Title: Guitar Hero / Guitar Hero II / Guitar Hero III
Post by: Gordo on December 04, 2005, 10:05:03 pm
last night i went to some kids house with this girl i just started dating. they were playing this game "Guitar Hero" that was hands down the best idea for a video game ive ever seen. its like those Dance Dance Revolution games but you actually have a guitar with 5 buttons for different notes, its got a little tapper to play the rhythm, and even a whammy bar to play with notes you draw out. the choice of songs is fantastic with shit from Bowie, Hendrix, Sabbath........etc. amazing how precise the sound is with your playing too, you actually feel like you get going and are ripping a sick solo. highly recommend picking it up guys, im gonna buy one this week to up my video game ownership total to 2.

Yeah I have been wondering abt that game. Does the controller come w/ it or do u have to buy it seperately?
It has gotten great reviews and on the Jamband side of things The Slip has a song in the game.

shipping was 4.95, plus tax. still came out to under $70 for me. it was unavailable at all my local BBs for store pickup. YMMV.

The Slip do have a track on there. You have to buy it. It is Even Rats from the upcoming studio release. A friend of mine made this game actually. I have not yet played it. Sounds and lookds like fun though.

This is a great idea for a video game. Just in time for me to be get ready for this (http://www.airguitarusa.com/enter.html). I don\'t own a PS2 but I do know someone who owns one and wouldn\'t mind if I bought a game for it.

cleantone.....welcome to the board guy!
you are a pretty consistent slip taper right?  i think i\'ve got a couple of shows of theirs that you taped (assuming you are the cleantone i\'m thinking about).  You been into the bfast long? or just getting into them?  you going to Middle East show on the 23rd? cuz i know new/different tapers/rigs are always appreciated at the shows.

i think something hard-core is a must spacey. need the crazy energy if you want to survive. watched a couple videos and you should go the route of Strapping Young Lad, Dream Theater, Steve Vai, Malmsteen, etc...

our scene here wouldnt cut it.

well, last night it didn\'t take long for poker night to turn into Guitar Hero night.. the guitar got its cherry popped as soon as adrian went out of the first poker game, and it was a huge hit for the rest of the night.. we all gathered around the tv to have a go at it. this game is FUN!

here\'s some pics of the madness.. people make some funny faces playing this thing.. i can only imagine what i looked like. :D

i went to best buy to pick something up today, and saw a kid walking out with guitar hero under his arm.. i proceeded to go in side, trip, fall, and pick up another guitar hero.. whoops... so we\'ll be trying out that head to head thing tomorrow night.. :D

cant beat Bark At The Moon on extreme.. extremely frustrating after failing around 15 times today.

my goal is to get 5 stars on every song up until the last 4 on extreme.. not sure if ill ever have it in me to get 5 stars on Texas Flood, Frankenstein, Cowboys From Hell, Bark At The Moon.

still confident that this is the best game ever made.

dont you think Scheme is a bit long for the game? i was trying to narrow it down to shorter tunes.. Spunk would also be great.

Funny this thread should get bumped, I just saw and played the game for the first time yesterday at Best Buy.  Sweet concept!  As fun as it was, I gotta believe it would get boring watching the little dots come streaming down the screen over and over.  For my first song I got beat up pretty good by Crossroads on easy, but then inexplicably owned face on Frankenstein medium, finishing with a "You Rock!"

Breakfast song of choice would be Puppetry.

Rather than play all the original solos, there should be about 24 buttons on the thing representing 2 octaves of notes.  Your solo is judged based on how well you stay with in the chords, and building to crescendos, etc.

Great party game.  Move over monkey ball!

yea, that\'s different though, there\'s no need to make the guitar wireless except that you\'re a nerd and need something to do ;)

as for frogger, I used to own that game on atari when I was a wee-lad, now, well, yea, I suck. I did tear up the bowling game though after 4 mediocre games, one 10-pin short in the 9th frame of a perfect game. baseball stars on the other hand, no dice.

Guitar Hero to encore

Those of you tired of us banging on so much about Guitar Hero a month before you can even buy it in the UK (April 7th remember!) will be pleased to hear that we ought to be banging on about it for at least another couple of years, as Kelly Sumner, CEO of publisher RedOctane, has told MCV we\'ll see a further "five or six" titles by the middle of 2007.

