-
i dont know who he was, but he was pretty good. it was a long jammed out vermont song, i really have no idea who he was though

Mountain of Venus\'s newest member, keyboard player Jim Kost, most recently of the Steve Kimock Band, is also highlighted by this older material, and his extensive background, including studies at the Berklee school of music, and experience with musical styles ranging from classical to jazz to rock, is a clear asset here. Jim uses his experiences with Steve Kimock (a musician with whom MOV has played several shows) to integrate himself into the band\'s sound and also to work with and challenge Mike to create sounds and music that, in turn, challenge and excite the crowd.

Mountain of Venus, ehh. i haven\'t seen that band in a good while.
-
so what excatly does this DO for the breakfast WITH the fact they do not have a full time keys player at the moment?
I know it was a sit-in but this just peaked my curiosity. Sorry I wasn\'t thinking when I was typing this I was trying to listen to the Lions game at the same time. It\'s no excuse I guess it just means I should do one thing at a time.
-
so what excatly does this band for the breakfast and the fact they do not have a full time keys player at the moment?
fragment: consider revising
2nd set was "da bomb", first set wasnothinhg special, but not bad.
-
Mountain of Venus, ehh. i haven\'t seen that band in a good while.
if i remember correctly the only time i saw anyone from MOV was at HSMF \'03. their singer sang Whipping Post with Psychedelic Breakfast and i just happened to walk up to the show with no expectations. needless to say they opened with Rufus and i was confused -- couldnt understand why i didnt here any hype surrounding them.
anyways, if this guy is a new addition to a different band is it safe to say he\'s not the one to fill Jordan\'s shoes?
so what excatly does this band for the breakfast and the fact they do not have a full time keys player at the moment?
what?

d00d, it\'s called a sit-in.. wtf????

At this point, I\'m not sure if Rujah-speak should elicit responses from us. There doesn\'t ever seem to be any quality control at the keyboard.

you are really starting to freak me out man.
pretty tight show last night. loved hearing a vt song, peaches, phaddy, dig, tribal, ldz, hdz, ad\'s drum solo...
i\'m gonna go out on the line here and say that i officially do not like surreal radio. it just doesn\'t do it for me.
-
i feel the same way, i never liked the song, just doesn\'t do it for me either, there is no depth to it
-
i\'m gonna go out on the line here
I think you go out on a limb, not a line. "Going out on the line" would mean either starting at offensive tackle or dying from an OD of coke.
-
The only thing Surreal about that song is that people do like it. Looking at that setlist(I know that they don\'t always mean good shows or bad), I am not too upset about staying home and saving $$. Plus I didn\'t want a hangover for the big day today.
Jam->Language->TFA looks like the ONLY interesting part of that show. There are alot of songs I would care less to see on that list, much better idea to go hiking and relax at home. VT Song should be shelved, period.
-
shut up seth.
you can say out on the line or limb.
-
look, not every song can be really dynamic and captivating. its like a song for agressive noobs who are having trouble identifying with scheme. i\'m not a huge fan of the song, but i like it for what it is: a short rocker (unique in the breakfasts repertoire)
but, if you put it among a set of d5, vt song, dig, phaddy, etc it is an especially big letdown.
-

Well who he is has been established so to the other question you poised I just say are U SER?
The Breakfast sound awesome w/ a keyboard player(esp. on this song) do you need any other reason than that?
-
They sound awesome without a keyboard player too. The thing that needs to happen is a permanent shelving of VT Song(aka the 10,000+ song that utilizes the Bo Diddley rythmn;))
-
anyways, if this guy is a new addition to a different band is it safe to say he\'s not the one to fill Jordan\'s shoes?

