I didn\'t start watching until the 7th.. was shackled by school again until late, got off the train saw it was 7-4, rode my bike home from the station, walked in saw 7-6, ate some hummus/ramen/sugar cookies watched another ridiculous fenway scene with an 8-7 vic.

Only thing that was annoying was the looong interview session after the game on the field. They\'re down 3-2, maybe a quick word with Drew would be alright but the tone and length was way too celebratory. Get over it and move on to Tampa. TV + sports as been getting on my nerves more and more lately. Most announcers sound like fuckheads.
The crickets and the rust-beetles scuttled among the nettles of the sagethicket. "Vamanos amigos," he whispered, and threw the busted leather flintscraw over the loose weave of the saddlecock. And they rode on in the friscalating dusklight.  --Eli Cash

This win was the Baseball Gods doing one of two things:

1. Giving us a sign that the Red Sox are going to win it all

2. Punishing all of the fans who gave up on last night\'s game by having the Red Sox mount an historic comeback, thus ensuring that we watch every out of the team\'s upcoming Game 6 defeat

I hope for the former and fear the latter.

Also, I\'ve seen written a few places that J.D. Drew\'s game-winner (or at least, part of the at-bat) took place five years TO THE MINUTE (12:16 a.m.) after the Aaron Boone walk-0ff.

I suppose that would mean more, in a cosmic sense, if the Red Sox hadn\'t won two World Series in the meantime, but it\'s still pretty cool.

dancin bananas/limes are ballin

sidenote :   New York Yankees pitcher Joba Chamberlain has been arrested for allegedly driving under the influence, speeding and having an open container of alcohol in his vehicle.

Deborah Collins is a spokeswoman for the Nebraska State Patrol.

She says Chamberlain was stopped for speeding on U.S. 77 near his hometown of Lincoln at about 1 a.m. on Saturday.

Collins says Chamberlain was taken to the Cornhusker Place Detox in Lincoln, which she says is the normal protocol.

Actual conversation that took place b/w me and my buddies as Varitek stepped to the plate before hitting the game winning home run:

Me:  Man, we\'d be better off if we had the pitcher hitting.  Remember when Dice-K got that huge RBI hit in Game 3 of the World Series last year?

Buddy 1: You know, I think you can have the DH substitute for anyone in the lineup.

Buddy 2: So wait, you could have the pitcher in the batting lineup and use the DH in place of any position player?

Buddy 1: I think so.  If your pitcher is a better hitter than one of the other fielders, for example the catcher, then you could have the pitcher in the batting lineup and have the DH bat instead of the catcher.

Me: Wow, I never thought of that.  I wonder if anyone ever...

All:  WHOA!  HOME RUN TEK!  WOW! ......

Buddy #1 is correct, the designated hitter can hit for anyone in the lineup. Back when Mariners\' closer J.J. Putz was at Michigan as a catcher, they used to pinch-hit for him and let the pitcher bat.
