Title: Let's say there might be a badass festival this year in NH
Post by: bdfreetuna on February 22, 2012, 08:18:20 pm
what bands do you want to hear.

I can confirm the ground is 10x more beautiul and festival worthy.

This is luxury outdoor camping.

Some of the bands we realy hoped for may or may not be on the list. I'm guessing may not be but they probably have a chance to change their min

Either way the early line up looks sick and I hope everyone supports the Bonsall funded, organized  and myself as advertising and promo. We do not intend to let anyone down in fact this will be way better than Breakfest II except for the chance of a few different headliners.

I'm probably not even  supposed to open my mouth but I'm wondering:

Who do you want to play?
Who do you think will guarantee good draw without a huge salarary?
What bands should the Fusion Festival book?

Breakfest Music Fastival is dead. Bonstall and with my help whatever  I can provide will deliver something even better this year... minus our favorite band.

Big UP is OUT this year. We have an apportunity to draw people in and make Fusion Fest a yearly name.

"OUCH!" No Breakfest...boo hoo hoo!
Waylon Speed is a happening band. They're from Vermont & may bring some Vermont peeps.
Pretty Lights draws, but may cost a bit. May just want to avoid whatever the Big Up did wrong. Too many acts may eat up the money.
Less may be more. Quality, not quantity! You could fill up time with all the musicians there jamming together through the night! Till sunrise!
Timbre Coup, Skyfoot, Shakedown, Hot Chaos... is Kung Fu an option?

I can't say that I'm surprised by this... last we heard it was supposed to be still on, right?  Was there communication with the band earlier that they were still interested and then that changed?

Even though it would not be BreakFest... I think it would be a good idea to include or at least invite each member's group(s) that they have been involved with recently:
-Kung Fu
-Z3
-Beatles A-Z
-Good Time Boys (most likely not an option, but worth consideration)
-DBB (long shot but a possibility)
-RAQ (could at least make the invitation)
-Bang Bang
-Darian Cunning Band (w/ Chris, I know there are other groups he's sat in with but I can't think of names off the top of my head)
-Viral Sound (w/ Jordan)
-Cosmic Dust Bunnies (w/Jordan)
-Elemental (the one off project did a few months ago)

Theoretically, you could try and get many of the groups/individuals they have shared a bill/gig with as well...
-Dopapod
-Papadosio
-The Werks (I'm pretty sure they're doing a few co-bills on the upcoming South Tour)
-WYLLYS & the NY Hustler Ensemble
-Van Ghost (another one of JHa's groups)

In theory, its a doable festival...I definitely think there is the possibility to build off the the B'fam and the groups they are connected with.  If you can't get the real thing, might as well try for the closest thing you can get...

if a festival is happening in NH, it should be primarily NH/VT/mass/upstate bands if you want a good turnout. CT breakfast fans are notoriously bad travelers even when the breakfast is playing, so i wouldn't even focus on the breakfast aspect. and i doubt NHers will come out to see a bunch of CT/NY bands they're not familiar with.

i'd focus on a band that has a good following already, is semi-local, and is very willing to headline a festival that isn't "their own" (e.g. indobox, higher organix), add a few up and coming bands that are super willing to get a decent slot at a fest (e.g. cosmic dust bunnies, psychedelphia, etc, etc), get some djs to spin all sorts of shit (they're cheap), and maybe some friends' bands that are willing to play for little $ (e.g. weird beards). also, make it as cheap as possible and get plenty of artsy people who will do some good visual design for a free ticket/perks. also, don't make it all jambands/djs. gotta mix it up with some indie/folk if you know local bands that can do it. separate yourself from the crowd with an interesting lineup.

essentially, make it the big up minus the top 1/3 of the bill.

Essentially a festival without the bands that draw a crowd...  Setting up a show for essentially locals - doozer...

Well if the Breakfast is not playing... which is not 100% confirmed either way but thats what it looks like... I'm not sure how I feel about Kung Fu taking that spot

Akashic Record, Groove Shoes, Psychedelphia, Indobox, Roots of Creation, maybe Z3 and Beau Sasser Trio

or hell Kung Fu could headline along with Dopapod

I guess Kung Fu, Dopapod, Otis Grove, Higher Organix, Newton Crosby, Indobox and jimkata would make for a fun time.

This basically confirms what I was already thinking. Bummer.
ETA: Heads in Harmony had a great line-up last year and was very affordable, I'd say they're a pretty good model for small/grassroots festie.

I have been telling jimkata would be a good idea but hes never heard of them.

I think they'd be perfect, not charge too much, and bring heads from Albany area.

Essentially setting up something more viable for long term growth without getting in over his head in debt. Sounds great. Since the location has moved, name changed and The Breakfast most likely will not be involved it seems the groundwork is being laid for something that can last longer than a singular band based fest like BMF I and II.
Good work guys!!

Yeah Breakfast confirmed. Now that their name isn't on it, I'm sure they were more than happy to play it.

not familiar w/ about half of those acts but the Breakfast, Indobox, Stepkids and Dopapod should make for a good turnout, I would think.  RoC doesn't really do it for me, and never saw Otis Grove but heard good things.  Bujak is Bujak, which is good.  not familiar w/ any of those DJ's but its all the same so hopefully you got them at a good price

still don't know why the Weird Beards haven't been there yet.  And wiredchicken was trying to get Newton Crosby on the lineup, which would be a good add and should bring some heads up from NJ.
