thanks man!

completely unreal performance.
I\'ve been saying that a lot latetly, after shows, I guess. But there was no joking around at all and the tapes will prove it.
Puppetry got super trancy... actually the whole set really displayed The Breakfast flexiing their musical abilities to all spectrums and slaying every moment of it.
Big big big crowd for the set. Started to rain for the Synergy>SyncronicityII>Synergy sandwich and the wind was blowing pretty hard as well during SyncII ... just an epic performance perfect combination of every element.
The band was so deep in the zone its unreal.
The Breakfast threw down so hard ... I mean there were a lot of great bands at the Big Up and I caught most of em but in terms of musical excellence Breakfast vs any other bands...
"many miles away....."
oh yeah, forgotabout..
jam > Tunage, Puppetry, Mayfly Disarray, Existential Funk, Synergy > Synchronicity II > Synergy
Im gonna have to say that was their best 1 set show ever. Maybe best show ever. Listen to the tapes.
-
i asked george to text me the set when i figured it had ended. how can you miss e funk what a st00pid idiot
-
asking a gypsie to send ya a proper setlist post-show= NOOB MISTAKE!!

i had a good time too, but this statement is a bit much.
-
I dunno man,
since Electric Company in February this band has been taking it to the next level. Never seen the Breakfast step up their game consistently from show to show like this. 2011 they are definitely making a ser statement.
It\'s not even a matter of what songs they play. Almost all their songs are monsters anyway. Sure.. no Buquebus, no Mooboos, no Gladys in the set. Didn\'t matter the way they played everything was with such ferocity.
Just the way they\'re playing lately compared to any time I\'ve seen them for the last 10 years or so, it\'s almost like a totally different band. Completely polished and on a serious mission.
-
i\'m used to tuna making grand statements after every show.
-
Looks good, can\'t wait to hear the tapes!
-
I believe him man. I don\'t know why, but I believe him.
-

I\'ve seen some shows.
Hey, where\'s the tape?
-
I had the unique experience of missing the show on friday because i could only attend the big up on saturday. People\'s faces when I asked about the breakfast told the story. Mr. George kept telling me how late i was haha.
Got a chance to kick it with Jordan, he said it was some of the best vibes hes felt playing a breakfast show in a real long time, possibly ever.
Need to get some more breakfast

that a pretty bold statement.
so what happened with Twiddle playing way late and taking away from the Raq set. any stories?
-
Couldn\'t tell you. Pretty sure I fell asleep in a wet chair during that time span.

this is the first i\'ve heard of it, and gotta admit it\'s kinda funny. poor raq plays like 3 shows a year and can\'t get their full set time? priceless.
-
Twiddle ran over like maybe 3 minutes. We were set to start and hit as soon as we could. Raq ran their full set. No one was salty about it.
funny story but mostly false.
-
is it true they spent that 3 minute overrun playing the Duck Tales theme song?
-
yes. And I did say out loud, "we have to wait for THIS?"
-
Now I\'m even more upset about passing out during the Twiddle show.
-
this is the first reason i have ever cared to listen to twiddle
-
I\'ve seen some shows.
Hey, where\'s the tape?
Was it taped? This is just what I need to get me through the work day.. just saying! ;)
3 weeks and counting til Providence!
-
Tape\'s coming, I have a monster multitrack, it takes some time...

the breakfast got among top mentions in this metroland review! nice work! (http://metroland.net/2011/08/03/the-big-up-2/)
-
where does that article mention the breakfast besides listing them amongst the other headlining bands? i\'m confused.

Yeah and all I really got out of it was Indobox does MGMT\'s Time to Pretend also. The nxt time The Breakfast and them play that has to be a band switch.
-

yeah, the article spent more time talking about the farm history and the atmosphere, then really the musicians/bands.
-
At least they were listed as a headlining band.

"The cool thing about this festival is its size. Even though the attendance seemed to have doubled since the previous year, you never felt like you were crowded in the main field area. We took a seat, relaxed, and did some people watching. I love to people watch, especially on the boardwalk. You see some interesting cats, but it’s no match to the sights you see at any festival; whether it’s a random furry, the chick dressed like the girl from the 5th Element, or Waldo, you’re always bound to see something interesting. We continued to chill on the lawn for The Breakfast. After the wobble had worn off, The Breakfast was exactly what the afternoon called for. Led by guitarist Tim Palmieri, The Breakfast is one of the best psychedelic jazz rock bands that I have ever seen. Their sound is filled with a mix of funky jazz, hard rock drums, and mind bending guitar solos. It was the perfect change of pace and gave listeners a brief respite from all the electronic acts that would dominate the evening hours. "
The Big Up 2011: Day 2, Jon Irvin (http://www.musicmarauders.com/2011/08/big-up-2011-day-two.html)
This guy couldn\'t have said it better. The Big Up 2011 was a strange mix of music. Several really talented bands, like The Breakfast, Otis Grove, The Big Sway, Dopapod..
but then a shitload of weird electronic (sometimes borderline unlistenable) shit that went until 6:30AM
IMO it would be a better festival if they cut out the computerized insomiac *****/coke scene garbage and focused more on real bands
And how about music stops at, say, 3:00AM?

there are tons of jamband festivals all the time. this one is unique. and don\'t start with that "real bands" bullshit. just because a guy can noodle doesn\'t make it any more real than a dj
-
Well, I used to DJ when I was a teenager. Made a few bucks mixing up Oakenfold, PVD, Binary Finary, straight up Y2K trance scene shit. I guess I was pretty good because the parties were bumpin\'? But making use of some software and equipment and a big music catalog is one thing.
"Real music", okay
well, if I photocopy this catalog cover sitting in front of me, the photocopy is "real", but I think it\'s a pretty lame reproduction. It doesn\'t take a lot of effort or imagination.
But yeah, real instruments FTW
keep the computers off the stage! :guitar:
.....
I guess, more to the point, I just really can\'t stand the sound of dubstep "whommp whommp" and other strange electronic sounds just don\'t sound like music to me. So I\'d rather not have that blasting in my ear at 6:30AM. I guess next year I\'ll camp a bit further away from the stage.

Biggest regret of this festival....
not setting up my Zoom so I could hear this show again
