The Breakfast regrets to announce that due to circumstances beyond their control, tonight\'s show in St. Louis had been cancelled. The band apologizes for any inconvenience.
-
theres a snow storm in St Louis???
-
Crap and I had some friends heading there too.
-
Uhoh this can\'t be good. Robbed? Car trouble? Shingles? WHAT NOW?!?!?!?!
-
Im sure everything is fine...
-
the band is fine.
no further information is available at this time.
-
[MAD]Reason?[/MAD]
Should have known. This is not looking good so far. The show at the other venue changed to this venue and now has been cancelled! :thumbsdow:
-
the tour will continue tomorrow night in Lawrence, KS.
-
I say boycott St. Louis from here on out.
-
the band is fine.
:spin: thats good to know.
i was afraid bezerker got kicked out of the van somewhere between iowa city and st louis and then the band decided to call it quits because they realized they couldnt get by without him. :P
-
I say boycott St. Louis from here on out.
That would be a mistake. I am sure it is just a matter of timing and the next show scheduled there will happen and be a good one.
-
Well I thought things were looking good and welcoming with this message from the venue:
We are moving the tables out for this one, don\'t miss this Weds Night Dance Party!
Only $5 (100% goes to the band, so please help support these guys on their tour)
-
This band deserves nasty dollaz!!!

I know, brah, I was simply breaking stones...

-
d\'oh! thanks ant!
-
I heard it was canceled because the merch guy COUGHgavinCOUGH jumped out of the van.
-
aw shit....im from st louis and i called every single chill person i knew. i called my friends at K.U. so hopefully stl will represent tomarrow night. total bummer.............
-
I got a few messages on the myspace board that made it seem like the band backed out because they didn\'t like the venue or something. A couple of the people who were going to this show seemed really, really, really pissed at the band.
Does anyone from St.Louis know anything about the venue?
-
well.... this doesnt sound too good. was there a bad weather or something. I would be pissed off too if the band back out of a gig, especially if I had been planning to go for months so I can sort of sympathize with those people. hopefully the breakfast will stop in st. louis before heading back to CT.

Im sure if that was the case that it was justified

I went down to the venue last night to tape The Breakfast. I chatted with the owner of the bar at length. He stated the band showed up in the afternoon and deemed the bar not worth playing. He said they left without explicitly stating that the show was cancelled - just bailed...
It is a tiny room. Maybe 100-150 people max. No elevated stage, just a corner set up with a small PA. Still, there were people who wanted some Breakfast and left with a bad taste.
I\'d like to hear from the band... always good to get both sides.
-
I\'ve seen the guys play some really shitty venues on tour, places they def DID NOT want to play, but they do anyway, so until I hear from one of the 7 people in that van I\'m calling the shenanigans police on this one
-

I hate to say it but I heard from numerous sources that backs what ScottT just stated. I too would like to hear what had happened through the bands eyes. Because as Chris said they have played in shitty places, so this place had to have some feeling to it that made them decide "unworthy"
-
no comment
-
Having seen this guys play THE DYING ROOM several times, I\'d like to think it had something to do with inadequate space and/or inadequate power for sound.
Without jumping to conclusions (since I don\'t KNOW what happened), I can state that it would be a bullshit, bad business decision if the band bailed just because the place was a dive.
-
Just when you think things for the band are turning around something like this happens.
Its like they go out of their way to shoot themselves in the foot. They have played some really shitty places before so this place would have to be on the verge of collapsing and catching on fire for them not to play IMHO.
This is why the band needs a tour manager. Someone who can crack the whip when the start acting like a bunch of girls.
really sad.
-
I have full faith that the band wouldn\'t travel so long/far without wanting to play at each & every venue. I\'m sure this decision was made for appropriate reasons, and not some dumb reason like they just wanted to chill (or go find Gavin back in Iowa...;) )
-

-
the winner of the tourney challenge becomes the new manager?
-
thanks for nothing last night.
-angry fan
-
I hear you.
First off I have been talking this up for weeks and got several friends to go. Then the venue changed so I had to scramble to make sure they all knew about that. Then last night I am on the phone calling them all, and was not able to reach everyone, so they probably went for nothing.
Sad thing is, they probably won\'t listen to me next time.
-
thanks for nothing last night.

:moo:
hit up tonite
-
Its not feasible to drive all the way out to KS for a show.
-
just a though, as I have no idea what transpired yesterday. But I\'m thinking this is a good idea to call off the/any show despite the venue. In an earlier post the venue said that the door charge was $5 with all proceeds going to the band. Maybe the band was unaware of this, and thought they were getting paid a set rate to play, but it turned out that the $5 a head was what they were playing for. That said, yea, its a dick move to turn down a gig because of money, but I woulda probably done the same thing if I thought I was getting paid $A amount of dollars per a contract (I know nothing of how this stuff works for the record) and it turned out I was getting paid $B amount of dollars where B is directly related to how many people paid at the door. Just my $.02
-
thanks for nothing last night.

zoinks!!
-
It should never be about the money. It should be about the love of the music. When it becomes about the money then all is lost.
With that being said, lets use the doozie figures from the night before, 26 people paid times $5 is $130. Not that great but it is better than nothing. However, the effort it takes to load and unload might not have been worth it.
-
lest we all forget this is a BUSINESS, yes we all have a great time and it\'s nice to dilude ourselves and think it\'s all about the vibe and what not, but these cats are in this to make a living. And all decisions are business decisions.............

Very true, my friend. But $130 isn\'t even enough to get to the next show. While I agree with the never be about money part, these guys aren\'t what you would call wealthy though. Yea $130 will put gas in the van, but like you said, the physical effort to load/unload/play isn\'t worth the hassle, in my opinion. Like I said, I speculated, and am probably completely off. None of us will know until we hear it from someone\'s mouth who is in the van.
-
if it was about money, something is better than nothing, especially if they were already in town. They have played for less people in STL at Ciceros, heck the band even crashed at my house back when they came through. Was super pumped to see them on the way back through STL when bam show is cancelled.
-

business can\'t grow on poor business decisions (see George Bush\'s prior business record)
-
The club owner explicitly told me that there was a guaranteed fee for the band last night. Cash from the door would have been gravy on top.
Again - I want to reiterate that I\'ve only heard one side of the story. I taped the band last summer (10klf) and afterwards spoke with Tim and the soundguy (blanking on his name - sorry!). Everyone seemed really cool and into it for thr music. I\'m curious to know their motivation to skip a paying gig, esp. the 2nd night of a long tour. You\'d think they could use every cent to get down the road. It was certainly a let-down to their fans. I fluffed this show to a lot of people, and got the local independent radio station to plug the gig and play some Breakfast on the air....
-

All I am saying is this is a chance for you to gain fans. With the current fanbase at its present size, I\'d be doing anything I could to get fans. So, $130 isn\'t much, but now you drove to St. Louis only to leave empty-handed. Yesterday, we fucking applauded a doozie, and said it was an opportunity to gain fans, now today we support the cancellation of a show.
The venue would need to have a foot of horse manure to make me leave. Your life for the next month was to live in a van, live on the road and what the road gave back to you.
You reap what you sow.
-
the show must go on.
hopefully there is a good reason for this. hell, i\'d even give it up to a serious case of the squirts. but at this point, with folks trying to pull friends to shows from afar, playing for a couple of folks for no money is better than pissing off folks and ensuring a bad vibe about themselves the next time through. you\'re on tour. suck it up and remember, the show must go on. i had an irritated phone message from my friend in stl this morning, myself.
-

agreed I\'m just assuming there were good reasons, and it was a good business decision, and was made for the right reasons, cause it looks like some people are PISSED!!

