Lonely feeling deep inside
Find a corner where I can hide
Silent footsteps crowding me
Sudden darkness but I can see
No sugar tonight in my coffee
No sugar tonight in my tea
No sugar to stand beside me
No sugar to run with me
(Dat’n-doo-dow-dow-dat’n-doo-dow...)
In the silence of her mind
Quiet movements where I can find
Grabbing for me with her eyes
Now I’m falling from her skies
No sugar tonight in my coffee

No sugar to stand beside me
No sugar to run with me

Jocko says "Yes," and I believe him
When we talk about the things I say
She hasn’t got the faith or the guts to leave him
When they’re standing in each other’s way
You’re tripping back now to places you’ve been to
You wonder what you’re gonna find
You know you’ve been wrong but it won’t be long
Before you leave ‘em all far behind
‘Cause it’s the new Mother Nature taking over
It’s the new Splendid lady come to call
It’s the new Mother Nature taking over
She’s gettin’ us all
She’s gettin’ us all.
Jocko said "No," when I came back last time
It’s looking like I lost a friend
No use callin’ ‘cause the sky is fallin’
And I’m getting pretty near the end
A smoke-filled room in a corner basement
The situation must be right
A bag of goodies and a bottle of wine
We’re gonna get it on right tonight
‘Cause it’s the new Mother Nature taking over
It’s the new Splendid Lady come to call
It’s the new Mother Nature taking over
She’s gettin’ us all
She’s getting’ us all...

I usually do the same thing as you, Gordo...see a new band or hear them, then put it on the back burner for a long while and hate myself later for not devoting enough time to it. However, when I saw TB, I instantly knew that if I didn\'t jump on the opportunity to be a part of this community, I would seriously be missing out. Interesting read here. (http://lib1.store.vip.sc5.yahoo.com/lib/itsaboutmusic/jakeholmes.pdf)
Learned my new thing for the day. Day= complete.
You know Zeppelin and Page in particular did nothing that is not done by many many other musical acts. He changed the lyrics and some of the music. Yeah it is a blatent ripoff in my opinion but not to ASCAP and that is the only opinion that counts in court. Zeppelin have not and never will disappoint me. They wrote too many other non ripped off tunes to matter. I look @ it this way Page\'s version sold millions the other guy\'s did not. Which is better? Well the buying public has spoken. PAGE\'S!!!!!!!!!!!!
(for example that shitty new R&B song that uses Stevie Wonder\'s "Superstition" funk melody line...not sure who redid it)
When I speak of Jerry profitting from other\'s works I speak mainly of the numerous tunes labeled as Traditional Arranged by Grateful Dead. Many of them like Don\'t Ease Me In even Aiko have other authors that are not compensated due to having created the songs prior to ASCAP etc. They just happen to be labeled as "Folk Traditionals" So what no credit due these people? Some of these songs are recorded so how can Jerry just rearrange some of the songs closest to the version he happened to hear and than make money off it by saying the arrangement is changed and that\'s it while Page changes lyrics ,arrangements AND ADDS New music to the piece and is wrong in doing so?

Running to me a-cryin’, on your own again.
You’ve got that pure feel, such good responses,
But the picture has a mustache.
You’re coming to me with that soulful look on your face,
Coming looking like you’ve never ever done one wrong thing.

The reason I ask is because more people may try to book Tim for private parties (more income for our favorite guitarist) when the band isn\'t playing.

flower punk is def a good tune, just not as a cover by a band capable of mastering just about anything.
Oh and how about bringing back King of the World ? It\'s an eclectic choice of cover because who covers Steely Dan right?
Now that they have keys again they need to bring back SYLVIA

F all these easy rock cover songs. Play something complicated like Foam. I know they\'re playing Lawn Boy for halloween so they don\'t really to throw any more Phish songs into limited rotation but Foam has each member playing on a different time scale. This would showcase their ability to play more complicated songs as well as crowd pleasers.
I wouldn\'t mind seeing them do these:
Radiohead - Paranoid Android
Rage - Ghost of Tom Joad
yea, but the springsteen version is solo acoustic. Nothing against nebraska, but if the band was going to cover it, it\'s the rage version. Tim solo, springsteen.
That\'s like saying anyone who covers hendrixs\' watchtower is covering a dylan song. Yes they are, but it\'s a completely different style and a much harder song to play.

