Red Hot Chili Peppers have announced the final details surrounding the release of their new double album.

\'Stadium Arcadium\' will hit the shops on May 8 as the successor to 2002\'s \'By The Way\'.

Originally conceived as a 38-song trilogy, \'Stadium Arcadium\' will be a 24-track double LP with titles including the first single \'Dani California\', which will precede the album.

Other songs set to feature are \'Snow\', \'Animal Bar\', \'Wet Sand\', \'Charlie\', \'Desecration Smile\' and \'Hard To Concentrate\'.

Speaking to NME.COM about the title of the release, singer Anthony Kiedis said: "\'Stadium Arcadium\', in the end it has a very dreamlike feeling of we on Earth reflecting the cosmos on the heavens, and we on Earth reflecting it because that\'s where our inspiration comes from. It\'s more romance of sound or whatever retarded passions exist in your soul. It\'s kind of a romantic affair."

The LP also marks the first time the band have managed three consecutive records with the same line-up, following the return of guitarist John Frusciante to the fold for 1999\'s \'Californication\'.

However, Kiedis refuted the suggestion that this means the band had fully conquered their demons.

"It feels great, and I hope it stays that way, but I wouldn\'t say our troubles are all over. In some ways it\'s good to hold on to a few of your demons... I don\'t think our troubles are completely over. We\'re a bit bent in the head and I think that serves us well."

Red Hot Chili Peppers entered the studio last March with producer Rick Rubin (Beastie Boys, [a]System Of A Down) to start work on \'Stadium Arcadium\' and having played three shows at London\'s Hyde Park eighteen months ago to a total of 300,000 people, the band plan to return to the UK for a tour later this year.

Quote from: vh1.com/news
Initially, Stadium Arcadium, the Red Hot Chili Peppers\' forthcoming ninth studio album, was going to be released in three separate parts. Frontman Anthony Kiedis was keen on the idea — and championed it — until he realized the third installment of the trilogy wouldn\'t surface for almost two years.

"That notion, I couldn\'t handle," he said. "In a year and a half, I know we\'ll be writing new music and then it will be time for that. In the end, [these songs] seemed like a body of music that needed to be heard as one body."

So Kiedis and the Chilis suffered through the "heart-wrenching" process of cutting down the 38 tracks they\'d recorded with longtime friend and producer Rick Rubin to the 25 featured on the Stadium Arcadium double LP. "Slow Cheetah," "Storm in a Tea Cup," "Hard to Concentrate," "C\'mon Girl," "Ready Made" and "Desecration Smile" are just a handful of the tracks that survived the process and will make the record\'s track list.

"I think we always [approach the songwriting process] with this mindset that this time, we\'re going to write the perfect 11 songs and just put out 11 songs like they used to do in the days of Buddy Holly and the Beatles," Kiedis said. "Those early records were so short and sweet, and had this kind of lasting profound impact on the world because they\'re very memorable and digestible and, I don\'t know, maybe it just takes less energy or effort to connect with smaller collections. But as has been the case with every single time we\'ve tried to do that, we end up with 30 some-odd songs. The difference this time was we ended up liking all of those songs and finishing all of those songs and it actually became a very difficult process to even just whittle it down to 25. I think it\'s sort of the best thing that we\'ve ever done, and I just want to get it out there on the airwaves and in the earholes of the world."

Stadium Arcadium\'s first single will be "Danni California." Kiedis said the band plans to shoot a video for the track soon with Tony Kaye, who directed "American History X." The performance-based clip will boast an underlying story about a character that\'s appeared on the band\'s previous two discs.

"The spirit of Danni was evoked in the song \'Californication,\' and it talks about a pregnant teenager. And then she sort of comes to fruition in a song called \'By the Way,\' where she is actually mentioned by name," he said. "This song\'s the final chapter of Danni." Kiedis wouldn\'t elaborate further on the video\'s treatment, but did say Danni\'s "an amalgamation of lots of things and people — she\'s not really based on one person but a collective of probably every girl I\'ve ever met."

As for Stadium Arcadium\'s sound, Kiedis said the writing process was aided this time around by the fact that "everybody was in good moods. There was very little tension, very little anxiety, very little weirdness going on and every day we showed up to this funky room in the Valley where we write music, and everyone felt more comfortable than ever bringing in their ideas."

Every idea was used to create those 38 tracks. "There is a weird thread that connects back to our first three records," Kiedis added. "There\'s this weird kind of sublime, subliminal undercurrent that is suggestive, in a spirited way, of our earliest records. There\'s some retardedly painful funk on this record. There are a few songs that are just straight-up dirty funk, and beyond that, there\'s this ongoing progression of everything else that has been slowly happening between Californication and By the Way, with harmonies and textures. [Guitarist] John [Frusciante] has really fallen in love with the art of treating sounds. [The album\'s] layered, but not in a heavy-handed way. John\'s work is definitely of the masterpiece quality, as a guitar player and sound treatment-ist. He has certainly gone to some weird όber-level of hearing some Beethoven-sized symphony sh-- in his head. He really shines on this record."