All it takes is one let down fan to give you a bad name.

Well, like JKing said, I\'d personally give in for a severe case of the squirts. I just hope it wasn\'t because they didn\'t "like" the venue. The previous line-ups in the past have many bands that are at the same stage of the game as the breakfast, so the decision has to carry some merit.
The old addage is that "bad news spreads faster than good news"
-
no such thing as bad publicity?
-
touché, my good man, touché
-
Oh my!!
I really hope they\'re covering up for someone\'s squirts....
If not....
Wow, just wow!! I really hope we get to the bottom of this so we can explain the band\'s position rationally to these awfully nice St. Louis peeps. I\'m sorry St. Louis guys, I know what it feels like to look forward to something and then have it not happen. This one Christmas my son Bart snuck downstairs early to open his present. He hastily played with a fire truck that caused an electrical fire, burning the tree and presents. Christmas was ruined and I never got my sausages.
-
still waiting on the band to chime in here.
-
And all decisions are business decisions.............
i cant believe i am reading people defending this. NO VENUE is too bad for the band at this point. this is a terrible move for the band if they deemed the place "not suitable for the breakfast"
this is exactly the reason they need a tour manager, not the bass player being the tour manager.
and you cant ell me it was becuase no one was there. teh show in Jersey not long ago had fuckin 5people there. and they threw it the fuck down. real radio 2nd set.
i hate reading shit like this. i would hope by now people know the real story as to what happened. eitherway, they are there, they should play. at least let all the fans know why you are cancelling a gig.
-
no till they get back prob
-
I really think there should be a cell phone call placed to the band at this point.
-
Have some faith guys! The guy said there was a tiny PA so maybe the venue could not power the band. We all know these dudes have played poor places and for little money. We dont know the details but im sure that it was justified.
phishermanjohn, thats really awesome that you did all that grassroots work for the band. Im sorry you got let down and I hope that the boys make it up to you :(
-
they should go back and play 3 shows in one day to make it up to everyone there. ;)
as far as the PA issue. i would think when booking a venue, you would see what PA they run and make sure it will be enough to power a band before swending them all the way out there....
-
this makes me sad. especially after going to a show last night where the band was so very mediocre yet pulled a large crowd. things like this don\'t help. knowing the places the band has played though, and putting their hearts and souls into playing for 5 people, i tend to think there\'s gotta be a good explanation? maybe they didn\'t want to set another pa on fire?
anyway i think an official announcement is in order here, like, pronto. a lack of one is irresponsible imo.
-
The bar has live music all the time - several nights per week. They have a 16 channel snake that runs from the stage to the back. You can run a soundboard out of the way back there to achieve a decent mix.
-
From the band: there was no sound system, no lights, no stage, smaller and would be similar if not worse than having to play back at Rudys. It is nice to feel good and leave a show with some confidence and energy for the next one and makes traveling in a van a lot more enjoyable. doozies kill the mood of the tour and would have been a huge frustration factor. I guess they went and actually practiced/ went over some new songs they want to play in the next few shows and made a productive night out of it. good for them.
-
thanks for the update. how can that be though since scottt said bands play there frequently?
-
not sure. sounded like they all sat in the van for a few minutes after takin one look at the place and all were in agreement that it wasnt happening
-
wow, bummer.
-
fwiw, that\'s kinda the mentality that took over ancient harmony. and look where they are now. :(
that being said, i know its hard as hell out on the road, so i wish them the very best. and at least it was a somewhat productive night. but hopefully that owner doesn\'t talk to any other stl bar owners and hopefully the folks who intended to see a show don\'t talk to anyone, either. one bad thing gets talked abut to ten folks, after all.
-
I did mention before that there is no "stage" - at least nothing elevated. It\'s just one corner of the bar where the bands set up. There were a couple mic stands, and the PA. The speaker on stage right was suspended from the ceiling, but the one on stage left was sitting on the floor. There was definitely nothing resembling stage lights! I didn\'t see a house mixing board (it could have been put away) and don\'t know if the band travels with their own. Wish I had snapped a picture... The place is only two miles from my office here and they open in 90 minutes. Hmmmmm....
It\'s really too bad the band opted to skip the gig. I still had a good time hanging out at the bar with friends, but I had been looking forward to this show for a long time and put forth a lot of effort to drum up interest... They owe me one 8^)
And actually there was music played last night. When it became apparent that The Breakfast was indeed not returning, two members of local favorites Madahoochi did a set as an acoustic duo. They did not play unamplified. It actually took a while to get them set up. I gotta plug the band because they are really good musicians, and good folks (and the keyboard player is way too cute!). Some of you who attended 10,000 Lakes Festival last year might have caught them...
Check out this set I recorded when they opened for Lotus back in January:
http://www.archive.org/audio/etree-details-db.php?id=33398
Their most recent studio album is solid too!

Ancient Harmony? They used to be my favorite band before I saw the Breakfast. AH got way burned out by overextending themselves on tour and eventually broke up. They did not play at all for 3 years until finally they did New Years 05-06 in Atlanta.
As for the PA system excuse: I saw the Breakfast play in Aiken SC with the worst PA system I ever saw in my life, so bad they couldn\'t even do vocals, but they went ahead and played a mostly instrumental show.
-
i love ancient harmony more than most people should love any band. i was at their last gig in 03 and their next this past nye. in fact, had they not self destructed, they had a gig *with* the breakfast about a week later.
and you\'re right, its not a direct relation to what happened in stl, but the mindset is pretty close.
where are you from, origen? any chance we would have met at any ah shows?
edited to add~ ah is in the studio right now, working on a new album with a few dates to follow!
-
Im sorry you got let down and I hope that the boys make it up to you :(
Who are you, the new publicist? ;)
-
Did the band tell the owner/booker/promoter, anyone that they were leaving and not playing the gig? or did they just take off?
I hope they showed some professionalism.
-

You know what? Next time you talk to the band tell them to never come back to St. Louis, ever. What a bunch of pretentious assholes. They not only just dissed one of the most intimate venues in st. louis, a nice production company, The Loyal Family(You might know them with their involvement in getting a ton of up and coming bands into the Wakarusa festival), but they also dissed their fans because they are too cool for the venue. Screw that! I\'ve never seen or heard of band pull such a lame move. What a joke!
Maybe if their new booking agent who they are SOOOO proud of wasn\'t a dumbass they would have known to bring their own PA and lights? If they are too big for that, then why did their dumbass booking agent book them at Pop\'s Blue Moon without knowing the full details?
All this shows is that The Breakfast has no class. I\'ve seen much better bands play in bigger rooms to only 5 people. They could have cancelled the gig and practiced at their buddy\'s house, but NO, they played for the people who truly enjoy their music. It\'s called....appreciating your fans. Obviously The Breakfast knows nothing about that and doesn\'t care for their fans in St. Louis. I was actually thinking about going to the show. A friend of mine said their guitar player is great and pretty much the reason to check out the band. Well, now i\'m never going to see The Breakfast ever and I\'m telling all my friends that this band has no class, there another run of the mill jamband with a guitarist who sounds just like Trey did in 91, and to never give them one cent of their money.
To all members of The Breakfast: keep practicing.
edit: don\'t give me any crap about this venue change either. Bands have to bring their own PA to the Venice Cafe\'(original venue) as well.
-