despite writing Watchtower, Dylans been doin\' it like Hendrix since the 70\'s.
what about "rift"....now thatd be ser!
i would like to hear them bust out a mahavishnu tune, miles beyond would be sick, leaves lots of room to improv and shred
How about Dylan\'s "Leopard-Skin Pill-Box Hat?" :)
Awesome to see that this thread is still going, its been awhile since I\'ve logged in......anyways have to say I\'ve been listening to "Psychedelic Breakfast Live at Toad\'s Place on 2001-01-26" and they do the most sickest "Echidna\'s Arf (Of You)"
FUCKING AWESOME!! Anyone know any other shows they play this tune. Dave? They should bring this cover back.

go to archive.org and in the search type Breakfast Arf and a whole slew of em pop up
machine gun - hendrix
i\'ve never heard a shitty bfast echidnas arf. 1-26-01 is all around a really great show. as far as setlists go, its pretty much perfect for that era, and the echidnas>garcian makes me go nuts. everytime.
Morning Dew
Quote from: tyzack;197254Morning Dew
I really, really love this song.... But I do NOT think the Breakfast have any business playing it...
i really wish they\'d bring bak some zappa covers. i can\'t help it, they are one of the only bands that can pull them off and it is sick everytime. willie the pimp at stonechurch is the only zappa cover since matt joined the band, and that barely counts. i\'m talking aboout some ser arf, cleetus, peaches, pygmy, shit like that. fuck it, lets hear a cheepnis

With cover songs there are always three basic options:
1.) Cover the original recording
2.) Cover a cover
3.) Make the song over with a structure more akin to the performing bands tastes/abilities/likings

You forgot the fourth option: not playing it at all.

It would be great to get some Zappa back in rotation. Also, please bring back Space Oddity and/or 2001!
If they\'re going to cover a Grateful Dead song I think The Other One or The Eleven would be more fitting that Morning Dew.

Agreeded in terms of playing style;
Cosmic Charlie, St. Stephen, The Elven, (full) The Other One, or New Potato Cabose, would all be good breakfast tunes.
Maybe Caution...
The Other One was the only Dead cover that I always enjoyed at Breakfast shows (and Help > Slip, though I only saw it live once).
Granted, I was not around during the Terrapin Station days.
space oddity is a must, and it will be done and i know the show where it will make its return

The version you\'re more likely to have heard is by Manfred Mann\'s Earth Band, but the song was written and originally performed by The Boss.

there are still a few of us out there
 btw, it\'s "revved up like a deuce," guys! ;)
Does this thread have any bearing on songs actually played?
fool in the rain would be fun, esp. with the ser guitar solo
Springsteen: Cut loose like a deuce
Manfred Mann: Revved up like a deuce
The Breakfast: Dropped like a deuce
Well Holy Shit! Blinded By The Light is definitely a Bruce tune, which is ruined by Manfred Man. He changed the lyrics, but even worse, when he sings the chorus it sounds like "rapped up like a douche". That being said, there are several songs that he wrote that people forget that are his:
- Blinded By The Light
- Because The Night
- Fire (Robert Gordon version)
- Pink Cadillac
- The Ghost of Tom Joad
- The Fever
I know that there are a lot of Bruce haters and a few fans on the site, but no one can take away his past and current accomplishments. Bruce and the E-Street are respected throughout the music community. Additionally, he has released 15 studio albums and 7 live albums, won 18 grammys, won an academy award, and has been inducted into Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Songwriters Hall of Fame and New Jersey Hall of Fame. He has performed with Van Morrison, Roy Orbison, Bob Dylan, Ringo Starr, George Harrison, Johnny Cash, U2, R.E.M., Billie Joe Armstrong, Eric Clapton, Donovan, Billy Joel, David Bowie, David Gray, John Lennon, Neil Diamond, Mark Knopfler, Kris Kristofferson, Joe Dolan, Paul McCartney, Elvis Costello, Blur, Oasis, Sting, The Beach Boys, Thin Lizzy, Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, Jeff Buckley, Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne, Willie Nelson, Johnny Rivers, Rory Gallagher, Elton John, Queen, and Rod Stewart.
And for a guy who\'ll be 60 years old next year, he still puts on 3+ hour shows based on pop tunes, that\'s 25-30 songs each show; which he changes from show to show.
You may not like his music, but you must respect his place as part of music history.

ALSO, PLAY SOME YES! Once St00ps is onboard they should learn Five Percent For Nothing wich runs a whopping total of 0:38 seconds and is a really badass song they could squeeze into any set. Five Percent For Nothing>Long Distance Runaround>Fish (Schindleria Praematurus) would be ideal. Or whatever they feel like I don\'t care just cover some YES please.

Am I the only one that\'s not busting a nut over Phish coming back? I\'m excited to hear how they sound (much like after the hiatus), but if it\'s anything like the last tour, I will most likely be listening to them rather than seeing them... Just saying...
