i don\'t like moe either, but i did actually go to moedown last summer and caught 2 or 3 of their sets and was not into it at all. i went for the other bands last year and may go again for the other bands playing this year.

i went last year and had a blast. prolly the best one i\'ve been to. moe was pretty much the same as they always are. Was not terribly into it. Franti was amazing. russo bennogordo was good. bisco played a decent show. perp groove was good. blues traveler was great. all in all I had a blast last year. I\'ll be there this year unless the supporting acts are all shit.

at all moe.downs, they have all sorts of musicians sitting in w/ them, and vice versa.  There\'s so much love there.  They\'ve also done fullband segues w/ Galactic, Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey, The Biscuits, and Trainwreck, so if they do one w/ the Breakfast, I\'d shit myself.  Hell, even if Chuck sat in w/ the boys for a part of their set, it would be unreal, I can\'t wait.

i fell head over heels in love at moe.down.

always liked moe., saw them here and there from 00-04, but then early \'04 i started really getting into them.... always was going to go to moe.down this year, that year...

then in 2004 i finally went to my first moe.down.  solo.  knew a few people who were going to be there... had a spot saved with some people for camping...

but moe. did something to me that weekend.  that festival did something to me that weekend.  everything about it was perfect.  the music really got to me.  and i met some of the greatest people i\'ve ever met in my life that weekend - that weekend changed my life.

i fell in love with moe....

the thing about them - i believe i got this at moe.down for the first time - no matter what moe. does there isn\'t a single second at their shows where you\'re not dancing.  i love phish and they\'re always going to be my #1 - but there are times you find yourself just standing there staring... moe. - you just CAN\'T sit down during it... i dunno - there\'s something about them.

it\'s not for everyone though.... just give it a shot...

it\'s not for everyone

I thought those Worcester shows were great, but I can\'t expect someone who isn\'t a fan to appreciate it the same way.  For me, they were the first band I started seeing after Phish went on hiatus, and they were basically everything I was looking for in a band, enough so for me to move on to them completely and basically forgetting all about Phish.   My one gripe w/ Phish was they always left you wanting more.  They\'d play some awesome jams and then toss in some lame ass slow song to sit down and catch up for a minute, some times they\'d do that too much and it would ruin the energy for me.  Yeah, they were original and weird and quirky and what have you, and they completely owned the jamband scene, but they were just another band when you get down to it.

moe. makes no bones about what they are.  They aren\'t up there trying to be anything their not or trying to use some gimmicks.  They\'re not music students who go out and try to write the most complex piece of music possible or play something backwards or inside out or what have you.  They\'re just a rock and roll band that jams the shit out of everything they can get their hands on.  Some people may find it too jammy or too spacey or what have you, but its all gravy to me, and the more they jam their shit out, the happier it makes me.  You can hate on them all you want, but you can\'t deny their musical ability.  Rob is one of the most badass bassplayers/lead singers out there today, he could light up 90% of bassists out there today and make their head spin.  The combination of Chuck and Al makes for one of the best guitar tandems around the jamband scene as well.  Anyone who is a fan of Tim really should be able to appreciate Chuck\'s playing because there are a boatload of similarities between the two.  Tim may have a bit more chops to him, but Chuck makes up for it w/ his slide playing and talkbox.  The drummers are solid too.  Vinnie is a machine, nothing flashy, but he sets the tone and keeps everything grounded.  Jim is probably the most skilled musician in the band though.  His percussion and malletkat work is amazing, and he mixes it up and plays bass, acoustic guitar, and pretty much anything he can get his hands on.

