakfast shows!" ... lol I though we did :D
ELLIS dude you mindfucked me with those light last night in the Grav+Rufus . I\'m gonna miss you m8.
Phaddy was f-in ripped y\'all noticed I\'m sure. Alright time to end this disjointed post. I can\'t wait for Iron Horse > Sullys > Tammany.
Adrian I just gotta say guy.. sickness :disco:
and Timinator dude... duude... your guitarage is inspirational soul lifting moreso now than ever. Thank you Sequoia that Leslie swirling organ is the sweetest of sonic brain invasions. Bringin back the Dead too its awesome. And thank you ChrisDangle for being one insane dude!

Great show last night. If anybody saw me take the header during Wild Pack that resulted in fucking up my knee, please fill me in on the details.
-
Missed you all so much last night. Getting to work today at 6:30, 3 degrees, negative-something windchill, bleh. But I\'m glad it was a magical night, and I hope to see you soon! I hope 2009 brings you what you\'re hoping for.
Edit- too much wine, can\'t type a thought from beginning to end. Apologies.

DOWNLOAD THIS SHOW! (http://thebreakfast.info/forum/showthread.php?goto=newpost&t=13632)
Thanks Chris for the 12 hourish turn around time!
-
Man o man, that was fun.
Had to be the biggest crowd at Toads since the 1000th show, and that was probably the biggest crowd I\'ve ever seen the Breakfast pull. (not talkin about festivals.)
Shakedown was fun, they set a great mood to get the night goin.
I thought the Chase was a perfect choice for an opener- people were groovin right off the bat... somehow I didn\'t recognize the pre-Sundance jam as the "pre-Sundance jam" and was quite surprised to have it played so early in the show- talk about sendin a message! The new years countdown did seem to catch the band off guard for a split sec (was that chadwick gettin all up on the mic??!?) but I thought it actually played out really well, and the balloon drop was wiiiicked cool!!
So the kindafreakybutincrediblyawesome moment of the night was when they busted into Echidna\'s as the first tune of 2009. Me, Face, Sallyalli, hollymamalakabudaya, and Snake-ub were raging that tune the whole time we were chillin pre-show. And when I say raging I mean every 30 seconds one of us was singing, humming, whistling, or farting the melody to that tune. I don\'t know why. Probably because Face wishes he was Zappa\'s manwhore. We raged that tune at the hotel. We raged it in the car. At Bar. On the streets of New Haven. We were harmonizing like Boyz II Men(pre-trio). It was stupid and crazy and goofy and annoying and lame and fun and awesome all at the same time. Somehow it made it just a supremely special moment to start \'09. Thank you, Breakfast.
Whew.
After that- "Phaddy is an interesting choice," I thought at first. I\'ve never loved PBB, but boy the jam in that tune was fun!! Dangledoozer had some kinda bounce going that really changed the sound from what I remember it being (definitely different than Deuce version) and I specifically remember seeing JimCobb and Cheshire Mark during that jam having that kinda shocked look, like "What the hell is goin on here?!?"... In the good way.
To keep this post from being 3 years long I will just say that Gravity and Rufus were both top notch. The things that happened musically during Rufus are not legal in 36 states.
The bustout of Superfly was a really superb version- it felt like it had some type of previously untapped power to it- where as in the past I felt it was more of a chill song. Ep 1 I do not remember being as epic as previous posters have stated, but it was very nice to hear it again, at any rate- and the part where adrian takes over was quite noteworthy.
