Hey guys,
Tim is competing at Guitar Center Tuesday March 8, so come on out to support him if you can. No info on start time yet, I\'m guessing 7 pm similar to Adrian\'s Drum Off.

If it\'s the same as the drum off, I believe it was: order picked at 6:30, start at 7. Anyways....lot scene at 6 :stoned:
-
They said it\'s starts at 6:30. Don\'t know if that means someone is playing or just picking numbers. The weather is not looking good for this kid, especially since I was bringing the kids....
-
I will be calling the GC when I get outta work...
-
Just called guitarcenter and they said it was cancelled until tommorrow, same time. See everyone tommorrow! Safe travels!!!
-
Due to the weather, the Guitar Center has postponed Guitarmageddon until tomorrow March 9th at 7pm
Please pass this along to anyone you know that was planning on going.
Thanks to Todd Anderson with a call from the road on this one. He said Timmy just called him. He is on the way to the hospital because his daughter was rear ended out on the roads this afternoon.... Good vibes and thoughts go out to her, I want to say Tiffany, but I am not sure.....
DRIVE SAFE!

70 degrees and sunny? I guess people would rather be outside in the sun than enjoy monster guitar solos.
Whoops 70 degrees is my forecast. HAHA! Enjoy the snow people.

DUDE! You drive 45 miles to work??? One way??? That\'s crazy! Why not move or find another job?
good money, incredible hours, great opportunities, excellent investment in employees, huge company, stellar perks, employee stock purchase plan, shitty market, and living in staven is MUCH more affordable than living in fairfield county (and the wife works 5 minutes from here)..
i could probably go on... ;)

Till I moved a few weeks ago, my commute to Boston was 60 miles each way.

TGBFBITS>Black Hole Sun>Gravity^>Black Hole Sun>TGBFBITS with^ser gravity jam(1st set)
the other great 1st set jam was the jam in Sunshine Superman....just amazing......
Fresh Cut 1st set closer.....
The wegwich was AMAZING.........
Question
1st time played: CCR\'s Down On The Corner
good night.......
-
so, it is with out question that Timmy tore up the guitar at Guitarmageddon? What are these competitions like? Never been to one.
Do they get to choose what they are going to play or is it a beat dropped and they need to improvise?
-
the contestants pick their backing track....tpalms was the only dude who actually played a few different styles of guitar..all the other competetors, except the black dude who got robbed for second place imo, were heavy metal balls to the wall nonstop shredding...tpalms was the only professional....btw,the 2 very unexpected rockstar jumps last night made me choke on my gum,and nearly die..that wouldve made for a great story..
-
rockstar jumps? by non-rockstars? thats absurd, can only image, must have really sucked to make you choke!
Well, it seems that only Timmy knew how to play guitiar professionally. Nothing against the heavy metal chords but that just don\'t cover it when your up against a machine gun :guitar:
Good Luck to Tim in the rest of Guitarmageddon!
-
Odds on favorite to go all the way in this one! Last night was very weird, not what I expected. Some kids were hitting some bad notes, making lots of mistakes, and not really playing music at all. Tim\'s ditty was really some rippin\' up fusion/jazz kind of stuff vs. mostly heavy metal shredding, e.g. "Pat the Shredder".
-
I have to agree with you on this one Mark. Not being actually at the G.C Guitarmageddon, many of us already know the ability of TPalms and versus what I know about other bands and guitarists in the state, he has to be at the top. He is definately one of the hardest working guitar players I can think of. How many others play 4-5 gigs a week and probably practice 7.
Where was the Guitarmageddon held?
-
Tpalms The Shredder For Life!!!!!!!!!!
-
indeed he is!
-
It was at Guitar Center in Orange. Real nice store.
-
When is the second round??
-
Not This Tuesday,the One After
See Ya There!
Bring Those Discs
Goodnight!
-
It sounds from reading this (I wasn\'t there on Tuesday) that there will not be much competition. If we assume that the Orange Guitar Center is an accurate representation of the entire competition, there will only be a handful of decent players nationwide (with some stores producing none). If that is the case, then Jim Palms will take this one to the house!
-
whats the winner get?
-
whats the winner get?
Scion Box On Wheels....
$2,500 to spend at the guitar center...
and other odds and ends..
-
I bet there will be some really good players at the national level. I mean, there are lots of good unknown musicians around....

