ok everybody who\'s going to camp is obviously going to catch the breakfast set (if they can wake up at the crack of 2 pm)...but who else are you excited to see? is there anybody that has always wanted to see the biscuits but never has?
my top 5 (non-breakfast) acts at camp:
1. the bays - more than any band there (including breakfast and biscuits), i am excited to see the bays...this late night act will display some of the sickest improvisational electronic music you will ever see (confirmed)...it\'s their first trip ever to the US, and i\'m sure they\'re going to bring it
2. the discooooo biscuits - six biscuits sets at a festival could only be done over a three night span...three sets/night for two straight nights would literally kill many, many people...their camp sets are usually some of the tightest and most creative music they play all year...even if you\'re only going for the breakfast, try to catch a night with the biscuits as well
3. shpongle - though the live act doesn\'t change too much from show to show, simon posford is still something to behold, especially if you\'ve never seen him before...his music (a combination of trance, world beats, druggy samples, and acoustic guitar) will hit you in spots you didn\'t even know you had
4. sound tribe sector 9 - i\'ve seen them twice recently (in philly for jam on the river weekend), and it was a real eye opener. they may not peak like the biscuits (or breakfast) and they don\'t jam as long, but when they\'re playing, you\'re moving...this is some ser sexy music to see live...psychedelics or not. they\'re playing two nights so they get some extra points...one live band set and one live PA set...i\'ve only seen the live band act, but i\'ve heard the live PA is even better
5. girl talk - i don\'t especially like this band (or guy...i\'m not really sure) that much, but i\'m very interested to see how it turns out in a live setting. plus my friend pete will surely be there and he\'ll be all sorts of fucked up while he\'s spouting about philosophy, history and whatever sample girl talk is spinning
what\'s everybody else looking forward to???

Greg is sick live if your just looking to dance and party your ass off.
His first two albums are pretty much shit but Night Ripper is dope and thats more along the lines of what his shows are like. Minimal glitch and static crap and lots of good old fashioned party music.

I\'m going to sell drugs to minors.
-
1. Steely Dan - I heard there is going to be a B\'fast/Steely Dan collab at Camp. Best "Life\'s Been Good" ever...
2. Carrie Underwood - Performing on the Country Stage. She is so hot and I need my American Idol Fix. Hopefully she will sign my balls. (I hope she understands the penis showing game)
3. Dave Matthews Band - This festival really needs a band that can show all the other acts how to jam it out. Plus we need some band to get all the 16 and 17 year old hotties out to Camp! Waiting on a ser Ants Marching or What Would You Say.
4. The Reckoning - Not many people know about this Dead/Phish/Floyd/etc... cover band, but I will tell you this: I went to a show back in 2003 and I am still on their mailing list to this day (despite multiple requests to be taken off). That is dedication for you.
5. Biscuits, Indobox, STS9, the Bays, SLICK RICK!
-
Yeah, um, "Life\'s Been Good" is by Joe Walsh. Don\'t fuck with SD.
-
1. Steely Dan - I heard there is going to be a B\'fast/Steely Dan collab at Camp. Best "Life\'s Been Good" ever...
that actually would be awesome...and i\'m pretty sure walsh would blast off into orbit if it was announced
2. Carrie Underwood - Performing on the Country Stage. She is so hot and I need my American Idol Fix. Hopefully she will sign my balls. (I hope she understands the penis showing game)
don\'t forget to say hi to tony romo for me

what the 15 year old bisco chicks aren\'t enough for you???

No...They are not custie enough for me.

creeps....
anyhoo, i\'ve seen the biscuits twice, had a little fun once, had a lotta fun the second time, still waiting to get my mind blown, so i am quite excited to get the full dose.
never seen sts9, always heard pretty good things
and other than that, i\'ve got an open ear to just about all the other acts, becaues i haven\'t even heard of most of them....
i think i\'ll def be checkin out some slick rick. and face says lyrics born is the illshit so im gonna see him too.
-
Camp Bisco is gonna be a great time, I suggest going and don\'t be a gaf/taint like I and work that weekend. Sad, really.
-
Once afuckinggain "Life\'s Been Good" is by Joe Walsh, NOT Steely Dan.
-
Easy there Chica, nobody likes a know it all...I think if it is bothering you that much you might be spending a little too much time on the message boards.
-
I saw STS9 open a few weeks ago - pretty lame, repetitive stuff. The most exciting part of all their songs is the first 10 seconds. After that, the rest of music is underwhelming regurgitation of the first 10 seconds.
Given some of the other touring bands who achieve an electronic sound, I\'m not sure why they carry as much hype as they do.