If you don\'t dig on them, then oh well, you either are looking for something that you aren\'t gonna find, or its just straight up not for you.  When you get down to it though, they are as good as it gets for what they are doing.   They\'re an American Band, they\'ll come into your town, they\'ll help you party down, and thats about all you need to know.  Maybe if the Breakfast can bring 7,000 people to upstate New York for their festival or put on a cruise where 800 of their biggest fans will pony up a grand to spend a week seeing then, or if they can sell out the Fox Theater in Atlanta which holds about 5000 heads, then maybe we can say they\'re a better band, but as long as they\'re playing in front of 50 people in bars in New England, then it just seems a little like a losing arguement to me.

just because they\'re not bringing in as much publicitiy doenst mean they are not a better band.  moe\'s been around a lot longer, so they\'ve had time to get their name out there.  the breakfast is a better band, whether there\'s 10 people at their shows or 10 thousand.  moe rocks, but they are simply not as good as TB

its really apples to oranges.  for me, they\'re both as good as it gets, but I can\'t go and say this band is better than that.  They\'re better at some things, moe.\'s better at others, and I try to leave it at that.

moe. fucking rocks.. I\'ve been listening to them for a long time, 97 to be precise, they\'ve grown into something beautiful.  They make the best studio albums in the "jamband" scene hands down, have a great live show, write REAL ROCK SONGS (with the occasional annoying goof off tune).  I stopped listening to them after Dither came out because of how dissapointed I was with it.  On top of that I don\'t think their live sound transfers well to tape, I have no owned ONE moe. show that has blown me away, yet if I saw that show live, I\'m sure I would\'ve been OWNED!!  Thinking HEARTILY about moe. down this year, especially to support TB!!

thatta boy joe.  congrats on your 420th post by the way, how do you plan on celebrating?  but yeah, dither was nothing to shake a stick at.  check out wormwood though, if you haven\'t yet.  a far superior album in every sense.  their newest warts and all release is great too.  some vintage \'98 moe. from Carbondale New York, it has a great Dr Graffenberg> Havah Negilah> Time Ed and a seamless Yodelittle> Rebubula> I Know You Rider on there as well.

Oh thanks BRAH... I might just go PUFF a butt.  yeah man, actually I decided to RANDOMLY buy Wormwood during my manic shopping spree last week.  Dude, that\'s what made me fall in love with them ALL OVER again.  I can\'t get over how fucking amazing it is, the fluency, the songwriting, the live/studio overdubs.... boom boom boom bang bang bang...

Actually I have Kyle\'s Song stuck in my head, I just cant recite the chorus as well, all I know is "Kyle\'s out of town" ;)

In fact, I was planning on dlding EVERY moedown, just because I feel they represent all of moe.\'s career in an apt way.  Plus I\'m sure the outdoor effect will help with the sound. (every DAUD moe. show I\'ve owned has been OVERpowered by the low end, which makes me toss the show in the garbage).

Breakfast at moe.down - about time! Is it confirmed yet?

I\'d gone off moe a bit lately (sorry Igzi), but the recent Tsunami show got me back into them again. I still say they need more new material, though.

probably against the grain for saying this but I enjoyed the direction they were going. didn\'t really like the slow songs live, but I respected their growth as artists. I would never replace Antelope for Mexican Cousin but I understood where Trey and the band came from. I would have loved to see them stay together as a jazz hybrid band. They could have stayed on stage and played for hours with nothing at all. as long as they were tight then I don\'t care!

Wow... i am so upset right now about all these negative reactions about moe. I totally love moe. to no end. I have seen them just about as many times as i\'ve seen the breakfast, and i can\'t say that i like either band anymore than the other, they are both fucking unbelievable (in their own way--that\'s the key).
The breakfast is great at small bar shows. It is a very intimate setting; the crowd all knows each other and we are all moving to one beat by the end of the night. Tim is sick, ripping out his sweet guitar solos and everyone else in the band feeds off each other... the energy is great.
Moe., however needs to be viewed in a completely light. They play in larger settings and so the intimacy is lost, but they definitely know how to get a few thousand people moving. Can the Breakfast do that? Maybe... in a few years, but you really can\'t compare apples to oranges as they say.
If you think all moe. shows sound the same, you need to buy some of their albums and get more acquainted with what they have to offer. They even have a bunch of new songs that they\'ve been busting out at shows this past year, and they have really left their mark. They are my first jam band love, and i\'ve been following them for a while now... and i love seeing them evolve with every show that i go to.
I don\'t understand how someone can go to moe.down and not even see moe.! That boggles my mind! Six sets of moe., and you don\'t even bother to check them out? Go check them out!! They rock!
oh yeah... about the worcester shows... i went to both nights, and i was dancing and grinning ear to ear the whole time. True, they may not pack the same intensity as a breakfast show, but you just need to appreciate them for what they can do, and that is JAM! 55 min Rebubula at moe.down two years ago was sick!
Sorry to bend your ear... (or your eyes), but i needed to express my thoughts on the matter. You guys are unbelievable! If you appreciate music in anyway, you can\'t even begin to say that moe. is not an awesome band!