The 13 tracks that didn\'t make it onto the final product might wind up surfacing commercially, after all, because "I\'d be crushed if they didn\'t get heard," Kiedis said. But it won\'t be cheap for the truest of the band\'s fans to get them all. The singer said the idea is to release different versions of the album through different retail outlets, each with a unique bonus track. So fans who download Stadium Arcadium using iTunes would get one bonus track — say "Especially in Michigan" — while those who picked up their copy at Target would get a different bonus song — like "Mercy, Mercy."

"We\'re going to try and do that with the independent record stores across America, and for all the monster chains," he explained. "We\'ll service everybody with a different bonus track, because we have them."

Stadium Arcadium is due May 9, according to the band\'s management.

Chili Peppers Stoked About New Album, Possible Kanye Tour

The Red Hot Chili Peppers have a lot of irons in the proverbial fire at the moment.

In addition to their May 9 double LP, Stadium Arcadium, there\'s the video the Peppers just shot with "American History X" director Tony Kaye for the track "Danni California." According to bassist Flea, it explores "the tradition and the beauty of the history of rock and roll."

The funkmeisters have also been booked for a handful of European summer festivals, and Flea divulged that they\'ve even agreed, in principal, to play Lollapalooza (see "Lollapalooza Returning As A Three-Day Festival"). Oh, and then there\'s that idea they\'re kicking around that involves them doing a U.S. arena tour with Kanye West, which, if all goes according to plan, would launch in late August with dates running through the winter.

"I think we\'ll be doing some legs with Kanye, but I don\'t know if that\'s confirmed yet or not," Flea said. "I think we\'re going to do a month or two with him. I think it\'s going to happen, and I hope it happens. He\'s a great artist ... and we always try to get the best people to play with that we can."

Last month, frontman Anthony Kiedis told MTV News that discussions had been initiated between the Chili Peppers and Kanye camps. "I\'m a fan of him in general and I think his music is very good, and I just like his vibe and his energy," Kiedis said. "We\'ve had good success with bringing bands [on the road with us] that aren\'t traditionally seen as going together, and the more we can kind of break the mold of a genre-specific bill, it\'s kind of good for us. It would be great. I hope it all works out. The channels have been opened."

A spokesperson for West had no comment.

But even if things don\'t end up working out with West, it doesn\'t look as if it\'ll dampen Flea\'s enthusiasm about the 25-track Stadium Arcadium. He said he hasn\'t been this excited about the band\'s music since "we first started in 1983." The songs, he said, "mean so much to me — it\'s the best record we\'ve ever made. I feel so important to share [this album] with the world. Making this record, I just feel like each one of us was at the best that we could be. This Stadium Arcadium, this is our grand statement — this is the best that we can do. This is the best we\'re capable of. If you don\'t like this [record], you don\'t like the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Period."

Flea said that all the ingredients were in place for the band\'s "magnum opus": Producer Rick Rubin (Slayer, Jay-Z) was back on board to twist the knobs, and "we worked really well communally together. We really respected each others\' opinions and didn\'t waste time arguing about stupid stuff. We really just got down and made some music."

This was not the case when the Peppers recorded 2002\'s By the Way. "It was an unpleasant experience for me," Flea explained. "There was definitely tension in the group, tension between [guitarist] John [Frusciante] and I, and I didn\'t feel comfortable creatively within the band. I didn\'t feel free to express myself. All of that [was] resolved [during the Stadium sessions], and we got to this place where we felt very free. We were all getting along and all working together well, and when we do that, that\'s when we\'re at our best — that\'s when the real magic happens."

Arcadium, Flea said, is a funk-riddled rocker, which should be good news for the band\'s longtime fans. But the album has its tranquil, muted moments too.

"I\'ve always loved being mellow," he said, smiling. "Love being intense too. I can\'t describe what effect [this music will have] on people and whether people [will] perceive it as being mellow or what. We keep rolling along and we learn stuff as we go, and the more that we learn, the more we keep adding. I think initially with us, the main thing we knew how to do was rock out. Just rock the f--- out — to just go into animal mode and get into this primal thing. We\'ve always loved that, and that\'s always the essence of what we do: complete surrendering to the groove and giving it up.

"But as you go, you learn other things," he continued. "You learn harmony and melody and how beautiful it is to love something as delicate as a flower petal. You deepen. To me, we\'ve retained the intensity and used it in a lot of different ways. But I think people are going to be able to rock, and I think people will get their boogie shoes on and have a good time. I think that everybody likes to feel the power of life."

hopefully not long at all, unless i\'m the only one that likes it, and no one wants to play anything, which is what happened with By The Way.

fyi, there\'s a \'trailer\' for the new album on redhotchilipeppers.com. it\'s about 2:30 in length, and features a REALLY good medley of rhcp tunes, with a 15-20 second teaser of \'Dani California\' from the upcoming album at the end...