i didnt get too much into the biscuits until after i knew enough songs to know what was happening at shows. i\'ve definitely had more than a few of those defining "moments" with the biscuits in the last few years. it\'s a special thing, it\'s only happened with a select few bands (ween, breakfast, phish, pearl jam)!
as far as STS9 goes, well, I don\'t know much of their music but I saw them back in may at Jam on the River (conspirator opened!!!) and the show was outta control. it was really fun to dance to, which doesn\'t always do it for people. this isn\'t the festival to hit if you\'re not a fan of electronic music, methinks.
-
Joe Walsh is rolling in his grave right now.

Joe Walsh is rolling in his grave right now.
 im sure he would be if he were dead... he\'s probably just angrily posting a message board somewhere. . . . ;)

It\'s not bothering me. I just don\'t take any shit when it comes to the Dutch Dildo.
-
so your saying Joe Walsh wrote "Reelin\' In The Years" and Steely Dan wrote "Life\'s Been Good", right?

. . . I, among many, have really been looking forward to this festival since WAY before the breakfast was even considered for the lineup. over the past year I\'ve developed a really huge appreciation for the electronic music scene, and found a TON of great music out there! so before pawning it all off as garbage, maybe you should make an effort to actally listen to some of it. (good jumping point: Shpongle: Nothing Lasts...But Nothing is Lost (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nothing_Lasts...But_Nothing_Is_Lost)... read up on Terence McKenna as well). you might be surprised. if not, well, frankly, don\'t rain on our parade. Camp Bisco = festival of the year baby!

So Terence McKenna is your literary guide to understanding progressive electronic music?
Holy shit, that had the impact of Simpsons season 4-12 on me........ HIGHlarious....
-
So Terence McKenna is your literary guide to understanding progressive electronic music?
my accompanying literature link was merely to suggest that all electronic music is not based on repetitive, droning dribble.... not that Terence McKenna is a fundamental author for understanding progressive electronic music. while your insight is truly groundbreaking boncek, eat a d.
-
Understanding electronica is based on one\'s own ability to "get it" or not. Sure, the repetition may mirror shamanic drumming at times, but in the end the listener must have the ability to open up past that to enter it\'s potential. But yeah Princess, I see that PharmMD is gonna come in handy on Bisco lot.
-
hey now, something constructive from TreyChica! i\'m impressed.
(and it\'s a PharmD, so after May 13th, it\'s Dr. Princess.... thanks)
-
Dr. means dick to me. A doctorate can\'t buy you integrity.
-
Dr. means dick to me. A doctorate can\'t buy you integrity.
since my sole purpose in life is to impress you alone, joe, i am crushed.
my doctorate may not buy integrity but it will buy me a home so i won\'t have to live with my parents after college.
wanna keep this going joe? cuz i\'m pretty bored with you and i have work to do. . .
-
I\'m perfectly content with my path and life. You have no clue. You can fill up your life with all the material possesions in the world, you can pop all the pills you want, but none of that will heal the hell that lies beneath the surface.
Wanna keep going? I just have yoga to do so I have a bunch of free time to waste on a message board...
-
Since it appears that the band will be rolling into Camp Bisco on Friday, I cannot wait to see some Disco Bicuits.......other than them and The Breakfast, I guess I will just check out whatever acts I happen upon with a fully open and expanded mind.........Number 1 Priority Of The Summer.....

that\'s GREAT news! I\'m glad the band will be in town for the majority of the festival. while i don\'t believe there is an official schedule posted yet, i am sure you will catch plenty of great music. heady, gencs, heady.
-
Check out the STS9 PA set. The Bays as Zuke said are pretty rad. They\'re the New Deal of Europe and in protest to record companies release all of their material for free download off their website. Definetly check out the Adam Deitch Project!
-
I am curious about STS9 considering I have not ever seen them......and they played and I think sold out 2 or 3 nights at Red Rocks last year.........
-
Ok, see both sets then. You\'ll be blown away with bliss. I promise.