"We are working on Guitar Hero 2, which will have 40-plus new tracks," Sumner told MCV. He also confirmed that genre spin-offs including Country Rock for the US and a Metal edition are on the cards. He even pointed to further possibilities for the peripheral, adding, "you could absolutely do a plug and play version".

The first edition of Guitar Hero, which is a PS2 exclusive at the moment, is largely rock and metal focused as you\'d expect, with everything from Bad Religion and Ozzy Osbourne to David Bowie, Queen and Queens of the Stone Age. Dunno why I picked those five, but I did.

And in case you\'ve not been keeping track at all, Guitar Hero is a game with a slightly scaled down Gibson guitar peripheral where you have to hold down frets and strum a bit of plastic that tilts up or down to simulate the string movement, all the while music plays and little prompts tell you when to strum, when to hold notes and so on. As you get better, you use up to five frets, and combinations become ridiculously troublesome. Having been going a bit mad on the US version, we\'re expecting it to be a big deal when it hits the UK next month for £50 including one guitar. Were you to have two of course, you could play together. Rocking.

New interview with John Tam (from RedOctane) about Guitar Hero 2 over at IGN... (http://ps2.ign.com/articles/701/701726p1.html).

The hightlights:
-  New multiplayer mode where one player plays the lead guitar part, with the other handling rythm/bass/etc.
-  Each player can select a different difficulty in multiplayer.
-  Practice mode where you\'ll be able to loop a particular section of a song.  No mention if you\'ll be able to slow it down, though.
-  They\'re aiming to have 40 licensed songs, up from 30 in the original.
-  The indie songs may be from more than just the in-house bands.  They\'ll also be running the Be A Guitar Hero contest again.
-  They\'ve been talking with some of the artists of the new licensed songs, and there have been a few mentions of using the master tracks from the songs, so there may be a few less covers this time around.

For Those About to Rock With Guitar Hero II, We Salute You! RedOctane Announces Fall US Tour Date
Sequel to Award-Winning Music Videogame to Be Unveiled at E3; Choose Your Weapon – Rhythm, Lead or Bass Guitar

- April 17, 2006 - Sunnyvale, CA

Get ready for a rock encore! RedOctane® announced today that Johnny Napalm and friends will begin touring the US again this Fall in the new videogame “Guitar Hero II™”. Picking up where Guitar Hero™ left off, Guitar Hero II arrives with a new track list, new venues and additional play modes – including the ability to transform the original Gibson SG Guitar Hero Controller into a rhythm, lead or bass guitar.

“Guitar Hero has proved phenomenally successful! Guitar Hero veterans will be able to plug in their Gibson SG Guitar Hero Controllers and rock GH II straight out of the box,” said Kelly Sumner, CEO of RedOctane. “We will really push the envelope with Guitar Hero II. Despite the fact there are many months until release, we’re already implementing exciting features and innovations. This fall we’re going to rock everyone’s world all over again.”

The top-secret sequel song list remains firmly in the rock domain, pulling from a mix of classic rock, ‘hair’ metal, heavy metal, modern rock, and alternative titles. More than 55 songs will be featured in the next installment.

Veteran music videogame developer Harmonix® Music Systems has been busy in-studio, enriching this rockstar experience with more features and multiplayer modes. In addition to the traditional head-to-head competition, Multiplayer Co-op Mode allows players to collaborate in order to beat songs, with each guitarist playing a separate guitar track. Available guitar tracks include lead, rhythm or bass tracks, depending upon the song. The Guitar Hero SG Controller used in the first installment will also be compatible with the new game.

Guitar Hero II is the follow-up to 2005’s award-winning release, “Guitar Hero,” which rocked the game industry and garnered a stack of awards including: “Best Offline Multiplayer Game 2005” and “Music Game of the Year 2005” from IGN.com, and “Best Soundtrack 2005” at the Spike TV Videogames Awards. Recently, it picked up five awards at the D.I.C.E. Summit\'s Interactive Achievement Awards including Outstanding Innovation in Gaming and Family Game of the Year.

RedOctane has confirmed an early glimpse of the upcoming game will be available during the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in Los Angeles next month.