Not according to the owner of the bar.
I showed up a little after 8pm (9:30 show). He said that he thought the band had bailed since no gear was ever set up, but added that there was a slim possibility they had left to get a bite to eat or something. Technically they had time to return and set up at the last minute. He felt bad that I had dragged all my recording gear out for nothing so he bought me and my buddy a round on the house. Rogue\'s Dead Guy Ale is a mighty tasty beer!
-
you are well within your right to be pissed about the unprofessional decision they made to ditch a gig, but you can\'t say they\'re not talented musicians.
-
They originially were scheduled to play at The Venice Cafe last night but the show was switched to Pop\'s Blue Moon.
-
I hope they showed some professionalism.
I love the band, but this circumstance doesn\'t sound very professional. No stage, crappy sound, potentially little money: still better than no money and blowing off fans/new fans. They are on the road to capture the hearts of people in cities they rarely visit. They used to play in The Meadows parking lot during Phish shows to garner new fans and there was no stage/lights/sound/money for those gigs.
-
My understanding is that the Jazz Haus in Lawrence tonight is not a better venue than Pop\'s is.

that show has been scheduled to be at pop\'s since Feb 23 as far as I know? From a local STL music website:
hu Feb 23, 2006 9:43 am Post subject: The Breakfast @ Pop\'s Blue Moon Wed 3/8 $3 cover
Lame excuse.
-
there are a lot of run of the mill bands that have talented musicians.
what separates good bands from bad ones is the songs....not how much the guitar player can shred a sweet solo.
-
you are well within your right to be pissed about the unprofessional decision they made to ditch a gig, but you can\'t say they\'re not talented musicians.
I would never say they aren\'t talented musicians. I\'ve only seen them once, but they blew me away! I\'ve dl\'ed several recordings from archive.org and have a Tim solo acoustic show that never leaves my car.
It\'s very disappointing to expect another "peak" musical experience and have it cancelled at the last minute for what appears to be petty complaints and possibly damaging to their fanbase...

true, but these guys have been busting out some pretty good compositions as of late. i understand that you are very pissed. i\'m not too happy about the situation and i\'m in new york, but they are definitly doing very good musical things recently.

I can pull out the master gig list from the 7th of February that has them Venice and for one reason or another it was changed around the 23rd to Pop\'s. Which should have been ample enough time to make all changes needed.

The Breakfast has no class. I don\'t care how good they might be. I will never ever see them or recomend them to anyone i know.
-
thats too bad. this is why their decision was really poor form... i will not back them up on this decision.
-
I\'d like to know what management has to say about this. It had been dubbed the best tour yet, that was planned.
Let\'s see in 2 days, 1 doozie and a cancellation.
Great start.
-
i was hoping to hear from vic already...
-
The Breakfast has no class. I don\'t care how good they might be. I will never ever see them or recomend them to anyone i know.
I don\'t even think most loyal fans are backing this decision (given the information we have), though this situation really isn\'t a good reflection of the band we know (and love). I first saw them in 1999, and they have delivered nothing but great shows and vibes ever since then. That\'s why this cancellation doesn\'t bode well, as it doesn\'t provide a good indication of who they really are. They are a great bunch of guys with extraordinary musical talents (even when a crowd is limited to only a few people).
My first impression was quite the opposite of yours (I stumbled into the show, having never heard a jamband and they basically turned my musical world upside down), and while it may be tough to bring yourself back to the Breakfast table, I urge you to give it a second go.

Just to clarify. You said in your long rant you were thinking about going to the show. Does that mean that you didn\'t bother to go ? and if so why such a hard on to come off as the biggest hater ?
I think it was stupid for them to cancel a show at the last minute and even dumber if they did it in an unprofessional manner.
However having said that. for you to come here and say the band has no class is just stupid and ignorant. You say you have never seen them but then go on and on to trash them, I can understand people being pissed but you sir are way out of line
-
go fuck your mother!!!
Are the fans a reflection of the band, or vice versa?
The Breakfast better try the I-80 Iowa/Nebraska route next time....at least there are even fewer people up there for them to alienate.

You know reading all this and seeing all the people signing up to trash the band simply shows there must be nothing to do in ST Louis. I mean geez folks they cancelled a show and might have done it for poor reasons but it isnt like they fucked your sister and threw shit on your house.
God what a bunch of fucking whiners.
Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa. A band cancelled a show at the last minute. I hate them give me a break.
-
this seems so unbreakfast like...at this point i\'m more inclined to hope that this is all just an elaborate hoax.
-
Fred, don\'t. He has a right to be pissed, whether he\'s overreacting or not. Let him blow off some steam. At least people care enough about hearing the Breakfast to get that upset over their not playing.
Bad form. Clearly. I can see where they\'re coming from, but ya know what, suck it up. Some days it\'s freezing cold out and pouring rain but I don\'t cancel my lessons because it will set a bad/frustrating mood for my week. This is their JOB, it is WORK, and work is not always fun, and not always rewarding. Clearly there were many people who were pissed and the last thing they need is this negative publicity. I have encountered people before who have asked me, "Don\'t you think the guys are kind of stuck up primadonnas?" and I have vehemently defended them. This move I cannot and will not defend. I hope they shift their thought process a bit as the tour continues, because there will doubtless be other unsavory venues or weak draws, and they can\'t just bail because of it.
Also, I am incredulous to find that they may not have even TOLD the bar owner (or whomever should have been notified) that they were cancelling. I really hope that that is not the case because if so, well... it\'s childish, unprofessional, and SELFISH, egocentirc... self-centered.... ugh. I really hope there is another side of this that I am not hearing. It sure as hell doesn\'t sound like the group of guys that I know and love.
-
yes....i was thinking about going but i was scheduled to work this morning so couldn\'t stay out late and passed.
I\'ve heard plenty of breakfast shows. I think i even heard a show of the guitar player by himself. I was interested, but couldn\'t make it.
for you to come here and say the band has no class is just stupid and ignorant
i beg to differ. I\'m just pointing out the truth. You guys say you know the band differently. I know them as the band that dissed St. Louis. They would have just been better off skipping over our city like so many other bands do instead of scheduling a show and then cancelling because the venue wasn\'t up to their needs.
No Class.
-
the venue is good enough for Eric McFadden to play his heart out w/ the EMTrio. Not good enough for the Breakfast? Might wanna check his resume. $130 is a helluva lot more gas money for a 3rd tier jamband than $0.
-
This is their JOB, it is WORK, and work is not always fun, and not always rewarding.
Too bad they didn\'t show up for work. :thumbsdow

so the shittalker wasnt even there..
he was thinking about going..
thats laughable..really it is..
waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaawaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.
the band cancelled the show.
guess what?maybe there was a reason for it.im sure it was a good one too.
ive seen them play in front of me and my wife, period.that was alsso 5-6 years ago.
there a different band now.they deserve better things.how do u think it would have made them feel to play at some mickeymouse, hole in the wall shithole bar.
fuck it,lets start booking them at the brickhouse again.lets see how fast we can move backwards, instead of forwards.
im sure it wast there fault, and i respect their decesion, per usual.
its the booking agent who should get the blame, and not the band.
lets be ser for a minute here..
-
i will say one thing. the .info population has grown substantially today :)
-
I have to agree 100% with Wah on this one. The booking agent really is at fault since it is there duty and responsibilty to tell the band about the venues in which they will play. If special arrangements need to be made, etc.
-
fuckthebreakfast> u didnt even go to the show. I feel for the people who actually had an interest and traveled to see them. now u have a reason to be a dick and you probably would be on here making a post about how they sounded like crap and had gave a sub par performance after seeing them play this shithole you call intimate
-