Actually, I hate to admit it, but I fell asleep during the second night of the Worcester run.  It wasn\'t so much the bands fault, just me being over exhausted from the Roseland show, and the first Worcester show.  I needed a ser kick in the ass to make it through the second set, and the Kyle> Kids set closer didn\'t do it for me.  Although that Moth earlier in the set was unfriggenreal.

I can see how some don\'t enjoy them live, not everyone loves half hour jam after half hour jam, but to each their own.  My favorite moe. show ever was actually at a bar in front of 600 or so heads.  5/6/03 Monkeys on Ecstacy show.  First set was the entire Wormwood album, second set was a 45 minute Recreational Chemistry into a 45 minute Meat.  Out of friggen control, I tell ya, but not every show can be like that.

There\'s something about them thats just hard for me to put into words, when they want to they have the power to just take me over and totally put me on cloud nine.  At the last Atlanta run, I was so dead tired at the Variety Playhouse show that I was almost in a coma at setbreak, but then they came out and played the moe.st immaculate second set and encore I had seen in quite some time and it totally woke me up and gave me all sorts of energy, no drugs, no nothing, all goodness.

Enough about them though, the fact remains, this festival is gonna be huge for the Breakfast.  They\'ll be playing, and have the opportunity to be seen by 7000 or so of some of the most hardcore and loyal music fans that I\'ve ever witnessed.  I\'ve seen many bands come and go at moe.down, and I know for a fact that the Breakfast is one of the very best that will have the chance to play at Snowridge Ski Area.  I just hope they bring it hardcore(and not halfass it like the Biscuits did last year), because they have a chance to make many a new fan in one shot.

action sports center, mattydale, now those were two great moe shows (probably biased since they were my first two, but the set up was unique and in my opinion pretty awesome). As far as Worcester, I only went the first night, they were on, but god damn I hate the Palladium, my buddy said the sound was good on the balcony, but where I was it was pretty awful.

I love moe. I just dont think comparing the breakfast to moe. is like comparing apples to oranges. They\'re both bands. As a matter of fact, they\'re both jambands by most peoples definition. and as far as i\'m concerned the breakfast is better in every aspect. a lot of people have been saying that moe.\'s shows are too alike from show to show, but i disagree. My complaint is that they are to inconsistant from show to show. Sometimes i\'ll be totally in to it, and sometimes i need to take a nap.

I don\'t mean loyalty as in doing full tours. I mean loyalty as not open to other options. You, and a handful of others I have come across are about it. I can understand about the 3 to 4 show runs. I know a group of like 8-10 people who do them constantly with moe. Out of those 8-10 people, ZERO would come to Worcester two weekends ago, they stayed home in RI and sat on their asses instead. They all claim that they think the breakfast rock, yet none of them ever go to a show, even when they\'re in Providence.

I mean I may be wrong, and most of the time I am, but that\'s just my opinion from what I see and have experienced.

well, those 8 to 10 are lame.  not everyone is like that though, although i can agree, some are.  but between the last Boston, Providence, UAC, and Worcester shows, I\'ve managed to get at least 15 or so \'moe.rons\' to those shows combined, and all of them were thanking me at the end of the night.  Hell, I could look at the list of people on thebreakfast.info, and I know of at least a half dozen who I\'ve gotten to crossover from the moe.board.  They may not post, but they peep the scene and utilize radio joe.  but i agree, there are some out there that trying to get out is like pulling teeth, oh well, their loss.

unless things are changing this year.... moe. plays an afternoon set on saturday and another at about 10:00 pm so i don\'t know what "between moe.s sets" means. the beer tent (which is the "second stage"), right before moe, isn\'t a great spot IMO as most heads are jockying around the main stage for their spots. the best spot in the beer tent is friday night. this spot catapulted nero amongst the moe.rons two years ago and did it again for p-groove last year. everybody still has beer money to go along with the energy of just starting the festival and the beer tent on friday night is where they spend both. saturday afternoon is for resting between moe sets after raging all friday night. saturday afternoon, in the beer tent is, IMO, a bad spot for the breakfast for these reasons.