Lyrics

Getting born in the state of Mississippi,
Her Poppa was a copper and her Momma was a hippie,
In Alabama she will swing a hammer,
Price you got to pay when you break the panorama,
She never knew that there was anything more than all,
Well in the war what does your comfort obtain me for,

Black bandanna, sweet Louisiana,
Robbing on a bank in the state of Indiana,
She\'s a runner, Rebel and a stunner,
Come to Mirawais saying "Baby watcha gona?",
Looking down the barrell of a hot bell 45,
Just another way to survive

CHORUS:
California, Rest In Peace,
Simultaneous release,
California, show your teeth,
She\'s my priestess, I\'m your priest,

Yeah, yeah

She\'s a lover, Baby and a fighter,
Shoulda seen it coming when I got a little brighter,
With a name like "Dani California",
Day was gonna come when I was gonna mourn ya,
A little low, That she was stealing another bread,
I love my baby to death

CHORUS

Who knew the hardest side of you?
Who knew the hardest time to prove?
Too true to say goodbye to you
Too true to say, say, say

Pushed the fader, Gifted animator,
One for the now, And eleven for the later,
Never made it up to Minnesota,
North Dakota man was gonna fill the quota,
Down in the Badlands she was saving the best for last,
It only hurts when I laugh,
Gone too fast

CHORUS x 2

gonna be hard to pull myself away from the screen anytime soon...

Holy shit! Four long years and finally new RHCP!  Seeing that video was like having your first cigarette after attempting so quit, only minus the guilt.
Thanks so much for that link!

Here is a stab at the bands tributed/parodied:
Elvis>Beatles>Hendrix>P-Funk>NY Dolls>Sex Pistols>Misfits>Poison>Nirvana.

I think AK\'s Hendrix looks more like Prince, but Prince did try to look like Hendrix.

Alright, so I can\'t get the damn Wet Sand link to upload on this site.
Coyote=no like computer
DavePeck thinks it\'s probably a fake anyway.  He\'s probably right, but I\'ve been wanting to hear JF do a lead vocal for while, so against my better judgement I\'m hoping it\'s not. I\'m also hoping it sounds a little better on the final cut, than on this boot.

If anyone would like to hear for themselves and weigh in shoot me an email, and sooner or later I\'ll send it to you.

I just listened to By The Way for the first time since its release. I just laid back and was literally taken away. The RHCP are probably the best American rock band playing/recording right now. All I could think of was Beatles, Beatles, Beatles. Rubin\'s subtleties really stuck out (ie the strings, properly placed synth and keys etc) and Keidis has taken his b-boy writing style to the next level.  An epic album of minimalism.

04.10.06 Red Hot Chili Peppers Makes History at Radio

The Red Hot Chili Peppers\' "Dani California" (Warner Bros.) this week becomes the second song ever to debut atop Billboard Radio Monitor\'s Modern Rock chart. R.E.M. was the first to accomplish this feat doing so in the Sept. 16, 1994 issue of Monitor. "Dani California" is the Chili Peppers\' ninth No. 1, a new record for the format. The quartet had previously been tied with Green Day and U2 for all-time Modern Rock chart toppers. The track enters the chart with 2,558 spins which is the highest single week tally of any song in 2006 and the highest single week debut total since "Somewhere I Belong" hit the chart with 3,114 detections. Detections were garnered at all 75 of the panel\'s reporters with 73 stations recording Airplay Adds for six or more spins.

"Dani California" also becomes the first song to debut in the top five at Modern, Active Rock and Heritage Rock in the same week. The track enters the Active Rock chart at No. 2, that chart\'s highest debut since the June 6, 2003 issue when Metallica\'s "St. Anger" opened at No. 1 with 1,725 spins. This week\'s total of 1,435 is the third highest single week debut trailing "St. Anger" and "Somewhere I Belong". 58 of the 60 monitored reporters spun the song at least six times for Airplay Adds with spins detected at all 60 stations. At Heritage Rock, "Dani California" enters at No. 4 which equals the debut of Pearl Jam\'s "World Wide Suicide" in the March 17 issue and its 303 spins is the most for a debut since Van Halen\'s "It\'s About Time" opened with 423 in the June 4, 2004 issue.

kinda old but I just stumbled onto this:John Frusciante, Red Hot Chili Peppers\' guitarist, has covered Radiohead\'s \'You and whose army\' at the Los Angeles Weekly Music Awards. John played the song from Amnesiac on acoustic guitar. Although the video quality is not that good, you might want to check out this bootleg video (http://raiy.dreams-in-color.net/videos/John%20Frusciante%20-%20You%20and%20who\'s%20army%20-%20LA%20Weekley%20Awards.mpg) of the performance. [thanks Nitan]

I can\'t download at work, but theres the link anyway.

due to technical difficulties, i was unable to listen to all of SA yesterday.. however, early standouts:

Dani California: love it - don\'t care if it\'s a single
Tell Me Baby: wow. hard, funky, soft, emotional.. the best of both RHCP worlds.
Readymade: saw it in vegas last year and loved it. the studio version is fantastic. this song flat out rocks.

Good news- After much difficulty and staying up waaay too late last night I downloaded the entire Jupiter Disc track by track.

Bad news- Half the tracks are fakes from that same bullshit band who got me before.

Good news- Half the tracks are legit! Listened to Charlie & Hump de Bump on the way to work!

As for tour dates whenever you see NY listed as NY/NJ it\'s ALWAYS the Meadowlands.  I had this debate with someone who should know better before the announcement.  Sometimes I hate being right.