The rest of the show becomes quite a blur in my mind- everything just felt so good in that room (and I\'m not talkin about bd\'sfreetuna). Overexposure was danceparty fun, Terrapin had that chill type of epic-ness to it, and Mayfly just brought the funk for the true hod-caws left in the room. Wildpack literally dislocated DrewKingsley\'s kneecap. incredible. Drew, I didn\'t see it happen, but I certainly noticed your painful limp in the aftermath- ouch. You sucked it up like a champ. It brought back visions of TaintFace when Tahd the Tickla broke his foot at Sullivan Hall in NYC.
I was totally satisfied with not getting an encore. I couldn\'t have possibly taken anymore. There wouldn\'t have been a better peak than that Wildpack.
Good luck in \'09, asscracks.
-
::: Ditto :::
-
hod-caws?:hscratch:
-
that\'s "hard-core\'s".
with a rhode island accent.
-
i see.
-
how\'d you like my attempt at a ren-like review?
-
it was great. sometimes ya gotta do what\'s called for. overall when i read your review, i liked it. the way you opened it was strong with well formed story about why it meant so much to you guys when they played echidna\'s...
i can\'t keep this up anymore.
:deadhorse
-
I also enjoyed it. Peaches, you really added a certain "je ne sais quoi" to the review process, from your pride in farting to the tune of Echidnas, to your unique spelling of Tahd the tickla. In other news, I call shenanigans on ##s for not posting a review by now..
-
i really love all you asscracks.
-
i know i gotta do one ive just been really busy/tired...by the end of today expect a 3000+ word count review in scientific journal format, complete with abstract.
-
don\'t forget proper citations!
-
anyone have any epic pictures from the night that they could shar, especially ones of the crowd/balloons dropping/moshpit?
-
All I can say about this night is:
all-time versions of Gravity and Over Exposure
Jordan\'s solo during Phaddy, Adrian\'s solo in Episode 1, and the whole bass and drum deal before Over Exposure were ridiculous
ser mosh pit during May Fly and Wild Pack
one of the best bands and group of friends that a person could possibly stumble upon
it unquestionably won\'t be the same without Mr. Gregory Ellis
and
I love you all
-
i really love all you asscracks.
-
i lost myself during the gravity jam. totally forgot what song they were in until they came back to it. wasn\'t even stoned. love when that happens.
-
^^
Gravity was sick. Hah you just reminded me I was on a ser setbreak mission.... got \'er done thanks gavin you saved the day :D And by "the day" I mean much needed activation of THC and CB1 receptors. Phaddy Boom Baddy timing was perfect!! Not to mention possibly the most raged version I\'ve ever witnessed
-
i really love all your asscracks.
:wah:
-
as an admin, you should know it is unethical to change someone\'s quote when his or her name is still attributed to it....
-
I love lamp
Yeah Paul. Jerk move!!
-
nah, it was just a quote. If I wanted to be a jerk I would have just changed what you wrote in YOUR post. But as someone we all know and love would say if I had done that,
Now THAT\'s dick.
love you diana.
-
What an amazing show! I became paralyzed during Gravity for a while! I couldn\'t believe what was going on in front of me!! Holy shit!! I\'m looking forward to what 2009 will bring. Thank you The Breakfast!!
-
lol, it\'s all good. i\'m just bustin on ya. hope to see some of you tonight, perhaps.
-
Another wonderful New Year\'s with The Breakfast! =)
Incredible music, incredible people...It makes me smile just thinking about it.
I love you all. xo to the b\'fam. Happy 2009. I hope to see you all soon. <3

