wow.  what a show.  an old friend i went to high school with happened to randomly end up at this show by accident and now she and the 5 friends she was there with are bona fide breakfast fans.  you may remember them as the ones dancing up front, tossing an imaginary ball around between them.  very funny to watch.  she came up to me after the show demanding that i send her a facebook message whenever they\'re playing anywhere near NY.  new fans=successful show.

I thought the new tunes were remarkable.  I think this incarnation of the band is really ready to take it to the next level, professionally, and i think that they\'re well on their way to being able to make that happen.  the vocals were MUCH tighter than they were one month ago, if i do say so myself.

another weird small world moment.  so like 5 or 6 years ago, i went to see coheed and cambria with my friend rob in this little club in nyack and he brought this girl with him, jill.  cool girl and everything, but didn\'t really see much of her again until we ended up going to college together.  a few years after leaving college, our paths ended up crossing again in another context, and now it\'s been a couple years since i\'ve seen her.  so last night, who\'s at the show?  fuckin jill!  and why is she there?  matt is her cousin!

weird.

Haha, that\'s spooky!  Or would that be called fate?

I know what you mean about the vocals.  The harmony is back!

I agree about the vocal jams... they just don\'t hold my interest enough to happen at seemingly every show. I liked them better when they were just the occasional intro to Superfly.

Seeing two new original tunes on the setlist definitely makes me even more pumped to go to Daniel St. in a few hours.

Also, just a hunch, but I wouldn\'t be shocked if the first eight songs of that setlist are (approximately) the next Breakfast album.

Last night was an insane night of music - the new tunes are a lot of fun!  I really enjoyed Reel Time - it was upbeat and Synergy got pretty, er..."jammy", in the middle of the song, which was really cool too!  I\'ll have to listen to both songs again for a final decision, but they fit the new band\'s style and are definite going to be crowd favorites.

Rush on electric is WOW. That is all.  Tunage was also great last night, and for everyone against the vocal jams, it would have been different if you were AT the show - it fit perfectly... no complaints here.  Well, the only complaint was for Dig... I could have done without it completely.  I mean, it\'s a great song and cute, but, really? c\'mon...  All in all, a great night, though & it makes me so excited for the future!

wow. what a show. an old friend i went to high school with happened to randomly end up at this show by accident and now she and the 5 friends she was there with are bona fide breakfast fans. you may remember them as the ones dancing up front, tossing an imaginary ball around between them.

was her name kimberly by chance?

great, i\'ll add to your randomness. she was outside the club next door with two of her friends and there was a huge line and those obnoxious security gaurds yelling at the crowd. one of her guy friends pointed to sullivan\'s and asked me "is this show any good?" i said, "fuck yeah, it\'ll change your life." i saw them 10 minutes later in the front row, and they couldn\'t stop thanking me for being right.

I dont even know where to start regarding this incarnation of the breakfast.............i wasnt even gonna post, but i wanted to make a comment about the vocal jams.........i do believe that they have been going to them a lot of late, but you have to understand that even with 10 plus hours of practice a week, they are still a brand new band  (yet again).  they are still getting to know eachother musically and even though it is the ultimate phishy thing to do, short of  bringing out trampolines for hard luck harry,  i think that the vocal jams are intrugal for this band to really get intimate with themselves on stage together as a band.

This is truly a new age, yet again, for this band .  But the grueling practice schedule that they are adhering to as well the pressure of trying to learn an entire body of work while simultaniously creating a new one, is brand new to everyone.  It will take time but I do believe that it is obvious that they are on their way to make a monster statement in the world of music and     lights............

I also must say that I am still dealing with the loss and absence of Ron Spears.  He is a true leader and  instant inspiration to anyone who knows him.  When I heard that Ron was leaving, I figured that NYE would not only be his last show but also the breakfasts.

His leaving would leave behind the biggest pair of shoes needing to be filled.  Though i  am a forever optimist, i couldnt believe that, shortly after finding Oestreicher, could this band now find the one musician to fill the absence of Save in the breakfast.  In my mind they would have had to find not only a better technical musician, but also someone that could compliment all of the music that ron was part of creating.

After I heard this band with its new bassist, it was apparant to me that there is someone or something that just doesnt want this band to cease to exist.  At the acoustic show last night Chris Deangelis was described to me, and I think it sums it up perfectly, as a "savage bass player".  I would just like to thank Broseph for bringing us Chris Deangelis, for he is our savior  and the filler of the biggest shoes ever left on a rock and roll stage for a rock and roll band to fill.

seeing my own bones kinda gives me the willies

I hear that. I had my wisdom teeth out last week and developed a dry a socket (loss of blood clot in the extraction site) leaving my jaw bone partially exposed and visible.  It\'s weird but kinda cool looking at X-rays too. Especially of the skull. I forget that we are all skeletons wrapped up in veins and flesh.

Chris is the man. He is not too flashy but he is ultra precise with every note he hits and he hits all the right notes, right on time. His improvisation is very solid.  His sound (so far anyway) is a little less zippy than save\'s but equally stylish and much cleaner. I agree there is definitely a higher power working in this band\'s favor for them to first land striker  and now D-Man..it\'s simply miraculous. Glad to hear the intensive practice sessions are continuing. They should be firing on all cylinders by the time summer rolls around.

honestly, i have no idea. been seeing them pretty regularly since 2001. i\'d say i\'m somewhere around 50. (although that number\'s like a woman\'s age -- i never admit to it going up. hehehe.)
Title: sick show - my first!
Post by: devin concannon on February 25, 2008, 08:42:45 pm
this show was awesome... it was the first time ive seen them (i just turned 18) but ive been listening to them for almost a year. i loved the new stuff. i cant wait to hear it again once there are recordings available. synergy and rush and tunage were monster jams. i brought a "Hard Luck Harry please" sign... but to no avail. Tim and Matt got a good laugh out of it though. i hope chris learns it soon!

Now THAT is badass.. I mean really, staying at a show with a spiral fractured ankle is one thing, but persevering the rage after someone drops a Cleveland Steamer on your chest is admirable and nothing short of legendary. Your love for this band should be celebrated.

look on the right side of the main page where they list the shows available for download.

by the way...who wrote synergy? Chris?  that song is awesome!  they should bust into a techno jam at some point in that song.

the rush vocals have been stuck in my head since i first heard it and the jam in it is really sweet also.

The new songs are fantastic, I like them all for the variety mostly.  They are so diverse in sound...it is a really goof time for them and I hope they keep writing because it seems that they have tapped into something as far as creativity.

Leith...of course it sounds like Samson and Delilah and every other song that even slightly uses the Bo Diddley rythmn.  Just sayin\'.

I really cannot wait to hear some of these interwoven with old classics. Preferrably live and not over the PC...come to the SOUTH!