i have been to moe.down the last three years and i have been waiting for this to happen for a long time. moe.down is the highlight of my summer and this will be special for me to have  pb there. i just want them to get a favorable spot so that they maximize whatever potential is there. the heads on this board will go a long way to helping that situation by turning out for their sets and helping create a buzz around the campsite. also, please note that early bird tix are on sale now and will save you a bunch of money if you are attending for the weekend. there are NO one day tickets. if anyone has any other questions about the festival, post them or PM me and i\'ll be glad to help out.

Apparently there are two stages and the tent this year.  Breakfast is playing Sat. nite, on the second stage when Moe breaks......three sets.

Seems like that should be the best space for them in terms of exposing Moe fans to the band.

I agree with all the comparisons everyone has made, but lets not lose focus on how great this could be for the band, everyone has there own opions, I do like moe. alot I have seen them quite a bit , hell rob lives like two towns away from me even ran into him at the grocery store with his kid, I used to go see them before they were big at all in bars. I still think the breakfast is better.
question for all you moe. fans in RI did you all go to the last timmy rock opera there?? that for me was one of thier best shows! Anyway peace out everyone see all at the moe.down or before I am sure!

I was at that show.  I was actually in Spain that entire week, so I missed the 4/20 show.  Went directly from the airport to the show, and got there mid first set.

Apparently there are two stages and the tent this year.  Breakfast is playing Sat. nite, on the second stage when Moe breaks......three sets.

From Melissa, moe.s marketing director: "from what i know the breakfast is playing the beer tent."

the only moe.down i\'ve been to was a couple years ago.  raq one of the bands that was playing the beer tent.  the first set only had about 20 people watching it (it was in the afternoon) but by the 3rd set, the tent was packed along with everybody dancing outside the tent.  once word got out around the campsites to see them, it was on.

BTW, raq TORE it up that night.  Lets hope TB does this, which i\'m sure they will

after the Plantation Club show, I have no doubt in my mind that TB can and will play a powerful night set. The key here, is to have bills for the Breakfast playing the Beer tent. Since it looks like a few of us from the boards will be going to moe.down, it wouldn\'t be a bad idea for us to bring some up and distribute. The more people see, the more people see. People like to be told what is good :)

Fact of the matter is....with something like moe.down you take what they offer and make the most of it.  The is little of no negotiation, because they don\'t have to negotiate.....there are a thousand bands lined up for the gig if you don\'t like the deal.

We think this is as good as spot as there is on this show.  But to be perfectly honest....we would do it no matter what.  We want Moe fans to see the band...and this is the most direct way to do it.

moe. fucking rocks. So does breakfast. I dont see how anyone who likes either one of those bands can not love the other. All moe. fans should be Breakfast fans and vice versa. Its all good and the music is about peace and love. If you bash either band, then you shouldnt support the other...haters.

bump for ride.
So I\'m flying into Syracuse which is a little over an hour from the festivities. I would like to save some $$ and get a ride to the site instead of renting a car. I can totally provide gas $$ and if possible I would also like to pay for a ride back to Syracuse that Monday.

I am ready to buy my airline tix but I would like a confirmation on a ride so I can pick a flight time that is good for the kind soul who helps me out.
TIA

I would, but coming from the opposite direction and won\'t be travelling through \'cuse.  just book the flight though, and don\'t worry.  there will be plenty of .rons travelling from syracuse airport, so you shouldn\'t have trouble finding a ride, try the moe. PT board for a hand.

Thanx a bunch. I can pick pretty much any flight into Syracuse on 9/1 but if you are traveling on 9/2 maybe i should concentrate on getting an EARLY arrival into Syracuse on 9/2?
I am trying to also get a ride from the PTmoe. board but I really want to hang more w/ Bfast folk. Duane(Oldnewbie) has a camping spot for me so I know I\'ll be w/ some huge moe.rons AND Bfast fans through the weekend @ least.

