Post by: Whineberg on September 23, 2006, 01:14:28 pm
I see that there is a show at the Iron Horse the same night as the Disco BIscuits are playing at the Calvin Theatre. It is on the venue\'s web site. That sounds like a good one two punch!!

first off i\'d like to express my utmost delight at the fact that the bfast will be returning to one of my fav venues ever that happens to be down the street from me.

having that said...It really grinds my gears that they always get booked the same night as another big act of the same scene or someone that overshadows them.  I remember burning spear was at pearl st. one time, and although i can\'t remember who else has been booked the same nights as them it always seems to be someone.  It is obv where i will be on the third of november, but what makes me angry is that i doubt it will be as packed as it was last time, which if anyone remembers was pretty packed, one of the biggest shows i\'ve personnally seen at the iron horse.  The upstairs was opened up and pretty full and they played not one, but two killer sets.  I don\'t want to be too negative, cause i\'m absolutely sure it will be a great show, but at this rate I\'ll never see them play a larger venue in NoHo before i graduate.

I\'m sure no one really cares as much about this as me, but it just sucks cuz i have done my best to flyer the campus and spread word of these guys so that they would once again get the recognition they deserve at Umass.  Its nobody\'s fault really and in a (my) perfect world it would be the bfast playing the calvin and bisco at iron horse.

But hey, fuck it!  I can\'t wait...The reason i fell in love with this venue in the first place was the first time i saw the bfast play my sophmore year and I enjoy every second of every show they play there.  I\'m not sure if i\'ll make it to the freakout so this will be a nice time to pickup Moxie as well as rock my ass off!

^^
I hear you man, I\'d love to see them play the Pearl St. Ballroom by now (Calvin would be cool too hehe)

The way I see it, the old school Northampton/Amherst area Breakfast ---- or, I should probably say Psychedelic Breakfast --- crew is pretty scattered. Shattered and tattered.. but does it matter? I know far too many dudes out here who, upon mention of The Breakfast, are like, "oh yeah they changed their name huh, they still play? wow... people still see their shows??"... and I\'m like, "damn right they still play biatch, in fact they\'re better than ever. You don\'t even know what you\'re missing"

but these kids are asshats. They are under the impression PB is on a slow decline since they played Butterfield and they\'re waaaay too cool to even check out a show these days.

.... of course we know this is bullpucky!

A while back when I realized we have this strange phenomenom of uninterested ex-PB fans around here, I decided the area needs a new rejuvination to the hardcore following.

As for my part, I\'ve been bringing a lot of new faces to shows. Some of these people have only been able to make that 1 show, others thought it was so awesome they come to all the shows they can now..

But we need to go all out for this Northampton show. Lots of heady fliers. Lots of word of mouth. Get \'em there.

But even more importantly, we gotta make sure these kids who show up (and there seem to be a lotta kids a few years younger than me getting into the scene.... last Iron Horse show I met some real cool kids rockin\' it right up front and going crazy for Gladys Pimp!)... we gotta make sure they come back, and back and back for more!

So, give them a little something extra to remember. Make \'em feel a little special. Instead of having the DVDs up on the merch desk, how about some of the regulars/travelers/family/d00ds+d00dettes hand them out to the crowd and make a little of the chit-chat with these college kids. During the show, project the good vibes and energy all around the room.

I know I can have more than enough fun for one person at a Breakfast show... I bet you can too. Lets have so much fuckin\' fun it spills out into the streets!

They were playing the Pearl St. Clubroom for a while in 2002 - 2003, though I don\'t really care for that place.  Too bad they never got to support a larger act in the ballroom.

They were supposed to be upstairs the time they opened for Leftover Salmon, but poor pre-sales for the show moved it downstairs.

How about an early B\'fast show in NoHa or the biscuits just go on at like 9, that would allow me to take in two of my favorite bands.  I love the Breakfast, but the Biscuits are going to win out on this one...Walsh, i got nothing to do Saturday, where\'s my Heady Honda Headspace

My friend went to Iron Horse blues jam last night and I asked him if he saw Breakfast posters up on the door of the venue and he said he was pretty sure there were none.

