oh, I\'m over it... Hate all you want, but I\'ll take rush over b\'fast any day of the week. It\'s a no brainer. Also, I\'ve seen rush only like 5 times, whereas breakfast I\'ve seen multiples of times. Maybe I miss a ser headie show braugh? possibly, but it appears the way the reviews tend to go that every show they do is better than the last, so I\'ll be ok hitting 2 out of a 3 night run.

so, i don\'t know if you all have found a hotel or whatnot yet.  i looked up some rates for hotels and here is what i got:

Water Street Suites ~~~> $249/night, suitable for 4 people  (i know it\'s a bit expensive, split evenly for 2 nights comes out to about $125 a person).  I stayed here last year and the place is pretty cool and is nicely located in the center of all the chaos (about 2 minutes from Cpt. Nick\'s).  we were actually able to get 6 people in there on the hush hush.  The room we stayed in had 2 beds and a pull out couch.  also, jocelyn, this place would be very easy to sneak your dog in and out because there is no lobby to walk through.  it\'s basically just the rooms.

New Shoreham House~~~> $79/night for 2 people; $99/night for 4 people.  i\'m not sure if this is the place that people have been banned from, but that\'s about the best deal i\'ve seen for BI hotels.  other than that, the prices are ridonculous!

and if no one wants to go down on these places...i\'ll be giving scenic night-time tours of BI if people want to join ;)

PLEASE DO NOT MENTION YOUR AFFILIATION WITH THE BREAKFAST IF YOU ARE STAYING AT THE NEW SCHORHAM INN......you will be thrown out immediately.

to be honest, if i were to even get a room at all on bi, i wasn\'t gonna mention tB or anyone affiliated with tB...yeah, i heard what went on there last time.  ;)

I\'d be interested in the Water St suites if I can find a couple other people to throw in on it. That is if THEY don\'t mind a dog.

Rather pumped for this June vacation.

Also, since BI is primarily a summer getaway, we are looking for people who will be on the island earlier in the day on Wednesday June 27th for promotional help. We need to let people know the day of the show, its also a free show, so it is at no lose to them. Let me know if anyone is willing to help, we can get you a guest list spot ;).

i have to see when the last ferry is leaving and i have to iron out a couple other details but i might head over the night before.

spacey...i think i get out of work at 1:30 that wednesday and then i\'m gonna head over to BI.  i\'ll def. help with promoting the show.  anything to help out tB...especially in RI.

derick...the last ferry to the island is at 7pm.  i think it\'s 7 every week day.  coming back to galilee is a different story though.

I spoke with someone last night that was thinking of bringing their car over to the island. Just an fyi for anyone else thinking the same...you have to make a reservation on the ferry for your car. Better do it soon, before they get booked up.

I guess you have to stay in your own "separate" place (not attached to any one) with animals.
The Spears\' are also staying there with Sophie (I think right next to us).

Should be lots of fun.

Did the taints forget the fliers in the van or were they never handed to the taints and just sat in the van until someone remembered about? There was no sense in giving them fliers a week before the show.

Damn i just noticed Ryan Montbleau is at Captian Nicks tonight and tomorrow... would have been nice to make sure there is a Poster up in the window promoting the Breakfast in a couple weeks. And Les is at the Roxy... would have been nice to get someone to promote the Boat Cruise in a couple weeks to......... I\'ll be at Page tonight at Lupos in Prov. and maybe stop by Mahavishnu Project at a new club in Prov. called Decible which used to be/ still is a ROCK venue right around the corner from the Century Lounge...... could have potential to be a new downtown Prov. venue....... well i\'ll be doing what i need to do, hopefully it help the cause somewhat

The venues will have posters/handbills shortly.

Down to 3 weeks. Going to be a blast!

6 weeks is ideal but with BI having the population changing weekly it might not matter as much. 4 weeks is still good time with this.

Besides out major effort is to get out on BI that weekend and get the people on the island out to this bar rather than the other 3 or 4 on the island.

have faith and its our fault they didn\'t go out sooner.

I was hoping someone would bring this up.  The most relevant people are the ones staying on the island when we\'re there.  Outside of that, the world is irrelevant for promoting.

Exactly because there are so many people that visit the island daily and weekly in the summer. If we have a few posters up then maybe the fulltimers will come or some of the people who arrive for the weekends.

I personally believe that the attendance for this show is going to rely on the efforts of the Wild Pack the week and days leading up to the show.