Post by: davepeck on May 02, 2006, 09:43:49 am
yeah, they had NY/NJ on the early announcement.. i\'m just surprised to see Continental Airlines Arena; New York, NY on this one.. IMO, that\'s even worse than Tweeter Center; Philadelphia, PA (Camden, NJ) and Tweeter Center; Boston, MA (Mansfield, MA)...

but anyways... Montreal, Boston, Albany, and E.Ruth for me...

yes, it is stealing from us, and that is lame everyone has to live with their own conscience on that one let it be your guide but to take a version that has been defiled sound wise a version in which some idiot has taken our year and a half of soul baring work and pissed all over it that will break our hearts

I look at downloading like the free preview you get in the store when you scan the disc with the headphones. I\'m listening to it to preview. Then I go and buy. The only reason I got this one was it was given to me, as I said earlier. I do have some stuff that I was given or cd\'s I borrowed from the public library and ripped, but 90%+ of my collection is bought.

The nice thing about that is when one of your mp3 drives crashes, you can just re-rip all the albums, teadious though it may be. :banghead:

i\'m all for previewing music you\'ve never heard before, and believe me i\'ve pirated plenty of music in my day.... but in this case when you know that you are going to be buying the album in a week, why do you need to preview it??? i understand if you aren\'t that big of  RHCP fan and you aren\'t sure if your going to buy it, but i think most of the people who said they downloaded it off oink prob are big enuff fans that they will def go buy it.

But all in all, its really everyone\'s own choice, so i\'ll leave it at that.

i\'m all for previewing music you\'ve never heard before, and believe me i\'ve pirated plenty of music in my day.... but in this case when you know that you are going to be buying the album in a week, why do you need to preview it??? i understand if you aren\'t that big of RHCP fan and you aren\'t sure if your going to buy it, but i think most of the people who said they downloaded it off oink prob are big enuff fans that they will def go buy it.

Quote from: davepeck
yeah.. i\'ve had the deluxe edition (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000ENV2P0/pbfanscom-20/) on pre-order since the day it went on sale, but i sure as fuck couldn\'t wait one more week, knowing that it\'s out there and i could hear it now. ;)

i disagree (which i seem to be doing a lot of lately) because when dave says "it\'s out there", i think he is incorrect.... what "is out there" is a bootleg, no matter how close it is to the real thing, it isn\'t the same... as someone who collects vinyl i would never buy a reissue because it is truely not the same, and really not worth having.... as a recording musician i know that every sound that is put into a recording should be there for a purpose and is mastered over and over again to make it just perfect.   I am not trying to start an all out war on the people on this board who have decided to download it, but all i know is that the first time i hear this album, i will be listening to the real thing the way the band wanted me to hear it.

end of discussion.

I totally understand you, but I like remixes as well. That\'s why I own 19 albums by rush on LP, and the remastered cds for all the albums (with the exception of vapor trails, I haven\'t been able to find anything post hold your fire on record). Same goes for about 25 zappa albums. I think it\'s neat to hear how stuff evolves as it is recorded. Like hot rats. The LP is almost completely different mix from the cd. In some cases with different musicians. I think it\'s cool to have the two different mixes and see if you can pick up what they changed. sometimes it\'s good, sometimes not. Either way though, I bought it.

I\'m not looking to start an argument either, just my 2 cents. :)

nah i know man, i\'m just busting your balls.

but if you read my posts you\'ll see that i admit to pirating plenty of music and that the reasons i think people shouldn\'t download is
A) because of sound quality and
B) because it is coming out in literally 4 days, and most of the people who said they d/l it said they were gonna buy it anyways.

if you don\'t plan on buying it or are previewing b/c your not sure if you want it or not, thats your own morality judgement.  i ain\'t gonna judge people for downloading illegally ya know.
but as long as we\'re taking it there, personally i feel an obligation to the band as a long time fan to buy and hear their music when and how they want me to.  I mean lets just say that the bfast blow up (which i know all of us want) and they are millionaires, and they put out their 6th,7th,8th album, i bet most of these peeps would still pay for it....but hey maybe i\'m wrong
Title: Red Hot Chili Peppers - Stadium Arcadium/Tour news...
Post by: davepeck on May 05, 2006, 09:13:45 pm
before i argue a couple points, i just want to make sure it\'s clear that this is nothing more/nothing less than a good argument.. just don\'t want anyone to take anything personally here..

now, to your points, mike:

a) completely agree that the rips are of inferior quality to the actual cd. but by that token, then i shouldn\'t put this cd (or any other, for that matter) on my ipod.. what i\'m saying is, i\'m going to be listening to mp3 versions of this cd even AFTER it comes out, so this sound quality thing isn\'t really an issue here. if anything, it\'ll just make it more refreshing when i do get to pop the actual cd in. i\'m going to come back to this point later..

b) i\'m not going to have the cd on release day. i wanted the deluxe edition, so i ordered it from amazon, which was the cheapest i could find it at $45 (yes, i\'m actually electing to pay 3x more for this album than most people are). anyways, my amazon account says: Delivery estimate: May 16, 2006 - May 18, 2006. so while it does \'come out\' in 4 days, i\'m not gonna have it in my hands then.. so if i\'d waited until tuesday to download it, would that be ok in this regard?

so flea is frustrated that the album leaked, and is upset that people aren\'t hearing the album the way it was meant to be heard, which is a point you argued as well. while i\'d like to sympathize here (i mean, RHCP are my favorite band), i instead have to call a time out wait just a second! um... this is a band who recently made their entire catalog available on itunes, along with a pre-order for stadium arcadium on there as well!! i\'m sorry, but that right there completely negates anything the band has to say about hearing this the way it was meant to be heard! it actually makes the whole damn thing flea wrote quite laughable..