How are you pointing out truth. You didn\'t even go to the show. you were thinking of going but didnt becasue you had to work. So them cancelling didn\'t effect you at all but you seem hell bent on being a dick.
I have thought about going to shows and didn\'t. I didnt come on the board to blast the band becasue they played songs I wanted to hear.
So them cancelling didnt effect you 1 bit. You have admitted as much. But I guess you feel so much pride in St. Louis that becasue they cancelled a show in your hometown you feel as if the sky is falling. and are more pissed off than people who actually went to the show and didnt get to see the band.
I think it is official. We have are first true TROLL on the message board.

regardless of what they deserve this is where they are at, and they need to show up for their responsibilities and commitments. they had a contract to play at this venue and they broke that contract. i think these people have every right to be pissed.
fred how would you feel if you lived no where near the breakfast and the once in a blue moon show gets cancelled because they don\'t like the looks of the venue? i\'d bet you\'d be pissed.
-
Fred you are the best fan the band has. But I gotta disagree on this one.
The guy is being a tool, but might as well let him blow off steam instead of pissing him off even more.
-
all im saying is the dude comes on here, badmouthing the band(our friends)and WASNT EVEN GOING TO THE SHOW!!
get where im comin from?
-
CLOWN SHOES.
If anyone is surprised by this unproffesional and idiotic move I would like to take this opportunity to say \'I TOLD YOU SO\'.
The bands ego is growing at about 20 times the rate of thier fan base.
Maybe a road manager is the answer....but I doubt it.

there must be nothing to do in ST Louis
I get the point of your post, but take issue with that statement.
This week:
[-]3/8 The Breakfast[/-]
3/9 Railroad Earth, Hackensaw Boys & a late night set by Cornmeal
3/10 Big Wu
Next week:
3/15 Lucinda Williams or Chuck freakin\' Berry!!! He still plays monthly at a small bar.
3/16 Matisyahu or Steel Pulse (why two reggae bands are scheduled the same night at different venues is beyond me)
3/18 Ladysmith Black Mambazo
The following week:
3/19 Wilco
3/24 The Samples
3/25 Perpetual Groove (Speakeasy opens - they ROCK!)
Week after that:
3/25 Adrian Belew
3/29 The Slip
3/31 Dirty Dozen Brass Band
4/1 Bela Fleck & The Flecktones
This year has been great for shows in St. Louis. I taped 12 bands in 18 nights between mid-Jan thru early Feb.
-
I do think the majority of the fault likes with the booking agent, however, once they are committed and there, the fault then lies on their shoulders. I know it wouldn\'t make them feel great to play a dooze, however, you still have to do the right thing sometimes, regardless of whether or not it feels good for you. I know they deserve better things, but pissing off fans is not a good way to get these "better things."
-
It doesn\'t happen with 99.99 percent of bands, just seems to be a problem with the Breakfast. It had been 3 years since they had been through town, I hope to see them on their way back east,
John

how much do the band generally make per show? i know someone who wanted to book another show in PA and brett told him not unless 2 of thier other bands open. it was gonna be a big party. the band would;ve make at least $1000, free beer, free hotel rooms. and this fella\'s band was gonna open to pull in more people who maybe normally woulndt go. i was shocked that the booking agent turned that down. could;ve prolly made more than $1000
-
you are so short sighted! them cancelling did have an effect on me. I was looking forward to possibly being able to make the show and couldn\'t. ScottT was gong to tape the show and I was going to download it.
Now i hear about this and i will never even try to see or listen to them again.
clear?
And i think my intentions were pretty clear as to why i signed up after reading my first post. call it trolling. whatever. you won\'t see me posting here again after this post so flame away. However it\'s not like i told the breakfast to go fuck their mothers. I thought it was a clearly written post; very untroll-like, but whatever.

That was funny...
-
i\'d just like to point out to the folks who are pissed that this is very out of character for them. i\'ve been seeing them for years and they have always been kind and humble and gracious. they have played shitty venues and thrown down. they are friendly and talk to the fans. i don\'t understand, nor can i explain, what happened here. (this is why i strongly feel that the band owes people an official statement to explain.)
if what happened is as it seems, i don\'t support the decision at all. i am confounded by it. i am also holding out hope there is another side to the story?
to the folks coming down on those who are pissed, i encourage you to ease up. don\'t make a bad situation worse. folks have a right to be pissed. they\'re less likely to get past it and give the band we love a chance if they come to the board and are called names. that\'s not good form, either.
-

Joc you have to stop making excuses and blaming other people besides the band.
Here is the bottom line:
The band has a HORRIBLE business sense!
Exposure and fan base mean NOTHING to them if the money is not right.
I can you many specific examples if you want.
They are as bad at running a business as they are good at playing music.
Thats what it comes down to and thats the reason they are still a bar band on the verge of break up after 7 years.
-
I think it\'s funny that the "fans" are bashing the band even harder than the "first TROLL".

klout,do the right thing here...
you know what that is too..
get over the fact the band isnt playing in oneonta.i mean, theres bigger fish to fry.
you need to bite your tongue.
thanks in advance,
f.ferrara
-
what do you mean there\'s bigger fish to fry? the band drew 26 people two nights ago, you cannot get booked at bigger places with that kinda draw. you\'re getting ahead of yourself.
-
st louis folks, is Riddle\'s Penultimate Wine Bar & Cafe still open (across from the tivoli)? i loved that place when i lived out there.....
and don\'t forget, while the boys may deserve a better room in NE, they haven\'t played stl for 3 years and should have played whatever gig they had. they should have also talked with the owner to see if smething could be done, or just to let him know for sure so he could make other arrangements. now, it turns out that he was able to get an acoustic duo in, but had he not, the band would have screwed him even more, moneywise. and club/bar owners tend to be long memoried and never seem to like losing money....
-
i mean,instead of playing oneonta,stick with syracuse/albany.
driving an hour or so wont hurt the "fans".
-
its not about oneonta freddy.
honestly.
oneonta is an example of what I am talking about though.
So is this thread.
IM phil and ask him what happened with the Fort Collins show if you want another prime example.
I know they are your good good friends but facts are facts dude.
they make bad decisions and its unfortunate because its likely going to result in a waste of HUGE amounts of talent.
-
youve been harsh since the oneonta thing.
im good at sensing intraweb feelings.

Hmm, this all seems pretty shitty. Mike Gordon sat in with some friends at Pop\'s Blue Moon a few years back when he was in town with Leo. PBM is a great place and I\'m sure that StL would have (did in fact) have a good turnout to see The Breakfast, so for them to cancel last minute really was a bad decision. I saw Raq at Cicero\'s a few years back and there were 5 people in there. Chris took it as an opportunity to put his amp on 11 and crank out some *SERIOUS* jams. I certainly went back to see them several months later with 5 friends. You are probably starting to see my point...if you are on tour, then you are working to gain some additional fan base and this was clearly not a wise *fan gaining* decision. I\'m from StL and live here. Raq hasn\'t come back in a while and their scheduled to stop through MO 4/15 in Columbia, MO, which is about 2 hour drive for me. I WILL be traveling to see those guys, but may never muster up the desire to catch The Breakfast as a result of their insult to the interested fans of StL. As was previously mentioned...*thanks for nothing*
-
Riddles is there.
What local jam bands do u remeber from the lou?
-
go fuck your mother!!!
Are the fans a reflection of the band, or vice versa?
The Breakfast better try the I-80 Iowa/Nebraska route next time....at least there are even fewer people up there for them to alienate.
He\'s just a twat that has his head up the band\'s ass. Don\'t mind him.