Hells yeah. I am excited to see the store finals.... And maybe "hear" the next rounds.....
Timmy is AMAZING, and maybe a rockstar jump is what will tip the scales his way. I mean come on, there cant be a goofier AND nastier guitarist out there....
-
I bet there will be some really good players at the national level. I mean, there are lots of good unknown musicians around....
oh i\'m sure.. it was just surprising to see the complete lack of good players last week. while the competition at the store level of the drum-off wasn\'t anything too intense, it was definitely better than what we saw last week..
but this is only one store in one town.. i\'m sure it\'ll get better as we go on..
-
bump for tonight..

7:00 start again??
-
yep

If I had a calender, this date would def. be marked off.. TPalms has this shit in the bag...

Go Timmy!!!!
btw, loved the lounge shread metal!

whammy bar aaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhh, hahahahhahaha

how do they run this competition? they got a band playing behind em or what? do they choose what songs to play? etc.???????
-
how do they run this competition? they got a band playing behind em or what? do they choose what songs to play? etc.???????
there\'s a cd with like 20 backing tracks of all different genres, and the contestants pick their track out ahead of time. i\'ve recorded both of these so far, and when it\'s all over, you\'ll be able to hear the whole thing..
-
Tim was great last night, not even close. The judging worries me though. The kid who got second wasn\'t even in the running in my book. Apparently, playing with your teeth, behind your back, and sticking the neck of the guitar right in the judge\'s face scores points. I was deducting points for the stupidity of it.

Apparently they have a special category for no shame.
-
the kid definitely got points for tricks.. i didn\'t think he was very good, but he was decent, came off the stage and walked around a little bit, played behind his head (which tim could and definitely *should* do in the next round), and played with his teeth. tricks are good, especially when you can pull them off..
but i thought 2nd place should have gone to the guy who played the same tune as tim.. he was good..
the Kirk Hammet playing Carlos Santana was just hilarious though.. when that tune ever started up, i thought for sure the guy had the wrong track on the cd. :) i was impressed just by the fact that he was playing a different genre than i expected to see him playing, but his dirty metal tone didn\'t go with the latin music AT ALL.
-
That tone had about the same effect as nails on a chalkboard! EEEK! I agree with your vote for 2nd place. I actually enjoyed his jazzy style and tone quite a bit.
-
Congrats to Tim, who was clearly deserving of the victory. He gave a mix of everything whereas the other guys stuck to their one theme. Heads and shoulders...
-
I agree with your vote for 2nd place. I actually enjoyed his jazzy style and tone quite a bit.
yeah.. i thought tone-wise, he was quite similar to tim..
-
Hey I just noticed that Glenn Roth is listed as the opener at Porters. If I\'m not mistaken, he is that guy.
-
woah! yeah, that\'s him...
-
the Glenn Roth?
-
Is there any chance that future Guitarmageddon dates (regional finals, Northeast finals, nationals) may coincide with the Real Radio tour?
-
Is there any chance that future Guitarmageddon dates (regional finals, Northeast finals, nationals) may coincide with the Real Radio tour?
Now you\'re asking for A LOT!!!!! ;)
-
Check it out, he\'s a Horizon guy:
Glenn Roth (http://www.glennroth.com/)
-
Now I remember this guy. I\'ve seen his band, Fountain Project a couple times. Pretty good stuff!! Looking forward to hearing his solo acoustic on Friday!
-
I know Gleen from way back in college around 94-95. If any of you remember Big Kennedy apartments at Southern, I spent many nights in there getting drunk and listening to Glenn play. He\'s a great guy too. Can\'t wait check out what he\'s been doing lately. See everybody tommorow.
-
I\'m on Glenny Tour. Confirmed.
Actually I\'m really looking forward to seeing him play. He was great in the contest, maybe a little jamming with the boys is in order???
-
that would be nice. any extra special appearances are nice. Glenn can truelly play a nasty acoustic, I too am looking forward to his set!
-
So who\'s headed for the Districts in Natick? seems to be only 40-50 minutes from here, so if by tuesday I somehow manage to turn my one dollar bill that i have in my pocket to a somewhat full tank of liquid gold, I\'m gonna take the trip. Whats the format like anyway, how long does tim play?
-
ant, i\'ll be there.. the whole thing probably won\'t be more than 45-60 minutes total.. everyone gets 3-5 minutes to play along with a backing track which they select beforehand.
california pizza kitchen pregame (or maybe post) = confirmed.
-
bump for tonight!
details on the calendar..
-
california pizza kitchen pregame (or maybe post) = confirmed.
Any chicken on the menu?
-
:finger:
-
What IS with all of these "pizza" places that also sell chicken wings? :yack:
-
you know.... there\'s a twinkee factory in natick.
-
you know.... there\'s a twinkee factory in natick.
I believe that it is New Quahog now...
-
What IS with all of these "pizza" places that also sell chicken wings? :yack:
in their defense, i don\'t really consider CPK \'pizza\'.. more like \'flatbreads\'.. and they\'re damn good..
-
Good Luck Timmy.....
-
Cripes I should probably go tonight- it must be sorta close to me. Or I could go see Project Object again....
-
No good on this end, totally forgot I have to work 7-midnight, and considering I have a quarter tank of liquid platinum and one single paper dollar to my name it probably wouldnt be a good idea calling AAA for a 50 mile tow because I ran out of gas, heh. See ya Saturday (knock on wood)
-
but, from what i understand, some shady buisness went down.
-
there\'s no business like shady business.
-
the kid who won had tons of family and friends with him
guarantees from boston...
-
bullshit! was he any good?
-
but, from what i understand, some shady buisness went down.
You forgot to ask: Are you Ser?
-
So basically it came down to crowd support/noise influencing the judges instead of the guitar playing. . . Or since this is their "Boston" store, the judges simply knew the kid. . .
-
holy shit check out the beard.
you guys gotta talk to peck.
all i got was teh final answer
-
What the heck is that all about, he is the best out there what a scam. wish I had gone to support but i had to work. Sucks ass.
-
but, from what i understand, some shady buisness went down.
It seems there would have to be