Last year, the first band in the beer tent was at 4:30pm, and first band on the main stage was 5:30pm...previous years were right around there as well.  You\'ll be fine if you are flying in on Friday morning.

BTW - ticket prices are now up to $90.  Last week you could still call Snow Ridge (800.962.8419) and get them there for the $75, even though moe.ticketing was sold out of the first tier tix.

not sure.  I would recommend calling Snow Ridge first to see what they are charging.  They are typically $5 cheaper (less fees) than moe.ticketing (which is essentially MusicToday), even if they are $90.  Also, with dealing with Snow Ridge directly, you will have your tickets about 2 days or so after ordering, whereas MusicToday doesn\'t ship until 2 weeks before the show.

Here\'s the other confirmed moe.down bands if you haven\'t seen this yet.  more to come soon (not sure how soon soon is though):
Keller Williams
Medeski, Martin and Wood
Matisyahu
RAQ
Addison Groove Project
Theresa Anderson

Since our beloved Breakfast will be there this year, I\'m hoping that there will be plenty of candid cameras available to capture photos of Duane and Greg wiping out at Moe Down.

We will probably be able to extract some good Avatars from those photos.

i think they should get "hopefully" 3 sets in the beer tent.  The one year i\'ve been to \'02?? when raq got 3 sets on friday, they packed the place at night.  It was even packed outside the tent.  If they get a main stage stop in the early afternoon, alot of people won\'t go in to see them.  Just my $.02

I for one do not need to see them whiping out anything. If Todd wants to take shots of that he\'s more deviant than I thought. Now however if there are pics of them "wiping out" that would be ser.

No I\'m fairly certain I placed them as the second best band out here . TLG and ALO are 2 entirely different sounds. ALO dance grooves galore. TLG straight ahead rock and roll.
Oh and if you don\'t know BY NOW you will never dig a band like you dig Bfast it\'s just something I have recently come to accept.

I have seen shows by TLG that have come close to the energy of a Bfast set CLOSE. The thing abt The Bfast is they ALWAYS have high energy doozie or not. It is pretty incredible when you actually think about it. I have never seen or heard of them "going through the motions".
Anyway TLG does sell well enuff out here to get a side stage opening act for DMB @ The Gorge. If they were blowing up b4, after this all heck will break loose. I pray The Bfast set @ moe.down has a similar effect on the NE region.

one of the intangibles of the moe.down is the love that moe.rons have develped for the town of turin, ny. often time the festival is referred to as "are you going to turin?".
the town seems to welcome the scene and tolerates the freaks nicely. this now being the 6th time we will be visiting and unless they outgrow it, it\'s reasonable to assume that they will be back there next year. my point? i think that shakedown street would be a great cover for the festival. i\'m sure they won\'t do many (if any) covers but i would love to see this one busted out at the right time. maybe even invite al. for a sit in. it could be a real highlight to the whole festival IMO. i can picture the whole crowd singing along "don\'t tell me this town ain\'t got no heart". there are many other covers equally as worthy for consideration but i\'m putting in my plea for shakedown street. well, well, well, you can never tell!

Duane, how long have you been a Moe fan?  I already know Gregg\'s Moe history from asking him on our old car rides from MA to CT Breakfast shows.

We are probably lucky to have you two on board for this festival to help plan out some of the details and provide meaningful suggestions.

I can\'t wait to hear the stories (and the recording) of this show.  Definitely going to be a highlight of the year for both the band and fans.

al, i\'ve been seeing moe. regularly since 99. my first exposure that made any impact was at the furthur festival and when i saw them on their own, i was hooked. at first i was going to shows by myself because all my deadhead friends were content to stay at home and pout. eventually, one by one, they started coming around. i met scott due to being a moe.ron and he quickly turned me on to pb. so you could say that moe. is indirectly responsible for me being a serhead. i love going to moe. shows and this month i will cross the 50 mark. this will be my 4th moe.down and it\'s the best weekend of the summer. i\'ve made many friends around the country and it\'s become an awesome social event with a great house band. it\'s been a dream of mine to get the breakfast here, so needless to say i am really looking forward to it. i saw seth yac, nero and p/groove (to a lesser extent IMO) just blow away the scene at this festival and i know for a fact that our boys are so much better than any of these bands. i\'m very excited at the prospect of the breakfast being the buzz of the festival. i\'m also excited my family of breakfast friends to share the great vibe that i have felt every year in turin. moe. throws a great party and i\'m happy lots of my friends will be coming along. if anyone has any questions about the weekend, post them or pm me and i will be happy to tell you what i know. what i DO know is, that i cain\'t wait!!!