interesting..
thats not how it is.
im a fan of the band, and dont like to read them being badmouthed, thats it.
your outta your element,leith.
-
you don\'t have to like it.
-
i think its all kinda funny. one cancelled gig, no big deal, people\'s lives will go on as they were. sure it would\'ve been cool to gain a few more fans in st. louis, but they blew their chance, shit happens. if people are gonna hold it against them and call them classless, thats their issue.
the band are a great bunch of guys and if you found out first hand instead of jumping to conclusions based on one misunderstanding, then you\'re as classless as anyone.
the porter\'s show when they got new management was cancelled because of what looks to me to be a similar situation and i remember that being dobson\'s call. so there are millions of ways this could\'ve panned out.
and klout, where do you come off saying the band\'s ego is bigger than their fanbase or whatever? whats your backup on that one? cuz i fail to see any signs of an egotistical problem.
-
This has got to be one the all around worst fucking decisions the band has made. The Breakfast supposedly has a growing fanbase in the midwest, birthed from a similar market that made Umphrey\'s. Midwest folks are kind, dedciated individuals, and I empathize with each and everyone of you, including Fuckthebreakfast. This band has no fucking road manager, hell, no manager in general and it has got to change or this band will fade away. There needs to be someone at the helm, pushing them when they want to be coddled, making this band work their fucking ass off on the road.
If the new booking agent fucked up then GO TO MONTEREY PENINSULA ARTISTS, I cannot stress this efuckingnough. What really pisses me the fuck off is the fact that TB pretty much burned the bridges that lead to Warkusa., which is turning into one of the hottest festivals on the scene. There is one thing I have to say at this point to the band and even some of the defending fans:
SWALLOW YOUR FUCKING PRIDE
-
all i have to say is Cobb is right.... if you are drawing 26 people... why would you not play a smaller club, just like the breakfast had to graduate to Toads from smaller bars like Cafe Nine..... Remember, you\'re half way acrossed the country.... you havent played the region in 2 full years..... you changed your name.... not to offend anyone, but suck it up, mic the vocals and kick drum, play your hearts out, and win over a bar full of kids, because next time when you are at Cicero\'s, that bar full of kids will each tell 2 other people and there doubles your crowd.
and Wah, as far as sticking to Syracuse and Albany, most college kids dont have cars, and cant have cars due to college rules until they are jr\'s and sr\'s due to lack of parking, makes it hard for the 175 Oneonta fans, to fit into Klout\'s car..... considering My car is here in Colorado, Erics car is in Troy, and ellis\'s van is in New Haven... All transportation is thrown out the window.... The Breakfast drew as many people to the general clinton Pub as they did to Revolution Hall.
I love the breakfast, and I try to do everything and anything I can to get their name out there, and I always have and I always will But theres a lot of truth to what a lot of people are saying, and its kind of frustrating......
and someone mentioned Raq..... Raq has 1/2 the talent that the breakfast does, and have twice the fan base now, as much as I dont want to admit it. Look at their tour, they must be doing something right
-
its over and done with.
they did what they did because they felt it was the best move to make at the time.
-
Breakfast music kicks ass. Breakfast business sense? Not so much.
Can we all sing along? M-I-C-K-E-Y........
Show up and then slink away w/o telling the owner of the club. That is weak.
Oh and Treychica Monterey probably does not want The Bfast so let that go. Really MPA is a professional booking agency remember?
-
26 in Iowa City is a fluke. Not to drop so low ever again. BUT I\'m listening to the show right now and it kicks ass... care to know way? Because Iowa City’s full of chill folks, not whiny ass holes from STL. Perhaps it wasn\'t the lack of a proper equipped gig but TB not wanting to play for a bunch of pricks.
Just a thought.
-
and klout, where do you come off saying the band\'s ego is bigger than their fanbase or whatever? whats your backup on that one? cuz i fail to see any signs of an egotistical problem.
hmmm....recently....the band thinking they are too good to even play a venue after drawing 27 people the night before?
if you consider that to be on the humble side of the spectrum I think your vision may be a bit clouded homie
-
lucinda williams is the shit.
Yes she is! I hadn\'t really heard a note of hers until I saw her open for the Allman Brothers last September. I listen to that disc way more than I have the Allman\'s set. She is not normally taper-friendly, so it was fortuitous that I was able to make an open-rig recording of her set.
Unfortunately my tax bill is outrageous this year and I can only go to low-cost or no-cost shows until I pay the feds on 4/17. That big list I posted before? I\'ll honestly only see a couple of those shows - most likely P-Groove and The Slip. Curse my poor accounting skillz!
-

should the band be playing huge venues in front of sold out crowds? yes. is this the reality of their situation? no.
we/they need to accept the things we/they cannot change, and take action to change the things we/they can. this would include playing dirty little hole in the wall venues if it means it will get them even a baby step closer to being where they want to and should be.

no denial here, just not gonna jump to any conclusions or say they\'re \'too good\' for anything before i hear the whole story. this same band had no issues playing in front of 26 people the night before, or 5 or so in canada a month or so ago, so apparently they weren\'t too good for that. maybe the rockstar fairy came to them in their sleep last night.
-
wah, mandler and greg = in ser denial
hey kid talk to me after you\'ve been on the road for a month and a half alright GUY!! then maybe you\'ll have a fuckin clue about how these things work, but I doubt it. I\'m not saying it was a great decision, but we weren\'t there, and at least I\'m not coming on the board telling everyone I\'m boycotting shows, how\'s that supposed to any good, I love these guys if that\'s a fault so be it.
oh wait I"m sorry they\'re supposed to be playing in a venue that ripps them off (yeah they did) has piss on the walls and lets kids who look liek they\'re 15 in to get sloppy rightr in front of the stage THAT"S a GREAT business decision

you\'re out of your element. this guy has a subscription for gay midget porn.
-
Because Iowa City’s full of chill folks, not whiny ass holes from STL. Perhaps it wasn\'t the lack of a proper equipped gig but TB not wanting to play for a bunch of pricks.
Just a thought.

whats the best thing to do for a friend who has a serious drinking or drug problem....
tell them they have a problem and to seek help?
OR
tell them everything is fine and the drinking is not a problem because they are a friend and reeeally good at playing soccer?
THINK ABOUT IT

obviously something your favorite band knows nothing about either. pot....meet kettle.
you two are so idiotic i had to break my post hiatus. what good troll doesn\'t?
-
the band should\'ve just plugged in and played a short set last night:
I- Inner Glimpse, VT Song, Vera Street, The Chase, Born to Be Wild
no encore, then got back on the road. and it still would\'ve been the best show in St. Louis in months.

i doubt it. There is a band that plays in st. louis every week that the breakfast can\'t hold a candle to. but whatever, musical taste is subjective.
One man\'s trash(The Breakfast) is another man\'s art.