The game that has inspired a nation of wannabe rock stars to achieve video game greatness is scheduled for a new US tour on the PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system in November 2006.

October 9, 2006 - After a year of wishlists, speculation and even a bit of "slipped" information, RedOctane has finally revealed to us the final licensed tracklist for Guitar Hero II. Totaling 40 tunes in all, spread over eight difficulty levels, the sequel to our Best Music Game of 2005 seems to have an even wider range of rock-oriented music than the first time out. From Guns N\' Roses to the Police to Dick Dale, Guitar Hero II runs the gamut of rock.

Without further ado, here are the tracks you\'ll be rocking out to come November 7th.

1. Opening Licks
Motley Crue - Shout at the Devil
Danzig - Mother
Cheap Trick - Surrender
Wolfmother - Woman
Spinal Tap - Tonight I\'m Gonna Rock You Tonight

2. Amp-Warmers
Kiss - Strutter
Nirvana - Heart-Shaped Box
Police - Message in a Bottle
Van Halen - You Really Got Me
Kansas - Carry on Wayward Son

3. String-Snappers
Foo Fighters - Monkey Wrench
Alice in Chains - Them Bones
Iggy Pop and the Stooges - Search and Destroy
Pretenders - Tattooed Love Boys
Black Sabbath - War Pigs

4. Thrash and Burn
Warrant - Cherry Pie
Butthole Surfers - Who Was in My Room Last Night
Mathew Sweet - Girlfriend
Rolling Stones - Can\'t You Hear Me Knockin\'
Guns N\' Roses - Sweet Child O\' Mine

5. Return of the Shred
Rage Against the Machine - Killing in the Name Of
Primus - John the Fisherman
Sword - Freya
Thin Lizzy - Bad Reputation
Aerosmtih - Last Child

6. Relentless Riffs
Heart - Crazy on You
Stone Temple Pilots - Tripping on a Hole in a Paper Heart
Stray Cats - Rock This Town
Allman Brothers - Jessica
Jane\'s Addiction - Stop

7. Furious Fretwork
Anthrax - Madhouse
Living End - Carry Me Home
Lamb of God - Laid to Rest
Reverend Horton Heat - Psychobilly Freakout
Rush - YYZ

8. Face-Melters
Avenged Sevenfold - Beast and the Harlot
Suicidal Tendencies - Institutionalized
Dick Dale - Misirlou
Megadeth - Hangar 18
Lynyrd Skynyrd - Free Bird

As for the unlockable bonus tracks, RedOctane tells us that it wants to keep those songs a secret until release as to not spoil everything for the fans. Sounds good to us, though we\'re certainly interested to know simply what caliber of tracks will be included. Good things come to those who wait however, and luckily we have less than a month to do so.

um, I\'m confused after watching that. I\'ve never seen this game. Do you actually plug a guitar into it, or is it some cheesy plastic guitar that comes with the game? Are you actually playing the songs, or just trying to imitate the lights on the bottom of the screen?

here\'s the default guitar:

the 5 colored buttons on the fret board correspond with the colors at the bottom of the screen. there is a \'pick\' for your right (well, YOUR left) hand that moves up and down. there\'s also a working whammy bar:

to get an idea of what\'s going on on the guitar, here\'s a video of Cowboys From Hell (Pantera) from Guitar Hero in Expert Mode. it\'s one of the hardest songs on the first one, and this dude owns it. there\'s hammer ons and pull offs and all kinds of shit in there:

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=4266862911979111749&q=guitar+hero

what you should do is come over and play it one day.. you\'ll be hooked.. guarantee it..

That game is pretty fun..... but mostly because of the cool graphics and flashing lights and pretty colors.

For some reason playing those songs on a real guitar is a lot easier than that weird keytar-style thing they give ya. The built in whammy bar is pretty cool though.

Yeah its pretty fun, especially when you fall behind and miss 40 notes in a row and the crowd gets pissed off :D

It would be cool if there was a vaster library of songs to play though, that was my only complaint w. the first one. Never played Guitar Hero 2 though.