turin is about 4 hrs from new haven straight through albany past utica.
last year there was about 7500 people. i don\'t think it will be any bigger this year due to a relatively weak lineup. the same 5000 moe.rons show up and the rest depends on the other bands.

there is no overlapping music at moe.down, so beertent bands play in between mainstage bands.  the stages are fairly close to another so it wouldn\'t be the best of things to have both bands on at the same time.

if all of these bands, minus moe.,  were playing on the same night in various venues around the country by themselves....they might bring in ten thousand paying customers TOTAL! NMAS is the cream of this crop IMO with AGP and TLG drawing my interest along with MMW and keller (i havn\'t seen him) moe.org dropped the ball this year. they scrambled for NMAS to save the day, but they\'ve definately taken a step back. we know that the breakfast will blow the place up, but how many people do you think honestly are coming to this festival to see the breakfast. me and you make 1 and 1/2. (2 1/2 if you count igzi)
moe.ticketing is famous for about ten days prior to the event.
timmy acoustic would prolly have to be a campground thing that might not be reasonably done. he cain\'t do it when other bands are playing i don\'t think and late night might/would get shutdown.a saturday night after moe hit and run prank thing might work.bottom line...i don\'t see it.
Title: "moe. down" 05
Post by: Igziabeher on July 28, 2005, 10:13:19 pm
i don\'t see why it would get shut down latenight.  the campground is pretty friggen big.  and if it were in a lowkey spot, it would barely go noticed.  hell, i\'ve definitely seen enough late night \'disco\' tents to know it getting shut down is highly unlikely.

oh and if the plea is about shakedown.  i\'d rather hear karn evil 9, Hush, or In The Flesh.

first of all, get a godamn room

now, in comparison to last year\'s line up, i would have to agree that this year\'s is a little weak (but the breakfast will change all of that, of course). last year\'s line up included the disco biscuits, blues traveler, jfjo, leo kottke, john brown\'s body, perpetual groove, leftover salmon mf&spearhead among others all aside from moe. still, i would have to say that the late night last year kind of sucked..maybe i was with the wrong people or the wrong place or something, but at the end of the night when there should of been a party, there really wasn\'t. i think a tim solo would be awesome and i highly doubt he would get the boot. i think it would be ridiculous if he played up on the shakedown, the beer/latenight tent gets kind of annoying and you can\'t bring beer in with you.

i think on the main stage, they would play early in the day, and not that many people would go in to see them.  On the tent stage, if they play between two big acts, more people will see them casue they are already in the concert area.  It looks like raq is getting a couple (3) sets on friday.
Title: "moe. down" 05
Post by: leith on August 17, 2005, 01:29:55 pm
When I saw the schedule yesterday I was so bummed that The Breakfast had other folk playing with them in the Tent while RAQ had it all to themselves. I assume this means they get waaaaay less playing time. Hopefully they blow minds so much w/ the time allotted that moe. has no choice but to invite them back nxt year to be a MAIN Stage act.
TLG has the mother of all jamband management right now. The gigs they are getting are so sweet it\'s ridiculous.

nah, don\'t worry.  i guarantee Saturday\'s schedule will look something along the lines of this:

>Joemama & The Funk Daddys
Before Cowboys
>Joemama
The Redwalls
>Big Frog
moe.
>Big Frog
North Mississippi Allstars
>The Breakfast
MMW
>The Breakfast
moe.
>The Breakfast
moe.

Raq has Friday to themselves, but music doesn\'t start til like 4 or so on Friday, plus there is only 1 moe. set, so it will end up being the same amount of time for both bands.

oh and ser job on the 1000th post, Igzibahgizzer.