You really nailed it with that one. That\'s princess, popping pharmies and she identifies herself by what she owns...Get real dude. Have you met her, because that is least accurate description of someone that I have ever read?
Since when is busting your ass to do something with your life, while still being one of the coolest people on the planet a bad thing? I wish I had half of the work ethic that she does. Living with your parents, having very few prospects, and wasting half your day on internet message boards doesn\'t win you any heady points around here, Brah!

The schedule has not been released yet, but from what I understand Friday should be the best night of the festival. I\'m pretty sure we are going to see \'Hallucinogen in Dub\' and \'THE BAYS\' on Friday night. It will truly be a unique concert experience. If you can make it for Friday night, you WILL have your mind blown!
The Bays as Zuke said are pretty rad. They\'re the New Deal of Europe and in protest to record companies release all of their material for free download off their website.
That is an insult to the Bays. They are about 1,000x better than the New Deal...it\'s like comparing Steely Dan to Joe Walsh.
-
Hallucinogen in Dub sounds like a winner. I am sure Ellis and I will be up for that.....
Lookin forward to seeing ya Mr. Nelson.......hope the desert is treating you well......
-
 I, for one, hate the Disco Biscuits and all the other untz crap that will be at this poserfest. I\'ll be at the Vibes this weekend instead, listening to real musicians playing real instruments.
-

yeah because the guys in the Disco Biscuits or play "fake" instruments? I think you should redefine your definition of what an instrument (other than old cockandballs) is.
Robyn, you have posted some insane, closeminded, unfounded, horseshit posts on this board over time, but this one has to take the cake.........this is the biggest festival in the northeast my dear..........
-
please don\'t take it upon yourself to "fix" anything I type. . .
Sheesh...someone woke up on the wrong side of the throne this morning!! I happen to like some of the electronica side of music. I like music from all corners of the earth. I really hope I get to catch Shpongle and STS9.
Just trying to have a little fun...yikes!
That said...zeits se hwee

Now I\'m looking forward to them as well!!! The first time I saw New Deal years ago, I liked them for about 20 minutes. The times after that were just like the first.
-
Well Todd, I guess you can lead a horse to water, but the drink is another matter..........
Cant wait!
-
The Bisuits are going to own some of you this weekend like never before.

-
That was a kneejerk response to the words you stupidly strung together.............i would say it has to be a smilie misuse.......i haven\'t been on the interweb in sometime, so it will take a little time before my sarcasm meter is fully up and running again....

The Bays, you\'ll find, are really quite different from The Same Deal, so you should definitely check it out. While they are both mostly influenced by electronic music and they both "jam," the bays truly put an emphasis on improvisation...not only do they not have a record deal...they don\'t have songs..they don\'t even rehearse...they just get up there every once in a while and play an awesome set
their motto: "the performance is the product"

with this, I\'d imagine that sometimes there set must suck, if they don\'t rehearse or even have songs or anything.

sorry to jump the gun there Todd. just the straw that broke the camel\'s back. it sucks having to constantly defend the validity of electronic music.... prime example:
I, for one, hate the Disco Biscuits and all the other untz crap that will be at this poserfest. I\'ll be at the Vibes this weekend instead, listening to real musicians playing real instruments.
. .. serious or not, that mindset does exist, and it\'s very frustrating to have that closed-minded attitude constantly shadowing music that is legitimately good and requires talented musicians. just because it is not accepted here in the US as "real", it is quite popular in other parts of the world. . . . but i think i\'m just beating a dead horse here.
-
with this, I\'d imagine that sometimes there set must suck, if they don\'t rehearse or even have songs or anything.
nope
I don\'t see how that it possible. Everyone plays a bad set. Do they have other gigs or are they just that good of musicians. Of course, quality is opinionated but I;m just curious how they pull this off.
-

Deemsters brah, deemsters....

already got that response. I want to know how not 1 set sucked. You folks listen to them, tell me how its done. I\'m just curious, I\'m not bashing but to sit here and tell me that band has no label, no songs, and never rehearses, how do they even know the other people are able to play?
I\'m mean, do they have other projects they play on?
-
Of course no one knows if they play a bad set because they RARELY EVER play the US and who knows if they release all of their live performances. There\'s something a little off about their overconfidence and image. I\'m with Spacey. I think they have off nights, but no one hears about it. They\'re trying to market organic perfection. Kudos to a job well done.
-
I personally am intrigued and want to hear a couple of their sets. Who can point me in the right direction or should I just go to Walsh for this? Walsh can usually convince about a band that I know nothing about.