They should put Puppetry on guitar hero 3..... that shit would be impossible towards the end of the song hehehehe

that\'s why i can\'t wait for the new one to come out.. but i think it\'s pretty good for the first installment of the game - 30 songs to start off with, plus 17 bonus songs.. factor in that you\'re gonna be trying to master all the songs on every difficulty level.. GH2 is gonna be great. love the tracklist, and can\'t wait to play a lot of the songs..

i hope they continue with this series for a long time..

Yea, I kinda agree with bdfreetuna that I\'d rather just play the song on a guitar, but it would still be pretty cool to check out. Too bad there isn\'t a bass version. YYZ on bass is MUCH more difficult than it is on guitar. One thing you have to give geddy, even if you don\'t like his voice, the boy can play. His fill work in yyz are among the best 1-2 bar bass fills I\'ve ever heard. The guitar solo is pretty easy and very beautiful -  very eastern sounding. Lots of hammeron/pulloffs using open strings. The last bar is a really fun HO/PO line to play, all on the B string:

If you\'re feeling really brasen, heres the whole song on guitar (http://www.guitaretab.com/r/rush/16689.html) or on bass (http://www.cygnusproductions.com/rtp/bass/mp-yyz.btab). this is not good...

Quote
The rhythm-action specialists who brought us Frequency, Amplitude, Karaoke Revolution and, of course, the Guitar Hero games won\'t be developing the next Guitar Hero, GameDaily BIZ has learned. Instead of Harmonix, it would appear that Tony Hawk developer Neversoft now has that honor...

While rumors (stemming from EGM) circulated last week regarding a possible \'80s edition of Guitar Hero, an anonymous industry source tipped off GameDaily BIZ that development on the next Guitar Hero may be switching hands from Harmonix to Neversoft, known primarily for its Tony Hawk games.

When contacted for comment last week, Neversoft president Joel Jewett did not return our calls, while publisher RedOctane/Activision issued us the standard response that they "do not comment on rumor." Now, however, there\'s no denying it. The Neversoft website is literally split down the middle between Guitar Hero and Tony Hawk\'s Project 8, as Neversoft is apparently hiring for both franchises currently. (If for some reason the site is not working or has been changed, check out the screen grab below as evidence.)

Clicking on "Positions Available" for either game takes you to the same hiring/job listings page, and none of the positions explicitly mentions anything about Guitar Hero. And while details are scant at the moment, our source did indicate to us that the positions being filled are for Guitar Hero III.

Neversoft is undoubetdly filled with much talent, but we\'re not quite sure why RedOctane would give the development duties to them after Harmonix created two hugely successful games. Guitar Hero II really cranked it up to 11 with sales of more than 805 K units in December alone in the U.S. In fact, according to recent NPD data, the game was the fifth best selling game for all of 2006 with 1.3 million units sold in the U.S.

We hope to bring you more on this developing story very soon. Stay tuned!

SUNNYVALE, Calif., May 23, 2007 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX News Network/ -- After warming their amps in the basement garage to rocking sold out shows at Stonehenge, fans of Activision, Inc.\'s (Nasdaq: ATVI) wildly popular Guitar Hero(TM) franchise will now be able to shred like never before with the next iteration of the game that will be available this fall. The new game will be released on the PlayStation(R)2 computer entertainment system and PLAYSTATION(R)3 computer entertainment system, Xbox 360(TM) video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, and Wii(TM) video game system from Nintendo.

Turning it up to 11, Guitar Hero fans will channel their inner rock god using Gibson Guitar\'s Les Paul and Kramer models as the industry standard. In addition, players will experience an incredible number of newly added features and explosive content including a new multiplayer action-inspired battle mode, grueling boss battles, a bevy of exclusive unlockable content and authentic rock venues. Expanded online multiplayer game modes will also allow axe-shredders worldwide to compete head-to-head for true legendary rock status.

While continuing to retain all the key features from their prior legendary performances, fresh downloadable content will be offered on multiple platforms, and players can now shred to a killer set list from many of the gnarliest rock songs ever recorded. Delivering more master tracks than ever before, strategic partnerships have been secured with all the major and independent music record labels and publishers to allow unrivaled access to their deep history of music catalogs, along with supplying artists\' original recordings for even greater authenticity.