I would hope somebody has the job of sending these posters to all the venues before shows... ... if, in anyone\'s professional or otherwise opinion its really important to make sure this happens.. send me some files and I\'ll do my best to get them to slap them up. I really don\'t know when I\'m gonna be able to get down to Iron Horse during their open hours this week though...

salmon was THE BEST band of 1997. hands down, no questions asked. after mark died and apt q258 and ty left, it simply wasn\'t los anymore. they should have called it quits then. instead, they added bill mckay and got dull. such a shame!!! :(

Cut Me Some Slack, jam > Taboo Or Not Taboot > Rufus > Moby Dick > Score

at the horse instead of a two setter

i don\'t think it would be that big a deal at the Iron Horse cuz the show ends at like 12 or something ridiculously stupid like that. I think the guys just kick peoples teeth in so hard most folks can\'t handle a 3+ hour assault so they jet. the show last year was packed all the way to the end.

I believe they should just continue to play a 3 hour set, take no break and give people no reason to leave. Make them drop where they stand.

they should try and go on earlier than 10-10:30, maybe 9 o\'clock (where bars permit them to do this).  You don\'t have to play til curfew, but if you do, it\'s a bonus for those who are there.

I agree they should be playing earlier. There is going to come a day and age when even I am not gonna be able to pull these late shows. On weekdays I can\'t to begin with.

And yeah Iron Horse is liable to give everyone the boot as early as midnight, and you probably won\'t get in the doors until 9:58 like Todd said. There has never been a nicer venue with stupidier policies

Pffffft the serness of this would be off the fucking charts......

And as quick as you could picture it, please forget it, because I am sure that it would take too much coordination on behalf of the booking agent and management to make it happen.....

I see the difficulty is that the venue would be losing out on two sets of admissions. If you could guarantee the same amount of money will come through the door there shouldn\'t be any problems, but what, do you double charge everyone? Not gonna happen.

Would be a sick night.

The breakfast will be the main featured article on page 1 of the Arts section of the The Daily Collegian (http://www.dailycollegian.com/) with a full show preview/band history/tour review/cd release info/picture layout for the show on Friday.

There will be a review of the show on this coming monday\'s paper as well.

We did a phone interview with Tim, and are really excited about this piece.  The Daily collegian is the one and only official Umass newspaper, and i assure you that it is read front to back by nearly every single student that attends their classes.  You can read the article (written by my buddy Josh who has seen a couple shows and writes regularly for the paper, with a lil help from me on facts/material) online at the link above, or grab a copy at the show....we will be bringing plenty of issues.

:beerban: Cheers! see ya friday! :beerban:

Aniiiiice job!!!!

Early Show - Psychedelic Breakfast (Jordan plays, only songs predating 2004 are allowed)

because I think it would help to break up the show a little. I went with 04 since that was the name change and drops out ep3, most of moxie, etc. I think it would be cool if they came out and did a nice little deuce era show, give me a little tribal funaffliction, puppetry, cut me some slack, funky bill to end the set, etc. Then come back as the trio and do a \'current\' show - good things, late >over exposure, etc.

Like I said, I can\'t go anyway but it would be a cool bill imo.

ya, i was hoping for a Mooboo\'s sit in at the Toad\'s show maybe a

Queb>Mooboo\'s>Queb>Eppy 3^(inverted- starting with the blues jam)

that being said, do the guys play any other tune inverted besides See the Light. and when was the last time they played a non-inverted STL

not regurally (i think), but i think there was a invertes scheme in RI, maybe a couple others but only played once or twice that way

not to beat a dead horse, because THE WHOLE SONG IS CALLED MAYFLY,

but they have played the "ahoy" SECTION of Mayfly and then gone to the intro as well.

And I am pretty sure that Episode 2 is the only tune left that the Breakfast has not played as a 3 piece.....

I am voting for an Ahoy! opener tonight!

We got there half way through Chase!!! Psygn was a monster!! Adrian was on FIRE all night!! Great times. I was told by Ron that, iho, tonight was better than last night. Not sure if he said that as truth, or just trying to make me feel better about missing last night. COULD NOT believe they let them do an encore!!!! Of course the woman who dislikes life itself was not there...so...