look, i think everyone should buy this album, and i also think if you download something and like it, you should purchase it. but as far as me, personally downloading something before i have the real thing (whether it\'s before the real thing comes out or not), i just don\'t see anything wrong with it, because of the points mentioned above..

oh by the way (no pun intended), vh1 is streaming the entire album, which is apparently legal, and yet probably not the way the band intended the album to be heard either.. :idunno:

well put dave....i was waiting for your input, you always seem to say the right thing.
but just to keep playing devil\'s advocate, i think that probably the main reason why the peppers put their whole catalogue on itunes (like most musicians) is only to fight illegal music pirating in the first place.  give the people a way to get mp3 files of their music while still paying for it.

also, deciding to get the deluxe edition was your choice, and a commendable one i guess (still not really sure what is so great about it...a sack of marbles and some liner notes?) but if you really wanted the deluxe edition then you have to take into account that your paying more and waiting longer for a more extensive package.

but basically i think the whole music pirating is an iffy subject.  not everyone can afford to buy every album they hear or download, and i wholeheartedly agree with wah when he said, "whats important is the music" and i happen to think that everyone should be able to hear as much music as they possibly can.  if people were interested in my own music i would let anyone have it for free, and i think its the same for most aspiring musicians (thus sites like archive.org, etc) but once you realize that people will pay for your music its hard to get back to that place, especially when your making a living out of it.  and also, i don\'t think i would make such a fuss about many other albums, seeing as rhcp is as well my favorite band and i\'ve been waiting for this album since hearing the closing seconds of venice queen almost four years ago.
so i think this might be somewhat of a personal thing seeing as anyone could probably make all the same points that i have just subsituting their favorite band in for all the times i said "rhcp".  and i would probably be on the other side of this little squable if it weren\'t a band i felt strongly for.   all in all, i don\'t think anyone is a bad person for deciding to download this album a week in advance, i just wanted to show people another view that they might not consider when having it shoved in their face for free.  do what you got to do guys and gals....you\'ve heard the arguments.

as for me, the countdown continues..... 3 days baby!!!!

Okay, now that the dust has settled on that one...........

I got my tix for Jersey.  18th row.  Cool I guess...
Indoors, arena, on a Tuesday night and not \'til October.
I promised myself no more arena shows... oh well.

Not taking the wife.  How am I gonna explain that?  She\'s not really a fan, and buddy of mine got the tix, but I think I\'m in deep shit here folks!  I just can\'t sit through this show hearing "When are they gonna play Under the Bridge?" every ten minutes.  Man, I\'m in deep shit.

Personal favs on the new album so far:
Especially in Michigan,  Strip My Mind, Slow Cheetah
I only have one disc though, that all changes tomorrow!

not sure what to tell you about the wife... what night jersey? we\'ve got a pair on the floor both nights, but in the second section (6).. also got a pair 3rd row in 110 night 2 (those are fantastic seats), and 9th row in 109 night 1.

since the presale tix were so good, i went for 2 pairs each night except boston (the fan club tix weren\'t all that great).. as of right now, there\'s a 4th ticket for (almost) every night, so if you\'re interested in doing another show, let me know..

5. charlie (i like the bass line)
6. Dani California

While I\'m on the subject of lyrics-  In Strip My Mind (09 Jupiter) it starts out "Arthur J. did indicate it..."

The only "Arthur J." I\'m familiar w/ is Finklestein. For those of you who haven\'t heard of this buffoon, he is an ultra-conservative facist strategist, who is also a homosexual jew.  That\'s right.  Sort of the real life equiv. of Dave Chappelle\'s black klansman.  This can\'t possibly be the ref. can it?  Unless they find him so ridiculous they had to throw a mention?  No, no can\'t be.  Someone out there knows the real ref., and yes I\'m that obsessed that it will bother me not to know.

so i just got done watching the Stadium Arcadium bonus DVD for the first time, and i was really impressed.. Dani California video, half-hour making-of the video, and over an hour of commentaries from Anthony & Flea and Chad & John about 25 of the 28 songs on the album. i was gonna listen to see if they said anything about the "Arthur J." line, but Strip My Mind is of course one of the three songs that doesn\'t have a commentary!

the box set is really cool, and worth it for the dvd alone. but the CD packaging inside the box is different than the normal CD. so, being the completist that i am, i just placed an order for the standard Stadium Arcadium, along with Dani California 1 (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000F5Z6HW/pbfanscom-20) and Dani California 2 (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000FBFSO2/pbfanscom-20).

Chili Peppers Post \'Stadium\' At No. 1

For the first time in their 22-year career, Red Hot Chili Peppers score a No. 1 album on The Billboard 200. The two-disc "Stadium Arcadium" (Warner Bros.) sold 442,000 copies in the United States in its debut week, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The total is the band\'s career best sales week, beating the opening week of 2002\'s "By The Way," which bowed at No. 2 with 282,000.