If people are interested we are throwing together a little crew to hit up the island for those couple of days to hand out and hang up posters. Good way to meet some people and kill your day before the show.

this is all very true spaceman...maybe us RIers can get out to BI sometime soon to start putting up posters.  this way the locals and other RIers that go to BI for shits and giggles will be aware of the show well in advance.  there are plenty of people that have houses on BI but do not reside there all year round, so putting up signs sooner than later might make a better showing.  know what i mean?

Do you still have a truck?

Nope, no truck anymore. I currently drive the Official Car of Ex-Hippies Now Well-Off Lesbians: a Subaru Outback.

The camping isn\'t the issue... Sadie is happy enough to sleep with me in a tent.

It\'s a matter of needing somewhere for her to hang when I am in the shows/out and about in places that don\'t allow dogs. She can\'t just sit in my car; she\'d bake. And besides the idea of her sitting all cramped in my car makes me sad.

Yeah, Captain Nick probably wouldn\'t accomodate the dog at the show (though plenty of bars out here let people bring dogs in).

Is kennel Ma and Pa Hawe out of the question?

definitely a bummer joc...totally forgot about your  pup...the offer still stands if you want to keep her at my house in warwick.  my neighbors would be more than willing to babysit.  they\'re already gonna watch over my 2 cats and iguana.  and i\'m leaving my door unlocked so they\'d be able to let sadie in and out of the heat whenever she wants...plus they have AC (although my house stays really cool because it\'s shaded all day).  and she wouldn\'t be lonely because they would be with her at all times.  the only thing you would need to provide them with is some food.  oh...and sadie would also have to be cat/dog friendly.  ya know...don\'t want to upset my kitties and/or their dog.  just let me know so i can pass the word along.  :)

who\'s going both nights, and how hard is it to find a place to stay / camp / get car over / etc?  i havent been to block island since i was a kid and i think i remember everything being pretty complicated.  is there info on here about reservations and stuff?  i think i\'ll look for a hotel for the 1st nite and then leave after the 2nd show - is that even possible ferry-wise?

rooms many be hard to find at this point, it is the weekend before the 4th of July. the last freey leaves the island around 6 i think so leaving isn\'t an option. you also need to make a reservation to bring a car over because there are a limited amount of spots to bring cars over. if you really want to do all that i suggest you do it right away.

Are people leaving from Point Judith? I would because (I believe someone mentioned this earlier), you leave and get dropped off right at the Wheelhouse, no better way, IMHO. Point Judith ferry in Narragansett to Wheelhouse is .7 miles and the Point Judith Ferry lets you off like .2 miles from Captain Nicks.

I believe (if you are from around this area)...& you are going to the island by ferry...you would either have to leave from Point Judith or Newport.....

as early as I can. I have all day Wednesday off and plan to leave CT moderately early, I have no interest being there at sun up but maybe in the afternoon. Not sure since I have no idea what I am really doing, all I know is there are 2 free shows on an island in the middle of the sound and I\'ll be making my way to them.

Whatever happens, happens.

What are some of the recreation plans for the daytime while on the island?

-biking
-walking/jogging
-basketball/beach volleyball/tennis
-rock skipping
-swimming
-surfing
-kayaking
-(please don\'t tell me there will be people rocking the tank all day and night long)

I suppose I\'ll start thinking about which ferry to catch in the days prior to Wed.

I better bring some super heady b-ball shoes to put the kibosh on your game.  The only thing that\'s gonna stop my shot is a strong ocean breeze [(or a major hangover) or Booztravlr - I think he plays in a league].

Since I\'ll be in New England for the week, I plan on buying a new b-ball for the occasion.

Who knows, maybe we can get a .info exclusive beach volleyball game?  I\'m sure there will be too many casualties of latenight during the day to fill two sides of a court.

Kayaks would be fun.  Maybe I can get some psychos together and plan a paddle around the entire island (I\'m sure Peck and Zappa are the only ones crazy enough for that).

now that i think of it, there is no way that i will ever make the 11:45 ferry. 1:30 it is.