Things I learned today:
The Breakfast should get better management
The band has passionate fans
Some people have waaaay too much time on their hands
Well, my work day is done. Thanks for keeping me entertained - some stupid internet drama is a great way to pass the time. This morning I just wanted to post the facts as I experienced them last night - I never meant for this issue to blow up like it did, but hey - it\'s been fun kids... I\'m off to tape some bluegrass.

oh geez my other name was outed. i feel SOOOOOOOO embarassed. i figured with the name it would have seemed obvious. i\'m not a very good troll. this was my first and only attempt.
ok. now you really won\'t have to worry about me or the other guy. i think this whole debacle has come to a close.
take care

uh could we get back to last night and how it represents or does not represent the breakfast?
-
its called loyalty, through thick and thin.
obviously, you know absolutely nothing about that.
is that why your here posting on the board and gavin is in the van?
Justin- my friend Frederick Ferrara is a man of much character, and passion for things such as the music of The Breakfast, but he also has a little girl to take care of, and it is pbvious where his priorities are. think b/f you post, guy.
-
i admit that was harsh but... pulling the loyalty card? cmon....
to say I have no loyalty is just diverting the attention from the topic and personaly attacking my character.
Insisting that the band can do no wrong is not being loyal!
Loyalty would be acknowleding the existence of bad decisions in hopes to avoid such decisions in the future.
Its really not that complicated.
-
id prefer to argue/talk shit/post obscene pics
-
i prefer to smoke sugar hash and play poker so fuck it
but one good owning does deserve another. hehe.

Can\'t wait for those debuts......
-
i\'m sure you will wah.
I dont say anything to you that I wouldnt want repeated as I am WELL aware of your love of telling timmy and the boys everything I write on the board and IM.

once again get a clue guy, uncalled for, I\'d be there if I could, but deceided to go to school and do better for myself, so go fuck yourself................OK
-
finaly decided to stop being a loser huh. good for you pal.
and it was called for.
you yourself called for it by deciding to verbally attack me and by making a completely hypocritical statement.
I\'m glad to see your no longer relying on the breakfast for a life.
However I am sad and discouraged to see your still defending and standing by thier idiotic business decisions because of your friendship with them.
It\'s really not helping thier situation I assure you.
-
jesus bro, talk about cold hearted
I mean bitching about the band is one thing, and even the petty little shots we take at each other on here but that\'s down righ fucked up........ To take it to that level man, I\'m a non violent person but you might just change that should I ever run into you, BEing in the van is one of the greatest experiences of my life, it changed who I am as a person and is one of the things that made me want to get my shit together, if your gonna kick a man while he\'s down what does that say about you eh?
THAT\'S REALLY FUCKED UP!!!
-
sorry dude. you asked for it.
dont dish it up if you cant take it.
-
for fuck\'s sake people, give it a rest. Rehoboth Gregg over there seems to have made the only logical post in the latter part of this thread. It happened, deal with it. Gonna boycott the band because they made a decision as a group, fine, that\'s your deal, bring your bullshit elsewhere. Whether it was a good, bad, or a little of both decision, what\'s done is done, you can\'t change it.
Personally, I think it was poor decision making to not play. But I have full confidence that the reason was/will be justified. What is a poorer decision was to not let anyone know and just bail, that\'s bad. But until an official statement is released alls we can do is speculate, argue, make fun, call names, etc. You guys, all of you (well, the vast majority) sound like middle schoolers (myself included). Everyone needs to relax; go smoke a pipe, have a beer, do whatever it is you do to chill, but fucking do it already!
Klout, the \'too good\' thing is way out of proportion. I am highly doubting that the band, ellis, dobson, and gabo made a decision of "we\'re too good to play here" in the van. While I see where you are trying to go with your arguement(s) I think your wording of \'too good\' and \'egotistical\' is a little off.
Jocelyn, you said something about people calling the guys premadonna\'s. Well, to let you know, that is how they breed us in East Haven ;) Some of us manage to break the code though, the band included. Others like Mr. Pecoraro however, do not. :duck:  I mean, the orange vest guy, gotta go ;)
-
hey man I didn\'t bring it to that level, likke I said the petty shots we take at each other is one thing, but man that\'s going to far.............. if you can\'t see that......
and actually I still am relying on the Breakfast for a life, because these people are my family......... and even without the BFast in town it\'s still the Bfam
BTW the most out of hand thread EVER
-
i admitted it was harsh.
it was.
but u have to admit the comments made by you that lead up to me making that remark were well beyond the level of so called "petty shots".
-
as far as the PA issue. i would think when booking a venue, you would see what PA they run and make sure it will be enough to power a band before swending them all the way out there....
FACT!!1
From the band: there was no sound system, no lights, no stage, smaller and would be similar if not worse than having to play back at Rudys. It is nice to feel good and leave a show with some confidence and energy for the next one and makes traveling in a van a lot more enjoyable. doozies kill the mood of the tour and would have been a huge frustration factor. I guess they went and actually practiced/ went over some new songs they want to play in the next few shows and made a productive night out of it. good for them.
Total asshats.
-
I wanna See Freddie Wah and Klout one on one in an ultimate fighting ring. whoever gets the knock out wins........ I put my money on............?

go fuck your mother!!!
Pics?
P.S. RAAAWWWRRRRRR!!!!!
God what a bunch of fucking whiners.
Please don\'t bring Him into this, it\'s been a long day.
Thanks.

Im sorry you got let down and I hope that the boys make it up to you :(
Who are you, the new publicist? ;)
I should be!
by the way...your lame:)

POTD. You, ma\'am, are a voice of reason.

where is the LOCK on this thread?? disheartening straight through. absolutely weak sauce by just..... not playing. as said though its over and done, hopefully this is just a footnote in a Breakfast Companion down the road. when\'s the last time they bailed on a show?? ever?? st. louis experienced an unfortunate event. but hey id have to assume there was something more involved than it just being a dive.. i hope! anyways, in the grand scheme of things this means very little, in Breakfast Land it means everything at the moment.
all in all i do think they made a mistake, no doubt. but they\'re just people at the same time. not gonna say ive never called in sick or ran away for a night, who knows what the hell was going on. move on, they arent Siddartha or Moses and took off for a day to let some great corner of humanity fall apart. so bashers, i hope you give em a chance, not sure if i would but id be pretty upset if i finally did in 10 years and missed a decade of sick sick music. ive had a bitter taste in my mouth since i saw the "reasoning" behind cancellation, but once again is this the first time something like this has happened in this fashion? i have a feeling it is.
human beings---> interesting creatures, \'ay?

George, I am sorry you had to read all 16 pages of that, really I am. But on a side note, you honestly only needed to read 3-4 to get it all, everything has been repeated enough times throughout.
And, this Feet person. What in the hell does pikes mean? That some Mizzou word? And, I\'m going out on a limb here, and cant confirm until an admin/mod checks, but I\'m gonna have to conclude that this is your 3rd sign up today?
-
Sorry to be so late in commenting on this, but I wanted to be absolutely sure of what I wanted to say, and have as much information as possible.
So, let me start here. I\'ve been a professional in this business for almost 40 years, and I played more shows in the 70\'s and 80\'s than many play in an entire career. I didn\'t take the stage once....and I was in the hospital for that. So it should be clear that my preference would have been for the band to do a light acoustic kind of thing and make it work.
But, they are in the thick of it, so I have to assume it was pretty grim when they got there. They don\'t tend to be reactive, so they didn\'t feel they could put on the show that peeps expect, and that they expect from themselves. Alex talked to the promoter...who was frankly not all that freaked, and who admitted that this was NOT the first time this had happened. At any rate, the date was given to the promoter based on it being at The Venice, but by the time he moved it we had little choice but to accept it. We could have cancelled, and in retrospect maybe that should have been done, but who knew.
I can\'t reveal inside business stuff like what the gig paid, but it was the weakest show on the tour anyway....the one I had to wonder about. But, when you are lining up a tour you want to leave as few dead spots as possible, so the date was left.
So, I officially apologize to the fans that went, and the fans in general. But this wasn\'t done to dis the fans; if anything the band did not want to put on a substandard show FOR the fans.
Hang in, this is going to be sn excellent tour.
-

i agree that it would be a nice sentiment, but i believe they NEED to get back home after being out west for some reason, which is why no shows are scheduled on the way back. also, it\'s not horrible, but it\'s still kind of short notice to book a show 3 weeks in advance. not always the easiest thing to do.