Awsome Bays set:
Very Nice!
IMO one of the best Biscuit segments w/ their new drummer. Very patient and hard-hitting, especially as they end the segment going back into Astronaut. It is an amazing full band moment. It is almost scary good (Trust me you must d/l this):
11-19-06 Fox Theatre - Boulder, CO: Astronaut -> And the Ladies Were the Rest of the Night -> Astronaut
I\'ll try to post more great biscuits stuff later today
-
Thanks brah. Gonna check some of this out.
-
Here is one more great segment. It is from Camp Bisco last year. If you have never heard the song Humuhumunukunukuapua\'a (sp?), the lyrics are a little silly, but the jam out of it and the rest of the segment is amazing. The end of the segment features some great Barber (lead guitar). Enjoy!
8-25-06 Camp Bisco V - Hunter Mtn., NY: Humuhumunukunukuapua\'a -> The Great Abyss -> Spraypaint Victory
-
The lyrics are beautiful and tell of Brownstein\'s psychospiritual journey kicking crack in Hawaii.

I heard from a few peeps that Barber was ripping it up this year and playing great guitar.

Thanks...I\'m here all week.

I\'ll be interested in the UM set (if I do make it). I\'ve only seen em once at toads, and while I wasn\'t exactly owned I did have a good time, and the shows I\'ve heard on disc have some pretty ser moments. I\'m also pumped for Bisco slick rick .
-
just wanted to bump this thread for anyone who hasn\'t checked out some of the Biscuits/Bays stuff that i put up. It\'s more than just your average archive.org recording ;)
-
George, which UM show did you see at Toads? And are we still doing that trade?
-

Walsh never lets me down. I have a true understanding of the Bays which I didn\'t have yesterday.

im interested. thanks .info

The return of the Zerker!
Nice to see that you are still kicking.
-
Anyone know what other bands are playing saturday? still considering going but I cant find a schedule anywhere on the camp website
-
There is no schedule up yet. If you check out the biscuit boards it is pretty funny to see how many threads have been started looking for a schedule.
I\'m guessing they are holding on the schedule b/c the Saturday lineup is not going to be as appealing as the Friday lineup, and since they are selling Saturday only tickets they want to wait as long as possible.
Don\'t get me wrong though, Saturday is still going to be great as is every other night of the festival. Biscuits and Breakfast are going to bring the heat at the very least.
-
damn i thought this thread was going to go without a mention of UM, oh well it was close
but yeah, the bays, sphonglicious, sts9, JUAN MCLEAN, biscuits are going to own all of you, which is good cuz im included in the all of you group, see you there
-
George, which UM show did you see at Toads? And are we still doing that trade?
Yeah still doing the trade, I mailed the discs yesterday sorry it took me so long. This was the UM show I saw. I got in for free cause I was flyering for the freakout. Taint Stench was there.
10/04/06 Toad\'s Place, New Haven, CT
Set I: Nothing Too Fancy> Walletsworth, Get in the Van, Resolution> The Fuzz, Morning Song
Set II: Nemo> Jimmy Stewart> Nemo, Andy\'s Last Beer, Visions of Parin1> Nothing Too Fancy, The Bottom Half, Phil\'s Farm> A Fifth of Beethoven> Phil\'s Farm
Encore: Hangover
1 w/ Jake and Ryan on keys with Joel; with Brendan on percussion
-
Nice. I\'m surprised you didn\'t like that show. It was considered by me and many umphreaks to be the best of that tour. The Vision of Parin> Nothing Too Fancy was too intense to put into words. You should go back and give it another listen.
-
I never said I didn\'t like it, I just said I wasn\'t owned. I think if I was more familiar with their songs at the time, there might have been more ownage occuring. I did have a good time though for sure.
-
Oh, well, that\'s cool. Sorry I misunderstood.
-
^^its all good.

