I had to give it to sundance. I really like the queebs this year, but I wanted at least one person to have voted for sundance so I figured I\'d give up the vote.
As far as composition, sundance is a better song. To bad they just rip the shit out of queeb, simplistic as it is.
If psygn had won I would have been all buquebus.
-
Ok let\'s play over/under: Buquebus wins by over/under 15 votes? I say over! I agree, poor Sundance...

Wolfman Breakfast Statistician installs Buquebus as a 23 vote favorite in the final. Place your bets.
That being said, allow me to make the case for Sundance. (Somebody\'s gotta do it. Saddam gets a lawyer...Ross Perot had a campaign manager...in this great country, you still deserve representation even if you\'re obviously f-ed from the get-go. It\'s the American way people! :flag:)
Sundance is the thinking person\'s choice for champion. Let\'s start off with jamability. Sundance is right there with Attraction to Shade Ditty and Wake Up In A Coma for best Breakfast intro jam. Sundance is often colossal before it even begins. (Radio Joe 5/5/01 for a great set-opening Sundance intro jam.) Can\'t say that about Buquebus. Queeb you have to wait for them to get the first verses and chorus out of the way before the tune picks up. Sundance then has a second jam right after the first set of vocals that has unlimited potential and is often the best jam of a set. The same can certainly be said for the second Buquebus jam, so second jam is a wash. Overall jamming edge I can give to Buquebus because Buquebus jams are bigger on average, but I have seen both songs taken to the same height on their best night. Compositionally it\'s not even close. Sundance has incredible chord structure, Zappa-esqe jazz figures, crazy time signatures, the works. Highly effective, engaging, and challenging. Buquebus composition is clearly written at a lesser level. The simplicity is effective but not noteworthy. It\'s the same 4-bar phrases repeated over and over, right from the first notes of the song. Vocally again Sundance takes the edge. Somebody find me melodies and harmonies in Buquebus as well done as the "hop and a skip starting on your good side" (etc.) lines and the entire "let\'s see your face in the sky" section. Can\'t do it. Sundance actually uses 5 distinct vocal melodies to Buquebus\' 2. Finally, there\'s the frequency corollary. Buquebus is probably the band\'s most popular song and gets plenty of play. Sundance is definitely the most underrated song and hearing it is a treat and adds an element of specialness to a show. It takes a true serhead to vote for Sundance. Nothing wrong with a vote for Buquebus, it\'s a great song, but a vote for Sundance shows a deep level of Breakfast understanding.
There, I made the case. Someone had to take the challenge. I have never voted against Buquebus. I have proclaimed it as my favorite Breakfast song since day one. But I\'ve always been a huge Sundance backer as well. And for today I am proud to take Sundance over the monster of Buquebus. It\'s much like the NCAA basketball tournament where you just have to love the underdog going up against the goliath. There\'s something undeniably endearing about it.
"Free your mind this may take a little while
Once in line, you feel the surroundings smile now"

Sundance is definitely the most underrated song "
:that:
It has never really garnered any acclaim until very recently. Though I haven\'t been very vocal about it, I have always thought it was a great song, and remember conversations with Wolfman about it 5 years ago. As a longstanding member of the Breakfast catalog, it hasn\'t been played as much as it should have been.
-
I\'m actually shocked that Sundance has made it this far. Not bad at all for a song that has been played only 7 times this year.

Rufus is dead

You\'re right, Sundance is also the most underplayed song if you\'re considering a ratio of "times played" to "general serness". Kote would come in second in this category. Even though Kote\'s general serness isn\'t near Sundance\'s, the times played for Kote is incredibly low especially relative to how good the song is. Kote is becoming like Destiny Unbound; good song, not great, but never gets played for some reason and is a very tough shelving overall.
I think Sundance does give up its longstanding title as "most underrated song" after finshing as the runner up in this year\'s Tournament of Tunes. What\'s next? I think it goes to either Frankly Po Zest or Cosmic Spaceway Rhyme.

Thanks for the 5/5/01 steer. I\'ve been meaning to ask Sundance fans for favs. I\'ve only heard them play it in person once or twice, and those were years ago. When I first saw it in the tourney I actually had to click it to remember how it went.
I\'ve been listening to performances of it the past 3 weeks and it\'s grown on me.
I\'ll say enough .infoers already know what I just found out.
Gimme $5 on Sundance and the points.

I\'m surprised to see that Sundance has been played that many times. The downward trend in annual frequency isn\'t surprising. Buquebus has received consistent play since inception.
Thanks for the 5/5/01 steer.
5/5/01 is a great pick of older PB shows. 2001 was really a breakout year, as the band released Deuce and began to spread the music beyond a 100-mile radius.

this closes out at noon the day of Rocks Off! So I vote that the winner gets the VIP treatment, with some sort of serwhich or somethign of the like. A Queeb Sundance battle would be Xtra SER.
-
A Queeb Sundance battle would be Xtra SER.
Battle on the Boat!

Battle on the Boat!
That would be AWESOME!!!!
-
So Buquebus wins and I have to say it\'s a well-deserved victory.
I\'d also like to say that I think the tournament worked out well as several classics, cinderellas, and johnny-come-lately\'s put forth quality showings. There were several matchups that came down to the wire, which to me, is the sign of a competitive bracket.
Thanks to everyone who voted and thanks to Dave for hashing out the technical stuff.

Team Queeb fo Life!!!
-
hahaha, I didn\'t even vote.
-
unless you have 8 or 9 accounts on .info it wouldn\'t have really mattered......
-
well, I would have voted for Buquebus anyways.
I didn\'t believe I needed to vote, Buquebus can handle its own.
-
WHaTTT?
-
How ironic that I have a "Vote Buquebus" banner in my signature and I\'m the one who forgets to vote.

I forgot to vote as well . . .
I was pulling for Sundance to pull the upset even though I knew it probably wouldn\'t so I put off voting for a few days and just plain forget meanwhile Team Queeb reigns supreme once again.
-
buquebus is just slightly better then sundance
-
poll over.... queeb pulls through without a doubt... :bantnge:
