Most Breakfast fans either do not know the distinct usages of the two or simply do not care to use the appropriate term when necessary. Also problematic is their vs. there vs. they\'re.
I\'m just not sure why so many people fail to use these basic words correctly.

You\'re point is taken Al. Their is a huge problem with grammatical error on this site. Maybe we can add a grammer checker on here.

I can\'t stand when you go into a store or restaurant and they have a sign that says "No shirt, no shoe\'s, no service", the shoes do not belong to anyone. Or something like "Hat\'s - $4", again, no ownership. It contradicts good grammar and is a shame because kids and other people see it and assume it\'s the proper usage, almost enforces it.
I, like others on this board am a victim of the East Haven school system, but hey, I tuned out just fine...kinda, right ???

Grammatical mistakes don\'t mesh well in a professional environment (casual organizations/entities included). Sure they are harmless mistakes online, but many new entrants into the working world do not know how to properly communicate with their coworkers (email) or with external parties such as clients. This becomes a major competitive disadvantage in one\'s career.

I\'ll back Sleeper up on the East Haven school system. We all turned out aight, for the most part. And I honestly think that people no wich term of the multipal usage words they meen to say, but when tiping the fingers go wear they want.
Then again, as I stated, I am a product of the East Haven Ejukayshun Sistum, so what do i no?

I remeber dave emailing something years ago. (pre-board i think) about how when we read, we only look at the first and last letter of the word, so you can change everything around inside and people can still understand it. The whole email was written in that style as well. Kinda like this:
Icnnnoet Hrary
Bkore dwon on the raod
Ndeeed aitssscane blday
Got out to wlak hmoe
He saw smoe lhitgs
Hlep is on the way
The wnid was kckiin\' taht nhigt

i don\'t know why but f-ed up grammar irritates the hell out of me
ESPECIALLY
unnecessary apostrophes EVERYWHERE!!!
I am with you on this: I recently saw some signs in a window for an advertising company promoting "CD\'s". Whose CDs for Zarquod\'s sake?!!
However, the worst misuse of the apostrophe has to be in 1960\'s, 1970\'s etc.
For a very humorous analysis of punctuation, I suggest the following:
"Eats Shoots and Leaves" by Lynne Truss. It was Book of the Year in 2004 over here.

I think the it\'s not a matter of whose cds, but a matter of \'what does the cd possess?\' With an apostophe after the \'d\' I think it implies that the cd has something. The cd\'s __________. The cd\'s crummy pop songs made me nauseous. The cd\'s label has some slutbag on it. Etc.
This is REALLY important. heh.

Maybe it\'s different in the UK and we just stupidized it in America, but this is actually the appropriate grammar. Plural abbreviations and numbers get an apostrophe before the S so there is not confusion as to whether the S is part of the abbreviation or number. i.e. UFO\'s, POW\'s, 1960\'s. The possessive for an abbreviation or number looks exactly the same as the plural, so it is up to the reader to know whether the author intended a possessive or a plural. It\'s usually not hard to figure out.

Alright, so this stuff usually doesn\'t bug me, but it\'s happening way too often here on .info. Since everyone else has a bitching thread in progress, here\'s mine:
“You’re” is always a contraction of “you are.” If you’ve written “you’re,” try substituting “you are.” If it doesn’t work, the word you want is “your.”
"your" is a possessive pronoun, like his, hers, or theirs. It means ownership and usually follows a noun.
My first graders learn this skill in November, so there\'s hope for you too! Some people I\'ve seen who don\'t know this skill include (but are not limited to): freddiewah, Yoda
/rant ;)