.... post-camp bisco update:
SO GLAD i got to see GIRL TALK. i had downl\'d some of his stuff prior to camp, wasn\'t incredibly impressed (Night Ripper is OK)... but the live show was off the hook... SO FUN! going to probably check him out in Boston next month....
.... also, amon tobin did not disappoint, the set was pretty dark, and a rainstorm was kicking in, so the darkness/cold wind really added to the atmosphere of the set. overall i was pretty impressed!
.... shpongle setbreak=mmmmmmm delicious. you all know how i feel about mr. posford.
bustle in your hedgerow was pretty cool as well. wasn\'t really lookin forward to it but it was a really fun set. Dave Dreiwitz (sp?) from WEEN was representing as well, couldn\'t help but yell "REGGAEJUNKIEJEW" a couple of times. . . .
overall i was really satisfied with the amount of music i was able to see. being camped ~2 minutes from the side stage helped as well. god i love ILCC!

that show is going to be titty bombs...hopefully i can be one of the sexy on-stage dancers at this show
.... also, amon tobin did not disappoint, the set was pretty dark, and a rainstorm was kicking in, so the darkness/cold wind really added to the atmosphere of the set. overall i was pretty impressed!!
incredible set...i\'m so glad i got into one of his albums before camp because i definitely recognized one of the songs and at the time it was mindblowing...the weather was perfect and the fact that just about everybody was at hallucinogen in dub made this one of my favorite acts of the weekend
.... shpongle setbreak=mmmmmmm delicious. you all know how i feel about mr. posford.
a lot of people complained that it was the same set as last year..
a) no it wasn\'t...he definitely played some younger brother stuff
b) you only see him once a year so who gives a fuck what he plays
c) it\'s so fun when he plays who cares what songs they are
bustle in your hedgerow was pretty cool as well. wasn\'t really lookin forward to it but it was a really fun set. Dave Dreiwitz (sp?) from WEEN was representing as well, couldn\'t help but yell "REGGAEJUNKIEJEW" a couple of times. . . .
i wasn\'t there so it couldn\'t have been that good;)
also
i was pleasantly surprised by umphrey\'s mcgee set. i only saw them once before (CBIV) and it was a little disappointing except for "making flippy floppy" (which i didn\'t know was a cover at the time), but they played a good set. i\'ll probably check the set out again some time and if it grabs me i may give them another shot
infected ******** played a great set. i only know one of their albums (i\'m the supervisor), but they played a couple songs i knew so i was pumped about that. i\'m not sure what was fueling me at that point, but their trance is exactly what i needed
both sts9 were awesome...i think i may have enjoyed the PA set more than the real set...i was really getting down to all the hip hop sample stuff they had
orchard lounge\'s "evil" set was probably the biggest momentum killer of the weekend but it had a theme and stuck to it...they definitely conveyed the scary vibe. the "kubrick" set was probably my favorite OL set as far as music goes. the "sexy" set was not as sexy as i was hoping
the juan maclean (featuring the bald guy from infected ********) was aweome although a lot of people were weirded out by it or thought it was too quiet for a late night set. i agree that the volume was too low, but i wasn\'t surprised by the set as i listened to last years set and their cd a bunch in the last year...definitely weird, but a lot of fun
daft rock was a ton of fun, especially if you knew the daft punk songs they were playing...the astronauts smelled pretty bad apparently, but the lead singer was having more fun than anybody else in the crowd and it really helped the vibe
the join featuring tom hamilton and clay from brothers past was good. i actually enjoyed it more than the show from nyc, and i wish i had seen them play for more than 20 minutes
overall i was really satisfied with the amount of music i was able to see. being camped ~2 minutes from the side stage helped as well. god i love ILCC!
ditto. sorry for the huge review...i saw a lot of music last weekend
oh and the biscuits rocked it

i was pleasantly surprised by umphrey\'s mcgee set. i only saw them once before (CBIV) and it was a little disappointing except for "making flippy floppy" (which i didn\'t know was a cover at the time), but they played a good set. i\'ll probably check the set out again some time and if it grabs me i may give them another shot
infected ******** played a great set. i only know one of their albums (i\'m the supervisor), but they played a couple songs i knew so i was pumped about that. i\'m not sure what was fueling me at that point, but their trance is exactly what i needed
both sts9 were awesome...i think i may have enjoyed the PA set more than the real set...i was really getting down to all the hip hop sample stuff they had
a few bands i left out indeed.
wasn\'t a huge Umphrey\'s fan going into the festival; in fact, i failed to see exactly what people went so nuts over. but they brought it to Camp and played a really awesome set. definitely enjoyed them.
infected ******** was pretty cool as well... very industrial-metal sounding at times though... i think i enjoyed their instrumental pieces more than anything with vocals.
i know people aren\'t nuts about STS9 around these parts, but dancin with my crew & tpalms during their set was fun fun fun. . . .