"Stadium Arcadium" is RHCP\'s ninth studio effort and its fifth top 5 entry. The album\'s first single, "Dani California," is also the group\'s ninth No. 1 on Billboard\'s Modern Rock chart, the most by any artist.

to those of you who thought that \'Dani California\' and \'Mary Jane\'s Last Dance\' sounding alike equated to Tom Petty suing RHCP:

Tom Petty Responds To Red Hot Chili Controversy
Does "Dani California" sound too much like "Mary Jane\'s Last Dance"? Tom Petty tells Rolling Stone he doesn\'t give a shit.

"I seriously doubt that there is any negative intent there. And a lot of rock \'n\' roll songs sound alike. Ask Chuck Berry. The Strokes took \'American Girl\' [for their song \'Last Nite\'], and I saw an interview with them where they actually admitted it. That made me laugh out loud. I was like, \'OK, good for you\' ... If someone took my song note for note and stole it maliciously, then maybe [I\'d sue]. But I don\'t believe in lawsuits much. I think there are enough frivolous law suits in this country without people fighting over pop songs."

I was watching Bob Dylan "No Way Home" I believe on CPTV two nights ago and someone stated that since the beginning of time people have taken another persons song and added a twist to it. It just something that happens. Of course he was referring to Folk music but the same is for anything.

So you like Stadium Arcadium....

Why not try Stadium Markadium?

This special bonus feature of the Red Hot Chili Peppers newest album can be had by following strictly the following directions:

1. Insert CD\'s 1 and 2 (Mars and Jupiter) into computer

2. Using futuristic CD "burning" technology (contact local electronics retailer or site administator for more info) make a new CD containing this track list:
1. Tell Me Baby
2. Charlie
3. 21st Century
4. Hump de Bump
5. She\'s Only 18
6. Readymade
7. Make You Feel Better
8. Torture Me
9. Especially in Michigan
10. So Much I
11. Warlocks
12. Storm in a Teacup
13. Turn it Again

3. Put in CD player and rock out

Now some might say "Hey Mark, where is the hit single Dani California?" or "Isn\'t this a bastardization of the chili\'s original vision?"

To these questions I reply "Die in a fire asshole(s)."

This super special bonus feature may not for everyone (especially those with vaginas) and should be treated with caution, as it will make you drive your car real fast.

jesus christ... 4th row floor, john\'s side.. no way i could possibly put it into words. absolutely sick. could not believe they played blood sugar and nobody weird.. i just wanted to say \'fuck the recording\' and freak the fuck out.. i kept my cool though (as best as i could while making multiple sexy explosions in my pants).. listening back a little bit now.. gonna have to listen back on some real speakers, and when my ears aren\'t ringing so much.. sounds like it may be a little overloaded at times, but overall pretty good, considering it was so close..

i didn\'t record TMV tonight, though i plan to other nights.. they were good; not great.. there was a good amount of wanking, but also a lot of good shit.. oh, and if jim cobb and prince got together and made a baby, it would be Cedric Bixler-Zavala. seriously.

great show last night.. unfortunately, the sound sucked.. it started off ok, but it sounded like during Charlie, the levels just got cranked to an uncomfortable level, and they stayed that way for the rest of the show.. like i said, i thought the show itself was great, but the sound was just way too overloaded..

it was great to hear YPGTABOF, and i had tears in my eyes during Strip My Mind.. i\'ll also take I Could Have Lied over Under The Bridge ANY day.. oh, and READYMADE!! :D

it was funny when john started ICHL, anthony had to come running out from backstage to get to the mic in time.. afterwards, anthony said \'i was literally in Woosta when you started that song\'..

i do have to say, The Mars Volta had a great night last night. MUCH better than montreal. they sounded better, they played better, and they didn\'t even play anything off of Deloused!

these next 2 weeks are gonna suck waiting for NJ..

Fun show last night w/ Team Pecoraro!  Nothing like scoring a ticket at 6PM when you had no plans on going.  Definitely some awesome song choices last night.  I just want to hear one song from Freaky Stylee one time, currently 0 for 4 shows, but I\'m not complaining.  RHCP is awesome.  I was kinda realizing how I\'ve totally grown up with this band.  I\'ve never even been a huge fan (at least compared to the way I\'ve done Phish/Breakfast/MMW etc.) but as I listened to them play Blood Sugar Sex Magic I was suddenly transported back to summer camp and Fortune Faded made me remember covering RHCP later on in bands in high school.  You don\'t have to be a huge RHCP fan or even own every album or anything, but if you grew up in the 90\'s at all and you don\'t like RHCP, there\'s something seriously wrong with you.  What a great band.  Long live RHCP.

RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS and GNARLS BARKLEY in 2007!
Category: Music

RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS AND GNARLS BARKLEY
WILL HIT THE ROAD TOGETHER NEXT YEAR

LOS ANGELES, October 16, 2006 -- Red Hot Chili Peppers and Gnarls Barkley will hit the road together for three months (January to March) in early 2007, playing arenas across the United States. Specific dates will be announced shortly.

The Chili Peppers launched their current U.S. tour to much praise in August, in support of their critically acclaimed double album Stadium Arcadium. Produced by Rick Rubin, the album debuted in May at ..1 in 28 countries around the world, including topping the Billboard 200 on their home turf. Thus far the album has spawned a pair of ..1 Modern Rock hits "Dani California" and "Tell Me Baby."

Gnarls Barkley, the combination of Grammy-winning producer Danger Mouse and superstar vocalist Cee-Lo Green, released their debut St. Elsewhere CD this year to critical acclaim. Their first single, "Crazy" garnered more radio format play than any single in U.S. radio history -- with nine radio formats and a U.S. radio audience of nearly 100 million. A top five album in almost every country in Europe, the band was recently nominated for two MTV Europe Music Awards for best song and best video. St. Elsewhere is currently on its way to double platinum sales in the U.S.

Safe to say it will be a powerful concert bill.

Stadium Arcadium is the ninth studio album from the Chili Peppers. All told, the band has sold more than 50 million albums, logged seven multiplatinum CDs and earned a record-setting ten .. 1 Modern Rock hits.

They also continue to ride the crest of the ongoing awards season, topping nominations for the 13th annual MTV Europe Music Awards with best rock act, best group, best album and best song for "Dani California." The band also tied for most nominations for the 2006 American Music Awards where they are up for Pop/Rock nominations for favorite and, duo or group, favorite album and favorite artist in the Alternative Music category. Additionally, Chili Peppers have been nominated for the 2006 mtvU Woodie Awards on MTV\'s 24-hour college network for Alumni Woodie (aka The You\'re Still OK in our Book Award).

Gnarls Barkley is currently preparing a limited edition deluxe package of St. Elsewhere for release November 7. The CD+DVD package includes a 92 page booklet, four music videos and bonus songs from live performances.

Gnarls also recently released a video for their second single, a cover of the Violent Femmes classic "Gone Daddy Gone."

^^ Live footage shot for the Snow video. Crowd was given pen lights on the way into the show, and Flea told everyone to light them up during the song so they can get something cool looking for the video. Snow (confetti) came down on the audience mid-song.

i\'m pretty sure that\'s the order, but i\'ll have to listen back.. almost identical to boston, save Stadium Arcadium and Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow (:thumbsup::thumbsup:). definitely a \'warm-up\' show to get back into the swing of things.. anthony forgot a LOT of lyrics, including most of Can\'t Stop.. :sigh:

Flea was puking behind his amp(s) during WYSLMT.. "vomit, and piss, and of course love and peace, thats all the shit that makes up music!"

tough recording conditions..  i had obnoxious-screamer-girl to my right, and no-rhythm-clap-on-every-beat-guy right in back of me.. also, definitely the drunkest crowd of the three shows i\'ve seen so far..

the mars volta didn\'t really do it for me last night.. they had their ups and downs, but overall, i didn\'t like their set nearly as much as boston (could be that one 30-minute tune they played).. and i missed a couple minutes of their set because they went on at 7:30 sharp (which they have been, but last night\'s tickets said 8:00, and the others have said 7:30).. well, at least i know for tonight..

i better go post the breakfast setlist before i get yelled at..

the mars volta were insulting last night.  first, a song that i\'d never heard before.  didn\'t have much substance to it.  i\'d say an A section and a B section repeated over and over.  then a half hour long jam in which they played one riff ad nauseum with cedric wailing inaudible words that he probably made up anyway with lots of silly panning/delay effects on his voice.  at a certain point i felt like they were intentionally fucking with me, as when it seemed like they were going to start to do something interesting or different or even better, PLAY AN ACTUAL SONG, they\'d bust back into that one riff.  i felt almost as if i was being mocked by the band.  once that finally ceased, a less than stellar performance of a tune off their most recent record.  end of set.

she grew up in idaho, but she moved to fairfax from her sophmore year on. we were both into acting (i\'d been doing professional stage work already) so we had several classes and tons of after school time together. and, if you didn\'t know, the theatre folks made the band camp kiddies look like prudes! she was smart enough to not get too involved with our reindeer games, but eventually i got a single make-out session outta her. it was those lips, man, i couldn\'t resist those lips. anyway, fast forward a few years and she\'d gone to paris for modeling and had come back to la, via new york. while she was out there, she met keidis and they even ended up dating for a couple years.

but i was there first, dammit!!!

10/18 might be my favorite concert I have ever seen.
Highlights:
1. John Frusciante doing Art Garfunkel.  Has he done this before? Beautiful.
2. My seats. 18th fucking row, me on the aisle. I could see the wear on all John\'s guitars not just the really beat up one he was playing at the end.
3. Snow ((Hey Oh)) with the "snow" falling on us and in my beer.
4. 21st Century.
Low light:
When AK introduced Scar Tissue by saying \'this song is older than some of you\'.  I thought we going back to the Hillel days.

^^ Once again, snow came down on the audience (MUCH more than the previous night). Pen lights were again handed out, but there was no mention during the show about the video or where/when to use them.

i\'m pretty certain that\'s the order.. BY FAR the best of the 4 shows i\'ve seen so far this tour, and i doubt that it\'ll be topped in boston or albany. after fortune faded, they really strayed from their normal setlist (save john solo and snow), and i got my first Century, Parallel, Hump, and Wet Sand of the tour. not to mention Nobody Weird again.. seeing 4 \'new\' songs in a setlist is a LOT for a RHCP show, and it really made the show for me. especially since before the show i was mentioning that i REALLY wanted to hear Wet Sand.. after john\'s scream at the end and during his solo, i had tears in my eyes. that\'s a first for me at a chili peppers show!

once i realized what a great/different show it was, i kept thinking to myself that *something* was gonna go wrong with the recording.. there were about 10 security guards within about 6 feet of us for the entire show, so i thought i was gonna get caught.. i didn\'t, and walked out of the show and to the car without an issue..

i pulled out my iriver in the car, and saw the time at 0:00:00. i didn\'t get anything. it never started recording. :wah::(:(:wah:

i was/am SOOOOO mad at myself.. i\'m hoping someone else got it, but already found one person who recorded the first night but not the second, and another who had recording problems on night 2. :( not looking good.

oh, and fucking god did the mars volta suck balls. played the same damn thing they played night 1, including the 35 minute droning repetitive jam. horrible.