That\'s the best explanation that could be mustered up? I\'m curious as to what could have been so grim that they felt they couldn\'t work through it?

Clearly nothing said or done here short of a blowjob is going to satisfy you. Why not take your business elsewhere... you\'re not "proving a point" anymore. The Breakfast cancelled the show scheduled for my 21st birthday. I was pissed for about 10 minutes too. Then I grew up.
-
Some things that upset bands who have drive 1500 miles for a gig:
1) No stage at all 2) Totally inadequate PA 3) no posters in club or outside club
There are very few things more disheartening to a band that driving that pulling into that situation. It just takes the air right out of you.
Even the PROMOTER indicated that this was NOT the first time a band had pulled up, and pulled out. And I wouldn\'t mind knowing what happened at The Venice House as well.
Again, as much as I would have liked a differet outcome, and do apologize to the fans, I also understand bands well enough to accept what happened. The Breakfast have dealt with enough bad situations that if Ron Spears tells me it was unworkable, it probably was.

Q: Shouldn\'t those details be worked BEFORE the DOS, especially if it\'s a show stopper?
A: Yes.
So the PA was inadequate and there wasn\'t a raised stage. Decent reasons I suppose if you\'re a premadonna with a major ego. Suck it up, unplug, and do an acoustic set. Give the people something positive and special to talk about instead of bailing out due to less then ideal circumstances.
No posters? Are you kidding me? Does it take their own name on the wall to make them feel good enough about themselves that they\'re able to work through a less then ideal situation?
Even the PROMOTER indicated that this was NOT the first time a band had pulled up, and pulled out. And I wouldn\'t mind knowing what happened as The Venice House as well.
It\'s called The Venice Cafe. It, along with PBM, are two very unique bars in St. Louis. When you\'re on the ground floor, kinda like these guys are in St. Louis, then you have to work your way up. They should have leaped at the chance the play either of these rooms.
The Breakfast have dealt with enough bad situations that is Ron spears tells me it wasunworkable, it probably was.
What?

St. Joe\'s: 56, St. Louis: 37
The city of St. Louis loses again. tough week!
LOL. burrrrrrn. I think you fans of this band will be the losers in the long run. Not gonna make it in that biz w/ attitudes and egos that are not in check. Try booking another gig in the STL area now that all of the local promoters know the Breakfast work ethic. Bridges have been burned up. Here\'s to another washed up band in the making! Maybe another name change will garner some more fans? It gets better every time. How bout "The \'fast" for an idea? I will eagerly watch this band crash and burn like so many other low-grade noodle bands. Wait til Phish goes back on tour, nobody\'ll know who the \'fast is.

Why the hell would you drive that far w/out knowing about your destination? Sounds like the management is worse than their egos.

Are you really waiting for Phish to go back on tour?

Here\'s to another washed up band in the making!
Do you really think not making one show in fuckin St. Louis is gonna be the end of the band, hey man they have a great fan base here on the east coast where there\'s 5 or six cities within a 4 hour drive, Fuck St. Louis!! WE don\'t need you over pretensious the world revolves around me attiude.
Wait til Phish goes back on tour.
DO me a favor start holding your breathe waiting for that one to happen,

I\'m so glad to see you respond so well to intelligent conversation.

it\'s my opinion that 1 and 3 aren\'t very good reason. i\'ve seen them play places that didn\'t have a stage.

This thread has earned the extremely rare, prestigious, and exclusive honor of the violin salute! In order to calculate how many violins in this salute, I added the approximate number of miles the band drove to St. Louis (1500) to the number of friends feetdown has to the number of times phishrules will see Phish play again...
So here it is, the 1500 violin salute!!!!!

I\'m so glad to see you respond so well to intelligent conversation.
I must have missed that. ;-)

Wait til Phish goes back on tour.
DO me a favor start holding your breathe waiting for that one to happen,
I guarantee that will happen before The Breakfast makes it big. It\'ll happen this summer. I\'ll be back here to laugh.
Yeah, you have tons of fans that think it was unacceptable too. You have to take the good w/ the bad to make it. Obviously there was great interest in this show that never happened or else there wouldnt be an 18 page thread about it getting cancelled. Talk all the shit you want about St. Louis, we\'re nothing but farms and open fields, right? Seriously BAD business decision. Watching this band fail is gonna be awesome.

This thread has earned the extremely rare, prestigious, and exclusive honor of the violin salute! In order to calculate how many violins in th is salute, I added the number of approximate miles the band drove to St. Louis (1500) to the number of friends feetdown has to the number of times phishrules will see Phish play again... So here it is, the 1500 violin salute!!!!! :violin: :violin: :violin: :violin: :violin: :violin: :violin: :violin: :violin: :violin: :violin: :violin: :violin: :violin: :violin: :violin: :violin: this is getting really tired, do we have to stay at each other\'s throats like this?
-
Daffodil...you may well be right. But I think the guys are really trying to step everything up, and it simply freaked them out to see a venue that they probably outgrew 5 years ago. Its kind of like if you booked a nice hotel for a vacation and got there to find out it was really a day rate motel.
They made a decision based on what they saw. It wasn\'t aimed at the fans. Perhaps a leddon learned.
Next show.

a venue they out grew five years ago? This is STL where they do not have a fan base, the room was probably adequate.

:that: This thread is only showing the stupidity that STL breeds - it should be closed before their conditions become contagious to the loyal & dedicated fans.
-
Whoa...feetdown I don\'t know how you did that thing with the smileys and the flashing black bar but that\'s pretty far out. You must be on a lot of message boards.
Actually, now that I read the whole thread the first few pages aren\'t so bad. But the last few definitely earned each and every violin. Congratulations everyone!

i\'d probably agree with you to a certain extent, except that they haven\'t toured/played that area in years. they kind of have to start at the beginning in certain markets, ya know? this just makes me sad because it doesn\'t make the band look good. this tour should be all about gaining some fans and building a fanbase, and unfortunately this move has accomplished the opposite as we\'ve seen. i just wish it hadn\'t happened.
-
Daffodil is the voice of reason. A band trying to make it in a new market should suck it up and play their balls off to show what the hell they are made of, why they are touring in the first place. Hell, I\'ve heard stories of Widespread Panic being paid out of the pool table in quarters, playing to the bartender when nobody showed up. There were tapers IN THE BUILDING, the talk about this show (being at Pop\' Blue Moon) started almost a month before the show on local message boards. There were links to all the shows on Archive.org, people were excited..and then shit on.

Black bar? Your computer must not be able to take the load or something. Shows up fine on mine?

Who cares if it wasn\'t "aimed at the fans" as someone said earlier, the point is the fans were the collateral damage. Apparantly that doesn\'t hold much weight with the Breakfast.
-
The Breakfast has touched my heart so much i wrote a poem about them.
a breakfast fan
I am not.
Unless it\'s an ommlette
Served extemely hot.
Crunchy grooves and sweet solos can take you only so far.
Why must the jammy jams be compleltely sub par?
Noodle Noodle, put me to sleep
Listening to Timmay solo is like counting sheep.
It\'s been done. I\'ve heard it all before.
The Breakfast will soon be band of Connecticut lore.
Jambands, they\'re a dime-a-dozen.
Better songs are written by my cousin.
Too good for St. Louis, you did not play.
The music of the breakfast is extremely...............
boring :-D

i kinda agree with phishermanjohn on that one. outgrew in the ne, sure, but not out there. that being said, next time they\'re in stl, maybe an extra show, extra set, extra something to appease the folks that apparently were *really* looking forward to this show. which is pretty cool.
oh, and to answer your question, phishermanjohn, i can\'t remember their name, but i bought a cd. i think it had a number in the band name. or a color... i saw them at cicero\'s and i think i also saw them out at the blue note. man, i\'m completely spacing on the name right now..... this was in 98 and they\'d been aruond for a coule years, but were all still pretty young. i saw a ton of shows while i was out there, though. phish 7/29/98, panic 10/24/98 (still looking for a decent copy of that show), moe. and sci at mississippi nights, ekoostik hookah at the firehouse, vic wooten (still looking for any copy) and chuck berry at the duck room, buddy guy at the friday under the highway thingy.... a few more that i\'m spacing on right now....