The initial list of face-melting awesomeness includes:

* Paint It Black (by The Rolling Stones)
* Cherub Rock (by Smashing Pumpkins)
* Sabotage (by Beastie Boys)
* The Metal (by Tenacious D)
* My Name is Jonas (by Weezer)
* Knights of Cydonia (by Muse)
* Rock And Roll All Nite (as made famous by Kiss)
* School\'s Out (as made famous by Alice Cooper)
* Slow Ride (as made famous by Fog Hat)
* Cult of Personality (by Living Colour)
* Barracuda (as made famous by Heart)

For the first time ever, Guitar Hero fans will also be able to thrash and burn with new wireless guitar controllers available for each platform. The exclusive Gibson guitars will include innovative features such as removable faceplates that will allow fans to later personalize their guitars and make it their own, and a new button color design that will be integrated for an even greater authentic feel and rock experience. Gibson Guitar\'s Les Paul model will be the battle axe of choice, and an industry standard for all rock gods on the Xbox 360(TM), PLAYSTATION(R)3 system, and Wii(TM). After much anticipation, PlayStation(R)2 system fans will also be receiving a new exclusive shape as well, the classic Kramer guitar, also a Gibson brand, popularized by hard rockers and known for its body design, pickups, electronics, and construction for furious finger fretting.

"The development team at Neversoft has been exceptional, and we\'ve been able to incorporate a host of fresh new online and multi-player game play modes, along with exciting content into this version of Guitar Hero that our fans have been asking for. Also, many of the top bands and songs we\'ve tried to get in the past are now on board, and we\'ve definitely got some giant aces in the hole to say the least," said Dusty Welch, head of publishing at RedOctane. "In addition, offering a new line of Gibson wireless guitars for each platform is going to truly add to the authentic rock star experience like no other."

The next iteration of Guitar Hero, published by RedOctane(R) and developed by Neversoft, is not yet rated by the ESRB. For more information about Guitar Hero, please visit the dedicated community site http://www.guitarherogame.com.

Someone should do the notes for Coventry. That shouldn\'t be too hard to keep up with. You can probably play Glide in your sleep, much like they did.

This past Monday, a group of ScoreHero members was flown out to visit Neversoft\'s Southern Calilfornia offices to play/test Guitar Hero III:
Legends Of Rock. Upon arriving, we were led to Neversoft\'s spacious mo-cap area, where we each had our own plasma screen and wireless Les Paul setup to demo as much of the x360 version as our hands could take over the span of about 5 hours. Now that we\'ve returned to our respective homes, we\'re proud to bring back some exclusive info about the game, which is being announced on ScoreHero before anywhere else.

Pictures of the after party at the hotel!

First up: the Grim Ripper will be returning as a playable character along with some old favorites from the Guitar Hero series, and a couple of new characters. The list of characters so far is:

Characters

Axel Steel
Casey Lynch
Grim Ripper
Izzy Sparks
Johnny Napalm
Judy Nails
Lars Umlaut
Xavier Stone
Midori (new)
Slash (legend)

Venues

We also have the list of all-new venues that will be appearing in the game over the 8 tiers, which are:

Backyard Bash
Mitch\'s Moose Lounge
Video Shoot
Ye Olde Royal Odeon
Shanker\'s Island
Desert Rock Tour
Kaiju Megadome
Lou\'s Inferno

Songs

Last, and certainly not least, we have FOUR brand new songs to announce, exclusively to ScoreHero:

- Suck My Kiss - Red Hot Chili Peppers (Master Track!)
- La Grange - ZZ Top
- Number Of The Beast - Iron Maiden (Master Track!!)
- Through The Fire And Flames - Dragonforce (Master Track!!!)

(which is in addition to the already-announced songs

Alice Cooper - School\'s Out
Beastie Boys - Sabotage (Master)
Foghat - Slowride
Guns N\' Roses - Welcome to the Jungle (Master)
Heart - Barracuda
Kiss - Rock N Roll All Nite
Living Colour - Cult of Personality (Master)
Muse - Knights of Cydonia (Master)
Pearl Jam - Evenflow (Master)
Priestess - Lay Down (Master)
Rolling Stones - Paint it Black (Master)
Smashing Pumpkins - Cherub Rock (Master)
Tenacious D - The Metal (Master)
The Scorpions - Rock You Like a Hurricane
Weezer - My Name is Jonas (Master)

It should also be noted that over 50% of the main-tier songs are master tracks, and over 70% including the bonus tracks!