-
Do Re Me Fa

You Are listeeeenning to
surreal radio!
^^-- that part of the song kicks ass ;)
-
no it doesnt
-
sure it does. i love surreal radio
-
Don\'t get yer panties in a bunch!!! It was only a sitin!! And yes, no recording.
-
i like surreal radio as part of a two song encore
-
surreal radio...well...most of you know how I feel about that song. Its a good song. Just not my cup o\' tea.
Im also an avid supporter of shelving VT song...100%
-
i don\'t mind VT song that much. i\'ll enjoy it every great while, i just don\'t like it in the same set as phaddy boom batty.
-
welp, I\'ve always liked VT song...
08/05/06 Space City Affair > VT song was very cool... the song materialized out of thin air :)
-
Wait, who said shelf Vermont Song? Walsh?
High five!
-
fuck u guys i like it
-
well i guess we\'d better keep goin back and forth about surreal radio to figure out who\'s opinion is the correct one.
-
this show bored me.
-
Seems that Sept. 9th in New York City is a bad combo for The Breakfast. Everyone said that last year\'s Lion\'s Den show was also meh.
Somehow I managed to miss both of them.
-
I am spoiled I can\'t deny it. I agree with Spacey, this show bored me. I think there were alot of factors that went into that. I was in Boston the night befor eand was still a little run down from that, the guys were obviously feeling the effects from the night before, and the number one reason.....the venue was fuckin empty.
And shelving Vermont Song?? I\'ve been trying to get this to happen for aeons.
-
Kost called me about the keyboard gig before it was decided the hang trio for this tour. Stopped by to keep his hat in the ring and ended up sitting in.
I wouldn\'t make anything of it right now.
Of course, y\'all will anyway....
-
I don\'t understand how it became that on this thread,
Can\'t a sit in just be a sit in??? He plays keys, there were some on stage he played them. End O\' story.
-
you heard it here first, straight from vic\'s mouth, jim kost IS the new breakfast keyboardist! tell all your friends!
-
^^ladies and gentlemen Jim Rujah Cobb ;)
-
wait...i want in too........was it taped?....how many people were there?
i guess the new keyboard is gonna be a happen to make some if he thinks they want....
oldrujahnewbie?
-
i guess the new keyboard is gonna be a happen to make some if he thinks they want....
-
rotfl
-
just to repeat a couple things that have already been said:
- i recorded this show.
- the band\'s new keyboard player is not very good. terrible decision, imo.
- this show was *extremely* high energy!
- it was great to see such a big crowd in NYC!
- surreal radio is epic.
- best show ever.
-
That\'s the toughest Breakfast setlist I\'ve ever seen. Phaddy Boom Baddy, Vermont Song, Language, Bugs, and Dig all in one show? zzzzzzzzzz. Not to mention Fairy, Surreal Radio, and Sleeping Beauty which aren\'t usually exactly the barn burners either. All these songs can be good but they need to be surrunded by other stuff. They can\'t carry the show. Even the one A-list song (Tribal Funk Afflcition) had no segue when it is almost always used in a sandwich. Would it be too much to ask to do the old TFA > Sir Psycho Sexy > TFA?
The equivalent Phish set would be Fikus, Heavy Things, Train Song, Talk, Catapult, Mango Song, The Curtain (for Tribal Funk), Secret Smile, Peaches En Regalia (hehe), Friday
-
Would it be too much to ask to do the old TFA > Sir Psycho Sexy > TFA?
When they hit the funky part I almost expect to hear this sometimes, it works so perfectly
-

fixed.

oh, and i can\'t believe no one\'s mentioned that Moxie Epoxy hit the merch table early this weekend! i haven\'t stopped listening to it!! it\'s soooooo good!!
-
what what what???? did anyone grab me one. can anyone grab me one?
-
After reading this ENTIRE thread, I\'m still glad I decided to not go to this show.
.....Even with the new keyboardist, great crowd, sale of Moxie Epoxy, and kick-ass songs. But, hey, at least i can listen to the recording ;)
-
it\'s soooooo good!!
:that:

Definitely could toss a Camel Walk in there. At least Camel Walk became a ser bust-out even if it was a lame song. I think Za is reaching Camel Walk status as we speak.

Za is to Camel Walk as I\'m Too Sexy is to Stairway To Heaven.
-
what what what???? did anyone grab me one. can anyone grab me one?
can someone send me mp3s in exchange for my word that i WILL buy this as soon as i am able?
-
The good was sit in.
-
i heard the good was when are they coming back to nectars next
-
I thought the entire second set was great. I never liked Sureal Radio, but out of the four times I have seen it, this was the only time I could distinguish the different parts and the vocals. I enjoyed it for the first time. That\'s because the venue had great sound. It was clear and not too loud, just loud enough. People should get off their asses in NYC and come to the shows. It terrible that bands of such lesser talent can draw so many people, and such a good band has to play in front of 60 or so fans on a SATURDAY NIGHT IN NEW YORK!!!!!!!!!! This is not a new band anymore. I hate to join all of you complainers but they just have to expand the songs more and make them different each time they play them. Any song (Vermont Song?) can be good in the right spot, if played the right way. That is the end of my tirade for now, discuss amongst yourselfs.
-

It was suposed to be TFA>Chase>TFA. Thankfully that was dropped on stage like a blazing hot potatoe!!! Could have been a Ser train wreck!! And yeh, a little Sexy in the \'wich would have been great. TFA did contain some of the best Ronny I have seen lately though!!!
-
yeah I said that to Ron at the end of the night, sounded great in TFA!!
-

It\'s kinda tough when you have a venue that does not promote or advertise a show!! I didn\'t spend a lot of time looking, but I didn\'t notice much in the way of anything in the windows saying the band was playing there that night. :sigh: And...when you go to the CODA website, click on the link for the band playing THAT NIGHT and then click on "directions"....it gives you directions to the FUCKIN\' LION\'S DEN!!!! WTF?????? SUPER DICK!!!!! I wonder just how many people either pre-bought tickets (that also were for The Lion\'s DEN), or showed up in the village, found out that the band was not there, but on the other side of the city and just said "fuck it, let\'s go drinkin\'!!!"?????????????
FUCK CODA AND THE LION THEY FUCKED ON THE WAY TO THE CITY!!!!!!!
-
wtf? ME was on sale this weekend?
-
...as I\'m Too Sexy is to Stairway To Heaven.
Yeah, they\'re both GREAT songs. :duck:
-
i\'m too sexy for this thread. peace bitches....:inky:

as official merch table dismantler, i\'m gonna have to say Moxie Epoxy made no appearance on the table (so fuck anyone that skeezed one). look guys i may not be as "ser" as most of you guys, but i\'m no noob. if me and taintly mcgafferson (peaches) along with the temporarily financially wounded sallyalli and papa gfunk can (barely) make it to a venue an hour away from the band\'s hometown, don\'t you think some of you guys (cough cough) could\'ve made it out?
:crowd hisses:
I mean, it was a saturday night. how can you affect the setlist?
:gets jumped outside of Richter\'s:
thats dick