That Is Fucked Up>>timmy Is The Best Guitar Player That Ever Lived>>>i Will Personally Fight Those Judges>>>pure Bullshit>>>aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
-
<<<<<<<<<< awaiting the play by play..
-
damn shame!
he is only human, maybe, timmy had a bad day or was tired, possibly threw the competition so he could no worry about dates coinciding with dates.
probably not...
It\'s a damn shame!
-
I Guess He Played Ser..
-
tim palmieri is not human
he is a golden god
i want a rematch
-
ser....
-
Tim was probably disqualified when they found out he was not a mere mortal guitar player. This was a contest of humans not gods.
-
i still want to find the judges........................................................:badnews:
-
just got back.there were some amazing guitarists..some faster than tim but not as mixed as he was. He deffinatley was not that happy but his performance was i think more interesting than the winner.the winner..Andrew \'J\' had the crowd though, and was familiar around the place, so they may have hooked up the local boy. lots of fast guitar licks all around and i was blown away a few times with what i heard. Tim chose some funk groove that he did some original playing over, and people were deffinatley lookin around and talkin him up. He tore shit up as usual
one of the judges was some big guitarist from the 80\'s (geoff hoey) who did Hocus Pocus, i had no idea who he was really but tim said he used to listen to him religiously at one point..
had it gone into a tie breaker, where its just guitarists solo, forget about it
-
last night was absolutely the biggest crock of shit i\'ve ever seen. really, nothing more than a complete waste of everyone\'s time. this thing was so clearly fixed, it was disgusting.
there were 9 players in all. tim drew 4th. the competition was very good - much better than adrian saw at the drum-off district finals. the players brought a variety of styles to the table.. i thought tim\'s solo was very good, though i could tell he was nervous.. it wasn\'t the best tim solo you\'ll hear, but looking at it from the point of someone who had never seen tim play before, i think you\'d be floored.
other than tim, there were two standouts - the #2 and #3 players. #2 was thirty-something, and reminded me of tim in a lot of ways - very fast and technical, fingers ALL over the place.. really tore it up. #3 was a Berkley student, who has only been playing for 6 years. you\'d never know it though, this kid was GOOD. very impressive.
i think #2 \'scared\' me the most. as each player finished playing, i\'d say to myself \'ok, it\'s still between tim and #2\'..
rewind to the beginning of the show for a minute. before the competition started, they had a \'guest\' playing - a local guitarist who called himself \'the one-man orchestra\' or something like that.. he had this big rig with him, and he had all kinds of stuff (sequencers, etc) hooked up to his guitar, so he could basically play every instrument with his guitar. it was more novelty than anything - he wasn\'t very good. he played \'runnin down a dream\', sandwiched around a bunch of jams. apparently he\'s popular in the area, and is a \'guest\' every year at the district finals in Natick.
the guitarist who was representing the Natick store was young (19), and had a good 30-40 people with him.. he drew a late number (8). he was noticably \'tight\' with the one-man orchestra, sitting next to his roadie and chatting it up while he watched the other competitors..
the kid was VERY animated. i was watching him while the other competitors played, and looking at his reactions. after #2, #3, and tim, the kid kept throwing his head down and shaking it, like \'there\'s no way i\'m gonna win - they\'re clearly better than me\'.. kept getting up and pacing, like he was really nervous..
he played his solo in the 8th slot, and was good, but nothing special. definitely didn\'t do anything out of the ordinary, and was NOT better then #2, #3, or tim.. so when the last guy finished, i still had it between tim and #2.