Through this post, everyone who attended the session will add their own comments on their playtesting, but before then, some general information on the game:

- One of the biggest gameplay changes was with the system for hammer-ons and pull-offs. Rather than being based solely on the timing of the notes, Neversoft is able to program certain notes to be strummed or hammer-ons. The general guideline is, if a note is strummed on a real guitar, it will probably have to be strummed in-game. When a note is a hammer on for a real guitar, you\'ll probably be able to do a hammer-on for it in-game. This provides a much more realistic feeling to the charts.

- After our lengthy demo session, we sat down with some of the guys from Neversoft GH3 team in order to provide feedback on how the game was coming along, and what would be nice to see changed before release. We sat in for two hours and were able to discuss all parts of the game from top-to-bottom with the developers. It\'s an understatement to say that all of us who were out there are very eagerly awaiting the release of the latest game in the Guitar Hero franchise.

- "Through the Fire And Flames" is REALLY hard. We\'ll leave it to the individual posters to tell you how many times they failed it at 1-3%.

Title: Stage set for battle of the bands among gamers
Post by: Spacey on July 26, 2007, 01:27:34 pm
Just saw this on Reuters (http://www.reuters.com).

Quote from: Scott Hillis
SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - A battle of the bands is shaping up in the red-hot genre of musical video games, with a highly anticipated debut title set to take on a hit franchise for the collective rock \'n\' roll soul of gamers.

"Rock Band", which will be published by MTV and distributed by Electronic Arts Inc. (ERTS.O: Quote, Profile, Research), was a star of the video game industry\'s E3 expo this month, wowing crowds by showing how up to four wannabe rockers can sing, strum and drum together.

The game is going up against "Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock," the latest installment of a series that has boosted the sales and fortunes of publisher Activision Inc. (ATVI.O: Quote, Profile, Research).

Both games are set to be ready for release for the holidays and shaping up as fierce rivals with a shared lineage.

The first two "Guitar Hero" games were created by a pair of developers -- Red Octane, which fashioned the guitar-shaped controllers, and Harmonix, which crafted the games with a humor reminiscent of movies like "Spinal Tap" or "School of Rock".

The games\' success made the development teams targets. Last year Viacom Inc. (VIAb.N: Quote, Profile, Research) unit MTV Networks bought Harmonix as Activision snapped up Red Octane and the "Guitar Hero" brand.

"The music-game genre is growing explosively. I think it\'s plenty large to accommodate multiple franchises, more than two, really," said Harmonix co-founder Alex Rigopulos.

The games feature the same basic gameplay: colored dots representing notes cascade down the screen and a player wielding a guitar, for instance, pressing matching colored fret buttons while hitting a strum bar in sync with the dots.

PLAYERS OR PRANKSTERS?

But "Rock Band" will emphasize trying to recreate the chemistry of some of rock\'s most legendary groups, tantalizing gamers with promises of reams of downloadable content including whole albums like The Who\'s "Who\'s Next."

"Guitar Hero III" touts a competitive mode full of devilish tricks such as snapping strings to sabotage opponents with the brand landing exclusive talent such as former Guns \'N\' Roses guitarist Slash, who is a professed fan of the game.

"Guitar Hero" proved music-based games, long regarded by many as little more than ambitious karaoke, can be big bucks.

Activision this month said its quarterly performance will beat expectations partly due to "Guitar Hero II", which was on track to sell 1 million copies in the period -- despite its high price of $90.

"It\'s hard to imagine Activision today without the \'Guitar Hero\' franchise. It was truly a stroke of genius to acquire that property," said Janco Partners analyst Mike Hickey.

MTV has not revealed how much "Rock Band" will cost but speculation is rife that the whole package -- game, guitar, drum kit and microphone -- will run at least $200.

The games are shattering assumptions about gamers\' buying habits, proving they don\'t mind paying top dollar for a fun game that can be replayed over and over.

"I\'m not worried about the price point being a huge barrier because the experience is powerful enough," Hickey said of "Rock Band". "It\'s absolutely a beautiful product."