Isn\'t the proper notation:
Lady With a Fan>Terrapin Station?
Since the two techincally can be played sperately.
-
i think your corect sir.
-
Isn\'t the proper notation:
Lady With a Fan>Terrapin Station?
Since the two techincally can be played sperately.
Not the biggest Deadhead, so correct me if I\'m wrong, but wasn\'t what was played on NYE pretty much the song "Terrapin Station" as it appears on the Dead album from 1977.
If we wanted to get technical, we could call also note it as "Lady With a Fan > Terrapin Station > Terrapin > Terrapin Transit > At a Siding > Terrapin Flyer > Refrain". But then we just be venturing from accurate to ridiculous.
-
so it was Lady With a Fan> Terrapin Station> Mayfly Disarray> Ahoy!?
-

as per usual.

I am not the most musically talented person, however, you can seperate Lady with a Fan and Terrapin Station by lyrics.
Also, as for the full "Terrapin Suite," At the Siding and Refrain were not played, since those also have their own lyrics.
Lady with a Fan:
Let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm
That will not forsake me, till my tale is told and done
While the fire lights aglow, strange shadows from the flames will grow
Till things we\'ve never seen will seem familiar
Shadows of a sailor forming winds both foul and fair, all swarm
Down in Carlisle he loved a lady many years ago
Here beside him stands a man, a soldier by the looks of him,
Who came through many fights, but lost at love
While the story teller speaks, a door within the fire creaks,
Suddenly flies open, and a girl is standing there
Eyes alight, with glowing hair, all that fancy paints as fair
She takes her fan and throws it in the lion\'s den
Which of you to gain me, tell, will risk uncertain pains of hell?
I will not forgive you if you will not take the chance
The sailor gave at least a try; the soldier, being much too wise,
Strategy was his strength, and not disaster
The sailor, coming out again, the lady fairly leapt at him
That\'s how it stands today. You decide if he was wise
The story teller makes no choice, soon you will not hear his voice
His job is to shed light, and not to master
Since the end is never told we paid the teller off in gold
In hopes he will come back, but he cannot be bought or sold
Terrapin Station:
Inspiration, move me brightly
Light the song with sense of colour
Hold away despair
More than this I will not ask
Faced with mysteries dark and vast
Statements just seem vain at last
Some rise, some fall, some climb
To get to Terrapin
Counting stars by candlelight
All are dim but one is bright
The spiral light on Venus
Rising first and shining best
Oh, from the north-west corner
Of a brand new crescent moon
Where crickets and cicadas sing
A rare and different tune
Terrapin Station
In the shadow of the moon
Terrapin Station
And I know we\'ll be there soon
(Terrapin)
I can\'t figure out
(Terrapin)
If it\'s the end or beginning
(Terrapin)
But the train\'s put it brakes on
(Terrapin)
And the whistle is screaming
Terrapin
-
ooooooook.
-
so it was Lady With a Fan> Terrapin Station> Mayfly Disarray> Ahoy!?
All that I can say is... It wasn\'t me who said it!
-
so it was Lady With a Fan> Terrapin Station> Mayfly Disarray> Ahoy!?
All that I can say is... It wasn\'t me who said it!
I think it has to do with how the songs were published.
Did The Breakfast ever publish "Ahoy!"?
-
No... It was played once on it\'s own... The second time it was played after the premier of May Fly... After that it because part of May Fly... That\'s right, I said it... I just like it on it\'s own...
-
ahoy was writen as its own song,at first.so technicaly......
-
Thank you Adrian... After all this time, someone from the band has substantiated my Ahoy! thing. My quest can be layed to rest.
-
gota say ryan, even though you are a jackass you do know your breakfast history.
-
I remember it vividly. Justin was painting the brain on the tapestry that Nicki sewed for the No Glove No Love video and we were listening to Black 47 and he told me that you guys wrote this song that had a sort of Irish Sailing feel to it. You guys played it at Taboo Club and I think that was also the first time you played Taboo or Not Taboo.
-
ahoy was writen as its own song,at first.so technicaly......
yea but didn\'t you guys rip off some pirates or something to come up with that song
so technically...
-
yeah,jack sparrow.
-
i\'ve been listening to this show in pieces and so far Gravity is my personal highlight. that jam is like butter in the microwave.
-
i that jam is like butter in the microwave.
mmmm m mmm. extra salt, brah
-
I remember 1st Mayfly I heard.. the ahoy part came outta nowhere! Its like the icing on the most delicious of cakes, after you\'ve already eaten the cake and left most of the icing to save for last. F-in sweet.
Gravity 2nd half jam is the same way - like as if the song wasnt ser enough, here, have another slice

August 31st, 2000 Fire and Water Café Northampton, MA
I: Jazz Jam > Uncle Freddy > Wake Up in a Coma > See the Light > Peaches en Regalia,
Language of the Gods, Beef Barley > Lit
II: Mooboo’s Voodoo (Episode 2), May Fly Disarray
I\'m pretty sure the above was my first May Fly. My friend Mike Bonanno and I got permission from UMass to move onto campus early in order to attend this show. The Mooboo\'s was sick (spaced-out jam and searing guitar), my friend had it taped to his mini disk and I\'m pretty sure we were the only ones who ever had tapes of the show.
On second thought, there are a couple summer 2000 shows not on my list that I may have indeed been at. I remember Dave Peck coming over to me at one of the Providence shows to let me know about a cool new song on the night\'s setlist, Rufus. Looks like I need to re-audit my list.
-
I remember a blues cafe show where they did montana, and another where they did the first rufus with adrian singing because tim didn\'t know the lyrics yet. Rufus was middle to end of set one because I went to adrian at setbreak and told him I really liked the new reggae song and he told me all about how he had just written it. Can\'t find either of those shows in the setlists though.
-
then it looks like it never happened now doesn\'t it.
:pissed:

Paul - This is what I pulled together from your thoughts.
1. Montana show - From what I can gather, PB/TB only teased Montana. There were 11 Blues Cafe shows and some might be what you\'re talking about. 8/9/00 - Mystery Roach (1st time plated)... 9/21/00 - Willie The Pimp... 3/15/01 (http://www.archive.org/details/pb2001-03-15.flac16) - Willie The Pimp... 8/30/01 (http://www.archive.org/details/pb2001-08-30.flac16) - I\'m The Slime w/ Montana Teases... 11/27/01 - Magic Fingers...
2. Rufus show - 8/9/2000
Hope this helps...db

i was cleaning out my car today and i found a dvd i have of this show that i hadent yet watched....this show is fuckin epic, one of the best ive ever seen. the gravity>rufus is so face melting