they broke while the judges made their decision, and then called everyone back up to the stage. they announced everyone again, and then the winner, "it\'s actually #8 - Andrew J". at that moment, me, mike, joe, adrian, aruny, and dobs all had the exact same look on our faces. stunned. followed by \'BULLSHIT!\', etc... there is no way in HELL this kid deserved to win..
but as we were talking afterwards, everything started to come together. adrian was talking to the guy who MC\'d the drum-off in Natick, and he was saying how their \'friend\' was in the competition - this was his 6th year, and he \'usually wins the district\'. hmm. apparently the kid also walked by tim while the judges were making up their minds, and nervously said \'oooh, i overheard the judges saying there\'s a tie for first\'... then thinking back to how animated this kid was earlier in the evening, and i\'m convinced that it was completely FAKE. he knew he was winning. period.
so yeah, definitely a complete waste of time. i really feel bad for all the guitarists who actually had to drive a ways to get to this thing, for no good reason. i\'m tempted to go to the regionals in NYC just to see this kid FAIL miserably. ugh.
so that sucked.
-
oh yeah, i\'ll be putting up some pictures in a bit, and i\'m gonna get the recording up tonight so you can see for yourselves how much BULLSHIT this actually was.
-
pics up in the gallery (http://www.thebreakfast.info/photopost/showgallery.php?cat=582). thanks to mike for manning the camera while i ran the hat. :D
-
the fix was definitely on. confirmed.
The kid that won walked around after each contestant played chatting up with his numerous buddies how nasty that guitar player was. He made sure to stop in front of us after Timmy played. Clearly an act, but....what are ya gonna do.
I thought it came down to Timmy and the kid that played in the #3 spot. He was nasty!!!
Timmy did get the hook-up with gary hoey. Hopefully that will work out for something....
The Breakfast will continue on to great things and the kid that won can continue to fix meaningless (when he loses in the regionals) guitar competitions, wasting his and all his friends\' time....
-
One Big Crock of Shit.....
-
That really sucks guys. I didn\'t want to post this beforehand because it\'d be a buzzkill, but I guess I can say it now: Every musical competition there ever was is fixed. The best player or band NEVER wins. It\'s about who the judges\' boy is, and there\'s always a judges\' boy, every time. If there are lots of rounds, such as this competition, then it might be legitimate for a round or two where nothing of any significance is at stake but that\'s it. It doesn\'t make it fair, but you have to approach these things with a big grain of salt and really can\'t get too upset over them. You have to go in assuming that it\'s fixed and expecting to lose. Then you can laugh at it on the way out as just another stupid fixed music competition, and forget about it by the next day. If you go in under the mistaken notion that the best player will win and that you have a chance to be the best player, you will only come out disappointed.
-
The best player or band NEVER wins.
OK, well the exception is the rare scenario when the judges\' boy happens to be the best band. The only time I\'ve ever seen this happen was the 1997 WBCN Battle of the High School Bands when Addison Groove Project won. They blew everyone else off the stage.
-
Anyone know the name of Contestant #8?
i would like to harass him a little.
-
Anyone know the name of Contestant #8?

::yeah that::
and davepeck, any idea where those recordings are from this guitarmagedden?
-
yes, i know exactly where they are.
-
yikes. umm, can you please point me in the right direction? please?
-
my guess is they\'re locked away amongst other DPeck shit that has not been given the green light.
