Title: \'New Posts\' - Everyone Please Read!
Post by: davepeck on February 02, 2006, 11:59:32 am
hey folks,

the site has been running almost unbearably slow at times as of late, as you may have noticed.. a lot of you were asking about the new \'New Posts\' feature.. i think that may have something to do with it.

this afternoon, i\'m going to switch back to the old way and see if performance improves at all. because of this, it\'s possible that you\'ll have a wacky amount of new posts again after i do this. just remember the \'quick links > mark forums read\' if you need it.

sorry for any inconvenience.

I had gotten used to the other one too

but did notice things were running slower

liked that I could just put up "who\'s online" and it automatically updated so I didn\'t have to keep hitting "New Posts" with no results

Is there a way that maybe we can have it as an option between the two styles?  Then id everybody doesn\'t have it going maybe it wont\' slow things down so much?

I liked the newer one. FYI- My internet connection is running MUCH faster right now. Here is how/ why:

I ran a thorough scan of my system this morning from trendmicro.com. This site found 4 malware items, 3 greyware items and 4 "bad" cookies that Norton, Adaware and XoftSpySE didn\'t detect. :sigh:

I am running Norton "everything" AND a firewall with anti-highjacking and this shit still found a way in. I knew something was up when my firewall kept blocking ndisuio.sys and another windows file that I can\'t remember right now. These files shouldn\'t be accessing the network. After a VERY long process of cleaning and restoring, I\'m flying high again!!

I suggest everyone go to trendmicro.com and run their FREE online scan!!! It\'s worth the 2.5 hours it takes to run the scan!!!

yeah, so, apparently i was right.. let me just say that i liked the \'new\' version a LOT better, but unfortunately when it\'s taking 30 seconds per page to load, the bads definitely outweigh the goods. it\'s a hard thing to explain to new visitors that the long load times are normal and are due to a \'feature\'. and like i said, i couldn\'t deal with them anymore myself.

you must not have seen when i posted it, but Quick Links > Mark Forums Read would have taken care of that for you, and got things in order.

not possible. it\'s a global setting. besides, there\'s only one database, so even if it were possible, the people who were using it would be bogging down the database, and the site would be slow for everyone using it anyways.

again, i loved the newer one, and that\'s why i implemented it in the first place. if it wasn\'t such a resource hog, it would be here to stay for sure. sorry guys...