How did I manage to forget Wet Sand in my highlights?
Too bad about the tape.
I\'m making a few calls now.  Maybe I\'ll dig one up by Sat.

definitely the worst of the 5 shows i\'ve seen so far this tour.. really upsetting for them to play almost the exact same show both nights in boston (sans 1 song).. it was even worse for those of us who were at NJ1, because it was EXACTLY the same (except for the short encore).

the band was REALLY late (bad weather). it was announced between TMV and RHCP that RHCP wouldn\'t be going on until 10:15, and they were even gonna be giving refunds.. i didn\'t really understand the announcement of the postponment. it was actually postponed before The Mars Volta (their set started at 8:30 instead of the normal 7:30).. the time between TMV and RHCP was actually pretty close to what it\'s normally been..

also, why the hell is the band late for a show in boston, when their last show was 2 nights ago in new jersey?! yeah, the weather sucked, but it was RAIN. not like there was a blizzard. i just don\'t understand why they didn\'t arrive in boston sooner.

hoping for better tonight..

I was driving to Waste Haven this afternoon in a downpour and I was behind idiots in the fast lane doing 10-15 mph...like there was 6 inches of snow on the road in a blizzard!!! :sigh: Fuckin\' people can\'t drive for shit these days!!!

That totally sucks, Dave.  Sorry.  It does look like the EXACT same show from Oct. 2nd.  What a disappointment!  I am glad I didn\'t tickets to both Boston shows.

Oh,and I didn\'t realize "rain" is a reason to delay a show thats INDOORS.  What a way to end things!  Hopefully tonight will fair better.

feels kinda weird that i won\'t be seeing the chili peppers again any time soon, but this was a great show to go out on. almost exactly the same as NJ2, but look - i\'ve learned that they have basically 2 setlist variations, with a few changes here and there. of the 6 shows i\'ve seen this tour, this was only my 2nd time with this setlist, so i\'m completely fine with it. especially with songs like Hump De Bump, Parallel Universe, and Nobody Weird in there.. not to mention Wet Sand... oh, and Sir Duke in place of the normal London Calling intro to RoT?!:thumbsup:

it was a great run that i won\'t soon forget. looking forward to the announcement of next year\'s dates. it was also great to hit these shows with a LOT of different people - lele, mikeyhelluvahat, paulytizzle, wolfman, jimcobb, holli$, sallyalli, mikeywhatthefunk, and wildcoyote. good times..

Check it out, I\'m in the video for Snow ((Hey Oh)).
I\'m not one of the "featured people", it\'s a crowd shot. Right after the snow starts falling on the crowd I\'m signing along, nodding my head, looking up at what they are dumping on me.

"Hump de Bump" will be the next U.S. single. The next international single will be "Desecration Smile" and the video will be shot in January by Gus Van Sant.

---

The band has commented on the single release, saying "Another exciting thing that is on the horizon for us is that we are going to make a video for the song Hump de Bump, and it is going to be directed by someone we truly admire and respect: the comic genius Chris Rock." This means that the song is going to be the fourth of seven songs released as a single from Stadium Arcadium, most likely within the first few months of early 2007.

apparently they\'re having a contest on youtube for a fan to create the official video for Charlie.

Quote
RHCP WANTS YOU TO MAKE THEIR VIDEO

The RHCP contest to create the official video for "Charlie," from Stadium Arcadium is still going on through video-sharing website YouTube. After seeing so many creative videos for their songs on sites like YouTube, RHCP is looking for fans & up-and-coming directors to create their new video. The winning video will be the "official" video for the song.

The winner of the contest will receive $5,000 and a trip to meet Red Hot Chili Peppers and see them perform live in Paris, France on July 6th! To enter the contest, which runs through April 20th, eligible entrants should visit YouTube or can go here and follow the instructions to upload their video entry. The contest is open to entrants from the United States, UK, Germany, Australia, Canada and Sweden.

1st thing I thought of:

Get a bunch of people together, and brain storm for video ideas and tape that.
The brainstorming session is the video.
Lame drawings.  Ridculous attempts at stunts and what not.  People throwing stuff at each other.  Make a big joke/video of how hard it is to come with something.

Im just the idea man..... i need someone to take that vision and put it into motion.  i have no problem working my balls off to make something work, but lack the motivation and the ability to get others motivated.....  the ability to motivate others is probably the best attribute of any successful person.

Peck, I am sure it has been done, however we do have talented video crafters in our corner, who may or may not be interested in doing something regarding this endeavor......

I guess I would have to listen to the song too.......