Financial terms between MTV and EA have not been disclosed, but simply distributing the game won\'t be as lucrative to EA as its core publishing business. Still, by attaching its name to one of the hottest new titles, EA gets bragging rights against Activision, its closest U.S. rival.

"What Activision provides now is huge muscle and know-how to take a franchise and extend it to the next level. My expectations are that \'Guitar Hero III\' will remain the leader," said Dusty Welch, Red Octane\'s head of publishing.

While I am freaked out by how much people will practice \'Rock Band\' rather than real instruments, I LOVE the fact that you will be able to jam with people from around the world.  That is just so sick.  Well, if it were really jamming.  You\'re all just playing the prescribed parts at the same time, there\'s no creativity involved whatsoever...for now.  That\'s coming in "Rock Band III" and GH6.  But the idea of having 3 or 4 people in different corners of the world playing songs together is lovely.

meh.

it\'s a moot point. at the end of the day, it\'s just a video game that happens to be \'about\' playing music..

you could make your argument for any video game on earth if you wanted to. if you spent your time playing football outside instead of madden, you could be the next michael vick. if you went outside and built walls all day instead of spending all that time playing tetris, you could have yourself one helluva masonry career. why not go out and steal real cars instead of playing grand theft auto? or save some real princesses instead of wasting your time on super mario brothers...

it\'s a video game - and probably the most fun and addicting video game of at least this decade. take it for what it\'s worth, and play it for hours and hours on end, cause it\'s FUN.

There\'s a bar in Davis Square in Somerville, MA called Orleans that has a GH tourney every Sunday night.  I\'m sure other bars do the same.  Forget live bands, DJs, sports on projector screens, pool tables, beer and wine selection, karaoke, or whatever else has brought people to bars for the last 100 years.  Now there\'s Guitar Hero night!

Ok just revently got into the whole Guitar Hero thing, it is def addictive.  Especially when I see videos like this and others on the web, it makes me me silly seeing poeple OWN shit on expert like that.  I suck in comparison.

But was just wondering what the deal is with makeing other songs, have seen a bunch of vidoes online for songs that certainly on the game.  Is this just for the 360? (I\'ve got the PS2)  or an online thing?  Just curious.

but GHIII looks awesome!, the actual main gameplay seems to have more levels and more songs, and some great songs too.

this is kinda weird...

the custom songs are for modded PS2s. you basically rip the original Guitar Hero II game to your hard drive, replace the music with different songs, along with the charts for those songs made my other people, and re-burn your custom game.

check out the FAQs on http://www.scorehero.com in the Custom Songs forum (you have to sign up there first - free of course). i\'m mkdevo over there if you want to compare scores. i\'m still working on hard, but have recently started playing on expert in Guitar Hero II.

also, is there an API for this that we can program breakfast songs in with?

it varies from song to song. some are GREAT, others are awful. Guitar Hero III has a lot more "master tracks" (original versions) and less covers than the previous games.

Quote from: tyzack;168502

totally possible. just go to youtube and search for "guitar hero custom" to see a bunch of the custom songs out there.

they\'re all based on Guitar Hero II for PlayStation2. you need a modded PS2 to be able to play games burned to DVD-Rs. basically, you rip the original GH2 disc to the computer, and there are programs where you can replace the music and note charts for the existing songs with new songs. there\'s another program to actually create the note charts. that\'s the hard (time consuming) part. if you make a shitty note chart, you might as well not even bother doing it, but if you take your time and pay attention to detail, it can be great.

check out the Software Forum (http://www.scorehero.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=16) and Custom Songs Forum (http://www.scorehero.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=34) over at scorehero. there are TONS of custom songs out there.

These games are 100000% cash-cows. They are so easy to make, the only real expense is buying licenses for the songs.

[Edit]
That being said, they are very good social games.

It\'s alot easier to get a mixed group of friends to play guitar hero/rock star than ghost recon, assassin\'s creed, gta, etc...

Hopefully this new one will get my friends more into the game... they all HATE guitar hero because boring to watch someone else play. Haven\'t tried rock band with a group yet though, so this new guitar hero would prob be more fun for them.

It\'s just because they all suck... gotta be the REAL reason they hate it. I love the shit and don\'t even play my real guitar as much anymore.