Meh...don\'t know if we have any venues good enough around our one cow town. Who\'d want to stay more than one night here anyways? There is nothing to do here I have heard. Unfortunately, as was posted earlier, most of St. Louis will go into mourning as the Pride of Missouri, St. Louis University Billikens, the powerhouse of college basketball for so many years-truly a storied brigage of cagers, has lost. Please dont rub it in anymore, us Missourian\'s cant take the pain that it has caused us. I can\'t believe he even went there. SLU basketball is LIFE for Missourah.

Irony defined: Feet_Down calling me a crybaby.
Idoicydefined: Feet_Down calling me a turd.
Nice job piss flap.
And speaking of irony...
I\'m not above giving you this one. Untimely mistake on my part. Gotta give credit for a SER Textbook Call-Out when credit is due. :drew:
And for the record, "piss flap" is even better than "turd".
Anywho, currently resisting the urge to read this anymore unless something official comes from band/bar/management... on the plus side, I just learned how insert the "dead horse" thing.
:deadhorse: :deadhorse:

How\'s this for official, this was posted on a STL jambands board...apparently spelling is not stressed, much like professionalism. Class!
Quote:
yeah sorry about that. as you can probably see we don\'t travel the counrty to cancel shows and dissappoint fans; however, there were many factors that led us to last night\'s decision beginning with a venue change less than two weel ago. when we arrived we felt that the equpitment would not allow us to play at 110%, which if you\'ve seen us before is what we always do. my apologies to you and all the others we dissappointed last night, and i can assuer you something like this will not become a habit.

Trying to take the focus off one set of ass clowns (Breakfast) and place it on another set of ass clowns?

You really aren\'t even out there are ya? You\'re just a Boston local who doesn\'t really like the band and have been waiting for 5+ years at the opportunity to jump on a poor decision and create a ruckus over it? C\'mon, tell me I\'m right on this one.

You\'re welcome to use either any time you like.

I will attest to the validity of that quote. A STL message board participant who emailed the band recieved that email reply from them this morning and posted it there.

What happened to you and not posting on this site? I thought you were done, what made you to come back here?
Unfortunately, St. Louis was 2 days ago, and most of us stopped caring about 12 hours ago.
So if you St. Louis folks like to keep bringing up stupid shit, then so be it, but its a waste of time and energy.
-
pretty much nailed it. There def was a genuine interest. But in all seriousness, STL really doesnt care about The Breakfast. Come again! See how big the crowd is next time for your pretentious band.

I can be civil, but I just had to stir the pot a little when I saw people actually defending the decision. :-)

This thread is only showing the stupidity that STL breeds - it should be closed before their conditions become contagious to the loyal & dedicated fans.
Or closed before we start lobbying our congresspeople to take away their farm subsidies ;)
-
What the fuck do you guys add to the national economy in Ct? St. Louis and the following region offer a lot more than farming.
-
just when things had settled down, way to go zurflu!!

Riverboat casinos? ;)
Actually, this country would be screwed without the agricultural backbone of the midwest.

False.

I believe CT is the richest state in the country
That does not mean CT. contributes anything of value to the Nation as a whole it just means it is full of money hoarding tightwads.

reading this shit has kept me entertained at work for the past 2 days but this thread needs to die.

Hey Mark, what were the reactions from your STL friends?
-
I preface this by stating that I don\'t know anything about the economy of Missouri (though The Simpsons has taught that Branson is a bitchin\' vacation spot), but as far as Connecticut goes, one word: Sikorsky.
-
Actually, CT is home to some of the most important companies in this country. We\'re only the richest state per capita because of the people who make millions that live here but work in NYC. Some of those companies include the BIC Corporation, who make most of the lighters we all use to light our cigarettes, joints, bowls, etc. on a daily basis; and I for one consider that a very important company :). Schick is based here (I think, it may just be a plant, but all the Schick jobs I do at work get sent to Milford). The Bayer Corporation, makers of fine medical products. Oh and I almost forgot to mention the almighty PEZ Candy Company! And that anooying bastard Jarrod wouldnt have a multi million dollar endorsement from Subway without Subway starting/headquartering here. I\'m sure there are others.
GO WHALERS!
FUCK BUDWEISER, IT TASTES LIKE SHIT!
Oh, and Sikorsky, thanks Drew. Fine makers of military schtuff for decades.

I\'m with you 100% on the Cardinals!
The Budweiser, eh, not so much
Hey Mark, what were the reactions from your STL friends?
I think I warned most of them in time, but haven\'t heard from everyone yet. Man I was so excited for them to experience face melting. I really hope this thread dies soon......

boeing products mase in stl destroy sikorsky products, literally.

I thought that was NJ?
http://abclocal.go.com/wpvi/story?section=local&id=3399036
TRENTON, NJ-August 31, 2005 - New Jersey isn\'t just the Garden State. It\'s the rich state too.
Census Bureau data released yesterday lists New Jersey as the wealthiest state in the country.
New Jersey\'s concentration of upscale bedroom communities near New York and Philadelphia helped give the state the distinction. Connecticut came in Number Two.
The median, or midpoint, of household income in the nation was nearly $45,000 last year. It was more than $61,000 in New Jersey.
National per capita income – the average income earned per person – was more than $24,000 nationally, but more than $30,000 in New Jersey.
The percentage of people living in poverty was also more than four percentage points lower in New Jersey than in the rest of the country.

eh. well, times change guy, used to be CT, oh well. good for Jersey

Touche, feet, touche

Little company called GE is also headquartered in CT. But who gives a shit, on the list of cool states Connecticut and Missouri are both battling for the bottom of the barrel.

Hey phishrulez: PHISH SUCKS!!!!!!! Always have always will. If you\'re still waiting for Phish to play again you\'re a freaking retard. They suck.
-
This is the most childish thread of all time.
1.Phish is one of most amazing American bands in the history of music and the chances are that if they never formed there would be no market for jambands and The Breakfast, who knows if they\'d ever exist. And the chances are you at one point loved Phish but find that it\'s easier to jump on the bandwagon and hate them, whilst secretly rocking out to "Shine" in the confines of your bedroom.
2. Meth and Oxycontins are both horrible debilhitating drugs and obviously the people on this board are intelligent enough to do neither, so let\'s drop it.

this thread should just be deleted already.

I will admit, it\'s not a very impressive catch. The only reason it was documented was because it was the first catch of the year on a buddie\'s farm pond. He pulled in some nice ones as the day went on, my day was pretty much over once I realized my reel needs fresh line. Can\'t complain about 80 degree days the second weekend of March though!

now the second one is ok, i would have lied about my first catch if i came up with the bait. i can\'t wait to go out around here, but we where lucky to get out of the 50\'s for the first time all year this weekend.