Aniiice! Not to be a buzz kill though...did you check on docking availability? Also...that\'s a pretty expensive way to go, what with gas prices being so high. Probably going to cost quite a bit of $$$ to get there and back. Also, if there is water skiing involved, count me in! ;)

Quote from: Wikipedia
Block Island is an island in the Atlantic Ocean approximately ten miles south of the coast of Rhode Island. It is separated from the mainland by Block Island Sound. As of the 2000 census it had a population of 1,010 living on a land area of 25.211 kmē (9.734 sq mi). The island is a fragment of glacial terminal moraine (tracing through the Outer Lands region).[1]

Beaches

Crescent Beach: This beach can be viewed from the Pt. Judith Ferry run by Interstate Navigation on the way to the island. It contains three smaller beaches, Fred Benson Town Beach (still popularly known as "State Beach" due to its former status as one), Scotch Beach, and Mansion Beach, all of which are semi-safe for swimming and line Corn Neck Road. "State Beach" is the only beach on the island with on duty life guards, as well as a beach pavilion with food and boogie board/chair rentals. For smaller children, the "Surf Beach" or "Baby Beach" that begins at the Surf Hotel, near the Beachhead offers calm water for smaller children.

Black Rock: Black Rock is known as the island\'s nude beach on the island. It can be quite a bit more rough than Crescent beach, and the beach can also be very rocky. This beach is not recommended for small children.

Ballard\'s Beach: Ballard\'s Beach is the premiere location for adults to go and be able to consume alcohol. The Beach is owned and operated by Ballard\'s, a bar and restaurant which has entertainment and a relaxed atmosphere. This beach is right on the left of the Ferry Docks and is usually crowded. This beach is not recommended for small children.

Most beaches on Block Island are not safe for swimming, and the beaches at and near North Point are extremely dangerous as there is a strong undertow.

Tourist Locations

Block Island contains a number of locations for tourists besides the beach.

Southeast Lighthouse: Located directly off of Spring Street on the Mohegan Trail, visitors can climb a staircase to the top of the lighthouse during the summer.

Mohegan Bluffs: Located directly next to the Southeast Lighthouse, the Bluffs are the site of a battle between the invading Mohegan Indians, and the native Manisee Indians in which the Mohegans were driven off the edge of the tall cliffs to their deaths on the beach below. Today, one can walk down a long staircase to the bottom of these clay cliffs and look out over the Atlantic. On clear days, Montauk, New York can be seen in the distance from the southwestern side of the island.

North Lighthouse: Located at the very northern tip of Block Island, at the end of Corn Neck Road, the North Light warns boaters of a stretch of dangerous shallow waters.

Farmers Market: Held every Saturday and Wednesday during the summer, the farmers market contains many island grown vegetables and island made goods, including bees-wax candles and honey. The times and location can vary, so check with the local newspaper, The Block Island Times, for more information.

I\'ve been over to it twice in the past few years.  If you go down the steps by the Bluffs, take a right (facing the ocean), and walk to the rocks, there is supposedly a designated "nude" area.  I saw gross people there both times, though, so I don\'t think anyone would want to get naked in the area! :vomit::lol:

Post by: melanie on June 19, 2007, 10:48:24 am
i\'ve heard prices on everything are ridiculous on the island because its so difficult to get things there ($7 box of rice krispies?) ... so what are you bringing and how are you carrying it?
I\'m thinking small suitcase that has both wheels and straps + a backpack.
Obviously, swimsuits and a few clothes ...
but also basic food items like chips and granola bars,
but here\'s the heavy stuff like booze (the more concentrated the better), juice and soda.  i\'m pretty sure i am going to at least make an attempt; maybe skip the soda and juice in the end though.

hey we\'ve still got boston in between - lots of breakfast and boats in the next week! :disco:

jess - somebody posted that it was either cheaper or the same to buy liquor over there so we might be better off not carrying it (or much of it).

well since we are less than a week away, I figured i\'d check the weather.....

Wed- 78/67 w/ a 30% chance of precipitation - Isolated Thunder Storms

Thurs - 74/62 w/ a 30% chance of precipitation - Few showers

So considering its a breakfast run, this weather doesnt look too bad thus far.......

Whether or not Peaches\' mom is a knockout remains to be seen ;)

As for that chick hypnotized by the PME, I hope she and her boyfriend are there for another knockout.

Or maybe Peaches\' mom will be fawning over T.Palms, resulting a taintly knockout of our favorite guitarist?

thats funny about Peaches.

This young girl\'s boyfriend was looking to roll in the sand with her, not her and Tim. The little lady did end up rolling in the sand, except she was punched to the sand.
